(00:37):
the Kansas City Chiefs pretty complete victory. Started a little
bit slowly, but they end up building and building to
their best game of the year. I think we would
say against a good opponent. The Lions were a bit
compromised in the game, but ended up being very frustrated
and things spilled over at the end, which is pretty dumb.
But it was more of the Lions who were doing
the stupidity and the Chiefs responding. Although I think there

(01:00):
were probably some little pokes from the Chiefs that resulted
in what we guess we'd call a brawl. I don't
know it was completely that anyway, the Chiefs are three
and three. Their offense looked great. They're only going to
add parts. We'll talk to Stan about that. Saturday was
a very mixed bag of three college football games. The
Kansas State Wildcats get themselves a very impressive victory, look

(01:23):
quite good against TCU, not quite good enough for Maszoo.
They always seem to be on the precipice of the
game getting away from them, but to their credit they
didn't let that happen. And a little touch of spunk
for a few minutes by Kansas, but otherwise for a
disaster down in Lubbock on multiple levels. And we'll touch
on some other NFL and college topics also with Stan Weber.

(01:46):
Always informative, always in depth. It's Danny and Stan's Football Weekend,
presented by ASFCA.

staying well. And that's where chiropractic can change your life.

forward to working with you. Welcome back allus pretty well
now stand for the Kansas City Chiefs. They're back to
three and three. It's not ideal. The other teams in
the division all got victories yesterday, but still they have

(03:59):
a settled the waters and looked good doing it in
a game where the lines came out fast and it
didn't look good there for a while. But once the
Chiefs got hold of the game, they grabbed hold of
the game.

Speaker 4 (04:14):
They really did.

Speaker 6 (04:14):
It was impressive and it's the best football I see
being played right now, Danny and the whole NFL records matter,
and in the National Football League, you got to respect that.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
If you're a.

Speaker 6 (04:25):
Game behind your own division, behind two different teams that
you can't just phone it in and say, oh, we
won the division.

Speaker 4 (04:31):
We've kind of done that for eight or nine straight
years saying, oh, the Chiefs going to win the division.

Speaker 6 (04:35):
I happen to think they're playing very good football, better
than last year. They're finding their way, and he got
Rashi Rice coming back on.

Speaker 4 (04:42):
Top of that. That should be exciting.

Speaker 6 (04:44):
With the offense being as good as it is and
still room for improvement. But overall, I think the Chiefs
are playing really good football. And that was a dangerous game,
a very dangerous game in Detroit. Came out with a
boatload of confidence. Remember how they come to Arrowhead last
year and won that ball game to start out the year.

Speaker 4 (05:02):
When we thought, oh, Detroit shouldn't.

Speaker 6 (05:03):
Be in the same sentence with the Chiefs, and Detroit
was the number one seed in the NFC last year,
they came in here and said, winning the toss, we
want the ball and then drove right down the field
and the paier to score a touchdown.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
So it was a tough game for the Chiefs.

Speaker 6 (05:17):
It was a dangerous game, and with everyone else in
the division winning the way they did, there was even
more pressure for the Chiefs to not lose this game.

Speaker 4 (05:26):
Even though it was a dead.

Speaker 6 (05:26):
Even game going into it, you could make a case
for either team. The Chiefs needed to win, and man,
they did and look so good doing it that I
do think they're the best team in the division until
proven otherwise. I think right now to the best team
in the NFL, and they're gaining a level of confidence.
They have a lot of confidence in where they are.
I think the NBC crew gives you a lot of hints,

(05:49):
Dandy if you listen closely, they get access.

Speaker 4 (05:51):
It's unbelievable.

Speaker 6 (05:52):
Chris Collinsworth is a guy who owns PFF. For instance,
Andy's Chris collins Worth was Sunday Night Football, but he
was saying that around the locker room and around the
facility and with the administration, the Chiefs feel like they're
a better team than they were last year when they
were winning all those games and make it to the
Super Bowl for the third year in a row. And
I have no problem with that analysis.

Speaker 4 (06:12):
I I agree completely. I've been hitting that to you.

Speaker 6 (06:14):
The last few weeks and I think they're really hitting
their stride, playing better football. And at the end of
the day, they just kind of finished the game going
away from Detroit, which is hard to do. Detroit has
some answers, they had some fight, but the Chiefs are
just too good. And Travis Kelcey showing up the way
he did that looks like the old Travis kelce Patrick
Mahomes doing everything you and I have talked about the

(06:36):
last two years, putting the team on his back, running
the football like as a playoff game, and then throwing
the ball accurately downfield. Defense, not perfect, but solidly doing
their work, not making it easy on anybody.

Speaker 4 (06:50):
They're tackling capabilities are just incredible.

Speaker 6 (06:53):
You think about Nick Bolton and Chanel and those guys
in there. When they get a hold of you, you
go down a good tackling team, a great defensive coordinator.

Speaker 4 (07:03):
So I guess, butker is the thing to worry about
right now? Right?

Speaker 6 (07:08):
Is it going to make every pat and every field goal?
You know, that's the kind of thing they can worry about.
Still a lot of work to be done because two
teams are ahead of them in the division, so it's
going to make this season very intriguing. But I feel
good about where the Chiefs are right now, and I
think they feel very good about themselves.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
Also, I was worried. I've been worried, and I think
it's you know, I always think I was right. The
chief's attention to detail had been pretty bad so far
this year and maybe over the last couple of years. Well,
this game, no turnovers, no accepted penalties. That's pretty good.

Speaker 4 (07:40):
Yeah, completely different than last week.

Speaker 7 (07:42):
Right.

Speaker 6 (07:43):
You think about the Jacksonville game, you think about the penalties,
and if you want to join the conspiracy theories theorist Danny,
how about this. Did you hear Andy Reid during the
week talk about the game and penalties and officiating. I've
really had to stretch my brain and I don't remember
him talking about saying, yeah, there's too many penalties. That's

(08:03):
going to get your beat. I may not agree with.

Speaker 4 (08:06):
Him, but it doesn't matter if I agree with him
or not. I go WHOA.

Speaker 6 (08:10):
He just said he doesn't agree with him, almost as
if the NFL said, Okay, we get it, Andy, All
things even out. You get too many penalties last week,
probably some close calls you shouldn't get. But for one thing,
it's good that they weren't penalized. Credit them, Danny. But
also how much fun was the game to watch without
penalty flags being thrown every other player like we sometimes

(08:32):
see too often in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
No doubt about that. I guess my only concern about
this game. You mentioned it Patrick Mahomes running like it
was a playoff game. He took several pretty big hits
in this game. I think that's at least got to
be a minor concern.

Speaker 6 (08:50):
Yeah, you're right, Danny, He's not Superman. We've seen great
quarterbacks throughout our life who were physical, strong, tough winners,
but they still got put on the sideline for a
while with injuries and sometimes missed big hunks of seasons
or even seasons with injuries. So you've got to feel
a little concerned every time he's doing that. I thought

(09:12):
the Detroit Lions, especially with the post game activity, right,
you add what Branch did at the end, and I'm
gonna throw this out to you, Danny, I think the
Detroit Lions have a little bit of the old school
Oakland Raider mentality. A bunch of great athletes really want
to win bad. Aren't twenty twenty five versions of Oh,

(09:34):
let's just be happy win or lose and talk about
playing in each other's golf tournaments. I think Detroit wants
to win, and I think they're mad when they lose.
I think they are physical, and they're the first team
I've really seen make sure they hit Patrick Mahomes hard.
A lot of teams seem to say, hey, Patrick, just
go out of bounds.

Speaker 4 (09:53):
I'll I'll show you out. No one takes a shot
that they can get. Boy.

Speaker 6 (09:57):
Detroit was coming and hitting even late hit right by Hutchison,
a real late hit on Patrick. So it seemed like
Detroit had an attitude. But that's a little scary. They're
not going to play Detroit every week. But still, Patrick's
got to be a little careful, you know, He's got
to rely on the rest of the offense and start

(10:17):
utilizing them.

Speaker 4 (10:18):
Hopefully, for she Rice is the answer, Danny.

Speaker 6 (10:20):
Hopefully his yards after catch and physicality will substitute some
for Patrick Mahomes because, like you, as he was taking
those hits, I was going, come on, Patrick, just it's
okay when you're running out of bounds to run the ball,
but to spin and turn and fight for an extra
yard when you're at fourth and three or three yards

(10:41):
short of the first down, you know, be very careful
because we don't want you to get.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
Hurt right, And there was one time I thought he
got kind of concussed a little bit, but obviously he
at least in the eyes of everybody who was watching,
he did not. So I guess that's something to look
out for now. Whether or not they need that when
they take on the Raiders next week is another question.
I don't think the Raiders beat a bad football team yesterday,

(11:07):
so they probably feel a little bit better about them.
But the Chiefs look like at home in a traditional
noon game, the Raiders better look.

Speaker 4 (11:15):
Out, Yeah, I think so.

Speaker 6 (11:18):
You know, Danny, there's nothing more fun that I've been
around monitoring or being involved with is win a football
team is playing in a season, and you're starting to
get used to that grind of playing every week and
you hit that excitement level where everyone's pulling in the
same direction. Things are going well, you're getting confirmation on

(11:39):
the field that you're winning, but there's still a task
at hand.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
You know. It's one thing if they were three games up.

Speaker 6 (11:46):
On every team in the division and we were you know,
game eleven, and you knew you had the number one seed.
They have pride, they love playing well. You know they'll
give it a good shot. But Danny, there's nothing like
when you have that momentum belief, but you still know
there's a sense of urgency in every practice.

Speaker 4 (12:06):
Every drill, every walk through, every.

Speaker 6 (12:08):
Film study, because there's still a game behind the Chargers.
They're a game behind Denver. They better stay focused. But man,
when you start getting that confidence like it's coming together,
let's go, and the offense believes in the defense and
everyone is pulling in the same direction, the excitement levels
off the charts. So that doesn't happen a lot in
the NFL. These are professionals. They're used to the grind,

(12:31):
the understandings of business. It's not just a lot of
fun like it is for you and me. But still,
I'm with you. This Chiefs team is really on fire
and I think ready to play another great home game
with purpose. Did you see Patrick Mahomes in the postgame
interview with NBC last night. I don't know if you
had a chance to see that, but man.

Speaker 4 (12:51):
He was fired up. Like this guy's competitor.

Speaker 6 (12:55):
He's not just an NFL quarterback who's getting paid a
lot and then has special skills.

Speaker 4 (13:01):
He is a.

Speaker 6 (13:01):
Competitor and he was fired up with Detroit and the
actions they had after the game, so I think they'll
play with a lot of purpose. That said, these are
not the Raiders in the last five years. Pete Carroll
is a legitimate coach, So the Raiders will play well.

Speaker 4 (13:15):
Division teams play well.

Speaker 6 (13:16):
Danny. Teams that play the Chiefs get a little extra
adrenal and they get worried. You know, you get scared,
you play good. So I fully expect the Raiders to
fight and clawed and play a really good game. But
I just don't think they're going to be a match
for the way that it's setting.

Speaker 4 (13:29):
Up for the Chiefs.

Speaker 6 (13:30):
Just an unbelievable home game opportunity at noon.

Speaker 4 (13:33):
I think they'll be fired up. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (13:35):
We talk about validation a lot, and I think this
is the Chief's chance now at what we've seen over
the last few years is that we got that feeling
and we go into a game against the Raiders and
then it's you know, six to six midway through the
second quarter. That's something the Chiefs how to avoid.

Speaker 6 (13:53):
A good point. Every game is a new game in
the NFL. It should be close. So you and I
can't It's not like I'm throwing out a bunch of
money betting on these games, Danny. So it's as I've said,
to take the Chiefs and the spread, it's going to
be easy. So I respect the Raiders are going to
try to fight and CLLL and do everything they can.

Speaker 4 (14:14):
But this chief seems good.

Speaker 6 (14:16):
I mean, they really are good, and I think they're
excited about it. Last year they were holding on, you know,
trying to be a first ever three P winner, but
they had used all their energy, you know, the last
drop of blood and enthusiasm was being called upon to
have the energy to do it again. And they got
lucky in one games, and you know, they could go

(14:38):
take the accolades of everyone patting them on the back
and saying you're undefeated.

Speaker 4 (14:42):
This is a great team. But they knew, they knew,
Danny when they.

Speaker 6 (14:45):
Watched the tape that these other teams are making mistakes
that they didn't deserve.

Speaker 4 (14:50):
To get the benefit of.

Speaker 6 (14:51):
It's way better when you feel like you're physically doing
what you needed to and you're the better team.

Speaker 4 (14:57):
That's so refreshing.

Speaker 6 (14:58):
You know that what we talked to about, what Chris
Collins were said, that's the difference.

Speaker 4 (15:02):
Right now.

Speaker 6 (15:03):
This is not just a Chiefs team who's by reputation good.
This is the Chief team that's seen a little dip
throughout last year and early this year when they didn't
win games, and now they're gaining their swagger back, and
it's true swagger. It's like we're good and I believe
in it. And look at the offensive line. Most everyone
who studies the Chief would say the offensive line is

(15:25):
playing better this year. And Simmons has done a great
job coming in being the starting left tackle. Well, he
wasn't there last night and they still played exactly.

Speaker 4 (15:37):
Like they have on the offensive line.

Speaker 6 (15:39):
So now the guy you paid a bunch of money
too to come possibly be your left tackle more steps up,
does the job, plays well, and suddenly you have confirmation that, boy,
we have depth at the offensive line position, especially the
most important position at the tackle position. These kind of
things being they really solidify the football team that they're

(16:03):
not just going off a reputation that where they can't
stay Chiefs. They're feeling it in the locker room. I
say it every year, every team is a new team.
Every team is a new team, and they're finding out
that this team's coming together and really ready to roll
doing some really nice things and plenty of room for improvement.
They want their defense to be better. They want to
run the ball better. They want Rashi Rice to get

(16:25):
in there and be a better factor. They want Travis
Kelce to play more like he did in the Detroit game.

Speaker 4 (16:31):
Week after week.

Speaker 6 (16:32):
All those things look like they're improvement areas. The one
that you and I just talked about is can they
do it? Relying a little less on Patrick Mahomes getting
hit running the football.

Speaker 2 (16:43):
Stan Weber joins us mostly on Mondays, and it'll be
Monday again next week with a standard start against the
Raiders noonkick on Sunday. We'll talk about a varied college
football Saturday with stand Next on Danny and Stan's Football
Weekend presented by ASFCA.

Speaker 1 (17:00):
More of Danny's Reasonably Irreverend podcast.

Speaker 2 (17:02):
After this, we're here with doctor Brad Woodell from Advanced
Sports and Family Chiropractic and Acupuncture. And one thing we
like to talk about is the wide range of services
that can help you out mentally and physically.

Speaker 3 (17:14):
We offer many services from chiropractic, acupuncture, nutritional work, and rehabilitation,
and we take care of patients of all ages from
young to old, and customize the care to help them
stay well and stay active.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
What are some of the things that you can do
to help that.

Speaker 3 (17:31):
The first thing we're going to do is we're going
to look at prevention. How do we keep you moving
and aligned? Ideally, just like your car, that expensive car
is going to have your top priority and maintenance. You
want to keep it in good shape. This body of yours,
it is worth a.

Speaker 2 (17:45):
Lot advanced sports and family chiropractic and acupuncture. Eight locations
all around the Kansas City area, so you can find
one near you to do all the things that doctor
Woodell has just stressed. It's ASFCA have.

Speaker 8 (17:58):

Securities and services offered through LPL Financial, a Registered Investment
Advisor member FINRA SIPC. We're here at the twenty third
Street Brewery with Matt Llewellen all the time. There's exciting
things going on, new water feature, new beers, and this
fall football is back in Lawrence and that's cool.

Speaker 7 (19:17):
Football back in Lawrence. Can you imagine that we actually
had to endure a year without it. Well, it is back.
It's back on campus. We're so happy that they're here,
just like years past. We offer a free shuttle coming
from the twenty third Stree Brewery an hour and a
half before game time. We partner with the Boys and
Girls Club to do that, so it's helping a good
cause also, so come in to the brewery early before

(19:38):
the game. Free shuttle to and from the football game.
We love to have you out here, excited to have
the Jayhawks back in town where they belong.

Speaker 2 (19:45):
Great food, great beers, great fun during football season at
the twenty third Street Brewery twenty third and Castle in Lawrence.

Speaker 2 (20:04):
Welcome back and drama free for the Kansas State Wildcats,
there hasn't been much of that so far this season.
They get to the win that they need to get
a second win two and two in the Big twelve.
Big twelve is really jumbled up, all kinds of things
going on, and very impressive win by the Cats in
a variety of different ways. Productive day from Avery Johnson,

(20:25):
three touchdowns, Joe Jackson stepped in and did the job
with one hundred and ten yards rushing and case State
more than enough to do what they often haven't done
this year, which is create a lot of smiles at
Bill Snyder Family Stadium.

Speaker 6 (20:42):
Yeah, that's right, Danny, because they played so well against Baylor.
If you just went with me to study the tape
and he didn't look at the scoreboard in the game,
flow football looks a lot different when the coaches study
tape or when I look at it, Danny, and you're
looking at the all twenty two and you have no
idea what.

Speaker 4 (20:57):
The score is.

Speaker 6 (20:58):
Just watch a play and you evaluate and see what
you think. Case played very well against Baylor. It's hard
to remember that for you and I because they lost
that game. But winning against TCUH has allowed the football
team to really say they played three good games in
a row. UCF very solid at home, should have won
against Baylor, did a lot of good things, won the

(21:18):
turnover battle, for instance. Then turn TCU over, get two
defensive scores, win the turnover battle three to nothing. Cee
Avery Johnson, who takes a k State team that's been
a passing team and sure enough for the sixth time
in his career, has three touchdown passes in the game
and just does a nice job of running the offense,
scrambling a little bit.

Speaker 4 (21:38):
You know all those things are positive.

Speaker 6 (21:40):
Now the one extra positive that KSE fans were monitoring
in this game and we got to wait and see
two more weeks when they go to Lawrence and play
ku is does KSE State have a little bit more
of a running game?

Speaker 4 (21:52):
Joe Jackson running for over one.

Speaker 6 (21:55):
Hundred yards in the ballgame, playing with physicality and enough
of a juke to make you think in speed to
make you think that maybe this is going to change
that Case State can run the football. But basically they've
been waiting for Dylan Edwards, as a scatback type of player,
to be healthy. He's only been healthy for one game
other than that again missing this game, Danny. The running

(22:18):
game hasn't been there. Case eight is a much better
team when they look at the remaining part of the
schedule if they can bring the running game back in play.

Speaker 4 (22:27):
First time.

Speaker 6 (22:27):
We've said that probably since we've ever done broadcasts together, Kevin,
I mean, well I did with Kevin and you and
everybody on radio. We talked for all those years. For
twenty five plus years, you and I have been doing
things together, and during that time Case State could always
run the football with diversity and come out with you
come at you with physicality. But right now, case is

(22:49):
a passing team. How good can they run the ball
is one of the big questions about Case State. If
they can run the ball better like they did against TCU,
then you're going to have a revis football team that
really will be hard to beat.

Speaker 2 (23:03):
Yeah, they did get a boost in this game. You know,
sometimes you call him take away, sometimes you give them giveaways.
I don't know, I'd kind of probably call both of
the touchdowns by k State nice plays by the Cats,
terrible plays by Josh Houver.

Speaker 6 (23:16):
Yeah, there's no problem staying their giveaways, Danny. You know,
we're not sitting here on the K State network or
whatever network just saying that everything is because we caused
all the havoc. You know, it's good play by Wesley
Fair on a ball that ends up being called a
lateral to go run and grab it and run into
the end zone.

Speaker 4 (23:33):
I mean, that's a good discipline play. Not everyone would
do that.

Speaker 6 (23:37):
And Desmond Parnell had two interceptions in the ballgame and
had an interception return for touchdown. Rafter he had a
big time sack. So Desmond Parnell put together a good game.
But you know, Josh Houver did stick the ball right
in his numbers so that he could raise his hands
up and catch it pretty easily. So that's But the
trend of turnovers and creating them for one way or

(23:58):
another is now lasted more than one game, more than
two games. So maybe you've got a trend line here
that Caseate can protect the football if they're giveaways by
the opponent, be ready to accept them, you know, and
that's happening.

Speaker 2 (24:12):
And then play good football around them.

Speaker 4 (24:15):
Yeah, k State's team is there's belief there, Danny.

Speaker 6 (24:20):
They I'm not saying Case's a great team, but the
downward mentality that we've had as fans watching KSE State
and surprise at them having a losing record and the
poor start they got off to it really didn't dig
deep into the player's mindset. So I think these last
three games have made them feel like they're a pretty
good team, ready to roll and be as.

Speaker 4 (24:40):
Good as they can be. How good is that going
to be?

Speaker 6 (24:42):
I don't know, But one thing to watch as a
barometer is how well do they run? Because I know
you and I are going to be talking a lot
more about this over the next two weeks. KSE State
versus KU. But the one thing that gives you the
best chance to beat KU is run the ball, take
advantage of their lack of run defense, run the football,
hopefully score points, use time up, and keep Jalen Daniels

(25:04):
in a good Kansas offense off the field.

Speaker 4 (25:07):
Well right up until the TCU game, I don't think
you could lean on that as being a strength to
k State football this year.

Speaker 6 (25:14):
You know, it's not something where they're going to pound
and be able to run the football. So it's a
big question mark for both Kansas and their defense and
for KSE State and their offenses.

Speaker 4 (25:24):
How well will KSE State run the football the rest
of the year, That.

Speaker 2 (25:28):
Is definitely a question. Both teams have a bias. Dan
mentioned We'll talk about the Jayhawks here in a minute,
but Miszoo lost a game to Alabama. There's no shame
in that. In the final score was close and it
was a twenty seven to twenty four final. They scored
a touchdown did Miszoo to give themselves a chance and
then got to stop. This game was to me always

(25:49):
right on the precipice of Alabama pulling away. But to
the Tigers credit, they didn't let that happen. I would
say this game was closer on the score than the
actual game was. But I think Missouri can look at
it in a different way.

Speaker 6 (26:04):
Yeah, you can view this thing from so many different angles.
As a game unfolded.

Speaker 4 (26:11):
I thought Alabama had control of the game.

Speaker 6 (26:13):
They had a ten point lead, and you're about ready
to think they're going to make that next play and
pull away and get into that twenty point lead area
and then just say we're Alabama and you're Missouri. And
we saw that last year when Missouri went to Alabama.
Missouri's playing good football, ten win team, but Alabama got
control of the game and separated and said, you know,

(26:34):
we played at a national championship level.

Speaker 4 (26:36):
I thought that was going to happen. So let's credit
Missouri for not letting that happen.

Speaker 6 (26:40):
In fact, they fought back very very well, and even
in a game that they made mistakes, Missouri did not
play flawless with Perbula throwing a couple of interceptions, and
they still had a real chance to win that game.
We knew that going into the game, Ty Simpson and
the Alabama passing game.

Speaker 4 (26:57):
Is really what they were going to lean on.

Speaker 6 (26:59):
And I thought he did an incredible job. The Missouri
Tigers put him under a lot of stress. It wasn't easy.
They made him go for fourth down to make plays.
But I thought ty Simpson was an NFL like rock
star out there with the throws that he made, the
type of plays he made under pressure. But Danny, I
can't help but go back to say how the game started.

(27:20):
I don't know if you were able to be locked
in right away, But Missouri drove down the field and
the crowd was going crazy, and the offense was doing
everything you could ever want. I mean, you're utilizing one
of the best tight ends, and Brett Norfleet or maybe
the best tight end, and the country's making plays.

Speaker 4 (27:38):
Prabula's running and throwing Hardy is getting after it.

Speaker 6 (27:43):
And Missouri ripped down the field and let seven to nothing,
and the crowd was going crazy.

Speaker 4 (27:48):
I was so impressed with the Missouri crowd.

Speaker 6 (27:51):
Then Alabama makes a bad play and a worse play,
and now they are sitting within seconds of being third
and very long.

Speaker 4 (27:59):
I don't know if it's was it third and seventeen,
third and twenty two.

Speaker 6 (28:03):
I mean they were in trouble and going to have
the punt in my opinion, they were gonna have the
punt after the next down. They were not going to
get a first down, and Missouri's gonna get the ball back.
They had seven to nothing and ready to do some
more damage. When they had the penalty, went over and
got to get out of jail card free by giving
Alabama fifteen yards and a free first down after that.

(28:26):
This is a team that has championship DNA and mentality.
Ty Simpson, like I talked about in our show on Saturday,
you know, he came from a Nick Saban era. He's
a Nick Saban type of guy. You give him another
chance and they're going to settle down and play. And
when I was watching the game and that penalty occurred,
they gave them a free first down rather than having

(28:47):
a punt right back to Missouri. I said to the
people sitting to me, ballgame. Now, that's too simple. And
Missouri fought like crazy. But to me, Danny, my first
reaction was ballgame. You don't give Alabama another chance like that.
They're going to settle down and what do they do
on that drive? They went down and scored and tied
the game seven to seven. So to me, it's completely different.

(29:09):
The opportunity that was there for Missouri. Missouri's not much
different than Alabama. I'll give you that had the chance
and multiple chances to win. I'll give you that, But
that penalty was such a giant blow. It really seemed
to me to be a differential in this game. I
really thought without that penalty, Missouri might have got the
job done.

Speaker 2 (29:28):
And one other thing going about this game, Missouri did
not run the football great. They ran it okay, but
Alabama had not been very good against the run. And
of course Obama had the ball for almost forty minutes
and then they were ahead by multiple scores, so all
that helped as well, but just four yards of carry
for Hardy, they didn't really assert the running game the

(29:52):
way I thought they needed to to win.

Speaker 6 (29:55):
Yeah, it's a good point, Danny, because going in a
game we said that that's a path to win.

Speaker 4 (30:00):
Already, going to play a.

Speaker 6 (30:00):
Team that's a national championship top ten team with the
name Alabama and be able to run the football, that's
something you just write off and say nope.

Speaker 4 (30:08):
We spoke about that on.

Speaker 6 (30:09):
College Game Day on Sports Radio A ten WHB. You
usually just write that offen say you're going to have
to throw the ball well, scramble well because you can't
count on the running game. There was a chance that
that may be different in this game as we went
to the game, But like you said, Danny, it really wasn't.

Speaker 4 (30:25):
I mean, we probably just need to give our mind
a little bit more.

Speaker 6 (30:29):
Respect and say, oh, remember, don't ever think a team
like Missouri is going to run the ball against.

Speaker 4 (30:34):
A team like Alabama.

Speaker 6 (30:35):
Right, that is a reality that happens when you're playing
against these national championship level teams. And sure enough, Missouri
had to win it more of a normal way against Alabama.

Speaker 4 (30:45):
They didn't have that. Oh we're going to dictate to you.
They are only hints of it. You know.

Speaker 6 (30:49):
Every once in a while you'd see a good seven
or eight yard run by the Tigers and you said,
that doesn't look like Alabama's defense of the past. But
down after down, you know, they got the job done
and they did not let the game turn into a
simple Hey, Missouri can run in Alabama can't stop it.

Speaker 4 (31:05):
It was not like that at all. No, it was not.

Speaker 2 (31:09):
And for Kansas they have a buye as well heading
into the game in Lawrence, they probably need it.

Speaker 4 (31:14):
I'm not so, sir.

Speaker 2 (31:15):
Kansas State wants it at this point in time, the
way they're playing. But Kansas got to see first in
first person, face to face nil football, and it looked awful.
At the beginning. It looked like a college football team
against a high school team. To Kansas's credit, they made

(31:36):
a little bit of a rally, mostly because Jalen Wilson
was out of his mind good under incredible duress. But
then the waves of talent that Texas Tech is throwing
out there, particularly with their pass rush and everything else,
took over and ended up being a real butt kicking
And I think for those who might not like modern
nil football, they had exhibit A here.

Speaker 4 (32:01):
Yeah they did.

Speaker 6 (32:02):
And you know, to put more pain onto the Kansas
mentality is Baron Morton, the starting quarterback, got hurt. Yeah,
so you started to think, here's your break. Starting quarterbacks hurt.
I can't help but credit Kansas for coming back and
making us close at the half. Dan, I mean, come on,

(32:22):
they deserve a ton of credit. They look dead against
UCF and Landslip Bult said, no, let's get back to
our game. And then they dominated a second half and
there was a hint that maybe they were going to
do that again, getting whipped eighteen to nothing at two
point conversion like they were Oregon back in the Chip
Kelly days to rub it in, you know, eighteen to
nothing and just playing around with you.

Speaker 4 (32:44):
Oh, then he had a field goal and they're head.

Speaker 6 (32:46):
Twenty one to nothing in the old nil Texas Tech
Red Raiders are going to laugh at Kansas, and yet
KU fought back and got close at the half. I
mean that that was a story that no one wants
to talk about now at the.

Speaker 4 (33:00):
End of the day.

Speaker 6 (33:01):
But for them to go to the half twenty one
to seventeen was very impressive. So Kansas has some moxie there,
but it's hard on defense. Danny and Texas Tech running
game was elite average.

Speaker 2 (33:14):
Ten yards first play, average, ten yards of carry.

Speaker 6 (33:17):
Yeah, but the very first lady is after a Kansas
offensive set where you say, okay, here we go.

Speaker 4 (33:23):
Kansas is going to move the ball, maybe they're going
to score.

Speaker 6 (33:26):
And the first time Texas Tech gets a ball, they
take advantage of Kansas's weakness and just go crazy. You know,
three hundred and seventy two yards rushing and all of that.
Congratulations Texas Tech. They were pressed a little bit, but
came out in the third quarter, got the business done,
and they keep moving forward to what.

Speaker 4 (33:44):
They hope is going to be a Big TROL.

Speaker 6 (33:46):
Championship this year with that nil funded mentality. But for
ku probably a good week to get a rest and
oh I bet they got beat up to the Cincinnati
six hundred yards with the running game of the Texas
Tech game, and there's not much room for confidence for Kansas.
What they've got to do is just say erase the slate,

(34:07):
get fired up. You're playing arrival in K State. You
got a chance in case State's not a dominant running team,
so it sets up that you've got a chance to
go out and do.

Speaker 4 (34:17):
Some work and re establish what your priorities are for
this season.

Speaker 6 (34:20):
Because Kansas got off to a good enough start that they,
like many teams in the Big Twelve, should have thought
about why.

Speaker 4 (34:27):
Not us in the Big Twelve championship game.

Speaker 6 (34:30):
But after losing to Cincinnati and losing to Texas Tech,
I think the Jayhawks can get away from Hey, quit
worrying about a Big TROL championship game. Let's just have
one single focus. Let's beat k State. How happy will
that make it?

Speaker 4 (34:43):
You know?

Speaker 6 (34:44):
And then we'll have two games over a five hundred
record and you can get back to talking about excellent season,
great bowl game, all those kind of things. But right now,
because of the negativity that's occurred in the last couple
of weeks, I think it's best for them to just
go we.

Speaker 4 (34:58):
Match up well with k State. This is our chance.

Speaker 6 (35:00):
We've lost sixteen straight times to Case eight eight straight
times in Lawrence, let's go win this game. And what
a coaches want, Danny a simple focus, one game at
a time, and I think Kansas is with this break
going to be able to do that.

Speaker 4 (35:15):
Case State was probably wishing they'd play on Tuesday. Let's
keep going.

Speaker 6 (35:19):
We finally feel good about ourselves for the first time
this year. I think the Case eight team went into
the locker room going, yeah, that's us. But they've got
to wait two weeks before they match up with the Jayhawks.

Speaker 2 (35:31):
And finally, we didn't touch on it, but validation is
what we talked about. If Missouri felt pretty good against
about their effort against Alabama, they have to go play
the other Alabama team, which isn't having a good season.
But Auburn has played close football in all three of
those games. This is one that will look bad if
Missouri loses it, even if it isn't.

Speaker 4 (35:51):
Yeah, that's well said.

Speaker 6 (35:52):
There's a lot of pressure on Missouri because the schedule
was laid out very well, very strategically for them to
play six straight home games.

Speaker 4 (36:03):
They got eight total home games this year.

Speaker 6 (36:06):
They're still going to fight and claw with some good
SEC football, and this is a good example. Auburn's not
on the tip of everyone's tongue right now. They've not
been very good the last few years, Danny. And they're
owing three in conference right now. So Auburn is not
the Auburn national championship claim. This is not a great

(36:27):
football team, but it's still a hard environment and the
athletes Auburn have are.

Speaker 4 (36:32):
Very very good.

Speaker 6 (36:34):
So if you do not play a really good game,
then Missouri could lose. They can't afford a loss right now, Danny.
They need to win this game a lot like I
had the thought process of KU needing to get their
work done at UCF, I think we got the same
thing here. Mizzouri can't afford to lose another game to Auburn.
Not only will it not look good, there's gonna be

(36:55):
so many questions everywhere around the program to say, it's
your first road game, you didn't get the job done.

Speaker 4 (37:00):
You've lost two in a row.

Speaker 6 (37:02):
Forget all this talk about college football playoff and everything else.
But no Missouri team in history has gone three straight
years and won ten games or more.

Speaker 4 (37:10):
Never has it happened. And they got a chance to
do this.

Speaker 6 (37:13):
All they gotta do is go be the better team
and beat Auburn. Play your game and beat Auburn. But
there is a challenge of the effect of the physicality
and the mentality of a loss. After losing to Alabama,
and it is the first road game, Danny, and is
that a factor? Missouri's gotten very comfortable with home games.

(37:33):
Is there a little something that throws you off by
being in a hotel on the road. I don't know
all those questions come into play. But if Missouri just
settles down and plays good football, they're better than Alabama.
But I think there's a lot of pressure. I really
think Missouri has to win this game. They do not
want to wake up next Monday having lost two straight
and want them to be to Auburn because that could

(37:54):
be really deflating about where the rest of season is
going to go.

Speaker 2 (37:58):
No doubt about that. Dan, always great stuff. We appreciate
the time. I'll talk to you on Saturday on the
radio and next Monday right here. Thanks for the time,
Stan Okay, thank you, Danny. Danny and Stan's Football Weekend.
It's always presented by ASFCA.

Speaker 4 (38:15):
We hope you.
