Speaker 2 (02:36):
Caller phone number. We'll get to calls a little bit
later in this hour, so stand by.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
But I thought I would begin this hour talking about
a subject which nobody really wants to consider or think
about ever getting or having. The word itself strikes fear
in the mind of all people. It's the big C.
I do mean cancer. But the reality is here in
the US, one in two women and one in three
(03:05):
men will develop cancer sometime in their lifetime.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
Look it up. It's a fact.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
One and two women and one in three men will
develop cancer in their lifetime. But my suggestion, my goal
for you, is to help you reduce that risk big time.
Avoid it all together, die old in your sleep with
a smile on your face, like blazing guns going off
the stage. That would be the ideal way to go.
(03:33):
But that's not how normally people go. They get caught
off guard, never believing it'll be them. They'll never get it,
it's somebody else, and yet they get it. I want
to talk to you today extensively about five foods and
one drink that if you are involved with these foods
(03:54):
and drink, you ratchet ratchet up your risk of cancer
the big CE. So knowing these things, maybe you can
do everything you can to reduce your exposure to these
foods and one drink so that you can.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
Reduce your risk.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
That's the idea, and I get it eating these foods
which you'll recognize, and this drink people do. And you
might say, well, I've been eating those foods all my
life and I've.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
Been drinking that.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
I don't have cancer. That's good, But cancer sneaks up
on people. Nobody ever thinks they're going to get it
until they do. One out of two men, I'm sorry,
one out of two women, and one out of three men.
This is going to help you dodge the big sea bullet.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
Perhaps.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
Look, cancer is a complex, very complex disease. There are
many different types of cancers, as well as many potential
causes of cancer. Although we still don't know all of
the answers, what is known is that a variety of
factors can contribute to the development of cancer. You've got
(05:07):
genetic makeup and family history, but I want you to
know that genetic makeup and family history plays a very
small role in the potential risk to develop cancer than
previously believed.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
Everybody you know in the past and they.
Speaker 3 (05:25):
Said, well, yeah, my mom had it, my dad had it,
my brother had it, my aunt had it.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
I'm going to get it.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
No, no, no, don't believe that. That's what the old
belief system was. Now we know better than that external
factors that you may have a great deal of control
over are much more likely to increase your risk or
decrease your risk of the big sea and I do
(05:51):
mean cancer. We're talking about certain lifestyle habits have a
greater impact on your cancer risk than your family history,
of your genetics. In fact, research now shows the most
up to date science based research shows that eighty to
ninety percent of malignant tumors cancer are related to external factors,
(06:18):
not your genetics, not your family history. So what's that mean, Well,
it means that you are in a substantial control over
those factors. Now, granted, you can't change the air if
you're outdoors, if you're in a polluted city, or exposure
that you're unaware of that you come in contact with.
(06:39):
But you can certainly make better decisions about what you
put in your mouth food wise, what you drink fluid wise,
what you apply to your skin cosmetically.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
Thoughts you think there you go down the line.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
One of the most important lifestyle factors to consider is
your diet, the decision you make on what you eat.
That's because a large body of scientific research has shown
that some foods are associated with a higher risk of
certain types of cancer. That's not debatable anymore longer. It's
(07:14):
true some foods can increase your risk of type two
diabetes and obesity, which are associated with certain types of cancer.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
Let me repeat that.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
So, if you allow yourself to become a type two diabetic,
and it looks like about a third of our society
right now is either pre diabetic or diabetic, a third
over one hundred million people right now. That's what the
statistic show. Look it up for yourself, and the way
you conduct your lifestyle and the food you eat and
(07:48):
or the exercise you do or don't do, and the
weight you gain all can increase your susceptibility to certain
types of cancer. Other foods can carcinogens. We talk about
it here all the time, about the carcinogens that are
in the produce style, in the fruits and veggies that
(08:09):
are sprayed with these pesticides and other agents to keep
them from rotting, and then they go into your body
and guess what, not good things happen. So we don't
want that to happen to you. And for brevity's sake,
I want you to consider this topic broadly. So let's
look at six foods that are common foods in the
(08:34):
standard American diet which stands for sad diet. Six foods well,
actually five foods and one drink that may increase your
risk of the Big Sea cancer. The six that I
would like to focus on reducing if possible, and if
(08:55):
you are so inclined, are the following. You may write
this down, or maybe if you don't get it all,
you can also go back and listen to it in
the podcast library, because it'll be in my podcast library
over my website as well at doctor Bob dot com
spelling out the word doctor doctor.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
Bob dot com.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
Number one on that list is processed meats, and yes,
every single one of these, at some time or another
in my life I have consumed, not understanding the gravity
of my decision or my lack of education about them.
Processed meats are a big time problem with ratcheting up
(09:39):
the risk of cancer.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
Number two is fried foods.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
Oh did I consume a lot of fried foods my
first twenty years of life. A lot of French fries
went into my pie hole. Oh man, I love French fries.
Don't eat them anymore? The oh you've got also over
cooked foods, foods that get cooked to death. Then you
(10:07):
have dairy products. We're talking about milk, we're talking about cheese. Yes,
it's on the list of five foods that increase your
risk of cancer. The next one on the list sugar
and refined carbohydrates, basically junk food. Cancer sells love sugar,
they love fermentation of sugar. And lastly, which is not
(10:30):
a food, it's a drink. Alcohol. And yes, occasionally, old
Doctor Bob on a celebration or something like my recent
fiftieth year wedding anniversary, I took a shot of alcohol.
So but regular exposure to alcohol absolutely is a cancer
(10:50):
causing agent. We're going to get into this, ladies and gentlemen,
you don't want to miss it. You're tuned into the
Doctor Bob Martin Showing's gonna be's gonna be okay, it's

What a hell incredible, Thank you Wakanaga. All right now,
if you're just tuning into the program, we are talking
(13:22):
about five foods and one drink that if you try
to reduce your exposure to them, you're going to reduce
also at the very same time, your risk of cancer.
This is not some conjecture here, this is solid scientific information. Now,
some people won't want to hear it because some of
(13:43):
the favorite their favorite foods are those that are at
a great risk if you consume them to ratchet up
your risk of cancer. I just mentioned one in the
last segment talking about my previous habit when I was
very young, of eating French fries until I couldn't eat anymore.
(14:03):
I love French fries. Do I eat them anymore? Heck no?
Why do I want cancer? That's why I avoid fried
foods like the plague. And hopefully you will too. Now,
in the last segment, I named those foods and one
drink that when you consume them on a regular basis.
This doesn't mean that every once in a while, if
(14:25):
you eat a processed piece of meat, let's say, a
piece of salami or pepperoni on a pizza that you eat,
you're not gonna you know, it's not that you're gonna
die I eat one time, but it's people who eat
these foods on a regular, ongoing basis, and the more
you consume of them, the higher the risk of the
big sea I do mean cancer goes up. We're here
(14:47):
talking about those foods being processed meats of any sort,
which I'll get into the whys shortly. Here, fried foods
of any style or type, overcook foods, dairy products. I'm
talking about milk and cheese, cow milk and cheese, sugar
(15:07):
and refined carbohydrates. Yes, they increase your risk of cancer.
Cancer cells love sugar, that's their fuel. And lastly, a
drink alcohol. We know one hundred percent that if somebody
drinks alcohol on a regular basis, it increases the risk
of cancer.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
It does.
Speaker 3 (15:28):
Don't let anybody talk you out of that, no matter
how much they are committed to drinking their alcohol and
once in a while it's not going to hurt you.
That's not what I'm talking about here, folks. I'm talking
about the regular consumption of these things. Let's begin with
defining what processed meats are about. Processed meats are really
any type of meat that's been preserved by smoking, salting,
(15:51):
what else, curing, canning, all that. Most processed meats are
red meats. Some examples of the red meats that's been
processed include hot dogs, salami, sausage, ham, corn.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
Beef, and beef jerky.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
If you are a high consumer of those processed meats
that I just mentioned, you are at a greater risk
of the development of cancer.
Speaker 2 (16:17):
You are.
Speaker 3 (16:18):
The methods used to make these processed meats can create
these carcinogens, cancer causing agents. For example, curing meat with
nitrite can form these carcinogens called nitrosamine compounds. So smoking
the meat can also lead to carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons
(16:42):
or pa hs PAHs. Processed meats is known and well
established as a major risk factor for colorectal cancer. You're
hearing about all these cases of rectal cancer going up well,
more and more people eating these processed meat. A scientific
review also found a link to these processed meats we're
(17:05):
talking about again, hot dog, salami, sausage, ham, corn, beef,
and beef jerky. Unless you're making your own, you're not
using the nitrates and all the chemicals they put in
them to preserve them. They also are linked to a
higher risk of stomach cancer. You don't want that for sure,
And according to a twenty nineteen trusted source review, processed
(17:28):
meat is a major risk factor as I mentioned, for
colorectal cancer. A different twenty nineteen trusted source review also
found link to as I.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
Mentioned, stomach cancer.
Speaker 3 (17:41):
Then you have another review that I'm looking at where
researchers determined that a high consumption of processed meat was
associated with an increased risk of breast cancer. So there
you have three different cancers at least that are associated
with cancer. Breast cancer, stomach cancer, and colorectal cancer. Processed meats.
(18:03):
Are they really worth continuing eating the hot dogs of
the salami, the sausage, the corn, beef and beef jerky
on a regular basis once in a while.
Speaker 2 (18:12):
I don't know, no problem.
Speaker 3 (18:14):
I don't eat these ever, but if it just breaks
your heart to give them up, just every once in
a while and give yourself a treat maybe and have them.
Here's another scientific review. These meats causing big time trouble.
I mean, I could go on and on, but we'd
need to move on to the next category, and that
(18:35):
would be in the food. Category of five foods that
increase your cancer is fried foods. Now, when these starchy
foods like potatoes are cooked at high temperatures, a compound
called a kryllamite is formed. We're talking about French fries now, okay,
and fried foods. This can happen during the frying, baking, roasting,
(18:55):
and toasting depending on the temperature. Fried starchy foods are
especially high in this element called acrylamide. We've all consumed it.
It's all about dose. The more you eat of it,
the worse off you're gonna be and the higher risk
you'll be at developing cancer. We're talking about fried potatoes
like French fries, potato chips, all of that. And according
(19:17):
to a scientific review, a krylamide was found to be
carcinogenic in studies done on the animal model. The International
Agency for research on cancer considers it a probable carcinogen
in humans. A krylamide from fried foods, and according to
(19:38):
a twenty twenty study, a chylamide also damages our DNA.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
So eating a.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
Lot of fried foods and look, I get that they
make the food taste better. I remember my taste Budge
used to absolutely dance when I put fried foods in
my mouth. I don't do it anymore because I don't
care about my taste, Bud's dancing or the pleasure that
I get. I want to live long and prosper and
(20:07):
have optimal health to enjoy all the other things in life.
And eating a lot of fried foods and not only
increases your risk of DNA damage and cancer, it ratchets
up your risk of type two diabetes and obesity. These
conditions can also promote what is called oxidative damage and inflammation,
furthering your risk of You guessed it the big sea
(20:29):
and I do mean cancer. Okay, So we've covered two
foods so far, being processed meats and fried foods. What's next, Well,
you'll learn after this break what's next On the list
of five foods in one drink that increases cancer risk,
(20:50):
so stay.
Speaker 2 (20:51):
Right where you are.
Speaker 3 (20:52):
We'll come back with more information here on the Doctor

Speaker 2 (22:49):
Here on The Doctor Bob Martin Show.
Speaker 3 (22:52):
Before we get back to a continuation of the five
foods and one drink that may increase your risk of
the big sea cancer nobody wants, let's remind you about superfruits.
This is sort of like the almost like an antidote
to the conversation we're having. The antidote, which means it
(23:17):
sort of counters the conversation we're having, and it has
to do with fruit. We know that fruit, especially superfruits.
One considered superfruit to think about is ronia berry. Have
you heard of them? Do you know about ernia berries?
Well you should because ronia berries are considered one of
(23:40):
the kings of superfruits because they're rich in nutrients that
your body needs to protect your health and repair damaged tissue.
And also, ronia berries are very high in antioxidants. Antioxidants
oxidation in the body is damaging to all tissues by
making antioxidants. It counters that ronia berries contain something called
(24:07):
phenolic compounds, which are naturally in the plant to help
the plant resist disease and premature death.
Speaker 2 (24:15):
So there you go.
Speaker 3 (24:17):
Our medicine really is our food, and our food is
our medicine. When ronium berries are ingested by humans, they
have been shown to provide anti inflammatory properties and may
even help to prevent certain types of a whole long
list of a variety of health related problems like cancer
like diabetes, cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, liver disease, and metabolic
(24:43):
disorters by simply eating ronia berries and including them in
your diet. And it's also worthy to note here that
scientific studies have proven that subsequently published research in peer
reviewed scientific journals show that consuming ronia berries and their
(25:04):
many health giving compounds were found to help reduce your
risk of developing the flu. So they're anti influenza.
Speaker 2 (25:14):
They are. So now you can.
Speaker 3 (25:18):
Purchase at the grocery store ronia berries and eat them,
or if you want, you can find a convenient way
to take them in and get the benefits of all
the ronia berries without having to purchase them in terms
of the produce if you can find them, because sometimes,
depending on the time of the year, they're hard to find.
But yet we know aronia berries as a nutritional supplement
(25:40):
can help as well, and that's why Ronia Berry Complex
was invented by a company by the name of Terry
Naturally Vitamins. It contains a Ronia berry extract AB forty
which delivers a concentrated and consistent source of this amazing
super fruit. Additionally, Aronia Berry Complex includes French grape seed
(26:05):
Extract VX one grape seed extract and incredibly affective botanical
for strong heart muscle function, arterial protection, healthy blood pressure levels,
and cholesterol balance. So look for Aronia Berry Complex the
nutritional supplement at finer health food stores everywhere. It's under
the brand label Terry Naturally Vitamins. You can also go
(26:27):
to Terry Naturallyivitamins dot com to find Aronia Berry Complex.
Aronia Berry Complex at Terry Naturally Vitamins dot com. All right,
back to the conversation about the six well actually five
foods and one drink that increase cancer risk. We want
(26:51):
you to know about it. Now we've covered two of those,
processed meats and fried foods, let's move on to overcooked
foods and also, yes, increase your risk of a very
serious and complicated and mysterious disease we call cancer. Over
Cooking foods, especially meats, can produce carcinogens, cancer causing agents.
(27:15):
According to a scientific review, cooking meat with high heat
creates these carcinogenic PAH's, these heterocyclic amines, and other compounds
other substances which may increase your risk of cancer by
altering the DNA of your cells.
Speaker 2 (27:35):
You don't want to do that.
Speaker 3 (27:37):
You're more likely to overcook foods when you cook with
high temperatures or over an open flame. This includes cooking
methods like grilling, barbecuing, and pan frying. And again I'm
not saying never do this, but if you're doing it
on a frequent basis, you're at a greater risk. Once
(27:57):
in a while, you throw it on a barbie in
the backyard on a holiday, no big deal. It's the
constant usage and exposure that we're really talking about here.
Please take away from this conversation that messaging and to
reduce your risk of these carcinogens from high heated cooking.
Try using healthier cooking methods. How about poaching and pressure
(28:23):
cooking and baking or roasting at low temperatures or slow
cooking in a crockpot or slow cooker. That's how you
overcome those risks of the high heat, open flame, the burn,
the charring that these carcinogens are created through. All right,
next we move on to the.
Speaker 2 (28:44):
Next category, dairy products.
Speaker 3 (28:47):
That's on the list of five foods and one drink
that may increase your risk of cancer. There's some evidence
that dairy may increase the risk of prostate cancer. Dairy
food include on this list. It's a short list milk
and cheese, and according to a scientific review, eating dairy
(29:08):
increases levels of an insulin like growth factor called IGF one.
This is associated with a higher risk of prostate cancer.
IGF one may increase the proliferation or production of prostate
cancer cells. In addition, the type of dairy may play
(29:29):
a role, according to this review. And we're talking about
you know, milk and cheese. Now, a better choice would
be sour stuff like yogurt, keifer, buttermilk, and some other
you know soured products that have those healthier probiotic elements
to them. All right, we're gonna come back with our
(29:51):
next category, sugar and refined carbohydrates.
Speaker 2 (29:53):
I'm doctor Bob Martin.
Speaker 4 (30:00):
I'm a bush of number signoncible, the one never single.
Speaker 3 (30:26):
I Well, I sure hope you are enjoying and benefiting
by the health content we're putting out today. And if
you like it and you think others could benefit by it,
do invite them to the program. Simply jot down the
call letters of the radio station you're listening to right now,
(30:50):
the call letters, and then is it an am r
FM station you're listening to, so you can properly refer
other people to this program, people you care about, people
you want to be healthier and.
Speaker 2 (31:00):
Have quality of life.
Speaker 3 (31:02):
And then the frequency on the dial shot that down
in the time of the day, and then pass that
information onto everyone you know so they can tune into
the program to hear all about the health related items
we bring to the table. And if you're just tuning
into the program, we are going through a list of
five foods and one drink that may increase your risk
(31:26):
of cancer, especially when you consume or expose yourself to
these foods and drink on a regular basis. I mean,
if you think of all the other chemicals we come
in contact with, this isn't the only game in town here,
but this is a substantial portion of it. Because we
consume food every day and drink every day. All the
(31:47):
other chemicals are just like side notes that just add
to the toxic burden or load. As we continue down
the list of items we started with as to meats,
we went to fried foods, then overcooked meats, on foods.
Speaker 2 (32:08):
And dairy.
Speaker 3 (32:09):
We now arrive at the next one on the list,
which is the.
Speaker 2 (32:16):
Fifth food.
Speaker 3 (32:18):
If you want to call it that, it's really a sweetener,
but it's in the foods category, and that is sugar
and refined carbohydrates. Why is that related to the risk
of cancer? It is one hundred percent proof positive that
eating sugar, refined sugar, and so much of our food
(32:42):
today is full of sugar.
Speaker 2 (32:43):
You look at it, I don't care.
Speaker 3 (32:45):
Go down the cereal aisle and start reading the ingredients
on the box in the back of the cereal that
you're feeding yourself or your family. I don't care if
it's Captain crunch or cocoa puffs or fruit loops, it's
full of sugar you don't need, or one not only
doesn't pack the calories onto your body and excessive weight
leading to obesity, which is a risk in and of
(33:06):
itself of developing cancer. But sugar itself is the food
that cancer loves. That's why when they do pet scans
to find out where the cancer is, they're doing a
radioactive tracer so that that tracer finds the area where
there's metabolic activity, where cancer is because it's chowined out
on sugar, lights it up. Sugar and refined carbohydrates. Eating
(33:31):
on a regular.
Speaker 2 (33:32):
Basis does increase your risk of cancer. There's no question.
Speaker 3 (33:34):
And there's nobody that likes sugar more than this person me.
But I try my best. Sugar flesh is weak. I
try my best to avoid sugar whenever and wherever possible
and go to alternative sweeteners. There's plenty of them to
choose from in the health food stores. You just need
to find out what they are. Sugar and refined carbohydrates.
(33:55):
Sugar foods and refined carbohydrates, especially alt process carbs, can
direct and indirectly increase your risk of cancer. For example,
sugar sweetened beverages I used to be the Mountain Dew King.
I drank Mountain Dew like it was running out of
It was going out of style. One of the highest
caffeine contents of any drink. Not only that, it's jam
(34:18):
full of sugars, usually ten to twelve teaspoons. You've got
baked goods, You've got white pasta, white bread, sugary cereals.
Speaker 2 (34:27):
The list goes on.
Speaker 3 (34:30):
Eating a high concentration of sugar, eat starchy foods may
put you at an increased risk of developing type two
diabetes and obesity. As you heard in the earlier segments,
if you develop type two diabetes and obesity, you're automatically
at risk of cancer. Both conditions promote inflammation and oxidative stress,
(34:52):
which means your body's going to rust inside, so to speak,
much more faster than if it didn't have oxidative stres
and you want to control oxidative stress, minimize it, not
increase it. By eating sugar and refined carbohydrates, spiking your
cortisol levels. This may increase your risk of certain types
(35:12):
of cancer. We know this and according to a twenty
nineteen scientific source review, type two diabetes increases the risk
of ovarian cancer, breast cancer, and endometrio or uterine cancer.
So you don't want type two diabetes or pre diabetes.
And if your doctor is telling you you have pre
diabetes and they're just going to keep an eye on
(35:34):
it until you become diabetic so they can start treatment,
run don't walk. Run don't walk to another health practitioner
who can actually stop the diabetes and reverse it. A
doctor who's trained in functional medicine or integrative medicine. That
would be like a doctor who's trained in holistic medicine,
could be any kind of doctor, could be a nature
(35:55):
pathic physician, a chiropractic physician, a homeopathic physician, or MDDO
that's trained in integrative or functional medicine. High sugar intake
in these carbohydrates does lead to all kinds of problems,
high glucose levels, which adds to your risk of colorectal cancer.
So you want to limit your carbohydrates and try to
(36:16):
swap them out for foods that are healthier, like one
hundred percent whole organic whole grain bread, one hundred percent
organic whole grain pasta, or one hundred percent organic brown rice,
or one hundred percent organic oats. That's what you want
to have instead of the other stuff because all those
other grains that that you're eating that are not organic
(36:38):
are exposed to glyphosate and other toxic pesticides and his sexticides.
And in our last segment we'll get to the final element,
which is a drink that ratchets up cancer. So stand
by you're tuned into the Doctor Bob Martin Show, tell
(37:17):

five foods that you ingest on a regular basis, of course,
and one drink may increase your risk of cancer. We've

(38:35):
eight hundred six zero six eighty eight twenty two. All right,
let's get to the final category here, which is really
not a food.
Speaker 2 (38:42):
It's a drink. It's alcohol.
Speaker 3 (38:43):
When you consume alcohol, your liver breaks down alcohol into
something called acetylaldehyde, a carcinogenic compound.
Speaker 2 (38:51):
Alcohol is not health food. I don't care what anybody
tells you. It's not. Do I occasionally take a sip
of alcohol? Yes?
Speaker 3 (38:57):
I do, at certain occasions, certain celebrations like my fiftieth
year wedding anniversary. Yes I consumed some alcohol, but not
on a regular basis. According to a scientific review acety,
acetyl aldehyde promotes DNA damage and oxidative stress. It also
interferes with your immune function, making it difficult for your
body to target pre cancerous and cancerous cells and women,
(39:21):
Alcohol increases estrogen level in the body. This is linked
with the higher risk of estrogen receptor positive breast cancer.
Don't do that if you don't want breast cancer regular
alcohol exposure. Now you might be saying, well, gosh, doctor Bob,
you took away all my foods.
Speaker 2 (39:38):
What can I do? What can I eat?
Speaker 3 (39:39):
How about lowering your risk of cancer by eating fresh
fruits and vegetables that are almost always organic. How about
eating more nuts. Scientific reviews show that raw nuts reduce
inflammation and reduce cancer risk. Means rich in fiber lowering
colorectal cancer risk one hundred percent, whole grain again like quenewa, amaranth,
(40:02):
brown rice, millet. All these sinks lower your cancer risk.
Fish with their high omega fats lower certain forms of
cancer like breast and colorectal cancer. Bottom line, process meets
over cooked foods and fried foods may increase your risk
of certain cancers.
Speaker 2 (40:21):
You have the control over that, and.
Speaker 3 (40:24):
Alcohol drinking the control over that to reduce your risk.
Speaker 2 (40:28):
What will you do?
Speaker 3 (40:30):
Your call and whatever decision you make, it's the right
one for you. You've been tuned into the Doctor Bob Martinshell.
I encourage you to be well.
