Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, and welcome to the Entertainment Zone. What is up?
It is me Paul Amaedais Lane. I am so delighted
to have you on our show today. We welcome you.
We're listening here on ABC News affiliate k ME, TAM
and FM and can't forget about you. We're watching us
on live stream and those who are listening on our
(00:21):
podcast formats out there, thank you, thank you, thank you
so much. So what we're gonna do on this edition
of the show. We're going to check in with a
couple of cool, amazing guys from the cast of the arc.
I had an opportunity to interview these gentlemen last year
when the art first dropped, and I'm so delighted to
(00:43):
talk with him again find out about season two. We're
a little over the halfway point here of season two,
so we're gonna get their retro spec of what happened
in the past, the present, and the future. We're going
to be joined by Reese, Richie and Richard Fleischman. Reese
plays Spencer Lane. You know I'm Paul Lane, so I
(01:05):
guess he's my relative. And then Richard, he plays James Rice.
And if you are a fan of the show. You know,
in the first season they kind of had I don't
want to say drama and their relationship, but if you
haven't seen season one, I do not want to spoil
it for you. But this episode we're going to talk
(01:28):
about their characters and much much more. So sit back
and relax and enjoy the show. It's our first time
chatting since season one. So when you both saw the
direction that season two and where it was going with
your character arcs, what were some of the things that
went through both of your minds.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Well, it wasn't just one moment. That's the thing, Like
you expect maybe one plot twist in a season for
your character and then they go into another character and
they try and bring them all together, and it wasn't
just one. It was like these kind of one after
the other of like just surprise after surprise after surprise,
and like it's not only your character, it's how every
other character then reacts to it and getting to shoot
(02:12):
those things. It was just like, yeah, I had a
series of reactions. It wasn't just one. It was just
an incredible joy to do.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
Yeah, Richard, your thoughts.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
Yeah, Similarly, I was kind of a little intimidated at
the scale of what the writers had decided to do
to us all as cast members. I mean, it got
bigger and bigger and bigger episode on episode and episode.
But I guess they wanted to meet the fact that
we've been granted a season two and the fans had
invested in the show with repaying it, with us delivering
(02:46):
something that was going to be a memorable And we're
about halfway.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
Through I think season two airing now.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
And I can only say the trajectories are abut to
get a lot steeper. Things are about to get crazy, crazy,
crazy man.
Speaker 4 (03:03):
The next few weeks is going to be wild.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
So I am quite excited to see what the reaction
is and how the fans takes. We took us a
long time, even as cast members. It took us a
while to kind of get used to a few of
the decisions because they were so bold. And another thing
that set this season apart was they made decisions that
are going to alter the course of the show forever.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
You know, a lot of times in sci fi.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
The tropes are something crazy happens and then yeah, everything's
back together by the end of the episode. That's not
the case with a few of these things. So it's
going to be exciting and also a little a bit
of a roller coaster ride for anyone watching over the
next few weeks, for sure.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
You know, and that's one thing that I noticed about
about Reese, you and Richard's character. And in season one,
you guys started off as road dogs, best buddies, and
then towards the end of that season, you know, you
guys were had odds just because of the decisions that
they're reset your character made. But then like in season two,
we're starting to see kind of like a healing of
(04:02):
that divide and and and how did you both feel
about that? And what were some of the things that
you wanted the fans to really take away from season
two with both of your characters now in this new
environment and just new new crew, new new new ship
and everything, And what were some of the things you
wanted us to do take away from.
Speaker 4 (04:23):
Well, Richard's the musician.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
Musician, I'm not, but I can only imagine it's like
playing in a band. Like I love working with Richard
because we just riff off each other so selfishly. It
was cool to to for Lane and Bryce to be
in these scenes together. We've got a few walk and talks,
and we have the stuff about Lane's dad. More recently,
we have the backstory was it about the wedding Richard
(04:46):
in season one when we're in the coronor there and uh,
you know that that was that was really cool. So yeah,
I think I'm going to answer that question completely selfishly,
is like what I like to how I like like
it's fun working with Richard. We have a lot of
fun and just for our characters to like kind of
fall out of odd and come back together again. It's
(05:09):
just just a joy to go to work and do that.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
We actually we actually did have the conversation I personal
because obviously Reese is my like my boy out there,
like we do everything together. I don't know, I wouldn't
be able to do this job with I'm like, we
were literally are inseparable when we're out filming, and anytime
I'm reading them, they're like, they've made us fall out again, because.
Speaker 4 (05:28):
That's I don't you know.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
So that's why I selfishly I'm like, I like her
and that friends because then I can have my friend.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
You know. That's one of the things that when I
talk with with Jonathan and Dean and also Christy a
few months back when season two dropped, was it's just
refreshing to have sci fi back on sci Fi, you know,
because you know, growing up the Sci Fi Channel, that's
where I went for SG one, That's what I went
for all the for Continuum and all all these different
(05:59):
programs out there, and to have the arc there is
really really refreshing. And for both of you to be
a part of the new science fiction on sci Fi?
What does that mean for both of you to kind
of be a part of this amazing, amazing just show
that we have now we can really enjoy on sci Fi.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
Rich Oh, well, I mean sorry, I thought you were
going to say that.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
Bro.
Speaker 4 (06:28):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
I guess I was maybe a little naive to the
lineage and how hardcore the fan base is. And I've
done a lot of catching up and a lot of
homework over the last couple of years and.
Speaker 4 (06:43):
Realize that you're really, I guess, given.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
This sort of very precious gift in the form of
a fan base that lives and breathes this stuff.
Speaker 4 (06:53):
But you have to treat it very carefully and with
a lot of respect.
Speaker 3 (06:56):
And I feel very lucky that we've got people like
Dean and Jonathan at the Helm because they know this
genre inside and out and they kind of lead from
the front, and we I think we paid our dues
in season one and thankfully people like the show and
we feel very lucky about it, and I'm very feel
very privileged to be involved.
Speaker 4 (07:17):
For sure.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
They're not precious either, are they. They're not like precious creators.
They're not kind of sometimes you can get on these
big things and it feels like you're just there to
do you know, you feel like your job is just
to like keep quiet and just serve the story. Whereas
on this they're very open to like ideas. They'll see
things in the rushes and they'll morph the storyline to
kind of bring that out or its feels quite organic.
(07:38):
And I think that's the great feeling about being a
part of this particular show, is that it feels almost
like a family endeavor rather than kind of, you, you know,
a big studio is going like there you go, make
sure they see the swords in the shield so we
can sell those in the store, and just crack on
with it. You know, it's not kind of. It has
a lot of heart, this show, and I don't think
it's by accident. I think it's because Dean and Jonathan
(08:00):
really care about it, like they genuinely on a personal
level care about the show. It's not just a business
endeavor for them. They've you know, it's their baby, and
that that kind of filters down through the cast. I think,
and the way we approach the show and we feel
a sense of ownership over these characters and and where
they where they play in the story, that's special.
Speaker 4 (08:21):
I think.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
Yeah, and you both do do both of your characters justice,
you know, and Reese and also Richard. I mean, you
guys really put it out there on the on the
screen for us to enjoy. And my final question, you
kind of talked about it. You know, halfway through the season,
we're in for some for some shocks. What are some
(08:42):
other things you'd like to share with us? And if
and when season three is announced, how would you guys
feel about it.
Speaker 3 (08:53):
I mean, I'm going to say nothing about the rest
of the season because i know I've already said way
too much even today in this press they I know,
I'm already like on thin ice because I'm finding it very.
Speaker 4 (09:02):
Difficult to say anything. So I'm going to just shut up.
But no, I mean, I think who knows.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
Nobody knows, we know what you know in terms of
season three, So it's it's depending on loads of things.
It's depending on how it goes down, how people receive it.
And also it's like it's all kind of sometimes those
decisions are high up and decisions well above my pay
grade anyway, so I'll only concern myself with that if
and as and when. But no, of course, to see
(09:30):
my good friends again and get to go and revisit
these characters, that would be an absolute joy.
Speaker 4 (09:36):
So we'll just have to wait and see.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
It's funny, isn't it important, Because as actors, we're so
practiced in like expecting nothing. We literally and with regards
to that, you just kind of occasionally you're entertaining in
your mind. But just we just have no expectations at all,
and that way we can't be too disappointed, I guess.
But so far we've had a great time on this show,
and you know, it's been a pleasure to play these characters.
(09:59):
So we'll see, we will see.
Speaker 1 (10:01):
No, I totally get it, you know, because I've dibbled
and dabbled and and in your side of the entertainment
as well, and you're right, just some of the things
that they go through your mind and everything. Expect nothing
but if things happen, hey, let's rock and rolls make
it happen and that. But but I just want to say,
you know, you both are amazing at what you do.
Hoping and praying for season three and then we see
(10:23):
you had different cons out there like Comic Con and
wonder Con, so we can all hang out, man and
just just just just just basking the greatness of just
what's going on at the Ark and everything. But again,
thanks so much, Thank you both so much. Looking forward
to chatting again and then you both stay well.
Speaker 4 (10:42):
Really that happens. I hope we get to hang out
sometime in the future. Be a pleasure, definitely.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
We always loved speaking to you, Paul, you were We
had a great time last year speaking to you too,
so look forward to speaking again, hopefully in the future.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
A huge shout out to Richard and Breese. Really enjoyed

series The Arc. I'm a huge fan of the show.
