Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ain't you average?

Speaker 2 (00:00):
In the Tainment show more to entertainment and what's on
the screen, connecting dots on what you see.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
Welcome back to the Entertainment Z owners Me Paul Amidei Slaine.
Hope you enjoyed our first segment of the show. We
talked about two shows you may want to add to
your watch list, The Irrational as well as found both
on NBC very intriguing shows, the shows that make you think,
and if you missed our first segment of the show,
make sure you check it out. Another show you want

(00:30):
to keep your eye on is Johnson. During the pandemic,
had an opportunity to interview one of the stars of
the show, and he and I just hit it off.
I have seen this brother just explode in his acting
chops as well as just an amazing person, and I

(00:53):
am so grateful that he and I have connected. We
message each other, we chat. He's one of the coolest
guys you ever meet in this business, and I think
he is worthy of your support. So without any further delay,
let's welcome on my amazing friend and see what he's
up to. Joining me right now is an amazing actor.

(01:19):
We're can add director, producer All world talent to that
we're talking about the amazing, the awesome, a guy that
I'm proud to call my friend, Derek Brady. What's going on, Derek,
what's going on?

Speaker 3 (01:34):
Thank you everything as well? Man, thank you for having me.
I'm glad to be back.

Speaker 4 (01:38):
Man.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
You've been You've been with me on the journey since
season one, so I'm glad to be back.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
Man. I am so delighted to catch up with you.
I know we tried to catch up right after season
two and three and four wasn't able to do it.
But I'm what they say, we saved the best for last, right,
that's what we do.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
That's right, That's right, that's right.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
You know Derek's I kind of mentioned this to uh
to the audience where I brought you on, just how
this series really encapsulates these these four different individuals. Everyone
gets equal time in their story arc and just the

(02:18):
vision that that Daiji Leroy and also uh X NFL
great running back Thomas Jones. I wish he could come
back out of retirement. I need them more fantasy football team.
But but talk about just how they make sure that
everybody gets their time to shine and their story arc.

Speaker 3 (02:39):
Please well, listen, man, it's really amazing how Dji Lay
and Thomas Q. Jones do it. I mean, you know, Daiji,
being that he created the series and he's our writer,
he writes all the episodes, he just has an amazing
way of being able to give all the characters balance.
You know, he shows all of the ins and outs
of each character as well as us as our brotherhood,

(03:02):
but then all the relationships we have in our lives.
And you got to remember on the broadcast of Bounce,
shout out to Bounce TV. But on the broadcast of Bounce,
you know, we're dealing with commercials, so it's about twenty
three minutes per episode, and on the Brown Sugar Wrap
it's a little longer. And actually also the episodes on
Hulu are a little longer, so you know, to be

(03:23):
able to do that in twenty three minutes, twenty three
minutes show all our lives, show the balance of it,
show that we're going through in the obstacles and how
we're reconciling with people as well as having victories, it's
pretty amazing. And that's just shout out to dej for
being able to do that. I think he does an
amazing job, and we all come together to make sure
that we give everything that's needed so that in that
twenty three minutes it's solid.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
One thing I've noticed being around the entertainment world for
a long time is that when one is our showrunner
and a producer and are a part of the show,
they kind of want to they kind of want to
dominate it. I want to say they have a certain
kind of syndrome, but that that guy, that guy is

(04:07):
in jail right now, so I don't want to use
it now right now. Have that kind of center, you know,
they want to be I want to be front center
and everything. But we see we see with with Daisy
Leroy and also Thomas Q. Jones, they make sure that
you know your story are in particular, you know it's
there in front and center, and sometimes they need not

(04:29):
even be a part of the episode. A lot talk
about just the unselfishness that you know that that they
have to make sure that you and you and Phillips character.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
Just shine listen Man, DAIJ. Lebray and Thoms K. Jones
are one of the most unselfish, thoughtful, giving, generous people
I know. I mean, they just are They want everybody
to shine, and they want the show to be the
best that it can be, and they they you know,
Deji right all the episodes has an uncanny way of

(05:02):
knowing like what's happening before a trend even happens, the
way he has them in our storylines, and so he
does an amazing job to really make sure that we
all have moments that we all are representative of black
men that we don't normally see depicted in media and
on TV. You know, a lot of times when we

(05:23):
see us on TV, we're not always we're not always
showing the perspective of our humanity and and our thoughtfulness
and us dealing with things like mental health or childhood trauma.
And I feel like on our show, they do an
amazing job with all of our characters showing that when
when the audience watches our show, there's someone they're gonna

(05:45):
be able to relate to, or a friend that they
know or a cousin that they see. And I just
I just think they do an amazing job at that
The tone, the humanity aspect of us is black men
and what we're trying to achieve and not just float
is amazing And I'm so honored to be able to
be part of that.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
You know, you touched on something Derek's that resonated with
me when I first watched the initial episode when we talked,
was that how uplifting each other? And I keep it
one hundred, You keep it one hundred. You know, oftentimes
in the in the black community, we were so busy

(06:28):
trying to tear people down, you know, because somebody needed.
You know, we want to be a hater, we want
to talk about this. Well they ain't doing that doing that.
But I look at I look at Johnson, I look
at what UH with UH with Dais and also Thomas
Uh was able to do with having a positive story
about ones. They friends, They have dramas, but they were

(06:50):
always there lifting up and that that's how it was
when our matriarchs are great grandmothers, great grandfathers, uncles, that's
how they were. They were there to support, to uplift
and bring us up. And it seems like that generations
have forgot about that and they just want to not

(07:13):
be there to support.

Speaker 4 (07:14):
And yeah, it's.

Speaker 1 (07:16):
Amazing to have a show like Johnson the show. No,
we can all support each other, we can support everybody,
We can support each other, and I really appreciate that.

Speaker 3 (07:26):
Yeah, man, I mean I think that, you know, we
see that, we do see that in life. I think
it's just we don't see it on TV. And it's
it's a great opportunity to show how we do champion
each other, you know, like my shines not less because
you succeeded something or you have a victory, like you win,
I win, I win, you win. And I think that
Johnson is a great example of that. You know, Johnson

(07:49):
is the show that even if I was not on it,
first of all, I'd be upset that I wasn't on
it because I just would love to be part of
a show like that because the first of it's kind.
You know, I think that women have done a great
job with their narrative and creating different shows from Living
Single to you know, Rule the World, to Harlem to
Not Go On and on of the shows that women

(08:11):
have done a great job with their narrative. I don't
think men. We we haven't you know, had the opportunity
to do that and come together to do that. And
I feel like Johnson is one of the pioneers of that.
And I'm so honored that we are doing something that's
part of the culture that's gonna you know, that's kind
of first of and you know seeing that show, and

(08:32):
so you know, we and that's how we are in
real life. We really love to see each other shine.
The brotherhood that you see is on and off screen.
It's it's the same. You know, we go on vacations
with each other, We we visit each other, we we
go on trips. We've been at each other's weddings, like
we've seen each other grow. And so you know, we

(08:53):
call each other when we need advice or something to
bounce off of, or something to celebrate, and we do
that in real life. And that's what you see on screen.

Speaker 1 (09:01):
I love it and it comes across man and it's good,
good and refreshing. They know to uh see that, and
I won't let the audience know out there. Derek's is
spot on. Since he and I have met, he has
been supportive of me. He has, you know, giving me
love on social media. He's done all that. Always I
can reach out to him. He is what you see

(09:22):
how Jarvis is that that that guy who you can
rely on everything. Now that's real talk, because that's how
that's how Derek's is with me, and I just want
to give you props with that.

Speaker 3 (09:31):
Man.

Speaker 1 (09:31):
You're real, You're a real, real, good guy man. That's
why I appreciate that. You know, I always support you
in I agree with you too about you being upset
if he was on that show. Man, I'm upset because
I'm not on that show. So daij Leoy Thomas Q. Jones,
y'all better holler at this fine this able chocolate man,

(09:54):
because I be on that show. So I won't put
that out in the universe. So that's what we You know,
when when when you look at your your story Arc Jarvis,
when we last time we talked, it was after you
completed season two and three, and when we chat you,

(10:15):
it didn't give me no clue the world win behind
Jarvis's character. I mean, the guy who beats you up,
who was a cop police were telling, yeah, what a badge,
end up being your brother. Then Wardell, who you thought
was your dad, stole you from birth from your birth mom,

(10:39):
and then you have your real your biological dad there.
When you first saw that on on paper, when did
you know it was going to go that way? It
was it during season two season one? When did you
know that that was gonna happen with your story arc?

Speaker 3 (10:54):
Well, Dais writes all the episodes, and the way he
does it is right before we go to film, he'll
send he'll like a week, like a couple of weeks
before we start filming, he'll send all the episodes so
we get to read it there. So two weeks before
we start filming, you know, we we have an idea.
Now that the scripts change and shift and all that,
but we pretty much have an idea of what the

(11:16):
arc of the season is, right and so you know,
so it's season by season, I don't know what's gonna happen.
And first we have to get a season three, you
know what I mean. Like when we do season one,
we're praying and excited to do season two, but we
don't know we got it until it's announced, and then
we get the season two, and then we get you know,
so on so on. So we only know maybe a
week or two before the season you know begins filming.

(11:40):
But listen, man, First of all, I just love the
trust that day she has in me to be able
to facilitate a story and give life to the words
and be able to live it out on screen. You know,
a lot of shows, you know, you don't get the
opportunity to be able to have that kind of range

(12:02):
where you're dealing with, yeah, divorce and you're trying to
find your way, and then you know, you're dealing with healing,
and then you're dealing with finding out that your parents
were that you thought you were your real parents actually
kidnapped you and they're not. And then you got to
meet your biological dad, and you got to find out
that the cop that you have a lawsuit against is
actually your brother and he's the one that told the

(12:23):
father that he needs to connect with you, and like
all these different things. You know, it was like, Wow,
I love that I get to play this range of
of of life, and you know, and and and another
thing that's pretty amazing that I didn't see coming when
el Warren was introduced as my biological father is and

(12:45):
I got to have laughing moments with him and fun
moments with him. I was like, wow, de g, thank
you for creating moments in my life that I never
had in my real life. Right, Like, I didn't have
those moments with my biological dad until recently. I didn't
know him. Growing resild about five six years ago. And
so there's certain moments that I'm having as Jarvis that

(13:08):
I never even had in my real life that I
get the experience and I love that, man, And that's
just the beauty of our show. You know, when you
have a show for us, by us, that's created for
all of us to be able to experience, that's when
you get to have opportunities for magic. And that's what
I feel like I have with Jarvis on Johnson.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
Derek, thank you so much for sharing that, man. How
how this experience has really kind of, I don't want
to say, filled in some gaps, but gave you some
opportunities you know on set, you know, to really to
really have that have that experience and shout out to
Bounce in Hulu. Yeah, you mentioned it that we get

(13:49):
more of the episode when we go on those formats,
and so are there any kind of clips that we
might have missed interaction between you and your your biological
father that.

Speaker 3 (14:01):
We gotta we got you gotta go on the Brown
Sugar app and you gotta check Hulu when season four
goes on Hulu. But we had this great scene I
think it was in season four, episode.

Speaker 4 (14:11):
Eight maybe where he kind of you know.

Speaker 3 (14:16):
He asked about them, and I tell him like, man,
I'm you know, I still love what hell my mom like,
I I don't want to see him go to jail.
I don't want to see anything like that. And I
still miss them. And he's like, I'm gonna be honest, Jars,
I kind of take it a slap in the face.
He's like, he's lucky that I didn't even throw my
look at him. And I was like, uh, come on, dad,

(14:36):
Like you think your bark is a little bit louder
than your bike. You almost threw your hip out and
y'all got into it. And so that's all we kind
of see. And then we kind of you know, but
if you go on the Brown Sugar app or you
go watch this on Hulu and season four goes over,
we continue. He's like, what are you talking about? Man?
I was about to throw my hook and do that
Muhammad ali at him, and we just improvised this moment

(14:58):
where we just did the whole flow like a butterfly
sting like a be rumble young man rumble. Ah. It
was so funny, man, it was so fun And that's
just you know, shout out to our chemistry that I
have with el Warn who plays my dad, an amazing actor,
he's totally an icon. And then shout out to you know,
dej you know Loray and Thomas Q. Jones for keeping

(15:19):
it in and so you know, there's moments like that
that if you go on the Brown Sugar app or
go watch the episodes on Hulu, you're gonna see longer
episodes because on the broadcast for Bounce since twenty three
minutes and we're dealing with commercials. But on you know, Hulu,
we're dealing with commercials, but it's still a longer episode.
More minutes are on there, and the Brown Sugar App,

(15:40):
I don't think there's any commercials on that, and so
it's just shout out to them and shout out to
Bounce for just giving us the space to create a
show that is like more of a reality of who
we are in everyday life. I can't tell you how
many comments we get on social media and messages and
you know, dms and emails about how our show is,

(16:01):
like you know, and women as well just really champion us.
Going I just found this show. I love this show.
I just saw yesterday and or I've been watching it
since day one and just to see black men depict
it this way with humanity. I absolutely love it. I
see my brothers on this show. I see my cousins,
my my you know, my friends that I grew up with.

(16:21):
And then, you know, it's great because the you know,
this is the first time that I've ever seen you know,
male pov where the women also have a voice on
our show. They're not dormant like they have a voice
and the volume is turned up, and I think that
they help drive a lot of scenes that you know,
that empower the men to strive for more, achieve more,

(16:42):
try to figure some things out.

Speaker 4 (16:43):
You know, the women on.

Speaker 3 (16:44):
Our show challenge us, they encourage us, they lift us up,
and I just think it's amazing and it's an amazing time,
especially on social media, where we see this divide a
lot of times there's a gap, and I feel like
our show is contributing to us finding that we have
more common goals than we do separate.

Speaker 4 (17:03):
And I love that.

Speaker 1 (17:05):
Now. I appreciate you, uh you sharing that, Derek's, because
I was going to definitely go there with that. We're
all the negativity and all the tearing down on on
social media, you know, I don't know the last time
you've been on Twitter, but man, it is like a
cesspool of just demonic. Oh yeah, you know, it's just

(17:27):
a lot of just bad energies over there. And and
it's refreshing, you know to have a show like like
like Johnson's and and also have you all be like
this in real life. And I'll let let the audience know.
This is how how you see Jarvis. That's how Derek's
is in real life. Derek's is really supportive. Ever since

(17:49):
he and I had our first interview together, we've kept
in touch. We've always supported each other. We've we've we've
DMed each other and and everything. And and I really
appreciate that Derek's because you know, it really shows just
you know, when they put you all in the cast together,
you know they you know they did right, man, because

(18:10):
you all some some pretty pretty amazing, amazing cats out there,
and you are role model role models out there too
about how how to to to have a job overcome adversity.
You know, I look at Daisy's character, you know how
he had a hard time just getting get on his feet.
He went to culinary you know, now now he made

(18:33):
he made Kyle R. Krados Ur TC Carson mad the
last episode, you know, so uh, you know that that
showed a different dynamic. But but but I love the
fact that that that it shows just how to how
when life happens, you just keep on going.

Speaker 3 (18:51):
Yeah, man, you just figured it out, you know. And
it's funny, you know, even saying PC Carson, like, I
love how some of the icons and the people that
have really made have paved the way for us the
shoulders were standing on or on our show. You know,
we got you know, with TC Carson, a legend man,
and having Terry Vaughn on there, and you know, Cedric

(19:14):
the entertainer and being our executive producer and doing episodes
as well, and having DL Hugley, like, you know, we
got some people that are really paved the way before
us and they're on our show. And that just says
a lot.

Speaker 4 (19:26):
You know.

Speaker 3 (19:27):
TC Carson when he wrapped in season four, uh, you know,
he actually got emotional when he shared that he had
never been treated the way he has on the set
of Johnson and and And it's so dope to be
part of that where we get to you know, encourage
and and and and speak speak you know, affirmations and

(19:50):
life into the people that we've seen before us and
let them know how much they're still appreciated today, not
just what they did, but what they're doing now. And Uh,
to be able to have moments on screen like that,
it is just amazing, man. So yeah, I love that
about our show. I love what we're doing and what
Dais is writing and Thomas and then you know, pulling
people in and our casting director George Pierre making sure

(20:11):
that we get these different talents on the show and
keeping it living in active. Man, it's the beautiful thing.

Speaker 4 (20:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (20:18):
TC he's a legend in video gaming because he was
he was a voice of Cradles, got award for the
first I think I think four or five games. Man,
he's like a legend in video gaming and right, and
then when he when he played Kyle and Living Single, Yeah,
I remember, I remember that episode when he sung my
funny Valentine to Erica Erica Alexander and that that was

(20:42):
just like, you know, that was like TV history right there.
So yeah, he was amazing. And then then I look
at some other characters who make some appearances too, who
were in the past seasons, like the actress who plays
your wife Lisa.

Speaker 3 (20:59):
And talented actors.

Speaker 4 (21:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (21:01):
Absolutely, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (21:02):
I was shocked that she came back and she came
back to assist you. And what was that like playing
that in that episode?

Speaker 3 (21:11):
It was great, man, because you know, one of the
things that I think that happens well on our show
on what day she does in writing the episodes, is
that he keeps our universe living and acted. He keeps
it real, right like in your own life. There's people
that come and go, you run back into you find
a way. And I think that it was great to
be able to see them reconcile. It was great to

(21:32):
see them not get divorced and hate each other but
go through this painful time and find ways to still
still champion each other and want each other to really
do well. And so for him to have this issue
and trying to lift the appraiser, the appraiser higher for
his clients who happen to be you know, African American

(21:53):
and aren't really getting justice. You know, she came back
for him and acting like that was their house. I'm
giving a little bit of a storyline for people that
haven't seen the episode, but but yeah, you know, that
was great. I mean, I think that's how it should be.
And so Jessica is an amazing and talented actors. So
we were able to get in there and pick up
where we left off and really being the scene. And

(22:15):
I loved how some people thought like, what's going on, like, Kim,
there is there or oh, they're just really champing each other.
And so that's like real life. You know, when you
have someone that you truly loves, that love is not
just dead. And so if you can have a moment
where you have commonality and you're there to support one another,

(22:36):
you know, you kind of have those remembrances of man.
At the end of the day, we didn't see eye
to eye or greeted everything, but I still notice is
a good person, and so I thought that was great
that that was on the show. I didn't see it coming,
but I thought it was dope that it was in there.

Speaker 1 (22:50):
Now I love it. So Season four end it with
some cliffhangers. They had my buddy Ashley. Yeah, you know,
she still gotta she still gotta teach me her exercise routine,
because the last time I talked with her, I said,

(23:11):
now can you do that with this body? Right? Hey,
can you make this body all busted up and stuff.
So so she and I, she and I gotta do
some some pts. She gotta she gotta get me into shape.

Speaker 3 (23:20):
Man, but actually, don't play man. And she's one of
the sweetest people on earth with so much talent. She's
amazing inside it out. I just love Ashley. She is
just so Yeah. She was watching the show before she
was even on the show, so yeah, yeah she. I
think her and Daij have great chemistry. I'm interested to

(23:40):
see where that storyline goes. So yeah.

Speaker 1 (23:43):
And speaking of the storyline, any word on season five yet.

Speaker 3 (23:48):
Yo, man, listen, we love doing the show, man, so
we'll see where it is. I feel like with season four,
we're really proud of it, man, like you don't, especially
a lot of shows don't really get the season three.
I mean a lot of them don't even get the
season two. And the fact that we got the season four.
We really feel proud of the stories we've told. But
you know, I'm not ready for Jarvis to go to sleep,

(24:09):
and so you know where we would love to do more.
So we'll see, you know where we land. But I
know that we are willing and able to keep telling stories.
I feel like with us going on the Brown Trigger
app as well as episodes going on Hulu, you know,
there's a whole other audience.

Speaker 4 (24:27):
That we found going on Hulu, and.

Speaker 3 (24:28):
So we're I'm literally seeing comments almost every day of
I just found this show yesterday, or I'm seeing people
on Twitter like have y'all heard this show? You got
to check it out. So I feel like there's a
lot of people, even though we're in season four, just
learning about the show and just finish binging it and
they're like, I need a season five? What am I
going to see? So we'll see, man. I mean, Bounce

(24:49):
has been an amazing partner for Daiji and Thomas as
showrunners to really bring on a new show.

Speaker 4 (24:55):
And I feel like Philip and I have.

Speaker 3 (24:57):
Totally been vested in, you know, being able to really
participate in every way for these stories and we want
to keep telling them. So we'll see, We'll see what happens.

Speaker 1 (25:08):
Well, I'll keep beating the drone and if the universe
aligns everything, hey, you know I'll be on that show
and the author Ladys will go up a lot and
then we'll know we'll get season ten. Broh, we did,
Let's get going we and signe Feld Territory. Then you
know what I mean. Before before I let you go,

(25:31):
I want to talk about some other projects that you're on.
Please share about some of the other projects I've been
following on. I g talk about that if you don't mind,
please look man.

Speaker 3 (25:39):
I think one of the things that has been amazing
is is to see you know, my brothers, you know,
have this show created and get it on air. It's
been inspiring to watch them as showrunners, you know, producing
the show. Uh dais writing the show just the way
they have made sure that we always come in on
time and under budget, and it's inspired Philip and I

(26:02):
and so for me, it really you know, inspired me
to write. And so I have a short film called
Roberta's Rules that we have done through our Skyscope Pictures
banner with my producing partner and co founder M. D. Walton.
Tammy L. Young is also one of the partners in
this production company that we're running. And so Roberta's Rules

(26:23):
is one of the first projects under our banner that's
in the Mishow Film Festival. Now really great festival that's
given a platform for filmmakers to really be able to
tell stories that get seen and heard. And so it's
screening on October twenty sixth at four fifteen. People can
go in my bio and click the link to get

(26:44):
tickets and find out more information. But you know, that
film has been on the film festival circuit and we're
ending the run with this festival, and so I'm just
so proud of it. I'm excited about it. I wrote
it and directed it. It's my directorial debut, and I'm
just looking forward to people seeing it. We've generated, uh,

(27:05):
you know, quite a bit of nominations and awards and
honorable mentions, and I got some really amazing talented people
in it.

Speaker 4 (27:12):
You know.

Speaker 3 (27:14):
Carmen Serrano who plays the title role with Berba's Rules,
Paige Kennedy, my brother who is from the Meg and
Rush Hour and just done so many things Snowfall and
he plays one of the lead characters. You know, Ida Rodriguez,
who's a comedian but first an actor, very talented, plays

(27:35):
lead role in this, as well as Geo Geo Christoph
plays my son in it, who we have amazing chemistry,
and Sean Holland from Clueless and other episodes. I just
got a lot of talent people that really circled around
me to come tell the story. And it's been really
it's amazing to see how it's been recognized with audiences.
And so October twenty sixth, we are going to do uh,

(27:57):
We're gonna We're gonna end this run with their and
we got nominated already for three nominations for the Mi
Show Film Festival. We got nominated for Best Dramatic Short,
we got nominated for Best Dramatic Writing in a Short,
and I got nominated for Best Lead Actor in a Short.
So I'm just you know, encouraged, man, that these as
I venture off and do some different things that I've

(28:17):
inspired from my brothers that to see it come to
fruition and have a team of partners where we're manifesting
what we dream and see and then for to be
welcome by audiences. It's just a great feeling, man. So
I'm excited.

Speaker 1 (28:29):
Man, Well congratulations, I'm excited for you. When I find
out that you're doing it, I was like, man, this
is amazing. And how came ones get chickens again?

Speaker 3 (28:39):
They can go on my bio and just click, just
go to my page. You can find my handle. Derek's Brady.
That's d E R r e X Brady d R
A d Y. So just go to Derek Brady on
my handle on ig and you can just click in
the links and you can get tickets from there and
it'll take you directly to the page. We're in a
block that's called I Love to Remember And four fifteen

(29:04):
is the time slot in Culver City theaters uh in
Culver City, California. It's October twenty sixth at four fifteen.
They can come rock with us in the cast and
watch the film and celebrate with us.

Speaker 1 (29:16):
Sounds good, my brother. So you know what talent runs
in your family, you know you yeah, you shout out
to your son man and what he's doing.

Speaker 3 (29:26):
Oh man, my son Jared Brady. You can find hi.
Man enjoyed Jared Brady. You know he's he's just amazing
talented man. What he's done in the music, creating his
own bitch makes me so proud. He continues to evolve
and now he's getting into directing and writing with his
pops and also acting, and I'm so proud of him
the work ethic that he's put in. And my other

(29:48):
son Cray is also working on music and my son
Julian is an influencer and he's working on music and
so just proud of him. My son Logan is in college,
you know and starting that out. But you know, I'm
just proud of what my sons are doing, you know,
contributing to society. I was very hard on them, very strict.
People think I'm like the easy, fun going dad and

(30:09):
I'm on them. I'm on them, but I'm just probably
what they're doing, man, and what they're creating. And to
see them take the talent that God given talent that
they have and put it in use makes me proud.
So I love to see that. I'm championing them. I
champion them anytime I can and support them. And they're
doing amazing. Man.

Speaker 1 (30:29):
Yeah you said, I'm like that daddy, like like like
John Amos on good times. Hey you know what I mean? Focus?

Speaker 3 (30:35):
Yeah, man, yeah, there, they encourage them.

Speaker 1 (30:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (30:38):
I praise them when they do great, and I challenge
them when they do not as as good as they
could and so uh, but they're doing amazing. Man. They're
good kids, great hearts, and I'm just proud of them. Man.

Speaker 1 (30:48):
That's cool. And and got to give a shout out.
You know to to your wife too, man. You know,
you know when I see pictures of you and her together, man,
you know that that that's amazing, man. And and for
her to be supportive of you and and your sons
and everything. You know, she seems to be a really
really special special woman.

Speaker 3 (31:08):
So shout out absolutely man, that's my right, ha died.

Speaker 4 (31:10):
Man.

Speaker 3 (31:11):
She's been with me from the beginning. When I say
the beginning, the beginning of me trying to figure out
what I want to do, because you know, I used
to dance and go on tour and I was like,
I don't want to do that no more.

Speaker 4 (31:18):
I want to act.

Speaker 3 (31:19):
And she was like okay, and so Kelly Brady, Yeah,
that's that's my age. I mean, we've been building this empire,
this family, this unit, and she'd been with me through
the beginning and she supported me, you know, and so
it's not easy to always find that, you know, and
it's not shout out to her for seeing the potential
and the and.

Speaker 4 (31:40):
The man that I was becoming as I was going.

Speaker 3 (31:42):
From board to man because we've been together since we
were teenagers and seeing the potential.

Speaker 4 (31:46):
Of me as a king and and champion that you.

Speaker 3 (31:49):
Know, it's great to see that black love is real
and to see that happen, and so yeah, I love
her for that absolutely.

Speaker 1 (31:56):
Man. You got to show me some of your old
Dan's videos when you were on tour.

Speaker 3 (32:02):
Hey, man, listen, I have something from Cherylynn and stuff
I did with Ralph Presment from New Edition, and it's like, yo,
people are like what, but yeah, man, I that was
back in the day. Man, I don't even know if
I could do any of that right now. Stretch bro.

Speaker 1 (32:18):
When we get a little older, it's like it takes
a little bit to get to get the pump prime man.

Speaker 3 (32:23):
Yeah. Yeah, I can still keep a beat, I can
still rock with I can still keep a beat, but
all that stuff I used to do, I don't know.
I need to I need to figure some things out
before I do it. But I definitely could rock to
a beat, definitely.

Speaker 1 (32:34):
Well, Derek's my brother. Always good to catch up with you,
always get to chat with you. You know, much success.

to say I appreciate you. It's people like you, you know,
journalists and people on social media and people with podcasts
and shows that write about us, share about us, bring
awareness about us so that there's a TV that depicts
us in an amazing light with humanity. I appreciate that, man,

(33:08):
because if people don't know about it, then they don't
know where to see it. And so shout out to.

Speaker 4 (33:12):
You for always giving me time.

Speaker 3 (33:13):

love that. I'm absolutely honored. Man. Please tell u I
said hi, and give hugs for me.

Speaker 1 (33:34):
I show him my brother.

Speaker 3 (33:35):
You take care, all right, brother?

Speaker 1 (33:37):
That was the awesome, the amazing. Derek's Brady really enjoyed
chatting it with him about the four seasons of Johnson
and just the growth of his character and just his
thoughts of the show and working with some pretty amazing
talent as well other projects he's working on to make

(33:59):
