María se enamora de Diego. Al ser descubiertos juntos en su alcoba, su hermano José la mata accidentalmente y luego asesina a Diego. Ambos jóvenes mueren esa noche. El hermano muere poco después, en aparente venganza. Don Agustín, quebrado, se encuentra con el espíritu de su hija sobre el puente y muere ahogado tras verla.
