the Utes, the Utes, the Utes are on fire. We
went to West Virginia. Mountain Mama, West Virginia, take me Home.

You know. Of course it's all cliche, and they do
play that song, by the way, it's their anthem. I
have to say, I was like shocked by my experience
in West f r Ginia in a good way. It
was an amazing trip. The team played well and I'm home,
uh and it's over. But it was good. It was
good in a lot of ways. West Virginia. The folks

there they love their mountaineers, and it was quite the experience.
We had some experience. Some interesting things happen while we
were there. Of course I will share them with you. Uh,
some of them were not about football. We have a tie,
Oh my goodness, a tie, And like I think Jerry Jones,
(01:32):
I think he plans all of this stuff. Who in
the world would ever say that the Green Bay Packers
and the Dallas Cowboys would end up in a tie?
Could you imagine the ice Bowl on the frozen tundra
of lanbow Field? And uh, and you got Tom Landry
(01:52):
and and Vince Lombardi ending up in a tie. It
ain't ever gonna like who's who's got this tie thing going?
I hate ties. I think Jerry Jones loves them. I
think he's like, what would be the most dramatic thing
that could happen if we've traded away Micah Parsons and

we play the Packers and Micah Parsons comes back into
town and we end up in a tie. That would
be that's reality TV right there. So we have a tie,
and we got some shocking things going on in the NFL.
Like there's some teams you go ooh, that's gonna hurt
for a while. Baltimore Ravens and some folks maybe coming
(02:38):
back from the dead. And of course the birth of
a new quarterback in the the Tri state area. Is
it a Tri state area? I don't know. I just
made that up. The New York Giants have their new quarterback?
How did that go? So much more? And of course
the Ryder Cup was a freaking dud and it's an
embarrassment in some very significant ways. Before we go any further, though,

I just want to send my heartfelt thoughts and prayers
and condolences to the tragic event that happened in Michigan.
Believe it or not, it's actually somewhat close to home
to me. When I lived in Detroit. That was actually
the the building that I went to church in many
(03:26):
years ago, and so I know the area. Well, it's
been a few years since I've been there, but I
know people who were there, and it's just a real
tragic thing to have happened. And we certainly send our
sincerest thoughts, condolences, prayers, all all that stuff, because it's
(03:48):
it's it's a horrible thing and and I'm just you know,
just going to church and how it operates and understanding
where people were and what was happening must have been
a really tough and horrible thing. So not a good thing. Okay, well,
well you move on with the show. Let's uh, let's
(04:10):
start here with a little recap of of Friday Saturday's
game in West Virginia. Of course, Utah taking on West Virginia,
and so there was a we had to go a
day early. So we're so we're out in West Virginia
a day early. And West Virginia is very beautiful place,
(04:32):
by the way, and we're out there and so the
radio team, myself, Bill, Riley, Stevenson, Sylvester, we're gonna go
to lunch and we're in this hotel. You're kind of
limited in your ability to maneuver, you know, you could
get an uper but there's a nice restaurant by our hotel.
So we walked. We walked to lunch, and as we're

walking to lunch, a gentleman drives up in his truck.
This is a true story. It's not joke, by the way,
that's a true story. I sound I sound like I'm
setting up a joke, but I'm not. And he goes, hey,
you guys, could you go easy on my mountaineers, And uh,
you know, we're kind of we're not very good, and

we're like, you know, we don't have any say so,
and so you know, like like what are we going
to do? Uh, because we don't play and we don't coach.
We just talk about it. So we're like sure, and
he goes, hey, I have a little present for you
if you if you wouldn't mind, And he pulls out
a mason jar and he goes, I made some moonshine
(05:39):
last night. I kid you not. And and I'm I'd
be happy to give you a bottle. It's apple Pie moonshine.
So Bill Riley accepts the gift and uh, I'm like,
I'm in West Virginia now, and and uh and I
(06:01):
was like, you can't make this stuff up, Like this
person really had moonshine. But the thing that I was
so fascinated with being there is these folks are passionate
about their team. You know, it's it's not a it's
it's what they have. You know, there's no NFL, there's
no there's no major sports. There's there's the Mountaineers. And
(06:23):
the people could not have been nicer. They were just
they were wonderful. They were genuinely like kind. Even after
the game. You had to take a media shuttle from
the stadium. It's very hilly there, and and where you
park in relation to the to the stadium is far away,
(06:46):
and it's up a hill. And so you you get
you know, and so I get in this van and
this guy spoil You guys are good. You got a
good football team, very impressive and just anyways they could
not could not have been nicer. And this is one
of those games where you're you're kind of like, who
you know this is? It's it's you love you love
(07:10):
in college football or in football, or in sports in general.
When you have the ability to bounce back. And for
me going into this game, that was that was the thing.
I was like, how is this team going to respond?
You have to go all the way across the country
to a place that's kind of trying to figure itself out.
A coach that's very familiar and has had a lot
(07:32):
of success against Kyle Whittingham. Uh and and and it
is kind of a you know, he's a crafty guy
and and he'll throw some stuff at you and he'll
hurt you, and and it's there, you know, rich Rod
is a very very very sound and very explosive, offensive
minded coach. He's a really good offensive minded coach. And
(07:56):
you don't know, you know, I mean, I mean it
looked on paper like they weren't very good and and
and ultimately they weren't very good. Like up front, they
just don't have any juice. They can't move they can't
move the line, you know. But but you just don't know.
And you have a team that's just like throw caution
(08:18):
to the wind. You know, it's late in the game
and clearly the outcome has decided, but West Virginia's like, hey,
we're still playing, like we're still trying to fight for
the future. We're trying to figure things out here. And
the guys we got in they're gonna play. And you know,
(08:38):
Utah kind of call off the dogs a little bit
and and called off the tempo and the hole. The
whole demeanor of things. You know, later in the game
kind of changed and and all that. But you did
see some kind of exciting things in there. Daniel Bray
came in, uh and and was very electric and and
you can just see you can see the speed, you
can see the athleticism, and you get to find see
(09:00):
him on the field and I asked coach Whittingham after
the game. I was like, Hey, what about this Daniel Bray,
do you see him getting more and more involved with
the offense, because he certainly showed a spark today And
he said emphatically yes. It wasn't even a question. And
I think I think this Utah football team is not
(09:22):
convinced of the talent that they have offensively still. I mean,
there's just there's just no reason why your three maybe
biggest stars on your defense or playing offense in Lander
and Smith Noden and Jackson Benny. And so when when
(09:46):
you when all of a sudden you see a guy
emerge like a Daniel Bray, you go, oh, that's what
we need to have on the field. And and Coach
Whittingham tempered that, you know, he's a young kid, very
young kids still trying to figure you're out school and
college and where he is and what he is and
what he's doing. But I would imagine that would just

send you through through the roof as a young player,
I get. I think the thing that really excited me
most about this game is that these guys are coachable,
and I think even the coach is coachable. I think
Jason Beck is coachable. I think he's the guy that goes,
(10:28):
I gotta do better. We have to do better. And
I'm open. This is kind of fun because I say,
you know, hey, I think they need to throw the
ball down the field a little bit more, throw the
ball over the middle of the field a little bit more,
take some shots, more chunk plays. And part of that
is to go, well, you got to call them. You know.
(10:50):
It's one thing to go, yeah, we should do this,
but it's another thing to actually do it. And that
was what was like really cool. I mean, the thing
that really jumped off the plate with me, and it
was it was Devin Dampier throwing the football down the
field easily was the most impressive thing to me about
(11:10):
this game on Saturday, and he threw the ball fairly accurately.
And it was also the continued evolution of Ryan Davis,
who is you know, emerging not only as like this
little control pass run, a little five yard option guy,
(11:30):
to a guy that you can see getting down the
field a bit. And the thing that really stood out
for me with him was his ability to catch the
ball and get yards after the catch, and so much
of that's on the quarterback. You know, early in the
game there were some throws that just weren't quite online.
And when Devin got that dialed in, Ryan Davis took
(11:55):
off and so that an amazingly impressive. I mean, Devon
Dampier had four touchdown passes on the day, and of
course the one to way Sean Parker and that actually
was overturned. You know, it's just one of those nice
improv impro improvisational plays. And and there there's been a
(12:18):
there's been a trend where Devin has thrown several throws
at the end zone in in very different fashions, and
that was one of them that are very kind of
out of the box, creative and very accurate. Which is
which is big. Uh, the one to Larry Simmons at Wyoming. Uh.
(12:40):
Of course, that one to way Sewan. He threw up
a really nice touchdown pass to uh Daln Bentley uh
and and and the other tight ends Buchanan and and
but but it's the ball location that is beautiful, and
(13:00):
it's and it's it's the ball location at the most
important time in the red zone, in the end zone.
And I think it's one of those things, you know,
as a former quarterback. You tear your hair out watching
these guys throw the ball so inaccurately down on the
goal line. And it's huge like that that that ball
placement in the end zone, in the red zone is critical,
(13:27):
and understanding, just the understanding of where to put the
ball and then to actually do it. You know, you
watch you have Caleb Blowner a year ago, and he
had an advantage. I mean, he was six' nine to
start with and he's going up against dbs that aren't
even six, feet so he's got nine inches on the
guy before he ever leaves the. Ground and then of
(13:49):
course he can, jump you, know really high and has a.
Wingspan don't throw the ball at his, stomach don't throw
it at his, waist don't throw it below his. Waste
throw it over his, head which is a hard thing to,
comprehend but it's throwing it over his head is actually
throwing it where his advantages and and and that was
(14:11):
really one of the more beautiful things About Devin. Dampier
uh not only not only this last, week but consistently he's.
Done he's done a nice job of. That and that's, huge,
boy because you gain a lot of confidence with your
quarterback if he's going to throw the ball accurately in
(14:34):
the end, zone because that's money. Time it is absolutely
when you need. It and the other thing that really
stood out to me with his team is the way
they played. Downhill they were they were, downhill and it's,
LIKE i just love. THIS i, go you, know this
(14:54):
team need to play. Downhill then you throw it and
they do, it AND i love. THAT i absolutely love.
That they also showed the big jumbo mumbo package on you,
know on third and fourth, down heavy heavy run, tendency
(15:15):
and they did a little pass out of it and
it was very. Effective in, fact it's kind of fun to, say,
hey you, know and they do, It LIKE i love.
This it's LIKE i JUST i feel. SMART i feel
like it's a very coachable. Team so running, downhill which
(15:35):
is what they really did a very nice job, of
was just just an excellent thing to. Do so this,
offense even though it did get some chunk, plays it
was still very. EFFICIENT i don't even think they punted
once in the. Game they had the one, interception AND
i was a little concerned about it because it's really
(15:56):
bad and of course what the conditions were raining and
that that was another THING i think, people you, know
the ball is. Moist it's moist because it's human to start.
With and to some degree that that can be, good you,
know because you get you, know a dry football is
kind of hard to hold. Onto you see quarterbacks looking their,

fingers so they get that they kind of get a
little bit of grip to. It but but it can
get too much with rain and, humidity which there was
a significant amount of rain in the, game and that
that was the big kind of concern going into the
game and can be a real. CHALLENGE i, mean if
(16:37):
if you want to know the worst thing in the,
world it's being quarterback throwing the football when it's wet
and even catching it when it's. Wet you, Know Jackson
benny actually dropped a couple of passes that would have
would have actually, bolstered you, know the the offensive. Production
and he's a guy got injured in the, game you,
know but not not. Significantly Nate richie was, injured and

that the significant injuries they've. Had of COURSE i haven't,
seen you, Know zipper never made it to the season
and he was, injured and of Course hunter andrews that
that was certainly one it. Hurt it hurts simply Because
Hunter andrews is this guy that he's needs game. Reps you,
know he's a, talent and he's just a talent that

needs game. Reps But Nate richiees is just kind of
a flukey. Play and the same thing With Rabbit. Evans you,
know they're just these fluky just your feet are in
the wrong spot kind of plays and they're just you,
know it's it's it's it's the frustrating part of of you, know,
football where it's it almost it's not. Avoidable it's just

it's just. Unfortunate it's really the way to put. It.
Uh and and that and that kind of happened in the.
Game so we'll, see you, know how this shakes out moving,
forward Because utah's Got Arizona state after a, bye And
Arizona state's got probably one of the Top i'm sure
he's the top draftable. Receiver the guy at At Ohio

state Smith is is, uh he's the best. One but
this guy's pretty. GOOD i, mean he's the top ten
potentially guy in the. Draft. Uh and then the Quarterback
levett and they got a tight endsh guy that's that's pretty.
Good as. Well, uh and they're they're good on. Defense you,
know they're Not Texas tech on, defense but they're good

and they're. Competitive you, know they they figured, out they figured,
out and they're figuring out how to win in the
in The Big. Twelve so this will be a great
matchup and it will be huge For utah moving. FORWARD
i think and and and this could be you, know
this could be a really challenging. SEASON i think everyone talks, about,

well The Big twelve is hard because the cannibalizes itself
AND i want to get into. It So i'm not
gonna get into it right, now BUT i want to
get into this. Whole you know Where utah could could
literally go Through it's the rest of its, season have
one loss and not make it to the conference championship,
game and you could Have Iowa, state you could Have

Texas tech who do and and then what and and
you literally could HAVE i, mean it's potentially could could
shake up that. Way will It? PROBABLY i don't. KNOW
i probably, not just BECAUSE i think the talent is
evenly spread across the. Conference But we're going to do
a deeper dive into, that uh in the in the

near future because it's certainly a conversation worth. Happening and
another one that's that's fascinating to me is bye. Weeks
So utah is on a bye week right, now and
and they and there their bye weeks are really nice.

Three like the team that loses this game is going
to pick first in the, draft and maybe that's what

was something that THE nfl was like super super thrilled
and excited. About here's one that AGAIN i think is
a bit of a, shocker right is The. Falcons of
course beat the they beat The Washington. Commanders Michael panics

have a nice rushing day From Bijon robinson And Drake
london has a super a nice. Day but but that's,
uh you know that looked really bad a week, ago
like like The falcons just have that whole. Thing, uh you,

know could have gone south and they're they're right in
the thick of, things and they're right in the thick
of their. Division that's the. Thing if you're a, team you,
know like The, falcons you, know you kind of have
the a F C south and THE Nfc, south and
they're they're very what what's? Up what's up with? This

AN sec, country you, know they talk about all the

best football and country and like in THE, nfl it's.
Not it's, like, yeah it's. Average The bills are for. Real,

Said Jackson dart's gonna come, in he's gonna be all

going up against a tough, defense but it's at home
and they're gonna find a way to win this game

then he's gonna get off to a two and oh,
start and everyone's gonna be in love With Jackson dark
and then it's gonna it's gonna be up and down
the rest of the. Year BUT i think it'll be

i kind of went. Down Rebel lions are for. Real
of course they beat The browns very, handily by the.

have a game where you just, stink you're just. Off

baby and so sometimes we just need that slap across

AND i believe that that moment for The lions was
the first game of the year when they went to

Lions so get it. Together, ANYWAYS i think they had

know they're five hundred right. Now and this is this
is the cool part about THE, nfl because it's brutally.
COMPETITIVE i mean you, look you look at The. Ravens

and and of, course well it's because you play all
the really good teams and and you might you might
have got lucky with the you, know and it's so

see a team one week and, go, oh they're, out they're.

here they go have a nice win against a contending
team with The. Commanders and The patriots are one of those.
Teams and they're one of those teams because of their,
Coach Mike rabol is a guy that will get it
out of those guys and he'll keep the ship. Righted

and that's that's the. Thing that's that's the one thing
you learn in THE. Nfl momentum shifts, constantly and how
do you manage that and how do you work through,
it and how do you stay focused and how do
you compete week in and week out and day in
and day. Out and it's this massive of marathonic ride

that you get on and you want to sprint and
you and, you and when you sprint and you get
all jacked up because you won one game In. September
uh and and that, one you, know over effusion you
have for that game costs you the next two because

you you just got to get right back in the
in the mode of managing momentum swings and you just
can't let it ever get out of. Control and The
ravens are a perfect example of. That right. Now they're
this team and they're just, like whoa, man this this
could get ugly in a. Hurry and if we don't

you'll see the teams go we're going to have a
player's only, meeting or we're gonna do, this or we're
gonna revamp our, offense or we're going to change, positions

that's how you get through a, season and that's how

love baseball the, most The Fall classic in of, course

The World, series such an iconic event that happens in
our country every. Year so you, know some disappointing losses by,
teams of, course The mets they lost to The marlins
and lost their last spot in the Wild card to
The Cincinnati. Reds AND i, mean it's. Crazy The mets

had the best record in baseball In june and they
kind of fizzled out towards the end of the. Season
and that's just kind of how it kind of how
it is a little. Bit and so the announcers were
all bent out of shape because The marlins were taking
photos on the field after the game and they thought

that was. Offensive i'm going to say The mets baseball
through the last part of the season was, Offensive like
what are you supposed to Do, LOOK i, KNOW i
know it stinks for your, team, right it really. Does
it stinks for your team that you. Lose but other,
teams Like, man they're just super. Excited they're not they're

not trying to be offensive to, you they're not trying
to be. Disrespectful they just they have this moment of
exuberance and excitement and they're just they're just expressing. THEMSELVES
i think if you understand when you really work hard for,

grind of all of, it and the grind starts many

is one of the it's just such a fun event
for for, golf and and they have all these different
forms mats of how these these two teams play against each,

ball or they do the singles, matches they do alternate.
Shot you, know there's there's all these different things that
they that they do to, determine you, know and it's
kind of fun and and it's and it's really It's
europe which encompasses Many it used to be Just england

compared to The United, states But europe. Does so it's
a fun. Thing and of course all the fans and

said things that just gets himself in hot. Water and
a lot of fans they love, him they hate him
kind of. Thing and these fans were ruth To rory

VIBE i. THINK i think golf fans for events like,

Opportunity it's normally the golf fans don't unless you go
to waste, management don't really cheer. Now they like it
at The waistman and the waste management is basically they're
wasted at The, waistman which is In phoenix right there
during The Super, bowl and it's AND i like it,
stadium you, know the one part three where everyone they're

screaming and yelling while you're hitting the golf. Ball so
it's a it's a challenging, thing but it's it's just
like these fans might have taken it too. Far, uh
and And rory kind of, said, LOOK i, mean shut him,
up you, know and you almost wonder if they would

have been better to, cheer and that's what he, said you,
know just cheer for your own. Team like all you're
doing is firing me. Up and you got to read the. Room,
uh just just kind of cheer for your own. Dudes,
anyways The Ryder cup is. Disappointing there's some debate over
who and how and when certain people should have. Played

we'll see Major League baseball, though it's it's, uh it's,
exciting it really. Is detroit Plays Cleveland San diegos with The,
Cubs boston And New york are you kidding? Me and
The reds And. Cincinnati that's like traditionally a really, good
good game as, well so that that should be a
lot of fun to watch. Out But Jackson dart got

his start and and he's got a. BUDDY i don't
know if you've noted, this But Cam scattaboo and Then
Jackson dart kind of you know, That, hey well two
rookies would come in here. Together, man we're going to
Change New. York AND i love. THAT i LOVE i
love the. PASSION i love that they they play the
game with a lot of heart and and people will

will respect that and people will get behind, that and
people will appreciate. That and there's a there's a really
cool moment in your. Life and if you're an athlete
who's ever you, know uh succeeded and you go to

the highest level and you and you finally get your
chance to go out on the field wherever whenever that.
Is some, guys it's, early some guys have to. Wait
but when you finally get out onto that field and
it's real and you Realize i've made. IT i am

here And i'm on this, field And i'm in this
arena and you're looking around and all the people and
they're all looking down on the field and you're looking
at your opponent and everyone all eyes or on, you
especially as a, quarterback and you either sink and shrink
from that or, go, man thank, you thank, you thank.

You could not be more excited and through and, now
just so you, know it is it is beyond beyond
anything you can describe and feel like the euphoria that
goes through your, body the the, intensity the, whole just the,
whole the wholeness of the the. Experience it's just it's just.
Insane it's it's absolutely. Insane and then that's just the

people that are there and you and you realize in
your in your head that there's millions more watching on
television and THE nfl is, popular and so For Jackson
dart to go out there and and and experience, that
why can JUST i can so relate to. That and
it's just the coolest thing in the world to experience
in your. Life to have a dream and have that

dream become, reality and to have that reality be on
such a big stage is. Unbelievable, well our show is.

You know. Of course it's all cliche, and they do
play that song, by the way, it's their anthem. I
have to say, I was like shocked by my experience
in West f r Ginia in a good way. It
was an amazing trip. The team played well and I'm home,
uh and it's over. But it was good. It was
good in a lot of ways. West Virginia. The folks

there they love their mountaineers, and it was quite the experience.
We had some experience. Some interesting things happen while we
were there. Of course I will share them with you. Uh,
some of them were not about football. We have a tie,
Oh my goodness, a tie, And like I think Jerry Jones,
(01:32):
I think he plans all of this stuff. Who in
the world would ever say that the Green Bay Packers
and the Dallas Cowboys would end up in a tie?
Could you imagine the ice Bowl on the frozen tundra
of lanbow Field? And uh, and you got Tom Landry
(01:52):
and and Vince Lombardi ending up in a tie. It
ain't ever gonna like who's who's got this tie thing going?
I hate ties. I think Jerry Jones loves them. I
think he's like, what would be the most dramatic thing
that could happen if we've traded away Micah Parsons and

we play the Packers and Micah Parsons comes back into
town and we end up in a tie. That would
be that's reality TV right there. So we have a tie,
and we got some shocking things going on in the NFL.
Like there's some teams you go ooh, that's gonna hurt
for a while. Baltimore Ravens and some folks maybe coming
(02:38):
back from the dead. And of course the birth of
a new quarterback in the the Tri state area. Is
it a Tri state area? I don't know. I just
made that up. The New York Giants have their new quarterback?
How did that go? So much more? And of course
the Ryder Cup was a freaking dud and it's an
embarrassment in some very significant ways. Before we go any further, though,

I just want to send my heartfelt thoughts and prayers
and condolences to the tragic event that happened in Michigan.
Believe it or not, it's actually somewhat close to home
to me. When I lived in Detroit. That was actually
the the building that I went to church in many
(03:26):
years ago, and so I know the area. Well, it's
been a few years since I've been there, but I
know people who were there, and it's just a real
tragic thing to have happened. And we certainly send our
sincerest thoughts, condolences, prayers, all all that stuff, because it's
(03:48):
it's it's a horrible thing and and I'm just you know,
just going to church and how it operates and understanding
where people were and what was happening must have been
a really tough and horrible thing. So not a good thing. Okay, well,
well you move on with the show. Let's uh, let's
(04:10):
start here with a little recap of of Friday Saturday's
game in West Virginia. Of course, Utah taking on West Virginia,
and so there was a we had to go a
day early. So we're so we're out in West Virginia
a day early. And West Virginia is very beautiful place,
(04:32):
by the way, and we're out there and so the
radio team, myself, Bill, Riley, Stevenson, Sylvester, we're gonna go
to lunch and we're in this hotel. You're kind of
limited in your ability to maneuver, you know, you could
get an uper but there's a nice restaurant by our hotel.
So we walked. We walked to lunch, and as we're
(04:54):
walking to lunch, a gentleman drives up in his truck.
This is a true story. It's not joke, by the way,
that's a true story. I sound I sound like I'm
setting up a joke, but I'm not. And he goes, hey,
you guys, could you go easy on my mountaineers, And uh,
you know, we're kind of we're not very good, and
(05:15):
we're like, you know, we don't have any say so,
and so you know, like like what are we going
to do? Uh, because we don't play and we don't coach.
We just talk about it. So we're like sure, and
he goes, hey, I have a little present for you
if you if you wouldn't mind, And he pulls out
a mason jar and he goes, I made some moonshine
(05:39):
last night. I kid you not. And and I'm I'd
be happy to give you a bottle. It's apple Pie moonshine.
So Bill Riley accepts the gift and uh, I'm like,
I'm in West Virginia now, and and uh and I
(06:01):
was like, you can't make this stuff up, Like this
person really had moonshine. But the thing that I was
so fascinated with being there is these folks are passionate
about their team. You know, it's it's not a it's
it's what they have. You know, there's no NFL, there's
no there's no major sports. There's there's the Mountaineers. And
(06:23):
the people could not have been nicer. They were just
they were wonderful. They were genuinely like kind. Even after
the game. You had to take a media shuttle from
the stadium. It's very hilly there, and and where you
park in relation to the to the stadium is far away,
(06:46):
and it's up a hill. And so you you get
you know, and so I get in this van and
this guy spoil You guys are good. You got a
good football team, very impressive and just anyways they could
not could not have been nicer. And this is one
of those games where you're you're kind of like, who
you know this is? It's it's you love you love
(07:10):
in college football or in football, or in sports in general.
When you have the ability to bounce back. And for
me going into this game, that was that was the thing.
I was like, how is this team going to respond?
You have to go all the way across the country
to a place that's kind of trying to figure itself out.
A coach that's very familiar and has had a lot
(07:32):
of success against Kyle Whittingham. Uh and and and it
is kind of a you know, he's a crafty guy
and and he'll throw some stuff at you and he'll
hurt you, and and it's there, you know, rich Rod
is a very very very sound and very explosive, offensive
minded coach. He's a really good offensive minded coach. And
(07:56):
you don't know, you know, I mean, I mean it
looked on paper like they weren't very good and and
and ultimately they weren't very good. Like up front, they
just don't have any juice. They can't move they can't
move the line, you know. But but you just don't know.
And you have a team that's just like throw caution
(08:18):
to the wind. You know, it's late in the game
and clearly the outcome has decided, but West Virginia's like, hey,
we're still playing, like we're still trying to fight for
the future. We're trying to figure things out here. And
the guys we got in they're gonna play. And you know,
(08:38):
Utah kind of call off the dogs a little bit
and and called off the tempo and the hole. The
whole demeanor of things. You know, later in the game
kind of changed and and all that. But you did
see some kind of exciting things in there. Daniel Bray
came in, uh and and was very electric and and
you can just see you can see the speed, you
can see the athleticism, and you get to find see
(09:00):
him on the field and I asked coach Whittingham after
the game. I was like, Hey, what about this Daniel Bray,
do you see him getting more and more involved with
the offense, because he certainly showed a spark today And
he said emphatically yes. It wasn't even a question. And
I think I think this Utah football team is not
(09:22):
convinced of the talent that they have offensively still. I mean,
there's just there's just no reason why your three maybe
biggest stars on your defense or playing offense in Lander
and Smith Noden and Jackson Benny. And so when when
(09:46):
you when all of a sudden you see a guy
emerge like a Daniel Bray, you go, oh, that's what
we need to have on the field. And and Coach
Whittingham tempered that, you know, he's a young kid, very
young kids still trying to figure you're out school and
college and where he is and what he is and
what he's doing. But I would imagine that would just
(10:07):
send you through through the roof as a young player,
I get. I think the thing that really excited me
most about this game is that these guys are coachable,
and I think even the coach is coachable. I think
Jason Beck is coachable. I think he's the guy that goes,
(10:28):
I gotta do better. We have to do better. And
I'm open. This is kind of fun because I say,
you know, hey, I think they need to throw the
ball down the field a little bit more, throw the
ball over the middle of the field a little bit more,
take some shots, more chunk plays. And part of that
is to go, well, you got to call them. You know.
(10:50):
It's one thing to go, yeah, we should do this,
but it's another thing to actually do it. And that
was what was like really cool. I mean, the thing
that really jumped off the plate with me, and it
was it was Devin Dampier throwing the football down the
field easily was the most impressive thing to me about
(11:10):
this game on Saturday, and he threw the ball fairly accurately.
And it was also the continued evolution of Ryan Davis,
who is you know, emerging not only as like this
little control pass run, a little five yard option guy,
(11:30):
to a guy that you can see getting down the
field a bit. And the thing that really stood out
for me with him was his ability to catch the
ball and get yards after the catch, and so much
of that's on the quarterback. You know, early in the
game there were some throws that just weren't quite online.
And when Devin got that dialed in, Ryan Davis took
(11:55):
off and so that an amazingly impressive. I mean, Devon
Dampier had four touchdown passes on the day, and of
course the one to way Sean Parker and that actually
was overturned. You know, it's just one of those nice
improv impro improvisational plays. And and there there's been a
(12:18):
there's been a trend where Devin has thrown several throws
at the end zone in in very different fashions, and
that was one of them that are very kind of
out of the box, creative and very accurate. Which is
which is big. Uh, the one to Larry Simmons at Wyoming. Uh.
(12:40):
Of course, that one to way Sewan. He threw up
a really nice touchdown pass to uh Daln Bentley uh
and and and the other tight ends Buchanan and and
but but it's the ball location that is beautiful, and
(13:00):
it's and it's it's the ball location at the most
important time in the red zone, in the end zone.
And I think it's one of those things, you know,
as a former quarterback. You tear your hair out watching
these guys throw the ball so inaccurately down on the
goal line. And it's huge like that that that ball
placement in the end zone, in the red zone is critical,
(13:27):
and understanding, just the understanding of where to put the
ball and then to actually do it. You know, you
watch you have Caleb Blowner a year ago, and he
had an advantage. I mean, he was six' nine to
start with and he's going up against dbs that aren't
even six, feet so he's got nine inches on the
guy before he ever leaves the. Ground and then of
(13:49):
course he can, jump you, know really high and has a.
Wingspan don't throw the ball at his, stomach don't throw
it at his, waist don't throw it below his. Waste
throw it over his, head which is a hard thing to,
comprehend but it's throwing it over his head is actually
throwing it where his advantages and and and that was
(14:11):
really one of the more beautiful things About Devin. Dampier
uh not only not only this last, week but consistently he's.
Done he's done a nice job of. That and that's, huge,
boy because you gain a lot of confidence with your
quarterback if he's going to throw the ball accurately in
(14:34):
the end, zone because that's money. Time it is absolutely
when you need. It and the other thing that really
stood out to me with his team is the way
they played. Downhill they were they were, downhill and it's,
LIKE i just love. THIS i, go you, know this
(14:54):
team need to play. Downhill then you throw it and
they do, it AND i love. THAT i absolutely love.
That they also showed the big jumbo mumbo package on you,
know on third and fourth, down heavy heavy run, tendency
(15:15):
and they did a little pass out of it and
it was very. Effective in, fact it's kind of fun to, say,
hey you, know and they do, It LIKE i love.
This it's LIKE i JUST i feel. SMART i feel
like it's a very coachable. Team so running, downhill which
(15:35):
is what they really did a very nice job, of
was just just an excellent thing to. Do so this,
offense even though it did get some chunk, plays it
was still very. EFFICIENT i don't even think they punted
once in the. Game they had the one, interception AND
i was a little concerned about it because it's really
(15:56):
bad and of course what the conditions were raining and
that that was another THING i think, people you, know
the ball is. Moist it's moist because it's human to start.
With and to some degree that that can be, good you,
know because you get you, know a dry football is
kind of hard to hold. Onto you see quarterbacks looking their,

fingers so they get that they kind of get a
little bit of grip to. It but but it can
get too much with rain and, humidity which there was
a significant amount of rain in the, game and that
that was the big kind of concern going into the
game and can be a real. CHALLENGE i, mean if
(16:37):
if you want to know the worst thing in the,
world it's being quarterback throwing the football when it's wet
and even catching it when it's. Wet you, Know Jackson
benny actually dropped a couple of passes that would have
would have actually, bolstered you, know the the offensive. Production
and he's a guy got injured in the, game you,
know but not not. Significantly Nate richie was, injured and

that the significant injuries they've. Had of COURSE i haven't,
seen you, Know zipper never made it to the season
and he was, injured and of Course hunter andrews that
that was certainly one it. Hurt it hurts simply Because
Hunter andrews is this guy that he's needs game. Reps you,
know he's a, talent and he's just a talent that

needs game. Reps But Nate richiees is just kind of
a flukey. Play and the same thing With Rabbit. Evans you,
know they're just these fluky just your feet are in
the wrong spot kind of plays and they're just you,
know it's it's it's it's the frustrating part of of you, know,
football where it's it almost it's not. Avoidable it's just

it's just. Unfortunate it's really the way to put. It.
Uh and and that and that kind of happened in the.
Game so we'll, see you, know how this shakes out moving,
forward Because utah's Got Arizona state after a, bye And

team with The. Commanders and The patriots are one of those.
Teams and they're one of those teams because of their,

you learn in THE. Nfl momentum shifts, constantly and how
do you manage that and how do you work through,
it and how do you stay focused and how do

you and, you and when you sprint and you get
all jacked up because you won one game In. September

into the playoffs and there's kind of a lot of
hope for a lot of. Folks so it should be a,
fascinating fascinating journey through The. Fall this is when we
love baseball the, most The Fall classic in of, course

The World, series such an iconic event that happens in
our country every. Year so you, know some disappointing losses by,
teams of, course The mets they lost to The marlins
and lost their last spot in the Wild card to
The Cincinnati. Reds AND i, mean it's. Crazy The mets

had the best record in baseball In june and they
kind of fizzled out towards the end of the. Season
and that's just kind of how it kind of how
it is a little. Bit and so the announcers were
all bent out of shape because The marlins were taking
photos on the field after the game and they thought

that was. Offensive i'm going to say The mets baseball
through the last part of the season was, Offensive like
what are you supposed to Do, LOOK i, KNOW i
know it stinks for your, team, right it really. Does
it stinks for your team that you. Lose but other,
teams Like, man they're just super. Excited they're not they're

not trying to be offensive to, you they're not trying
to be. Disrespectful they just they have this moment of
exuberance and excitement and they're just they're just expressing. THEMSELVES

is one of the it's just such a fun event

a lot of fans they love, him they hate him

Opportunity it's normally the golf fans don't unless you go
to waste, management don't really cheer. Now they like it

screaming and yelling while you're hitting the golf. Ball so

have been better to, cheer and that's what he, said you,
know just cheer for your own. Team like all you're
doing is firing me. Up and you got to read the. Room,

anyways The Ryder cup is. Disappointing there's some debate over
who and how and when certain people should have. Played

we'll see Major League baseball, though it's it's, uh it's,
exciting it really. Is detroit Plays Cleveland San diegos with The,
Cubs boston And New york are you kidding? Me and
The reds And. Cincinnati that's like traditionally a really, good

Jackson dart kind of you know, That, hey well two
rookies would come in here. Together, man we're going to

game with a lot of heart and and people will

will respect that and people will get behind, that and
people will appreciate. That and there's a there's a really
cool moment in your. Life and if you're an athlete

the highest level and you and you finally get your
chance to go out on the field wherever whenever that.

but when you finally get out onto that field and

arena and you're looking around and all the people and
they're all looking down on the field and you're looking
at your opponent and everyone all eyes or on, you

You could not be more excited and through and, now
just so you, know it is it is beyond beyond
anything you can describe and feel like the euphoria that
goes through your, body the the, intensity the, whole just the,

people that are there and you and you realize in
your in your head that there's millions more watching on
