(04:28):
boosting smoothie swamp if you skip the sugar bomb in
the mornings and you blend spinach blueberries MCT oil that's
MCT oil in chia seeds. A Frontiers and Aging Neuroscience
trial showed that this combo improves memory recalling adults by
eighteen percent in just four weeks, so bottom's up to that.

(04:49):
In Another quick hack is the desk detox move Every
hour do thirty seconds of caf raises or shoulder rolls.
New data from the British Journal Sports Medicine proves micro
movements slash sedentary damage in boost circulation better than marathon
gym sessions. So micro movements at your desk, you can

(05:10):
do it, all right, folks. This is also why today's
show matters more than ever. Every question you ask doesn't
just help you, it might unlock the answer someone else
has been praying for. That mom that's battling brain fog,
your call could light her path, or that guy that's
confused about cholesterol myths, your voice might save his arteries.

(05:34):
This is grassroots healthcare at its finest. So as we
queue up the calls today, remember wellness isn't about perfection.
It's progress that's stacked one smart choice at a time.
Your body, it's your lifelong home. Renovate it with care,
So let's fuel it with some truth and tactical fixes.

(05:56):
Whether your first time caller or you're a season well
this listener to the show We want to hear from you.
Your story belongs here. Give us a call eight hundred
six or O six eight eight two to two. All right,
doctor Bob, let's go. First up, we have Jim from Franklin,
North Carolina.

Speaker 5 (06:14):
Thank you so much for your program and for your help.
This is Jim in Western North Carolina, Franklin, North Carolina.
And my health related question is I think I'm dealing
with a lot of inflammation. I've had PRP about ten

(06:36):
years ago, which is a skin roseatia problem inflammation. I
still have it to a degree. I still have a
little bit of skin shedding, but especially on my scalpe.
That's what really is really bugging me. So I just
my question basically boils down to how do I get

(06:57):
rid of this inflammation. I have adjusted my diet. I
just don't know what to do. So Jimmy, whatever however
you're gonna interact with me, it would be great. Thank you.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
All right, thanks for your call, Jim. I appreciate you
sharing your concerns about chronic inflammation, especially given your history
with PRP. And I don't want this to confuse with
the the regenda medicine PRP that I talk about often
on the show. That's platelet rich plasma. That's an injection.
That's Regenda medicine to help with conditions like arthritis and

(07:35):
other other things. This this is PRP that deals with
chronic inflammation and it's PRP is pity resiasis ruba polaris
and it's an ongoing skin issue and it can contribute
to things like shedding and scalp problems. So Jim, with
this chronic inflammation, it's it can be challenging to manage,

(07:56):
in particular when it manifests in the skin. Since you've
already made some of those dietary adjustments, let's explore some
additional strategies to see if we can reduce some of
that inflammation. Well, you mentioned about the dietary changes. I
want to include talk to about talking about focusing on
anti inflammatory diet. And when I'm talking about this, I'm

(08:18):
talking about the fruits and vegetables. Aim for a variety
of fruits and vegetables that are rich in those antioxidants
like berries, the leafy greens and vegetables like broccoli which
helps with that oxidative stress. And also to incorporate the
healthy fats, those omega three fatty acids I talk about
often those ones that are found in fatty fish like salmon, walnuts,

(08:39):
flax seeds, chia seeds. These fats have been shown to
reduce the markers of inflammation. And also consider choosing whole
grains over refined carbohydrates. So the options here would be
like kino or brown rice. Those are excellent choices. Go
ahead and flavor your food with spots and nerves like

(09:00):
tumeric that contains percuman that's a powerful anti inflammatory compound,
and also ginger can provide relief from inflammatory conditions. As
far as adjusting your skin care, I think that's going
to be important for you to opt for gentle cleanse
cleansers without harsh chemicals or fragrances that might irritate the skin.
So if you're looking into moisturizers, look for ingredients like

(09:24):
hyaluronic acid or seramides that can help retain that moisture
ensued those irritated areas. You may also consider it might
be beneficial for you to consult with a dermatologist who
specializes in inflammatory skin conditions if you haven't done so already,
And also look at look for your at your local

(09:46):
health food store. They may be able to give you
some answers and insights for that, So Jim, to summarize this,
managing that chronic inflammation often requires a multifaceted approach, involving
the diet tary changes you mentioned, combining with lifestyle modifications
that focus on hydration and exercise routines even that are

(10:08):
tailored towards individual capabilities. So I hope you're gonna use
some of these suggestions as you navigate through this journey
towards improved health in this skin condition with with PRP.
All Right, Jim and folks, we're coming up on a
break and I want you to go ahead and call

(10:28):
us with your questions. It's eight hundred six zero six

If you're a big sports fan like me, sometimes the
best part about watching a football game are the pre
and post game shows. Well, it's the same for probiotics.
The most important part of probiotics are the prebiotics and
post biotics that come along. Not all probiotics have this
superior combination. That's why I only buy Doctor o'heres probiotics.
You see, prebiotics feed the probiotic colonies and your intestines,

(11:23):
and post biotics are the organic nutrients produced by doctor
o'heres three year fermentation process that become the foundation for
long term colonization of the good bacteria in your body.
This is so important. No other probiotic formula has this.
As I get older, I want to protect my health
the best I can and use only the best supplements
that are available. So score a touchdown for your health.

(13:11):
we're here to help you every step of the way.
All Right, we're gonna get to your caller questions in
just a second, but I want to go ahead with
a health alternative of the week. This week's health alternative,

(13:38):
we're talking about methyl full late. That's the active form
of full late, which is vitamin B nine, and it's
a powerful health alternative that supports numerous body functions, from
anything from DNA synthesis to mood regulation. And this week
we're going to dive into why methyl full eight is
a game changer for health, especially for those with specific

(14:00):
Z gene mutations like MTFR, which can impair that folate metabolism.
Methyl Folate is crucial for DNA repair and cell division.
It's essential for the producing and maintaining all new cells.
It also supports the production of serotonin, dopamine, and nourepinephrin,

(14:21):
which are vital for mental health in mood regulation, and
methyl folate also helps to lower homocysteine levels, which reduce
the risk of heart disease. If we're talking about pregnancy,
it's critical for fetal development, in particular in preventing neural
tube defects. So we're asking if you could benefit from
it individuals with that mutation, that MTHFR mutation, that's a

(14:47):
genetic variation that can make it difficult to convert folic
acid into its active form, making methyl folate vitamin B
nine a superior alternative. Also those that are on blood thinners.
Methyl fold is a safe option for those as it
can't it doesn't really interfere with a medication like folic

(15:07):
acid might, and for those that are looking to avoid pharmaceuticals,
methyl folate offers a natural way to support overall health.
If you're looking for food sources to incorporate methyl fol
late vitamin B nine, look at leafy greens in legumes,
and if you want to try to supplement it, it's

(15:28):
available in various forms, including capsules in sublingual tablets. I
also want to say to consult with a healthcare provider
before changing up any medication or dosage of medication. So
methofolate is a cornerstone of natural health, especially for those
with that genetic predisposition that may affect the full late metabolism.

(15:50):
It's a prime example of how targeted nutrition can address
specific health needs without resorting to those pharmaceuticals. Methyl Folate
vitamin B nine is not only a powerhouse for general health,
but it also shows promising benefits for individuals with autism
and ADHD. So I do want to make mention and
explore that for just a second. So it supports that

(16:13):
neurotransmitter production metho folate. It aids in the synthesis of serotonin, dopamine,
and orepern effron, which we mentioned, but it's often that's
imbalanced in individuals with autism. It reduces that oxidative stress
which is linked to autism, and then it also can
help Studies have been shown that methyl folate supplementation can
lead to improvements in communication, social interaction in those repetitive

(16:37):
type of behaviors. So methol folate is a natural, effective
way to support brain health and managed symptoms of autism
and ADHD. For those with the mtfr mutation, it's especially
critical as it bypasses the impaired conversion process of that
folic acid, which again, if you're taking a prescription folic acid,

(16:58):
it may only be absorbed in up to like forty
percent of Americans. So always consult with the healthcare provider
to determine the right dosage in the form that you need.
Methyl foll light the health alternative other week, and I
encourage you to explore how it can support brain health
and well billion and also for those with individuals with
autism and ADHD, Doctor Bob.

Speaker 4 (17:19):
Yeah, we're really talking about vitamin B nine. Most people
they wait a minute, B nine. I've heard of B
one and two and three and five and twelve and nine.
I didn't know nine. Well nine is out there. That's
what foll light is that's in a critically important vitamin
for your nervous system, your hormone system, so many different

(17:40):
processes within the human body. And when you go to
find it in the food supply, try to find it
in its organic form, because when you're eating green leafy vegetables,
you certainly don't want pesticides sprays on those vegetables if
you can avoid it. So green leafy veis, bowls, asparagus, broccoli,

(18:02):
brussel sprouts, legomes, lentils, they all are high in folate.
Vitamin B nine. BE nine is incredibly important for the
human body. We don't get enough of it, and as
doctor Brockmann pointed out, about forty to sixty percent of
humans have this gene mutation called MTHR and it is

(18:28):
a mutation by which we do not convert the folate
or the fullic acid when you take it in a
synthetic form. We don't recommend the synthetic form of supplement. Unfortunately,
when you're taking a commercial B complex, you're going to
find that the synthetic form of folate is in there

(18:49):
fullic acid. If you happen to be one of these
people who have this gene mutation, you're not going to
convert it, and that becomes almost toxic to your body.
It's critical to the man management of homocysteine, which doctor
Brockman mentioned in homocysteine when it elevates due to B nine.
Vitamin B nine deficiency increases your risk of heart attack

(19:10):
and Alzheimer's disease, and stroke and cognitive impairment. The list
goes on and on, so it is a critical thing.
I'm glad you pointed it out this week, doctor Brockman,
in the Health Alternative of the week. People can find
the vegetables that they need that are organic at all
natural grocer stores nationwide, or they can find it in

(19:32):
some form of supplemental form in a vitamin A methylated
form of fully fol eight or vitamin B twelve or
any of the other vitamins, so that the body is
able to consistently absorb and assimilate it so it doesn't
become just expensive urine.

Speaker 3 (19:50):
Absolutely, doctor Bob. And it is important to get those
organic fruits and vegetable sources. If you think of a
foll light, think of foliage foll light. Getting that vitamin
B nine. All right, let's see if we can get
to a call caller before the break. Here from Kelly
in great Falls, Montana.

Speaker 8 (20:07):
I am calling because the show that's on tonight with
Sunday August twenty fourth, was talking about Pats and I
have a five and a half year old Corgi that
nose has turned from black to red. It's scaly. It
started off scaly, now it's just very pink, looks really raw.

(20:31):
I was told it was a sunburn, but we've tried
other things and nothing's working, so I'm just not sure
what I can do for her.

Speaker 3 (20:39):
All right, Kelly, Well, thanks for your call, and we
just again just answered a question similar but on humans
with skin conditions, and it's and again we're going to
take it to that chronic inflammation's status in the body.
But when a dog's nose goes from black to red
and it's scaly and it's now pink and raw, it's

(21:00):
that's sign that the skin is under stress. Sometimes it's
sun related, but if the treatments you've tried haven't worked,
there could be other factors like that immune system, allergies,
or even infection. First thing, protect the nose from further
sun exposure and avoid harsh products, so general natural bombs
made for pets may help sue that tissue. And make
sure your pet's diet is rich in omega three, so

(21:22):
you may look for a food source that has salmon
in it because that plays a big role in reducing
inflammation supporting skin health. I also give my dogs probiotics,
in particular doctor Ohiras probiotics, So Kelly, it's really important
to have a venarian also check for autoimmune causes. That
way you'll know exactly what you're dealing with. You're doing
the right thing seeking answers for your pups. And go

(21:45):
back and listen to that episode that was with Larry
Logs and the Tahiti Traders talking about nony juice with animals.
You're listening to The Doctor Bob Martin Show.

Speaker 9 (21:56):
Any mistakes, but everybody's got of choice to make.

Speaker 3 (22:02):
Everybody needs a leave of faith. When are you taking
yours money in funds? Welcome back, Doctor Adam Brockman here
as we return to The Doctor Bob Martin Show, America's
number one health talk radio program. Before we jump back
in today's conversation, I want to remind you that your
wellness journey continues even when we're off air. First, our

(22:25):
physician team is always available at eight hundred six zero
six eight eight two to two for your health questions.
That's eight hundred six zero six eight eight two two second.
Don't forget. You can access our entire podcast library anytime
at doctor bob dot com. We listen to your favorite episodes,
catch up on shows you've missed or discovered new health insights,

(22:46):
all available twenty four to seven at doctor bob dot com.
Spawn out the word doctor doctr bob dot com. All right,
we're coming up on our health outrage. But first, doctor Bob,
I want to talk about something most people drink, and
that's the dentist's chair. That moment when they peer into
your mouth and you're praying they don't say you've got

(23:08):
a cavity. We need to talk. Well, here's my not
so secret weapon spray dental defense system. This is what
my entire clinic team, my family, Doctor Bob and his
family and yes, even my dental hygienist used to keep
our mouths in check. Here's the game changer for spry.

(23:28):
It's xylatol. It's a plant based powerhouse that isn't just sweet.
It's a full on dental bodyguard. It fights cavities and
knocks out plaque, and it kicks bad breath to the curb.
And Spry packs it with every product, their toothpaste, their
mouth rents. The gum in the mints. It flavors like peppermint, cinnamon,

(23:50):
and spearmint, all the flavors you love, with none of
the guilt. So if you want to know my routine,
I brush with Spry toothpaste, I rinse with Spry mouth wash,
and I pop a piece of Spry gum after meals.
It's like having a dental hygienis in your back pocket.
And the best part, no drastic habit changes are needed.

(24:11):
You just swap what you're already using for Spry and
let the xylotol work its magic. So imagine your dentis
leaning back and saying, whatever you're doing, keep doing it. That,
my friends, is the Spry effect, and you'll find it
at CVS, right aid, target sprouts, in all natural grocers,
pretty much anywhere good oral care lives. If you want

(24:34):
to know more, head over to Clear dot com. That's
spelled x L e R dot com. Those are the
same geniuses behind Clear nasal sprays, which by the way,
also belong in your wellness toolkit. So bottom line, if
you want a mouth that's as healthy as it is fresh,
it's time to go spry your teeth in your dental hygienist. Well,

(24:55):
thank you, all right, doctor Bob. Let's get to our
health outrage of the week.

Speaker 9 (25:07):
Eat for the Hill outrage, because it's nothing.

Speaker 3 (25:11):
But doctor Bob, this health outrage that just makes makes
you mad. In a bizarre twist of health activism, pregnant
women across the nation nation, they're chugging Thailand all a
state of metaphine in mockery of President Trump's policies. While

(25:31):
the act is intended as a protest, it raises some
serious concerns about the safety implications of this behavior, both
for the mothers in their unborn children. This is both
outrageous and maddening. Social media has been flooded with videos
of pregnant women downing Thailand, all accompanied by hashtags like

(25:53):
hashtag Thailand, al Trump and hashtag mommy protest this stunt.
It's meant to a highlight frustrations with health care policies,
but it's sparking a heated debate about the risk of
self medication during pregnancy. As a matter of fact, there
are a few stories of women being placed in ic
US from overdosing on Thailand al I even saw one

(26:15):
story where a baby was born at twenty five weeks
because of the overdose with her mother in the ICU.
This is simply outrageous and Thailand, all while in the past,
has been considered safe for pregnant women. President Trump in
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Junior, they
announced that there will be a warning label for use

(26:38):
during pregnancy. The recent studies have linked excessive a seat
of menafine use during the pregnancy to potential the developmental
issues in children, including ADHD and autism. The FDA has
issued warnings about overuse, emphasizing that safe does not mean
risk free. These protests. The message this calling attention to

(27:02):
health care concerns is it's overshadowed by the dangerous normalization
of these reckless behaviors, especially on TikTok. Instead of advocating
for better prenatal care or access to natural health alternatives
these women, they're promoting a harmful narrative and that's that
self medication is a valid form of protest. I urge

(27:24):
pregnant women to prioritize their health in their babies well
being above all. Else they are safer, more effective ways
to advocate for change, ways that don't involve compromising your
health or your babies. Consider natural alternatives like chiropractic care
or acupuncture, herbal remedies under professional guidance during pregnancy, maybe

(27:46):
even mindfulness practices to manage the pain and stress during
that pregnancy. So let's shift this conversation from protests to prevention.
Advocate for policies that support holistic prenatal care, which is
happening at the government level, including more access to natural medicine, doctors, nutritionists,

(28:07):
and this regard mental health professionals. Educate yourself and others
about the risk of over the counter medications and the
benefits of natural health solutions. And while this Thailand all
protests may grab the headlines, it's a reminder of the
need for better education and resources for pregnant women. And
maybe we should take away social media from a few

(28:28):
of these women. While this is very maddening, let's turn
this outrage into an opportunity to promote healthier, safer choices
for mothers in their babies.

Speaker 4 (28:38):
Doctor Bob, it's so outrageous. This is a health outrage
maybe of the year. You wonder how we got here,
and it really has to do with the orientation that
most Americans have. We're only what the second. There's two
countries that allow drug commercials on television, the United States
and I think New Zealand. And after you see a

(29:00):
zillion commercials a day that say, you know, don't cope,
just take dope and relief us a swallow away, it
sort of becomes grilled into your brain and everybody thinks
it's normal to take drugs all day long.

Speaker 9 (29:14):
It's not.

Speaker 4 (29:15):
And I wonder, you know, this is like how many
of these influencers are paid to do this by who knows?
Maybe drug companies are paying these influencers to maybe fake
the drinking of liquid tile andol so that it becomes
more normalized. Again, why mock the findings, Why mock the

(29:37):
messaging that they're trying to get out That tailanol is
poison to begin with, but it's more poisonous to a
fetus who cannot defend themselves from the mother taking the substance.
In my opinion, Doctor Brocklan, this is no different than
a woman smoking cigarettes while pregnant it is flat out
child abuse period.

Speaker 3 (29:59):
Yeah, yeah, and it is a shame. And you're exactly right.
And we have two countries, the United States and New
Zealand that are the only ones that allow these drug commercials.
But again, President Trump made an announcement recently about the
drug ads and that he's taking away that you have
to put equal playing time to the risk as you

(30:21):
do the benefits of these drugs. So again, I think
that's an important thing to note here. Maybe we are
slowly but surely making those changes. So all right, folks,
we got just a little bit left in the show,
and we still welcome your calls. Doll are toll free

back into today's conversation. And uh in, folks, we just
got a little bit of summer left. But I do
want to give you this product recall, all right. This

(35:31):
week's product recall is a Johnsonville Cheddar Broughtwurst alert. All right,
doctor Bob, I know you're a big fan of process meet,
so I want you to hold on to your grill
tom not, folks, Johnsonville just recalled over twenty two thousand
pounds of their Cheddar brought worst. That's due to potential

(35:53):
plastic contamination. All right, that's right. The favorite barbecue staple
might come with some unwanted sides of crunchy surprises. The
USDA flagged these sausages after discovering they could contain hard
plastic pieces. That's a choking hazard in a surefire way
to run that backyard barbecue. The effective batches have used

(36:16):
by dates between September fifteenth and October tenth of twenty
twenty five. So check your freezer for fourteen ounce packages
with these dates and don't eat them, toss them, or
return them for a full refund. This isn't just a
minor oopsie. It's a Class one recall, meaning the USDA

(36:38):
considers it a serious health risk. Plastic in your brought worst,
that's a no for me. For the full scoop, visit
the USDA's recall site at usa DA dot gov. Let's
just stay safe and grill smart the rest of this
grilling season, all right, doctor Bob, We only got a

(36:59):
few minutes of the show left. But I want to
make mention of a word that President Trump dropped recently.
I think it was actually uh, it was just this
week he was talking about med beds and uh. And
for those that seeing that, he dropped it in any
and then he took it away, and I think he's

(37:19):
I think he's teasing big farm out there maybe, But
these these med beeds, I want to I want to
describe that because again the critics went out there and
they said, oh, that's that's futuristic, that's something that's not
here talking about regenerating limbs in a matter of minutes,
and these type of things. No med beds there. I
would say again, well, we'll put in this alternative therapy category,

(37:42):
although again I don't like this word alternative. These are
these are things we've had in my practice for years,
and these are things that aim to promote healing and
wellness through non invasive methods. So what we're talking about
here are things like electromagnetic field therapy where the therapy
uses electromagnetic fields to stimulate cellular repair regeneration. Also, red

(38:06):
light therapy or light therapy are known as phototherapy, whatever
you want to use here, and it has specific wavelengths
of light to treat various conditions. Very effective. We're talking
about frequency therapy, We're talking about oxygen therapy, you know,
hyperbaric chambers, all these things. So med beds is on
these type of lines. I'll even go ahead and consider

(38:28):
something that I've had in practice for probably a dozen
years or more, which is a hydro massage bed. After
a treatment, we like to have patients lay on those
for about ten or fifteen minutes to just get their
bodies to relax and let everything reset. This is what
we're talking about, and this is where we're at with
healthcare now.

Speaker 4 (38:45):
Doctor Bob, Well, if you can't sell the pharmaceutical, you'll
be attacked. You know, if you're telling people that they
can actually get healthy without swallowing a poison of some sort,
some petrochemical that has seven the average seventy average side
effects to it, and you can actually give them something

(39:05):
that has been well studied, safe and effective, has its
science based, such as electromagnetism photoluminescence using red light, which
is what used in medicine for lasers today. It's just
on a little different frequency process and using other modalities
to help right the body, to help reduce some of

(39:29):
the interference that that body is having writing itself. If
you can sort of nudge the body gently without doing chemicals.
This goes completely against the whole medical model of taking
dope and taking drugs all day long to treat symptoms
and not causes. So of course people are going to
look at this as being foreign, even though you and

(39:49):
I and other practitioners like us have been using it
for years and benefiting thousands and thousands of patients.

Speaker 3 (39:56):
Yeah, yeah, it's a great thing. And again it's more
awareness all the time. So there you go, President Trump,
he dropped the word medbed and now we are gonna
gonna discuss it some more. So maybe one of the
future episodes, we're gonna talk about it. All right, listeners,
time for a quick break, But the health conversation doesn't

Welcome back, Dr Adam Brockman here as we return to
the Doctor Bob Martin Show and we've hit our final stretch,
which means it's time for our health mystery of the week.
All right, folks, Our health mystery of the week is
the hidden dangers of Facebook sperm donation. We should meet Laura.

(43:45):
She's a thirty three year old single mother that's turned
to Facebook and desperation to fulfill her dream of expanding
her family. What seemed like a modern solution to motherhood
quickly unraveled into a discovery about her son's health. And
that's the risk of unregulated sperm donation. Laura's son was
conceived using sperm from a donor she met in a

(44:08):
Facebook group. While he was born healthy, he later exhibited
severe developmental delays, including being nonverbal and displaying traits that
were consistent with autism. Shockingly, Laura discovered that other children
fathered by the same donor shared these similar divergent traits.
So the key questions here did the donor withhold critical

(44:31):
genetic or medical information, Could undisclosed neurodivergent conditions in the
donor explain her son's challenges, or could it be from
something else? Like we talked about today, what legal and
ethical gaps exist in unregulated sperm donation. So, folks, she

(44:52):
gives us warning. I wouldn't want to be without him,
but I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. Talking about the
Facebook sperm on it. She also goes on to say,
you don't know what you're getting into. Her story highlights
the dangers of bypassing regulated fertility services for convenience or
cost savings, and while Laura's case may be incidental, it

(45:15):
underscores a broader concern. The rise of do it yourself
fertility solutions poses uncharted risk for children's long term health,
and these neurodivergent traits can have a complex route here,
and not only in possibly the genes, but these multifaceted

(45:36):
that we've been talking about for quite some time with autism,
making donor screening critical in these informed decisions. Laura's journey
is a cautionary tale about the unintended consequences of modern
fertility workarounds here as she also has a fundraise for
her son's specialized care, and it begs the question how

(45:58):
far would you go for parenthood and at what cost?
Doctor Bob.

Speaker 4 (46:06):
Yeah, it's somewhat of a mystery. Whenever you deal with
genetic factors and this sort of thing, it's really hard
to tease away what the cause is, what the underlying
mechanism is. And I think from that perspective it will
probably remain a health mystery.

Speaker 3 (46:23):
Yeah, and again, I think the cautionary tale here is
avoid Facebook sperm donation groups. So until next time, folks,
keep trusting your body, questioning the noise in owning your
health journey. This is doctor Adam Brockman for Doctor Bob
Martin reminded you the best healthcare isn't just in clinics,

(46:43):
it's in conversations like these. This is the Doctor Bob
Martin Show.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
