Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Dan Riley for Sports Talk Compassionate World. Internet radio.
Reports say former University of Southern Florida football coach Jim
Leavitt has been arrested on charges including simple and domestic
battery and felony grand theft. The charges do raise eyebrows,
given it was found leave It hit a player at

(00:23):
halftime of the game back in twenty ten. With this
man's history of allegations against him, one has to wonder
how anyone else could offer him a job. That's not
to say it's impossible. We've seen guys get second chances
before in sports, but constant bad publicity could scare teams away,

(00:46):
and that's understandable. The whole truth is abuse cannot be tolerated.
I have criticized on this show the member of the
coaching staff of the Indiana Fever who grabbed Caitlin Clark's
arm during a basketball game, and Bobby Knight's behavior. The

(01:09):
hard truth is what Jim leave It's been accused of.
Isn't all that different from grabbing someone or say, choking someone.
It's abuse one the same. It's just abuse. It's why

(01:29):
leave It has only himself to blame for winding up
in a jail cell. It's why his reputation is going
down the toilet. Domestic violence is despicable crime by anyone,
regardless of their sex or race, who can't get along
well enough with their family. If Jim leave It is innocent, fine,

(01:53):
but teams should really look into what happened before hiring him.
Maybe given that history of allegations against him, they'll pass
it up anyway. In football, violence only has its place

(02:14):
on the field between players. It's horrifying to me someone
could take a swing at a family member at all.
In a way, it's the most despicable, disgusting thing you
can do. It's the same thing with hitting a significant other.

(02:39):
It's just a vile thing to do. What Jim Lee
that stands accused of shows that he has a history
of just playing having problems. Could parents trust this to

(03:01):
recruit their kid and not take a swing at him Eventually,
even if he's innocent, people are going to wonder if
he's going to do it eventually, whether it be fair
or not, because Jim Leavett put himself in this position.

(03:29):
People in a position of authority, hitting people that work
for them is not the way you teach proper behavior.
And there is nothing acceptable with hitting a significant other

(03:52):
or a family member. It's not the proper way to
teach how to play a game, and it's not a
proper way to handle disagreements with a significant other. Hopefully

(04:13):
we can learn that from what happened with Jim leave
It here because we can only hope that either A
Jim Leave It is innocent, or b hope that he
learns that he's been doing something terribly wrong and has

(04:38):
himself to blame for teams thinking twice about hiring him.
This is Dan Ryley for Sports Talk. Thank you so
much for tuning in and so long
