debunking biohacking myths, and yes, the health alternative of the week,
the health outrage, the product recall in the health mystery
in this hour, Let's make today the day your health

(03:18):
journey levels up with no passport required. So, as most
of the country as going through this heat wave right now,
I want to tell you about surviving the scorch and
maybe give you a guide to these heat related illnesses
because we need to know about this. And as these
temperatures they're skyrocketing across the country, heat related illnesses are

(03:42):
becoming a silent but deadly threat. From Phoenix to Chicago
to Seattle. Record breaking heat waves are sending over sixty
five thousand Americans to the er annually, many of whom
don't recognize the danger until it's too late. Break down
the critical stages of heat related illnesses, how to spot them,

(04:05):
in actionable steps and strategies to stay safe. First off,
we want to talk about heat cramps. They're the first
body They're your body's initial cry for help. These painful
muscle spasms, often striking during outdoor activities like gardening or sports,
occur when these excessive sweating depletes the electrolytes in your body.

(04:28):
Imagine mowing the lawn and suddenly feeling your calf has
seized up like a rusty spring. To respond, you need
to stop that activity immediately, sip some water, maybe put
a pinch of salt, or you might even need a
sports drink, and gently stretch that Effective calve prevention is

(04:49):
the key. If you snack on potassium rich foods like
bananas or avocados before heading out doors, that would help
in prioritize the electrolyte balance there. Heat exhaustion is a
tipping point and that's the next step here. And if
it's ignored, heat cramps can escalate to heat exhaustion. Symptoms

(05:10):
include dizziness, nausea, cold, clammy skin, and maybe a rapid pulse.
Take Maria for instance, a sixty eight year old gardener
who nearly collapsed from dizziness before her daughter intervened. At
this stage, you need to act fast. Move to shade
or air conditioning, loosen clothing, maybe apply cool compresses in

(05:33):
sip water slowly. Vomiting can occur here, and if that
does occur, seek medical help immediately. A critical myth here
to debunk is no sweat in this extreme heat isn't
a sign of relief. It's a red flag that your
body's cooling system is failing, which can lead to heat stroke,
which is a deadly emergency. Heat stroke is life threatening

(05:57):
crisis where body temperatures soar above one hundred and four
degrees fahrenheit. It causes organ failure, confusion, or even seizures.
Comes in two forms, the classic form, which affects the
elderly or chronically ill during heat waves, and then those
that do it through exertion, like athletes or laborers. The

(06:18):
symptoms here include hot, dry skin or heavy, heavy sweating.
You can even have slurred speech and a loss of
consciousness every second councl if it gets that far, that's
a call for nine to one month, and immediately cool
the person rapidly with ice packs on the neck or
maybe the lower body area of the groin area, or

(06:40):
if you can get into a cold bath that would
help too. And never offer fluids if they're unconscious. You
can risk drowning with a thirty percent fatality rate if untreated.
For these heat strokes, hesitation is not an option. But
I also want you to know about some prevention measures
and how to smart the heat. Hydration is your first

(07:03):
line of defense. Talk about signs of dehydration. You might
be surprised to learn that it can manifest in some
pretty sneaky ways. Here's the big three.

Speaker 4 (07:15):
Like.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
Number one is dark urine. If your p looks like
a cup of strong coffee, it's time to hydrate. Ideally,
you want to be like a light straw color. Think
of it as the difference between a refreshing lemonade and
a cup of burnt espresso. Big difference there. Number two
is dry mouth. If your mouth feels like the Sahara desert,

(07:39):
you're likely in need of some H two O. If
you're trying to talk in your tongue feels like a sandpaper,
it's time to reach for that water bottle. And then
the third one is fatigue. If you feel like a
sloth on a Sunday. Dehydration is zapping you, and it
can zap your energy fast. When you're low on fluids,
your body has to work harder and that can leave

(08:01):
you feeling sluggish and worn out. Now why does dehydration
hit us so hard? Well, our bodies they're made up
of sixty percent water. We're basically a walking water balloon.
When we lose fluids through sweat, urine, or even breathing,
we need to replenish them to keep everything running smoothly.

(08:23):
When you're dehydrated, your blood volume decreases, which means your
heart has to pump harder to get that oxygen to
your muscles and your organs. It's like trying to run
a marathon with a flat tire. It's just not gonna happen.
So the fix here? What is it? The answer is simple,
drink water before you feel thirsty. Thirst is your body's

(08:47):
way of saying, hey, I'm already running low. So let's
make it a habit to sip water throughout the day.
Keep a water bottle handy, and if you're sweating heavily,
like during a workout or on a hot summer day,
consider adding electrolytes to your water. Think of electrolytes as

(09:07):
superheroes of hydration. They keep balance fluids in your body
and they keep your muscles functioning properly. You wouldn't want
to run out of gas on a road trip, right,
so don't run out of electrolytes during your workout. Electrolytes.
There's a few options here. The sports drinks. Of course,
you think a Gatorade power aid. They can be great,
but watch you out for the added sugars. You don't

(09:30):
want to trade one problem for another. And then we
have coconut water. It's nature's sports drink. It's hydrating and
packed with potassium. I recommend that if you need some
extra help, if you're outside, if you're an athlete, if
you're a labor electrolyte tablets are good. You just drop
one in your water bottle and you're good to go.

(09:52):
I also want to suggest a homemade electrolyte drink. If
you mix water, pinch of salt, and a splash of
lemon juice, you've got a refreshing drink and it keeps
you hydrated without the added sugars. And here's a fun fact.
Did you know that when you're dehydrated, your brain can shrink.
That's right. It's like your brain is trying to save

(10:13):
water by going on a diet. But trust me, you
don't want to shrink ray your brain. And if you
stay ahead of hydration by drinking water regularly, especially if
you're active or it's hot outside, you can keep an
eye on those signs like dark urine, dry mouth, and fatigue,
and don't forget to add those electrolytes when needed. So

(10:35):
we're coming up on a break, and before we pause,
I want to remind you if you got those health
related questions, go ahead and dial us at eight hundred
and six zero six, eight eighty two to two. It's
the Doctor Bob Martin call in Hotline. We're gonna here
to tackle your questions. We're gonna come up on a
few questions and we come back. We're gonna wrap this
up with the dehydration. You're listening to the Doctor Bob

(10:57):
Martin Show, and you said.

Speaker 5 (11:01):
Sunday out of the chambers to them, like you a guy,
doctor Pugle, what you give and you got eternity to
think about what you do with it? What did you
do it? What did I do with.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
What?

Speaker 6 (11:24):
What I.

Speaker 5 (11:28):
Got.

Speaker 3 (11:30):
Welcome back Health Champions. Doctor Adam Brockman here, your co
host on The Doctor Bob Martin Show. Before we jump
back into our discussion on dehydration, let's grow our health tribe.
Follow us on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook, and we even
have a YouTube channel. You just got to search for
The Doctor Bob Martin Show. We'll give you tips, questions

(11:51):
and meme worthy motivation and if you've got a success
story tag us, we want to give you a shout out. Together,
we're rewriting the script on wellness. Who's ready to explore
their health further? Okay, I want to give a final
word on on heat exhaustion, heat strokes and how we
can avoid this. Heat doesn't play fair, but you can

(12:14):
fight back with this. Remember you got a cool first,
and then transport second and heat stroke emergencies and treat
hydration like it's a non negotiable daily ritual. I want
you to also share this knowledge. It could save a life.
And while the sun might be relentless right now, your
preparedness doesn't have to be complicated. As the old joke goes,

(12:35):
why did the sun go to school to get brighter?
I want you to stay informed, stay cool, and prioritize
safety over that extra hour in the sun. Is it
really necessary? Your health is worth far more than a
perfectly mode lawn or a personal best workout. Let's make
this summer safe, smart, and scorch savvy. All right, We're

(12:57):
going to go ahead and get to our health alternative
the week, doctor Adam. Here in today's health alternative the

(13:22):
Week is all about ditching the artificial and embracing nature's
ultimate thirst quencher. It's coconut water. Let's face it, Hydration
doesn't have to come in a neon bottle loaded with sugar.
Coconut water has been hydrating tropical communities for centuries, and
modern science is finally catching up. Here's why you should

(13:44):
swap your sports drink for this liquid gold. First off,
coconut water is an electrolyte powerhouse. It's packed with more
potassium than a banana, plus magnesium, calcium, and sodium that
makes it perfect for a post workout recovery or a
day in the sun. A fun fact here is its
electrolyte balance is so similar to human blood plasma that

(14:07):
your body absorbs it like a sponge. Unlike many sports
drinks that sneak in twenty to thirty grams of sugar
per serving. Unsweetened coconut water has just five to ten
grams of natural sugars, no artificial dyes, no weird sweeteners.
It's just pure, clean hydration. Coconut water is loaded with

(14:30):
antioxidants that fight inflammation in oxidative stress. Studies even suggest
it could prevent kidney stones by flushing out the toxins.
Plus its natural enzymes can help soothe an upset stomach.
It's ideal after a big meal or a long flight.
So when should you reach for it after a sweaty

(14:52):
workout to recharge faster than plain water as a morning
pick me up instead of sugary juices, or on road
trips or flights to beat travel dehydration, and yes, even
as a hangover helper. Your body will thank you. Here's
a tip. Look for raw, unsweetened and unpasteurized brands like

(15:16):
Harmless Harvest or Vita Cocoa Pure. Skip anything with added
sugars or flavors. If you want to get fancy blended
with frozen berries for a hydrating smoothie, or adlme and
mint for a tropical mocktail. And just remember, while it's
a superstar, moderation matters, stick to just about one to

(15:38):
two cups a day unless you're an athlete or sweating buckets.
So next time you're tempted by a flashy sports drink,
think twice about that. Mother Nature already nailed down hydration
with coconut water. It's affordable, delicious, and works with your body,
not against it. Stay refreshed, stay natural, and keep thriving.

(15:59):
This has been your health alternative of the week, coconut water.
All right, we're gonna go ahead and get to the
phone lines with Adrian from Johnson City, Tennessee.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
Adriam, Johnson City, Tennessee. My daughter's having headaches and we've
been to every doctor and can't seem to get a solution.
He's had them for over ninety days. They off and
we're just trying to find something natural that won't describe
an a tripling and stop them mics and things like that,

(16:29):
and we beside to have some kind of natural solution.
He's had an MRI CP skim. Everything's checking out normal,
all right.

Speaker 3 (16:39):
Hello Adrian, and thank you for reaching out. I'm sorry
to hear that your daughter's persistent headaches. Dealing with a
chronic pain, especially and a younger person can be really
tough on everybody. Since her MRI and ct skians are normal,
that's encouraging in the sense that there's no structural issues
that are causing headaches, but it also means we need

(17:02):
to look deeper into functional and lifestyle factors that may
be contributing, and from a natural medicine perspective, here are
some natural approaches that might help what we just talked
about there with hydration and nutrition. Dehydration and nutritional deficiencies
like magnesium and B vitamins can trigger those headaches. Ensure
she's drinking plenty of water and gets a balanced diet

(17:24):
that's rich in leafy greens, nuts, and whole foods. Magnesium
supplementation may be necessary here and it's shown a benefit
for migraine and headache relief. You may even try that
coconut water we just talked about in the health alternative.
I also think maybe she has chronic stress. It's a
major contributor for headaches. Techniques that she can do here

(17:46):
is like meditation, gentle yoga, or breathing exercises that can
help reduce that tension. You might also look as having
poor or irregular sleep patterns that can worsen headaches. Maintaining
a consistent sleep schedule that creates a relaxing bedtime routine
that's very important in headaches. Again, we're going to talk

(18:08):
about some triggers for a headache. The dietary track. You
can take a diary in tracking the foods, activities, or
environmental factors that may lead to these headaches, such as caffeine,
screen time, even certain odors or fragrances. As far as

(18:28):
supplementation go, I like to include things like fever few
or rival flaving, which is vitamin two B two. Be
sure to discuss these if you see in a natural
healthcare provider. As far as other strategies she can do
at acupuncture, manual therapies, even chiropractic, many patients experience benefit

(18:49):
from this. It can help reduce that headache frequency and severity.
And since you're looking for those natural alternatives, you may
consider some magnesium supplements like we said, and also some
things from essential formulas. They help. They're definitely good with
this as far as known for their purity and effectiveness. Also,

(19:09):
keep her healthcare team informed with this, especially when trying
these new supplements or therapies that we just suggested. I
hope these suggestions can help your daughter find some relief soon,
and let us know if we can help you in any
other further way. All right, I think we got time
for one more question before break. We're going to get
to David from Lexington, Kentucky.

Speaker 4 (19:30):
This is David calling from Lexington, Kentucky. I have a
question about prostatitis, not the bacterial type, the inflammatory type.
I've had this for over two and a half years
and it started up after surgery. I've been taking a

(19:52):
lot of supplements to try to eliminate it, but it's
helped a little bit. It's still there and I was
hoping maybe you could, hoping you can give me some
insight on that.

Speaker 3 (20:06):
Thanks you, all right, David, thank you. At first, it's
important to minimize any potential irritance. That means avoiding spicy foods, caffeine, alcohol,
or anything worse than the urinary tract sensitivity. Hydration is key,
like we've been talking about this whole hour, drink plenty
of clean filtered water throughout the day. As far as
the supplement goes, you mentioned with the salpal Meto it's

(20:30):
known for supporting prostate health and reducing inflammation. You may
also try to increase your omega three fatty acids and again, David,
keep in mind healing takes time with this, especially for
these chronic conditions, but a comprehensive natural approach addressing that inflammation, immunity,
and lifestyle can lead to meaningful improvement. Here all right, David,

(20:51):
thank you for your question. Listeners will be right back
with the health Outrage. You're listening to the Doctor Bob
Martin show.

Speaker 5 (21:00):
Mistakes, But everybody's got a choice to make. Everybody needs
a leave of faith.

Speaker 2 (21:07):
When are you taking your US.

Speaker 3 (21:11):
Money?

Speaker 2 (21:11):
You in fu?

Speaker 3 (21:15):
All right, welcome back. We're coming back with some more questions,
but we also take questions through email. What if you
have any questions that maybe or fried foods rotting my gut?
Can i od on vitamin guvings, No judgment, just answers.
Just give us a call or email. We may feature
your question on air. Let's turn this curiosity into clarity.

(21:37):
What's keeping you up at night? Go ahead and email
us at doctor Bob dot com. Before we get to
our health outrage, I want to go ahead and put
a spotlight on Spride's dental defense. Myself, my entire family,
in most of my healthcare colleagues who are interested in
avoiding tooth decay, gingivitis, paradontal disease, and bad breath use

(21:59):
Spry tooth paste and Spry mouth Rents. And this is
why if you get as uptight as I do about
the visit to the dental provider, here's what to do
to get be basically your best dental hygienist and Dennis.
Most of the time I brush my teeth with Spry
toothpaste and mouth Rents. It's really good. They have Spry

(22:22):
chewing gum Spry. It comes in delicious flavors like peppermint, cinnamon,
and spearmint. The secret sauce here, which is not really
a secret because it's science based, it's Xylotol. It's used
by millions of people with this dental defense system. Xylotol
is a plant based ingredients in Spry in mouth rents,
gum in immense, and it's anti cavity, anti plaque, and

(22:45):
anti bad news. Every time you go to the dental
hygienis or Dennis and they look in your mouth, they're
going to say, what have you been doing. Hopefully you
won't need any fellings of root, canal or crown because
Spray Dental Defense takes care of that. Spray Dental Defense
system creates an easy and expensive way to have xylotol
throughout the day without needing to change your daily habits.

(23:07):
If you want that squeaky clean teeth, gums and breath,
use Spry Dental Defense. Spry Dental Defense is available at
CBS and rite aid pharmacies, target vitamin shops, sprouts in
all natural grossers. For more information, go to Clear dot com,
Clear spelled x L e a r dot com and
look for Spry. The Clear is also the makers of

(23:29):
the Clear nasal sprays, which are great as well. Okay,
we're gonna get into our health outrage of the week.

Speaker 6 (23:43):
Each for the Health Outbridge, because it's nothing.

Speaker 3 (23:47):
Bullet all right. Beneath the vast expanses of America's farmland,
a toxic legacy from Vietnam War era is quietly infiltating
the food supply. It's threading national public health on a
scale that is unseen. It's America's silent poisoning, the hidden
chemical crisis in our food system. It's a herbicide known

(24:11):
as two four D. Once it was a key component
of Agent Orange, the defoliant infamous for devastating Vietnam jungles
and causing lifelong health issues and veterans and civilians alike.
It's now a cornerstone of modern agriculture, despite its classification
as a possible human carcinogen by the World Health Organization.

(24:34):
Two four D is sprayed on over fifty million acres
of US crop land, primarily in the Midwest and Southern States.
The chemical its journey from warfare to farmland underscores a
troubling paradox. A substance that's linked to cancer, hormone disruption,
and ecological harm remains entrenched in the systems that feed millions,

(24:57):
even as evidence of its dangers. A toxic legacy is here.
It's from agent Orange, like I said, to agribusiness. Developed
in the nineteen forties, two to four D was initially
hailed as a breakthrough for its ability to kill weeds
without harming crops like corn, soybeans, and wheat. However, its
military application of agent Orange during the Vietnam War left

(25:20):
a dark legacy with veterans and Vietnamese civilians suffering cancers,
birth effects, and neurological disorders. While the more the toxic
component of agent orange is it's some known as two
four five T. It was banned globally in the nineteen eighties.
Two four D endured. It was rebranded as a safe herbicide,

(25:45):
and it became a staple in American agriculture, especially after
the rise of genetically modified crops that are engineered to
withstand the effects. Today, it's one of the most widely
used herbicides, heavily in states like Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Texas,
and Kentucky, and other states that form the nation's agricultural backbone.

(26:08):
The US Geological Survey in twenty twenty five's data revealed
alarming concentrations of two four D use in the Midwest
and the South, where it's sprayed on corn about ninety
two percent of the US production, soybeans ninety five of
the production, and wheat eighty percent. These crops that are
foundational to process foods, the biofuels and livestock feed they ensure.

(26:34):
The chemicals reach extends far beyond those farm states. For example,
corn becomes syrup and sodas soybeans or processed into oils
and animal feed and wheat flour fills up supermarket shelves.
Even regions with lower usage like California and New England,

(26:54):
they're not spared here as contaminated crops. They are shipped nationwides.
It's like Kentucky, a top two four D user report
cancer rates thirty percent above the national average, with clusters
of lung, coal, rectal, and pancreatic cancers for example non

(27:16):
Hodgen's lyphoma. It's linked to this herbicide exposure in multiple studies.
It's disportionately that's prevalent in farmers and rural communities here.
In twenty fifteen, the International Agency for Research on Cancer
classified two four D as a Group two B carcingen.
It cites evidence of DNA damage and tumor growth in

(27:39):
these animal studies. Human research paints a dire picture. One
in three Americans have a urinary two four D levels
that exceed the safety thresholds. It also tied to this
chronic exposure to leukemia and soft tissue sarcoma, particularly in children,
and the endocrine disruption of this is another critical concern,

(28:03):
as two four D mimics estrogen and thyroid hormones, potentially
contributing to infertility, early puberty, and metabolic disorders. So how
is this invaded in our daily life? It's in the
food chain. Processed foods from cereal to sodas. They're saturated
with corn syrup, soybean oil, and wheat derivatives. Meat from

(28:24):
dairy and livestock feed that it's two four D that's
treated hay and it spreads throughout the residue. It also
gets in our water system. The herbicide leeches into groundwater,
detected in twenty two percent of Midwest drinking wells. It's
easily spread through the air two four D. It travels,
drifting up to three hundred miles or more and contaminates

(28:46):
most farms and gardens along the way. Consumers can mitigate
this exposure through washing produced thoroughly. A baking soda soaka.
One teaspoon of baking soda perchain two cups of water
removes about seventy percent of the revenue. Peeling these fruits
back and discarding outer lettuce layers helps to decrease that

(29:11):
pesticide intake. I think you also need to choose organic
when possible. The USDA Organic Certification prohibits the synthetic herbicides,
priatories organic for strawberry, spinach and wheat products. And if
you can filter your water, reverse osmosis can activate these
carbon systems that reduce the two four D exposure in

(29:32):
that So, if we're thinking about this, the widespread use
of two four D epitomizes a food system that again
is prietory profit overhealth. Again, yet every meal offers a choice.
You can you can stop this cycle or demand a change.
By supporting organic agriculture and advocating for sustainable practices, consumers

(29:53):
can dismantle the toxic legacy. You've been listened to the
Doctor Bob Martin Show.

Speaker 6 (30:00):
So you, So.

Speaker 2 (30:06):
You Dad?

Speaker 6 (30:07):
I'm a bussom his number signonsible behind the one never single,
I'm stop today.

Speaker 3 (30:34):
Welcome, Welcome back. You were listening to the Doctor Bob
Martin Show. I'm doctor Adam Brockman, and I want to
remind you again if you've got a health related question,
We're about to get into a few more. I want
you to dial eight hundred six zero six eight eight
to two to two. Doctor Bob and I are here
and we're ready to tackle your questions. Think of us
as you're twenty four hours a day, seven days a week.

(30:54):
Health outline again, that number is eight hundred six zero
six eight eight two two. Okay, so we're gonna get
to our product recall of the week. Our product recall
of the week. I want you to hold on, seafood lovers.
This week we're talking about a fishy fiasco that could

(31:14):
leave you literally paralyzed from the lunch plate up. The
catch of the day here is Peast Trading Corporation. They
just recalled herring. This has been distributed across the eastern
United States. It's packed in eighteen pound wooden boxes with
a bonus surprise, the full intestines have been included. Nothing

(31:35):
says gourmet like unremoved organs festering with botulism bacteria. It
should make your spine tangle because botulism attacks nerves like
a hacker crash in your nervous system. It can cause
full body paralysis, even your LUNs. Symptoms start with blurry
vision and end with ICU visits. These deathfish that may

(31:58):
they be in repackaged at the story themselves. Just removing
the intestines, meaning your fresh caring could be a silent
killer in disguise. So what I want you to do
here is if you see any suspicious hearing, if you
smell it, go ahead and dump it. If you have
muscle weakness or slurred speech, you might need to talk
with your doctor. And if you had you do notice

(32:20):
that Peast Trading Corporation they will give you refound on
this the week's product recall. It goes to this intestinal
hering for proving that some fish should stay in the sea.
Not your digestive track. Okay, let's get right back into
caller questions. We got Bernie coming up here.

Speaker 7 (32:37):
Hi, this is Bernie. I have a question about arthritis.
A lot of people have arthritis, and I was listening
to somebody talk about cat claw. Cat class supposed to
be good for pain or curing. I'm not even sure
what I heard. It was a while back. Anyway, can
you please address that this has anybody ever cures they're

(33:00):
arthritis and with what and how long did it take?
And is cat claw goods?

Speaker 3 (33:09):
Thank you all right, Bertie, thanks for your question about arthritis.
It's something that affects millions and it can be a
challenge and challenge to manage cat clause. It's an herbal supplement.
It's been traditionally used in South America for its anti inflammatory,
in immune supporting properties. Some studies, they suggest that it

(33:30):
helps reduce joint pain and inflammation that's associated with arthritis,
especially rheumatoid arthritis, which is an autoimmune condition. Cat clause
contains compounds that may help to modulate the immune response
and calm that inflammation. However, it's important to understand that arthritis,
whether it's osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis, it's complex and there's

(33:52):
no single cure at this time. Many people find relief
through a combination of lifestyle changes, supplements, physical therapy, chiropractic care,
and sometimes conventional treatments. As far as natural support goes
beyond catclaw, I often recommend turmeric or cocumin. It's a
potent anti inflammatory spice. It's got a lot of research

(34:15):
behind it and backs the benefits for arthritis pain. Also
Omega three fatty acids. They're found in fish oil or
algae supplements which help to reduce the inflammation throughout the
entire body, Collagen and hyaluronic acid. Sometimes they can be
helped to support joint health and that helped to repair cartilage.

(34:38):
Along with that is a product we just talked about, Nuvsel.
It's a revolutionary product that is topical. If you want
more information on that, go ahead go into our website
at doctor Bob dot com. And finally, I want to
suggest some gentle exercises like swimming or yoga that can
help maintain joint mobility and reduce that stiffness. Healing and

(35:01):
improvement depending on many factors here, and it depends on
the type of arthritis, even the severity of it, and
how early you start care. Some people see noticeable relief
within a few weeks to months considering that cat claw
or some of those other recommendations I gave, But you
need consistent natural support with that. Other people may take

(35:24):
longer or need other comprehensive approaches. I think you always
need to check with your healthcare provider before starting new supplements,
especially if you're on medications or have other health conditions.
And Bernie, stay hopeful on this. Managing arthritis naturally is
about reducing inflammation. It supports your joints and improves your

(35:45):
overall quality of life. Okay, I think we're coming up
on our final segment of the day, and before we pause. Folks,

back with more tips in our final segment, the Health
Mystery of the Week. You're listening to the Doctor Bob
Martin Show on Radio America. Welcome back. You're listening to

(37:20):
the Doctor Bob Martin Show. I'm doctor Adam Brockman, and
we have hit the home stretch here. We're gonna go
ahead and get to our health mystery of the week.
Our health mystery of the week is an auto brewery syndrome.
When your gut ferments beer without taking a single sip.

(37:43):
So buckle up, folks, this week's health mystery is so
bizarre it sounds like a prank. Imagine failing a breathalyzer
test despite not touching a drop of alcohol. Meet auto
brewery syndrome, a rare condition where your gut microbiome turns
carbs into actual alcohol, leaving you drunk on well life,

(38:04):
let's uncork this wild tail. Here's a case of the
sober drunk. A fifty year old woman in Belgium was
recently acquitted of drunk driving after proving her body self
brewed enough alcohol to blow a point four blood alcohol content,
which is five times the legal limit, from a breakfast
of just pancakes and orange juice. That's how it works.

(38:26):
It's an overgrowth of gut fungi like candida, and it
ferments carbohydrates into ethanol. Think of it as a microbrewery
in your intestines. It's a happy hour in your colon
going on. The symptoms include a drunk behavior, slurred speech, dizziness,
hanovers without a single cocktail, and victims they often endure

(38:50):
years of misdiagnosis like epilepsy or a mental illness before
stumbling onto this truth. It's got a historic kickup with
ancient roots. It's modern day, first documented in the nineteen
forties Japan, but cases date back to medieval time. Some
historians speculate auto brewery may explain old tales of mysterior

(39:12):
drunkenness among monks fasting on just bread and water. Why
this is a kind of a superpower or is it
a party trick? Imagine coverting a bagel into a margarita.
But if this goes on too long, you can have
chronic liver damage, a social stigma in the existent dread

(39:32):
of never trusting a potato. If you're trying to sober
up your gut, there is anti fungal medicine out there.
You can nuke the yeast with prescriptions, or you can
try a low carb diet, starving out those microbiology brewers
in your gut. Or you can try it to restore
your balance with good bacteria with probiotics. While it is rare,

(39:55):
but real, auto brewery syndrome reminds us that the human
body is equal part genius and mad scientist. If you
feel suddenly tipsy after just having toast, maybe skip the
traffic stop and call your gastro enterrologists. This has been
your health mystery of the weak auto brewery syndrome. All right,

(40:16):
that's a wrap for today. A huge thanks to you
for fueling us. Remember small steps, calls, big impact. Keep
calling us eight hundred and six or oh six eight
eighty two to two, emailing us and tagging us. Doctor
Bob and here are here to cheer you on until
next time. Your health isn't a destination, it's a daily adventure.

(40:37):
owning your journey. This is doctor Adam Brockman signing off
