We have a real treat for you.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
Just around the corner, and that is Empowered Living with
Jeff Bird. Jeff is the owner of Jeffreyber Coaching and
he will be coming to you weekly to teach you
more about empowered living. Now, let's join Jeff already in
the studio.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Hello and welcome. I'm Jeff Bird with Jeffrey Bird Coaching,
and this is Empowered Living. Now. Got a very exciting
presentation for you today on something that that's just become
very very clear and new to me. And the title
for today is Moving Mountains. Moving Mountains, How faith and
(01:20):
perseverance yield miracles. Now, I think that we all have
some sort of mountain in our light. And if you don't,
just wait a minute and you will. It's something to
what do we think when we see a mountain? This
is something big. It's way bigger than us. It's difficult
to get around, it's difficult to make it past it.
(01:43):
It's There's been all kinds of stories about tragedies on
mountains and falls from mountains, and you know, various difficult
things that came about in mountains storms on mountains, and
mountains can be problems for us, But I can't across
a passage in scripture recently, and Jesus was speaking, and
(02:04):
he said, truly, I say to you, if you have
faith the size of a mustard seed. If you don't know,
a mustard seed is a tiny seed, like can ald
tons of them, you know, just on the head of
a dime. If you have faith the size of a
mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, move from
here to there, and it will move, and nothing will
be impossible to you. Uh oh. In a different passage
(02:27):
he says something similar again, and he says, you'll say
to it, be removed and cast into the sea, and
it will obey you. Well, wow, that's pretty big. So
I've always wondered, you know, what on earth did he
have in mind when he said that. I don't think
he anticipated that we're just going to be throwing mountains around. Hey, hey, Everest,
go hop down into the Indian Ocean, and moom Everest
(02:48):
is now in the Indian Ocean. I just don't get
the impression that that's what he had in mind. I
think there's something else going on, And what I think
is going on is that he's talking about these things
that are mountains in our own lives, now they can
be mountains in our personal development when we think, oh,
I'm never going to get this degree finished, I'm never
going to get to this level, I'm never going to
get that promotion. Maybe it's a personal or a family issue. Well,
(03:12):
we're never going to get past this problem. I'm never
going to overcome these difficulties with my kids. I'm never
gonna move past this kind of standoff, this relational impasse
that I'm in. Maybe it's something like that. Maybe it's financial,
maybe it's health. It could be numerous things that seem like, wow,
this is a big deal and it's way too big
(03:32):
for me. So with those things in mind, let's look
again at what Jesus is saying. Now, there's another passage
that says, let endurance. And you've heard me talk about
this before. Maybe let endurance have its perfect result, so
that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
(03:53):
So there's a moving mountains on the outside, but then
there's an inner perfecting development too. So this is what
I This is what I think is that if you
don't really believe that something needs to be or can be,
or that you're the one to do it it fits
for you, you won't persevere in it. And this is
(04:14):
the image that came to me. And if you're watching
this on Facebook, on the live feed that we've got
going here, there's a picture up on the screen behind me,
and it's a photo that I took out in Zion
National Park. And it's a river running through right in
the foreground, but behind is this huge, massive cliff rock wall.
(04:35):
And what happened that The caption on it says that
a river cuts through a rock not because of its power,
but its persistence. So, now here's the thing. If that
river didn't think it could ever make it through that rock,
this is a massive canyon that was cut. We know
grand canyons, same thing. Many canyons are cut, mountains are moved,
(04:57):
so to speak, by these rivers. And so here's the
little equation that I came up with. Faith plus perseverance
equals mountains moved. Now here's the thing. If you don't
have faith, if you don't really believe it, you won't
have persistence. If you don't believe it can be and
will be when you have persistence. Though, like the river
which carves away at the mountain. The obstacle is eroded
(05:21):
bit by bit, it travels in the river and it's
deposited in the sea. Just picture that. Thus, in this way,
the mountain is removed and cast into the sea. So
think of this. Think of the rain that comes from heaven.
Maybe it's snow in the mountains, maybe it forms a
glacier or a huge snowy area, but it creates rivers.
(05:44):
So these resources come down, like from heaven or come
to us through things other than ourselves. They come from
above and they form rivers, and those rivers cut away
those mountains, and they deposit them in the sea. As
they continue downstreaming, finally get to their outlet. So that's
how a river gets sort of a mountain. So I'm
(06:06):
going to say that our faith is like that river.
Our faith and our perseverance combined are like that river.
When we believe that something can be, should be, needs
to be, it's important, we're gifted to do it, we're
the ones who need to do it, and we start
moving in that direction. We need to keep moving in
that direction, and keep moving in that direction, and keep
(06:27):
moving in that direction. Just like that river. It never
lets up. You may have visited a beautiful river scene
sometime and it's like wow, you have that memory in
your mind, but think of this. That river was running
every second, every minute, every hour, every day, all day long,
three hundred and sixty five days a year. It's moving, moving, moving,
it's working away at that mountain. And when we have
(06:50):
that conviction that hey, this is for me, this needs
to be done. It needs to be done by me.
It's going to benefit others, that uses my gifts. I'm
the person for this. The biggest mountains that are in
your way will be moved as you persevere and persevere,
and persevere and keep at it. Now, if you don't
really believe it, you're not going to persevere. And if
you don't persevere, it's not going to happen. I've heard
(07:13):
it said by people far wiser than I that a
lot of people quit just before the breakthrough their faith
just didn't hold out that it was really for them.
They didn't believe that, Hey, that goal is really for me.
I can do that. I'm the one to do that.
I've been gifted and equipped to do that, and it
needs to be done because it's important for me and
for the people around me, and so they don't persevere.
(07:36):
So faith, let's talk about this a little bit more.
Faith is the confidence that the unseen can be obtained,
the vision can come to fruition, and resources previously unknown
will be found to accomplish the vision. Now, let me
just insert this right here, because most things worth doing
(08:00):
are bigger than what we can do alone. We need
a team, but it can be hard to know who
our team is. Most people don't just you know, they
get a vision, they go, Okay, I need this person,
this person, this one, and this one. Often we don't know.
We just had to go I know I need to
move in that direction. I know I need to go there,
and we don't even know what the help is that
we need. Even if that's you. Let me say this,
run as hard as you can in the direction of
(08:23):
your vision, and your team will find you. When you
get a vision, when you get something meaningful and purposeful
and a sense of calling, and you have faith that
you're the person to make that happen, and you start
running as hard as you can't, take in every opportunity,
learning all you can, developing yourself, moving in that direction
with all you've got, people won't know this, they'll go,
(08:45):
oh my gosh, wow, this guy is passionate about that,
and I agree with his passion. I resonate with what
that purpose is. And your team will come out to
help you, support you, create other opportunities and move you
further in that direction, and you can go there together.
So that's what faith is again, the confidence that the
unseen can be obtained, the vision can come to fruition,
(09:07):
and that resources previously unknown will be found to accomplish
the vision. And again, in other words, we're saying this
needs to happen. I'm the one through whom it needs
to happen, and it will happen through me having that confidence.
But we have to have that as the basis for perseverance,
or will give up before it ever happens. So, now,
(09:28):
whomen use the word faith, I want you to know
I'm not talking about just spiritual theological things. I'm talking
about earthly visions here as well. So it can be
faith that hey, you've got this gift and you can
do this, Faith that you can become, you can win
that award, you can get that degree, you can solve
that family problem, you can have that kind of marriage
and relationship, you want, You can get out of debt,
(09:51):
you can attain what you need to attain to have
your needs met and to be a blessing to other people.
So that's what I mean. What I'm saying faith, I'm
not just talking about a spiritual vision. I'm talking about
the faith that what you've got, what that vision is
in you, is for you, and you really believe it
enough to keep moving ahead. And belief just says, hey,
(10:13):
I'm moving in the right direction and what is needed
will come. And there may be times when you see nothing,
but you believe that you're moving in the right direction
and that what is needed will come. It reminds me
a story of an orphanage over in England many many
years ago, and they were completely out of resources and
out of food, and the guy that was running the
orbanation she said, okay, come on, children, sitting down around
(10:34):
the dinner table, We're going to pray and thank God
for the food. They said, well, we don't have any food.
He said, he's going to provide some food. And while
they were sitting there praying and not came on the
door and the bread truck had broken down right in
front and they weren't going to be able to make
get the bread back and keep it a refriger or
keep it how it preserved for long enough, and they said, hey,
we're right here. We don't want to waste all this bread, Hay,
(10:55):
could you use something?
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (10:56):
Absolutely, it's that believe. That's what it is, believing that
the resources will come. But here's the thing. There's always
this middle ground between the birth of a vision and
the fulfillment of a vision. This is the difficulty. This
is where the perseverance and persistence comes in. This is
where we're tested to see if we really believe in
our vision and are wholeheartedly committed to it. Was it
(11:17):
a nice idea or was it an all encompassing and
consuming vision. Was it something that that could have been
all right, or was it something that we believe was
specifically for us, that we're meant to do, a purpose
that we're meant to complete in this world, and a
necessity that that uses our gifts and strengths, and we
are committed to it. If that's what it is, If
(11:39):
we really believe in the vision and we're wholeheartedly committed
to it, we'll be like that guy that said, hey,
come on, we're going to sit down and give thanks
for the for the food. When there is no food,
We're going to keep moving ahead even when we cannot
see the way, trusting that what's needed is going to
come and it's going to get there. There are a
million examples of this. I'd love to have time to
(11:59):
go into a lot of them, but there are so
many where the way they a person had a sense
of a calling that, Hey, this is for me, this
is what I'm supposed to do, this is what I'm
supposed to get done in this spot, this is what
I'm supposed to be. And they just kept moving and
moving and moving in that direction when they couldn't see,
when they didn't know where the resources were coming from,
and they couldn't see the outcome, and they just kept
(12:19):
moving and then one day, boom, it clicked. It's kind
of like Les Brown talks about the Chinese bamboo tree. Now,
Chinese bamboo tree requires from the time you plant it,
it requires five years to develop a root system before
it ever shows any growth on the surface. So you're
watering Chinese bamboochie water every day for five years. Hey,
(12:42):
that's where the persistent persistence comes in, because you believe
you have the faith that if you keep doing that,
one day you're going to get a Chinese bamboo tree.
And what happens after five years of watering and tending
that Chinese bamboo tree is one day you're going to
see a little bit of growth, and once it starts growing,
it can grow eighty to ninety feet tall within five
(13:07):
weeks because of the time it's spent developing that infrastructure,
that underground root system. And that's what's happening in us.
When we are pushing through, when we cannot see the way,
we are gaining a tenacity. We are gaining conviction, Our
character is getting developed. We are gaining determination and faith
that there will be a way, even if it's unseen.
And guess what happens That raises us as an experienced
(13:31):
example to help guide others who are coming behind us.
We know what it's like to be in that situation.
We know what it's like to not know where the
resources are coming from. But we know what it's like
to have a purpose and a calling that's so strong
that we will not give up. And as we pressed through,
we have developed on the inside. Like that opening verse,
(13:51):
let perseverance have its perfect way work so that you
may be complete and perfect, lacking nothing. You become perfect
on the inside, then things come together on the outside.
So this also, as we do that, it opens doors
that otherwise would have remained unknown and closed. When we
(14:12):
keep doing it, keep doing it, keep doing it. I've
often I'll be honest, it's been a difficult last five years.
In some respects. It's been super fulfilling in one it's
been super difficult in another getting what I do now
up and going. And there's been so many times and that, well,
maybe I should do something else, Maybe I should go
get a different job. Maybe I should just be comfortable
(14:33):
and just you know, settle. And you know what's always
occurred to me is if I do that, there's opportunities
just around the corner that I can't see that I
will never know about. There's people I will be able
to impact that I'll never meet, and there's things that
will be super meaningful and fulfilling to me that I'll
never experience. So I encourage you, if you got that vision,
don't let it go. Even though it's difficult. You are
(14:55):
becoming something on the inside greater than what you can imagine.
And the impact of that is going to have great results.
Just think about if you get discouraged, think about Nelson Mandela.
He spent twenty seven years in prison because of his
vision that seemed like it would never happen until the
day when he was released from prison and when he
(15:17):
was made president of the country and was able to
affect so many good things and help so many people.
So others will see your faith and be inspired when
they witness your perseverance. If you give up, if you
do it the easy way, take the easy way out,
nobody's going to see your faith, your confidence, nobody's going
to be inspired. You're not going to touch anybody. You're
(15:38):
just going to play safe, and you'll be forever haunted
by the ghost of what would have been, what would
have been if I just had I don't want to
be haunted by that ghost of what would have been.
I want to be inspired by the voice of what
if I do, what could be? What if I do
move ahead? What if I do take the rest? So
all right here, let's get some takeaway.

Speaker 2 (17:30):
Here's I got a few takeaways for you today. Number One,
during the I'm gonna call it the death of a
vision stage, your confidence in and commitment to the vision
are being tested. Your faith is being tested. Is this
vision for me? Is this really for me? Do I
(17:50):
believe it can be me? And your confidence is being developed.
Don't give up, do not give up. Like Winston Churchill,
once sit never never never, never give up. Don't give up.
Keep moving forward. It may be the next little step
that you can see, but keep taking that step. Once
(18:12):
you persevere, you will have developed character that will motivate
and inspire others. When the pieces come together, you are
You're like that icebreaker in the Arctic of the Antarctic.
You are breaking the ice and leading the way. No
wonder it's difficult. You got all the resistance on you.
You're clearing the path for other people to come through
more easily, and you're setting a new president in a
(18:32):
new paradigm for them. Remember, everything worth doing is uphill.
If it were easy, everyone would do it. Hi, who
get set apart when everybody's doing the easy thing? You
are doing what others won't so you can have what
others don't. On all levels of life. This is true
on the spiritual side, the intellectual side, the emotional side,
(18:54):
the physical side, and the familial side, the relational side.
The financial side. When you're doing what others want want,
when you keep at it, when everybody else is given up,
you're gonna end up having what they don't. And next
is it's very very helpful to recall examples of others
who persevered and obtained the desired fulfillment as resources came,
(19:15):
doors open, connections were made, as they continue to develop
themselves and reach for the goal, never giving up. Think
of people, think of people that you know, Think of
global figures, think of Mother Teresa's, think of Abraham Lincoln's,
think of Nelson Mandela's, think of Mahatma Gandhi's. Think of
these other people, or think of people that you know
(19:35):
on a much more local level who had a vision,
who didn't think they could get through school, but boy,
they pressed on and they did it. They didn't think
they could aspired that they could ever make ends meet,
but they kept on and kept on and developed themselves
and became more valuable, ended up making more and we
were able to make ends meet and get beyond that.
Just take examples, personal examples, to keep those examples in
(19:57):
front of you to keep you moving ahead, and then
remember that when others see your fae and they witness
your perseverance, and then they see your miracle happen, they
will be inspired as well to believe that they can
do what their goal is. So you're setting the weight.
You're not just developing your own leadership leading yourself, well,
(20:18):
you're now influencing, which is leading other people and building
them up so that together we can all reach our
greatest potential, use our gifts to have maximum impact on
the world, and together do great things as we each
fulfill our own niche. So those mountains will be moved.
As you have faith, and as you have perseverance, and
(20:38):
as you continue and never give up, you're going to
see the miracles happen. Thanks so much for joining me today.
I hope I'm fired up about this. I guess you
can tell that. And this is very meaningful to me
because I've been in the middle of this for a
few years now and I'm starting to see the mountains move.
But hang in there, the mountains will move. And again,
(20:58):
I'm jeff Bird Jeffrey Bird Coaching, and this has been
empowered living. We'll see you next time.
