Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello everyone, and welcome back to Conversations Live. I'm your

(00:02):
host Syrus webs So glad you guys could join us
once again for a radio audience tuning in at max
WYAD ninety four point one FM and WYED online dot
com or go that you all can be with us.
Also to show its online worldwide dra podcast that I
heard radio on Amazon Music. Glad you all could be
with us as well. This is part of a news
and the Youth segment here at WYDY and I'm really
excited about this. If you've ever had a desire to

(00:24):
live under the sea, there's a new chapter and subse
human habitation that's bringing the dream closer to Americans. As Deep,
a pioneering engineering and technology company announced as that it's
expanding its operations in the United States here to talk
to us more about that. We're excited to welcome back
Dr Don Carnegis for us today. Doctor Karnagus is a
renowned scientist and aquanat She's gonna be talking with us

(00:46):
only about this exciting breakthrough and underwater human habitation, but
also where you guys can go for more information as well.
Doctor Corannegas to get so much for the time. Really
appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
Yeah, thank you so much for having me.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
Hey, glad to do it. You and I spoke for
World Ocean's Day, So we're glad to be able to
have you back to talk to us more about this.
So part of this is because of the project Vanguard.
So talk to us about exactly what Vanguard is, doctor
crnagis and what significant Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
Absolutely, and so we talked about this in our previous
conversation too with respect to Deep. So Deep is a
company that's building out human subsy habitation capabilities. So I'm
really excited to come back onto the show and talk
about Vanguard. So Vanguard is our pilot subse human habitat
that is going into the water soon. Is being built
of Florida as we speak, and it's going to allow

(01:31):
for four individuals to conduct a mission of at least
seven days. And again, we're just thrilled to be able
to say we have this habitat being built in going
in the water very soon.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
I love that you were quoted as saying in an
interview that you see Deep as an undersea NASA, and
I think it kind of ties into what you're saying
now with Vanguard. Doctor krnagis what if the overall gold
the subsea human habitat.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
Yeah, that's a great question. And that quote is interesting
because you know, with deeper, not just build the structures,
we're doing the training, we're doing the human research that's
required for keeping people safe when they're living in these environments.
And so that was kind of alluding to NASA, and
when that NASA does is they're not just engineering, They're
about the human and the research and everything else that

(02:15):
goes along with it. So just like that with these
human subsy habitats, we are looking at opportunities one to
have that continuous presence subse So instead of doing discrete
samplings and having individuals going down on a scuba dive
for thirty minutes or sixty minutes, you can go down
and live in that environment and really become a part
of that environment and make that continuous observation twenty four

(02:37):
to seven. So that's going to be really important for
researchers and explorers and even educators who're getting that exposure.
And then because you're equilibrated to that surrounding environment and
that surrounding pressure, your dives that you do outside of
the habitat are significantly longer, so again instead of minutes,
you're looking at hours, and so it's really amplifying the
research capabilities, the exploration capabilities, and even opportunities like spaceflight

(03:00):
training for individuals who are living in these habitats.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
So this is interesting, So talk to us more about
that if you don't mind. How does a project like
this support marine science as well as space.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
Yeah, so that continuous data collection or that continuous observation
is really important for marine science. Being able to have
those longer lives on the bottom means that you can
collect more data, you can make more observations, and really
extend those opportunities. SUBC also being able to process samples
at depths. To think of this as an understated laboratory
sins of bringing a sample all the way back to

(03:32):
the surface and back to shore to process it. You
can actually do that processing and analysis sub C and
the habitat, which you're really excited about. And then for spaceflight,
there's a long history of using subse human habitats for
things like training and testing and development for things like
protocol and software and hardware before they go to space,
and we're just revisiting that kind of bring that capability

(03:53):
to the spaceflight community with this next generation habitat.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
I mentioned in my introduction to the Conegacy you're not
only renowned scientists, but also in Aquanaut yourself. What was
it like for you living in the subscenme and habitat
and how excited are you about now what's happening with Vanguard.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
Yeah, so I'll answer that last question first. Super excited.
I cannot wait to see it in the water and
get some time in that habitat as well. It was
a part of a previous Understry mission in a habitat,
and that was part of a NASA mission. We were
doing a variety of different research projects, choral restoration, human research,
and so again just really understanding the impact of having

(04:32):
that continuous presence in that environment, and just understanding that
increase in connectivity to the ocean because of that continuous presence,
and then just understanding how much work you can get
done and really how you can amplify those research and
education and exploration opportunities for individuals. So we're really excited
at Deep to be able to bring that out to
the broader humanity.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
Yeah, such an exciting topic and with our fascination with
space and the sea, I think a lot of people
are going to be interested in what Vanguard is able
to do. Again everyone, Doctor Don Corneggis has been our
guest talk with us not only about Vanguard and why
is significant, but also about the impact it's going to
be able to have, Doctor Carnegis, thank you so much
again for being with us. How can our audience get

(05:13):
more information?

Speaker 2 (05:14):
Yeah? Absolutely, they can check us out at deep dot
com and you can follow us on socials at Deep
Engineered Alory.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
We'll make sure that linked it up as well, and
we look forward to having you back on the program again.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
Yeah, thank you so much much to talk to you again.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
Hey, definitely same here and we think your audience are
tuning in to another great segment of Conversations Live. Until
next time. I'm your host. Sewer's website is always enjoy
your day, enjoy your life, into your world. Thank you
all for choosing Conversations Live that it's going to make
today amazing. Take care
