(00:58):
Right now they are even on one, up on one,
down on two. We're gonna talk more about that here
at a minute of Danny Clinkscale course our golf insider
here in the program Eastern Roofing. Of course, by the way,

(02:02):
I like that? I made that up myself. I like it.
I'm gonna go with it. The debate is in my
house as to what we're gonna light and what we're
not gonna light. And I'll be honest with you, like shocking,
I want to go Clark Griswold, and it is not
being received at home the way I would like it
(02:22):
to be. Really, it's being received at home like the
uh the in laws received Clark's lighting display. Yeah, and
I'm like, god, the little one, she likes it. She's
up for it, but mom ain't quite as fired up
about it.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
Not thrill.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
So yeah, I think you're overdoing it, don't you. I'm like,
you cannot overdo it, is my theory. So we'll see.
But East roof is gonna be doing our holiday lights.
Can't wait. Just go to Easterton roofing dot com. That's
Eastern Roofing dot com.
Speaker 5 (02:48):
Just just drive down one hundred and twenty third. There's
a house that overdes it.
Speaker 4 (02:52):
Oh really okay, it can't be over it on.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
The north side. Yeah, any boy? Okay, all right, Well,
I don't know. I like the lights.
Speaker 5 (03:00):
Whatever you've done is just right. I haven't done it yet,
That's what I'm saying. It's a general across the board.
If you've done it, whatever it is, it's just right. Yeah, okay,
all right, I'll take that's at your house. I'll tell exactly, yeah,
to each to each his own. Yes, it is what
you're saying.
Speaker 4 (03:14):
If you want the neighbors to make funey and you
know whatever, go ahead.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
Do you know that I really could not. It would
be impossible for me to care less what anyone is
going to think about what I do for the lighting. Now,
I can't say that that opinion is shared in my home,
but I really don't give a flying fart in space
what anybody's gonna say about how I do my life.
Speaker 4 (03:37):
Good on you, I like that atitude.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
I just the jar is empty.
Speaker 4 (03:43):
You're fresh out of them, fresh out.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
Of them to give. I'll tell you that right now.
Danny Clinchdale is with us here at Nick and Jakes.
We mentioned the great October Fest menu week one. Get
out here and try it. We've got the wonderful I'll
tell you what if that Pretzel's gonna sit there.
Speaker 5 (03:58):
Very long.
Speaker 3 (03:59):
Tubb's here has been doing low Car. But that's like
it's so good. It's like two meals, I know.
Speaker 4 (04:05):
Hell or for he and I.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
You know, yeah exact, yeah, yeah exactly. But you come
out and they're giving away a ten dollars gift card
if there is an eagle on seven or thirteen, So
you want to come on out and be a part
of it. Watching the Ryder Cup got five dollars sixteen ounce.
Mick Altris got all the october Fest Tito's cocktails to try,
(04:27):
and Tito's is also going to be given away a
golf bag. You got to come here. The golf bag
is here. All these specials, by the way, are good
at all three Nick and Jakes, I want to be
clear about that, all three of them right here. One
hundred thirty test the metcalf where we are, sixty eight
thirty West one hundred and thirty fifth Street in Parkville,
sixty three twenty five Lewis Street. That's Highway forty five
and nine. And then in Shawnee at Shawne Mission Parkway
(04:49):
and K seven there on Midland Drive. You can get
over there twenty two two twenty Midland Drive. They're going
to be giving away the gift cards at all three
locations whenever there's an eagle and they've got the Octoberfest menu.
Going got to be here to win this golf bag bill,
because you got to. You gotta sign up with a
QR code. Danny thoughts real quick on the Ryder Cup,
the US getting down three to one to start.
Speaker 4 (05:12):
Well, it wasn't that they just got down, They got
clabbered in those matches, but the Europeans played great golf.
Alternate shot. You know, a couple three hunder par is
a good score. It's a very difficult format to play
in the Euros. In the matches they won shot seven under,
five under and five under, so they kind of got
buzz sawed. But they didn't play particularly well either. And
(05:34):
before the match I said that I thought the US
needed three and a half or four points. Four suggested
three and a half minimum from Scotty Scheffler, and it
appears that's even three and a half. It's gonna be
impossible because he's getting beat again today. And what is
his deal?
Speaker 3 (05:50):
Is he choking?
Speaker 4 (05:51):
Is he well, he's not. He's not playing well. You
have a partner and the Henley was terrible this morning,
so that doesn't help. Now you're playing your own ball
basically in this format in the afternoon. And he is
somebody who, even when he's playing great golf, which he
does just about every week, he usually kind of works
himself into a tournament. You know, in the first round
(06:13):
he might chew a couple under. When he watched the round,
you'll say, boy didn't play very well. He actually pulled
something out of that round, and he's not a great putter.
He can you know, have days when the putts aren't
going in and you can't work yourself into the round,
you know. I mean there's only three rounds and you
could lose two matches on this day. So this day
is maybe just sort of a light you know, Scottie
(06:36):
Scheffler light, and it's just not a good day to
do it.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
Now.
Speaker 4 (06:38):
I think they would have had a lot of problem
with winning that match because Henley wasn't very good at
all and the other team was very good. So and
right now it doesn't look like they're bouncing back, but
the thing is close. It looks like they've got one
match for sure here in the afternoon, looks like they're
going to lose one for sure, and the other time.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
Matter by how many you win by, you just get
the one point.
Speaker 4 (06:56):
Yeah right, you just get one point. But therefore up
in one match, so I've got one point just about guaranteed,
and the Euros have one point not quite guaranteed to close,
but three up through twelve, and then the other two
are close. It would behoove the US to maybe take
a point and a half out of those other two
and get back in this thing. If you're you know,
it's tough to come back. And also they have to
(07:17):
get to fourteen and a half. If it's tied, Europe
keeps the cup right. So they have not reacted very
well to the pressure, I would say. And also they
allowed the crowd to become a zero factor. They were
getting whitewashed so fast this morning that there was no
juice at all, and you could hear if you're you know,
(07:37):
I was listening at points on the radio and you
could hear cheers when a European birdy was made because
the American fans were silent, and there's enough Europeans there.
It's you know, New York. There's a lot of people
from many many countries around, and so they're in some trouble.
But it's still early enough that they're not you know,
(08:01):
desperate shape right now. But it's hard to win if
you're you know that, you know. One of the reasons
they have had a bad record in the Ryder Cup
for a while is because they're two best players over
the last generation Scotti, I mean, just Tiger Woods and
Phil Mickelson. We're not very good in the Ryder Cup,
and so it's tough to win when your best players
(08:23):
don't play well, because you can't not put them on
the team. No, you're gonna and also you'd Scotty.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
Scheffer is gonna be slow starting. He's gonna get put
on the team every year, and then you're gonna have
him do nothing.
Speaker 4 (08:32):
Right every other year when well, I mean, he's the
thing is he almost never plays bad. But you can
play bad for maybe two sessions and then you're down
and maybe he'll come back and win three points and
you know that, but they might be in trouble by then.
So but there's still enough time in this round, in
(08:53):
the close matches, and but now Lowry just made a
birdie so that that match is two up, So they're
in trouble in this session too. So it's a difficult
golf course. Europeans are on point. They have almost the
exact same team from the last time. The lot of
little things create the extra momentum for the Europeans, including
(09:15):
the whole narrative this week of the United States players
are getting paid, and the Europeans have made a big
deal about the fact that they would never take any
money to play in the Ryder Cup. They would pay
to play in the Ryder Cup. They said, lots being
made of that. That just these little things that create
the the impression that the Europeans care more about the
Ryder Cup than the United States does, whether which probably
(09:38):
is not true. I don't think it's true. I don't
think anybody wants to lose. It's the biggest event in
sports now or in golf, for sure, but one of
the biggest events in sports.
Speaker 3 (09:47):
And yeah, I'm I'm not saying you're wrong. I want
to say, you're talking Super Bowls and Final fours, and.
Speaker 4 (09:53):
I said, one of the biggest events in sports.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
It's a big deal.
Speaker 4 (09:56):
There's not the biggest. I was that was a no
false news. That was great news. But it certainly, it
certainly is elevated year after year after year after year.
And you know, I don't think you're going to see
the ratings for the Ryder Cup Sunday be better than
NFL football, but especially if the United States is down
by five points or something. But it is a big deal,
(10:19):
so I don't but that perception is out there. Also,
they have a captain who seems to really push all
the right buttons, and Luke Donald. They brought him back
and they're trying to do something that is really one
of the most difficult things right now in sports, which
is to win a road Ryder Cup. It's almost never happens.
We've had five Ryder Cups in a row that have
been pretty much robs for the home team. And so
(10:41):
here's the the United States trying to you know, keep
that going. They're not going to roll. I'll say that
they might win, but at this point them rolling looks
almost impossible.
Speaker 3 (10:54):
So what's the path to victory?
Speaker 4 (10:57):
Well, like I said, it's close enough that a stick
who was that? Was it Fleetwood? No, it was an
American there. They've got that match kind of handled anyway, So.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
That's the one they're off. Okay, but from like two
hundred it's two hundred five yards out he hit he
hit the stick on the fly, yeah, and then oh,
right in front of it. It looked like it had
maybe a second bounce right in front of the cop.
Speaker 4 (11:25):
It was a bad break because it would have spun too. No,
that was actually in a in the close one of
the closer match.
Speaker 3 (11:30):
That was J. PJ.
Speaker 4 (11:31):
Spahn, right, who actually has played pretty well. Uh, but
but he's not he's not. He's a streaky putter too.
I mean, you've got to make birdies, especially in this format.
The golf courses is wet, the greens are soft, so
they're making a lot of birdies out there they I mean,
euroshoe shot would be considered impossible scores and alternate shot
(11:53):
in the morning, and you're gonna have to make a
whole slew of birdies and gotta make putts to make birdies.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
Yeah, so, uh, critics. Right here, we're at Nick and Jakes.
We've got the Ryder Cup going. I got some Premier
League soccer on. It's always a great spot, Cardinals Cubs.
But lots of TVs on the Ryder Cups. So if
you getting off four, come on by and see if
we can get things going, and see if you can
get an eagle on seven or thirteen. You will get
a ten dollars gift card. So we're here at Nick
(12:19):
and Jakes, Danny, where do you sit on the Chiefs?
And this Ravens game? Is it a must win? It's
certainly more important for the Chiefs than it is the
Ravens because their division looks much harder, and also, and
there's the schedule I think is harder and the Chiefs
are playing home and you can't throw another home game.
Speaker 4 (12:35):
I think the state of the Chiefs can be summed
up in the fact that here we are two games,
two home games into the NFL season, and the Chiefs
have been a home underdog at both games. So I mean,
the blooms off the roads right now and it's up
to the Chiefs to get that back.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
I do like this.
Speaker 4 (12:51):
I do like their chances in this game. I don't
think they're playing that well. So I'm not going to
be sitting here and say I'm uber confident, but you know,
the Ravens defense has been bad and they're injured. So uh,
if the if the Chiefs offense doesn't dial up something
this week, then you're really going to have to start
to be concerned about the offense again well this year,
(13:12):
because the Ravens are they they've scored over thirty points
in every game, but they were one and two.
Speaker 5 (13:18):
Yeah, if that can that happens also, then they're going
to be home a dog free straight home games. Right
Detroit's here in two weeks, which I don't that's not
not clearly not happened in the Mahmes era.
Speaker 3 (13:28):
No, no, probably we have here we got here, we're
on thirteen. This is ROM for Eagle, so you will
hear some excited here big or what do we got
to hear about? Twelve feet fifteen feet, twelve tops, twelve
tops looks more like ten to me. He missed it.
I missed it.
Speaker 4 (13:46):
But there they were. They were a mixed blessed. Yeah,
the fans wanted him to miss I mean.
Speaker 3 (13:51):
No, no, no, the fans did not. I think the
fans wanted to make it. Kevin Timmins wanted him to miss.
That was the one guy you heard miss it. Oh
so he didn't want a hand out. All the gift cards.
Speaker 4 (14:01):
I think they there was the two things that play there.
It was ROM.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
So it was going to be good. It was going
to be good for the Europeans, I know. But Timmins
was very much rooting for the minute.
Speaker 4 (14:11):
I think the I think the gift cards probably were
still being rooted for because that team is three three
up anyway, so.
Speaker 3 (14:19):
Yeah, so yeah, might as well. Yeah they're probably not
going to get back on that one anyway. So all right,
this is for Birdie. So yeah, this one not for
the gift cards, is ROM.
Speaker 4 (14:28):
No, he just to have the whole. Yeah, so I
think it is close to a must win from the
standpoint of what Curtis just talked about. They've got another
difficult home game, two games down the road, you lose
this game, and trying to.
Speaker 3 (14:45):
Blank what's in between they are at Adamson Yeah, at Jacksonville.
Speaker 4 (14:52):
Boy, I pulled that one.
Speaker 3 (14:53):
And and by the way, they're two and one. They
were my pick for a sleeper team. I almost took
the Colts. I knew it was going to be somebody
other than the Texans in that division. I don't like that.
I didn't like the Texans coming in at all. And
I went back and forth between the Colts and Jags.
I still might be right. I mean, they're only one
game on the Colts, but I do think Jacksonville is
a better team than what their record looks like last year.
(15:13):
So that's no give me either. And that's the part
that I keep coming back to. Not at any point
during this run, and largely because the division has sucked,
did you look at the schedule be like, well, they'll
get healthy here, like you could always been, well, they
got this three game stretch here, they'll take one out
of two of these, and you know, you still saw
the path to an excellent record. I can see the
path to nine and eight. Right if you lose this game,
(15:35):
I can see the path to nine and eight. I
can see the path to a record.
Speaker 4 (15:39):
That that's and I don't think that makes the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (15:42):
No, I definitely don't think it will at all. So yeah,
I think they got to get going. You know, Sam
McDowell feels differently. He thinks there's only he thinks there
might be a nine and eight. He thinks there's only
Like what I came here, if you said four teams
are five, maybe it's six teams five or six. He's like,
I don't see a seventeam that Like, you're really gonna worry,
(16:02):
but we'll see. I think part of that's because no
one's buying the Colts just yet.
Speaker 4 (16:06):
But let's right, and no one's and no one's buying Jacksonville.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
If the Colts go beat the Rams, you'll buy You'll
buy the Colts a lot more after this week. But yeah,
I I think it's really important based upon what they
have at the you know, with with with the schedule
where they have to go after this, I do think
it's it's a it's a critical game. And I think
(16:31):
the other thing is the Ravens are playing poorly, right,
So defensively, uh they are.
Speaker 4 (16:38):
And good luck getting rid of that fly.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
Ready, Yeah, that's mine. But they are, Jeff, they are
not playing well and so you have to take advantage
of them when they're not playing well, right, I mean,
that's the good news is defensively they've been brutal, and
so you know at that point you want them to.
Speaker 4 (16:55):
Can be can you be outscored? That's the point. I mean,
Lamar Jackson's been just fine. I mean they'd be three
and oh if Derrek Henry hadn't fumbled twice in the
fourth water yeah, in all likelihood.
Speaker 3 (17:09):
But the flip side is the chiefs hands will tell
you they'd be at least two and one. If Travis
Kelcey just catches the ball, I'm gonna win. They'd be
two and one. If Travis Kelson.
Speaker 4 (17:20):
Winning against a fly is you won't kill him. He
might get bored.
Speaker 1 (17:25):
You know.
Speaker 4 (17:25):
The only time I could kill a fly when I
worp sticks. No, when I worked at the bean factory.
Speaker 3 (17:31):
I don't want to hear this.
Speaker 4 (17:32):
The flies were so full of bean juice. They were
just all fat and slow. They couldn't fly. I mean
it was like it was like unbelieva. It was like
killing him, killing the moth. You know how easy that is.
They would just walk away. You could see how they say,
you have to you have to kill a fly. You know,
you flap your hands behind the fly because they take
(17:53):
off backwards. Flies take off backwards. I could see these
guys take off these flies. They got to run in
the only time I've ever been so I I kind
of got in this mode of way. Yeah, I can
kill a fly.
Speaker 3 (18:06):
No you can't. You can't.
Speaker 4 (18:07):
You really can't. Good to not spray. That's the only
way to kill a fly.
Speaker 3 (18:12):
They actually now have these guns that shoot salt. They're
like salt, so it's basically like a shotgun. Their little
pump like air things and they shoot salt.
Speaker 4 (18:22):
I got a shotgun style. So they're penetrating this. They
hit a circle. Yeah, and then you just have a
little salt on your on your floor.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
You get the fly. What are they called? Buck salt?
Buck salt. I'm gonna get one. Sounds fun. It does
sound fun. That's the reason why I want to do it.
A buddy of mine, it's been like a year ago.
They sent me a picture of it. He's like, you
gotta get you gotta get these They're great.
Speaker 5 (18:46):
Yeah, okay, I wait till we're sitting around, you're watching
games one night and al so they get buck salt
the back of my head.
Speaker 4 (18:52):
I just want to see if it worked. I think
that you know, you just look at the three results
for the Chiefs.
Speaker 3 (18:58):
But that was my point. I think you fans would say,
Travis Kelce catches the ball, we beat the Eagles first
game against the Chargers. Travis Kelce doesn't run in. Is
Xavier worthy we beat the Chargers. I mean, you're talking
about the rank.
Speaker 4 (19:10):
Either one of those are necessarily true.
Speaker 3 (19:12):
I don't think either one of them are definitively game
over right where. I do think that at least one
of the two Derrick Henry fumbles is game over right right.
And I would rather be the team that's trying to
figure out its defense than the one that's trying to.
Speaker 4 (19:25):
Figure out It's how I would agree with that too.
I was just gonna say, you look at the three
results the Chiefs to score twenty one, seventeen, and twenty two.
You know that's that's just not going to get it.
Speaker 3 (19:34):
They suck. I mean, that's that's that's the thing is, like,
you're not It's not just one aspect of it. They're
really they're not passing well, they're not running well.
Speaker 4 (19:43):
Mahomes two fifty eight point eighty seven to twenty four.
That's just you know, it's that's Danny Dimes.
Speaker 3 (19:49):
Yeah, yeah, it is. It is, but without Jonathan Taylor, right,
And that's that's the problem. We'll talk about whether or
not they'll run the ball better. We'll talk about the
college games as well. We're keeping an eye on the
Ryder Cup. You come on down here to Nick and Jakes.
The US trying to fight back here in the afternoon
right now, lou they're winning in one, losing it to
(20:09):
tied in the other. They're gonna have to flip one
of these and they're two holes down on one and
three holes down on the others. So they are running
away though they're five holes up in the one that
they're winning. But they got work to do. As we
come down the stretch here in the Ryder Cup, come
on by Nick and Jakes. Is where we are at
sixty eight thirty West one hundred and thirty fifth Street,
you're getting off work happy hour, Come on by and enjoy.
(20:30):
Come on by for dinner. They're wonderful. Octoberfest menu the
last couple of days of week one of the Octoberfest Menu.
I'll make sure you get in here every week because
they've got all kinds of great German fair here at
Nick and Jakes, where a one hundred and thirty fifth
of metcalf you can take advantage of it. If an
eagle happens on seven or thirteen, they are giving away
(20:50):
a ten dollars gift card to everyone in all three
Nick and Jakes. It's the program live here at Nick
and Jakes.
Speaker 1 (20:57):

the common Draft era, who was the only player from
UMass whom Missouri placed tomorrow be the first round draft pick?
Speaker 4 (21:45):
Oh? Wow, she's from Massachusetts, don't Cluton?
Speaker 3 (21:49):
Sixty eight? Did they go on to do anything? Or
is it just a name?
Speaker 4 (21:54):
One time pro bowler starting?
Speaker 3 (21:56):
Who's a quarterback?
Speaker 4 (21:57):
Started a playoff game?
Speaker 3 (21:58):
At least one playoff game? Ooh wow?
Speaker 5 (22:00):
From you mass And he even played a couple of
years so well, he didn't really get on the field
much for the Chicago.
Speaker 4 (22:06):
Blitz in the USFL.
Speaker 3 (22:08):
Oh and I wait a minute, so he did or
didn't get on the field for then?
Speaker 5 (22:10):
I think he played one game as an emergency starter
in eighty four or eighty three.
Speaker 3 (22:16):
Oh, I would have a chance to know him from that.
Speaker 5 (22:20):
Drafted by the Lions, Vince played most of his career
with the Lions. Made it his only Pro Bowl with
the Lions. Oh Landry Greg Landry number eleven overall picked
by the Lions in sixty eight.
Speaker 4 (22:37):
What is a high water mark for U Mass football.
They have been They have been one thirty fifth every
week by the athletic.
Speaker 3 (22:44):
When I was giving you an idea of U Mass,
theyre won thirty six. I went through whatever the last,
whatever the last is?
Speaker 4 (22:50):
Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3 (22:51):
The When I was at college, my pressman year, I
had a bunch of buddies ever like from Lexington, Massachusetts, Newton,
mass To all these different places in Massachusetts, and and
some of their friends would come up. And one of
these one of the guys buddies came up and I'm like, oh, yeah,
you you went to school with h with Derek. Yeah,
and where where are you going? Uh? Yeah, I don't
(23:12):
really want to say. Oh, I guess he goes because
I go to UMass. Oh how do you like it?
He goes, It sucks, it's terrible, he goes. You know,
it's it's all my it's all we can afford. And uh,
I said, well, why is it so bad? He goes, Well,
for one, you can't graduate in four years because you
can't get all the classes you need in four years.
Speaker 4 (23:29):
Like, no, I didn't even is it still that it's
a bad it's a bad school. I mean it was
just considered because there's so many good private schools in
New England. It's considered like where you send your kid
if they really aren't college material. But is it really
that bad or is it just because there's so many
good schools there. I think it's a combination of both.
I don't I don't think it was. It was a
(23:50):
very good school. It may have improved, so, but I
don't think it. But yes, it's also because you know,
you you're talking about a situation where there's three hundred quality, right,
you know, private schools in that area.
Speaker 3 (24:05):
So with u mask getting forty four, the only way
Missouri doesn't cover is if they try not.
Speaker 4 (24:10):
To, right, It depends on whether Missouri wants to play
their starters a little bit more. Look at this as
an opportunity to you know, because I can easily see
a scenario where they're up twenty eight nothing three or
four minutes into the second quarter. Do you pull the
plug on it then? Or do you wait the halftime?
I mean usually going to play your starters to the half,
but I could see them not wanting to do that.
(24:32):
They're in a situation now where because Sam Porn get hurt,
you really only have one quarterback you sure don't want
to lose him in a meaningless game or in a meaningless.
Speaker 3 (24:41):
Way, So.
Speaker 4 (24:44):
I would start, I would start to pull some players
for sure.
Speaker 3 (24:49):
That that brought that one back down to one hole?
Speaker 4 (24:52):
Right, yes, so well it is getting tighter. That was
can't lay He hit it close and made a short put.
Speaker 3 (25:00):
Okay, uh yeah, that cuts into one. So they got
a chance to get back and at least at least
end up not losing any more ground.
Speaker 4 (25:08):
Right and possibly are still tied in one and just
down one and one.
Speaker 3 (25:11):
Yeah, so they got a shot.
Speaker 4 (25:12):
They they could get back to maybe four and a half,
three and a half like that. That's very viable, uh,
form a zoo.
Speaker 3 (25:20):
I do think that's the question is how much do
you have to play the big boys to just keep
them in rhythm because the other because the other part
is you have a bye week on the other side
of that before Alabama. So I don't think you want
him sitting for two weeks, do you? No?
Speaker 4 (25:37):
But is is another twenty snaps probably not even that many.
Here's another twelve snaps worth the opportunity to get somebody hurt.
You know, you want a marred Hardy or Purbula they
get hurt or doing something like that.
Speaker 3 (25:53):
What are the what are the odds that you mass
is good enough to hurt anything.
Speaker 4 (25:57):
That's a good question.
Speaker 3 (25:59):
I mean, you always worry about somebody rolling up on
a lineman.
Speaker 4 (26:02):
Or just you know, non contacted here.
Speaker 5 (26:05):
How do you balance the desire to cover with the
desire to have everyone healthy when you play Alabama?
Speaker 3 (26:11):
Well, if this truly is the worst Division one football
team in the country, then I think you can cover
with your back.
Speaker 5 (26:16):
Oh yeah, yeah, just run the same offense and it's
grind it pass.
Speaker 3 (26:20):
I will state it again, if I were a college
football coach, I would never let off the gas. I
would just keep going deeper and deeper onto my roster.
But like when you let down. I even I saw
this in high school. You know, a high school game
was and I'm not even to say which one it was,
but it was clearly decided. There was about three minutes ago.
They send in the backup kids, and all the parents
of the backup kids are excited, Oh, yay, there goes
(26:42):
my you know, my son's in there. Yay. And then
they take a knee and I'm like, never, Like, the
backup kids need to learn how to run the offense.
I don't understand how the big, rough, tough United States
of America becomes such a gutless, softy cow word about
a score getting run up on them.
Speaker 4 (27:05):
Doing get better as a simple phrase that's exactly right.
Speaker 3 (27:08):
Yeah, I don't, I honestly, I especially at that level,
well at that level, better at that level what it is,
And I think I think maybe even as you go
higher in the levels, it's about, well, what if I
need a job and I ran up the score on
this guy, I won't get hired over there. I mean,
I think it's just I think for most coaches it's
(27:28):
selfishness because they worry about what their reputation is going
to be to get a job somewhere else. Like your
backups need to play, and you know, if you want
them to get better, they need to play to play
the way they're gonna play.
Speaker 4 (27:39):
I don't have any problem with putting backups in and
throwing the football. For instance, you know tomorrow tomorrow, if
missou does that, they don't know much about the it's
a freshman nat yeah, so uh they want him to
play some real football.
Speaker 5 (27:52):
And without with the other backup done for the year. Yes,
he's not seeing the field except just a couple of plays.
Speaker 3 (27:58):
Like they said, if MISSOO could get out to it
would probably take twenty eight nothing because it's to some
degree if you go to the backup at fourteen nothing,
you're kind of insulting the other team. You're like, this
is over. So you you run it out to twenty
eight nothing. All the backups come on the field and
you keep running the offense.
Speaker 4 (28:13):
Right, you know completely. If you're an SEC team, your
backup should be better than you.
Speaker 3 (28:18):
Mess.
Speaker 4 (28:18):
Yes, so you shouldn't really worry about No. You should be.
Speaker 3 (28:22):
Able to And if given the opportunity, if it's forty
two and there's three seconds left and we're twenty eight
yards away, would you line up a field goal? No,
I would one hundred percent.
Speaker 4 (28:34):
I would one hundred percent I try to score a touchdown.
Speaker 3 (28:38):
I would line up to Fiji, let's go. We're going
to get the cover for the alumni. I would tell
the alumni part of my speech, wud be if you
bet us, every time I get a chance to cover,
I will cover.
Speaker 4 (28:49):
Well, if you've been with the backups. If you made
that speech, then I would get the field goal. But
I wouldn't make the speech.
Speaker 5 (28:57):
Missouri was in that spot a couple of years ago,
when maybe it was last year when they played the
Mississippi State and they were up nineteen and had the
ball goal to go and they just sat on it
and some of there was some jawing back and forth
between the Misissippi State players and the Missouri sideline and
Eli Drinkwich was on camera going, hey, Missisippi State, shut
the blank up where I'm going to score?
Speaker 4 (29:15):
Yeah, right, and they just laid on us.
Speaker 5 (29:17):
So he had an opportunity to crash it in and didn't,
and that opportunity that spot there.
Speaker 4 (29:22):
Yeah, how much of a similarity that is?
Speaker 3 (29:24):
Yeah, how about the Cats the whole season riding on this?
Speaker 4 (29:30):
I've yeah, I mean I don't think you can lose
a home game. You know, it's not like they're playing
a horrendous opponent. In fact, you know, we don't know
how bad in North Carolina is, but they trucked them.
So I mean, yeah, I think that there's a lot
of seemingly a lot of dynamics. There's some rumblings that
(29:52):
you know, there's going to be big time transferring by
big time players maybe after the season, and I think
to get things straight doubt, and you know that that's
another reason that losing games these days hurts. You know,
you got a guy who's a good, viable football say,
you know Avery Johnson. He looks around and he goes,
we god, we were three and nine this year. I
(30:14):
want to do this again. If I love pull Manhattan
and now I don't know, maybe he's got an iron
clad you know, nil contract or something, and you can't
do it. But you lose games, it's much less attractive
for your players to stay where they are.
Speaker 3 (30:29):
Yeah. I do think that's one of the things that's
going to have to come about, is that the nil
deal is like you know, signing bonuses, Well, you're paying
it back if you're.
Speaker 4 (30:37):
Leaving right, you know, and which you could still do
if you if.
Speaker 3 (30:41):
You've played so well and you oh, five hundred thousand
backs for your nil deal but you're great, then Alabama's
going to give you two point five and you can
do it. Here's the five hundred thousand I'm I'm going
for too.
Speaker 4 (30:51):
Maybe these deals will be multi year deals and you're
just going to stay that. People just are going to say, well,
I'm paying this kind of money. I want to make
sure this guys.
Speaker 3 (31:00):
But that's but I don't think there's any any way
that there's no legal way to make him say like, okay,
you just don't pay me anymore unless you've said unless.
Speaker 4 (31:09):
It's they don't have a contract now with these nil things.
Speaker 3 (31:12):
They do they have so well, now they're supposed to
be vetted that they actually have to do something for
the ANI, right, so they would have seemingly earned whatever
they've been given to that point, and then they would
just get no more moving forward.
Speaker 4 (31:25):
I just see a scenario where they could actually sign
a contract that's in writing that they have to stay,
but I don't know, maybe that's not gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (31:33):
Yeah, and if he doesn't, what do they do? Jail them?
Speaker 4 (31:39):
Well, it's preach of contract, I mean, and take them
to court.
Speaker 3 (31:43):
Yeah that's true.
Speaker 4 (31:44):
But anyway, the football aspect of it, they don't. They
don't look good. Chris Climban seems kind of lost. This
is his first dose at k State of and of
course as a head coach. I mean, he didn't lose
any hardly any games before he came to Manhattan, and
he's saying things that reek of desperation. I don't think
it's good. What has he said that you you wells,
(32:04):
I'm gonna play. I'm gonna play guys who are you know,
have good eye discipline. We're going to make major changes.
He looks like somebody who's like kind of felt like
he what's going on.
Speaker 3 (32:17):
Well, they're not getting housed. It's not like they're getting
blown out. No, they're just not winning, right. But I
don't disagree with your read on what he's saying. I
don't disagree with that at all.
Speaker 4 (32:28):
Yeah, that's part of the reason. That's part of the reason.
I'm a little surprised because I don't think they've played horrendously,
but they've lost. And he's speaking like a man who's
gotten routed a couple of times in a row.
Speaker 3 (32:42):
How much is the quarterback?
Speaker 4 (32:45):
It's a lot. I mean, he had like eighty yards
of total offense in the last game and he's not running.
I mean, that's a big part of what he does.
He's the fastest player on the team. There's a lot
going on there. And you know, while the narrative is
that there's you know, small individual mistakes by one guy
(33:05):
and then then the next guy, and then the next guy,
and overall the defense isn't really playing that bad? Well,
you know, so what the results aren't necessarily I mean
to me, if that's the case.
Speaker 3 (33:17):
Then that's all that's worse as everybody's screwing.
Speaker 4 (33:20):
Up and the other the other teams are possessing the
football on them. They've run like fifty something plays last
week and they play in the forties the week before.
As far as running plays run are concerned, there's just
just a lot of they need to get well. If
the buy came at a perfect time, I will say that, yeah,
they needed a reset for sure.
Speaker 3 (33:41):
I don't think. I think if each each time it's
somebody different, I mean that is that is the worst
possible saying. I mean, you don't how many mistakes do
you really make? You know? Like, if that's the case,
they have completely tuned out the coaches. If everybody's if
a different guy every time he's making a mistake, then
what the hell is really going on? Because usually what
happens when you get beat on defenses you got out athleted.
Speaker 4 (34:04):
Right or But I think what they're saying is we're
blowing a coverage here, guys missing an assignment here, you know, And.
Speaker 3 (34:11):
That's the worst possible say, because it means nobody's paying attention.
Speaker 4 (34:14):
Right, I would say, well, blowing a I mean, I
guess you could just make a bad play in the
secondary without blowing a couver.
Speaker 3 (34:20):
Well when I when you say blow a coverage to me,
I think of okay, I didn't drop back and here's
a guy running wide open. Right If blow a coverage
means the guy the receiver jumped up over his head
and caught it, I don't see that as blowing coverage.
I see the other guy out athlete, did you? You know?
But if you're consistently your defensive players are in the wrong,
and it's a different guy every time. If it's one guy, okay,
(34:42):
we got more jackasses on paying attention.
Speaker 4 (34:44):
But if every time, like Ben him.
Speaker 3 (34:46):
Like if somebody thought that sounded good, that like, well,
it's a different guy every time that sounds awful.
Speaker 4 (34:51):
Right, Well, with one guy one way or another, it's
a it's a vital game for them, yes, because the
psyche isn't good either, and if they start to play,
they're gonna lose their home advantage. If they start to
play slightly poorly, it's gonna be quiet in the stadium
and the fans are already restless. They thought this was
going to be a special you know, to look at
(35:12):
how many people went to Ireland to follow this team.
Speaker 3 (35:16):
By the way, this is for eagle on thirteen by
two inches.
Speaker 4 (35:23):
Well don't don't count on Cam Young to also also,
he just had to lag it up there to win
the match, so he didn't care whether you made it
or not.
Speaker 3 (35:32):
Yeah, yeah, there's one in the bag for the sixth
and five.
Speaker 4 (35:38):
If there have been four matches concluded so far in
this or five matches concluded, there's only been one close one.

It's glistening, listening with goodness and butter.
Speaker 3 (38:48):
Yeah, but I think the butter it's butter and salt
on bread, right. I mean it's delicious, it's delightful fun.
Speaker 4 (38:57):
One of my favorite word different and says or phrase
differences is how in the Midwest we call that tasty
treat funnel cakes, and in New England or you go
to the beach or whatever, it's the same product and
they just call it fried dough. We're not missing, We're not.
(39:18):
Come on, man, we're not We're not fried dough.

Right He's happy right now.
Speaker 3 (39:41):
Let me tell you.
Speaker 4 (39:41):
Yeah, he and his golf buddy, they didn't play very
good golf and they're they're trying to wash that feeling away.
Speaker 3 (39:49):
Yeah. Well they're also trying to root the US home
and that's not working either.
Speaker 4 (39:53):
That's the thing.
Speaker 3 (39:54):
It looks like their rooting ability is about as good
as their golf ability.
Speaker 4 (39:57):
Today, not a good day on the On the well.
Speaker 3 (40:00):
You know, Rory's gonna line up for the for the eagle.
We'll let you know if he gets it. Everybody will
be getting a ten dollar gift card.
Speaker 4 (40:06):
They can be able to tell, you'll be able to know.
Speaker 3 (40:08):
You'll be able to tell. Danny the Jayhawks now four
and a half point favorites over Cincinnati. Want to help
me out about why that number is not bigger. I
took the Bearcats because I can't figure out why it's
not bigger.
Speaker 4 (40:19):
Well, the Bearcats have you know that their defense has
played well. I mean they haven't. You know, they haven't
played terrible opposition. They played a you know before seventy
five thousand partisan fans. They barely lost to Nebraska. Nebraska's okay,
So I don't think they feel like Kansas is maybe proven.
It's also a testimony. Last week we saw that they
(40:40):
clearly think that West Virginia isn't very good, as they
had them as a two touchdown touchdown underdog at Kansas.
So I think that's a combination of those things. And
Kansas has allowed teams to rush to football. Cincinnati has
a good quarterback, is a dual threat quarterback. I mean
West Virginia almost ran for two hundred yards against Kansas
last week in a low so uh, and you know
(41:02):
they got blown out, but they did run the football.
So there's some issues there and they what they need,
especially in this game that they didn't even get even
though they won. As Jalen Daniels wasn't particularly good last week.
He overthrew some guys early, ended up at fifty percent completions,
but they won despite that. So the UH was that
(41:23):
that was can'tle what.
Speaker 3 (41:24):
Was it for?
Speaker 4 (41:25):
Was it for Birdie?
Speaker 3 (41:25):
I thought it was Bertie. Okay, I believe oh see,
maybe or wrong, maybe it's not going to be freegl anyway,
we'll let you.
Speaker 4 (41:30):
I think Roy's is freegl Roy's is Freegal Okay. So
not positive though.
Speaker 3 (41:35):
By the way, Wisconsin, will they come calling for Lance Letpult?
You got fifteen seconds to answer.
Speaker 4 (41:41):
I think they're yes. I think they would come calling.
I don't know if he would go, but I think
they'll come calling.
Speaker 3 (41:46):
It's uh, it's it's Lane Kiffen and Eli Drinkwitz that
Florida's talking about right now. They haven't fired their coach,
but that's what they're talking about there, so it could
be going through one of those cycles here locally pretty soon. Danny,
great stuff. We appreciated. Talk again next week sounds great.
Bring the American home Baby, do something today.
