ready on Amazon Music. We're gladyou all could be with us as well.
This is part of our music andyouse segment here wyad in. But
today we're not talking about your health. We're talking about the health of your
(00:43):
pets. Dental disease affects nearly eightypercent of adult dogs and seventy percent of
cats in their lifetime, but Februaryhave been recognized, among other things,
as Pet dental Health Month. We'reexcited about this next guest. We're going
to be able to talk to youguys only about the dental hygiene for you
your furry friends, but also whereyou guys can go for more information here
to help us with that. Today, we're excited to welcome doctor Danielle Bernald
(01:06):
to our program. She is theveterinarian for Wellness Whimsies. She's gonna let
you guys know about the importance ofdental health for your pets, but also
again where you guys can go formore info. Doctor Bernald, thank you
again for the time. Really appreciateit. Thank you, Hey me sorry,
I'm looking forward to this well. This is an important conversation for all
of us pet lovers out there, and that those of course want to make
sure that our pets are not onlyhappy but also healthy. Can you discuss
(01:29):
the role that dental health plays innerpets overall health? Yes, that's almost
you know. We think about keepingtheir teeth clean and healthy. We think
about keeping their teeth free from clothand tata and making sure that that doggy
breath especially isn't too pungent. Butwhen we think about the role of their
teeth and dentitians for their overall wellbeing, says, We're going to have
much greater in reaching impacts you know, we think about digestion first and foremost.
(01:53):
You know, healthy teeth allow apet to chew their food, effectively
breaking it down and really get thatgreat nutrition from what they're eating. We
also know that you know, ifthey're chewing something it's like a dental chew,
that's going to give them extra mentalstimulation, and that mental and emotional
stimulation is almost as important as theirphysical health. And then, last,
but not least, you know, keeping them healthy is really important to avoid
(02:14):
the really deleterious impacts that can happenwhen our desk dogs dental outpacts. Dental
hair health is really decreasing and notin the best stay. And that's where,
if you know, less unchecked plaskand tarder will start to build up
that'll reach up to the gum line, get underneath, cause an inflammation and
an infections loosen those teeth, causea whole lot of pain and potentially need
(02:36):
that tooth to be removed. Now, if you've ever had a tooth face,
I bet you would agree that that'ssomething that we never want to inflict
on our pets. And then, even more seriously, with such a state
of poor dental health, that's whenthe bacteria from their mouths can enter the
bloodstream and really impact their overall liver, kidney or over a liver health.
So if we don't want any ofthat, the good news is that we
(02:57):
can avoid it or minimize the chancesof it by doing regular are daily at
home dental care with our dogs andcats. So there's some great news in
that story. That's well, it'sso interesting hearing you talk because the very
thing that you were describing is whatwe would tell our children right when it
comes to making sure that they arebeing able to take care of, you
know, especially when it becomes oftheir own dental health in our role in
doing that. So, do youhave any tips for our audience out there
(03:20):
that they can start a daily dentalroutine for their pets. Yeah, so
our first family are very much thecase like our own children, and the
ways of supporting their dental health isthe exact same. So first and foremost,
you want to get your dog orpacked to their dentist aka the veterinarian
at least once a year for theircheck out. The other thing we want
to do is to make sure thatevery single day they're supporting their dental health
(03:42):
with some kind of at home routine. Now, the big thing here is
the message that whatever we're doing,we need to make sure it's happening every
single day. If it happens justonce on a Sunday or when we remember,
well, the bad news there isthat we can't keep up with black
and tarter build up. So we'rereally setting them on a course of having
some dental disease if we're doing itevery day, or we stay ahead at
that curveball. So we're going tomake sure that we are really supporting their
(04:04):
dental health. Now, for howwe do that, this is where there's
a few options available. We alwaysencourage pet parents to try and rush their
dog or cats teeth, use aspecific toothbrush for our pet as well as
specific toothpaste, usually poultry or beefflavors, never used a humankind. But
the reality is is when I startsuggesting this, a lot of pet parents
(04:25):
start to look at me in astate of panic. That's something that they're
like, my cat or dog wouldnever let me do that. Well,
the good news for those pet parentsis there's some great alternatives. This is
where if you've got a dog,I'm sure you know that they love to
chew things, so recommending a dentalchew that's scientifically proven like Whimsies is a
great way to clean their teeth. And then for cats, they're not really
(04:46):
known to choose things. They're alllooking for a crunchy treat that's going to
clean their whole tooth up to thegum lines. And that's where Wimsies has
got some great new innovations in theWims's Cat Dental treat. But either way,
both of those are going to workby scrubbing their teeth and really support
the four areas that veterinarians checkmost reducingplants, reducing karta, freshening their breath,
and keeping their teeth and the gumsnice and healthy. Doctor brnals some
(05:10):
really good tips there for our catsand dogs and stuffing that we can be
able to do and know that we'remaking sure that they are covered again everyone.
Doctor Daniel Bernard Bernald has been ourguest today. She's a global veterinarian
for wellness Whimsies. Doctor Bernard workingon ideas go for more information, Yes
you get what if I have somemore information about the different shapes that are
available or the different sizes to suityour dog or of course those what are
(05:33):
the delicious tasty flavors that are availablein the cat recipes because we know tats
can be a little bit us seewhen it comes to what they will and
won't be. This is where Iencourage you to check out winses dot com.
That's w h I m theees dotcom. That's where we'll have all
the product information and lots more educationtools and if you're thinking of buying some
