(01:22):
So let's talk about your gut microbiome. It's a bustling
ecosystem of trillions of micro organisms that are living in
your digestive track, these tiny powerhouses. They play a massive
role in your health, from nutrient metabolism, to immune function,
to inflammation and even your mood. But your gut health

(01:48):
isn't just about what you eat, It's about how you move.
That's right. Exercise isn't just for your muscles in your heart,
it's for your gut too. So in this hour, we're
going to break down the surprising connection between exercise in
your gut microbiome and how we can transform your health,

(02:11):
and why plant based nutraceuticals are the secret weapon for
optimizing gut health and boosting natural immunity. Plus, we're going
to bring in a special guest on this topic, one

(03:17):
All right, folks, I want you to ditch the gut
health is just about your diet, and I want to
help you unlock your body's innate power to heal. So
let's go into this a little bit deeper. That gut microbiome,
like I mentioned, is a fascinating ecosystem of trillions of microorganisms.
You got bacteria, viruses, fung gui and more in there,

(03:41):
and they reside in your digestive track. These tiny inhabitants,
they play a critical role in your overall health, influencing
everything from nutrient absorption in your immune function, to inflammation
and even mental well being. Think of that as a
bustling city within your body. In each microbe it has

(04:02):
a specific job to keep your system, your entire body
running smoothie. This recent research by UCLA has revealed that
the gut microbiome it's highly adaptable. It responds to external
factors like diet, lifestyle, and exercise. For instance, a diet

(04:23):
that's rich in fiber, in plant based foods, they it
promotes the growth of beneficial bacteria, while processed foods and
antibiotics they disrupt that delicate balance. But one of the
most exciting discoveries was that the profound impact that exercise
has on gut health. Exercise isn't just about building muscle

(04:47):
or improving your cardiovascular health. It also is a powerful
tool for shaping that gut microbiome. The UCLA study has
shown that physical activity can significantly alter the composition of
the diversity of your gut bacteria, creating an environment where
beneficial microbes they thrive. So, if we're talking about this,

(05:10):
the intensity of exercise matters. Both the moderate and intense
exercise had been shown to influence the gut microbiome by
increasing the oxygen flow to the gut, create an environment
where beneficial bacteria can flourish. So we're thinking about here,
we're thinking about weight training or pliometric type of training

(05:31):
or CrossFit. All these things help to prove that oxygen
flow to the gut. On the other hand, if you're
using low intensity exercise such as walking or yoga, it
can improve your gut motility or mobility, reducing the time
it takes for your food to move through your digestive track.

(05:51):
This is crucial for maintaining a healthy microbiome by because
it ensures that waste products are efficiently removed, preventing the
build up of harmful bacteria. So it's research is highlighting
the connection between cardiorespiratory fitness and gut health. So these
individuals with higher fitness levels tend to have a more

(06:12):
diverse and balanced microbiome. This is likely due to that
increase in the blood flow in the oxygen delivery to
the gut during exercise, which helps support the growth of
beneficial bacteria. Exercise has also been shown to reduce the
inflammation in the gut, which is a key factor in
preventing conditions like IBS, inflammatory bowel disease in colon cancer.

(06:37):
Even so, if you're increased in the antioxidant levels. In
improving immune function, exercise helps create a gut environment that
is less prone to inflammation and disease. And while this
exercise is showing to play a significant role in shaping
the gut microbiome, it's only part of this equation. We

(06:58):
talk about diet often and that's equally important, and the
combination of exercise and diet can create the synergistic effect
that optimizes your gut health. So this is where the
plant based nutriceuticals come into play. Plant based nutriceuticals these
are those bioactive compounds that are derived from plants that

(07:19):
offer health benefits beyond basic nutrition. So if you think
about things that are rich in antioxidants some known as
polyphenols in fiber, all of these are essential for maintaining
that healthy gut microbiome. So how they work is they
promote the beneficial bacteria, reduces inflammation, and again just like exercises,

(07:43):
increases that gut motility or that mobility of there. So
if you combine exercise in a plant based diet, it's
one of the most effective ways to optimize your gut health.
So if you're looking for ways to get started with this.
I think incorporating both high and high intensity workouts in

(08:04):
low intensity activities work. So if we're talking about high intensity,
if you aim for at least thirty minutes of high
intensity exercise such as running, cycling, weightlifting, acrossfit, all these things,
maybe about three times a week, this will help to
increase that oxygen flow to the gut and promote the
growth of the beneficial bacteria. Low intensity exercises like we

(08:28):
mentioned with walking or light just movement, if you incorporate
those or maybe even yoga into your routine, it improves
that gut motility and reduces the inflammation. So if you
prioritize a diet that's rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains,
and lagomes that are packed with fiber, inoxidants and polyphenols,

(08:50):
and do some exercise, and I also encourage you to
experiment with nutriceuticals. If you consider incorporating like a plant
based nutriceuticals like tumoring, green tea or flax seeds in
your diet, these are compounds that offer additional health benefits
that optimize that gut bacteria. There's also another study recent

(09:13):
research that has uncovered a fascinating link between the gut
microbiome and the motivation to exercise. And this was a
study that was conducted by the NIH, the National Institute
for Health. The researchers found that mice with a depleted
microbiome became exhausted more quickly and ran less on a
wheel compared to those mice that had a healthy microbiome,

(09:37):
a healthy gut bacteria. The researchers believe this is due
to the neurotransmitter dopamine, which plays a role in motivation
and reward. So, while these findings are still being explored
in human studies, they suggest that a healthy gut microbiome
may enhance your desire to stay active. This is yet

(10:00):
another reason to prioritize gut health through diet and exercise.
So this gut microbiome, it's a powerful ally in your
journey towards optimal health. If you combine again regular exercise
with plant based diet that's rich in the nutraceuticals and
supplement with probiotics, you can create an environment where beneficial

(10:23):
bacteria thrive, inflammation is reduced, and overall health is optimized.
So as we're looking at this research and it continues
to uncover that the connections between the gut, diet and exercise.
One thing is clear, take care of your gut and
taking care of your gut is one of the best
investments you can make for your long term well being.

(10:45):
After the break, we'll be back with a special guest

That's where two licensed positions, Doctor Bob and I were
standing by to help you unlock your best self. Eight
hundred six zero six eight eight two two. Again, that's

(12:41):
eight hundred six zero six eight eight two two. All right.
We've been talking about the gut microbiome, and it's a
remarkable and complex ecosystem that plays a pivotal role in
our overall health. If you can imagine it as a
bustling community of trillions of micro organisms. You got bacteria, viruses,

(13:02):
fungi and more, and they reside in our digestive track
and influence everything from nutrient absorption in our immune function,
to mental well being and even inflammation in our body.
Think of it as that thriving city within your body
where each microbe has a specific role in maintaining balance

(13:23):
and health. So it's recent research we're talking about, including
the studies from UCLA, have shown that the gut microbiome
is highly adaptable and response to external factors like diet, lifestyle,
and exercise. For instance, a diet that's rich in fiber
and plant based foods, it promotes the growth of that
beneficial bacteria, while processed foods and antibiotics disrupt that delicate balance.

(13:50):
So one of the most exciting discoveries in recent years
is the profound impact of exercise on gut health. So
exercise isn't just about building muscle or improved in cardiovascular health.
It's a powerful tool for shaping the gut microbiome. These
studies have shown that physical activity can significantly alter the
composition in the diversity of the gut bacteria, creating an

(14:14):
environment where the beneficial microbes thrive. So to optimize this
gut health, consider incorporating high intensity workouts, low intensity workouts
or activities in a plant based diet that's rich in
nutraceuticals and supplement with probiotics. This recent research has even

(14:34):
uncovered the link between the gut microbiome and the motivation
to exercise, suggesting healthy gut may enhance your desire to
stay active. So these scientists, they continue to explore the
gut microbiome. New discoveries are going to shed light on
its potential to improve health and prevent disease. So if

(14:55):
you're combining these regular exercise with a plant based diet,
you're creating that enviro where the beneficial bacteria are thriving
and inflammation is staying reduced and your overall health is optimized.
So taking care of your gut is one of the
best investments you can make for your long term well being.
And here today to talk about the role of probiotics,

(15:17):
including the latest research by Essential Formulas, is doctor Ross Pelton.
He is the director of Science and Education for Essential
Formulas Incorporated, which specializes in premium probiotic products. Doctor Ross
is also a pharmacist, a clinical nutritionist, a health educator,
and the author of thirteen books. Doctor Ross has been

(15:39):
named one of the top fifty most influential pharmacists in
America by American Druggist magazine for his work in natural medicine.
Doctor Ross is also known as the Natural Pharmacist. His
personal website, bio and blog are at naturalpharmacist dot net
if you want to find out more information. Doctor Pelton

(16:01):
he joins us today to discuss the twenty fifth anniversary
of Essential Formulas Incorporated and how they have shaped the
probiotics industry over the last quarter century by advancing probiotics
science through research, education and cutting edge product development. All right,
welcome doctor Ross Pelton to the Doctor Bob Barton Show.

(16:21):
How are you doing today, Doctor Pelton.

Speaker 3 (16:23):
Hi, Doctor Rockman, It's nice to be with you and
the Doctor Bob Martin Show.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
Yeah, well, well, welcome, welcome, so doctor russ In. Today's topic,
what we're discussing is obviously the gut microbiome, and we
have an exciting event to discuss with e FI and
can you let our listeners know what all the excitement
is about.

Speaker 3 (16:45):
You met doctor Brockman. So this is the twenty five
year anniversary of the founding of Essential Formulas. Michael Shore
founded of this company twenty five years ago and as
you mentioned in our introduction here We've been committed to
research and edution and bringing innovative products into the natural
product and probiotic industry for the last twenty five years.

Speaker 2 (17:07):
That's amazing. That's amazing. It's a long time to be
at the top of the game. So what motivated Michael
to found Essential Formulas?

Speaker 3 (17:16):
But this really interesting story, doctor Brockman. Michael Shore was
a very successful lawyer in Washington, d c. And he
retired in nineteen ninety seven and was doing some pleasure
traveling in Southeast Asia, and he was in Malaysia, and
while in Malaysia, he got really sick. Michael had a

(17:37):
lifelong problem with intestinal distress, and in Malaysia he had
a very severe episode of diarrhea and abdominal discomfort. And
one of his traveling companions was a Malaysian physician who
gave him some capsules that he said, I give these
to all of my patients that have abominal and gastro
intestinal problems. They're imported from Japan. And Michael took these

(18:01):
capsules and it was astounded at how quickly he recovered,
and he learned that these were the doctor Here's probiotic
capsules that were already at that time being imported into
Malaysia from Japan and marketed in Malaysia well, and.

Speaker 2 (18:16):
So switched gears from from being an attorney a lawyer
to be having this interest in natural health and the
product that started this. Can you give a little bit
more information on what relieved Michael's intestinal problems?

Speaker 3 (18:33):
Sure, the product was actually called m X, which stands
for Ohira Mountain Xtract. That's the name that doctor here
gave his product, and it's still marketed under that name
in Japan. But Michael was so impressed by how quickly
he recovered from his gastrointestinal problems with this product that

(18:53):
he reached out and got in touch with doctor Rahera,
traveled to Japan and met doctor here and got doctor
Here's blessing to have the sole rights to import and
distribute and market this product in the United States and
Mexico and Canada. So Michael came back to his home
in Dallas, Texas and started the company Essential Formulas and

(19:16):
changed the name from OMX to Essential what we now
call for with Essential Formulas. Doctor oh Heroes Probiotics is
the name that he gave this for marketing in the
United States, and now it's got a worldwide reputation. Here
it's just a really remarkable product.

Speaker 2 (19:34):
Mm hmm. So so after after discovering this, after after
being sick, and then he brought back the product and
he had a lot of contact with doctor o here
is that is that how I take it and then
or the whole the whole setup. It was known as
O m X there and then bring into the United States,
he called it doctor o Heres Probiotic correct.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
And and there's been an number of human clinical trials
on this product, and some of them in the scientific
literature talk about OMX, but that's the same product as
doctor Here's probiotics in the United States.

Speaker 2 (20:12):
Okay, so you talk about some of the clinical studies.
What are some of these important achievements that Essential Formulas
has done in the probiotic industry since that founding twenty
five years ago.

Speaker 3 (20:25):
Sure, well, Essential Formulas has been really instrumental in educating
the world about the importance of not only probiotic bacteria,
but the process of fermentation in the human gut and
that results in what we call the production of post
biotic metabolites. And back in June of twenty nineteen, I

(20:46):
wrote an article that was published in a medical journal
titled post Biotic Metabolites the New Frontier in Microbiomes Science.
And this is the first time that an article appeared
in the scientific literature with this term post biotic metabolites
in the title. So I and along our company, Essential Formula,

(21:06):
has really been at the forefront of educating the world
about the importance of these compounds we call post biotic
metabolites and how they regulate our health.

Speaker 2 (21:16):
Okay, we're talking with doctor Ross Pelton from Essential Formulas.
We've been talking about post biotic metabolites and doctor Pelton,
I want to get into a little bit more detail
on that when we come back from break. We only
got just just a few seconds before the break. So folks,

growing and empowering each other because your health deserves the spotlight.
All right. We've been talking with doctor Ross Pelton of

(23:11):
Essential Formulas, and we were talking before the break about
probiotics in something known as post biotic metabolites. Doctor Pelton,
can you tell our listeners. What some of the benefits
of these post biotic metabolites are.

Speaker 3 (23:27):
I want to emphasize that what we're learning is that
the job of your probiotic bacteria is to produce these
post biotic metabolites. They break down components in the food
you eat to produce these post biotic metabolites. And so
it's not the probiotic bacteria directly that regulate your health.
It's the compounds the bacteria produce these post biotic metabolites

(23:50):
that are master health regulating compounds for the whole body.
Many of them have anti inflammatory activity. Others are even
classified as antimicrobial pepes, which are natural antibiotics that your
probiotic bacteria produced that will kill or inhibit the growth
of pathogens, but they don't harm your beneficial bacteria. And

(24:12):
some of the post biotic metabolizes are antioxidants. Others are
neurotransmitters like GABBA, which is the primary calmine and anti
anxiety neurotransmitter on our body, and serotonin and dopamine and
number of these neurotransmitters which communicate with their brain. We've
got the gut brain communication. So these post biotic metabolizes

(24:34):
producing your gut communicate with your brain and regular moods
and emotions. And here's another interesting point. We used to
think that we humans got all of our nutrition from
the food we eat. Now we've learned that various species
of probiotic bacteria can produce all of our b vitamins
and vitamin K and some of the essential amino acids.

(24:55):
Though some of our nutrients are coming from our probiotic
bacteria producing some of the nutrients's post biotic metabolites.

Speaker 2 (25:03):
Yes, that is very interesting and I've been seeing at
a lot of research on that, and it is safe
to say that that a lot of health starts with
that gut microbiome, that beneficial bacterias and eliminating some of
the harmful bacterias from there. A lot of stuff happens
in the GI track. Doctor Peltn, can you share some

(25:25):
of the scientific studies that explain in document the benefits
of doctor hero Ohira's probiotics and why that is so important.

Speaker 6 (25:35):
So, Doctor Brockman, Another important study was done on the
topic of constellation, which is a really common problem. About
twenty percent of American adults and a third of elderly
people sixty five years and old and older suffered from
chronic constellation. So in this study, young women who had

(25:57):
a long history of constellation were enrolled in a double
blind paceibo controlled trial and age masked women with no
constipation issues. With the placebo controls, women took either three
capsules of doctor herotrobiotics daily or a lookalike placebo for
two weeks. At the end of two weeks, all the

(26:17):
women would suffered from constellation. We're having normal bonel movements.
So we know that many people think doctor a hero
probiotics and they're having diarrhea. But now we see it's
also good for people that have constipation. So doctor Heres
is really an adaptage in it normalizes bowel function.

Speaker 2 (26:35):
Oh wow, okay, so the bowel function. And then you
also was you told me about just the overall level
of energy A study A study about that. I think
you were mentioning about a twelve week double blinded study
on that, Doctor Ross.

Speaker 6 (26:51):
Sure I can go over that. Also, this is a
twelve week clinical trial and participants took again three capsules
of doctor heres probiotics or placible daily for twelve weeks.
And the only people that could be participants in this
trial were totally healthy people, no obesity, no high blood cressure,

(27:11):
no health problems. At the end of twelve weeks, the
people taking doctor Hears all had sudantial reductions and fatigue
and increases in energy levels, so really showing that taking
doctor Hears from your gut functions better. A lot of
things start to improve, and one of the major things

(27:31):
is energy levels. Another study with men who are long
distance runners on a university track team. These men started
out doing a very intense run and all sorts of
monitoring and blood work, and then they took doctor Hears
for three weeks, three capsules daily for three weeks, and

(27:52):
then redid the intense run with all the measurements, and
after three weeks of taking doctor Hears, these men had
an eight point four percent increase in heloqulipment, which means
you're getting more oxygen delivered to all the cells in
your body more energy. Men had also improvements in lung
function and cardiovascular function. They were able to exercise longer

(28:17):
before lacktic acid build up in their muscles and cause pain.
So when your gut starts working better, you get more
oxygen delivered to your cells and more energy. These two
studies both document that doctor Hear's results and decreases in
fatigue and increases in energy.

Speaker 2 (28:36):
Okay, so all three of those studies that you're mentioning
are very I think important to summarize once again again
about the if you can Doctor Ross about the constipation,
the increase in energy levels in even the increase in
oxygen delivery. Can you summarize those in a few words again?

Speaker 6 (28:58):
Sure, Well, there's two different as I mentioned that document
decreases in fatigue and increases the energy, stamina and endurance.
And then the constellation study is really critical because people
with fun constellation are having more than just difficult with
ball movements, it's a whole body problem. And taking Doctor

(29:22):
Heroes for two weeks, all the women that had a
long history of constellation ended up having normal balve movements.
So Doctor Heroes normalizes vallve function.

Speaker 3 (29:32):
M hm.

Speaker 2 (29:33):
Yeah, that is an important important to note because it
seems a lot of times with people that are really
having a lot of GI issues, they don't get enough
dietary fiber in that and that can be a post
a big problem for these issues like constipation. So if
if you're prone not to get enough fiber in your
diet to take a doctor o'heres probiotic. It seems like

(29:55):
that can be a huge step in the right direction,
Doctor Pelton. And we just have a few seconds before
before breaks, so I'm gonna go ahead and take it.

(34:42):
Now let's get back in today's conversation with doctor Ross
Pelton of Essential Formulas. If you're interested and find out
more about Essential Formula's products, including doctor o'heres probiotic, visit
their website at Essential formulas dot com. You can also
follow doctor o'heres probiotics on Facebook and Instagram, and you
can find doctor o'heer's probiotics that are available ad Natural Grossers, Sprouts,

(35:07):
Whole Foods, and other natural health retailers across the United States.
All right, doctor Ross, many companies, this is important to
note here. Many companies now market these high dose probiotics
containing tens or hundreds of thousands of billions of bacteria
per dose. How does doctor o'heera's probiotics compare to these

(35:28):
high dose probiotics.

Speaker 6 (35:31):
Well, thanks for that question, because this is a really
important talkic, Doctor Brockman. Doctor here's probiotics doesn't compete with
these high dose probiotics. We're not bragging about having tens
or hundreds of billions of bacteria per dose, and it's
my belief that these high dose probiotics really don't work

(35:52):
as well as the manufacturers claim them to work. I
wrote a brief article titled the Oral probiotic Dilemma, which
provides the scientific explanation for why most orally ingested probiotics
don't provide the benefits that people are expected to believe
they're going to get. So there's three parts of this

(36:15):
ooral probiotic dilemma, and the first part is stomach acids.
Summoch acid is from ten thousand to one hundred thousand
times stronger acid than the acidity and the small intestine
in the colon, So most probiotic bacteria are going to
be destroyed when they encounter stomach acid. Stomach acid is
a really important part of our immune system. It's designed

(36:37):
to kill bacteria and other foreign invaders. The second part
of the ooral probiotic dilemma is the small intestinal environment,
which is also a really hostile environment for bacteria because
we secrete biol acids and pancreatic enzymes to digest food
in the small intestine. But these compounds will also destroy

(37:00):
the cell walls on probiotic bacteria if they.

Speaker 7 (37:04):
Make it that far.

Speaker 6 (37:06):
And the third thing I really want to emphasize is
that the foods that your probiotic bacteria require are called
dietary fibers, as you previously mentioned, but also a compound
called polyphenols, and so these are the foods for your
probiotic bacteria. And I've got multiple studies that have been

(37:28):
published that report that from ninety to ninety five percent
of American children and adults do not consume adequate amounts
of fruits and vegetables, which are the primary source of
these dietary fibers and polyphenols. So this is telling us
that from ninety to ninety five percent of Americans are
not consuming a diet that adequately supports a healthy gutten microbiome.

(37:53):
This is a really critical health issue.

Speaker 2 (37:56):
Yes, and that's one that we desperately need to address
with the ultra processed foods out there that are making
up close to seventy percent of the American diet. So
with you saying ninety to ninety five percent of American
children in adults they do not consume the right amounts
of fruits and vegetables, it's important to find that supplementation
and in doctor Oheres has a great probiotic for this.

(38:19):
What is another one of the important innovations that Essential
Formulas is bringing to that probiotic industry.

Speaker 6 (38:27):
Sure, I'd like to really emphasize a product that is
a natural booster of your glutathione levels. I wrote a
paper title the Glutathione Theoria of Aging and our brand
name regi Active, which we have imported for years from Europe.
Regiactive is a very unique product that contains a strain

(38:48):
of bacteria Colecto Bacillus fermentum me E three. Now, I
know that's a mouthful form listeners, but we just call
it ME three for sure. In this species of bacteria,
the sizes glutathione. So when you take this regiactive product orally,
the bacteria successfully survived, transit through the gut and when

(39:09):
they reach the small intestine they start to grow and
proliferate and produce glutathione twenty four to seven. And we've
got human clinical trials that show a wide range of
benefits from this product boosting glutathione levels. So this is
really a breakthrough.

Speaker 2 (39:26):
And again again you know, glute thione is becoming somewhat
of a topic conversation for a lot of people now,
and it's an extremely important nutrients. It's a master detoxifier
if you will, It's an important for immune function and
provides powerful anti viral activity. So again, this formula from

(39:50):
essential formulas is regi Active.

Speaker 6 (39:54):
I want to just spell the brand name for people
so they'll be familiar with regi Active is speiled are
eg apostrophy activ resiactives and those four different formulations of
card your Wellness, Immune and Vitality detocs and liver health
and one called essential me three.

let's remind our listeners where doctor O'Hara's probiotics and regiactive
or available at YEV.

Speaker 6 (43:20):
There in fine health food stores everywhere, and you can
go to a central formuls dot com to get more
information about availability to products.

Speaker 2 (43:28):
All right, and then, doctor Ross, you had just a
couple more things you want to say about diet before
we left, Is that correct?

Speaker 6 (43:34):
Yeah, I just want to emphasize how important diet is
for the microbiome. People have this mistaking belief that taking
high dose probiotics is going to fix bacterial imbalance in
the gut microbiome, and that really doesn't work. Diet comes
first and all ecosystems. The food has to be available

(43:55):
so the organisms or animals can grow. If it's the animal, amazon, rainforest,
or your gut microbiome. Food is what makes the animals
or the organisms thrive, and so you have to consume
a healthy diet in order to let your probiotic bacteria
thrive so they can then produce the post biotic metabolite.
Doctor Here's Probiotics is produced in a multi year fermentation

(44:19):
process that allows bacteria to break down the foods they're
supplied with and it results in a product that has
over five hundred of these post biotic metabolite. These are
the things that help regulate your health. And they don't
just regulate the gut microbiome ecosystem, they regulate your whole
body health. So taking doctor Here's probiotics and directly delivering

(44:43):
these over five hundred post biotic metabolite helps to reset
the gut microbiome ecosystem so that your probiotic bacteria can
then start to produce post biotic metabolites again. So that's
the real secret to the process. And so my new
two the main points for people to correct gut problems

(45:03):
and then dys biosis and bacterial and balance. Shift to
a more plant based diet. Get more fruits and vegetables
in especially a diversity of different types of fruits and vegibles,
and then take doctor here as probiotics.

Speaker 2 (45:18):
