Speaker 1 (00:04):
Welcome to the Danny Clinkscale Reasonably irreverent podcast, insightful and
witty commentary, probing interviews and detours from the beaten path.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Welcome to Monday Musing's Christmas vacation style. I am on
the road, so that creates a dynamic where I sit
in my condominium in Hilton Head, South Carolina and talk
to you about all things. Normally this would be Danny
and Stan's football weekend, but we'll do a little bit
more than football and get back to stand next week.
Probably better for him not to try and diagnose that

(00:36):
Chief's debacle yesterday. As we all know now if we
didn't know before, how important Patrick Mahomes is. That the
Chiefs looked absolutely hideous in losing to one of the
worst teams in the league. And it wasn't even close
twenty six to nine. I guess you can toss it
aside a big letdown after the Chiefs missed the playoffs,
so on and so forth. But they played their guys,

(00:57):
they didn't play young guys that didn't make much sense,
and they still get clobbered. So talk about that a
little bit. What it means for the future, what it
means for the roster, what it means about the hierarchy
of the Chiefs and more. And we'll also talk about
the college football playoffs. We had two blowouts, one real
grinder and one exciting football game where Oklahoma had a

(01:18):
big lead and spit it up. Now Alabama moves on.
Got some college hoops tonight as Kansas State won their
game on Saturday, one of those walkover type games against
one of the worst teams in the country. They needed it,
though they have been playing goodball at all. Missouri is
hard to read. Both of the times they've played somebody
who was pretty good on the road or on a
neutral site, they get beat pretty bad. And now tonight

(01:43):
they will play the aligne I in the Bragg and
Rights game. Illinois about a nine point favorite, so this
would be one where if Missouri were to get it,
they probably look like a lot different team than maybe
we think they are. So Hello from Hilton Head, and
it's time to talk to you about all things, all things,

(02:03):
starting off with the Kansas City Chiefs next on Monday.
Using's Christmas Vacation Style brought to you by Advanced Sports
and Family Chiropractic and Acupuncture. Eight locations all around the
Kansas City area for you to feel better body, mind,
and spirit.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
Let's roll more of Danny's Reasonably Irreverend podcast after this.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
We're here with doctor Brad Woodell from Advanced Sports and
Family Chiropractic and Acupuncture. And one thing we like to
talk about is the wide range of services that can
help you out mentally and physically.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
We offer many services from chiropractic, acupuncture, nutritional work, and rehabilitation,
and we take care of patients of all ages from
young to old and customize the care to help them
stay well and stay active.

Speaker 4 (02:46):
What are some of the things that you can do
to help that.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
The first thing we're going to do is we're going
to look at prevention. How do we keep you moving
and aligned? Ideally, just like your car, that expensive car
is going to have your top already in maintenance. You
want to keep it in good shape. This body of yours,
it is worth a lot.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Advanced Sports and Family Chiropractic and Acupuncture eight locations all
around the Kansas City area, so you can find one
near you to do all the things that doctor Woodheld
has just stressed, it's ASFCA have.

Speaker 5 (03:17):
Your investment statements had a lot of peaks and valleys
over the years. The peaks are great and even the
valleys can provide opportunities for you as an investor. However,
the closer we get to retirement, the more challenging these
market swings can become. This is Zach Ridemeier. I would
like to get to know you and your goals for
the future. I offer financial planning services across the United States,

(03:38):
focusing mainly on Kansas and the Missouri area. I look
forward to meeting with you face to face with the
highs and lows throughout the financial landscape. My goal is
to make sure you feel protected once you've set your
retirement date. Growing up in a tight knit community, I
understand the importance of knowing you can rely on someone
to have your back. I'm always a phone call away
to talk with you about your investments. Make you feel

(04:01):
you're getting the most out of your retirement. Give me
a call today at Strategic Partners, Incorporated. Ask for Zach
Ridemeier at eight hundred four to two one six two
two seven. That's eight hundred four to two one six
two two seven.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Securities and advisory services offered through LPL Financial, a registered
Investment advisor member Finra SIPC. We here with Matt Lewellen
from the twenty third Street Brewery Hence Brewery. So beer
is important and you've got great ones, Yes, we do.

Speaker 6 (04:33):
And we've got a great brewer, Angelo Luis has been
here for three years now and just Bruce great great beer,
always something new on tap. It's hard to say what
our best beers are because he always has a new
beer coming out for the season. I was asked earlier
today what we have coming up next, and I'm like,
I don't know. Ask Angelo. Come inside the restaurant. Talk

(04:54):
to Angelo, our brewer. He'll tell you everything, but he
might say he doesn't know either. No matter what it is.
It's a great beer though, and Angelo Bruce all kinds
of great beer, great beers, great food, great fun at
the twenty third Street Brewery, twenty third End Castle.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
If you'd like to join these and other great sponsors
and market your business to a growing and engaged audience,
contact us at Danny Clinkscale dot com. Look forward to
hearing from you.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
Yes, indeed, for the first time in my life, I
am going to go on vacation during Christmas. Now I've
certainly been away for Christmas per se, But that only
meant that I was coming home from college and going
to my parents' house, or coming from the Midwest and
going to my parents' house, or going from the Midwest
and going to my sister's house. But besides that, never

(05:41):
traveling during Christmas. We won or bid, had the winning
bid on an auction earlier this year and got this condominium.
I'm sitting here in Hilton Head but with the winning bid,
and we extended that with a trip to Savannah before
this and stayed in a nice airbn B, and that
was courtesy of some friends as well. So the holiday

(06:02):
spirit helped out in many ways. And Savannah, someplace I'd
never been, was a beautiful city that I can highly recommend.
Lots of history, unique city from the standpoint it was
the first pre planned city in America back in the
seventeen hundreds, and its features numerous, and they're all over
the place, sort of neighborhood squares, and they look like

(06:25):
beautiful parks in a square setting trees, monuments, all those
type of things and really beautiful. And then the trees
with Spanish moss hanging off them create a completely unique vibe.
Fantastic food, great history, We went to the longest running
Jewish congregation in their synagogue, which is one of the
oldest in the country. It looks like a cathedral, not

(06:48):
a synagogue, and that was absolutely spectacular. And we went
to the house that was the staging of the film,
the Clint Eastwood produced film Midnight in the Garden of
Good and Evil, and that's a cool story also, So
lots of things to do, all kinds of houses that
are museums that are open to the public. Highly recommend, Savannah.

(07:10):
Highly don't recommend the fact that people had to watch
the Chiefs game yesterday. Now, luckily I am on vacation,
so I didn't really consume it that much. Got the highlights,
listen to some on the radio, all those kind of
different things, and that was better looking on my phone
listening to a neutral broadcast.

Speaker 4 (07:31):
Whatever. It was an absolute mess.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
And as I said earlier, I guess you can just
explain away the game in a hideous twenty six to
nine result, getting out gained three hundred and seventy six
to one hundred thirty three, making the thirty first ranked
quarterback in the league, cam Ward look like a great
player and really never being part of the game. Okay, Yes,
bad luck again Gardner Minshew apparently towards ACL and he'll

(07:58):
have surgery and that's a bad break. But they didn't
look very good when he was in there and presumably
healthy for a little while. I think he got hurt
and then stayed in. But then Chris Oladucan came in
and he was okay for a debut, getting considerable playing
time in a real game. I mean, he didn't look horrendous,
but still he didn't do much. Ten of sixteen for

(08:19):
one point fifteen. They couldn't run the ball, they couldn't
get out of the end zone and gave up a safety.
The game was three to two at one point in
the second quarter.

Speaker 4 (08:28):
Just pitiful.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
And if you wanted to make some grand assumptions about
this game and its meaning, you could do that. I
don't think I'm going to do it for one game.
I might do it after the three games that play out.
The Chiefs play like this in all three remaining games,
and I'm going to probably have something to say about
the roster construction. If this team's that's bad without Patrick Mahomes,

(08:52):
then they're just bad, and Patrick Mahomes is propping them up.
I don't think that's the case. They have a lot
of injuries, certainly, but I'm going to let that sit
for a little while. But certainly this effort was ludicrous
and some of the decisions made, not playing three or
four of the younger players who haven't seen much playing

(09:12):
time and didn't basically see any during the course of
this game, and playing guys like and Pacheco, who I
don't think as much of a future with the Chiefs
and maybe they just want to see one more time
that he's not that great. It's okay in the game
average four yards of carry, but there was no carry
longer than eight yards in the rushing game. The passing
game was virtually non existent. But I would say the

(09:34):
defense is the worst part. They don't have extensive injuries
and defense and mcduffee's out, but Chris Jones is out there,
Nick Bolton's out there. He had his first career sack,
and so it's inexcusable to give up almost four hundred
yards to this team. But as I said, this is
one game, maybe the letdown. Maybe they'll get fired up

(09:55):
for a Christmas game against Denver to try and play spoilers.
It's the Broncos come to town on Christmas. I can't
imagine that stadium is going to be anywhere near full.
Find your most rabid fan who is never if you've
got tickets, find your most rabbit fan who's never been
to Arrowhead and is dying to go there, and give
them to them. Put them in the Christmas stocking, don't charge,

(10:17):
put it in the Christmas spirit, and we'll see if
the Chiefs come up with a better effort. Because that
was just I mean, there's no other way to cut
it up. I mean, in the star Vai Gregorian, I
thought he said, hey, hey, you can explain this, but
it's still onerous, and I agree, and this just bad
all around. I don't think I need in the Christmas season.

(10:38):
I don't need to be going on and on much
more about that. Around the rest of the NFL. Are
the Seahawks the best team in the NFC after they
beat the Rams, Certainly they're the number one seed. The
playoffs are almost completely set. There's a few scenarios that
can play out, but in the NFC you've got basically
six of the seven spots locked up, five officially, and

(11:03):
the Packers are almost in in the AFC pretty much
the same thing. All of the teams that now are
in playoff position have at least a ninety two percent
chance according to espno making the playoffs. Get scenarios like
if the Ravens win their last two and the Steelers
lose their last two, that changes things there. But those
are the types of things that is going to have
to happen. The Colts have they're playing tonight, they get

(11:25):
about a six percent chance of making the playoffs. They
need a variety of things to happen. So the playoffs
is shaping up. I think it'll probably be exciting. It'll
be interesting. I think for Chiefs fans to either throw
up their hands and say I don't have to watch
anymore football, or just look at these games without the
prism of, well, who might be play what would be

(11:48):
best scenario for the Chiefs. That's one thing that's weird
for Chiefs fans these last three weeks because when you
see teams play like the Bills yesterday, they're in a
close game, well, ordinarily Chiefs fans will be all fired
up for the Bills to lose because it might mean
being able to get a home game instead of a
road game. Or Buffalo might miss the playoffs or whatever.
Same thing with the Broncos. You hate the Broncos. You

(12:10):
want them to lose, but you want them to lose
for tangible reasons. Now that's just not the case. It
doesn't matter. The Chiefs are out with three games to go,
so bad scenarios all over the place as far as
Chiefs fans are concerned. But still interesting football to be played.
I consumed a lot of football in a variety of
different ways while traveling around yesterday.

Speaker 4 (12:30):
My wife wasn't feeling very good, so I had to
go fetch food for her.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
I went out to a local sports bar, which was
very nice, and watched some Lions fans get a bitter
defeat at the end of their game. So it was
an interesting day of NFL football, But that did not
include the Kansas City Chiefs. Let's talk a little bit
about college basketball and the other college football as well.
Coming up next, it's our Monday Musings, Christmas vacation style.

Speaker 4 (12:57):
Yeah, I'll work for you.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
This is how much I can care about my listeners
here on this vacation. I'll still produce a little content.
Talk to you a little bit at Christmas time and
hope this week is going to be fantastic for you
as a run up to a merry Christmas for you,
probably much different than mine, with family and friends all around.
We'll be going out to dinner and seeing a bunch

(13:20):
of strangers on Christmas. But it's a beautiful place down here.
The weather's nice, but don't be too envious. The weather
here today is almost exactly the way the weather you
have in Kansas City today, although it's going to warm
up here to about seventy the rest of the week.
Might play golf, might not. I brought a wet suit,
might body serf, but it doesn't look like there's any surf.
We'll see more coming up next, It's Monday Musing's Christmas

After this, we're here with doctor Brad Woodell from Advanced
Sports and Family Chiropractic and Acupuncture. And one thing I
noticed when I come here is just about once a month,
there's this special day for the little ones.

We have a Kid's Day the first Friday of every
single month, and we dedicate our clinic to feeling comfortable
for them. Movies, music, fun, gift bags, healthy treats, and
we want kids to learn about chiropractic and how to
stay well at an early age.

Speaker 4 (14:17):
It's part of their lifelong process of staying fit right.

Speaker 3 (14:21):
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,
and when you learn about chiropractic at a young age,
you understand these healthy choices are worth it and they
just love it.

Welcome back for first round CFP playoff spots are Our

(16:44):
playoff games are in the books, and we didn't get
incredible excitement because one of the close games was kind
of an old fashioned slugfest as Texas A and m
fell to Miami. The other game was exciting. It was
the exciting game of the weekend. Looked like Oklahoma might
just at home somehow walk over Alabama seventeen to nothing,

(17:06):
and then it all fell apart and after that it
was pretty much all Alabama. They end up with a
ten point win. So it was still an interesting game
most of the way, but bitterly disappointing for the Sooners,
no doubt, especially from a defensive standpoint, where after a
good start they really couldn't stop Alabama. So they move
on and we've got some interesting quarterfinals so far. We

(17:28):
did get our first two road wins, but what we've
seen so far is that the group of five teams
have not fared very well so far in the first
couple of years of the CFP. No cinderella upsets, no
real cinderella games that have been exciting. But it leaves
us with quarterfinals that are intriguing. Number one Indiana against

(17:49):
number nine Alabama, Number three Georgia against number six Old Miss,
and an SEC rematch and showdown Number ten Miami, whose
defense and running game looked good.

Speaker 4 (18:00):
I don't know if they're ready for number two Ohio State.

Speaker 2 (18:03):
And to me, the game that I'm probably looking forward
to the most is number five Oregon and number four
Texas Tech. That looks like a pretty exciting matchup on
New Year's Eve, one of the games and the other
three in a tripleheader on New Year's Day. Old timey
college football there and one of the fallouts of the
first round is going to be Kansas State fans have

(18:23):
got to be a sort of scratching their heads a
little bit.

Speaker 4 (18:26):
Colin klines.

Speaker 2 (18:27):
Texas A and m offense produced all of three points
after getting seventeen the previous game. That doesn't look very good,
but I know everybody's still excited. And a three point
outing by a team that he now formally coached probably
doesn't worry them that much, but that's certainly the case.
Is Colin Klin's adding several Texas A and M assistants

(18:48):
to the mix at Kansas State. So playoff football to
break down next Monday with stan As.

Speaker 4 (18:54):
That should be very exciting.

Speaker 2 (18:55):
That's a nice lineup of quarterfinal games in the CFP
College Basketball tonight before they fellas all get to go
home for a few days for Christmas. Kansas hosts Davidson.
Davidson's pretty good team. I mean they're about say, the
thirtieth percentile this three hundred and sixty five teams, and

(19:15):
their Ken Palm rating is about one hundred and twenty.
They've won eight of their eleven games, but probably more
just a tune up game. Still no real certainty as
to whether Darren Peterson is going to play. Kansas is
an eighteen point favorite. They should win easily with or
without him, But there'll be another well it'll.

Speaker 4 (19:35):
Be just a nice probably a Christmas.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
Some Christmas tickets being given to people by their friends
for this one at Allen Fieldhouse.

Speaker 4 (19:43):
Davidson at Kansas.

Speaker 2 (19:45):
The more intriguing game by far as the Bragg and
Rights game, it's always a fun game. I always look
forward to Miszoo and Illinois and the fifty to fifty
fans split, and Missouri will get to get a real
test and maybe show that they're a little bit better than.

Speaker 4 (20:00):
I think they are.

Speaker 2 (20:00):
Right now, I haven't defended particularly well against quality opposition.

Speaker 4 (20:05):
They've lost the Notre Dame game.

Speaker 2 (20:07):
You probably can say, well, they controlled that game much
of the way, but Kansas certainly kind of ran them
off the floor. So it'll be interesting to watch that
one on a Monday night. One good thing about when
I'm here in Eastern Time is that everything starts late. Now,
in some regards that's no good, but in others it
is because eventually my wife, no matter what we do,

(20:28):
and if I watch a movie with her and everything else,
there's still something hugely on. I mean, a football game
that starts at eight thirty is likely going to go
till midnight, So that's a good thing. In the Missouri
basketball game probably start about eight fifteen here, so I'll
probably catch a goodly chunk of that one too, So
that should be good fun. Not as much good fun

(20:50):
as we have in the sunny by the beach time.
But I wanted to make a little time for you
and have a chance to say Merry Christmas and have
yourself a great Christmas week. And we'll be back next
Monday with Stan to talk a lot about football. But
I thought it would be fun to do this. I
enjoy doing it. Hope you enjoy listening to it. A

(21:11):
rare addition because I just made up a title that
I've never used before, Monday Musings Christmas Vacation Style presented
by ASFCA.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
