Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Dan Riley for Sports Talk on Passionate World
Internet Radio. Every once in a while, when sports people
make mistakes, we get an opportunity to learn from their mistakes.
(00:21):
The criminal case involving former football coach Matt Weiss is
a perfect example. According to ESPN, investigators have seized thousands
(00:41):
of intimate photos from Weiss. You might remember that Matt
Weiss was a member of the Baltimore Ravens coaching staff
once and was also a member of the Michigan Wolverines
(01:02):
football coaching staff just a few years ago. The United
States Justice Department has charged Weiss with hacking into the
accounts of thousands of student athletes across the nation. While
Weiss is innocent until proven guilty, the allegations are a
(01:26):
wake up call to universities to protect students' data, and
they are also bad press for Michigan. Obviously, more needs
to be done to keep this from happening, But what's

Weiss are a lesson in protecting ourselves when we're online,
(02:33):
though granted, those hints apparently came far too late for
the students that were affected by this. I don't pretend
to have an education in law, but I do know
(02:56):
that more than ever, the Internet has become place where
identity thieves can get what they want, and it's also
clearly a place where criminals can get hold of private
(03:17):
photos we don't want anyone to have access to, which
should call in the question why you would want anything
that compromising online. Look, Matt Weiss, whether he's innocent or not,
(03:42):
put himself in this position, and we need to learn
to protect ourselves and our identities online far better than
we currently are. This is Dan Riley for Sports Talk.
(04:09):
Thank you so much for tuning in and so long
