Speaker 41 (31:51):
Now.

Speaker 42 (31:52):
Now.

Speaker 7 (31:53):
I got a chance to be in Detroit maybe about
seven or eight eight months ago, and I got to visiting,
and I got to visiting, and one of the things
that let me knew in visiting that service that I
was in a black church.

Speaker 2 (32:08):
When I heard the pastor says, what was the dope?
The dope.

Speaker 3 (32:20):
Lloyd?

Speaker 7 (32:22):
Oh Lord, yeah yeah, I said, oh yeah, I'm in
a black man's housing. Now got that way, Hey, you
know you in a black church that when you walk
into sanctuary, the usher greets you with a Martin Luther
King church fan and an envelope.

Speaker 2 (32:40):
To make sure the tides and off you. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Hey,
I'm gonna tell y'all. I don't know if y'all church
did this, but growing up, man, I thought this was
one of.

Speaker 7 (32:54):
The most egoistic, narcissistic type things that they could ever do.
But we used to have have a portion in the program.
Lord knows, I'm telling the truth. We had a portion
in the program where they listed the names.

Speaker 2 (33:08):
Of the top tiers. Oh wow, yeah, you know, you know,
having them, you know, having them numbers was a lot.

Speaker 10 (33:16):
Wow.

Speaker 28 (33:17):
I've never seen a never seen.

Speaker 7 (33:21):
As a little kid, I was like, man, I'm gonna try.
I'm gonna try to make that list. And I wonder
how many people's giving given given just to make that list.
And then I also wondered how many people looked at
that list and.

Speaker 2 (33:32):
Was like, man, I need to go back home and
give me a ski. Man, I can hit a lick up.

Speaker 4 (33:42):
Man.

Speaker 2 (33:42):
Welcome in. Yeah, yeah, we gotta that. Some of the
stuff we do for that self vainglorious something else.

Speaker 7 (33:48):

he owes me. Well, you better up and find them
because that car ain't gonna be running too much longer. Yeah,

(36:36):
that's one of them type of announcements. When the pastor
is in the black church, he say anything across the
poor pit, especially being a preacher's son myself.

Speaker 2 (36:48):
Hey, where's my son?

up in here on us tonight, y'all. So we're talking tonight.
You could feel free to join us in the chat.
In this fun segment of dang Dal we are talking.

Speaker 7 (37:33):
Some of the things that let you know you are
in a black church would be something you heard, something
that was said, you said, some of the things you did.
It could be the good, it could be the bad.
It could be the past down Like I tell you what, now,
this is really gonna throw y'all back when when when
the usher used to come up and like they said,

(37:55):
the ushers, uh they had the white gloves on and
they would come up and that little mean usher wasn't
big as the doorway was long, and she ease up
on you. And then she sticked that fan out or
either her hand out, and she tell you to put
your gum on it. You know, a gun in the
large house. You know better than that.

Speaker 2 (38:17):
Yeah. So, Solomon Buckley, thank you so much for joining
us on today. You got another one.

Speaker 7 (38:25):
What about uh, Dadney, you were single? What's some of
the your fine memories of the choir memories?

Speaker 40 (38:34):
Oh lord, you better sang that song that was one
and oh oh you gotta have a rock in a
hesitant clap.

Speaker 28 (38:45):
Pop pop pop pop.

Speaker 40 (38:48):
I'm like, oh my god, we gotta do this again.
And you gotta wear the road. You gotta wear that
rod and you cannot wear can't wearings in the road.
And make sure you don't have on red lipstick in
the road.

Speaker 7 (39:03):
We got one comment to say it you knew you
was at a black church when you saw the brand
new Cadillac parting the pastest part.

Speaker 44 (39:11):
Well, oh, from there you came down to shine the

so much.

Speaker 7 (52:13):
Hey, so y'all here we go. Y'all asked for it.
Don't y'all make me regret it? Oh, sir, Survey says
Tammy Daphne. Yes, can we be sexy in the church?

(52:38):
He would we be safety in the church? Hey, come on,
now I want y'all in the chat. Wow, y'all get
out of here.

Speaker 8 (52:45):
Y'all go ahead and answer. People put their names in
the tirement.

Speaker 2 (52:49):
This is your opportunity chat.

Speaker 8 (52:51):
This is your opportunity listener for folks.

Speaker 7 (52:53):
You be like, y'all know good and well, she ain't
had no bennes coming up here like that. Well, y'all
be talking about that man. No, them pans too little
for him to be standing up there like that.

Speaker 2 (53:02):
Go on, now, jet pull the jet. Now, let me
be fair. I'm not talking about.

Speaker 7 (53:10):
The folks that's attending church, because we're gonna take away
the excuse of well, what.

Speaker 2 (53:16):
If they didn't have anything to wear? Should they not come?

Speaker 7 (53:20):
Now we're talking about those that stand before the people,
rendering song and sermon, testimony and all that just got
everything gonna display.

Speaker 2 (53:35):
Is that a distraction to me getting closer to God?
I know when I came, I wanted hands laid on me.

Speaker 7 (53:44):
But I think I'm changing my mind, So let's get
on it for me. Then you be sexy in church.
You are coming up to minister. What are some of
the things that could be a distraction. I want you

(54:05):
to give me the distraction that I want to want
you to go ahead and give me the excuse as
why people can you know, vote for y'all?

Speaker 34 (54:12):
Have that it?

Speaker 3 (54:13):
I digress.

Speaker 28 (54:17):
Okay, sexy is the intention to be sexy.

Speaker 2 (54:25):
No, you should not.

Speaker 28 (54:26):
You should not get dressed for church with the intention
on being sexy. That's not where sexy is supposed to be. Now,
when you walk in.

Speaker 27 (54:35):
The church, or when you stand up and do your speech,
or you preach or sing or whatever, if somebody thinks
that you're sexy, you can't help that because their definition of.

Speaker 8 (54:50):
Sexy may not be.

Speaker 27 (54:54):
They may have their definition of sexy, maybe a long
skirt and a turtle neck, you know, back. They may
think that that's sexy. So a person's definition of sexy
varies from person to person. But if you got dressed
that morning for church and be like, girl, this's sexy
right here, I'm about to go show out.

Speaker 28 (55:12):
No, that's that's not right.

Speaker 2 (55:13):
No, you should not be.

Speaker 7 (55:16):
All right, we heard from the Curve Effect, our resident
Runway professional model. You heard Come on now, Daphne, well,
can you can hold on wait a second, don't get
in trouble this case. The question changed, Daphne, can you

(55:38):
be sexy in the church while conducting whatever it is
you doing.

Speaker 2 (55:46):
Can can you?

Speaker 40 (55:48):
Well, I feel like this when it comes to that
sexy is a matter of opinion. That's number one, and
number two is your intention should not be coming to
church to be sexy. So I agree with you, Tammy,
about the intent.

Speaker 30 (56:04):
But I think.

Speaker 40 (56:07):
I'm sorry, I'm gonna say this again. I think that
it's a matter of opinion if a person is sexy
or not. That's how I feel, and I stay ten
toes down with it.

Speaker 28 (56:19):
So I see it what I said, basically.

Speaker 7 (56:23):
What I see all right, Well, as y'all can tell,
last night, we had a good, deep, family.

Speaker 2 (56:33):
Spirited conversation last night. Here's my take on it.

Speaker 7 (56:39):
But first of all, Tammy, I just want you to
know that in the comments I read you the reason
why certain people come to service here.

Speaker 28 (56:48):
Yep, that's what he said. Well, crazy Jesus, Halljah, hallelujah.

Speaker 2 (56:53):
All right, Well, this is this is what I say.

Speaker 7 (56:56):
I'm gonna take a piece of what Tammy said, and
I'm gonna say what I agree with is that you
cannot you cannot control who deems you as sexy. You
can't you can't control the mindset no matter the gender.
You know, uh that if that's what you set out,

(57:19):
it's gonna collect whoever it is that's up under that advertisement.
I what I say is I always, and y'all know
I'm very meticulous in breaking things down. I look at
it when I saw this question posed Michael Stewart, how
you doing, Eric Martin? The Bishop Bishop? I need your

(57:41):
help here.

Speaker 8 (57:41):
I hope you ain't love.

Speaker 7 (57:42):
Bishop Bishop Morrison. Please don't leave me, Old Lord Jesus,
I need your help. So I looked at it and
I said, the root word of sex se is sex
is that when I want to exhust when I'm on

(58:03):

I'm on stage telling some jokes, and I had on
a white tea and my grace sweatpants. Could possibly, perhaps
maybe I distract you a couple of times with the
attire that I have chosen to adorn. Could you find

(59:50):
me sexy at the wrong time for the wrong reasons? Fellas,
I want y'all to be honest in the chat.

Dixon and we're locked in backstage with d L and

on DL's backstage past conversations.

Speaker 2 (01:12:27):
All right, y'all know what time it is. Put your
hands together for my own air ride and die.

Speaker 62 (01:12:33):
My comedy comrade the Ball, the bearded brown bomber of
comedy himself with his segment I just be BAM give
it up for mister Bam briwn.

Speaker 63 (01:12:50):
All right, dude, let's get into it.

Speaker 10 (01:12:52):
Man.

Speaker 63 (01:12:52):
Now, I know you've been on a lot of cruises.
I've been on the lot myself. Cruising is life. Cruising
is is it?

Speaker 2 (01:13:00):
Man?

Speaker 63 (01:13:01):
It's relaxing, it's fun. The Ambiyonce Carnival Cruise Line is
my cruise line of choice. Shout out the Carnival Cruise Ship.
By the way, It's not sponsored by them or nothing,
but just wanted to give them a small shout out.
I know they're not paying me to do it, but hey,
I spent a lot of money with them, so hey whatever. Anyway,

(01:13:24):
I've never thought about leaving my kids alone at home
to go on a cruise. Yeah, Lakesha Williams Lakeisha Williams,
out of Houston, twenty nine years old.

Speaker 2 (01:13:36):
Yeah, she thought it was cool to go on a cruise.
You know.

Speaker 63 (01:13:42):
She flew out of Houston, flew to Miami, got on
a cruise ship and enjoyed herself.

Speaker 2 (01:13:51):
But here's the kicker.

Speaker 63 (01:13:52):
She left her kids at home now with a babysitter,
you know, not with a relative, not with the neighbor.
She left her six and her eight year old at
home by themselves just to kick it on a cruise ship.

Speaker 2 (01:14:11):
Come on, man, I just be bam. What is wrong
with these people?

Speaker 63 (01:14:16):
I'm not even gonna say women, what is wrong with
people nowadays? That you got to turn up that much?
Or your turn up is that real? That's severe that
you got to leave your kids at home by themselves,
Like I said, not with a neighbor, not with a babysitter,
not with a relative. This is she left them at

(01:14:36):
home with one cell phone and cameras in her place.
That's how she communicated with her kids while she was
on a cruise. Dang Neil week she's gone communicating with
the kids eight years old and six years old. Picture

(01:14:58):
that in your head if you listen steners have an
eight year old or a six year old, or somewhere
around close to that age.

Speaker 2 (01:15:07):
Think about their mindset.

Speaker 63 (01:15:09):
Think about how they react and act at home. Are
they responsible adults? Are they responsible teenagers?

Speaker 2 (01:15:16):
Are they responsible children?

Speaker 63 (01:15:19):
It does not matter because the parent is irresponsible to
leave their kid or kids at home while you go
on a cruise. Now you ain't going to the grocery store.
You ain't going right downstairs to get your food from
door dash. You're not going to the neighbor's house to
bars some sugar. You're not running to the convenience store

(01:15:39):
right there on the corner. Hey, kids, I'll be right back.
I'm gonna get your chips. I'm gonna get your snacks.
I'm gonna get your lunchibles or whatever you need.

Speaker 2 (01:15:46):
I'll be right back.

Speaker 63 (01:15:46):
Just hold tight, don't touch nothing, don't let nobody in. No,
I'm gonna go from Houston to Miami catch a cruise
ship to Puerto Rico. That ain't coming right back. So anyway,
long story short. The neighbors, the neighbors, thank God for
Karen's this time, thank God for Karen's. Karen saw the mama,

(01:16:09):
you know, with luggage, packing the luggage in the car
or whatever could have been a uber or whatever, packing
some stuff in the car, being nosy as usual, and
noticed that the mom left by herself and didn't return
no time soon. So they did a wellness check. Good
for Karen did a wellness check, called the police. Police

(01:16:30):
knocked on the door, kids let them in. Looking around
the house, said the kids are in a disarray, food everywhere,
the house reeks of pea. And so they get in
there and the kids are like, yeah, man, our mom
went on a cruise and we don't know when she's

(01:16:52):
coming back.

Speaker 3 (01:16:53):
What I'll just be bad.

Speaker 63 (01:16:58):
So anyway, Mom. Finally they try to get a hold
of Mom on the cruise ship. Mom's her story ain't
adding up. She's saying that I left my kids with
the car I paid my cousin. My cousin's supposed to
be watching them. Now I guess my cousin ain't you know,
ain't watching them. And you know she renegged on the
deal and took my money.

Speaker 2 (01:17:19):
No check.

Speaker 63 (01:17:20):
You had that all set up, You had that all
set up.

Speaker 2 (01:17:24):
So you know what you deserve to go to jail.

Speaker 63 (01:17:27):
You know what you deserve to get your kids taken
from you. So now the kids are living with the
auntie and it says that the mama can't come within
two hundred feet of anywhere. The kids are shout out
to the judicialism, to the system.

Speaker 2 (01:17:43):
You know this time because a lot of times it
goes wrong.

Speaker 63 (01:17:47):
But for mom, you don't deserve kids. And they said
she was a nurse and she lived in a big
expensive high rise and all that. Man, none of that
stuff matters at all, None of that matters.

Speaker 2 (01:17:59):
You are what you deserve.

Speaker 63 (01:18:01):
Lakeisha Williams. You are the worst parent on the planet,
and I hope that you're kicking it. I hope your
cruise to Puerto Rico. I hope you man. I hope
you turned up and turned it out, because you ain't
turning out nothing now but some braids and some laundry
and some of that.

Speaker 2 (01:18:23):
You know what about? I just be bam.

Speaker 64 (01:18:41):
I know I have a past to make me feel
this way. I know how did some wrongs. I need
some love today, a little craze and some mercy. Your
brother really hurting.

Speaker 3 (01:18:52):
I really need your love it.

Speaker 64 (01:18:55):
I'm tired of touting myself, fighting myself. Anybody hear me, Lord,
I'm calling you, know you because your word tells me to.
Then you tell me you love me from the beacond

Speaker 15 (01:19:17):

and courageous, few with your greatness, because ain't nobody starving men.
I gotta remind myself not to be broken. I gotta
remind myself that Jesus dying for me. I gotta remind

Hey, man, had you considered now, I ain't talking about
belittle in nobody, close the dough, loose the dough. No,
we ain't talking about be little in nobody like that.
But I mean, if you calling these people your spiritual
sons and spiritual daughters, do you know there's not a
time I've looked at my kids in their sleep clothes

(01:30:43):
and thought it was appropriate. All right, you wake up,
you go to the restroom, you come dowwn, you say.

Speaker 2 (01:30:50):
Hey, daddy, how you doing right?

Speaker 7 (01:30:52):
Okay, now clean yourself Because to me, sleep clothes is
a static, a status of.

Not yet yourself. It's just how I was raised.

Speaker 7 (01:31:04):
Don't nobody supposed to well when I grew up, didn't
nobody in my household get up, go in the restroom,
shower to put on sleep clothes. So to me, when
you're still in sleep clothes, are you in pajamas? I
picture you have skipped the restroom because you had you
was running late. You had to hurry up, jump up,

(01:31:25):
run your kid to the school, hurry up, run to
the bank real quick. Then I'll come back and get
myself together.

Speaker 2 (01:31:31):
That's how I look at it. So how did I
get here? Lord?

Speaker 7 (01:31:34):
So when you look at the fact that, oh, spiritual
sons and daughters. So I used to tell my sons
when my daughters was away, Hey, man, go put a
shirt on. Not because I think you're trying to be uninappropriate.

Speaker 2 (01:31:51):
We put a shirt on.

Speaker 7 (01:31:53):
I'm the man of this house, and I don't walk
around like that. Cover yourself, respect your mama, respects, your sister,
so that he will seek that type of respect when
they start to venture outside the house. So I said
that to say, I don't see how something is your
spiritual daughter and you feel comfortable seeing her like that
for him. Yeah yeah, but I didn't say him. So

(01:32:19):
you let me get to that. Don't correct me no more.
I'm gonna need her from in front of the.

Speaker 2 (01:32:24):
Church here in a minute.

Speaker 7 (01:32:29):
So yeah, y'all, that's that's what we got into last night.
Some churches are allowing too much. They're allowing everything. Yeah,
they ask if you need some extra Bibles. That just
made me think about the first Friday.

Speaker 2 (01:32:48):
Miss Park, Miss Bark, Let's pray. Lord is my shepherd,
he know what I want. Yeah, there are there are
a lot of them out there like that.

heart having preachers and pastors.

I've been blessed. Now. I done seen some chumps. I
done seen some jokers.

platform to glorify that. I'm going to say to all
of you that have prayed for me, that have pray
for my father, that have pray for our church, that
to pray for my mother, that have pray for my children.
All of you that are praying for your church members
when they don't even realize it, and you feel like

(01:33:37):
you're being overlooked, you being underappreciated. Keep on pressing, pastors,
because your church is the churches that we need to
see the doors stay open to. Your churches are the
churches that we need to be coming into to lift
our holy hands, because then we will get holy instructions
and we won't seem like we're being picked on and

(01:33:59):
and and put off, but.

Speaker 2 (01:34:01):
We're just being given instructions to That's it, because I'm gonna.

Speaker 7 (01:34:05):

it around here in a minute, now close the door,
close the door.

Speaker 3 (01:43:14):
I'm hey, what's up?

Speaker 71 (01:43:37):
This is Angel and I'm locked in backstage with d
L and BAM and the hottest music talking topics this
side of Heaven, along with all the funny you can
handle on DL's backstage past conversations.

Speaker 8 (01:43:51):
No nobody, but.

Speaker 7 (01:43:53):
We're getting ready to get into story time with Agria degree. Alright, y'all,
how y'all doing this story time, and this is the
time of the show that it's new and we tell
a story, and you have to tell me if I'm
telling you a story, if I'm telling you the truth.

Speaker 2 (01:44:09):
You know it's going to be like my book is
coming out, sitting here telling lies, speaking the truth.

Speaker 7 (01:44:15):
So you got to tell me if I'm sitting here
telling you a lie or if I'm speaking the truth.
All right, So it was probably back in nineteen hundred
and eighty eighties, eighty nine ish. See, I was known
growing up in my neighborhood as a little boy what
coming from the Jackson tree.

Speaker 34 (01:44:36):
You know.

Speaker 7 (01:44:37):
I had one of the real big fat, nicely picked
out afros. It was fluffy because I had a good, healthy,
grater hair. You know, my blades wasn't thinning at that time,
and so I.

Speaker 2 (01:44:48):
Had a full, healthy hair.

Speaker 7 (01:44:49):
And then all of a sudden, against my dad's better judgment,
my mom said, I think I want to put some
curls in your head. So she took me off and
I started getting and that curl from Jerry's, Yeah, the
Jerry curl. I wore Jerry curl with the stains of
the Carefree red and yellow bottle curl activator that you

(01:45:10):
rubbed in your head and your moisturized.

Speaker 8 (01:45:12):
But I was getting ready for.

Speaker 7 (01:45:16):
Yeah, it had to be nineteen hundred and eighty nine
because I was a junior, just a young boy back then, slim,
trim and fit with curls for the girls at Well,
let me die, Chris.

Speaker 2 (01:45:31):
But I said, you know, I'm tired of my collars
being messed up on my polo shirts. I'm tired of
my t shirts looking like I don't wash my neck.

Speaker 72 (01:45:43):
So I said, I wonder if I could get my
hair cut in the style to where it was short
on the sides, curly up.

Speaker 2 (01:45:53):
In the top with the curl rat tail.

Speaker 7 (01:45:56):
Back in those days, this was nineteen hundred and eighty
eight eight and so robbed.

Speaker 8 (01:46:02):
I said, yeah, I think I could do that and
put you know.

Speaker 73 (01:46:05):
Back when I was coming up in my neighborhood, the
barber shop walls had the hair charts, and the haircut
I wanted was one out of my vivid imagination.

Speaker 3 (01:46:16):
So it wasn't on the charts.

Speaker 7 (01:46:18):
So what I went did is grabbed a picture out
of one of my favorite music magazines with a picture
of one the kid of baby Face and Mince, So
I walked out the house.

Speaker 2 (01:46:32):
No, I didn't let me stop it. I ran out
the house with in my right hand a picture of
baby Face from the whipp Appill video.

Speaker 7 (01:46:41):
And I'm just running curls bouncing everybody like, why where
you're going? I'm headed over to the barber shop. Now
we had a bo I had came down my block
and turned to the left. I was going to Owney's barbershop,
and everybody knew Owes everybody went to.

Speaker 2 (01:47:00):
But if I turned to the right.

Speaker 7 (01:47:02):
I was going into uncharted, dangerous territory. Bits when it
came to barbershop visits. Oh yeah, there was a barber
shop that boys would walk twelve extra blocks to go
get a haircut, whether than the gold of this one
barbershop called Shakes. But to the day, I can't even

(01:47:23):
tell you what the real name of that barbershop was.
But the barber shop was called Shakes. And they said
that the building the Shakes barbershop was in was haunted
because it seemed like any time somebody stood in front
of the building. Matter of fact, one of the buildings
had a sign and said, don't stand in front of
this building, because it seemed like everybody that stood in
front of the building, got hit by something, whether itself

(01:47:44):
felt like a fourth push them out in front of
a car, pushing them out in front of a bus car,
hopped up on the drive on the sidewalk, ran them over,
got hit by a bicycle, got hit by a scooter,
shook one person got ran over by a woman pulling
a wagon with a sun in the back.

Speaker 2 (01:47:57):
Wow, what regress.

Speaker 7 (01:48:00):
I go in there with my curls curl for the girls.

Speaker 2 (01:48:05):
And I go in and I say, mister Shakes, can
you do this for me? And the reason why they
called them shakes because he shook. He had had the
clippers in his hands, and he said, God, dear boy,
let me. I think I can.

Speaker 7 (01:48:23):
Yeah, come on and say down here, I think I
can do just that. With the faith of the Lord,
I walked through the valley of the Shadow of Death.

Speaker 2 (01:48:34):
I didn't fear any evil. And I sat right there
in the chair because it's.

Speaker 7 (01:48:38):
Bad as the rid was shaken the ride and the
staff that was with me, and he said, you much
every want off of it?

Speaker 2 (01:48:47):
And I said, just just just on the sides.

Speaker 7 (01:48:49):
I wanted start not quite skinned, and then I wanted
when it gets to the back, be a little fuller
where it lay down.

Speaker 2 (01:48:55):
But I want the rat tail, you know, the rattail,
the v neck cut, and then I want to curl
was up the top of the I wanted up to
stay just like that. I wanted to curly. Yeah, yeah,
I can do that. He had to stop. Every once
in a while he wipe his mouth because his face

(01:49:18):
was wet from his tongue hanging out of his mouth.
Then every once in a while he had to grab
his red And as I sat there, I said, father,
I put my trust in me, and I got out
of it. He got done, he did, I want to
tell me what, tell me what it looks like to you? Boy?

Speaker 7 (01:49:41):
Oh my goodness, he handed He handed me the mirror,
and I said, sweet Jesus, he gave me a mirror.

Speaker 2 (01:49:47):
He didn't turn me around. When I looked into that mirror,
tears beginning to drop down my cheeks.

Speaker 7 (01:49:58):
But I could not believe that I had survived shakes
shakes and got my exactly the water in the picture.
It might have took him seven hours longer than if
I hadn't win down there on his battle shop, But
I was getting up out of shake's share a survivor.
So I come out of Shakes and I run back

(01:50:20):
up the street. And now by this time I've been
there so long. Everybody was outside and they're.

Speaker 3 (01:50:24):
Like, where you been?

Speaker 15 (01:50:25):
Mad?

Speaker 2 (01:50:25):

I rocked to Jerry Curl, and I really did. I
got tired of my polo shirts then. You know, back
then polos was expensive.

Speaker 7 (01:54:29):
I got tired of the collars of my polo Shirtsy
in mess Loka, remember back then you used to wear
your your polo collars up and I didn't. I wanted

this day, I can't even remember what the name of

that we just started calling him Shakes. And the only
the only people that really went there was mothers kind
of getting their babies first haircut, so you know, they
