El ejecutivo de Angela Merkel ha sido el primero en mover ficha y en indicar que va a aumentar su presupuesto en Defensa hasta el 2% del PIB, tal y como exigían los socios norteamericanos en el seno de la OTAN.

Se prevé que se pase de 178.000 a 198.000 para 2024, siendo el mayor aumento desde la caída del Muro de Berlín. Aún tienen que pasar años para que alcance los 260.000 efectivos con los que cuentan las fuerzas armadas francesas o los 225.000 soldados de su Majestad del Reino Unido.
