tip of the day, deploy a two minute heel happiness.
It's a routine. If you wake with that the first step,
it feels like a stainer in your heel. And I

(02:45):
want you to stand facing a wall and perform a
calf stretch in a knee straight for about thirty seconds
per side. Then repeat with the knee slightly bent for
another thirty seconds per side. And then next I want
you to roll a tennis ball under each foot for
about thirty slow seconds, focusing on just stretching those tender

(03:08):
bands along the arch. And do this before your first
steps out of bed, in again mid afternoon if you
have time, and if you pair it with supportive, non
floppy footwear for about one week, you'll be amazed how
quickly the morning wentz fades. And if we're speaking of
the feet that planner fasci it us, it's often a
symptom of a bigger story. Tight calves, weak foot muscles,

(03:33):
and long hours on rigid surfaces or maybe even shoes
that bend where your foot shouldn't. If you add what
I call toe yoga once daily, spread your toes wide,
lift just the big toe for about five seconds, then
just the other four and repeat this about five times.
It's not glamorous, but it restores the foot's natural spring.

(03:58):
And for my call diet based inflammation, consider magnesium glycinate
at night in a turmeric ginger tea in afternoon. These
are just small hinges that swing big doors. And folks,
this is your hour to participate. Share what's working for you,
ask what's confusing, and challenge us to personalize your plan.

(04:21):
Maybe you want the simplest anti inflammatory breakfast, a concrete
sleep reset, or help interpreting labs from a natural lens.

two to two. There's no question that is too small
when the goal is to have a better life. We're
here to serve you with clarity, compassion, in a dose

(04:44):
of humor. We're appropriate because wellness it should be uplifting,
not overwhelming. All right, folks, so stick around, we got
exciting hour for you. We're going to get started with
our first our first story, which if you're a diet
coke drinker, you'll want to listen up. All right. Today
we're tackling a topic that's got bubbles, zero calories and

(05:06):
a whole lot of questions, and that's diet coke. Is
it the harmless treat we think it is, or is
it secretly messing with our blood sugar? So? I know,
you know you're trying to be healthy. You ditch the
sugary soda for diet coke, and you think you're making
a smart choice. But what if I told you that
seemingly innocent swap it could be impacting your blood sugar levels.

(05:30):
So it sounds crazy, right, Well, this recent study it's
raising some serious eyebrows and I'm going to break it
all down for you today, all right, So let's go
ahead and get into it. This recent study it explores
and it asks the question does diet coke raise blood sugar? Now, logically,
you'd think zero sugar, zero problem, But the human body

(05:54):
is complex and artificial sweeteners they can sometimes throw a
wrench in the work. This study, it highlights the potential
for these sweeteners to influence our gut microbiome, which in
turn can affect how our blood sugar is regulated. So
how exactly could a zero calorie drink impact impact our

(06:15):
blood sugar? Well, it boils down to a few key factors. First,
let's talk about artificial sweeteners. Diet coke primarily uses spar time.
Spart time is itself. It doesn't directly raise the blood
sugar levels, that's the sugar in your blood, but it
does and it can indirectly influence your blood's response to glucose.

(06:40):
And here's where it gets interesting. Some of this research
it suggests that artificial sweeteners can disrupt the delicate balance
of bacteria in your gut. Again, we talked about this often,
that your gut microbiome. This microbiome, it plays a huge
role in everything from digestion to immunity to you guessed it,
your blood show control. And when the balance is off,

(07:03):
it can lead to an impaired glucose tolerance. So now
let's be clear on this. This research is still evolving.
Not everyone experiences this effect, but several studies have indicated
this potential link. For example, a study that's been published
in the journal that Nature found that artificial sweeteners could

(07:27):
it could induce this blood this blood glucose intolerance in
healthy individuals by altering that gut microbiome. Now, this doesn't
mean you will develop diabetes if you drink diet coke,
but it does suggest a possible mechanism by which these
sweeteners could contribute to metabolic changes in the body. And
another study that was published in the American Journal of

(07:49):
Clinical Nutrition, it explored the impact of long term artificial
sweetener consumption on insulin sensitivity, and while the results were mixed,
some participants showed a decreased insulin sensitivity after a after
more exposure to artificial sweeteners. This insulin sensitivity is critical

(08:09):
because it determines how effectively your body uses insulin to
move glucose from your blood into your cells for energy.
In this reduced insulin sensitivity, it can lead to higher
blood sugar levels, and here it's also important to consider
the insulin response. This is basically your body's anticipation of

(08:30):
sugar and when you taste something sweet, even if it's
artificially sweetened, your body might start preparing for an influx
of glucose by releasing insulin, and if there's no actual
glucose that arrives, this can potentially lead to a blood
sugar dip, which then triggers cravings for something sweet or starchy.

(08:54):
So to get a clear picture, the study consulted experts
like Registered Dietis. They emphasize that while diet coke itself
doesn't contain sugar. The response to it can vary from
person to person, and some people they might not experience
any noticeable changes in blood sugar, while others they might

(09:14):
be more sensitive. And the study it also mentions that
more research is needed to fully understand the long term
effects of artificial sweeteners on blood sugar. In overall metabolic health,
it's not this black and white issue. Individual factors like genetics,
existing health conditions, and overall diet it plays a significant

(09:36):
role in this. So if we're looking for a takeaway,
should you ditch diet coke altogether, Well, that's a choice
that you will have to make. But here's some practical
advice to be mindful of your body's response. I want
you to pay attention to how you feel after consuming
diet coke. Do you experience cravings, energy crashes, are any

(09:58):
unusual symptoms? And I also want you to moderate your intake.
Don't rely on diet coca as your primary beverage. Variety
has to be key and water should always come first,
and I ask that you explore some alternatives. Consider unsweetened
sparkling water, herbal teas, or water that's infused with fruits

(10:19):
and vegetables. These are all great options for staying hydrated
without artificial sweeteners. And of course focus on a balanced diet.
A diet, a healthy diet should have have fiber, whole grains,
and lean proteins and that helps to regulate your blood
sugar levels and minimize the potential impact of artificial sweeteners.
All right, folks, So after the break, I want to

(10:41):
get into just a couple a couple of myths that
to bust up for you, and then we'll go ahead
and get into our health alternative of the week.

Speaker 4 (10:49):
You're listening to the Doctor Bob Martin Show.

Speaker 5 (11:02):
If you're a big sports fan like me, sometimes the
best part about watching a football game are the pre

The most important part of probiotics are the prebiotics and
post biotics that come along. Not all probiotics have this
superior combination. That's why I only buy Doctor o'heres probiotics.
You see, prebiotics feed the probiotic colonies and your intestines,

(11:24):
and post biotics are the organic nutrients produced by doctor
o'heres three year fermentation process that become the foundation for
long term colonization of the good bacteria in your body.
This is so important. No other probiotic formula has this.
As I get older, I want to protect my health

(12:49):
to two. That's where you're find Doctor Bob and I
to license positions and we're standing by to help you
unlock your best self. That's eight hundred six zero six
eight eight two to two. All right, let's get back
into it. We've been talking about diet coke and the
effect it can have on your blood sugar. And Folks,
before the break, I told you we're going to bust
up a few myths, so let's go ahead and get

(13:10):
into that. Some people they believe that diet coke can
help with weight loss because it's calorie free, and while
it's debatable if it's a better choice than sugary sodas,
it's not a magic bullet weight loss. It's a complex
and it depends on a variety of factors. And of
course we know and we talk about this often on

(13:31):
the show. It includes diet, exercise, and overall lifestyle changes.
So diet coke alone will not help you lose weight.
And another misconception is that artificial sweeteners they're completely harmless,
and as we've been discussing, they can have these potential
negative effects on our gut, microbiome and our blood sugar regulation.

(13:51):
So anything with artificial sweeteners, moderation has to be key.
So there you have it. That's the truth about diet
coke in your blood sugar. And remember, knowledge is power,
and I want you to be mindful of your body
and explore alternatives where necessary and prioritize that healthy lifestyle.
So and folks, I also want to hear from you.

(14:13):
Have you noticed any changes in your body after consuming
diet coke or other artificially swedened beverages. Share your experiences
with us. You can head over to our website at
Doctorbob dot com or again call us at eight hundred
and six zero six eight eight two two. All right,
let's go ahead and take it a step further with
our Health Alternative of the week. All right, folks, in

(14:56):
today's Health Alternatively week, we're going to continue tackling this
fizzy foe lurking in your refrigerator, and that's diet coke.
And you think you're doing yourself a favor. You know,
your cut those calories, but is it really worth it?
And look, I get it, you want that sweet that
bubbly fizz without the sugar crash. But diet coke it's

(15:21):
loaded with those artificial sweeteners. And studies that we talked
about today, they've linked these sweeteners to a whole host
of problems and including headaches, gut imbalances, and even the
potential links to more serious concerns down the road. Dare
I say that C word and cancer? But today we're

(15:43):
also going to talk about how it's messing with your metabolism.
And it's not just the sweeteners. It's the acidity in
diet coke. It can erode your tooth enamel over time.
Plus all those artificial ingredients, they can wreak havoc on
your gut microbiome and it leads to digestive issues and
it impacts your overall immunity. So that's a triple threat

(16:05):
to your well being. And it can also cause anxiety
and depression, and it's highly addictive, and the list goes
on and on. So this week's health alternative of the week,
we're talking about sparkling water infusion. And so again this
week it's a simple, it's a delicious and it's actually
good for you swamp. So if you think about sparkling water,

(16:29):
it's diet Coke's sophisticated health conscious cousin. If we start
with plains, sparkling water and no artificial sweeteners, then we
can get creative with other infusions, like a citrus purse.
If you add slices of lemon, lime and orange, you
have this zesty refreshing kick. Or if you like berries,

(16:49):
you can muddle some fresh berries like strawberries, raspberries and
blueberries for some natural sweetness and antioxidants. Or you can
use herbal infused like men in basil or even cucumber
for this calming and hydrating experience. You can add a
few slices of ginger for a spicy, digestive boosting delight.

(17:10):
And if you let it sit in your refrigerator for
about thirty minutes, it allows these flavors to meld together,
and the longer it sits, the more flavorful it becomes.
So why is this choice so much better? First you're
ditching those artificial sweeteners in all those questionable chemicals, and
second you're hydrating your body with pure, refreshing water. And

(17:33):
third you're getting a boost of vitamins, minerals, and anoxidants
from the fruits. The vegetables are the herbs that you're using.
And this is completely accustomizable. You can experience it with
different flavor combinations to find that sparkling water infusion that
you like the best. And it's a fun, it's a
healthy way to stay hydrated, and it's satisfying that those

(17:54):
cravings they can shift to something that is better for
you that's still fizzy in fla And now I know
what some of you thinking, But Doc, I need that
caffeine kick, and I hear you. If you're heavily reliant
on caffeine in the diet cokes or other soft drinks,
try gradually reducing your intake and replacing it with green

(18:15):
tea or maybe a small cup of black coffee. These
are options that provide a more natural and sustained energy
boost without those artificial additives. So this week I challenge
you to ditch the diet coke and give a sparkling
water infusion a try. And folks, again, share your flavor
your best flavor combinations with us either through our Facebook page,

(18:38):
you just look up the Doctor Bob Martin Show, and
let's help inspire each other to make healthier choices, one
sip at a time. This has been your health alternative
of the week. All right, let's get to a caller
or an email question from Caroline in Albany or again.

(18:58):
She says, I have roseatia. Can I use oclamed by
Wise Choice medicine. My doctor wants to put me on antibiotics,
and I just do not want to go on antibiotics
right now. My eyes are very dry. I use heat
eyelid cleansing wipes with T Tree oil and lubricating drops.
I just don't know what to do. Can you help me? Please?

(19:20):
All right, Caroline, thank you for your question. The short
answer is yes, if you prefer to try to avoid
using antibiotics, you can definitely try oklamed by Wise Choice Medicine,
and I would say to use it just as a
trial to start it out for that ocular roseationa dryness,
and while keeping keeping up with your routine that you're

(19:42):
using now with a T Tree oil, I would say
just start with one drop in each eye at night
for about two to three days, and if that's comfortable,
increase to twice daily and you can separate from the
other lubricating eye drops that you're using by at least
ten minutes. And if you if you use contact lenses,
I suggest trying to avoid using them for at least

(20:04):
at least this trial period. As far as to calm
those eyelids and try to restore some of those natural
oils around the eye, I would suggest using warm moist
compress for about eight to ten minutes daily and then
a gentle eyelid massage toward that lash line and using

(20:25):
those Tea Tree oil wipes. If it does do a
little bit of staining there, you may try to back
off on that, but if it's well tolerated, I would
continue using those and continue to stay in contact with
your doctor on this. If he's really pushing here or
she's really pushing for antibiotics, you may have to go

(20:47):
that route. But I would definitely suggest using the aclumed
by Wise Choice Medicine first as a first line of
defense for this. And then you can also while you
get in touch with them again, go to Wise Choice
Medicine dot com. You can ask about ARMED, which is
a great great support as well. That is a oral
supplement that you can can use. So again, oklumed in

(21:11):
Armed by Wise Choice Medicine.

Speaker 7 (21:14):
UH.

Speaker 3 (21:14):
And again you're doing many of those right things. If
you're you're using this acclaimed as a trial using ARMED,
maybe upload upgrade some of that lid care that you're
you're using the islet care and discuss those non antibiotics
options with your with your doctor. I think relief can
be realistic with this and UH, and you're gonna be

(21:34):
on the right track. So again, partner with your I
doctor to monitor that progress and adjust the plan if
if comfortable or that redness fails to improve, so again
try acclaimed by Wise Choice Medicine. Just head over to
Wise Choice Medicine dot com. All right, we're coming up
on a break. We'll be right back. You're listening to
the Doctor Bob Martin Show.

Speaker 5 (22:00):
Everybody's called the Fame mistakes, but everybody's got a choice
to make.

Speaker 8 (22:06):
Everybody needs to.

Speaker 9 (22:07):
Leave the faith money taking you us, money, you infus.

Speaker 3 (22:20):
All right, folks, welcome back. I'm doctor Adam Brockman. You're
listening to the Doctor Bob Martin Show. And before we
jump in back in the day's conversation, here's your reminder
to stay connected with us. Follow us on Instagram, Facebook,
x and we even have a YouTube channel for your
daily wellness tips, breaking health news in a community that's
as passionate about thriving as you are. All you got
to do is search for the Doctor Bob Martin Show

(22:42):
on your favorite platform and join in the conversation. And remember,
if you've got pressing health questions, we are just a
phone call away at eight hundred six zero six eighty
two two. That's eight hundred and six zero six eight
eighty two to two. All right, let's get back in
today's conversation and again earlier in the show, we were
talking about diet coke and how it can erode your
tooth enamel. And I also want to talk about your

(23:04):
unsung hero of your health, and that's your mouth. It's
the front door to your wellness and it deserves a
security system, not just a sticky note. And that's why
I choose the Spry Dental Defense system. It's not just
a toothpaste. It's a science based upgrade for your smile.
And the star ingredient is xylotol. That's a natural sweetener

(23:25):
that does far more than just taste good. It outsmarts
the bad guys, those cavity causing bacteria, and it cuts
off their food supply. And the translation is there's less acid,
less plaque in a fresher breath. If you think of
xylotol as a tiny bouncer, that tells the troublemakers not
in this mouth. So here's the quick science. Harmful mouth

(23:49):
bacteria love sugar. They ferment it into acid that erodes
the tooth enamel, and xylotol it looks like sugar to them,
but it's a dead end. No acid, no enamel attack
and you add in add In for a saliva boost
with xylotol, gum and mints by Spry, and you've got
nature's daily car wash for your teeth. And Spry builds

(24:12):
on that with a full lineup fluoride free toothpastes, alcohol
free mouthwashes, gum and mints all formulated to work together.
So if you want to know my routine, it's simple
and effective. I brush with Spry toothpaste, I rinse with
their mouthwash, and I choose Spry gum after meals. It's effortless,
it's dentist pleasing and noticeably fresh. If you want to

(24:36):
know a bonus, the flavors. They're clean and crisp, peppermint,
spearmint and cinnamon. They're refreshing without the burn or they
have any harsh aftertaste. And convenience matters too. You can
find Spry at CVS, Target, Sprouts and all natural grocers' locations,
places that you're already shopping. If you want to know more,

(24:57):
just go over to clear dot com. It's spelled x
L e A R dot com and those are the
innovators behind Spry in Clear nasal sprays. The bottom line,
great smiles aren't lucky, they're strategic. Give your mouth the
defense system it deserves to spry, and let the science
do the smiling, because a healthy smile isn't just happy,

(25:17):
it's powerful spray dental defense system. All right, let's get
into our health outrage of the week.

Speaker 7 (25:37):
For the health.

Speaker 10 (25:39):
Because it's nothing.

Speaker 7 (25:41):
But.

Speaker 3 (25:52):
This week we've got a health outrage that's not just outrageous,
it's downright terrifying. We're talking about our kids in a
sidel health concern that's creeping up on them. I'm talking
about high blood pressure. You heard me right. This isn't
just about your grandfather's or your grandparents' problems anymore. New

(26:13):
research is screaming that childhood hypertension has doubled worldwide in
recent decades. Doubled. That's not just slow creep, folks. That's
a rocket launch. Now. I don't just throw around these
scary numbers. This comes from a major study. It's a
global obesity crisis, and that is the major culprit behind us.

(26:36):
We're talking about kids as young as eight years old
developing a condition that used to be almost exclusively seen
in adults over fifty. Think about that for a second.
Eight year olds their bodies are put under the strain
of someone that shouldn't some condition that should be three,
four or five times their age. And so you're asking

(26:59):
why is this such a big deal, Because high blood pressure,
even in childhood, it's a ticking time bomb. We're talking
about an increased risk of chronic disease, all the things
we try to avoid as we get older. But these kids,
they're starting their lives already behind the eight ball, already
burdened with a condition that will shorten their life span
and diminish their quality of life. So imagine your kid

(27:22):
barely able to ride their bike, already on medication for
high blood pressure. I'm not just talking about their physical health.
I'm talking about the psychological impact, the anxiety, the limitations,
the constant awareness of their own mortality. This is a
tragedy that's waiting to happen. So what's driving this explosion

(27:44):
of this childhood hypertension. The study it points directly to
the global obesity crisis, and again it's spot on. We're
talking about a perfect storm of factors. Processed foods that
are loaded with sugar, salt and the unhealthy fats, sedentary
life styles that are dominated by screens. You know, this
lack of access to healthy, affordable food options, and these kids,

(28:08):
they're being bombarded with advertising for junk food from the
moment they wake up in the morning until they go
to sleep. They're being raised in environments that actively promote
unhealthy choices, and then we wonder why they're developing high
blood pressure. This isn't a mystery, folks, it's a direct
consequence of our choices as a society. So if we're

(28:29):
getting specific, what are these kids eating. If you think
about the typical American diet, the sad the standard American diet,
you're talking about sugary cereals for breakfast, process lunch meats
and white bread for lunch, and fast food for dinner.
And then their snacks are usually chips, cookies, candy, and
all the things that are loaded with sodium and sugar.

(28:51):
And so, folks, we need to get back to the basics,
real food, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, cooking at home,
reading the labels, and limiting these processed foods. And we're
not talking about just diet. We need to get these
kids moving, and not just organized sports, although those are great.

(29:12):
I'm talking about simple everyday activities like walking to school,
playing in the park, riding bikes, dancing, anything that gets
their hearts pumping, in their in their bodies moving. So again,
if we limit the screen time, get them outside, make
it fun, turn off the TV, maybe go for a
family hike. These are things that should be done instead

(29:33):
of video games. Now, I know what some of you
are thinking, but my kids are piggy eaters, and I
get it. Parenting is hard. But here's the truth. You're
the role model. Your kids are watching you. If you're
eating junk food and sitting on the couch looking at
your screen, they're going to do the same. So we
need to lead by example. Make healthy choices for yourself

(29:56):
and your kids will follow. Cook healthy meal together, exercise
as a family, show them that healthy living is not
a punishment, but it's a reward. Everybody will feel better.
So if we're looking at this, let's recap childhood hypertension.
This is the outrage and it's a serious and growing problem.

(30:17):
It's largely driven by the global obesity crisis. But it's
not inevitable. We can do something about it. So here's
your call to action this week. Make one small change
to improve your family's health. Cut out sugary drinks, or
go for a walk together, cook a healthy meal at home.
Just one small step can make the difference. This has
been your health outrage of the week, and you're listening

(30:40):
to the Doctor Bob Martin Show. We'll be right back.

All right, let's get back today's conversation with our product
recall of the week. If you or your child takes

(35:00):
generic Byvans, listen up. A nationwide recall is underway because
some capsules may not dissolve properly, meaning you might not
be getting the full effect of a medication. Regulators have
announced a voluntary nationwide recall of select lots of didex
a metaphine, which is the generic form of by Vans,
after failed disillusion testing and plain English. Certain batches don't

(35:24):
break down as aspected in a body that can leave
blood levels lower or inconsistent, so the medication can feel
weaker or wear off sooner. This recall spans multiple strengths,
commonly through ten to seventy milligrams, and authorities emphasize that
this is not just about acute toxicity. It's the main
risk is the reduced therapeutic benefit. So if your routine

(35:46):
has felt off, more distracted, more restless, less steady, that
could be why So for students, professionals and families who
rely on the consistent symptom control, underperformed medication has consequences,
like I said, the productivity, the mood regulation, even driving safely.
So the goal today is simple. Check whether your bottle

(36:08):
came from one of these affected lots and if so,
get it replaced promptly. So again, confirm the name it's
lists Dexa metaphine and check your strength, look for the
lot number and if available, the NDC and some retail
labels don't show the lots, so all you got to
do is ask your pharmacists and they can check that
in seconds, and if it's affected, your pharmacy will advise

(36:32):
on return and replacement. So don't discard the medication until
you've spoken with them, and don't stop your medication abruptly.
Talk to your prescriber first. If you notice any any symptoms,
ask for replacement from an unaffected lot, the timing adjustments
or maybe a short term alternative, but only under clinical guidance.

(36:52):
So these local pharmacists they're prepared for this. Call ahead
in with your fill date, in the exact product name
and strength, or bring your bottle to the counter. They'll
confirm the lot and walk you through the steps. So
the bottom line this generic bivance the capsules, if they're
part of this affected lots, you may not be getting
that reliable benefit. So check your bottle, check, call your pharmacy,

(37:13):
and coordinate with your prescriber, and keep those daily habits
dialed in until you get that swap for unaffected lots.
All right, So full details can be available at FDA
dot gov. This' has been your product recall of the week.
All right. Let's get to an email from Lisa in Danville, Kentucky,

(37:34):
and the question is what can be done for venus reflux?
All right? List, So that's an excellent question, and believe me,
you're not alone and wondering about this one. So let's
unpack it. What exactly venus reflux actually is and how
we can treat it. In simple terms, it's when the
tiny one way valves in your leg veins, which normally

(37:55):
help move blood upward towards the heart, they start to
weaken and instead of flowing the right way, blood can
start to pool or even flow backwards. That's when you
can see or feel those familiar symptoms, the swelling, the aching,
the heaviness, or those visible varicos or spider veins. Now,
the great news is there are solutions, both natural and medical.

(38:16):
And first let's go with the lifestyle and natural medicine side,
because as you know, prevention and self care are always
step one in our book, all right, So movement is medicine.
If you're sitting or standing too long, that can make
your venus reflux worse. Simple changes like walking breaks every
thirty minutes or cafe raises at your desk, or elevating

(38:36):
your legs above your heart level for fifteen ten to
fifteen minutes a day can make a big difference. And
I also suggest compression therapy. This is one of the
most effective non surgical solutions. Compression stockings can help help
your veins push the blood upward, reducing that swelling in
the fatigue. Just make sure they're properly fitted your local

(38:57):
pharmacy or even a vein clinic can help with that.
And if we talk about weight and nutrition, that extra
body weight adds pressure to those veins, So I suggest
eating an anti inflammatory diet that's loaded with leafy greens, berries, garlic,
and citrus. And if we're talking about natural therapies are supplementation,
I suggest chyolic age garlic extract in particular the cardiovascular

(39:21):
formula in folks. I also want to recommend that you
see a qualified functional medicine professional or provider. If you
are on blood blood thinners, you need to ask your
health care provider as far as medical interventions go, if necessary,
if the home care and the lifestyle adjustments they just
aren't quite cutting it. Today's vein treatments are more advanced

(39:44):
and less invasive than ever. For instance, there's indovenous laser
therapy or radio frequency ablazon and those seal off those
faulty veins just using gentle heat. And there's also sclerotherapy
that's a minimally invasive and therapy. It's another option for
spider and vericos veins. So these modern surgeons, they can

(40:05):
perform these in office procedures with little downtime in great
long term results. And remember, treating venus reflux isn't just
about the looks. If it's left unchecked, it can lead
to serious issues like skin breakdown or ulcers. So the
recipe move often elevate the legs, wear compression, and nourish

(40:25):
those veins naturally, and seek evaluation if the symptoms legger.
Supporting your veins before they give you the grief. So again,
I love to remind people your veins they're like highways
carrying the traffic of life. You treat them kindly, keep
the lanes clear, and your whole system runs better. So
that's a great question, Lisa. And if you miss any
of that, don't worry. You can catch catch it on

(40:47):
replay or get the details over on our podcast library
at doctor Bob dot com. All right, folks, stay tuned.

back to the Doctor Bob Martin Show. I'm your co host,
Doctor Adam Brockman, and we've already reached the final segment
of our final hour. And you know what that means.
It's time for our weekly dose of head scratching symptoms
sleuthing in our health mystery of the week. All right, folks,

(43:38):
this week's mystery comes to us from a listener in
sunny Scottsdale, Arizona. Gwinn. She's in her forties, generally healthy,
she exercises regularly, and she eats a pretty good diet,
but for the last six months she's been plagued by
a bizarre set of symptoms. She's been experiencing intense itching,

(43:59):
but only on her palms in the soles of her feet,
and it's not constant, but it comes in waves, often
at night. She's also noticed a persistent metallic taste in
her mouth, occasional nausea, in a fatigue that just won't
quit no matter how much sleep she's getting. So she's
seen her doctor who's ran some basic blood tests, but

(44:19):
everything's came back normal. So Gwenn she's she's stumped, she's frustrated,
and frankly, she's losing sleep. So, folks, what's going on
with Gwenn? What could be causing this strange combination of symptoms.
Let's break it down. This itching, especially localized on the
palms and souls, is a key clue. And while it
could be something simple like exema or a fungal infection,

(44:42):
the metallic taste in the fatigue that throws a wrench
in the history in the theory here. One possibility that
we need to consider is cola stasis. Now again, cola
stasis spelled c h O l E S T A
S I S. It's a condition where the flow of
bile from the liver is reduced or blocked. So bile

(45:04):
is essential for digesting fats, in eliminating waste products, and
when it backs up it can cause this intense itching,
in particular in the extremities. And that then you add
in that metallic taste and the nausea, it could be
related to the liver struggling to process toxins. So again,
another another common but less important possibility is to consider

(45:26):
is a vitamin B twelve deficiency, and while often associated
with neurological symptoms like numbness or tingling, severe B twelve
deficiencies can sometimes manifest as that fatigue, the nausea, in
even a change in taste. And while the itching, while
it's not a classic symptom, it could relate to nerve irritation.
So here's where it gets tricky. Gwinn's doctor ran these

(45:48):
basic blood tests, and often these tests don't offer include
a comprehensive liver panel or a sensitive B twelve tests.
The measures that act to B twelve blow And then
the key takeaway here, folks, is for you to be
your own best doctor. Ask for those tests. Don't settle
for normal blood tests. If you're experiencing these unexplained symptoms,

(46:08):
ask the questions, research your condition, and seek out a
healthcare provider who's willing to dig deeper and consider all
the possibilities. And so again here here we go with
this the health mystery of the week, and remember to
be that advocate for yourself, be your own best doctor.
