Episode 12: Uerige

After a few metres, at the intersection Flingerstraße/Bergerstraße you reach the primary building of the house brewery “Uerige“, one of the most popular meeting spots in the city. One prefers to sit or stand outside and enjoy “Altbier”. The server is called “Köbes“. He wears a traditional blue apron and some think that he is not very friendly. Because he is paid based on profits, he doesn’t consider himself a server, but rather a businessman. So don’t be surprised if you aren’t asked what you would like to drink, or how much. As soon as you indicate that you are looking for a spot to sit down or stand up in this area, you’ll find a glass of “Altbier” being placed in front of you and once it’s empty, the next one is served straight away. Please note to the following rule: If you don’t want any more beer, place your coaster on top of the empty glass.At “Et Kabüffke“. It is a tasting pub for “Killepitsch“, a 42% herbal liquor, which has been produced based on a well-protected family recipe since 1955. Initially only known locally, the brand is now exported globally and available in selected liquor stores. You will find out everything regarding the history and tradition of the “Killepitsch“ at “Kabüffke“, but the natives prefer to receive their liquor passed through the window and drink it in front of the pub on the street.Another true specialty of Düsseldorf can be found directly across the street
