Speaker 1 (00:16):
Everybody. Welcome to today's show. Welcome to Equality and Writes
for a role. I'm your host, Anthony L. Rito Duke,
and we have a very interesting topic for today's show
in which it is to be talking about this current
government shutdown, and I want to clear some things up

(00:37):
about it. So let's get right into this. Okay. People
are falsely blaming the Democrats for the government shutdown. Okay,

(00:58):
And people are also falsely stipulating that Democrats just want
to give uh illegal immigrants Medicare, Medicaid and the ACA.
So let's let's let me just get right into this.

(01:23):
First of all, come November first, Okay, that's when the
open enrollment for the ACA begins. Okay, Now, just keep
that in mind. Another thing to keep in mind is
that the Republicans, the Republicans have given major, huge tax

(01:54):
breaks for the filthy rich, and the Republicans want to
make those huge tax rates for the filthy rich. The
Republicans want to make those tax tax brates permanent. Just

(02:18):
keep that in mind. With this being said, ladies and gentlemen,
with this being said, the Democrats want the Republicans to
deal with those subsidies of the ACA. Right because if

(02:48):
there is no agreement made to fix those subsidies of
the ACA, then come November first, the price for health
converage in the in the ACA will skyrocket. Okay, So

(03:10):
if the Republicans can give such huge tax breaks to
the filthy rich, and if the Republicans are also working
towards making those huge tax breaks for the filthy rich
to be permanent, then the Republicans can work with the

(03:35):
Democrats too, extending the subsidies for the ACA and making
these subsidies permanent for the ACA. Now, as far as

(03:55):
for the part of uh Democrats wanted to give illegal
immigrants Medicare, Manicaid, and ACA, that is complete. That is
completely false because of the fact, because of the fact

(04:18):
it is federally illegal. It is federally illegal for illegal
immigrants to get any of these things. Okay, now just
keep that in mind. Now, in certain states, in certain states,

(04:46):
I'm not talking to whole United States. I'm talking about
in certain states, individual, certain individual states have certain programs
that are state funded, not the United States funded. The
individual state funded programs for illegal immigrants to get basically

(05:15):
emergency medicaid, but only but only if those illegal immigrants
meet certain qualifications. Okay, And those emergency benefits are basically like,
if a woman is pregnant and on US soil and

(05:40):
ready to give birth, that's an emergency. If an illegal
immigrant is on US soil and let's say gets shot
or stammed, or gets into a severe car accident and
has to be rushed to the hospital all to have

(06:02):
let's say emergency surgery or life threatening surgery, that's an
emergency benefit type. Then another basically emergency benefit type thing
are for basically for kids, for little children to be

(06:26):
able to eat, that would be something considered an emergency
benefit type then, but again, only if the illegal immigrants qualify,
if they meet certain restrictions or if they need certain

(06:49):
qualifications for that state under that state's rules for their
for that state, the emergency municate benefit. But that's it.
But that's I keep saying, that's particular states qualification for

(07:12):
the state benefit. And how does the state pay for it,
which would be by the state's taxes, the taxes that
are collected for that particular state. It is not federally
funded at all, all right, So that's what I'm talking about,

(07:37):
That's what the Democrats are talking about. Okay, So people
are just say no, the Democrats just want to give
give to illegal immigrants all these things. Know that it's false.
That is false. Now getting back to the shutdown thing.
For so long, the Republicans have stipulated to the Democrats, Yes,

(08:01):
we will come to the table and discuss about the
subsidies for the ACA and get it fixed. Because, like
I said, come November first, when the ACA enrollment opens.
If there's no bill creative, there's no agreement made to

(08:23):
deal with the subsidies, then the prices for the healthcare
coverage under the ACA was skyrocket will skyrocket. And that
does not only affect Democratic states, that also affects Republican
states too. Okay. And here's the other thing. There are

(08:48):
no illegal immigrants in the ACA. The only people that
are in the ACA are American people. Okay. So, like
I said, that affects blue states and the red states.

(09:10):
So that's why the Democrats have said to the Republicans,
if you're not going to meet us at the table
and to deal with these subsidies, because like I said,
Republicans have said time and time again that they would
meet with the Democrats to deal with the subsidies of
these of the ACA and each time when it came

(09:32):
to be sitting at the table, the Republicans have backed out.
The Republicans have made promises time and time again to
the Democrats to deal with the subsidies of the ACA,
and it's time and time again the Republicans have backed out.
So this is why the Democrats have taken a stand,

(09:54):
okay and said you ride to a summon times that's it.
We're not taking it anymore. Hence there was no bills
created and stuff like that, which led to the government
shut down. So which leads to me, because like I said,

(10:19):
this was all about the November first deadline, right, which
leads me to disbelieve that come next week that if
a deal let's just say hypothetically, because I'm not a psychic,
I don't have witchcraft powers or anything like that, come

(10:41):
sometime perhaps maybe next week. If I'm gonna saying like
maybe maybe around Wednesday, the twenty ninth or the thirtieth,
somewhere around next week, if there's no deal made between

(11:04):
the Republicans, the Demo and the Democrats to deal with
the subsidies of the ACA, Democrats can just say, you
know what, we're very close to November first, and we'll
just reopen up the government. And in that way, the

(11:25):
subsidy problem with the ACA falls strictly on the Republicans,
plain and simple, plain and simple. Now, could I be
wrong in uh my assumption? Yeah, I mean, but uh,

(11:51):
like I said, what what makes me believe that the
government will reopen possibly sometime maybe next week? Is because
of a few things. Like I said, Number one, November
one was that deadline. Well, number that major date because
November one, uh is when the ACA enrollment opens. Number

(12:18):
two I think I think it's uh November three ish
or whatever. Actually, let me look this up. Hold on

(12:52):
one second, I'm just looking something up here. Give me
one minute. Okay, it's actually Tuesday, November fourth. Tuesday, November fourth.

(13:25):
There's a lot of elections going on throughout many parts
of the United States. So that's another thing. November one
and November fourth. So that's why I'm basically assuming that

(13:47):
the government will reopen by some time next week. Now, again,
I could be wrong. I could be wrong, but that's
my assumption on this whole than So, with that being said,

(14:13):

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
