Speaker 10 (38:28):
Yeah, last year maybe around the same time.

Speaker 31 (38:31):
Actually literally yeah, literally about the same time.

Speaker 15 (38:35):

Speaker 31 (38:36):
You played Villain Arc Yes, and I still remember like
listening to it getting so emotional. And it feels really
nice to be back here with you guys, you know,
first interview. I'm so excited.

Speaker 10 (38:49):
It's awesome to have you, and it's cool to see
people in the chat room supporting you and asking questions
which we will get to eventually talk to us a
little bit about your journey and how you ended up
from Brazil to Los Angeles. I read somewhere that you're
actually like a practicing dentist over there in Brazil.

Speaker 31 (39:09):
Yeah, that's a fun the fun fact about me. So
I started like making music and posting videos and writing
music over fifteen sixteen years ago when I was like fifteen,
fourteen fifteen, and I always knew I liked music and

(39:30):
wanted to do this, but my family was very much
like you have to go to college and get a
real job.

Speaker 10 (39:40):
Situation.

Speaker 31 (39:42):
Yeah, but at the time I didn't realize like that
I could make my own choices, you know what I mean,
Like it's hard when you were young like that. And
so I ended up going to college, you know, to
dental school, and which I do love very much, by
the way, But the entire time I was still like
posting videos. I like went in auditioned for the voice

(40:06):
in Brazil and nobody picked me, but like it helped
me to build my confidence and believe in myself a
little bit more and continue to like always post videos
throughout my dental school, throughout my masters and then when
I finished my master's degree in in the dontics because
for some reason, I chose that doing rook Canals was

(40:27):
the best thing to be doing with my life for
like seven years.

Speaker 10 (40:30):
So you're the type of person that wants to inflict
pain on people, I.

Speaker 31 (40:32):
Say, and now it's pain with my words. It's a
great trade. And when I finished my masters, I was
I already had a green card, Like my dad was
an immigrant in this country before me, and he was
in the East Coast, actually in Boston for a long time.

(40:53):
And if I didn't move to the US, I was
going to lose my right to have a green card, right,
And so I was like, okay, I could. I got
into a PhD program, and I was like, okay, do
I want to get my PhD here in Brazil or
do I want to go to the US, keep my
green cart and follow my music dreams. And it was

(41:15):
actually really hard to sit them to make I think,
breaking out of that mode of what your family wants
you to do, what you were taught your entire life
that you should do that's fast for you, like et cetera,
et cetera. I was already in my mid twenties, and
you know how hard it is, you know, sometimes to
be starting a real career in music as a woman

(41:36):
in your mid late twenties and stuff. But I moved
to the US and served a lot of tables in
Times Square. I lived in New York for a year,
and then I moved to LA to get closer to
the music industry and like follow my dreams more. And
here in La is where I started recording my music

(41:59):
and releasing And I'm so happy to have finally released
my album. So that's a long story, not so short.

Speaker 33 (42:07):
I got here.

Speaker 10 (42:08):
That's an awesome background, and we're going to be playing
some of the songs off that record tonight. And there
was that one song, Welcome to La that I heard,
you know, a couple of months back, that kind of
described what it was like living out there a bit.
I know we're not going to be behind that one tonight,
but as an introduct, as an introduction to everybody was listening.
I'm curious as to how that transition was for you,

(42:31):
leaving Brazil, chasing these dreams and being a part of
the Los Angeles scene. Did you have any intentions or
not intentions, but any connections that you developed when you
moved to the US, or that you had before you
moved out here that brought you into a scene out there,
or did you just go out there with some money
that you made in New York and you just kind

(42:52):
of like went for it.

Speaker 13 (42:54):
I just went for it.

Speaker 31 (42:56):
So when I moved from Brazil to New York, initially
I have little brother who was there, so it was
just like helpful to have not have to have so
much money to move into the country right away. Right
So I moved and stay at my brother's place for
a month while I got a job in an apartment
and I didn't know anyone else really, and I created

(43:18):
an amazing group of friends in New York and I
started playing shows in New York. And I'm so thankful
for the people who helped me start getting into the
live music scene in New York, you know, I take
that to heart. And when I came to LA it
was very much a shot in the dark also, But

(43:39):
it just so happened that a couple months before I
moved to I believe before I moved to LA, I
met my current boyfriend, Blake, who was also my producer,
and he was in a touring band at the time,
and he became a producer and moved to La to
pursue like producing and stuff. And I had met him

(44:01):
and went on a date in New York and fell
in love and then went as soon as I moved
to LA, which I did not move for him.

Speaker 19 (44:08):
By the way, it just so happened.

Speaker 31 (44:11):
It just so happened. I moved here and we started
dating right away, and then he started producing my songs
as soon as I when I started like being able
to go into the studio to record them, and so
it just serendipity like happened like that. It's amazing that
I got into kind of that scene. And then COVID hit,

(44:33):
right That's when I.

Speaker 10 (44:34):
Said, I was going to ask you that question.

Speaker 31 (44:36):
Yeah, yeah, I for me, COVID it was obviously awful
in so many ways, you know. And so I lost
my grandpa to COVID during twenty twenty, like before vaccines
were a thing, and it was definitely really hard. But
for my career it was amazing on a because I

(45:01):
was working so hard my like serving jobs that I
never had the time, you know, to or the money
really to do anything. And then when COVID hit, I
got unemployment from my jobs and then I had the time,
so I had the money and the time. And then
when COVID first hit and it was going to be
two weeks of lockdown, like and I got into the

(45:23):
studio and recorded my first EP.

Speaker 10 (45:26):
It's amazing and it's really great that you were able
to take that opportunity to be creative and record music
and not just sit on the couch and watch Netflix
or whatever.

Speaker 6 (45:34):
You know.

Speaker 31 (45:35):
Oh absolutely for me, it was like because I remember
on the first it was kind of confusing in the beginning,
right because they were like we thought it was going
to be just for a couple of weeks, and then
it wasn't. And then I did catch myself for a
second there, just like the watching TV shows and whatnot,
which is great, you know for a certain amount of time.
Then I was like, if I don't go after my dream,

(45:59):
Like if I don't make it happen, nobody is going
to make it happen.

Speaker 34 (46:02):
For me.

Speaker 31 (46:03):
I just was like, now I have the time, and
like my bills are paid for the unemployment because everything's
shut down. So I just dove into it really hard,
and like I created so much content, It grew so
much on social media and just like recorded so much music.

(46:24):
It was awesome in that sense, you know, to kind
of just focus all of my energy into this creative
space and not have to burn myself out because because
I was getting unemployment, you know, and that was really
good to have the time, and I have to be
like working so many hours and then having to go

(46:48):
and be creative.

Speaker 10 (46:49):
All right, Ari, I've been calling you Ari in my
head for a while, but I think it's that you're
calling it yourself Ari.

Speaker 6 (46:56):
Right.

Speaker 31 (46:57):
Oh yeah, I call myself Ari, but I'm not a
fat well Ari.

Speaker 10 (47:03):
We're gonna we're gonna play what I think one of
your most streamed songs off the new record. It's called
call the Shots. If you could tell us a little
bit about it before we get it on the air,
that'd be great.

Speaker 31 (47:13):
Yeah, So Call the Shots. I wrote the song together
with Blake and with like the old roommate John Londine,
and we wanted to write something that was like taking
control of my life, right. I was telling them that
everybody was that time, and everybody's like, oh, I want
to be the main character. I want to be the
main character whatever, and I'm like, I don't want to

(47:34):
be the main character. I want to be a director.
I want to be the person who is like writing,
who is directing, who is like making everything happen? And
also the protagonist of course. But so I had to
talk with the guys and we're like, Okay, I want
a song that embodies that feeling of taking control of

(47:55):
my life, just like well the little pandemic thing we're
talking about, right, I have this time and I'm gonna
go make my dreams happen. So I think the phrase
from Call the Shots that really sticks with me is like,
if life is like a movie, I'm gon write a
new scene, which we can make that.

Speaker 10 (48:13):
Choice to write our own scenes. And guys, you're hearing
it live all over the world on Double Trouble Radio.
This is called the Shots by Ari on Double Trouble Radio.

Speaker 31 (48:25):
Shout, I try to let go.

Speaker 35 (48:31):
When all of us to start a that Joe and
keep on this until my town th won't turn it
out into esday.

Speaker 15 (48:41):
So I used to sit.

Speaker 35 (48:44):
Away for to day to say it's a change. But
I'll say the same all a.

Speaker 14 (48:50):
Way and then a.

Speaker 5 (48:54):
Chime.

Speaker 25 (48:54):
If I'm Chinese, I got to live it for a time.

Speaker 19 (48:59):
I shot you're around here, I'm gonna tell.

Speaker 17 (49:03):
The good If its sounding clear.

Speaker 19 (49:06):
I'm doing what I want.

Speaker 5 (49:07):
I'm saying it.

Speaker 17 (49:08):
Why a guy, It's I'm just like a nosing.

Speaker 19 (49:11):
I'm never got a new scene. I'm aa call the.

Speaker 5 (49:14):
Shop out here. I'm gonna tell it.

Speaker 19 (49:18):
I need to feel clear.

Speaker 13 (49:20):
I'm playing.

Speaker 5 (49:22):
I see what I do. If I was you, I'd up.

Speaker 35 (49:30):
I used to think I was the problem until I
signed to close up. And although we started the possums.

Speaker 17 (49:42):
I used to sit away for the day.

Speaker 19 (49:44):
It sings to change, but then I'll say the same.

Speaker 35 (49:47):
I was living my brain and then I'm realized I
was running a child. If I'm chie sas, I've got,
I live it for i'm aa call the child and
around here, I'm it's clear.

Speaker 19 (50:03):
I said it was like you.

Speaker 5 (50:06):
It's I sing here like you, and there I and

(50:35):
the still under store, the visions and religions.

Speaker 31 (56:50):
It really depressed at a time, and we were kind
of visualizing it right in the beginning of the song
in the back seat in my head spiraling down, which
is kind of when you know you're gonna have like
a depressive episode. You know you're gonna you know you're
getting you're gonna go through a really rough time. And

(57:11):
I can see that in that I'm gonna be fine
in the end, Like right, if I picture I'm going
straight and there's like a big steep way downhill and
then uphill, and I can see all the way in
the front of it that it's gonna go up again.
But I still have to go through the hard times
kind of. And so that is kind of where the

(57:33):
song begins starting itself. I'm gonna say because I was
I could see that I was spiraling down, and I
knew that I was gonna come up sometimes, but I
still kind of have to go through all of this chaos,
all of this turmoil that I feel like is just
following me, like I decided to like we're just like
a blame chaos. It's not my faul, it's just like

(57:54):
that chaos follows me around. But the song really is
about no when that thing will be fine, But that
doesn't make it better. I still have to go through it.
I still have to feel the feelings and I want
to heal, like I want to get there. I wish
I could just kip it, but I can't.

Speaker 9 (58:12):
All right, Well, we're gonna play the next song, Chaos,
so everybody out there, let's give it a listen on
Double Trouble Radio.

Speaker 17 (58:28):
On the back seat and.

Speaker 25 (58:30):
I spiling down already know where.

Speaker 35 (58:33):
I'm going, but I can't helping out and a note
in the end we help this again.

Speaker 25 (58:39):
Right now, there's a dark clown.

Speaker 35 (58:42):
I guess stuff kiss just sign love to see a
carter right in the middle of.

Speaker 13 (58:51):

Speaker 17 (58:58):
Yes, that's going to tell you.

Speaker 35 (59:03):
This.

Speaker 19 (59:04):
Shout it down.

Speaker 17 (59:05):
Listen out to hing. It's up to me to fix
it again.

Speaker 13 (59:12):
Us need a dome.

Speaker 35 (59:18):
But I'm okay, and I hope it will change. We're
gonna try to explain.

Speaker 36 (59:23):
I don't know what to say.

Speaker 35 (59:25):
I met I myself will not feeling well because I
know when I can't control him.

Speaker 17 (59:32):
I guess, so stuff is just my luck to be
God right in the middle.

Speaker 5 (59:40):
Joses, that's got to tell you.

Speaker 19 (59:53):
It's not shout to be down.

Speaker 17 (59:55):
Listen out to rout and it's up to me to
fix it again.

Speaker 35 (01:00:00):
Yes, take rat house feels fail.

Speaker 6 (01:00:15):
I guess.

Speaker 17 (01:00:16):
So when Jesse see points out.

Speaker 27 (01:00:19):
Feel jus, yes.

Speaker 17 (01:00:37):
Trust to it's such a lad as they say it again.

Speaker 10 (01:00:45):
Us all right. That was Chaos by Aur who just
released her new record, Play the Part October eighteenth, and
we're here with her talking to her, shooting the shit,
asking some questions. And that was an awesome song, and

(01:01:05):
thank you for giving us a little background on it
for everybody tuning live internationally. Sorry if you didn't hear
part of that interview, it'll be available on spot of Spotify, iHeartRadio,
all those fun things. The following day.

Speaker 9 (01:01:21):
We've gotten another track here in that I definitely would
like to listen to. This one is called tic tac Toe.
Could you tell us a little about that one?

Speaker 31 (01:01:33):
Yeah, so tic tac Toe actually touched my subjects of
being an immigrant and the stuff we were talking about earlier.

Speaker 6 (01:01:39):
Well, there you go this song.

Speaker 31 (01:01:41):
I wrote this one literally sobbing in my house, cleaning
out an apartment and just thinking of aut my parents
and all of the sacrifices that my parents have made
to be able to help me get anything in this life,
like be here literally be doing this right now, but

(01:02:03):
everything else that I've done. How we were super broke
growing up and my dad came to the US, and
a great to hear and worked in some money home,
so we had someone to beat, yeah, and so we
were able to go to school and all of that
good stuff. And he worked really really hard, left probably
three hours a night or three jobs for many many years.

(01:02:27):
And we talked on the phone every day. And back
then we didn't even have smartphones or webcams, none of
that good stuff. Yeah, but he called me every day
and talked to each one of us, like me and
my brothers one hour a day at least, and we
played imaginary Tic Tac Toe every single days.

Speaker 10 (01:02:50):
So everybody out there, I really hope that this conversation
inspires you, the listeners, you know, to realize and recognize
that these are things that people can do to try
to make something happen, and it looks like it worked
out for you. We're here live. We have the song
Tic Tac Toe by Ari live on Double Trouble Radio.

Speaker 19 (01:03:09):
US.

Speaker 35 (01:03:10):
Jes for sometimes say go away so they can give
their kids alive. They gotta be fart from their lives,
and it gets to be a lot when they are
working three jobs.

Speaker 25 (01:03:24):
And I es to be a brad, just wanted to
be near my tad.

Speaker 35 (01:03:29):
And still we play Tic Tactoe over the phone, you
will never show You're alone, an imaginary game, meant to
keep us saying, we play tic tac toe over the phone.

(01:03:53):
Here's our case for sometimes they gotta say so they
can give their kids alive. They gotta be a single
rise and it gets to be a lot when there's
just so much to be taught.

Speaker 17 (01:04:07):
They got teenagers and a nine to five.

Speaker 35 (01:04:11):
Too much sacrifice, and so we play tick tattoe over the.

Speaker 15 (01:04:19):
Your the first.

Speaker 35 (01:04:21):
Show you were alone and imaginary game.

Speaker 17 (01:04:28):
Then to keep us saying, we play tick tacktoe.

Speaker 35 (01:04:32):
Oh, Lord of top.

Speaker 6 (01:04:35):
Flack, okay out you cop rock you.

Speaker 17 (01:04:45):
But we're nobody good live again, It's okay, the lid
old bottle.

Speaker 10 (01:04:52):
Bottle black.

Speaker 35 (01:04:55):
We play tick tattoe over the phone, you will never
show You're alone, an imaginary game. Now it's just the same,
we play tic tacto Now that I'm gone.

Speaker 10 (01:05:19):

We're up in the heat of July with the sun
and the sky. I can't keep them up.

Speaker 9 (01:13:39):
It's time for our unsigned bands. Having a lot of
technical difficulties here tonight.

Speaker 10 (01:13:45):
Hey man, I was told by Ari that we might
be approaching mercury retrograde. But you know, if you believe
in that, I'm not really entirely sure if that's affecting
us right now. But we are here live in the
studio with a couple of minor difficulties, but we're here
about to do our unsigned band segment. So with dad said,
I'm gonna introduce to you guys the three acts that

(01:14:06):
I have for you guys this evening. We have Melanie
Penelope from North Carolina, who wrote and wrote, sang, and
played everything on this new track called Escape Me. I
was on the air before, but you guys probably didn't
hear it discussing how she submitted a song. I loved it,
and you could find her on the internet doing everything

(01:14:27):
from comedy to arranging her own music. And I'm looking
forward to playing that one for you guys. Following that,
we have a band from Ontario, Canada called the Stone Hands,
and the song I'm gonna play tonight is called the Grays.
Because I might be a bit of an alien Officionado myself.
These dudes write good music without today's saturated use of

(01:14:48):
computerized instruments, and their heaviest influences are from bands before
that time. After that, we have the song sneak Out
by the band called Onion Milk. They're a dancing emo
band from Chattanooga, Tennessee. And with that said, we're gonna
start this one off with Escape Me by Melanie Penelope

(01:15:10):
on Double Trouble Radio.

Speaker 6 (01:15:11):
Dig It.

Speaker 32 (01:49:29):
I watched.

Speaker 10 (01:49:31):
It was that bad. That's rough. You know what else
is bad?

Speaker 9 (01:49:35):
That other new one that just came out this weekend
with the Rock and Chris Evans, that one Red one.
Stuff like that needs to go straight to streaming services, right,
Oh yeah, is that what happened? No, it's out in
the theaters. And the review I actually watched half of
it last night because I couldn't tolerate that the review
in the New York Times was a two hundred and

(01:49:58):
fifty million dollar turd.

Speaker 10 (01:50:01):
Well, you know, the streaming services, all they have to
do is make it look like it's number one and
everybody will watch it. Well I did. We learned from
the fight this week, and these things don't work out.
This thingms don't work out the way they play.

Speaker 9 (01:50:13):
Oh my lord, Well, not only to mention that the
whole fight was staged. I mean, Mike needs money, but
that was atrocious. And another thing, who the fuck came
up at Rosie Perez.

Speaker 10 (01:50:26):
As an announcer. I mean's smoking.

Speaker 9 (01:50:30):
I know weed's legal these days, but who the fuck
is there saying you're going to be a really great
for an announcer. Let's got well for catch? Holy shit,
what the fuck is that all about? I don't know, man, dude.
That was a true and then a vand the holy
field was more like Stevie Wonder the guy didn't even

(01:50:52):
know where the fuck he was.

Speaker 10 (01:50:54):
And Cedric the entertainer was.

Speaker 44 (01:50:56):
Wearing this hat that looked like the garbage can in
the last hotel room I was in.

Speaker 9 (01:51:03):
It looked like like like the garbage can in the bathroom.

Speaker 10 (01:51:06):
You make me want to like to watch the recap.
Oh my lord, that was so fucking bad. I can't
even put him into words.

Speaker 9 (01:51:13):
Anyway, Let's stop talking and let's play some clash on
double troubles.

We just song was a new song by Lincoln Park
and it's a song that highlights their new singer Emily Arms.
Songs without Mike doing any rapping or singing really in
the background, and that song was called over each other.

Speaker 9 (02:03:11):
Before that, we also had new music from Life of
Agony with the Crow in memory of b l and.

Speaker 10 (02:03:19):
Mind you were just promoting Life of Agony, not the
Crow movie.

Speaker 9 (02:03:21):
Yeah, the movie was really atrocious. We had a classic
track with the clash doing Police on Police on my back.

That show, yeah, that was a good one. We had
our unsigned bands and again thank them all for submitting music.

Right here. We had before that, we had a new
song by Lady Gaga with the song Disease, which I
really happened to like that song, and I had to
throw it in given the fact that we had a
pop artist in the studio tonight.

Speaker 9 (02:03:56):
Well on the air it sounded like Marilyn Manson. I'm
telling you, man like you could put him on that
track and it would make sense perfect.

Speaker 10 (02:04:03):
Before that, we.

Speaker 9 (02:04:04):
Had Wednesday thirteen with Bad Things.

Speaker 10 (02:04:08):

a reason.

Speaker 9 (02:04:18):
You had the Dope Show and we started off tonight
with the Red Hot Chili Peppers from the Warped album
which featured Dave Navarro from Jane's Addiction on guitar and
actually it's the one hot minute album song we played.
