Speaker 1 (00:00):
Entertainment show. More to entertainment. It's on the screen, connecting dots.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
On what you see. Welcome back to the entertainment zone
as me Paul Amadis Lane. Thank you so much for
coming back after our break. If you missed our first
segment of the show, we looked at Cobra Kai and
we talked about this series coming to Fruition and some

(00:27):
of the observations of that, and if you want to
check that out, please check out the first segment of
the show. We also talked about this segment right here.
The great Marcia warfare Roz on NBC's Nightcore. We all

(00:48):
know who she is, and she's even an excellent stand
up comedian as well well. She reprised her role this
iteration of night Court, and it was so great to
see her in this episode, and she came back as
Rose and she even put on the bail of uniform.

(01:14):
That's pretty awesome if you watch that episode. If not,
I'm sorry, I'm gonna talk about it right now. So again,
if you haven't seen it yet and you got a
bane watch, just you know, come back. But just her
interaction and being back on that show, it was like
a breath of fresh air now. I really love when
shows have a continuation and they bring back some of

(01:36):
the old cast. I mean that is amazing. On a
Star Trek it does a great job of that. You
think back to Star Trek Discovery. Remember they brought back
some of the old one Shore. I'm sorry, it wasn't
Star Trek Discovery. It was actually, let me get my
brains together, Star Trek Macard. Remember they brought back Jerry

(02:01):
Ryan who played seven of nine. Also some other characters
like Laura who was an ex board and it was
great to see ones like that. Jordy LaForge. You know,
I love when continuations bring back some of the old
the old cast.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
You know what about you? Do you like that? I
know I do.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
But it is really an honor for me to have
an opportunity to talk to Marshall Warfield about playing Roz.
What was it like being back on the show, because
she was on the show again in earlier episodes, but
she came back, reprised her role and enjoy what I

(02:44):
enjoyed talking to her. Let's bring her on right now.
Thank you so much for giving me the honor and
the privilege to talk with you. I've been a big
fan for many years and and I'm just I'm trying
to hold it together.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
Marsha, No, don't worry about It's just me, you know.
So it's just me.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
So so tell me what was it like to be
asked to come back again and to reprise your role
on this iteration of Night Court.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
It was great. I couldn't I couldn't ask for more.
They they asked me to do the first season. The
end of the first season, the hardest part was hiding
me for the whole show while they taped the whole show,
and I had to hide, so the audience didn't see

(03:32):
me until I came out, and they had no idea
I was there, and I had one line and we
had a hard time getting it out because the ovation
was so big. And that was during COVID, so they
were behind the glass shield and you know, they're all
the COVID protocols, but they, you know, recognized me forty

(03:59):
pounds in forty years later as soon as I came out,
and it was just a nice It was nice to
feel that kind of that kind of affection.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
Well, well you know what, Marcia, you are a television icon.
You know, I remember watching the you know the first
night Court and I always gravitated towards you. Not only that,
I remember when you you did the stand up and
you were talking about Magic Johnson.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
That's still that stills in my mind right now.

Speaker 3 (04:32):
So yeah, yeah, it was a special show. Eddie Murphy
had produced this stand up show in a theater that
was started by Nick Stewart, who played Lightning on a
Miss and Andy, and he and his wife wanted to create

(04:53):
a space where African American performers didn't have to do
that kind of perform they could do more weighty, more things,
more worthy of their talent. And that theater lasted for years, uh,
and it was having a hard time at the time.

(05:16):
Eddie Murphy produced that show and gave it a couple
few more years of life. So it's a special show
for a whole lot of reasons.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
Most most definitely and the new episode that you're in
it was it was amazing to see the interaction.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
Between you, you.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
And Lacreta's character Gergs, because it was like a culmination
of just what you brought and what you meant to
that show.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
No, well, she's has taken the role and made it
her own. And if I had any advice to her,
That's exactly what I would what I did tell it.
I'm like, this is this is your show. Now, this
is not You're not doing a continuation of me. This

(06:08):
is you. And I hope take it. I hope it
does for you what it did for me, and I'm
happy to see it. I'm like her biggest fan. I'm
really really proud of the way she's taken it on
her own. She hasn't tried to be the sassy version.

(06:31):
Now She's got a whole different vibe and I'm happy
to see that.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
And one thing I love about your character, Marcia Roz,
is that you picked up where you left off.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
You know, at that episode you and John Learri Kat's
character Dan.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
You guys had that amazing interaction that we remember from
them the first version. What was it like to act
with him one more time again in this new uh
miss continuation the story.

Speaker 3 (07:01):
I love working with John. He's you know, one of
the first things I did on the original Night Court
with and I'm terrified, I don't know what the heck
I'm doing, and I'm on this, you know, top five
show and this this guy is getting Emmy's thrown at him.
They're like, he'd take two in a time, and they

(07:23):
gave him so many. I means that he took his
name out of contention and I got to work with him.
And they know nothing about acting. In fact, I took
a class, uh right quick, trying to take this class,
and they said, well, read this book and come back
next week. So I went and got the book and

(07:45):
I looked at it and the first line in the
preface said the key to acting is to keep it simple.
So I closed the book and never went back to
the class, and so I had no acting experience what so.
And I had a seed with John in the elevator
with two sumo wrestlers and he was freaking out about

(08:08):
being stuck in the elevator and I slept it and
people loved it, and he was so willing to work
with me through that that that's been our relationship ever since.
I I just watched the episode I did of his show,

(08:32):
of The John Larry ket Show and with Darryl Chill
Mitchell and my friend Liz trus and it was like, Wow,
that was pretty good. I did pretty good with all
of that talent. So I'd love working with John at

(08:54):
any time.

Speaker 1 (08:55):
Yeah, you did very well.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
And I'm a big huge fan of Darryl Chill Mitchell
because he and I have both wheelchair users.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
So when his name, yeah, that's my that's my boy.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
Right. He just posted a picture of him resting in
his wheelchairs. Uh and uh.

Speaker 4 (09:13):
It just made me feel that I wrote him and said,
you are such a gift, because he is and he's
he's managed to because when I met.

Speaker 3 (09:23):
Him, he wasn't in the chair. Absolutely, when I met him,
you know, everything was cool, and then that happened, and
he's never really you know, I know that he had
to have dark moments, but he's always gone forth with
you know, that happened, But I still got a lot
of life and he has not let him let it

(09:45):
stop him in any way. And just to see him
do that, I can imagine the effect that has on
other people to see that it's not about giving up
and it's not about making a state. It's about keeping on,
keeping on and adapting to your new situation. And I

(10:08):
just adore him.

Speaker 1 (10:10):
Yeah, we gotta we gotta keep on moving.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
I always say about about our disabled community is that
we wake up every day trying to problem solved.

Speaker 1 (10:17):
So we just keep it moving and we just we
just keep it going.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
Well we do to everybody. We all got challenges to face,
and so uh, you know, I I admire people who
who keep living. You know. That was one of the
things My mother always said I'd have some kind of problem,
that she'd just keep living.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
Yeah, my dad's living. Keep on living.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
You know, we have the life, don't code like you
you plan it, but it don't stop just because something happened. Uh,
And it's not about what happens. It's about what you
do about what happened. And you know, I think we
all have our burdens. Ain't no perfect people, ain't no

(11:07):
perfect lives. So absolutely just keep on keeping nope.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
And you know, whenever I come across somebody who think
they they perfect, I'll put some water on the ground.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
They walk on that water and they can't.

Speaker 3 (11:18):
So you know, okay, all right, So no, I don't.
I don't have those illusions. You know, we all need
each other and we all we all have positives and
things to contribute, and we all have things that ain't

(11:38):
all that positive. And that's how you balance your life,
you know. And it looks dark today. If the sun
had come out tomorrow, and might come out a little later.
Sometimes it comes out while it's raining. So then you know,
just keep on keeping note, just keeping.

Speaker 1 (11:57):
That is so true.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
And Marshall, what's been your most memorable Night Court moments
that you can share with us?

Speaker 3 (12:07):
I got married, Ross got married. There's no question that's true.
You know, if they never asked me to do another
show again. The show, the episode with Roz's wedding, was
not just the high point for ros It was a
high point for me in my coming out journey. You know,

(12:30):
born in the fifties, there was no gay in my life,
and so what made me different was I didn't know
why people thought I was different. I didn't know that
everybody didn't have the same urges and just had to
comfort as I did. And it wasn't until I was

(12:53):
in my twenties that I realized, Oh, and then everything clicked.
But I still had to stay in the clouse it
so I thought and did, and I never came out
publicly in the first part of my career. I had
to take, you know, twenty years off, come back again,
and then come out in my sixties, and so it's

(13:16):
been an interesting journey. But to have Night Court acknowledge
it without making fun of it, without making a joke
about it, and to treat that part of the story
with such respect and still give me an opportunity to
be fun and funny in other ways. I just think

(13:37):
it's probably one of the greatest moments in my professional career.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
And you know, it was classic to even see you,
Marsha in your old bailiff uniform this last episode. I
mean that just that that was amazing to see that.
And in closing, what type of advice would you give
to this cast here? And they talked about some advice
for for thea Creta, but what for the rest of
the cast? What kind of advice would you give them

(14:07):
just on this journey to set themselves up to have
that longevity that that you and the other cast had.

Speaker 3 (14:15):
Well, I think they're they're well on the way. They
don't need no advice for me. The key is, uh,
Melissa is like Harry was the heart of the show, uh,
and kind of Marky was also. And you can believe
that Harry and Marky made Judge Abbey stones. You can

(14:39):
you can see that uh, and that that that heart
in the midst of the madness of the court and
the madness of the cast. Uh really is what holds
the show together and I think made it last as
long as it has.

Speaker 2 (14:58):
So true, Miss Marshall Warfield, thank you so much for
taking time out to chat with me. It's been an
honor and the privilege and it is so great to
see you and hopefully we get more episodes with you
in it.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
Well.

Speaker 3 (15:10):
Thank you and I'd love to talk to you again
anytime you need me.

Speaker 2 (15:13):
Next up, we have actress Eden Sure who was actually
in that same episode with Marshall Warfield. I got a
chance to ask her what was it like playing her character?
And if you saw that episode, her episode was funny?
What do you think about that ringtone? You know, I'm
an axer about it, not ask her about it if
I'm an axer about that ring tone? And what was

(15:37):
it like, you know, being a part of that cast,
and some of her memorable memories. Now, for our visual
watchers out there who are viewing the show, we don't
have the video. It'll only be audio only, but we'll
put up a nice image of eating while her interview plays.

(15:57):
And we had a really great time chatting, so check
it out. And so Eden, what was it like to
be a part of this episode, and I'm gonna tell
you something. Your character had me going there for a minute,
really yeah, because you were so nice and then you

(16:18):
end up just kind of say embellising the truth a
little bit.

Speaker 5 (16:21):
Yes, well, I think honestly, uh, I was actually impressed
with the script that it turned out that she like
wasn't at the end. It was like, oh, actually, like
I really thought like, oh, yeah, this is gonna be
like what's the what's the predictable way this is gonna go?
And I thought it was gonna be she was a
liars know whatever, And so I think it was a funny.

(16:44):
It was a really funny turn being able to be like,
oh no, all of this is true and now I
can be almost like a little sassy, like a little mean.

Speaker 1 (16:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (16:53):
Yes, so I thought that was I thought it was.

Speaker 3 (16:57):
It was.

Speaker 5 (16:57):
It was fun. It was just a fun There was
enough that wasn't fun about the whole experience. All of
the people were fun to play with. The character was
fun to I was fun to sort of straight man
for like maybe the first time in my life. I
feel like I straight man John lurk At. Yeah, I
don't know, it's fun.

Speaker 2 (17:15):
Yeah, it was. It was amazing. You know, I really
really enjoyed it. And what did you do to kind
of prepare yourself for this episode?

Speaker 5 (17:23):
I mean nothing, if I'm honest to like, nothing, like
I mean other than like watch some Night Court. I
hadn't seen. I really hadn't like seen I because I
was a little too young for the original. But my
mom was a huge, huge, huge fan. And so after
they were like, do you want to do it? And
then I was like yeah. And then I read the
script and I was like, oh, yeah, this is gonna

(17:43):
be a blast. I was like, I'm I should like
definitely go back and watch some and I so that's
what I really did to prepare. I was like, let
me get the I want to. I always like to
try to get You can't ever know the like tone
or like real vibe on set, like you know, because
that's you know, the chemistry of the people. But you
can kind of get what the like what the real
professional what what the what the the you know, uh,

(18:05):
what is it called like professional tone? What is it
called the all screen tone?

Speaker 2 (18:12):
No, no, no worries and and you know, when you
when you look at how that the episode came together
and seeing the final product, you know, just to see
the interaction between you and the other cast members. It
was like one of those episodes you always are going
to remember.

Speaker 5 (18:28):
That is so nice to hear, that's really nice to like.
I'm genuinely I haven't seen the episode. So I'm really
excited to see it.

Speaker 2 (18:35):
Wow, You're going to be blown away because it is.
It is amazing and good definitely. And and when you
when you worked with with with John Larri Katt, when
you worked with Gary Anthony Williams and and and the
rest of the cast there, well, what was kind of
that like working with working with them?

Speaker 5 (18:52):
Well, I have to say, like again, I was a
little too young for a night Court like itself. But uh,
Gary Anthony Williams, I was a fan of from Malcolm
in the Middle I and I was a fan of
actually from other things. I was a fan of the
little show he did. I'm sorry, I don't know. I'm
a huge fan of him. And so meeting him was

(19:14):
like meeting him and meeting Wendy Maleik were like because
I was a huge fan of just shoot me also,
and so I was like, oh my god, they were
so so perfectly them. They were so lovely. Gary was
just I've never other than Melissa, like I've never I
meet the Sometimes I meet these people who are just

(19:35):
so just profoundly nice, just kind, kind and funny people.
And Wendy Malick was perfectly her. She was also she
was amazing. She didn't know she thought I was a
stand in the whole week until shoot day, Wendy, and
then she said, oh, you're really the girl. I was like,

(19:56):
I am the girl, and she said I was quite good.
And I was like, thank you so much, Wendy Malick,
I love you so much. So and then John was
just you know, I feel like he's a masterclass in
how to how to just like take a joke and
make five jokes out of it. And same with Melissa.
Melissa just takes a joke and and like gives you,

(20:17):
gives you five. She's I feel like she's the queen
of like doing a series of it, like like let
me just do five in a row or whatever, and
she'll give you five different versions of the same of
the same line that you didn't think, like how did
you how did you notice say it that way? Experiences?

Speaker 1 (20:31):
That's awesome.

Speaker 2 (20:32):
Thank you so much for sharing that behind the scenes
kind of interaction that's really awesome, I know.

Speaker 5 (20:37):
I mean, yes, it was great good and who was.

Speaker 2 (20:41):
Like the funniest cast member on that set.

Speaker 5 (20:47):
It's really hard to say. They were all. I mean,
they all had brought their own It's like an orchestra.
It's like in an orchestra where you have you got
like you have all these different instruments and it's like
could be a cello solo. And so maybe in that
performance you can say, well, I guess the cello was
the best, but it's like, actually, but the piano was

(21:07):
still was still doing an amazing piano job. So like
I don't know, I can't remember Namby Namby Namby. Oh
yeah he was like he For instance, during rehearsal, I
was I don't want to I don't even want to
say I wasn't impressed. I was like, yeah, no, he's good.
And then I really saw him and I was like, yeah,
I think he actually made me laugh the most. In

(21:28):
watching him do his scenes, I was like, holy, oh
my god, like he is so funny. But then I
was in a scene with then in my scenes with John,
he almost made me break. Then watching Melissa do a
line for the eighth time, and somehow it seemed fresh
horror and then what like, there was no how can
I answer this question?

Speaker 2 (21:46):
Paul, Well, you know, I'm glad you did, because it
really shows just how how much fun that set is
and it is.

Speaker 1 (21:53):
It's pretty awesome.

Speaker 5 (21:54):
Yeah, they're a good, good group. They're a solid group.

Speaker 2 (21:57):
And that's one thing I noticed when I watched back
the episode, was like, how does she keep a straight face?

Speaker 1 (22:02):
You know, because it's had to be hard.

Speaker 5 (22:05):
I mean so much some of the you don't you
just don't see the takes that I don't. I did.
I kept a straight base as much as possible. I
think the adrenaline of having to being scared of disappointing
John le Roquette kept me from breaking most of the time.
But but no, there was definitely a takeer too when
I was like, oh I oh oopsy oops, gotta.

Speaker 1 (22:28):
Go back, go back. I love that.

Speaker 2 (22:31):
I love that eating And even what was kind of
your most memorable part of this whole experience of being
on this on the set and being with these amazing
caster characters.

Speaker 5 (22:44):
Well, there were two moments. One was when Wendy Malick
told me that I don't see the sun much. She
told me. She was like, I was wearing shorts and
she saw my my legs and she was like, you
don't go out in the sun much, do you? And
I was like I don't mind me, malk Oh my god,
I can't believe you noticed me. And there was that,

(23:06):
and then she she put her hand on my shoulder
and I like kind of died, like she put her
hand on my shoulders to like be like, you're so wonderful.
She was telling me that I was great, and I
melted into the ground. And then when my mom met
John Larrocket, Oh wow, I think that was the moment
that I will I will never forget because I saw
a woman who has never in her life not had

(23:28):
a thing to say. I saw her say nothing.

Speaker 3 (23:33):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (23:34):
She was so like she was a hug, huge, huge,
huge fan. So I think watching her actually be a
little fangirl that that's in my mind forever. And John
was just so lovely. He was like, oh I thought
I was talking to a mom, I'm talking to a
little fangirl. Let me let me change how I'm gonna
approach this.

Speaker 2 (23:52):
That is amazing And I would be dare looking my
duties if I didn't ask you about that ring tone.

Speaker 5 (23:58):
I was like, what, wait, what was the ring zone
that they ended up going with because they changed it.

Speaker 1 (24:02):
They changed a bunch okay it was it was Booty Booty,
Booty Booty rocket. Everywhere it was, uh, who who did?
Who did that song? I forget forgetting who was it?

Speaker 5 (24:11):
It was not Florida? Was it was that Florida?

Speaker 2 (24:14):
And I had it in my brain that it just
went out that quick. It was miss New Booty? And
I think you know what, I'm gonna ask Alexa Echo,
who did the song Miss New Booty?

Speaker 3 (24:31):
Song is New Booty.

Speaker 1 (24:33):
Is performed by American rapper Bubba Sparks.

Speaker 2 (24:36):
It was Bubba Sparks and and and the yeah and
the ying yangs yin yangsu and so that was thanks
thanks to Alexa.

Speaker 3 (24:43):
It was.

Speaker 5 (24:45):
It really was a perfect ring tone because I personally,
that is like my that's my high school, Like that's
my you know when you have like there's a genre
of top forty that is your like upbringing, and that
that was every single party I went to throughout all
of high school. And so it was like, yes, this
character would have that as her ring tone.

Speaker 3 (25:06):
Perfect.

Speaker 5 (25:06):
I'm glad they kept it exactly as is.

Speaker 1 (25:08):
Yeah, it was. It was funny.

Speaker 2 (25:09):
I was just cracking up when when when I heard
that over and over again, and and that show is
kind of like what goes on behind the scenes that
we don't see. You know, you had no idea that
they used that ring tone, And it's amazing.

Speaker 5 (25:23):
Yeah, I think that is the one we did during
like while shooting. But you never know what's gonna happen
with Legal, you never know, so like I'm so happy, Yeah,
I'm so happy that that that made it in and
we really don't actually never know what's gonna make it
into the episode.

Speaker 2 (25:38):
Yeah, but but you did it. You did an amazing
job on that character. I was really really blown the
way I've seen you in a number of number of
different other characters, but.

Speaker 1 (25:46):
You played that part.

Speaker 2 (25:47):
And and hope, hopefully, you know, we'll see you come
back here fingers crossed.

Speaker 5 (25:53):
I don't know. I would love to go back, if
they'll if they'll have if they'll have me, I would
love to go back.

Speaker 1 (25:58):
That's amazing.

Speaker 2 (25:59):
And before I let you go eat anything else out there,
you'd like to share with the audience, share with one
just about this whole experience and and just any closing thoughts.

Speaker 5 (26:09):
No, I've had I had a fantastic time. I would
love to go back. I hope you all enjoyed the episode.
It was such a fun, Like it's just it's fun
being a not like a special guest star, but like
a kind of like I don't know, it's it's fun
going in and being like I've played a character for
a long time. Everyone knows like how to be. It's
like people, I don't know, it's just fun going in

(26:30):
and people already being like people like, oh, I know
you can do. I don't have to prove myself, you know,

it'd be nice if you rock some corn rolls.

Speaker 2 (27:31):
You write to corn rolls and get and get another
type of you know, ring toe.

I'm telling me, I'm telling you eating you would break
the Internet.

I probably would, but I don't know. I mean if
I hopefully I would. I don't know if i'd break

I mean, just chatting with her and you know, giving
her some advice if she's on there again, some of
the things that that she should accessorize her hair with.
I think that would be pretty dog gone amazing, And
Alexa made an appearance in the interview.

Speaker 1 (28:52):
You notice that I'm.

Speaker 2 (28:54):
Telling you I use technology when I'm preparing for the show.
When I get stuck, I use AI, I use all
that you know. As a person with a disability, I
need all the help that I can when it comes
to preparing certain things. So it's great, great talking with
Eden and just catching up with her about what it
was like being on the show and further observations. So

(29:19):
when we get back, we're going to be joined by
the beautiful, the amazing Sarah Garcia, who stars in NBC's
new hit show, The Hunting Party.
