Speaker 1 (00:05):
Hello, this is Maus and Gold from Depeche Mode. All right,
this is digone from Depeche Mode and you all listening
to my word Brod. Welcome to it depeche Mode the podcast,
and I'm your host, John Justice. Thank you so much
for checking out another episode this week. As always, if

(00:27):
you want to email talkshow Nerd at gmail dot com,
or if you're enjoying the show up on YouTube and
you can leave a comment there. Got some listener feedback
to dive into a little bit later on in the episode.
Probably going to be a little shorter today, but not
without some exciting news to share with you. So let's

(00:48):
not waste any more time and get to that news.
So last week I had the privilege of being invited
back on the Depeche Mode Global Fan group and their
Drink and Chat presented by Rob Rahm. So Rob ended
up having as his feature guest last week a musician

(01:12):
from the band Mesh. I got that wrong last week,
I said, Muse. I knew, I knew it was something
close to that. Von George, who I had not had
the opportunity to meet and felt so honored to be
able to spend some time talking with him and being
introduced to Von George by Rob Rahm. I've really enjoyed

(01:33):
Von's work on YouTube, his musical breakdowns, and his own
music as well, given the fact that during the drink
and Chat excuse me, he ended up performing several songs,
not covers, but kind of interpretations of Depeche Mode tracks

(01:53):
and truly stunning to watch Von George perform on the
Depeche Global fan group a drink in Chat. There is
a link to waunch last week's show on YouTube. If
you search a Depeche Mode Global fan group, you'll find
it on YouTube. But I did add a link to
the episode notes this week so that you can go

(02:16):
and check it out for yourself. One highlight, by the way,
was one of the first songs he performed, and it
was this interpretation piano keyboard version of Pipeline, and it
gave me goosebumps. As I mentioned during the show, I
never I never could have imagined that all these years

(02:36):
after first hearing that particular song, which was challenging as
a kid getting into Depeche Mode at the time. You know,
Pipeline wasn't a pedestrian accessible track. It taught me to
appreciate art and to expand sort of my you know,
expand what I enjoyed about music, and it challenged me

(02:58):
and a song that I ended up growing to love.
It's not one that I revisited very often. Vaughan George
and his interpretation of that track gave me chills. It
was absolutely spectacular. So he did a lot of tracks
off a Black Celebration, which I know made Rob Rohm
incredibly happy. So go and check that out the Depeche
Mode Global fan group at Drink and Chat. Specifically, what

(03:20):
I wanted to mention though, is that Rob had the opportunity,
as I talked about last week, to speak with Martin
Gore on a couple of different occasions during a pickleball
tournament with Kenny Loggins a couple of weekends back and
on the drink in Chat, revealed what he asked Martin

(03:42):
and Martin's response. So here's just basically a synopsis. You
could hear this in its entirety from Rob himself in
the Depeche Global fan group Drink and Chat. But during
that pickleball tournament in Santa Barbara, Martin said that he
was working on Newman, but he wasn't sure what that
material would be for yet, and so that's encouraging because,

(04:07):
as we've talked about on the show, I think the
decision for Depeche Mode to move forward is really going
to come from from Dave, depending on, you know, whether
or not they want to move forward making new music
and exactly what that will entail. I fantasized a bit
about what those exchanges must be like, like Dave must

(04:28):
be He's obviously become friends with Martin. We know that
dynamic has changed in the wake of the passing of
Fletch and the lead up to the release and completion
of Momento Moury. But you know, Dave has mentioned not
being sure if he wants to do Depeche Mode anymore,
and that he'll hear a track like Ghosts again and
then I'll suck him back in, you know. And if
Martin Gore is writing songs and asked Dave, hey, do

(04:51):
you want to check him out, and days like yeah, okay,
why wouldn't he write after all these years? Of course
he's gonna want to listen to what he has to say.
But even if Dave is reluctant to move forward, I imagine
it must be difficult if Martin has written a beautiful
track and it's just in demo form, and Dave thinking
to himself, well, Martin could go off and do a
solo album and sing these songs and produce them himself.

(05:12):
But I want to go and sing these songs. I mean,
that's how I envision, you know, how Dave could be
inspired to continue to move forward and make more music
with Depeche Mode. And considering that Martin has been writing,
and that we know David Martin are going to be
getting together in about a month's time in a New

(05:34):
York City at the Tribeca Film Festival for the debut
of the film The Depeche Mode Film m you know,
one has to imagine that this will be part of
that particular conversation. So I thought that was exciting news. Also,
Rob had asked about the possibility of Depeche Mode doing
a residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas, and while

(05:54):
Martin didn't really give an answer, Martin's wife was there
and kind of laughed. The way Rob told the story,
at least my impression was this kind of oh wow,
like this guy keyed in on something like you know,
this guy's in the no kind of laugh like Oh,
isn't that interesting, Like we were talking about that or

(06:15):
maybe that's being worked on, and Martin has to stay silent,
and his wife was kind of laughing like, you know, ah, well,
you know, he can't say anything, can we. So again,
that's rampant speculation, but I'm just sort of relaying what
you can hear on the drink and chat. And then lastly,
he asked him about the release of the new film

(06:36):
m and Martin had alluded to that it would be
released wide later this year in November, which would contradict
what I had sort of anticipated, and that would be
that the film would come out shortly after its premiere
in New York City. Now that being said, I have
talked to Rob. He is going to the Tribeca Film

(06:58):
Festival to see the film be shown at multiple different
times in New York that week, and we will be
having Rob on the show once he returns so that
he can get his full review of the film, which
I'm very much looking forward to. So either way, listen,
it's still exciting news. We've got a new depeche Mo
movie coming out. As I've said, those four unreleased Momento

(07:21):
Moriy tracks should be attached to that film, the possibility
of a physical live release of the entirety of the
Momento Moury Show, and some talk that there could even
be a live album as well. So even the possibility
of Depeche Mode creating new music in the future is exciting.
The fact that we know there are songs that were
produced that we're still going to be able to hear

(07:44):
before the end of the year is exciting as well,
So more than I can certainly ask for as this
lifelong Depeche Mode fan. All Right, I just have a
couple of emails to get to this week, and first off,
I have to say my apologies to friend of the

(08:05):
show Jason. I missed his dream set list, So let's
go ahead and get to that right now. Jason says this,
I hope and David Martin get together in New York.
It's for more than just a screening of him. If
they don't use the opportunity to work on some new tracks,
maybe even shoot a video for one of the four
unreleased tracks if the releases in the cards. My fantasy

(08:30):
set list isn't too far removed from the list I
put together for the Momento Morey Tour. I did leave
set list. Regulars on the list enjoyed the silence personal
Jesus for some audience participation. Now, before I break down
Jason's list, I want to add in here that there

(08:51):
was some interesting videos floating around showing the behind the
scenes of the making of the movie. And I think
I may have mentioned last week that I'm not one
hundred percent sure whether or not that was done by
a fan behind the scenes who happened to be at
those shows, or if that was actually from one of

(09:12):
the crew working on the film. But there is a
video floating around that shows drones taking off the number
of cameras in daylight that were used to go and
shoot the film, and Jason mentions that briefly in his email. Well,
let's go ahead and get to his fantasy track listing,
which I quite enjoy. So we kick off with Ghost

(09:32):
and My Joy So much Love for My Joy, World
in my Eyes into Corrupt. Here is the House Puppets.
You Move. You're not the only one that likes you move.
That's not a song that grabs me. But not the
first time that I've heard people saying that's one of
their famit. Jason's not saying this, but that you move
as one of their favorite tracks off of Spirit, Lie

(09:54):
to Me, Don't Say You Love Me Nice, and then
we get Martin's portion of the show with Precious a
Martin acoustic version and Soul with Me Martin, but the
album version going into nothing the head cleaner rock mix.
Just to see them fully rock out, dangerous people are good, sacred,

(10:15):
enjoy the silence no more. This is the last time
interesting Spirit got some love on his playlist, and then
for the encore get Right with Me Nice before we
drown some in the Rainfall, and then for encore two,
Love in Itself with Martin Gore and Personal Jesus. So

(10:35):
there you go. I wanted to make sure I got
that in. I don't know how Jason's got lost in
the mix of when I was doing the dream set list,
but he's been a longtime fan of the show, and
I wanted to make sure I gave him some pop,
some appropriate do all right Tool forty eight. Going back
to last week's episode and a suggestion by Lewis, he

(10:57):
talks about laughing at that suggestion. So many good emails
from the DM swarm, so difficult to not give honorable
b side mentions to my joy could you imagine it live?
And I think what he was referring to was the
inclusion of hold to Feet on the setlist. That's my
guess that one stuck out like a sore thumb. But yes,
my joy does not get enough love, and if ever

(11:19):
given the opportunity, I would be more than happy to
go and share that with Martin or Dave. All right,
let's see one more here. I'm saving the B side
conversation for another episode. But Glenn nineteen sixty five said this,

(11:39):
It's been so interesting to hear the other devotees dream
set list. I had no idea how hard it would
be to select so few from such an expansive catalog.
I have to say I gave up. My table is
still covered with the fifty on the short list. Looking
forward to the next topic. My B side of choice
is Dangerous, hands down the B side that should have

(12:01):
been on Violator as well. So we are going to
get to the B list conversation coming up on next
week's episode. So if you want to get your favorite
B lists in, you can email me talkshow Nerd at
gmail dot com or leave a comment up on YouTube. Listen.
As I mentioned short episode, this week. I've had a

(12:24):
really busy week, so I need to give myself a
bit of a break. But don't worry, we'll have a
more comprehensive episode for next week here on depeche Mode
the podcast. As always, I hope you'll support the podcast,
and if you haven't done so already, check out my
