Em um modelo mais dinâmico, com destaque mínimo para as categorias mais técnicas e 'menos famosas', a premiação célere ofereceu poucas surpresas entre os vitoriosos. 'Duna' foi o grande vencedor da noite, com 6 prêmios no total, e 'No Ritmo do Coração' levou o principal prêmio da noite, o Oscar de Melhor Filme.
O grande acontecimento da premiação, no entanto, foi o tapa na cara proferido por Will Smith contra o comediante Chris Rock. O que ofuscou parte do brilho da vitória de Smith, que levou para casa a estatueta de Melhor Ator pela sua atuação em 'King Richard: Criando Campeãs'; a sua primeira vitória e terceira indicação.
Outro ponto alto da noite foi a estatueta de Melhor de Ator Coadjuvante para Troy Kotsur, o segundo ator surdo a vencer uma estatueta, além do favoritismo confirmado de Jane Campion, de 'Ataque dos Cães', vencendo o prêmio de Melhor Direção. Ouça o podcast!
