Speaker 1 (00:05):
Hello, This is Martin Gold.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
From Depeche Mode.
Speaker 1 (00:08):
Alright, this is diagone from Depeche Mode and you are
listening to my word broad.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Welcome to it, depeche Mode, It's the podcast.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
I'm your host, John Justice, and welcome to the only.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Weekly show devoted to the greatest band on the face
of the planet. How has your week been, devotees? Thank
you so much for checking out another episode as always
talkshow Nerd at gmail dot com is the email address
or leave that comment up on YouTube. So how have
(00:52):
you been spending your week listening to Depeche Mode. Inquiring
minds like mine would like to know out myself a
new car.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
Well, it's a used car, but it's new twenty twenty
three Kia.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
Stinger, which I absolutely love. It has not been without
its drama. If you're interested at all, I don't know
why you would be, but if you are, if you're
interested in hearing my tales and lack of nirvana from Carvana,
there is a bonus podcast that I created just to
mark the special occasion and everything that I've been enduring
(01:27):
and purchasing my car. If you're interested in finding that,
If you search for the John Justice show. On whatever
podcast platform you listen to, you'll find my weekly radio
show there, but you'll find a separate podcast where I
put up stuff from my show, but I do other
outside of my show content. I just call it the
(01:48):
John Justice Show podcast that is available up on podcast platforms.
Just search for Bonus content or bonus podcast and did
John get his Stinger?
Speaker 1 (01:58):
And you can see the story there.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
I only bring it up because I haven't come up
with a name for the car yet. My previous car
was a twenty fourteen key of Forte Coop, which I loved,
but my youngest has now inherited, so at least has
stayed in the family. That car was called Junior because
I'm a massive Dale Earnhart Junior fan. The new car,
I haven't come up with a name yet. So far,
I've just been calling a black celebration. It's black, but
(02:23):
it's this color called panthera metal, so it's almost like
a gun metal gray, like if you saw if you
had like candy apple red, but you made it black,
so it doesn't look so it's black, but it looks
cooler than black. So at the moment, I'm just calling
a black celebration until I come up with a with
a better name. So what I've been doing is enjoying
(02:44):
the new sound system in Black Celebration while listening to
an abundance of Depeche Mode music. I was very pleased
that Songs of Faith and Devotion sounds really, really good
in my new car, as does Black Celebration.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
But pretty much that's standard.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
If you can find a sound system that songs of
Faith and Devotion sounds great, and all the other albums
are gonna sound fantastic. That's the one album for me
where the production is lacking most of the time. When
I listen to that album, if I crank it up
and I said this before, the music just ends up
just melding together.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
You need a really.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
Good sound system to capture all of the all of
the cinematic elements of Alan Wilder during his prime. So
how have you been spending your week listening to Depeche Mode.
I'd love to love to know. In terms of news
this week regarding our favorite band, the social media accounts
(03:40):
for Depeche have begun promotion. Not extensive, but something's better
than nothing. They have started to promote m so set
for theaters October twenty eighth. Tickets go on sale in
the seventeenth, so we still got just a couple of
weeks until tickets go on sale, and so the social
(04:02):
media accounts have been posting some screen grabs from the film.
From what I can gather, the photos that they've posted
are some of the oh interstitials, there we go, that's
the word they kept using in the interpretive interstitials. They're
(04:22):
basically TV monitors reminds me a lot of the stripped video,
to be honest with you, but they're TV monitors stacked
on each other that have images from the concert within
them and different other images related to death and Mexico.
I'm pretty sure from what I've seen of the film
so far, I think that these were used in the
opening of the film, just as it got started. There
(04:45):
was a lot of various artistic visuals involved before the
actual concert gets underway in the film, and I think
that's what these stills are from. I think they're from
those artistic elements at the beginning of the film that
the social media accounts have been posting ahead of the
ticket on sale date. But that's all they've done so far.
(05:10):
We'll see if this ramps up further. It is somewhat encouraging.
I know we're two weeks out from ticket sales, but
if they're going to start promoting the ticket sales, then
they need to start letting fans know, hey, these are
going on sales, so you know, a social media post
here or there is great. But I hope we get
something a little bit more extensive, and as I've been predicting,
(05:30):
my expectation is that it's going to be certainly in
the end, the new unreleased a tract from a Mento Mari,
but there's also Loose Cannon Live two point zero and then.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
I always forget the third one. How I want to
something along those lines. I wish forget what the third
song name is.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
My apologies, I don't have my laptop open in front
of yourse I'd go looking for it, and like I
tell you, I always record this for live, so I'm
not going to stop down right now. So that is
my expectation that hopefully we'll get in the end released
digitally to mark the on sale date for Depeche Mode MS.
So we will wait to see if my prediction comes true.
(06:13):
But in terms of news, that's the only thing going
on right now, So let's go ahead and get to
all of your emails listener feedback this week. First off,
Yon writes in says this my journey with Depeche Mode
began in nineteen eighty six, and then parentheses Yay Route
sixty six with the album Black Celebration. I can't name
(06:37):
any track from this album as the groundbreaking song, though
my favorite song from Black Celebration is here is the
House Nice. But my love for the band really took
off when I started discovering their previous albums. It was
not it was a long time ago, but I think
it was Construction Time Again that really hit me. At
(06:59):
that time. I was fascinated by the weird music of
Art of Noise, and Construction Time Again had a similar
experimental vibe Pipeline two minute warning Shame. The true fandom
came with what I consider to be the best songs
in Depeche Mode's history, get the Balance Right and the
Sun and the Rainfall sadly overlooked by the band themselves.
(07:22):
I'm happy to hear them performed live by Force to Mode.
At least, if they are able to play these songs
live and receive positive feedback from the audience, I wonder
what is preventing DM from doing the same. It must
be boring for DM to keep adding unheard of twists
to the same best singles, which ends with fans fans
(07:46):
blaming poor Peter Gordino for messing up DM's music. It's
a pity.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
Never mind.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
I'm looking forward to seeing Force to Mode in Bratslavia
in November.
Speaker 1 (07:57):
I hope they come to the US one day. Two cheers, yawn.
So how do I want to word this interesting observation
that I've had as of late doing my weekly radio show.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
I'm not gonna make this political, just an observation, but
there is there's Well maybe maybe pop culture is a
better way to do it. So in pop culture we
always have head canon, right, you have what you believe
of a particular thing versus what actually gets released.
Speaker 1 (08:29):
Of a particular thing. It happens in politics too.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
You have the media and you have political parties that
have an assumption of a position in power that doesn't
always represent the reality. It's the head canon of what
we believe. There's a lot of that surrounding our current president.
We see a lot of this head canon that brings
about an abundance of criticism unwarranted in a lot of
(08:55):
ways when it comes to fandoms pop culture. Whether it's
Star Wars, of which I just did this week's podcast,
whether it's Marvel, you, Harry Potter, you name it. You
know that we have our versions of the things that
we we love and what we think, you know, is
supposed to happen or should happen. Alien Earth is a
(09:16):
series that I'm watching, and I just now realized that
I said I was gonna talk about it on my
Star Wars podcast.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
And I didn't.
Speaker 2 (09:21):
I'm a huge Alien franchise fan. The show's okay. That
being said, it just doesn't it's not necessarily canon, means
it doesn't necessarily align with the films that came before it,
and I love those films, and so it's kind of
messing with my own head canon.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
I say all of this because.
Speaker 2 (09:42):
I think for a lot of us fans, like we
have a certain way that we think about how we
would craft the playlist and reasons and songs we want
to hear, and I just wonder if David Martin have
any idea that's how the how the fans feel like.
I don't disagree with Yan here at all about the
band not playing some of their classics from years ago.
(10:03):
We've heard them talk about the playlists, the set lists
for the concerts and how difficult it is, given their
expansive playlist that you know they have, choosing those songs.
But I think the band's rationale for choosing the songs
it's much different than what we as fans think their
rationale should be. Honestly, I think for the most part
(10:23):
it comes down to Martin, because I think Dave has
his selection of songs that he loves, and I think
they're probably very different from what we know in the band.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
Had said that, say.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
Martin's are But Martin also isn't very keen on the
band's earlier work prior to Black Celebration, and he said
that multiple times that he really doesn't have any problems
with the albums after Black Celebration.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
Now.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
I would be curious to see what his thoughts are now,
because those comments were made a long time ago before
the various releases as of late, and I know that
Daniel Miller has been critical of Sounds of the Universe,
for example, or that even on the documentary for Exciter,
(11:09):
there was a lot of focus on Martin's writing block
and how it may have affected the album. So I
would just be curious how much the band is actually
of the same mindset as the fans are even aware
of what the majority of fans would love to hear
during a concert. So thank you for that long and
(11:30):
drawn out diatribe. Let's get onto the next email. Well,
here from Stephanie, who writes this, I saw the terrible
news this morning, going back to the tragedy that happened
in Minneapolis last week on German breakfast television, and I
have no words. As a mom, I feel the pain
of the parents and my thoughts are with them and
(11:51):
those affected. As always, Depeche Mode is helping, right Memento
MORI was with me when I had to bury my
beloved grandmother and now my mom two. It's always a
reminder that life is finite and that you really should
make the best of it, just.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
Like Martin said.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
In fact, Violator was the first album and since I
listened to it back on vinyl back then, a world
in my eyes grabbed me. It was and is just
perfect for me. Nevertheless, which diamond is the most beautiful?
Speaker 1 (12:25):
That's it for me.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
All the best from the Baltic Coast, Stephanie. Thank you
as always, Stephanie, appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
Let's see.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
Ethan V eighteen thirty five writes this, talking about favorite
songs and the songs that got you into the band
everything counts. When I was in high school in the nineties,
while everyone was listening to Pearl Jam, I was enjoying
the brilliance of Depeche Mode, Martin al and Fletch.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
Let's see. I'm not even.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
Going to attempt to pronounce this name from a YouTube.
We'll just say the number. So sixteen thirteen writes this,
Oh you know what, I'll try.
Speaker 1 (13:03):
Whoe Jamech Monzawuski. I gave it a shot. They write this,
I started with Violator.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
I'm a big fan since ninety one, now forty five
years old, still a fan. Greetings from Poland to all
the Depeche Mode fans, Thank you very much. Sixteen thirteen
Gentle Caveman writes this their song never Let Me Down Again, Short, simple,
three exclamation.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
Points to the point.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
Uni nine five five says I think the songs enjoyed
the silence and personal Jesus, but also I still like
right now, set me Free, remotivate me. I Feel Loved,
dream On and more. I had my I had a
playlist on shuffle this morning and I Feel Loved popped
(13:54):
on in the new vehicle in black Celebration. I had
to listen to that track in Forever and oh my god,
go did it just hit in all the right ways?
Such a great track. I don't have a song commentary
this week.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
My apologies.
Speaker 2 (14:07):
I'm just I'm short on time, but I'm I've put
it on the short list of songs that I want
to do for a song commentary because I Feel Loved
doesn't get enough love, especially from exciter, write an album
that's questionable among fans. Per Winding writes this, my first
song with depeche Mode was just can't get enough. I
(14:30):
clearly remember the day, a Tuesday, rainy day.
Speaker 1 (14:34):
That's cool.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
Tool forty six twenty eight writes this, So dig the insight.
I think it's forty six and two. I think this
is Tool forty six and two. I don't know why
it is twenty anyway, So dig the insight of fans
from all corners that chime in and share their experiences
and love of our band. John, you are the best
(14:57):
captain at the helm of our dm ship. In my opinion,
I wanted to say thank you for this podcast treat
and all the best to the and to.
Speaker 1 (15:06):
The best fans on the planet. Thank you for that.
I appreciate it. I'm okay at what I do.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
I'm the only guy talking on a podcast about the
best mode every single week. So you know, I suppose
if I'm the best cat to go and do that,
then I am until somebody better than me comes along.
Speaker 1 (15:23):
All right, let's see.
Speaker 2 (15:24):
Jim Lujan writes this, thanks for doing the show, John,
I know the Minneapolis events are totally horrific. I did
hear you mentioned Monrovia, California. I'm in West Covina, very
familiar with West Covina. As a matter of fact, I
drove through West Covina.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
Well.
Speaker 2 (15:40):
My brother lives in Glendora. But when I was in
town last year, when I was in California, my first
visit in nine years to California, my father and I
got in the car and just drove and I basically
just drove all around to my old stomping grounds that
I that I used to free when I was growing up,
(16:01):
and went out to the old BMS track in Dazusa,
drove through West Covina.
Speaker 1 (16:05):
I just love that area. My wife hates Southern California.
I love it.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
I think you and I got into depeche Mode around
the same time in the same area.
Speaker 1 (16:13):
Very cool.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
Yeah, and as you know jim Man, depeche Mode going
back to the eighties eighty eight, eighty nine, ninety through
ninety four ninety five.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
Holy cow.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
To be a depeche Mode fan in Southern California during
those years was epic. Aaron Donaldson says, I started out
loving love in Itself.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
Then one oh one got me hooked on the band.
Speaker 2 (16:39):
Thank you for that erin, and then lastly friend of
the show, Glenn nineteen sixty five, thank you for bringing
the podcast. I think many of us that love depeche
Mode are deep thinkers and emotionally connected, so appreciate your
feelings about the tragedy. Regarding when I became aware of
depeche Mode. That was seeing new life on top of
the pops and being struck by their individuality and unique sound.
(17:04):
But it was blasphemous rumors that cemented my adoration so
much more than a pop song, storytelling and insight which
has resonated with every in car Nation well said there, Glenn,
and thank you to everybody who wrote in this week.
As always, I really do, really do appreciate it, so
(17:27):
I hope to hear from you between now and next
week again. Leave a comment up on YouTube or drop
me an email, talkshow Nerd at gmail dot com. Don't
worry if you were hoping for a song commentary this week.
I know you were all just sitting on the edge
of your seats right No, So I will bring that
feature back next week again. Just short on time this week,
got a lot going on, but did not want to
(17:48):
let the week go by without talking about Depeche Mode
a bit and again hoping to hoping to hear from you.
Talkshow Nerd at gmail dot com. What have you currently
been listening to?
Speaker 1 (18:01):
I've had this idea.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
I haven't executed it yet, but I've had this idea
of trying to go back to listen to Depeche Mode
the way that I used to Prior to having our smartphones.
I had made compilation CDs, but even that gets into
the two thousands. I'm talking about going back to the
(18:22):
nineteen you know, the late eighties and nineties. For those
of you that have been fans long enough and listening
to Depeche Mode and the only way that we could
back then either on cassette tape CD the singles. Now,
I know that would be difficult today, Like it's a
bummer for me. My new car doesn't have a CD player,
which bums me out. But listening to Depeche Mode but
(18:46):
only digitally streaming the way we used to like, instead
of playlists, just going back and either listening to the
individual singles and the songs on those singles, or just
the albums themselves.
Speaker 1 (18:59):
I haven't done this yet. I just, you know, it.
Speaker 2 (19:02):
Seems a little laborious because of the way that we
listen to music now. But these bands, and specifically Depeche Mode,
still continue to put so much time crafting the order
of the songs that I don't know, there's a part
of me that feels like I want to spend some
time respecting that and listening.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
To full albums.
Speaker 2 (19:19):
I've been doing that almost exclusively with Memento Mori as
of late. I talked about this last week on the show.
But how you know, our fandom was so much different
because we were limited in the amount of entertainment that
we had surrounding us. And so therefore, when an album
came out, we could just sort of think and dive
into it and devote ourselves to it, where now our
(19:40):
attention is divided among so many other different available options
that we have to keep those dopamine hits going. But
when it comes to Memento moriy I've really been spending
time just listening to the album top to bottom, especially
on my bike rides, and I've found myself just appreciating
the album more and more. There's no burn on it.
This recently with both Spirit and Delta Machine as well,
(20:05):
because those are probably pretty low on the list of
my favorite albums, and you know, I just I found
myself appreciating them more so just a thought. These are
the kind of thoughts that I have as a Depeche
Mode fan. So anything that you'd like to share again,
drop me an email, leave a comment up on YouTube,
and as always, if you like reading science fiction and
you have not checked out my seven book science fiction
(20:26):
space opera series Embark, where After Earth Faces its End,
you can file It's Taft, Kaitha and their crew on
a journey of survival across the galaxy as they fight
for humanity's future. A lot of depeche Mode references in there.
An exciting, action packed romance filled the venture without an agenda.

Speaker 1 (21:20):
Bye. Hello, this is Martin Bad deche Mode and you
are listening to my and depeche Mode the podcast
