Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello everyone, and welcome back to Conversations Live. I'm your

(00:02):
host service webs so glad you guys can join us
once again for a radio audience tuning in at max
WYED ninety four point one, at them and WYAD online
dot com or gold that U all can be with us.
Also to join us online worldwide VRA a podcast that
I heard radio on Amazon Music for glad you all
could be with us as well. This is part of
our news you can use segment here at WYD and
today we're talking about HS. It's a painful skin disease

(00:24):
that impacts millions in the US, but it's often overlooked.
With patients waiting on average some ten years for a
proper diagnosis, they can face multiple misdiagnoses along the way.
That's why there's an urgent need for awareness. This is
what we're excited about our segment today. Joining us, we
have renowned dermatologist doctor Angela J. Lamb. She's also joined

(00:44):
today by Money who is not only a patient advocate
but also a social media influencer who is diagnosed with
HS just eleven years old. Thanks to LIOCH to you
for the time. Really appreciate it. So doctor Lamb. I
want to begin with you talk to us about HS
and how it does impact people live with it.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
So, HS, or hydrated and added super teava is a chronic, recurrent,
painful condition that we understand now is autoimmune. It impacts
my patients by an extreme amount of frustration because they,
as you mentioned, have often a delay diagnosis an average
of seven to ten years, but also have painful, draining
sys nodules under their arms, chest, backside, and in the

(01:25):
folds of their legs. And so imagine how frustrating that
would be to have that and also to not necessarily
have a strong diagnosis.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
Money. We appreciate you being able to tell us about
your experience. How have you managed the condition?

Speaker 3 (01:40):
Yeah, So, I've had HS for about ten plus years,
and it started when I was eleven. I would get
these boil like symptoms, like on my groin area. Throughout
those years, like I started to get them on my armpits,
and I ended up getting diagnosed at fifteen years old.
And I thought it was just because of my high
you know, though it was because of my weight. But

(02:02):
when I went to my doctor, she was like, it's
none of those things. This is just a condition that
you have and I had to wipe the eyebrushs ond
off and I was like, Okay, this is.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
What it is.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
And learning new ways to manage it has definitely been
such like an amazing journey because now I'm on a
biologic that is helping me learn more about my condition
and how to take care of myself.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
Love that and doctor Lamb, what are some ways to
manage the skins condition?

Speaker 2 (02:28):
So there are several ways to manage but I'm excited
today to partner with UCB to really raise awareness and
talk to you about one which has been ZELIKS, which
was FDA approved last year for treatment of adults with
moderate to severe hydrade and had a super TIVA. What
makes it unique is the targets not just one, but
two of the proteins we know are responsible for contributing

(02:51):
to a lot of the painful symptoms that patients have.
You know, I think the key is to really go
in talk to your physician. It's often a dermatologist. We
also work with d chronologists insurgents and take a full
medical history, or that person would take a full medical
history and talk to you about pros CON's potential side effects,
which in this case can include headache and up for

(03:12):
respiratory and track infection, and then also just key patients
into the community that's out there. So medications are part
of this journey, but so is education, awareness and again
the excitement that we have around the fact that there
are now more treatments for patients.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
And we're going to be posting the website for bimzel
x and it's b I m Z e l x
dot com Donzelex. We're gonna make sure that we post
it for an audience so that they can be able
to go there for more information. Again, everyone, doctor Angela J.
Lamb as well all the money have been with us
talk with us about at and not all of the
painful skin disease, but also help forward. Thanks to until

(03:48):
you for stopping by. Really appreciate the time today. Thank
you more than welcome, and we thank your audience. Are
tuning into another great segment of Conversations Live again part
