you just can't have fun. Travel and we're back with
a night of new metal. You guys are enjoying what
(28:01):
you're hearing.
Speaker 2 (28:02):
Yeah, we decided to switch things up a little bit
and find a subject matter. I guess you could say
this being a genre of music, and we went with
new metal. Let's talk a little bit about new metal.
I mean, you and I are years apart in the
age and when I grew up that was.
Speaker 1 (28:18):
That's because I'm a Highland h Yeah, so you know, I.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
Was born in nineteen ninety and you know, I would
say the early nineties into the early two thousands was
the new metal era.
Speaker 1 (28:27):
Oh absolutely, well, the nineties, we you know, we were
finishing off the heavy metal and going into grunge, alternative grunge,
and then the fire back from that was new metal.
Speaker 2 (28:43):
Some of those metal bands you know, from the late
eighties into the early nineties, like Pantera were dabbling with
more groove metal stuff that sounded a little bit new metal.
Faith we played earlier, you know. I think Korn was
probably the band that really put it on the map
with the seven string guitars and.
Speaker 1 (29:02):
Corn and then we had that whole thing with like
Rage Against Machine and kid Rock and olymp Biscuit with
the rap men.
Speaker 2 (29:10):
Yeah, definitely, olymp Biscuit, Rage Against the Machine. It's it's
you know, I could totally understand why you would say
that they'd be in that category, but they never strike
me as a new metal band. I know, they don't.
Speaker 1 (29:21):
They were like kind of earlier. I guess they both
came out around the same time, but they had more
publicity and were more popular in the early nineties. I
remember when the first Rage Against the Machine album came
out and everybody was like, Oh, this is going to
(29:42):
be the new thing. Sure and sure, you know, it
was another you know after that, then we had like
the kid Rock, we had the lymp Biscuit, all the
rap rock pod.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
It's such a wide, you know, array of sounds in
that category because these are bands that were just experimental.
They were mixing things like industrial and electronic with metal, funk, pop, slipknot,
Yeah being one of the big ones. And then had
Lincoln Park where Warner Brothers came in and said, let's
commercialize the fuck out of this, and they pretty much
(30:15):
you know, those guys were talented, but they definitely pieced
together and made them you know what they were in
the year two thousand or whatever.
Speaker 1 (30:23):
I remember. I remember seeing Lincoln Park for ninety two
cents and CBGB's that's that's that's awesome, man for ninety
two to three k Rock It cost me.
Speaker 2 (30:35):
Like seventeen bucks to eat fast food the other day.
Speaker 1 (30:38):
Yeah, easy too, Yeah, easily. I saw a couple bands
for ninety two cents there, Living Color, Black Crows.
Speaker 2 (30:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (30:48):
K Rock was good with that back in the day,
and they would have some up and coming bands that
turned out to be pretty good.
Speaker 2 (30:57):
What would you say your favorite new metal band was
from from that Erarorm.
Speaker 1 (31:04):
I'd say between Corn and Biscuit. Those were and Stained too,
Stained I love that first.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
Early Yeah, Early Stained had some tracks definitely fit under
that category. I mean, it's probably how Fred Durst found them.
Speaker 1 (31:18):
You know, yeah, well he found them. He found Puddle
of Mud. That was another Yeah, I that first Puddle
of Mud out.
Speaker 2 (31:26):
It's actually good, Yeah it is.
Speaker 1 (31:28):
What's that song Drift and something? The second track?
Speaker 2 (31:30):
There are like five singles on that record and they're
all usually Yeah. We actually played him at work the
other day, believe it or not.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
And in fact I even have another band on here too.
I saw on the Family Values tour that was like
when a new metal was breaking. Corn was on the
Biscuit uh Stained and Orgy Orgy I called.
Speaker 2 (31:51):
Him a club revolution before they closed down. Really yeah,
it was like one of those little cash grab reunion
type things where fifteen people showed up, you know, yeah,
sorry Orgy, but no, Jay Gordon's a great vocalist, man.
Speaker 1 (32:03):
Yeah, well, seeing I spelt the same thing with a
revolution with Scott's stap. Yeah, he was there like three times.
Speaker 2 (32:11):
That's funny, man, Like the three times probably packed out
though no.
Speaker 1 (32:15):
One time I went to see him play, there was
like maybe forty people.
Speaker 2 (32:18):
Actually, speaking of Creed even Human Clay. Like that opening
track what If it has It's got some of the
heavy like almost like a new metal, right alternative metal.
Speaker 1 (32:30):
I guess that was for the soundtrack of a Freddy
Krueger movie.
Speaker 2 (32:34):
Actually was it. Yeah, that's that's funny, man.
Speaker 1 (32:37):
If you look at the video, you'll see it's for
Freddy Krueger movie. They have some good a lot of
soundtracks had a lot of great stuff. They where they
would bring in two different artists and have them collaborate. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (32:51):
I missed those soundtracks and back them.
Speaker 5 (32:53):
They were the best.
Speaker 2 (32:54):
Yeah, man, Actually the Freddy versus Jason soundtrack, that spine
Shank song, I think that you have to that was
on that. I think, yes, it was, or the Little
maybe the Little Nikki soundtrack. I don't remember, but it was.
Speaker 1 (33:06):
Yeah, it was definitely on a soundtrack that I remember.
That was some good stuff.
Speaker 2 (33:12):
I have to say my favorite neu metal record, sorry
to interrupt you there, Oh good LD fifty by mud Vain.
Speaker 1 (33:18):
Yeah, that was a good one. Right after this conversation, No,
but it's in the next the next set.
Speaker 2 (33:26):
That's awesome, dude. And we got our unsigned bands at
nine PM.
Speaker 1 (33:30):
And tonight's classic track is from mister lou Reed.
Speaker 27 (33:36):
Let me tell you something.
Speaker 1 (33:37):
Lou Reid was kind of big in the seventies. Especially
after you know, coming from that whole but getting a
punk with iggy pop reds awesome. Yeah. He and then
when he did that collaboration with Metallic, I was like,
what the fuck? So yeah, I mean when he was
with the Velvet Underground, you.
Speaker 2 (33:57):
Know that album that they did with Nico or whatever.
There are some really great tracks on that album. I
know that could have been its own you know, it
is is its own thing, you.
Speaker 1 (34:07):
Know, but everyone overlooks that for some reason. Anyway, let's
get back into some more tunes. We're gonna start off
with Fear Factory, nice new metal on Double Trouble Radio.

of the week hit.
Speaker 2 (01:41:38):
Paul if we have time before the classic track, can
I throw at a little bit of rock and roll
news in here? Sure, because this is a funny story
that caught my attention. Okay, are you familiar with the
band Cky from Pennsylvania, New Ky.
Speaker 19 (01:41:51):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (01:41:52):
They became very popular in the early days of Jackass
because of their song ninety eight or sixty eight White
Bitter Beings. It was like this the theme song to
the original Jackass.
Speaker 1 (01:42:03):
Dudes, if you heard it, you know it before the
minute man.
Speaker 2 (01:42:06):
You know, those guys have a tough guy type of attitude,
and for some odd reason they were thrown on alien
Ant Farms like Reunion tour. Oh yes, musically that doesn't
really seem to make much sense now, I don't know
whose idea that was, but alien Ant Farm is the
opposite of a tough attitude band. Oh absolutely, they're They're
openly fun and kind of flamboyant in their ways, you know.
(01:42:29):
But apparently, which is not a problem. I love both bands, right,
But apparently they were not getting along during the tour
because the singer Chad I think his name is, of course,
Chad Chad Ginsburg punched dryed in in the face. So
the singer and malin an farm got got hit in
the face, possibly sucker punched, not entirely sure, and so
(01:42:53):
c K why got booted off the tour and a
lot of what the two of these dudes have to
say about each other. It's hysterical, but I'm here to
stir up the drama. I just wanted to throw some
rock and roll news from there.
Speaker 8 (01:43:03):
C K.
Speaker 2 (01:43:04):
Y will not be on that the rest of that
Alien Air Farm tour, if you guys were interested in
going to it. And yeah, man, it's a it's a
funny one.
Speaker 1 (01:43:12):
Well, this lou Reed song kind of sums that up.
Speaker 2 (01:43:17):
Uh, yes, it does it.
Speaker 1 (01:43:19):
Oh yeah, you'll.
Speaker 2 (01:43:20):
Sicol I got butchs of the face kind of by
arrogant rock star.
Speaker 1 (01:43:24):
Kind of kind of kind of here's some lou read
on a classic track of the week.
Speaker 30 (01:43:38):
Fish you're getting your red flower.
Speaker 2 (01:43:44):

Speaker 30 (01:43:48):
