Speaker 1 (00:04):
Welcome to the Danny Clinkscale, reasonably irreverent podcast, insightful and
witty commentary, probing interviews and detours from the beaten path.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Every once in a while, we have to bring out
the big dog.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
Yeah, oh God help us.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
It's time for Danny Unleashed, sponsored by Eastern Roofing where
integrity matters. Go to Eastern Roofing dot com for more good.
Speaker 4 (00:49):
I can't help getting that problem number too. The program
begins right now.
Speaker 5 (00:53):
All well, Danny Unleash, brought to you by our friends
at Easton Roofing.
Speaker 4 (00:58):
Guess who was at my house today?
Speaker 3 (00:59):
Danny Joe Spiker from Eastern roof I.
Speaker 4 (01:02):
Didn't see him. Eastern Roofing was there.
Speaker 6 (01:05):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (01:06):
We have holiday lights. We're ready to rock and roll
as soon as it gets dark tonight. As soon as
I turn out the lights on handing out the candy
deck the halls.
Speaker 4 (01:17):
Baby, there you go.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
You're at least you're waiting for after the candy.
Speaker 4 (01:20):
Though, Yeah, I'm waiting for once once.
Speaker 5 (01:22):
I you know, once the light goes off and we're
no longer handing out treats, then that's it. I turned
the page. Very freaking Christmas.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
So how is your neighborhood for trick or treating?
Speaker 5 (01:34):
Uh, we're pretty We're pretty good. We're I mean, are
you know, like neighborhood's going to go through those where
they they seem to turn over. You know, there's some
neighborhoods close to us that it's like you go to
you go to the Uh, you go down the street
and you're like, oh my god, like I need to
park my car two blocks away. Even going like two
miles an hour, You're you're terrified because it's like the
whole street is everything around you is moving.
Speaker 4 (01:55):
There's so many kids. We're not like that.
Speaker 5 (01:57):
We have some little kids that come by, but the
neighborhoods getting younger again.
Speaker 3 (02:02):
Right, so our neighborhood's terrible. I mean we've basically don't.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
What does that mean? Too many kids?
Speaker 3 (02:08):
Not enough kids, not enough kids, so like just super sporadic.
Maybe we've stopped. We just don't. We don't go home
because we got the dog. So seven times in three
hours we're going to have the dogs going bananas for
a trick or treater and half of them don't even
(02:31):
have a costume.
Speaker 5 (02:32):
Scumbag. So I'm like, you absolute scumbag, just ducking out
on the candy duties.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
I like it when it's busy. I enjoyed the whole process,
making people smile and giving an extra When.
Speaker 5 (02:45):
Was the last time you made someone smile?
Speaker 7 (02:47):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (02:47):
It happens every day, every single day, multiple times.
Speaker 8 (02:52):
The first year that I moved into my current complex
was the first time I'd ever seen trick or treaters
in any of the complexes I lived in. I was
pulling in and I saw four or five groups. I'm like,
I guess I'll turn around, go up to hint house
and get some candy. Got three bags, got a bowl,
not one, knock three nothing Since twenty ten, not one
(03:13):
person is not I know I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
You know.
Speaker 9 (03:17):
He was like, well, I guess they guess they're coming here.
Speaker 4 (03:19):
That was his original read. No one's coming here. He's like,
oh wow, this is different, Okay, stocked up and right, yeah.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
Right, Well you know what, ordinarily, even if there aren't
children in the complex, it would be easy trick or
treating one. Yeah, it's right, Yeah, you know, he was
wave in there.
Speaker 9 (03:35):
Now.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
I grew up in a Catholic neighborhood, so it was
like waves of We had six children, We had the
least in our neighborhood, the least seven eight thirteen at
the Martinos, plus a couple live in boyfriends. Oh mess,
(03:55):
Sure we loved it that they always had a giant
pot of sauce on the stove at all times and
meatballs and then a big pot and so at any time,
you know, you you're supposed to throw it in the water.
And you could go up to the Martinos and eat
spaghetti and meatballs anytime you want strong.
Speaker 5 (04:17):
That's awesome.
Speaker 9 (04:18):
Yeah, it was awesome.
Speaker 5 (04:19):
That is awesome.
Speaker 8 (04:20):
We had ours was about four blocks by six blocks.
Must have been fifteen or twenty of us kids, all
within the same two or three year range. So it
was it was the greatest night ever. Because there were
no fund you could just roam the whole felt like
we were out there for four hours.
Speaker 9 (04:37):
Probably a couple of hours, but yeah, And it was.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
A tightly knit residential area and everybody, you know, knew
there were going to be hundreds of kids, so you
could cover a lot of ground. I'd fill up a pillowcase,
yeah with candy.
Speaker 5 (04:51):
A buddy of ours Texas we give out the big bars,
full candy bars.
Speaker 4 (04:56):
That's great and hot apple cider for the parents.
Speaker 9 (05:01):
Very nice.
Speaker 5 (05:01):
Our buddy Sean.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
Texted me that, well as you can heap on. And
I remember, I'm old enough to I remember the exact
year when they brought out fun size you know, up
until this was near the end of my run, so
it was probably up through eleven years old. You got
false all, you know, Milky Way, snicker all, full size bars.
(05:27):
The whole thing was full size, bigger. Then then yeah,
then they were even bigger, full size bar. And then
the next year it's all of a sudden, those geniuses
whoever they were, came out with I went.
Speaker 9 (05:37):
What the this?
Speaker 3 (05:41):
I hit it just in case you're just going to
be you're down road, Okay, Yeah, that was disappointing.
Speaker 8 (05:53):
Disappointing for sure, just making money for them and keeping
you from candy.
Speaker 4 (05:57):
And now now it's the American way.
Speaker 5 (06:00):
Yeah, you buy everything anywhere, like you buy any fast food.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
You're like, I know, this sandwich was bigger, you know,
just it's like.
Speaker 3 (06:09):
Oh, you know, it's the worst criminal offense is ice
cream is no longer a half gallon.
Speaker 9 (06:15):
Oh no, there's one.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
It's it's less than a half gallon. It's like a
couple of ounces three four ounces, less than a half
those tubs they used to be an actual Yeah, I
think maybe blue Bill. That makes a big deal to
make a full half gallon.
Speaker 9 (06:28):
And it looks you look at you like things huge?
What everything used to be?
Speaker 5 (06:33):
You fat ass?
Speaker 9 (06:34):
Yeah that's me.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
That's me.
Speaker 4 (06:38):
Give me, give me my extra three ounces of ice cream.
Speaker 9 (06:42):
I'm with you. It is.
Speaker 5 (06:43):
It is amazing. How like, oh, yeah, we're not gonna
raise price, We're just going to give.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
You a less That's right, that's still raising prices. Jack
ass chips box. The reasons gets you open it up.
It's a third full.
Speaker 8 (06:54):
There's a reason why they took the little window. Any
bag of chips is like, like what, there's the reason
when they took the little window out of the chips
so you can't tell that the entire bags filled with air. Yeah,
that's also fun. You go to for my first time
in Colorado and the get things off your chest, the
difference in the pressure. Every bag of chips looks like
it's about to explode because it's so fullyed, Like.
Speaker 4 (07:17):
What did you do pack a suitcase full of chips?
Speaker 8 (07:20):
No, But then you go to the store and there's
every every bag of chips on this on the shelf
is like that least it was.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
I you're saying like as you went innovation.
Speaker 8 (07:28):
Now you go to a little store there and Dylan
and you're like every back of chips is like not
ready to explode. It's like, Okay, I said something I
hadn't I hadn't seen before. Weren't ready for more demand. Well,
welcome Danny, Well, happy Halloween.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
Everybody went to all and a man who gives out
the full bars.
Speaker 9 (07:48):
That is awesome.
Speaker 5 (07:50):
He's a generous man.
Speaker 9 (07:51):
Yeah, that what he is very generous.
Speaker 4 (07:54):
And we encourage everybody be careful.
Speaker 5 (07:56):
Kid's gonna be out there all around, so extra extra
careful while you're driving around.
Speaker 8 (08:00):
Just on a Friday night when people are out and about.
That's yeah, I mean this is even more danger.
Speaker 4 (08:05):
You know, nothing like a good dark costume a dark night.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
You know, if they were really thinking they've turned that
back the clocks the day before Halloween.
Speaker 5 (08:15):
No, I think the day after is better because you'd
get a chance to get some light for the little kids.
Speaker 6 (08:19):
Really, don't most people wait until it gets dark to
bring their kids out.
Speaker 5 (08:23):
Well, I don't know. We get your little kids tend
to come okay, right, like five point thirty five fifteen,
like you.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
That's good if it makes it safer. I just always
thought people kind of waited till it gots.
Speaker 5 (08:32):
How about this, how about stop messing with it, like,
stop turning the clocks back. Nobody likes standard time, nobody
likes it getting dark early. Knocked this crap off. How
about we just do away with that. That's the worst part.
You know how much I hate it. I've been lamenting
it for four weeks that it's.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
Coming well, yeah, because it starts to get darker earlier
than you realize. My god, when they turn the clocks back,
it's going to be eight o'clock before it's light out.
I mean, it's it's I think we should have two
hours of daylight savings time all the time.
Speaker 4 (09:02):
I hate leaving here and it's black.
Speaker 9 (09:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (09:06):
The only plus, only plus is that we get an
extra hour of sleep on the for the pregame.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
It's one day, one one whole day.
Speaker 5 (09:16):
Danny, real quick, I know you're a big baseball fan.
What happens tonight? Do we get a game seven? Do
the J's close it out?
Speaker 3 (09:23):
I think the J's are going to close it out,
and I think they better close it out because I
think if it goes to a Game seven, I like
the Dodgers, why, just because of the championship pedigree and
the fact that they can roll out everything they have. Uh,
you know, the Dodgers best prescription is for Yamamoto to
(09:43):
Yamamoto tonight and then you've got Otani, you know, for
a few and so we'll see. But they've got they
can use Otani tonight if they want, and I think
they might. But I think the Blue Jays are going
to score because I think it's just law of averages.
I don't think Yamamoto can be that. He was so
(10:07):
fantastic and he's not really a you know, strikeout pitcher
per se. Uh you know, he's tough to hit. I mean,
it's a great combination that he's got right now because
he throws the ball low in the zone, which is unusual. Now,
he throws his fastball low in the zone, and then
he's got the split off it, which is virtually unhittable.
So when he's got the low fastball, go I mean,
it is a great combination, especially in an era where
(10:28):
most guys elevate the fastball. And then when he occasionally
does elevate the fastball.
Speaker 9 (10:33):
It's like, what but I think.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
They try to run the do what they did to
blake'snew in the first game in his first start, run
the pitch cup count up. Even maybe if they don't
get to Yamamoto or get to him for a couple
then you're into the Dodger bullpen, which stinks, although they
probably will try to avoid anybody who's actually the real
I mean they've kept, you know, throwing trying it out there,
(10:59):
you know, you know, just saying not going away from him,
and it just hasn't. But it doesn't matter whoever they
throw out there, who's not a former starter, it gets
It's it's like a disease.
Speaker 9 (11:11):
They have right now in the bullpen.
Speaker 6 (11:12):
So the Jays will win tonight, but I think if
it goes seven, I like the Dodgers.
Speaker 8 (11:20):
That's what I said's been so bad you almost expect
them to hit one of his warm up pitches out
of the park. I mean, it's everything he throws.
Speaker 5 (11:28):
Are you are you surprised that the Dodgers are kind
of an island of misfit toys with with all the
money they've spent that it doesn't well Jeff. Jeff wouldn't
really taken that, but I think their bullpen is and
he's like, well, they tried with this guy and that guy.
Speaker 4 (11:43):
I'm like, yeah, I know.
Speaker 5 (11:44):
But for for all the accolades they get, I know
that they've got some injuries, but they always have injuries,
they clearly, and I think the Royals are going down
that road. The Rays always have injuries. I think teams
that give guys weapons and tinker and you know that
it puts more stress on them, they're going.
Speaker 9 (11:59):
To get hurt.
Speaker 4 (11:59):
When they're health they look pretty good.
Speaker 5 (12:01):
And that was the news for the Dodgers was they
got their starting pitching healthy at just the right time,
and so it was going there. But I still come
back and say they get heralded for their farm system,
which they've done a great job. They spend all kinds
of gobs of money on everybody. There's no reason for
the bullpen to be this broken. On the defense to
(12:21):
be that bad, I mean, I think you have there
has to have been some mistakes made in their team building.
Speaker 3 (12:27):
Well, eventually, you can't have. They've had a robust farm
system for a long time, but they kept trading them
off and eventually it catches up with you, and it
has their entire starting their position players are all old.
And if Bets and Otani slump at the same time,
which is what they're doing now, it puts more pressure.
You know, it's easy to be a you know, an
(12:49):
extra man, a key k Hernandez, you know whatever. If
the if the big boys are hitting, then if you
do anything, yes, great pressure is off. Now if you're
not scoring and it's like two men on and your
kik and you're up there like you got to hit, buddy, Yeah,
your job is to hit now.
Speaker 5 (13:05):
Craig Counsel and Joe McEwing aren't the heroes when they're
batting lead.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
Off right and also against excellent pitching. Usually your role
players just aren't as good. And that's what the Dodgers are.
Speaker 9 (13:18):
You.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
You can't have Mookie Bets. He's been awful overall, and
Tony's had flashes, but they've only been flashes. They've been
amazing flashes, but in general, he hasn't hit in the postseason.
And you know that's two of your three major four.
They've got four major weapons. I mean, Will Smith is
a major weapon.
Speaker 4 (13:38):
He can't block a ball.
Speaker 3 (13:40):
You know, that's true, although was that the worst pass
ball you've ever seen?
Speaker 7 (13:44):
So?
Speaker 3 (13:44):
Given they did they change that?
Speaker 5 (13:47):
I think they all were wild pitches.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
Okay, they're like two feet outside?
Speaker 9 (13:52):
Yeah, fastball? Are you kidding? What was that?
Speaker 5 (13:56):
Guy? What? What do you think you got here?
Speaker 3 (13:59):
I mean, this is this is in ingest for all
the well, it's sort of in ingest. It's almost like
you have to take a baseball test and fail it
to be an official score.
Speaker 8 (14:13):
Well I had, I do, You're perfect?
Speaker 5 (14:17):
They they I remember going down to the scorekeeper of
the Royals, you know, which was there's there's usually several
guys that do that, jod, so no one's going to
know which guide is. I'll be happy to share it
with you over the air, going down and going how
how is that a hit? And the answer I got
(14:38):
was how else is Mike Sweeney gonna win a batting title?
I'm like, you've got to be kidding me. Those words
just came out of your mouth. You're the score come awful?
Speaker 3 (14:48):
I think now I don't understand it, because yes, sun Ball, Sunball.
Speaker 9 (14:52):
We've told that story.
Speaker 4 (14:53):
Many times, Mason, Sunball, Sunball.
Speaker 3 (14:55):
Once they announced it, we went down Sunball and they say, yeah,
it's in the book.
Speaker 6 (15:00):
So we hauled the rule book out. No, no reference
to the sun. It was written by this person in
their blue paper pens.
Speaker 3 (15:09):
So, yes, the scorekeepers can be real treats, right. So,
but there's somebody's always getting hurt. I understand, you know that. Okay,
it's nice, it's generous to give these hits, but then
you're killing the pictures and you're killing the fielder. Yeah,
Slappy gets an air, you know, you're saving him. You're
you're skewing defensive.
Speaker 9 (15:30):
You know.
Speaker 6 (15:31):
If somebody does make quite a few errors during the
course of the season, now you just.
Speaker 3 (15:35):
Know he's a butcher because it's so hard to get
an error.
Speaker 6 (15:41):
Yeah that that okay, Well, let's add about fifty five
percent to that total. And so he and he really
must have kicked some beauties too, that's the thing. Yeah,
you've got to like right at you, going slow to
get an error. I mean, if it's got any v
loo on it, hit it was hard.
Speaker 4 (16:05):
Yes, they're big leaguers.
Speaker 6 (16:07):
Yeah, and then the pictures and their pictures are getting screwed.
Speaker 4 (16:11):
I mean base hit movement requires Yeah, it's like, didn't
hit him in the glove.
Speaker 6 (16:16):
I think they always say, is that an ordinary defensive effort?
Speaker 3 (16:24):
Well, apparently they think that. You know, this is no
you know this is the special Olympics base something. I mean,
come on, these are made. These are the top people
in the world at what they do. You know, a
slight miss, it's allowed. They they the thing is on
half of them. The fielder themselves would say that was
(16:46):
an error. Yeah for sure, I who you're protecting. I
should have had that.
Speaker 4 (16:51):
Anyway, let's take a break, will shift gears.
Speaker 5 (16:53):
We will get into some college football as well as

The Nick and Jakes into the Hour answer. Over the
last fifty years, thirty five pitchers have started a World
Series elimination game on the road. How many got a
complete game win?
Speaker 9 (18:21):
How last?
Speaker 3 (18:22):
How many years?
Speaker 8 (18:22):
Fifty years nineteen seventy five to now? Thirty five pictures
have started a World Series elimination game on the road.
How many got a complete game.
Speaker 4 (18:30):
Win where they could be eliminated?
Speaker 9 (18:32):
Yes, there the eliminating.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
Their team was facing Jack Morris.
Speaker 5 (18:37):
Did it, didn't they?
Speaker 4 (18:38):
Tenanting his little Tenanting deal? Wasn't that an elimination game?
Speaker 11 (18:42):
Not?
Speaker 9 (18:42):
According it wasn't on the road.
Speaker 12 (18:44):
Oh, God, that's right, it's a Minnesota What happened? Yeah,
it was like tonight four I'll say one one. You
know who it is, Danny Jackson. Wow, Game five nineteen
eighty five at Saint Louis.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
That's kind of amazing that. You know, way back you
weren't getting the odd complete gamers. Yeah, when they would
go longer, But it was just about the time the
four seventy five there were a few. It was about
the time the dominant closers starting to come in.
Speaker 5 (19:17):
If you are a cheap ass like Danny and don't
want to answer the door and get candy to the kids,
head over to Nick and Jakes. They got you covered.
We just gave away Nick and Jakes the Adams Family feast.
I was informed Jen, who does a great job with
the menu and all the different specials that they have
and everything, and she came up with a great Adams
(19:37):
Family Halloween theme of all the items.
Speaker 9 (19:41):
We knew that was her.
Speaker 5 (19:41):
Remember I was asking about Gomez's Carama cuts. Yeah, Caramia
is what he calls, uh my wife.
Speaker 9 (19:48):
Yeah, so my heaven or my something.
Speaker 5 (19:51):
Yeah, I don't know what it means.
Speaker 9 (19:54):
I look at that she sent me.
Speaker 4 (19:55):
She's like, you know, I'm sure she's like, hey, dumbass
was here.
Speaker 5 (19:58):
It is because I asked about it, you know it okay,
my beloved, Yeah, and she sent she sent me the
clip from the movie. How cool is that? I'm like, nice, okay,
And we knew that was her.
Speaker 4 (20:08):
We knew it was.
Speaker 12 (20:09):
So.
Speaker 5 (20:09):
Whether you want the Pugsley's Dirt and Worms cheesecake, Uh,
the Gomez's car Emea cuts, that's all their wonderful steaks,
a Motitia's Midnight Seafood Feta chini. Uh, that that might
be my dinner tonight.
Speaker 9 (20:21):
Be honest with you work.
Speaker 5 (20:22):
Uh, they got you covered tonight. Nick and Jakes if
you want to go by all kinds of spooky cocktails
as well at Nick and Jake's three locations dining, carry
out delivery, nickinjakes dot Com, Danny clinkscales here. I am
brought to you by friends at Easton Roof. And what
did you What did you make of the Jayhawks?
Speaker 9 (20:42):
Well?
Speaker 3 (20:42):
I wasn't that surprised. I did pick you picked the cats.
Speaker 4 (20:46):
The rest of us were all on k you you
you said cats.
Speaker 3 (20:49):
I think that it just has become more evident as
the year has gone along that the player procurement wasn't
great in the off season for Kansas They lost a lot.
They had fine wide receivers, they had a good offensive line.
Last year, they had some dangerous people on defense, and
they have none of that. And I think they've been
(21:09):
carried by generally being okay at several things. And Jalen
Daniels has had a great season. But Jalen Daniels, even
in his good times, has been a mistake prone player.
He does make mistakes even in the course of a
good game. And that all added up and I think
Kansas State has underachieved this year. I think they are
(21:32):
better than they've shown, and that started to show itself
the last couple of weeks. And when Avery Johnson plays
to a level he's capable of but has only scratched
maybe half the time, and they're real good.
Speaker 5 (21:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (21:48):
So they've got some nice rotations in the defensive line.
I don't think the rest of their defense is any
kind of stand out as far as the personnel is concerned,
is just solid.
Speaker 4 (22:00):
They clearly had Jalen Daniels spooked.
Speaker 9 (22:02):
They did.
Speaker 5 (22:02):
I mean he didn't he he was I mean not
handling what he was seeing was clearly not anything they'd
talked about on tape. No.
Speaker 3 (22:11):
And he also was seeing pressure when there really wasn't
that much pressure, and there was pressure enough that to
make him feel that way.
Speaker 5 (22:18):
That's what surprised me, especially with k State losing their
you know, best pass rush, right, it's like wire is
all this coming from we.
Speaker 3 (22:26):
K State under Chris Climban has always done heavy rotation
on the defensive line, and they've used more undersized, speedier
players who can rush the passer and you know, be
versatile and stuff like that, and so just sometimes that
hurts them. But Kansas running game, especially because of the
offensive line, isn't what it was the last couple of years.
(22:48):
And you know, you had in a couple of bad
mistakes and k State was just tougher mentally too. I mean,
to give up a touchdown on the first play of
the game basically, or hand over the keys to a
touchdown and just sort of shrug it off. And I
am a little mystified by I think the Kansas fans
(23:08):
have every right to be frustrated that they get their
ass kicked that bad in a home game, no question
about that, But to parlay it into the fact that
the programs going sideways and you know, make or break
time for Lance Leippold. I think that's a little rich.
But I'm not saying that. You know, you can go
out and not be good next year, but look at
where they were. Yeah, you still have to. I think
(23:32):
the mindset we've seen it. I think I looked at
it the other day and they're let we're there. Have
been twenty i think twenty three pre November coaching firings
or resignations in the last five years, and in the
previous five years they were like seven. Yeah, it just
has shown people think that because people have turned it
(23:54):
around and it's possible to turn things around quickly with
roster building and il money, and you see Indiana rising
up and Vanderbilt. Everybody thinks it's easy to do. Well,
it's not, and everybody's trying.
Speaker 5 (24:07):
Clark Lee's been down a Vanderbilt for a while. I mean,
this is year two for him, right, and it's it's
he's been going at it. Yeah, I agree. Listen, it
was a really disappointing game. Is the most disappointing game
Lance Libels had. There's no there's no way around it.
And you know, if they fight their way to a
bowl game. It's progress. You know, they were all off
season last year they were talking about how many seniors
(24:28):
they had, right, and then it and then it was
like because they didn't end up having the year that
people wanted him to have last year, well that meant
that this year would be better. No, this is the
rebuilding year.
Speaker 4 (24:38):
Last year ye the year they should have got it done.
Speaker 6 (24:41):
And they should it by winning what three three games against.
Speaker 3 (24:45):
Frank ranked teams? That that that that team was pretty good? Yeah,
uh and should have been better. What chance do you
give the Cats against Tech?
Speaker 9 (24:55):
Well?
Speaker 3 (24:55):
I would have given them much better chance if Morton
wasn't coming back. Anybody who's watching Texas Tech play this year,
if they wore a different squad. When Morton played quarterback,
they were terrifying, just much Kansas game, right, And when
he went down that changed things. Now, their defense still
has a tremendous amount of talent, but they lost that
just freight train offense capability. He's a good player, I
(25:19):
mean real good. And the backup is not that good.
I mean I'm not saying you were dropping down to
a pretty good player. I don't like that guy's very
good at all. He has a lot surrounding him, and
they got through it and they only lost one game.
But if he's anywhere near one hundred percent of himself,
(25:40):
I like Tech to handle things by about, you know,
seven to ten points. I think k State's pretty good,
but I think tex loaded and I think the only
thing that slowed them down was losing Morton, So that
doesn't mean that ky State did pretty good. I think
Texas Tech had something pretty special going and it was
only slowed down by that injury. Plain and simple to.
Speaker 5 (26:01):
Me, Yeah, why wasn't case State better earlier?
Speaker 3 (26:07):
I think there was some philosophical timidity in the part
of Avery Johnson in his camp or the coaches with him.
In my mind, now you've got to forget about, you know,
preservation of your body and everything else. You are a
high paid professional.
Speaker 5 (26:27):
Yeah, it's a good point.
Speaker 3 (26:30):
You're paid to go out there and play. You're not
paid to, you know, impress protect yourself for the NFL.
And also, come on, Avery Johnson's now drop dead cinch
to be an NFL player.
Speaker 5 (26:43):
I think Avery Johnson should be planning to buy boots
and coats because his the league.
Speaker 3 (26:48):
He'll play in the CFL, right, I agree, and maybe
he'll carve out a career as a backup who knows,
you know, a couple of case state.
Speaker 5 (26:57):
He's got another year to really take a step forward.
But he hasn't really taking the step forward until that
game against Kansas that that looked a little bit more like.
Speaker 3 (27:05):
Okay, right, and he can you can see at his best,
I mean, he can really spin it. That touchdown throw
was a dart. Well, that's what he has. He has
the dart. He doesn't have the touch throws. No, he
does not.
Speaker 5 (27:17):
And you know, you kind of thought after the Manning
I thought, Okay, the Manning passing camp, that's what That's
what those guys are gonna He's gonna come away and
we're going to see some more of those throes. And
we really haven't seen it. He still looks like a
guy who's trying to throw it through a wall.
Speaker 3 (27:29):
Right, he does. I don't think he's a I think
he's a great athlete and not an instinctive quarterback at
this point still, And I don't know if well, yeah,
I don't know if you. I don't know if you
usually already have that a little bit of that. Well,
by the definition of the phrase, you are either an
instinctive quarterback or you're not, and you can develop some skills.
(27:53):
But I don't think he has that because I think
he'd played football at one hundred miles an hour his
whole time, because he can go one hundred miles an hour,
and he leaned on that. You know, when you're the
best athlete on the field every game until you get
to college, you're probably going to get that mindset.
Speaker 4 (28:12):
So you've got Tech winning this one.
Speaker 5 (28:14):
What do you have case State doing at Oklahoma State
at Utah home for Colorado?
Speaker 3 (28:19):
I think at Utah is a tough pull. I think
they are back to being a good team. So two
and one, I'll have him too.
Speaker 5 (28:25):
And one, so that'd be so six and six.
Speaker 3 (28:27):
Yeah, I'm not saying that. I think they have a
better chance frankly at Utah than they do tomorrow. I'm
not saying they have no chance. I said seven to ten.
I mean the line seven turnover. Maybe Morton isn't one
hundred percent. He's rusty, I think, and in this game,
Avery Johnson again will be under you know, under the gun.
(28:50):
They rush the passer tremendously. Well, now, what will they
be undisciplined? And he'll run for you know, he'll have
three thirty yard scrambles. That's possible.
Speaker 5 (28:58):
So the jay Arks are going to beat Oklahoma State.
How do they finish at Arizona, at Iowa State Utah?
Speaker 3 (29:06):
I'm surprised if they want any of those.
Speaker 5 (29:09):
They've had Iowa State's number.
Speaker 3 (29:11):
They have, but in Iowa State just maybe.
Speaker 5 (29:14):
And I'm not done a preson with Arizona.
Speaker 3 (29:18):
I don't think they're great, But like I said, I
don't think Kansas is great, so I think they've got
I don't like their chances at Utah. What's the one
other we aren't mentioning it.
Speaker 5 (29:29):
They Oklahoma State at Arizona, at Iowa State Utah.
Speaker 3 (29:34):
No chance on Utah. And I don't like Iowa State
on the road and Iowa State. I think they may
have their dabber down a little bit.
Speaker 9 (29:41):
I think they are.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
Probably feel like, wow, we were supposed to be a
playoff team this year and it's not gone that way.
But maybe they'll be in reset their sites and it'll
be a home game and let's kick somebody all over
the field. So like I said, I think if Jalen
Danil has to play heroic football for them, to be good.
Speaker 5 (30:02):
Then who's the conference championship game? Sounds like you've got
Tech winning out and Tech still has I think Utah,
don't they Tech? No? Tech has at k State, BYU's
who they have? BYU, Central Florida at West Virginia. Who
do you have playing for the championship game?
Speaker 9 (30:20):
BYU and Tech?
Speaker 4 (30:23):
No Houston, you know I have.
Speaker 3 (30:26):
I really haven't said most people are impressed with Houston.
I just haven't seen him play enough to make a judgment.
Speaker 5 (30:31):
Here's the thing Houston has going for him is West
Virginia at Central Florida, TCU. I mean, TCU is good,
but you know that's at home and then at Baylor.
They have by far the best schedule to get there.
Speaker 3 (30:47):
It's tough because nobody's great, No.
Speaker 5 (30:49):
Utah, BYU or Tech. For them, they've already lost to Tech.
That's their one loss, by the way, and it was
significant thirty five eleven.
Speaker 3 (30:57):
You know, in Cincinnati's viable and definitely in the mix.
I mean, but I'll go with BYU and Tech.
Speaker 5 (31:04):
Cincinnati has at Utah, Arizona BYU and at TCU.
Speaker 3 (31:10):
That's pretty tough.
Speaker 5 (31:11):
That is pretty tough. It's pretty tough.
Speaker 3 (31:13):
But they got no losses, so but there's no I mean,
attack at full speed is the best team I think.
Speaker 5 (31:19):
Okay, the Missouri Tigers are what with a backup quarterback.
Speaker 3 (31:25):
Now, I don't think that hurts them that badly. I
don't know what curtis what you think, but Prubula had
flattened out. He wasn't doing anything in that game, and
he wasn't really very good against Alabama. Either it doesn't do.
Speaker 5 (31:37):
Anything as in the sense that like they're just okay
either way, or it doesn't do anything because this guy's
good and gonna make plays and that ten wins should
still be the bar.
Speaker 3 (31:46):
I think Zalors look pretty good. I only have that
to base it on. But he doesn't have the running
quite the running threat. But I think they can. He
looked he looked good to me. Now maybe it was
just the syndrome where you go in there you don't
know what going on.
Speaker 9 (32:01):
You just tryumph them.
Speaker 3 (32:03):
You just just play ball and we'll see. I mean,
it's a it's a huge it's a season defining game.
It sounded it's very simplistic to say it. Of course
it is against A and M because I think you
could really, you know, stumble to the finish and be
disappointed completely.
Speaker 9 (32:23):
A and M.
Speaker 3 (32:23):
This year is defying what they've been in the past,
which is a team that always runs their way up
into the top ten with their talent and then loses
every gate big game they play. They're the sec Penn State,
but they haven't. They haven't done that this year. I
keep waiting for it. But it's a new regime, a
new coach, new era. So maybe they are the real
(32:45):
deal because they've always had great talent, and they have
a fantastic home advantage, and with all their dopey traditions.
Tin soldier, bull feather you have feathers? Sorry, Citadel? What's
the other one? There's three of them, Texas, A and M,
(33:06):
Citadel and one other v M. I all those phony
blooney soldiers, come on. It's like, I don't even get it.
It's like stress up and play soldier. Come on, I
don't even think. I don't want.
Speaker 11 (33:25):
Away on this one. Think they're not even out of
a west Point grad No, No, west Point is legit.
You know that's what That's what I'm asking of. You
think it's crap, I get it. Yeah, you think it's
I mean.
Speaker 3 (33:39):
It's dumb. But anyway, I like some of their other traditions,
you know, but they create bad maget.
Speaker 5 (33:46):
And their overalls on and going out and kissing, talking
smack on the other team, well, they build a log a.
Speaker 6 (33:53):
Pile of logs midnight and midnight yell and the push
ups and everything, which creates bad math on shows like
College Game Day because they'll sit there and go, well,
I wonder how many push ups they're going to have
to do down at Texas A and M today, and
then they go, oh, I don't know, I kind of
like maybe forty five, and I like no, because the
second time they got to do fourteen, it's like more
(34:16):
like two hundred.
Speaker 3 (34:19):
Sorry anyway, So that's it's a I right now, I'd
have to go with eminem is eminem eminem is real Halloween.
They can really do a good job and wrap it up.
Speaker 5 (34:36):
In your mouth, not your hands.
Speaker 8 (34:37):
True.
Speaker 3 (34:38):
I think does look like they're the real deal. So
I think it's going to be a tough pull there.
But they you know, they've got their annual win against
Darkansas and they'll still have a good year. But that's
that's their playoff game right there, and it's at home
and Miszoo has played mini a game like this against
everybody but Alabama basically, and they just they want.
Speaker 5 (34:59):
To have not one one. That was one of the
things that was I did not realize and we I
don't think you realized either, no idea. We were looking
at all the hatred of the idea of Eli getting
the Florida job and all the Florida fans and I said, yeah,
I said, Curtis, is this right that one of these
guys said, Eli drink Whiz has never beaten an SEC
(35:20):
team with a winning record.
Speaker 8 (35:21):
To finish the season with their winning record in conference.
And we looked it up, the fact twelve.
Speaker 3 (35:28):
But you've been close. They meet and you know, obviously
A and M's better, but a lot of times it's
South Carolina's come in and take care of business and
you know, or maybe played. Maybe what's in our mind is.
Speaker 6 (35:41):
That they've they've played them close, played good game in
the field with Georgia for three.
Speaker 5 (35:46):
We give him out of boy credits for being close,
but they he hasn't put one in the win column yet.
Speaker 8 (35:51):
Which Gary Binkle did eventually, and he hasn't yet.
Speaker 9 (35:53):
Not real often, but that's true.
Speaker 3 (35:55):
But if I I don't know what these people want now,
but that's a that's a good home for Eli Drinkwitz.
Speaker 4 (36:04):
Oh, I agree.
Speaker 3 (36:05):
I think he should stay, and I think.
Speaker 4 (36:07):
Eventually he'll he'll have those wins.
Speaker 5 (36:09):
They will come. He's not gonna have a winning record
against him, I don't think.
Speaker 9 (36:13):
I think.
Speaker 5 (36:14):
I think Miszoo is kind of getting to the top
of what they can be. Unless I'm wrong, and and
I'll be I'll be thrilled to say, Damn, I was wrong.
Look at this, Missouri is the SEC champion. Missouri is
the two seed in the playoffs. I don't think that's happened.
I see Missouri as the eleven seed. You know.
Speaker 4 (36:30):
I think they'll get to it.
Speaker 3 (36:31):
If they stick with the I think they'll get to
the playoffs.
Speaker 5 (36:34):
They'll get to the playoff at some point, and he'll
I think he'll he's It was a lot easier when
you had when you and I think all these conferences
are making a mistake by not having divisions.
Speaker 3 (36:44):
I agree with that one hundred because.
Speaker 5 (36:46):
You could get a year where you kind of backass
into a divisional championship game and you knowing the two
times Missouri played for the conference championship in the SEC.
Were they really the second best team?
Speaker 8 (36:58):
No, No, they got they got their doors off once and.
Speaker 5 (37:01):
Well and it was just over on the same side,
was you know a Auburn down Auburn in Alabama and
down Georgiana Oklahoma. Guys. I mean, so look it, I
think that's that's a bad idea. But that's so it's
going to be hard for them to play for a
conference champiage.
Speaker 4 (37:16):
Hell, that's harder. As we know, you got to finish
top two in the SEC. You finish fourth in the SEC, you're.
Speaker 5 (37:22):
Probably going to the playoffs with with twelve teams, right,
and so you know, I think he'll get to the playoffs.
I don't know if he'll ever play in a conference
championship game.
Speaker 8 (37:30):
But my thought on on the quarterback is that I
think he will make some throws that maybe Pribuila was
unwilling to. But I think he'll also make some mistakes.
I think he's gonna there's a little bitun slinger. He'll
make some play and I think, but I think he'll
also maybe throw a couple of bad balls. The interesting
thing is that nobody has a book on him yet.
Speaker 3 (37:52):
Right because we don't know he may be risk averse yeah,
and still throw a good ball as there.
Speaker 4 (37:58):
I don't think he's risk averse off what I saw.
Speaker 3 (38:00):
As opposing I mean in a good way.
Speaker 8 (38:03):
I see you're saying, as opposing defense's defensive coordinators get
more of film on him, they'll figure out what he
can and can't be run to that point, but I'm
saying two or three weeks, like the there'll be another
game this week. People can look at right other thank that.
Speaker 3 (38:16):
I'm just saying that they're running out of games.
Speaker 4 (38:19):
Sure, yeah, but ou is going to have two games
to look at them.
Speaker 5 (38:22):
I mean that is a difference than a half.
Speaker 8 (38:24):
The hope would be that by that time, as that happens,
they'll give him more things to do that will continue
to be new, and they'll stay.
Speaker 9 (38:30):
Ahead of that.
Speaker 3 (38:31):
They got to run the ball. They ran the ball
against substandard opposition, and they have not done so.
Speaker 8 (38:36):
Made the first team that said you're not going to
run and they shut him down.
Speaker 4 (38:39):
How it ran a little bit better? Like how long
was the last pass?
Speaker 9 (38:44):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (38:45):
Forty odd yards something like that.
Speaker 9 (38:47):
Yeah, they were just.
Speaker 5 (38:48):
Because I do think he is benefiting from that, like
on his stats, because like if he's fourteen to twenty
two for ninety something.
Speaker 4 (38:55):
Yeah, it looks different than the one thirty eight.
Speaker 9 (38:57):
Yes, so it does.
Speaker 5 (38:59):
Yeah, that's part of it, all right, Chiefs Bills. We

I know you told me I had to be reminded.
I actually got to figure out how I want to
wait till it's dark and just drive by. I don't
(40:34):
even know how to turn them on.
Speaker 3 (40:36):
I'm sure those instructions will be given to Okay.
Speaker 5 (40:39):
I'm hopefully the missus handled that business. Otherwise it might
be Hey, guys, can you swing back by so we'll
get to the bottom of that. You know, Danny, Chiefs bills,
what are your expectations?
Speaker 3 (40:54):
I think the bills are gonna win, well, really I do.
I think it means it should mean as fast to
the Chiefs. I think that with James Cook going well,
It creates a real conundrum because Steve Spagnola is excellent
at taking away the lead back. He's always been good
(41:16):
at that. But in this case, if he tries, if
he does what he usually does, which is take that away,
Josh Allen just pull it and go. So I think
the key to the game is whether Josh Allen sounds
dumb simplest kills you because you're really at the outset
or whatever. You're saying, Well, we can't let Cook kill us.
(41:39):
We can't let him run for one fifty year. And
you know, he had two sixteen last week. So and
I think they realize that this is a chance to
not kill off the Chiefs, but put them in harm's
way as far as their season is concerned, and you know,
maybe eliminate them from the possibility of a number one seed.
(41:59):
Maybe thinking that this is our chance to have at
least a better record than them. So if we play them,
they're going to be here. I think the Chiefs are
the better team, but because it's in Buffalo, because Josh Allen,
I think we'll have a Superman type effort. I'm going
to lean to the Bills. In a pretty high scoring
(42:19):
game like thirty to twenty six.
Speaker 4 (42:23):
Chiefs are the number two points allowed defense in football.
Speaker 3 (42:25):
I know they do.
Speaker 5 (42:26):
You don't see him. You got Buffalo going for thirty
on them.
Speaker 3 (42:30):
I do, I do. I think they are going to
be able to run the football. But if it's early
on and they're Chiefs are stuff in the run, they're
going to win. I don't think Josh Allen. He's great,
but I don't think he can with the weapons he
has around. I don't think he just throw them to
a victory. So I agree that if the Chiefs get
(42:52):
the job done against this defense, the Chiefs get the
job done against the run, then I'll be sitting there going, well,
you were a fool, and it might happen. I might
be saying I'm a fool pretty fast.
Speaker 8 (43:03):
Mike Panell rescue.
Speaker 5 (43:04):
I think if that's what you forgot, Mike Panell walked
through that.
Speaker 3 (43:08):
Door, Well.
Speaker 6 (43:12):
He's a he's an odd, amazing story. You can't play
for anybody else. But the Chiefs like like like they
cut his hair of he was Sampson Samson.
Speaker 9 (43:24):
You know today he asked.
Speaker 8 (43:26):
Them to bingals to release him.
Speaker 6 (43:29):
Well, well, I think mis Jones beckon, Yes, yes, yes,
that's what happened there.
Speaker 9 (43:36):
And then a risk. He's like, yeah, but.
Speaker 3 (43:38):
If he's reckoned things, chiefs will win.
Speaker 4 (43:40):
All Right, Danny, we appreciate it. To talk to you
next week.
Speaker 3 (43:42):
All right, it sounds good.
