(02:23):
dot com, docto r Bob dot com. A lot of
things over their Instagram, X LinkedIn all of it, podcast library,
lots of news from around the globe. All right, we're
going to be in before we go to your phone calls,
back to your calls and questions. We're going to begin
this hour talking about an important topic, especially if you
fly commercial airliners. If you're moving about any time of

(02:48):
the year in the United States, whether it's the holidays
or otherwise, is it safe to eat airplane food? That's
the question I'm an asking you to think about. Are
you an airplane food consumer? Are you feeling safe about it?
What do you need to know before your next flight?

(03:10):
You know, I know people, and I'm serious about this.
I know people who actually look forward to getting on
an airplane for the goodies, the snacks, and the foods
that they get. Now, granted, not all airplanes are serving
food these days, they've cut back, but there are airline

(03:31):
companies who do serve food, depending on you know, especially
international flights and long flights. And I guess you can purchase,
of course certain food on airliners, and they do provide snacks.
But are these foods safe to consume? That's the question.
What do you need to know before your next flight? Oh,

(03:52):
I'm going to provide that information for you. It may
surprise you, it may not least I'll feel better because
I know, you know, there are some people who actually
look forward to going on an airplane because they enjoy
the food. There are also people that, for I think

(04:12):
it's important and they enjoy going to hospital to enjoy
hospital food. I think those two groups are pretty much
the same people go figure well, when it comes to
air travel plane food. Airplane food safety is probably not
the top concern of most passengers as they enter that airplane. However,

(04:35):
given the unique challenges involved in serving hundreds and hundreds
and thousands of meals in a confined space with that
recycled air that we suck in, it's fair to ask
whether airplane food is really safe to eat. The short

(04:56):
answer is, well, yeah, we've all done it. We've all
consumed airplane food. Generally speaking, it is safe. But safe
doesn't necessarily mean healthy, right, but there are certain precautions
to keep in mind to minimize the potential risks. Now, personally,
I do not eat airplane food, and I'll get into

(05:20):
why shortly here. But plane food, we'll call that. Airplane
food is generally safe and it is regulated by the
United States Food and Drug Administration. But what does that
mean anyway? This means there are inspectors or inspections of
how the food is sourced, prepared, and stored. It's safety first,

(05:45):
not necessarily related to in any manner healthy to eat.
Keep that in mind. However, as with in the industry,
no system is flawless. Incidents like the remember this, the
Delta Airlines flight from Detroit to Amsterdam in July which

(06:06):
had to make an emergency landing due to you guessed it,
spoiled food that entered the plane that sickened passengers, which
serves to remind us that things can occasionally go wrong.
They can go wrong, go wrong. Well, here's what you

(06:27):
need to know about food safety before the next flight. And no,
I'm not trying to scare anybody. I'm not trying to
encourage people to eat airplane food either. I don't personally.
One thing you got to make sure you do, no
matter what kind of a flight you're on, international or
some foreign airliner that you're not aware of. You got
to avoid raw food. That's first and foremost. That's just

(06:50):
to me common sense. Avoid raw food or anything that's
kept cold if you're gonna get take an airliner flight.
One of the primary concerns with food safety is the
potential for contamination. You don't want to be contaminated with
food ever, and especially if you're jumping on an airplane,

(07:12):
you're going to be sitting in that little space, that
crowded cramp space, with your knees virtually in your chest
for the next two to four to six, eight to
twelve hours. While high altitude travel presents a unique environment,
the food handling processes are generally similar to those on

(07:32):
the ground. Still, there are specific risks to be aware
of when consuming food on a plane. Overall inspections regarding
food preparation do not occur frequently. Operational changes in environmental
conditions can also lead to issues with how food is stored,

(07:56):
leading to food poisoning incidents. Taking their eye off the ball,
as in taking their eye off the food. Foods that
require refrigeration, like, for example, dairy products or cold seafood,
and I've seen where airliners have tried to serve shrimp,

(08:16):
cold fish and other things may not always be stored
at the correct temperature throughout a long flight, increasing the
risk of bacterial growth. That's the problem. So for those
who are concerned about germs, and this is what I do.
Bringing your own prepackaged snacks or your bag lunch whatever

(08:40):
it may be, or meals brought inside the terminal. You
can do that too, can be a safer alternative. So
to reduce your personal exposure to food that may make
you ill, it is advised that you avoid especially cold
foods or seafood in any sort, or any meat products

(09:05):
or dairy foods, in my opinion, because sometimes they're undercooked,
the temperatures are not maintained, and things can go very
wrong as bacteria finds its way into that food, and
then you consume it, then you're sick. Think twice. Also
about eating chicken or steak on a plane. That is

(09:27):
a disaster waiting to happen, in my opinion. A flight
attendant recently shared this about a trip on a social
media platform, a tip to travelers that I noticed steer
clear of steaks when flying, largely due to how they're
prepared on board this particular And I don't have her name,

(09:49):
And this flight attendant says, and I'm quoting her, but
I don't have her name. The ovens are only so big,
so there is only so much food that can fit
in it. That's what she explained. She goes on to say,
if you are particular about how your steak should be prepared,
don't eat it. Meats in general, are a riskier choice

(10:13):
in the air. According to Darren Dettweiler, an associate teaching
professor of food policy safety at Northwestern University. He told
Food and Wine the magazine that chicken can be particularly tricky.
Oh ken it ever, chicken is problematic, folks. I would

(10:34):
suggest you every chicken under any circumstances on a plane
unless it's the chicken that you brought on the plane
in your lunch bag, and only then should you consume it.
We'll continue the conversation about is eating airplane food safe
to eat? What you need to know before your next flight.

(10:56):
I'm doctor Bob Martin. You well, hopefully natural medicine whenever applicable.

if you're just tuning into the program. In the last segment,

(13:55):
I was talking about is eating airplane foods safe to eat?

Speaker 4 (14:00):
Eat?

Speaker 3 (14:00):
And what you need to know before your next flight.
And as I have said, I just do not eat
airplane food. I don't. I don't because well one, I
worry about the quality, but the safety has also been
in question. And that's exactly what we're talking about for
most people here. We'll get to the solution here shortly.

(14:25):
But we know that anything that's cold that's served on
a plane, whether it's shrimp or fish or anything else,
is subject to problems. And chicken and steak on a plane,
even if you're taking an international flight, forget about it.
You're asking for big time trouble because look, they do

(14:47):
their best on the air in the airline industry to
make these things safe, and most of the time they are. However,
things happen. Why take those risks in the air. If
you're going to be stuck in an airplane and you
can't do anything about it, and your stomach is killing
you and you feel like you're coming apart at the bottom,
you know what I'm talking about. Without getting into detail,

(15:08):
running back and forth, it's really problematic. So avoid. The
question is avoid airplane food. Get ready for the flight.
Prepare yourself. Just like taking your ID, your passport, making
sure you have your driver's license, making sure you have
your ticket, it's just as important to make sure you

(15:31):
have your calories with you. And we'll get to that
in a place where you can access them and not
have to be tempted to say yes to the flight
attend and when they come down the row offering you
these items, these little snack items are food or those
ridiculous chocolate things that they pass out at the end,

(15:53):
which is the worst possible thing you can put in
your body. There are nothing but sugar. All right, Let's
get to the rest of it. What about the water
and ice served on airplanes. You gotta stay hydrated when
you're flying. That's an important thing, right, Well, there's no
reason why not to bring your own water on there.
There's always water in the airport you can get after
you go through the TSA. They won't let you bring fluid,

(16:14):
but you can certainly purchase some afterwards, which is probably
a better thing to do. There are often concerns about
the safety of airplane water, particularly on international flights, but
the risk is relatively low when flying domestically in the US. However,
if a plane is coming from a foreign country known

(16:36):
for having contaminated water, such as Mexico, you should avoid
ice and tap water. Bottled water, of course, is okay.
You're safe with bottled water, because the plane may source
the tap water that they are serving on the plane
from the country they're departing from. And if it happens
to be contaminated water on the ground, it's going to

(16:56):
be contaminated water on the plane, and you suck it
up and then you get sick.

Speaker 5 (17:00):
No good.

Speaker 3 (17:01):
The US government introduced the Aircraft Drinking Water Rule some
time ago, requiring airlines to regularly test their water supplies
for harmful bacteria. However, about three or four years ago,
Airline Water Safety evaluated water quality on eleven major airlines

(17:22):
and twelve regional airlines, examining factors like the presence of E.
Coli or coliform bacteria, and found that Alaska Airlines Allegiant
Airlines offered the safest water, while Jet Blue and Spirit
Air ranked at the bottom. According to the magazine Insider,

(17:48):
the study raised questions and concerns about a possible lack
of enforcement from the Environmental Protection Agency, which has issued
penalties in recent years. Flight attendant cat Kamalani shared a

(18:08):
viral TikTok video some time ago offering a simple rule,
and it goes like this, and I'm quoting her, never
consume any liquid that is not in a can or
a bottle, explaining that airline water tanks are never cleaned

(18:28):
and they are disgusting her words close quote well, given
that water tanks and pipes are rarely cleaned unless they
are broken, Kamalani said, even flight attendants tend to avoid
drinking coffee or tea on planes. That's true. You know,

(18:49):
whenever I see a flight attendant taking in fluids, they're
almost always think about this they're almost always drinking bottle water.
They're not drinking the water that there's serving. Often they're
drinking their own bottle water that they brought on the plane.
That ought to tell you everything you know. Now here's
something that it may gross you out, but I'm gonna

(19:11):
mention it. The it's the extreme of the extremes as
it relates to is it safe, is it safe to
eat airplane food? And what you need to know before
your next flight. I'll just say it out loud, rats
on a plane. That's I didn't stutter, I said rats

(19:32):
on a plane. Concerns about possible rodent infestations, like those
that led to the grounding of Sri Lanka Airlines and
India air flights earlier this year, can understandably cause a
lot of anxiety among passengers who are going to be

(19:53):
flying on those particular airlines. I have to tell you
something here, ladies. And I'm my wife, and I and
my daughter are going to be taking a trip to
India soon and we'll be flying on an Indian airline. Now,
I don't know what the name of the airline is
right now, but I'll tell you what. I'm going to

(20:14):
make sure that I am prepared. I know that sounds
a little queasy, so this news made me a little
queasy when I learned about it. But the key here
is this. If you're planning on taking an airline flight,
make sure you have your own food. Go to the
health food store. Go to the health grocery store. Put

(20:35):
together a bag of snacks, raw nuts, seeds, raisins, make
your own lunch. Get ready, be prepared, and when you
get on into the airline beyond the TSA, get your
own fluids by bottle of water. Take that on with you.
You'd be good to go. You're tuned into the Doctor
Bob Martin Show. Are you waiting for the riot? Excuse?

(21:03):
Are you waiting for signing? Choose? Why are you waiting?

Speaker 6 (21:07):
It's the time is Money, n.

Speaker 5 (21:13):

the arena of health. It's over there on my website

(22:05):
We'll get to those phone calls and questions. We also
have a health poll question we'd love to get your
opinion of this week.

Speaker 5 (22:11):
Here.

Speaker 3 (22:11):
It is, are you personally stressed or anxious about the
upcoming election?

Speaker 5 (22:20):
Yes?

Speaker 7 (22:20):
Or no?

Speaker 3 (22:22):
I read a study on that recently and it was well,
I'm not going to tell you what the outcome was
until we get our polling data, but I think you're
going to be surprised. Go to doctor bob dot com
spelling out the word doctor and answer that question. We'd
love to get your opinion. Are you personally stressed or
anxious about the upcoming election? Yes or no? All right,

(22:44):
we'll get to your phone calls and questions momentarily. You
probably have heard the expression superfruit in the past. A
lot of companies are now using that expression superfruit as
in better than fruit, and they're doing so to tell
people that there are certain fruits that have special qualities

(23:05):
above and beyond let's say an orange or an apple,
or a pair or of peach. We're talking about superfruits
like aronia berries.

Speaker 5 (23:15):
Have you heard of?

Speaker 3 (23:16):
Aronia berries considered the king of superfruits because they're rich
in antioxidant nutrients, nutrients your body needs defend itself from
all kinds of different health related problems. Aronia berries contain
what are called phenolic compounds, which naturally help plants to

(23:36):
resist disease and premature death. And when we swallow those
ronia berries, when they're ingested by humans, they have been
shown to provide all kinds of health benefits like anti
inflammatory properties, and they may help to prevent a whole
variety of different conditions like diabetes and cardiovascular problems, and

(23:56):
kidney problems and liver issues and metabologism or even the
Big C. It's worthy to note that scientific studies have
proven and subsequently published in per reviewed scientific journals, that
two ronia berries many of these health giving properties, have

(24:16):
these compounds. Two of the compounds are found in these
ronia berries to be anti influenza, which means anti flu activity. Now,
you can eat a small amount of ronia berries, maybe
a handful or two of those a day organic whenever possible.

(24:37):
But if you can't find aronia berries or you choose
to take them more conveniently and cost effectively, the way
to do that is through a supplement called Ronia Berry Complex.
A Ronia Berry Complex by Terry Naturally Vitamins. It contains
Ronia Berry Extract AB forty, which delivers a concentrated and

(25:02):
consistent source of this amazing superfruit. Additionally, Aronia Berry Complex
by Terry Naturally Vitamins includes French grape Seed Extract VX
one grape seed extract and incredible effective botanical for strong heart,
muscle function, arterial protection, healthy blood pressure levels and cholesterol balance.

(25:25):
Look for Ronia Berry Complex the supplement at finer health
food stores nationwide, or you can go to Terry Naturally
Vitamins dot com, Terry Naturally Vitamins dot com, or for
more information called their toll free number eight six six
five nine eight five four eight seven for Aronia Berry

(25:46):
Complex by Terry Naturally Vitamins. All right, let's go to
your phone calls and your questions on the topic of health.
First up, we say hello to rich in Ashland or again.

Speaker 6 (26:01):
Hi, good morning missus. Rich is Ashla and Oregon. Hey,
I really like your show. Appreciate it. You carry yourself
well over the air. Yeah, I have a problem with
I'm a house.

Speaker 4 (26:15):
Painter and.

Speaker 6 (26:18):
I get trigger finger my middle finger, and it sometimes
I wake up and I came and bend my finger
back to its regular position straight.

Speaker 4 (26:29):
What to do with it.

Speaker 6 (26:33):
After your puncher more than likely, But I'm pretty organic,
and so.

Speaker 5 (26:40):
Give me a call.

Speaker 6 (26:41):
I like to hear an answer. Boy, sure is painful,
and I appreciate it. And thanks for being on the air.

Speaker 3 (26:48):
All right, Rich, thank you for your call. Well as
a painter, because you're very active with your hands, that's
part of why you likely have this. We see a
lot of people in the trades, carpenters, painters, cosmetologists, people
who use their hands extensively and traumatize and give these
little minor mini traumas to their hands all day, every

(27:11):
day are more susceptible to developing trigger finger, which is
nothing more than a scar tissue formation of the soft
tissues in the palm of the hand, and those little
mini tears and scar tissue elements build up over time

(27:31):
and then they start to pull the finger, usually the
middle finger or the second finger, the ring finger down
into the hand and then it can permanently lock there,
and it's very difficult and sometimes very painful. So I
don't know if it's possible for you to paint with
the opposite of the hand that you're having the trigger

(27:53):
finger on, but you might want to learn to do that,
because that is the ultimate way to reduce your trigger
finger continuation of trauma is to switch hands with the
paintbrush or whatever you're doing and use the other side
which is not impacted, or at least switch it back
and forth if you can. Now, acupuncture would be a

(28:15):
good treatment to consider for a trigger finger, but I
would also consider if I were you going to the
health food store and picking up some DMSO. It's a
solvent that has been used extensively in veterinarian medicine for
reducing inflammation from an external in standpoint. In other words,

(28:35):
you roll it on. Usually you'll find it in a
roll on form, just like an antiperspirant, underarm deodorant roll
on DMSO and would I would topically roll that over
the area maybe two or three times a day, or
right before you go to bed at night, to try
to soften that area and then get in there with
your other good hand, your other thumb and start digging

(28:58):
at the area where you've feel it tight in the palm,
trying to break up some of that scar tissue so
that you can relax that area. Also, there are proteolytic
enzymes that you can take internally. They're available in health
food stores in formulations proteolytic enzymes. Lastly, there is a

(29:20):
therapy called soft wave therapy, and doctors have this in
their offices. Chiropractic physicians, nature pathic physicians, allopathic physicians. They
have machines that deliver softwave therapy, which is a high
energy sound wave pulsed that helps to break up these

(29:42):
adhesions and can increase the circulation and blood flow to
that area to carry away the debris if it's possible,
So I would look to somebody that does software therapy.
All right, Rich, thank you for your phone call. Ladies
and gentlemen, we'll be right back. You're tuned into the
Doctor Bob Margin Show. So I'm I'm a bush of

(30:17):
number simile. They have one never single aver.

Speaker 2 (30:26):
I's today.

Speaker 3 (30:35):
Welcome. We're welcome back to the Doctor Bob March and Show. Yes,
thank you for tuning into the program today, If you
like what you're hearing here, if you think other people
in your life could benefit by listening to the content
that we provide for you, week in, week out, same time,
same place, simply jot down the call letters of the
radio station you're listening to right now, whether it's an

(30:57):
AM REFM station, frequency on the dial time of the day,
and just pass out on to your co workers, your friends,
your family members, maybe your social media platform, so they
too can tune into the program and benefit by this
information that we bring to the table we can week
out Now, we would love to get your opinion of
this week's health poll question. We have a health poll

(31:18):
question over at doctor bob dot com and it goes
like this, Are you personally stressed or feeling anxious over
the upcoming election?

Speaker 5 (31:31):
Yes?

Speaker 6 (31:32):
Or no?

Speaker 3 (31:32):
I saw a big survey on that I was pretty
amazed at the results. I won't tell you what the
results are until we develop our own polling data. Are
you stressed or or anxious about the upcoming election?

Speaker 5 (31:43):
Yes or no?

Speaker 3 (31:44):
Vote please at doctor Bob dot com. Doctor bob dot com.
We're in the middle of an open telephone conversation on
the topic of health, where people call into this program
and ask questions about their own health or somebody else's health,
or who can make a health comment. Jot this phone
number down for safekey, so you have it in case
you need it. I'm here for you, and I'll do
my very best to answer your health related question. That

(32:06):
number eight hundred six zero six eight eight two two
eight hundred six zero six eight A two two or
one eight hundred six zero six eighty eight twenty two.
All right, back to work with our telephone calls and questions.
Next up is Frank calling in from Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Speaker 5 (32:26):
Yeah, my name is Frank, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I heard
you talk about a rodaberry. The concentrate is probably very good,
but be careful when you say that. To take a
bowl of it you ever try, It's called choke cherry
and it's vernacular. So I've had a few of those
carries and they will soak you up pretty quick. Anyway,

(32:48):
This wasn't I bring you up to date on that,
Thank Bob.

Speaker 3 (32:53):
All right, Frank, Frank, thank you so much for that reminder.
You're absolutely right about that. You know, if you eat
a whole bowl of a rone of berries, they are potent, folks.
I mean, because they're really dark, dark, dark purple, almost black,
and when you consume them, some people may be spending

(33:16):
a little time in the little boy or a little
girl's room going to the restroom, because they will if
you eat a lot of them that is not you know,
like a handful, no big deal, which is really what
Frank is pointing out, which is a point well taken,
maybe the first time. If you find aronia berries in
the produce aisle organic whenever possible, I would start off maybe, yeah,

(33:38):
just maybe a handful of the most not a whole bowl,
like I would eat and not have any problem whatsoever.
But no question about it. If somebody, especially if they
have constipation or they have some issues there, may loosen
their stool a little bit too much and they may
not like that. But Frank, thank you for your phone
call when reminding me of that. As I mentioned at

(33:59):
the bottom of the hour, you don't have to eat

is for years now, I've been getting black eyes right
under the ide that area in there, it turns black

(34:36):
and I don't know what to do about it. When
I do go out in the sunshine and the black
kind of gets a race. So I assume it's got
something to do with I'm guessing you write them. Indeed,
please let me know what I need to do to
correct that.

the background, it kind of is a distraction to other
people hearing the question and hearing my response. So our

eight two two. Dennis is asking about dark circles under

(35:19):
the eyes, and a lot of people do have that
and don't know what to do about it. Some people
actually put makeup on to cover that, but dark circles
under the eyes could indicate a number of different things.
Some people, you'll see it sometimes in families where you
see entire families where they have this darkness under their

(35:41):
eyes just because of skin color variation and the thinness
of their skin. That could be a problem. Also, metabolic,
certain metabolic disorders can cause dark circles under the eyes.
Kidney problems can be an issue with dark circles under
the eyes, and that requires getting checked out, meaning getting

(36:02):
a blood test, you're in test, seeing your doctor. Dehydration
can cause dark circles under the eyes. Lack of sleep
can also generate dark circles under the eyes. I found
a lot of people who have allergies. Food allergies, particularly
to either dairy foods or soy or wheat or corn

(36:23):
can also have allergies, and there's blood tests that you
can check out to make sure that's not the case
that's causing the dark circles under your eyes. But he
mentioned vitamin D. When he's out in the sun, it's better, well, yeah,
because his skin is taking in the sunlight and changing
the melonin in the skin. That may help fill it
in a little bit so it's not so drastic between

(36:43):
his dark circles. And his regular skin. You can get
vitamin D tested to see if you're deficient in vitamin
D Dennis twenty five hydroxy vitamin D tests. Meanwhile, keep
taking it. It's good for you. I'm doctor Bob Martin. Yeah,

Go hey Bob, thank you love the show. I'm having
problems with urination. I'm from Utah and uh I just
really can't control it very well. Pro state seems to
be flying. According to the doctor, I do have some
livery issues. That are they say, my liver is performing

(39:12):
at about fifty percent producing the proteins and stuff that
it's supposed to do. But if she would like to
be able to do about this, I'm sixty seven years old,
and yeah, it's a bit of a problem. Whatever I
drink seems to and I seem to be done with
that pretty quick. So if you can help me control that,

there so I know who's calling the city. He said
that state, okay, And the question, well, I would suggest
one you get a urinary test, like a urine analysis.
You may have a uti urinary track infection, maybe epididymitis.

(39:57):
You need to see a doctor. Could be your lower
back too. Lower back problems can do this see your
chiropractic physician. Nerve compression in the spine can cause incontinence. Also,
there's a way to actually measure for a muscle of
spastic so as muscle. See an applied kinesiologist. Do not
drink caffeinated or alcoholic beverages. That can absolutely exacerbate the

(40:22):
incontinency you're having. And to strengthen your bladder, maybe walk
around maybe one to three miles or jump on a
mini trampoline for a half hour every day to strengthen
your core abdominal muscles. That should help. And I thank
you for your phone call. All right, stick around, we're
coming back. You are tuned into The Doctor Bob Martin Show.
