(00:02):
No, I'm just saying DreamWorks mighthave a shot. I mean, you
see you put some boosts in thelights, wish it's a really good movie.
Oh hey, everybody, what's up? Welcome back to the Game Changer
Podcast. I'm your host Nathia forGreat Joint here by the lovely Torri Clark,
and we are continuing the Golden Agetalking about Disney with the three other
movies that really hit hard, thatbeing Fantasia, Dumbo, and Bambi,
(00:28):
which, honestly, watching all threeof these movies back, I have a
deeper respect for Fantasia. I'm seeingDumbo in a different light, and Bamby
I literally was like, Wow,this is literally Disney's version of ham Taro
at this point, only the motherdies sam Taro. What a throwback?
(00:49):
I know. Really, it wasjust one of those things where I'm like,
what else can I really describe itas? It's It's just it's just
that. But we'll get to talkingabout that. So let's first talk about
Fantasia. Honestly, guys, Iwould consider this to be honestly a masterpiece
of the early Disney deal. AndI truly mean that because this is literally
(01:11):
a movie that is almost like havinga silent film with music in the background,
very little dialogue, supperate in between, when they introduce a lot of
the music and the genres of eachof the themes, and yeah, like
I said, honestly, it's justvery beautifully done. And we'll talk about
(01:32):
the first of all the songs thatthey head air, which are Takata in
D minor, the Nutcracker Suite,Sorcerer's Apprentice, Right of Spring, the
Pastoral Symphony, Dance of the Hours, and Night on Bald Mountain, Fallowood,
(01:55):
Bye Ave Maria. So first talkingabout that long introduction in D minor
and the Nutcracker Suite. Honestly apretty good starting point. This is definitely
one of those where you're just kindof showcasing, like, hey, we're
Disney, we can make cool thingswith great music. And honestly, it
(02:15):
really does showcase with this start, these two starting pieces, and I'm putting
these two together because they're in essencekind of the same thing. They're just
introducing the audience to just very beautiful, whimsical sights. The second one,
Nutcracker Suitet, definitely is one ofthose songs that you know Nutcracker, it's
(02:35):
it's kind of a kind of ashow to me. But honestly, the
way that they introduce it with alot of the different you know, nature
deals they have, like leaves andmushrooms and fairies introducing that, and it's
really beautiful honestly. But I know, Tory, what'd you think about the
first two musical numbers on this movie? I think in general, one thing
(02:57):
I thought was interesting when I waslike really re examining Fantasia was the fact
that it was a little change. Is this the one with the nymphs going
through it? So I don't Idon't know them by names like each the
Is that the one with the creatureslike the centaurs, all these different nature?
(03:21):
Yes, spring, yes, Yeah, I really it really shows Disney's
age. It was very pretty beautiful. It reminds me of like, you
know, they're Bambi and all that, the nature, the beauty. But
one thing that I was interested intalking about in this is like one of
the scenes was actually cut from there releases. Do you know that?
(03:43):
Yeah? I do know that.I was actually doing a little bit of
research on that. Yeah, Andso that was I'm like, I'm pretty
sure it was this from this initialshot that they had like a caricature that
seemed racist or a racist caricature. But I mean it was Disney in the
fifties, so yeah, we releasedin nineteen sixty nine had to adjust for
(04:09):
that, which I you know, that's what happens when you have these old
old time Disney films, You're gonnahave some questionable imagery. Absolutely, yes.
So from there we go to TheSorcerer's Apprentice, which is basically the
big debut of one of their mosticonic characters, that being Mickey Mouse,
(04:30):
who is SORCER's Apprentice who literally watcheshis quote unquote master. I think they
actually had a name for this guy. I have to pull that up really
quick here. Gosh, I'm tryingto remember the name of the game.
Well, I don't remember that atall. I just I just had it,
so I had to figure out itwas. Oh gosh, now I
(04:53):
cannot seem to find it. Ithought I thought I had it Master Sorcerer
Wizard. Oh yeh, Yen Sid, that's who it was. Good,
So you know why, I like, what's who is that is that?
Honestly, I don't know. Ijust knew the sorcery Jen Sid, So
you know, something. I livehere. We're going to do a little
bit of research on this. Whois jen Sid and what on earth is
(05:15):
he all about? I'm just wonderingbecause it's such a random It is a
random kind of a name there.So he's a I guess grand wizards.
He's magic potential and trusts me.Jeez, that's not going to help me.
That's a that's a video game ofwhat masters it is? Okay,
here we go, Here we go, So this will be interesting. So
(05:38):
what does Yenid mean? I mean, Oh my gosh, are they trolling
us? No, it's really funny. So the first line in this one
it says, what does Jen Sidmean? Meaning Disney spelled backwards? That
is so funny. I know.I'm just okay, I'm glad I asked
(06:00):
the question. I'm glad I askedthe question because I'm like, that's so
random, Like why did they like? It? Almost sounded like I g
a composer, like you know how, like like like a Chinese composers.
I'm like, yin Sid something stronglike, Nope, it is just Disney
backwards. I really love that now. I appreciate that up. So this
(06:20):
is why we asked questions exactly. So the story itself is pretty pretty basic,
and honestly, it's a pretty gooddebut for for Mickey, basically being
just this apprentice that doesn't want todo work, so he gets the room
sticks to do it, but thenhe finds out, Uh, this guy
just keeps going and going and going. You're not gonna do it. And
(06:42):
then he's just like, oh,just take care of it. The next
try it's hard. Nope, nowyou got a hundred of them going crazy,
and then it's Finny Yen sid it'samazing, basically calms everything down and
it's just like, oh, nowyou're gonta do all the work over again.
He's like, okay, and I'mseeing it's a pretty it's a pretty
good master me. It's one ofthose things where you know, some people
(07:05):
might forget it, but once youget to Fantasia two thousand, they'll remind
you, Hey, we did thisagain. So yeah, I think that's
my most memorable. Like that's whywhen you're like naming them, I'm like,
I don't know if I'll be ableto get them from name. I'm
like, uh, is this whatthis happens? Because Fantasia is so so
long ago? But this is ofcourse, I think this was my favorite
(07:28):
one just because of the lessons learnedand poor Mickey not not being ready.
He wasn't ready. But but bydebut you mean like debut and like film.
Yes, okay, just I'm justquestioning, and that's what I'm here
for, Nate, is to questionyou. So by Mickey debut, I
(07:50):
mean he was in Steamboat Willie andstuff. Yes, he's in Steambaw Willie.
He was in The Silly Symphonies.Yes you are correct. This is
basically his feature film debut. Yeato be correct. And it won't be
the last time that we see himin these feature films because there are a
couple other films here that actually showcasehim in different roles and different kind of
characteristics, so this will be kindof cool. But yeah, no,
(08:15):
this was actually a really good wayto debut and I kind of character Then
we go to the writer Spring, which to me, this stands out to
me the most. And why isthat because they do a really impressive way
of introducing the fans of Disney todinosaurs. They go to this whole stage
of like how evolution kind of happenedwhere they have these like little cells that
(08:39):
develop in the water and then eventuallythese cells great legs and stuff like that.
So for those of you that believein evolution, you'll probably just enjoy
that. For me, it's justlike it's just a beautiful, beautiful deal.
Then it fast forwards a bit andthen you see the dinosaurs and then
there's a big battle sequence between astegosaurus and a tyrannosaurus. And the crazy
thing is is that you never hearthe dinosaurs make any noise, and it's
(09:01):
all just through music. It's brilliantly. It's still one of those things where
I think as a kid, itdefinitely frightened me a bit, but now
I look keep looking back on it, and I'm like, this is probably
one of the best ways to justkind of introduce I don't know if it's
to introduced, but basically get peoplekind of interested in what dinosaurs were kind
(09:22):
of like, and kind of likethe battles and the struggles they didn't do
with because in the end, unfortunatelythey go it's extinct because starvation and dehydration
everything like that. So it getsto be a bit dark at the end.
I mean literally you do see dinosaurbones literally in the middle of a
desert and it's like, oh wow, they went down that path. It's
(09:43):
like, yeah, no, theythey wanted to really introduce that, like,
hey, this is basically where adinosaurs live and now they're dead.
Yeah, I mean, I lovemyself a good dinosaur. But yeah,
no, it's it's just very well. But I think that there was even
some people that did like a remakeof that, but they actually included like
dinosaur noises, including like noises oflike the dinosaurs making noises, the big
(10:09):
stomping and the dinosaur of roars andstuff like that. It's definitely surreal as
well as there was Like, Okay, I appreciate the thought, but I
like the original one better because itliterally is just like you know, you're
watching the visual and like a silentfilm, the music kind of makes it
more meaningful. I think, Yeah, I have a question for you again,
(10:31):
and I know keep asking all thesequestions to you know, put you
on the spot, But do youknow if Fantasia like what came first the
chicken or the egg, Like isit the animation or the music pieces or
did they like actually sit down andwrite music to the animation. So if
(10:54):
I had to take a guess.I mean, this is probably a good
discussion point. I didn't really dotoo much research on this, but if
I had to take a guess,I would probably think that the I think
it definitely has to be like themusic came first, and then they try
to have the animation kind of matchup with it. And in the end,
(11:15):
though, it's one of those thingswhere it's like, I don't think
it really matters because in my opinion, they kind of compliment each other in
a very well done kind of way. So it's one of those things where
you know, I wish I hadthe perfect answer for you, but for
me, I'm just like, inthe end, I don't really care because
it's a beautiful movie. It isdefinitely one of those movies I look back
(11:35):
at. I think, if youwant to see Disney at it's finest,
definitely Fantation. Which is weird becausea lot of people are saying, like
back in the day, it wasn'tvery well received. I think right now,
this was probably like the lowest grossingmovie of Disney so far, even
though it's their third movie. Theyhad a budget of two point twenty eight
million dollars and they made about sixpoint four to eighty three point three million,
(12:03):
and that's across the United States andFantasios, So definitely seems like it
was not as big as Pinocchio andsnow White were. But I think a
lot of people are definitely looking backat it and just being like, yeah,
this is a this is a reallygood movie. This is definitely very
beautiful. I'll definitely just combine likethe last few once together. So Petrol
(12:26):
Symphony, which is the whole likeRoman deo where you have back yes,
the the god of wine. HopefullyI said that, rights. I know
there's gonna be some Greek people thatwill probably be like, oh, it's
this swim like, I'm sorry. And they have like the Centaurs, which
I've seen the research. Oh that'sthe one I was talking. Yeah,
yeah, yeah, that's the oneI was. This is the one where
they had the questionable character. Butalso so between that and there were also
(12:52):
points where people were saying, likethe some of the Centaurs, especially the
female ones, were a two what'sthe word I'm looking for? Too revealing,
I think is the case. Sothey basically are just like, can
we have something just to cover thechestish area? And they're like yeah,
sure, it's fine, we coulddefinitely do that. I think they also
(13:13):
wanted the male centers to feel lessintimidating, which I thought you can make
centaur centaurs intimidating. That's uh,I never thought you could do that,
but okay. And then basically atthe end of this whole deal, this
is where Zeus comes in. Hebasically ruins everything and it gets me just
a crazy madness deal. It isdefinitely one of those spots in the film
(13:35):
where I'm just kind of like, what is all of this? But at
the same time, I'm just kindof like, this is a very unique
and surreal deal. And when weget to talk about Hercules, it is
definitely going to be interesting to belike, well, we went from uh,
this Zeus to a different Zeus.I love that the Zeu's too different.
(13:56):
Oh, by the way, Idid Google. I googled the question
too, Okay, so it kindof kind of made me seem dumb.
Obviously, the music came first becausethey're classical pieces, which I'm like,
well, yeah, but I meantnot like wrote the music for Fantasia,
but like, did they do theanimation and the music? But no,
(14:18):
the music definitely came first, soit was kind of the chicken came burst
or something like that. I don'tknow. Yes, yes, with eight
pre existing works of classical music,so the film obviously did the animation for
the pieces that they chose. Yeah. The next song is Dance of the
(14:41):
Hours, which honestly not really toomuch you can say about it. You
have, I think there was likewhat was there. There's ostriches, hippos,
elephants, and then algaetors. Theybasically go through like dancing dancing.
I think that's really all you canreally put put on that. This was
probably the one where I was justlike, Eh, it is what it
is. Then we get to nighton bald Out and holy shit, this
(15:05):
was one of those things where it'slike, if you wanted a banger of
an animation to end the movie, this was definitely it. Basically. I
mean even even the guy who didthe introduction to it, he basically saying,
no, this is basically how itis, where you know, the
devil with all of his demons arecoming out, coming out in the nights,
and the way that this animation goesabout this is one of those things
where I'm like, I guarantee therewere kids that were just screaming at nights
(15:28):
just thinking about this literal gargoyle thatwas just that was just you know,
up in the mountaintops and all theselike fire creatures who are just this is
just beautiful animation. And of courseat the end of it, it's basically
a bell that is his weakness.May it's basically say that, oh it's
(15:48):
six o'clock, Okay, time togo to bed. I mean, it's
so it is scary. I thinkthat's like the more we talk about Fantation
now is the more like I cansee why I wasn't a big fan of
Fantasia. Like I still am nota huge fan. That I can respect
it a lot more than I didas a kid, But this stuff is
(16:11):
scary. Stuff doesn't doesn't appeal tome as a child. When that's when
you're watching Pinocchio and all this, like these little cutesies that you're like,
oh, I can kind of getbehind that as a kid, but Fantasia
was just like why aren't they talking? And why aren't these animals talking?
And why is it? Like themusic almost makes it scarier because of the
(16:34):
crashes and the loudness, and Imean, I think the right way to
see Fantasia would be to see iton a screen with a live orchestra like
that would be amazing and I canrespect it even more then. And I
know they had some like they havethose events sometimes, but other than that,
(16:56):
I was like, ooh, Icould see why I wasn't a fan.
And like I said, as timegoes on, I definitely respect it
a lot more just because of thefact that it's a unique, but also
be because of the fact that it'ssomething completely different. And eventually we do
see Fantasia two thousand try to recreatethat, and we'll get to that in
another day. But honestly, thiswas this was a very beautifully done film,
(17:21):
and like I said, I've definitelygotten a lot more respect for it.
So it's very well done. Animationtoo, is granted, like you
were saying, animation is amazing, but just a little too scary. Yeah,
like you said, there's some pointswhere it's just like, Okay,
this is really good. But thenthere's some points of the animation it's just
like, oh God, can wejust move on to like the next And
(17:44):
then next thing you know, youget bald Mountain and I'm like, okay,
now, that's good again, andyou know, I like, let's
be real, I don't think thetarget audience for Fantasia was children. No,
no, I definitely you know,it's definitely not. And like,
I think that's where like when Iwas growing up, when like Fantasia was
like when my parents brought home thatmovie, you're like, oh, finally
(18:07):
a new movie, and you're like, this is awful, Like this is
a time I got ripped off.As the kid, you're like, wait
a second. But as an adult, like, again, everybody should watch
all Disney movies again as an adult. I think that's something that like is
a blanket statement I could put overeach one. You'll figure out something new
(18:32):
and respect for it differently, ormaybe you hate it. Then you're like,
oh, this wasn't that wasn't thatgood. But Fantasia is one of
those that I was like, oh, this was meant for adults, right,
definitely broadens your horizon, speaking ofwhich is a pretty good transition to
the next movie, which is Dumbo. Uh let me get let me get
(18:53):
my notes on that one quick herebecause I forgot about that. So Dumbo
release on October twenty third, nineteenforty one, in New York City honesty.
Can't really blame them for doing that, and then released to the entire
USA on October thirty first, nineteenforty one, So this was on Halloween.
(19:15):
So that's kind of funny to think, like, well, kids,
you got two absents. You wantto go trick or treating? Or do
you want to see a movie aboutan elephant? And if he does get
in costume, that is also getsin costumes, is true? I forgot
about that. So Dumbo is amovie where it talks about a small,
(19:37):
packy, dorm small elephant who isgifted with big ears and basically this little
elephant is trying to get through lifewith so many difference. Just it is
really sad looking back at and justseeing how this little elephant is just getting
very little to no love from therest of the world because he is so
(20:00):
different. It's one of those thingswhere it hits differently because you just think,
yourself, man, this poor littleguy, he's just trying to live
life. And to be honest, that is probably one of the reasons why
I think a lot of people lovethe mouse Timothy is because he's the first
one to be like, I don'tsee anything wrong with him. It's like,
Hey, Dumble's gonna get a friend. That's awesome. And I will
(20:22):
say this that this movie started offvery bizarrely because first minute I started watching
this, I just hear this hugegrand narration of it being like, oh,
through the wind and rain and throughthe storm in nights and here comes
the stork. And then just goesinto like, oh, here comes the
storks and they're delivering babies. Andit's like, huh, this just kind
(20:45):
of escalated from a ten to likea five in a matter of one minute
because because of the stork. No, because of how it just kind of
went from like this branding to justlook up, he's called me. Just
what I was like, Wow,it's kind of de escalated quickly. But
(21:07):
at the same time I kind ofadmire that, just because yeah, I
send off though Nate, I thoughtbabies came from storks. Hey, they
figured at least two or three moviesabout that right now, one of which
was My dream Works not a cheapAre you sponsored? Are you sponsored?
Oh? No, no, nono. Just because I'm watching Poison Boots
(21:30):
the Last Witch, it doesn't meanthat I'm sponsored. I actually heard that
is semi like, well again,my niece is before. But I heard
it's great. It is side note, definitely watch It's amazing. Okay,
so dumb bo so so. Sohere's the crazy thing about this is that,
(21:55):
uh, I gotta figure out theperson who played this stork because one
of the cool things was that assoon as I heard the the stork's voice,
I literally thought to myself, oh, geez, I recognize this guy.
Oh that's right. He was alsothe oh it's a sterling Holloway,
(22:15):
so he'll be voicing another character ina future movie, that being in the
Jungle Book. So that was kindof but I also remember that he was
also the no, he's ca inthe Jungle Book. Oh okay, now
I know you were talking about Iwas like, I don't like. I'm
(22:36):
like, I don't think I heardthat voice. So the other cool thing
is that this guy also was astork in one of the uh one of
the Disney stories that I want tosay some other silly sympathy, Lambert the
Sheepish Lion. He was also thestork that delivered Lambert the Lion by accident
to a to a to a mothersheep. So it's just what I was
(22:59):
Things like huh, so we gotan exempt this job. Well he's good
at one instance. The second instance, well he did he did what he
was told. Let's just say that. I really appreciate that. But also
another voice actor actress who is inthis who will be another movie that we
(23:21):
will have, that being ah VernaFelton, who not only voices the as
they put in here, the elephantmatriarch, but also missus Jumbo. So
she literally had two voice rolls inthis entire thing. And I'm like,
okay, so she's being this topand humpous elephant and then she had have
(23:42):
this kind of meek and very kindof lowly voice of being a mom.
So it's just what I was like, Oh wow, she's really good.
And then I think to myself, wait, she also looked at her filmography.
Yep, she's also the Queen ofHearts and Alison in the wunderline.
I'm like, yes, no,yes, what wait, we're talking about
the mom mom elephant, the momelephant and the and the kind of like
(24:07):
mitriarch elephant, the one who hadlike a lot of purple. It was
just very high on her sell itlike oh yeah, yeah, weird.
I know. This is one ofthose things were like, oh my gosh,
the more you know, I lovethis. I love this crazy enough.
The title character, Dumbo is mute, does not say a single thing,
this entire thing, And honestly Irespect that because it's literally just by
(24:33):
his emotions where you basically have tofeel like, Okay, what is he
about? How does he feeling? And it's just he's just so freaking adorable.
It's one of those things where I'mjust like, Okay, I know
I give Pinocchio a lot of grieffor everything he did, but Dumbo's baby
elephant. Baby elephants are cute, especially this one. It's got big ears.
I don't care what anybody says. He's freaking adorable, you kidd me,
(24:55):
he is. And yeah, Dumbois one of those that like holes
on your strings and stuff. Ithink it also does it started out with
the crows, right, No,it ends with the crows, It starts
with the storks ends. Yeah.Again, Dumbo is one of those that
you're like, are they allowed todo that? So I wanted to do
(25:19):
all this. So the crazy partabout this is that the storks for me,
I looked back after we watching thismovie, I was just literally kind
of like, you know what,I don't feel that offended when it comes
to them. Obviously, I can'tspeak for everybody when it comes to that,
but it's just one of those thingslike, these are characters. These
(25:41):
are not just one of those thingswhere it's like, oh, this is
the shut at this racial thing.No. No, these are people that
are given a character, and theseare the ones that came out. Unfortunately
it came out as racially insensitive. So but it's just one of those things
where I look back and the I'mjust kind of like, you have to
remember this that a lot of thecharacters that people will remember. Are they
(26:03):
gonna remember a lot of the herdsof the Elephants? No, I think
I remember all the clowns that wereinvolved in this. No, I think
I remember the cross. You betyour bottom Dollar're gonna remember the clothes because
they had one of the best songs, most memorable songs, yeah, the
entire movie. And also they werejust very memorable characters. For me.
The one thing that would trouble mewas one of the songs in here,
(26:25):
that the Song of Rustabouts, wherebasically it is talking about slavery. It's
one of those things where I hadto watch these lyrics. I'm like,
what, how did they get awaywith us for so long? Basically like
work all day, work all nights, basically not making them much the way
of money. I'm just looking atthis like, how in the world let's
(26:48):
get greenlit by anyone? And howis it still? How is it still
in the movie? Is one ofthose things where I'm just like, what
no, no oh, this isone of those songs I want out getting
out of the movie. I definitelyvote know, although that's funny if I
can, I will say there isa positive on this one is that that
(27:14):
song baby Mine, which my god, is that a tear jerker that actually
got nominated for an Academy Award forBest Original Song didn't win it, But
at the same time, I'm gladthat somebody got recognized for that work.
That was really great. Yeah,Dumbo made fun of loses all the all
(27:34):
the love, which we go wego from Baby Mine to the the other
big thing that happened during this movie, which my god Rewatching this, I'm
literally thinking to myself, how manymushrooms do these people have when they thought
of this scene being the pink elephantson parade? Because that was it is
(27:59):
creepy, regardless of how trippy itis, it was creeping me out regardless.
I think after watching that again,my jaw was on the ground,
being like what am I watching? This is just it's kind of one of
those moments where you're just like inshock that the only thing that you can
do after watching it is you justhave to laugh, like, Okay,
(28:23):
my emotions don't know how to handlethis right now. And they were drunk,
right, I'm like, what wasn'tdidn't the mouse and Dumbo get drunk?
Yeah, it was one of thosethings where, yeah, the the
clowns were having another of the champineand then one just accidentally threw it in
bucket and to kind of help calmdown Dumbo, Timothy thought, oh,
(28:48):
here's a bucket of water, justtake this, and Dumbo unfortunately gets drunk
in this one. Then Timothy unfortunatelyfalls in and he gets drunk, and
so funny, Like that's what I'msaying, like this isn't allowed anymore,
but that's hilarious, and like that'swhat they were like showing alcohol being like
(29:11):
a drug trip, which is hilarious, which alcohol is a drug, don't
get me wrong, But come on, I've never seen any elephants, crazy
colors, yelling clown faces at myface like, no, no, I
don't hallucinate when I drink. Inever feel like I'm going to be upside
(29:32):
down on my bed and seeing elephantsjust walking around my bed, just going
up and down, thinking what willI do? What'll I do? Want
an unusual view? Good call,But no, that is really creepy and
yeah, that ever does happen toyou, Nate? I think that you
(29:52):
should be checked to see, likesomebody spiked your drink, they gave you
a roofee, they're trying to tryingto get with you. I don't know,
you know what that is fair, especially considering the fact that after they
get drunk, they find themselves atthe top of a tree where apparently you
find out, hey, Dumbo canfly, So how did we get up
(30:15):
here? That was one of thebest, one of the best scenes in
the whole movies, just I'm tryingto fire like they do that. And
then of course we get the memorablesong of I've Seen about Everything when I
see Nan the fit flap, whichit's the best song in the entire movie.
Yeah, so overall, This isone of those movies where there are
(30:38):
a couple of like color tugging moments, but it's one of those things where
I feel like you have to bein a certain state of mind to watch
this movie. Agreed, very much. So I would I say it's a
drinking game. No, No,I think I think if you if you're
if you're buzzed, and you watchthat Pink Elephants, and you will probably
(31:02):
be thinking of yourself, I've hadtoo much to drink. Yeah, yeah,
I think I think that. Ithink Dumbo is one of those that
it's supposed to teach you a prettygood lesson, you know, like talks
a lot about discrimination and bullying andall that stuff, you know, like
it has some really deep, darkerthemes that a lot of the Disney movies
(31:26):
now, like they touch on differentthings, but like prejudice and bullying,
discrimination like that was very much solike ahead of their time almost So it
did good. It did good, but as we saw now, we're like,
ooh, a little much for us, now, can you take a
(31:48):
pull it back a little bit?So making us all feel weirdly only slightly,
only only slightly, and by slightlyI mean about this much, and
by this much, I mean thatmuch. You can't really see, but
I'm literally given like a full introal ladies and gentlemen. We're still working
on possibly getting this into a videodeal right now. We're not quite there
yet, We're getting there. We'regetting close, but eventually we will have
(32:09):
the chance for you guys to seeus purry little faces. So now we
go into the final movie, whichis Bumby, which I I swear honestly,
if I would have figured that PatrickStewart was was the Prince of the
(32:31):
Forest, Baby's dad, Baby's dad, that would have been absolutely I said,
if oh, saying these you've beensaying that the voice actors, I'm
like, wait he did what? No? No, if no, it's
it's definitely not very regal voice, though he still has a very real Oh
(32:53):
yes, yeah, Patrick Stewart wasthe one that that was the great Prince
of the Forest. That would haveamazing. Honestly, I probably would have
been kind of chuckling to myself, like, it's Patrick Stewart's but no,
it's it's not U. So yeah, Disney's version of ham Taro. I
think that's probably the best way Ican put this honestly, because do you
(33:15):
think do people think to themselves,oh, you're gonna have like a great
adventure or stuff like that. It'slike probably not. I mean, it's
not like till the very end thatthey get really really dark. Honestly.
You're seeing a lot of like againbeautiful imagery by Disney, where they basically
(33:35):
show nature. They show a lotof these, you know, beautiful creatures
and like owls and birds and bunniesand deer. It's just kind of one
of those things where I really watchedthis and I think I actually texted you
this. I literally just said,I'm watching Bambi and I'm just I don't
know what it is, but Ijust can't help but smile a lot when
it comest. I think it's justa very calming and relaxing movie for the
(33:58):
most part, where you're just seeingeverything going on here. You're just seeing
this little little deer just growing upand it's learning to walk and it's learning
to talk and learning to you know, just socialize and stuff like that.
And there's so many moments in herewhere I'm just kind of like, you
know what, there's a lot ofrelatable moments when it comes to this,
And honestly, I also love howjust warm hearted this movie is like that
(34:24):
first scene where baby is learning totalk. He's learning you know where it's
like bird, butterfly, Flower, and that's where he meets a skunk that
basically is named Flower. And honestly, it's just so so warm hearted when
literally this little deer Bambi is goingpretty pretty Flower, and Flower is just
(34:47):
literally just going like, oh gosh, it's just a drrible. It's just
one of those things where I'm like, why can't we have a world like
this where just one day everybody getsalong nostalgic too, like that's Bamby is
one of those that obviously I actuallyreally really liked Bamby growing up. I
just would stop it before bad thingshappened, Like I remember, like my
(35:13):
mom would have to like turn itoff before you know, anything bad.
Not that I'm going to give spoilers, but in general, I think it
Like what I love most about Bambyis like when you were saying it like
relaxes you and stuff. I feellike it's like a homage to like almost
like Midwestern America, Like it's somuch the forest, the deciduous forests,
(35:37):
like it's just like North America's forestlife, and it's really beautiful and it
reminds me of the Midwest, likeone hundred percent, like when I think
of them, because I also thinkof like, you know, if you
had a grandpa or your dad everhunted and they have like the deer stuff
and whatnot and all the different wildlifelike almost like the look of some of
(35:59):
them my grandparents' homes reminded me ofthis movie. You know, yeah,
I can agree with that, right. It does have kind of like the
deal like if you remember like alot of their like photos that would be
hanging up on their walls. Yes, it kind of just looks like that.
Yes, that's it. I'm like, whenever I see being I'm like,
oh my gosh, Like that waslike a time frame in life.
(36:22):
And it's always like a grandparent, right, it's like, oh, like
well like and they would have deerand like bunnies places and you're like,
oh, this is this is Bambi. I think one of my favorite characters
was always Thumper, and not forthe reason you might think, but at
the very start, there were somany moments where he would just say something
(36:45):
and the mom would just be likewhat did your father tell you this morning?
And he's just being toted. He'slike, I can't do it.
If you can't say something nice, don't say it at all, and like
the like the like yeah, yeah, just you could just see like the
(37:10):
little kids, they're like, it'ssuch she's such a little kid. But
like supper, And then it getsyou even crazier because once we get to
the you know what we are goingto spoilers about this? I can ob
yeah we haven't seen it, butso so here's so here's your here's your
(37:35):
spoiler, ladies and gentlemen. Asthe late Great Matthew Perry once said as
Chandler, yes, it was reallysad when the artists stopped drawing the deer.
Huh. So. Unfortunately, duringthe movie, Bambi's mother dies and
it's one of those scenes that definitelystill hits really hard because it's just this
(37:57):
one deer just calling off for hismom, and there's just a moment where
he suddenly realizes, you know, that that she's not coming back. That
hits so hard, especially when youget to hear the Great Prince say and
this is one thing that really hitsme really hard with this because I think
(38:19):
to myself, Okay, so hecalls Bambie his son, and two things
are going through my head. It'seither A, he is a legit kid
or b that's just his way ofjust slowly adopting him to be his son,
because obviously he probably would have madeit on his own. So it's
just kind of those things like there'sa double meaning in a Bambei movie.
(38:40):
Disney, Why do you got tobe so amazing? Why do you got
to make me think like this?Right? It does? It's interesting.
It is I don't know if heis like truly his dad or not either,
like you're like, okay, ishe like because when they call him
the Prince of the forest and everything, you're kind of like, oh,
like everybody his children and like amove fuss thing, which we'll talk about
(39:05):
when we get to Lion King. But yeah, it's it's it was interesting,
and you I forget what did hetell Bamby too? Did he tell
Bamily he's like alone? Now?Yeah, it was just like you know't
no, she's not coming and maybejust has that moment of realizing that he's
(39:27):
rights your move land before time. That was that that was sad I actually
recently rewatched Land Before Time, andI just remember being like, this isn't
even a Disney movie. How arethey killing the mom? That's gonna be
(39:47):
another good movie? Well, we'rereviewing eventually. But then they go into
like their adulthood and the the friendall, which, in all honesty,
I look a friend all and Ithink to myself, this is every grandparent
ever where he's like, he's sonice, but when he gets pushed to
his limits, he could be thebiggest crouch. So you could possibly this
(40:12):
one. Look. Oh see, you're right, just the one look.
It's just like that is that isa grandparent move right there, We're just
looking, okay, everybody quiet.Grandpa's looking at us. That means you
can hear us. And uh thatgrandparent talks about the winnipeed. That's what
(40:37):
it was, basically, you know, falling in love because it's during the
springtime and all three uh Thumper Flower, yeah, Thumper Flower and baby like,
oh, they're not gonna fall andthat's like nop, you did.
You did slowly, but surely it'sjust one of those things where I'm just
watching this be like, you knowwhat, everybody falls in love in a
different way, and honestly that's whythat's this is really good. In the
(41:01):
end, we get the introduction ofman who who basically are like, oh,
we're gonna hunt. Oh crap,we started a forest fire. It's
like, yeah, way to go, dudes. Why we suck? Man,
we suck? Yeah, sorry,we're here to suck. Like damn
(41:22):
it, here we go again, making us feel bad. Disney, of
course this is basically like The BigClimax and Bambi Great Prince. They rescue
everybody or as many as they can. There is legit one scene where they
basically show uh what one of thepheasants getting shot down. I'm like,
(41:44):
some kid has got questions and I'mnot going to answer them. That is
I think that's the best part ofbeing an unchlorinet or an answer just being
literally like if something happens and andyour niece or nephew is just like,
why did this happen? I'm like, might just go ask your parents what
about this? I'm sure they wouldlove to explain my job. My job'sould
(42:06):
be the fun one. I'm notgoing to burst your fun bubble talk to
your parents about the harshness of reality. I just take you to the movies.
I don't talk about them afterwards.I forget. How are you four?
Yeah, no, we're not atthat point yet. Wait until you're
about ten. Then we'll start havingreal talks. That's when I'll give you
(42:27):
your first drink. So jeez, calm down. But uh, maybe it's
just another one of those movies thatI feel like you do still have to
be in the right you have tobe in a certain mindset to watch.
But at the same time, Ifeel like you could still watch it on
(42:49):
just a random day and just feelpretty calm to relaxed up until a certain
point. Then it's just like, this is getting too real for me.
Just first half hour, forty fiveminutes. I want to say, is
when it's just nice, it's peaceful, relaxing. It's just like the rain,
like the drip drip. Oh man, that was even beautiful. Yeah,
(43:13):
yep, it's no nostalgic. That'sthat's what I when I think of
Bambi all, I'm just like nostalgiaof like, oh, it's so beautiful
and so light in spring, andthen you're like ooh, and then it
gets dark. No surprise, ithappens. It's the pain starts happening around
(43:34):
winter time. What no way,we live in the Midwest. We can
say crap about winter all we want, Well you do I live That is
fair, right winter? What's thatabout to say you've lived in Midwest majority
of your life? I think youcould still consider yourself a Midwesterner even if
you live in California. A'm onthe Midwest. But yes, I live
(44:01):
in California now and no winter. So that's why I can't watch Bamby anymore.
See now, she's one of thosepeople that literally looks at us and
being like, a sucks for you, guys, I'm done here in California.
I'm warm, Yeah I do,and I love it. No regrets,
(44:22):
no regrets. This is so totallyoff up. But now I'm just
thinking to myself, do you justtext your parents and being like, oh,
how's the weather out there? Doyou have snow? Oh? That
sucks. I'm enjoying sunny time uphere and at the beach. I haven't.
I haven't actually ever bragged about myweather, but when everyone's complaining about
(44:43):
their weather, I will send apicture of myself at the beach as you
should. You shouldn't complain to me. I will make it worse. So
yeah, Bamby's a really good movie. To kind of end up. I'm
trying to give me a moment, ladies and gentlemen, because I actually do
still have the quote unquote rankings thatI have for these movies right now.
(45:07):
So yeah, so at the endof this deal, after all the five
movies that we have, I havesnow White as number one, Fantasia as
number two, bamb at number three, And honestly, it's a tough one
for me. I put Dumbo andPinocchio as a tie right now. It's
like both have their good moments butalso have their moments of like, uh
(45:30):
yeah, that color tugue just yeah, it's really hard. It was like,
okay, I think I think Dumbois gonna be lower. No,
Pinocchio is gonna be tough. Ijust have like the scales right here,
like, man, this is thisis tough. I feel like I need
to be in the right right mindsetwhen it comes to that. Nope,
we're just gonna keep it level, keep it level. I think that's the
(45:52):
fair point at this one. Sothat's nice of you. I try to
be a cool, cool, considerateman, but it doesn't work out that
way. So, all right, ladies and gentlemen, next time that you'll
be hearing from us, we willbe talking about nineteen forty three through nineteen
forty nine's wartime era, which isan interesting era to say the least.
(46:15):
You're gonna hear a lot more aboutmovies that definitely focus on the music.
But hey, to be fair, though, don't worry. Sorry, there's
gonna be plenty of movies here wherethey're gonna have more animals talking and people
talking about Yeah, I love animals. So it is gonna be one of
those things where it's gonna be likepurely like Fantasia, where it's like,
(46:36):
oh, it's gonna be a majorityof music with like little sign talk.
No, they're gonna have more peoplethat are gonna be talking these few.
I'm kind of interested in seeing howa lot of these do, because I
looked at that a couple of theseand I'm like, Okay, I've not
actually seen this one. NIE's entirety, which the first one is gonna be
a salute of migos, but threecompany years that one I've actually seen,
(46:58):
and it's interesting. Make music, make mind music, which I don't think
i've watched that one ansentirety Melody Time, Fun and Fancy Free, which honestly
I'm looking forward to that one,and then The Adventures of Ichabud and Mister
Toad, which I think I justrecently watched those two and I'm just like,
(47:20):
this is a very weird mismatch oftwo different movies and one but I've
never seen like any of them.So I have a lot to do and
apparently in the next week, well, we're not gonna be well. Ladies
and gentlemen, just bear in mind, we're not gonna do all of these
in one episode because we have thatthey wouldn't have that many episodes in here,
(47:42):
so I think to be fair,we'll do well. But we'll divide
this one up into three parts, which will be uh Saluda Migo's and three
cover of Euros, which I thinkthat actually makes the most sense. Uh.
Then we'll do uh make my Music, then we have Melody Time.
I think they have it as amake my Music, fun and Fancy Free
and then Melody Time, but Ithink we'll do make My Music and Melody
(48:06):
Time as the second one, andthen Fun and Fancy Free and the Adventures
of Ichabod and Mister Toad as thefinal episode there. So yeah, it's
uh, I think that's fair.I think it's Yeah. That sounds good.
So that will wrap it up.For another edition of the Game Changer
podcast, we are covering a lotof Disney for the foreseeable future. And
(48:30):
also I definitely want to give ashout out to a couple of friends of
mine, Uh Stephan Knows Magic, who are a couple Anthony to Stephano and
his wife who talk a lot aboutDisney. They talk about like Current day
News, they talk about magic,They talk about a lot of things that
are going on with Disney currently, and I think they even do a couple
of logs where they actually go toDisney World and Wow Plant. So it
(48:53):
is kind of one of those thingswhere I'm like, Dad, these guys
are I'm so jealous of them, but it's really funny. I'm actually going
to bring this up right now becauseI post at the time of this recording,
I actually posted the episode up becauseI've had a little bit of a
hard time trying to get this toupload onto the Facebook deal, but I
(49:15):
was able to find a way toget it up. Oh yeah, I
wondered, I didn't see it soit is up and ready to go.
I'll send you the link when theshow's over. So I got the episode
up and there are quite a fewpeople that were showing showing lots of love
to us. Anthony de Sephano hesaid to me, welcome to the Disney
(49:36):
content world. It's a fun community. Been in it for about nine months
now, which, in all honesty, comparing the wrestling community to the Disney
community, I expect Disney's a littlebit more safe haven than the wrestling world.
But to give you guys a littlebit of a deal that you're going
to see in the foreseeable future, there is a chance that if we can
(50:00):
work us out, this would bereally cool that when we get to talking
about wish that we may have aco op episode with the Stefan Know's Magic
on there. So I think thatwould be a really cool deal to actually
have our podcast kind of work togetheron this. I think it'd be really
good to have, you know, four different personalities on here. Hey,
you got two guys, two ladiesthat are involved in this. What more
(50:21):
can you really ask for? Reallywhen it comes to that, So a
little something to look forward to whenit comes to the future. Here.
But before we get to that,we still have quite a bit of movies
to talk about here, so youguys will have to wait on that just
a little bit, but it's gonnabe a fun time. We still have
quite a few good memories before wetalk about the questionable ones. I think,
(50:44):
I think for me, once weget to like the Disney DVD are
straight to movie sequels, So that'swhere it's gonna be like, Oh,
these are going to be some majorhits and misses. I can definitely tell
some of these movies that are onfor quite a while they're still gonna be
either pretty good or gonna be like, Okay, this is still passable for
some reason. But I think westill got a long waist to go before
(51:06):
we reach movies that are gonna belike, oh, I regret watching this
right right? I mean, Wishwas a weird one, So if we
all talk about that, I likeI said, that feels like a movie
that you need more than just twominds to talk about. So right,
the fact that Chris Pine was init too, I had to look that
up. He was the it wasthe bad guy who casts him as a
(51:29):
bad guy, like come on,well, apparently he was the bad guy
in Wonder Woman eighty four for allyou know, I don't know. Ah,
so we're gonna be like he wasnot the villain in Wonder Woman eighty
four. Thir I'm like, Iknow, I'm just making a joke.
It was just one of those thingswhere it was taken advantage of in that
(51:51):
it wasn't. That is true. That's true because oh geez, I'm not
going to take myself into that hole. So just Marier. That was great
though. So for that, ladiesand gentlemen, you can follow me on
the Twitter and on the Instagram atReal f N Game. Be sure to
(52:13):

some total NonStop action wrestling. Ifyou will, I'm sure you also
check out Wrestletic Radio where I getto work with a lot of great people
there and check out their podcasts sowell that are on so many different formats

chance? Yes, you can findme on Instagram at Tory Clark Underscore boss
(52:37):
Mode and that's the only place thatI ever post and it will eventually randomly
show up on Facebook but cool theconnecting world or Instagram and Facebook because why
not. Instagram will just like postit and I'm not allowed to do anything
about it. So Mark Zuckerberg, get your shit together. Oh god,
(52:58):
I should stop it. I needto off taken on Disney meta. It's
getting real, it's getting too meta. So thank you guys so much for
listening in. Be safe, bekind to each other, have a good
one. Fear me
