So stay tuned the entire hour and let's go ahead
(02:51):
and get started. First story I want to tell you
about is a story from ESPN, and it's the news
that Tiger Woods. He recently underwent alone on bar disc
replacement surgery to address some ongoing pain and mobility issues
in his lower back, and the procedure, which took place
in New York, embarks his seventh back surgery. Woods shared
(03:12):
on social media that the decision was made after consulting
with doctors in reviewing scans that revealed a collapse disc
in the L four L five region where there is
disc fragments in a compromised spinal canal. Now, Woods He's
faced several injuries would like this in the lower back
and He's had surgeries seven surgeries for his back alone
(03:36):
and including surgeries after a car crash in twenty twenty
one that severely damaged his right leg and his ankle.
But even before that his participation in golf had been limited,
and since the accident he's had only fifteen golf appearances
in the past four years. Now, it does remain unclear
(03:56):
how long this latest surgery will keep him off the
course or if he will return, but it raises questions
about where that potential return might be because he's been
seeing in tournaments with his son Charlie, like the pn
C Championship in the Hero World Challenge, but the surgery
it's part of Wood's ongoing journey to manage this condition
(04:19):
and to try to make a make do of his
and continue his legendary career in golf. And his resilience
is determination. It's still there, it's evident, and his fans,
they're undoubtedly trying to watch and see what happens with
his updates and if he will recover in his future plans.
And I want to play a clip from ESPN stephen A.
(04:41):
Smith and Chris Russo talking about stephen A made it
bluntly by stating that Wood's career may be as a
recreational golfer now if we can play that.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
To me is what the guy never gets a break.
I mean, he never gets any break whatsoever. And this again,
he's getting ready for the man. Would have been fun
to see him here next month, and now we don't
get a chance to see him, if at all, until
next year. Along the lines of a guy who's had
actually no luck, some of it self induced no luck
(05:12):
in the last say, eight nine years of his life.
Speaker 4 (05:14):
Really from a sports standpoint, it's terrible.
Speaker 5 (05:17):
I mean no, I mean no disrespect.
Speaker 6 (05:20):
To me.
Speaker 5 (05:23):
Tiger Woods is a recreational golfer at this point. We
know how he's the all time greatest, We get that,
but his health is so bad. He's gone through so
many physical tragedies that it's like this. I keep telling people, Doggy,
you notice better than me because you've paid more, far
(05:45):
more attention to golf than I do. I look at golfing.
I literally look at Tiger Woods and I don't even
think about his game. You know what I think about
one day because that's all you got. You go through,
you walk eighteen holes Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. He ain't
(06:05):
making it. He's not making it. Literally, you don't even
think about his swing, y'all. You don't think about his
short game. You don't think about his mid game. You
don't think about anything mid range game, You don't think
about none that. You don't think about him driving off
the team. All you think about is he can't make
it the four days walking before you even think about
him swinging, walking the eighteen whole course. It's not something
(06:28):
he can do anymore. And that has been the case
for years.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
All right. That's from Stephen A. Smith with ESPN and
also Chris Russo. And what we're talking about here is
Tiger Woods, And as Stephen A. Smith said, it's almost
impossible for him to walk the whole weekend now playing golf,
and let alone being competitive at that. So Tiger Woods
(06:55):
in his seven back surgeries, it's more than just this tale,
this golf legends is struggle. It's another case of what
I consider a much larger issue plaguing modern medicine, and
that's the over reliance on surgical interventions when conservative treatments
might be the answer. Wood's journey that obviously he's in
(07:17):
pain and he's also tried to make some perseverance, and
he's had these repeated procedures. It mirrors what countless other
patients that I've seen who find themselves caught in a
cycle of surgeries that fail to have any lasting relief,
deliver that lasting relief that they're looking for. So this narrative,
it's not.
Speaker 4 (07:36):
Unique to Woods.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
It's a systemic problem that I think we need to
look at it with more scrutiny, maybe some reform and
shift towards more of a holistic patient centered care approach.
And these there's many many studies out there on failed
back surgeries, but one recent study that I want to
(07:59):
make mention is of one that's it's called unnecessary spine
surgery and if we can solve this and the study
it sheds lights light on some troubling trends. It reveals
that eighty percent of spine clinic patients they don't need
the surgery. That's eighty percent, Yet many undergo procedures that
(08:21):
are either unnecessary, not indicated, or not in their best interest.
In Wood's case, it's definitely on the lines of this issue.
And despite his access to the best medical care, these
repeated surgeries, including a disc replacement, a lumbar disc replacement,
(08:43):
it's not restored him to that peak performance that he's
been looking for. Instead, they kind of compounded with his
physical limitations, has reduced his mobility, and it's shortened his career.
So one of the key factors so it's driving these
unnecessary spine surgeries is the over reliance on imaging, in
(09:05):
particular MRIs. The study it highlights that degenerative findings like
disc bulges are They're common even in asymptomatic patients, that's
ones that don't have the problems that are showing up
yet yet these findings they often lead to surgical recommendations,
(09:25):
even when conservative treatments like chiropractic or physical therapy, regenda medicine,
or just an anti inflammatory protocol could have been more effective.
Wood's case. It shows this his surgeries were likely driven
by imaging results that showed disk issues, dis bulges, herniations,
(09:47):
and these findings may have not really been the root
cause of his pain. Obviously. Another factor here is the
financial incentives the spine surgery. They make up about twelve
billion dollar per year in the US market alone, and
surgeons they often face pressure to perform procedures that generate
(10:08):
this revenue, and this creates a conflict of interest where
the financial gain of the surgeon or the institute may
take precedence over the patient's best interest. So Woods, as
a high profile athlete, may have been even more vulnerable
to this dynamic, and surgeons eager to offer these quick
fixes thinking that they'll get him back out there without
(10:31):
exploring these less invasive, long term solutions. I want to
talk about this a little bit more when we come
back from break, So I want you to stick around
and listen. If you've got questions about back pain. It's
a common question that we get here on the show.
Give us a call at eight hundred six or six

Welcome back, Doctor Adam Brockman here and you're tuned in
to the Doctor Bob Martin Show. And as we're talking
about today's conversation again, I want to remind you about
our listener resources, one being our email health question form.
So if you've got a question or topic you'd like
us to explore, especially the one we're talking about today
with about failed back surgery, it's a common question that
(12:37):
we get here on the show. Just head over to
doctor Bob dot com and submit your question through our
easy to use form that's doctor Bob dot com. Spell
out the word doctor d O C t R R
Bob dot com. You can also call us at our
hotline at eight hundred six er O six eight eight
two two. That's eight hundred six er O six eight
eight two two. So again we're talking about Tiger Woods
(12:59):
and he's ad is seventh back surgery according to ESPN News.
And we're talking about the key factors that are in
these unnecessary spine surgeries, like the overreliance on MRIs or
imaging the financial incentives. But I also want to talk
about the psychological toll of repeated back surgeries, and it
(13:21):
can't be overlooked. Chronic pain in the cycle of hope
and illusion that comes with failed back surgeries erodes a
patient's mental health. For Woods, there was a thirteen month
gap only between surgeries between back surgeries and suggests a
pattern of optimism that's followed by this disappointment. And it's
(13:43):
a pattern that I've seen many times in patients who
undergo unnecessary back surgeries. That is psychological, it's a burden
and it can be just as debilitating as the physical
pain and it diminishes the patient's quality of life. So
the solutions for these the study it proposes a multifaceted
(14:05):
approach that includes a second opinion, programs, multidisciplinary care pathways
in stricter imaging guidelines, and for athletes like Woods, integrative
spine centers that blend surgery only when necessary with regendaive
chiropractic in physical therapy options. It could prevent these career
(14:26):
derailing over treatments, and these centers they would prioritize long
term health over short term fixes, offering patients a more complex,
a comprehensive in a patient centered approach to the care.
So one promising avenue that we talk about often that
I've implemented in my clinics is regenative medicine, which includes
(14:50):
treatments like stem cell therapy and platelet rich plasma PRP injections,
and these therapies they aim to promote healing and reduce
inflammation without the risk associated with surgeries. And for Tiger Woods,
exploring these regendative options earlier in his treatment journey might
have preserved his career longevity and spared him from some
(15:12):
of these unnecessary surgeries in the physical and psychological toll
of the repeated surgeries. Although he has incorporated Regenda medicine
after surgery, it may have been a little bit too
late in this in his journey for recovery. And another
critical step in this is education process patients. They need
(15:35):
to know and be empowered with information about treatment options
that are out there, including the risk and benefits of
surgery versus conservative care. And like we said, with these
second opinion programs, they can help ensure the patients are
not rushed into procedures without fully understanding the alternatives that
are out there. For Tiger Woods, a second option might
(15:59):
have led to a different treatment path, one that prioritized
his long term health over those immediate results and the
study it also emphasized the importance of these multidisciplinary care pathways,
the pathways that involve a team of healthcare providers including
(16:19):
not just surgeons, but chiropractors, physical therapists, pain specialist, and
Regenta medicine experts who work together to develop a comprehensive
type of a treatment plan for Tiger. Such a team
could have explored non surgical options like biomechanical adjustments, targeted
(16:41):
exercise programs and anti inflammatory protocols before resorting to the surgery.
And finally, I believe there's a need for an overall
systemic change at the government level and medical associations and
insurance companies is that they all must work together to
(17:02):
reduce the prevalence of unnecessary surgeries. This includes implementing second
opinion mandates, establishing clear guidelines for imaging and treatment, and
promoting ethical practices among surgeons. There's something known as the
Choosing Wisely Campaign. It's initiative that's aimed at reducing unnecessary
(17:23):
testing like those unnecessary MRIs and also unnecessary procedures. And
I think that's a step in the right direction. And
if we're joining these initiatives spine associations and societies, that
can help ensure that patients receive the appropriate care for
their condition. And so Tiger's story it is more of
(17:44):
a cautionary tale, but it's not just for athletes. It's
for anyone facing the decision to undergo spine surgery. It
highlights a need in a shift, if you will, from
a cut first mentality to a heal first approach, and
that's where surgery should be a last resort and not
the first and for those of you out there that's
(18:07):
battling back pain, the message should be clear, always seek
that second opinion, Explore conservative options, explore regenttitive options, and
remember surgery should be carefully considered and it's not just
a default solution. So if we're looking at Tiger Woods's journey,
we're reminded that the human body is pretty fragile and
(18:30):
the importance of prioritizing that long term health over short
term fixes. Now, he has been very resilient in his
determination has inspired millions, but his story also serves as
a call to action, a reminder that we must do
better as physicians for patients, ensuring that they receive the
(18:50):
most appropriate, effective and ethical care that's possible. So remember,
behind every headline, there's also another layer. Whether it's Tiger
Woods's back surgeries or a broader issue of the unnecessary
spiner spinal procedures. The key is to we need to
(19:11):
stay critical on this and always seek out the truth s. Folks,
stay healthy on this. Remember your health is your greatest asset. Now,
I want to move on to a to get to
some caller questions today. One of them from how in Westchester, Iowa.
Speaker 8 (19:28):
Hell, west Chester, Iowa, and I was calling about you
not only juice for dolls. As far as this website situation,
not all those old people have website, got a flip film.
Speaker 6 (19:42):
But you.
Speaker 8 (19:44):
Enjoy your program?
Speaker 2 (19:45):
Thank you all right, Well, thanks for your call, how
and we're glad to hear from you, and thank you
again for enjoying the program. We appreciate the listeners like
yourself who are actively engaged with these health tops. Okay,
as far as regarding nony juice, that is something that
is derived from a fruit in that's native to Southeast Asia. Now,
(20:10):
the juice, it's been used traditionally for centuries due to
its potential health benefits, including antioxidant properties and anti inflammatory effects.
Now many people they consume nony juice in hopes that
they boost their immune system and support their overall wellness.
And we recently talked about it regarding two pets and
it works the same way with them. So the potential
(20:32):
benefits are those antioxidant properties with nony juice. It helps
combat that oxidative stress that's in the body, and it
could be particularly beneficial as we age or as we're
pets age. And some studies suggest that nony may help
to reduce inflammation, making it potentially useful for conditions that
are related to that chronic inflammation. It's also been shown
(20:56):
to aid in digestive digestion in its almost a natural
laxative effect to that. So, however, moderation is key, as
we've gave some dosage for that. Just a one ounce
shot a couple of times a day may work well
for that. And as far as finding that, you also
mentioned that not all older adults have access to websites
(21:17):
or use smartphones, and that's an important observation. If you're
looking for No Need juice, you can find it in
GNC sprouts and vitamin shops. You can also call eight
hundred eighty four to two five three zero nine. That's
Ta Tahiti Trader's website. Website is Tahiti Trader dot com. Again,
the phone number is eight hundred eight four to two
(21:39):

Bob Show special. All right, folks will be right back
with more of your questions. You can give us a
call at eight hundred six or six eight A two

Speaker 7 (22:00):
On a lightning strike.
Speaker 4 (22:02):
How are you waiting for the perfect night?
Speaker 3 (22:05):
How are you waiting to the time is night?
Speaker 6 (22:12):

Speaker 4 (22:15):

Speaker 9 (22:24):
Honey?
Speaker 2 (22:25):
You welcome back. You're listening to the Doctor Bob Martin Show.
I'm doctor Adam Brockman, and we're answering some of your
questions today. If you've got questions about your health, natural health, nutrition,
or anything in between, give us a call. Our toll
free hotline is open at eight hundred six zero six
eight eight two two. That's eight hundred six zero six
(22:46):
eight eight two to two. All right. Let's get to
an email question here from Nancy in Gold Beach, Oregon.
She asked, my seventy seven year old husband has been
recently diagnosed via C scan with a hernia. He's scheduled
for surgery. He would like to know if there are
things that he can do to either improve the hernia
(23:08):
without surgery or reduce the risk of pain. We've been
listening to your show for many years and appreciate your
knowledge and approach. Thank you for being there. All right,
So Nancy, hi, and thanks for your question and reaching out,
and of course listening and also tell your husband that
we really appreciate him being a long time listener to
the show. So I understand how concerning it can be
(23:32):
to hear that word hernia, And the good news is
there are some steps that you can take that can
keep him comfortable and possibly keep things from getting worse.
And while hernias they don't usually heal without surgery, I'll
give you a few few things that can make a
real difference. So of course he's probably been told to
(23:55):
try to avoid heavy lifting or straining, and that can
increase that pressure sure in that abdomen area and make
the hernia worse. But if he focuses on fiber rich
foods like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, that can also
help to for him to avoid constipation in the straining
that's associated with that gentle movement's great light walking, mildcore
(24:21):
strengthening exercises. Of course, he wants to be under a
doctor's guidance on that it can help to support that
abdomen area. From a natural health standpoint, I like radiant
greens for inflammatory support, and he can also use Sunwarrior
plant based protein to help maintain muscle tone in recovery.
But if this pain increases, or if the hernia changes
(24:44):
in size or causes any digestive type of symptoms, surgery
may be his best option. But supporting his body naturally
before and after can really make a difference there. And
thank you again for your call. All right, let's get
back to a the phone lines and get to a
call from Willie in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
Speaker 10 (25:06):
My name is Worthy Tillman in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
Speaker 8 (25:11):
I would like to have.
Speaker 10 (25:13):
The paperwork only the pills that you take that controls
your blood pressure, your.
Speaker 6 (25:22):
Sugar, your.
Speaker 10 (25:26):
Uh NIS high blood pressure and everything. I need the
name of that medication. I'd like to buy some pills
like that. If you have any paperwork concerning this pill,
please mail them to me.
Speaker 6 (25:46):
I need them.
Speaker 2 (25:48):
All right, Well, well, thank you for your call and
uh and we did send you some some stuff, and
we also gave you a call and hopefully hopefully you
talk with some of our staff on that. But I
also wanted to answer this because this is a common
question that we get and I'm glad you reached out
on this. Now, the pill or the supplement that you're
(26:09):
referring to, is a great product. That we mentioned often
on the show. It's called chyolic age garlic extract, and
this in particular is the cardiovascular formula, and as far
as it goes, it's designed to help support healthy circulatory
circulation in a body, maintain that arterial flexibility, and keep
(26:31):
blood pressure in that healthy range, things that become absolutely
critical as we age, especially if we're dealing with multiple
risk factors like elevated blood sugar, cholesterol, or blood pressure.
What I like about this formula is that it's rooted
in nature. It combines research nutrients with garlic and also
(26:54):
other botanicals that help to improve that endothelial function. And
what that is, that's that inner lining of your arteries,
and it promotes better blood flow. This is key because
stiff or inflamed arteries are at the core of so
many issues that you mentioned. Now, another supplement I like
(27:15):
is some nutrition's vascular defense and that can be a
powerful support for you as well. And I always remind
our listeners that lifestyle is the foundation. So that means
focusing on a nutrient rich diet. You know, plenty of vegetables,
lean proteins, omega three foods, and also keeping processed sugars
(27:37):
and trans fats out of the picture. Gentle daily movement,
even walking makes a huge difference in circulation, in blood
sugar balance, Stress reduction, whether that might be through prayer, meditation,
or deep breathing is also surprisingly powerful for your cardiovascular system.
(27:58):
But to answer you directly, so that what you're asking
about is coyolic age garlic extract and that's the cardiovascular formula.
It's a supplement that we talk about on the show
and addresses blood pressure, sugar regulation, and arterial health. And
you can learn more about it and uh also how
to order it on the Kyolic website that's coyolic dot
(28:20):
com and that's spelled k yo lic kyo lic dot
com or by calling eight hundred four two one two
nine nine eight. That's eight hundred four two one two
nine nine eight all right, will, So hopefully that clears
things up for you. You're on the right track by
asking those questions and being proactive about your health. Remember,
(28:45):
good circulation, it can lead to good life. In combining
smart choices with that targeted nutrition like coyolic age garlic
extract can go a long way and keeping you strong
and resilient. All right, let's get to our next question
from Anna in Anchorage, Alaska.
Speaker 9 (29:06):
I'm Anna from Anchorage, Alaska, and I would appreciated call back.
I have a burning question. I try to eat organic
all everything, and lately I've been getting produced as marked
its organic, but I'm wondering if it's it's done in
a you know, those water grooms not earth grown platforms.
(29:29):
For instance, there's a whole bunch of quote organic mushrooms
from the Netherlands, and I know that they grow everything hydroponically.
There acres and acres of it, So hydroponics to me,
it doesn't It's not the same as organic food. It's
chemicals in water. And I'm thinking, I know organic is
(29:50):
no pesticides, no insecticides, but should we have a different
category for things that are chemically back room as in vat.
I'm just puzzled about how to pick food that is
nutritious and not just a bunch of chemicals in water. Likewise,
(30:13):
some organic carrots there must be fourteen inches long. These
don't seem like they're normal carrots. They don't grow that
long in the soil, do they.
Speaker 2 (30:21):
So those are my questions, all right, Anna, and we're
going to get to those after the break. So again, listeners,

(35:16):
All right, let's get back into our question. Before the break,
we listened to Anna, who was concerned about whether hydroponically
grown produce can really be considered organic and also questions
about like how large organic carrots are. Okay, so Anna,
thanks for your question and ingreetents to you up in Anchorage.
(35:40):
So let's unpack this step by step because you brought
up some very some important points about organics, hydroponics, nutrition,
and maybe even some broader concerns about how our food
system ties into hormonal health. Now, first, let's talk about
what the organic label actually means here in the United States.
(36:02):
When you see the USDA Organic seal, it means that
food has been grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or genetically
modified organisms, in that the fertilizers used are a proof
for organic farming. What it doesn't always tell you, however,
is the method of growing. Now hydroponics, which as you mentioned,
(36:25):
is food grown in water solutions rather than soil. It
can still be considered certified organic if it meets that
organic standard mentioned above. Now, no synthetic chemicals, guess now
nutrients They they're dissolved in the water rather than coming
directly from rich, living soil. So you're on point to
(36:50):
notice that hydroponics in soil grown organics are not identical.
Soil is not just dirt, it's a living ecosystem full
of microbes, fung gui, in minerals that all contribute to
the nutritional complexity of food that it grows in. And
when you take the soil out of the equation, you
(37:12):
can certainly still grow clean, pesticide free produce. But many
of us in this natural health world would argue that
something is still missing, that the food may be lower
in certain trace minerals or phido nutrients that develop through
the soil plant microbe relationship. And also when you're talking
(37:33):
about these super carrots that you've seen, these industrial scale
organic farms, even when certified, can produce crops that they
might look a little different. They're longer, larger, maybe even
a little different flavor. Bigger doesn't always mean better when
it comes to nutrition. So we're asking what you can
(37:53):
do about this, Well, the gold standard is always to
get as close to the source as possible. You know,
farmers' markets, community sourced agricultural programs, and even growing a
little of your own food in pots or beds. This
can give you the best assurance of truly nutrient rich produce.
And when you shop in larger stores, look for local
(38:17):
labels when possible. That's why on the show. We often
recommend visiting our friends at natural Grocers who do an
excellent job of not only meeting organic standards, but also
educating consumers about the sourcing, the nutrition in what those
labels really mean. So if you're not near a natural
grocer's location, you can find many of their products that
(38:38):
they're available at naturalgrocers dot com. Now on your on
the talk about hormones in the low testosterone issue we're
seeing in many people today, you hit something very real.
Diet plays a huge role in that hormonal balance. Over
processed foods, pesticides inposure to they can be intocrine disruptors
(39:03):
that you're a hormone balance center in your body. And
also you're talking about plastics that can lower testosterone and
disrupt that estrogen balance. So what we need is a
diet that is rich in whole foods, clean proteins, healthy
fats in vegetables, and that goes a long way in
supporting hormone health Naturally, sometimes adding nutrients like zinc vitamin
(39:29):
D can be very beneficial for this. So to summarize,
hydroponic organic produce is cleaner than most conventional products out there.
Nearly all conventional products out there but it may not
deliver the same richness of nutrients as soil grown organics.
So if you prioritize local, fresh and soil grown when possible,
(39:52):
and remember the closer your food is to nature, the
closer your body will be in balance. Okay, folks, So
we're coming up again on a on a break, and

This is my way, side, my side, no tell us,
(43:21):
Welcome back.
Speaker 2 (43:22):
I'm doctor Adam Brockman, and folks, we've covered some grand
to day on the Doctor Bob Martin Show, from Tiger
Woods seven back surgeries to the shocking truth that eighty
percent of spine operations may be unnecessary. So if you're
sitting there rubbing your aching back while listening, I want
to remind you of this. Your pain is real, but
(43:44):
surgery isn't always the solution. Look for conservative alternatives when possible.
So this is a system that has failed Tiger Woods
in his golf career. Even as we heard from ESPN
Stephen a Smith, that is, he thinks that has now
made him a recreational golfer. Only this system, it fails
(44:07):
millions of Americans every single year and they get rushed
to the operating room when the alternatives like chiropractic, physical therapy,
regenda medicine, or even just simple lifestyle changes could have helped.
We've become this nation that treats MRIs like crystal balls,
and we forget that fifty two percent of pain free
(44:31):
people have disc bulges. That's fifty two percent have disc
bulges that are pain free, and twenty seven percent have
disk protrusions or herniations. These abnormal findings on a MRI,
they might just be normal age related problems that can
be corrected without the knife. Now, so you, as the
(44:53):
listeners that are following along, if you're facing that surgery decision,
here's an action plan for you to get a second opinion,
preferably from a non surgeon. Maybe that's a sports medicine
doctor or a regendave medicine specialist and try and speaking
of regenda medicine, try some of those options out there
(45:13):
like plate rich plasma injections or stem cell therapy. And
when we talk about this, oftentimes we have a special
guest on the show, an expert in this Grant Townshend
of Nuvassell Biologics, that has a topical stem cell cream
that works wonderful here. And also I encourage you to
commit to just ninety days of conservative care, whether that's
(45:35):
chiropractic care, physical therapy and anti inflammatory diet, or just
something as simple as proper high duration. So remember what
we learned today. These unnecessary spine surgeries cost America billions annually.
But that's not just dollars that are wasted, it's also
lives that are altered, like tiger woods. The North American
(45:58):
Spine Society even emits that they can't agree on when
spinal fusion is appropriate. So before we sign off, knowledge
is power, and your body has an incredible ability to heal.
Sometimes it just needs the right tools, not a scalpel.
