season tickets away to the annoying friend or the brother
in law who's always asking you for favors.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
Go check out the game at.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
Big Willi's Craft food menu, draft beers on special cocktail
specials every single day lunchtime. By the way, you don't
have to wait till tomorrow. They've got a lunch special
every single day. Telling the OC sent you NFL season
kicked off last night, it was, uh, you know, there's
(03:20):
always this like anticipation and breath holding, and then there's
this fanfare when you kick these things off in the
no weather delay.
Speaker 4 (03:29):
Ouch.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
Not not an ideal scenario to start the NFL season.
But at the end of the day, it all worked out.
Philadelphia Eagles get the win. I think Dallas kept it
closer than a lot of people maybe anticipated that they would,
oh see a weather delay after it was very entertaining,
high scoring first half and it looked like it was
(03:52):
going to continue to be that same kind of game
after most of the third quarter, and then that the
weather delay just derailed all of that. Yeah, it takes
the wind out of the sales, so to speak. And
you know what, them's the breaks that's playing sports outside
ladies and gentlemen. Also a very weird scenario to start
the game, right, So like, not only was the weather
(04:14):
delay strange, but the opening sequence of the game was crazy.
You had an injury on the opening kickoff, which slows
some things down, and then as you're getting ready for
the restart, Dallas on offense, Philadelphia on defense, and an
exchange of words leads to an ejection and then they
(04:35):
get the zoom out, Right, they get the camera zoom out,
and it's not an exchange of words. It's Dak Prescott
jawing at the big bad defensive lineman right at Jalen Carter,
who decides that he's going to spit on Dak Prescott.
(04:56):
Not like spitting his general direction. Shout out to Monty
Python and the.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
Holy Grail, which by the way, Dak did to him.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
Yeah, Dak spit toward Jalen Carter, which is a forgivable offense,
especially in a football game. If you spit in someone's
general direction, Uh, that cannot be penalized. Then they go
kind of chess to chess, face to face, and Jalen
Carter spits on Dak Prescott while the referees are paying
close attention making sure that things don't escalate.
Speaker 5 (05:30):
Yeah, because they had nothing else to do because there
was an injury on the field, right, Just terrible timing
and terrible decision.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Now, here's the thing that when you're talking about a
player with that level of talent, you just there has
to be wiggle room. Sometimes they're wild men right there.
You get a penalty of game or two because of
players like that that otherwise wouldn't happen, But they make
up for it because they are you know, first round
(05:59):
draft pick call, pro level.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
Kind of talents. There's been guys on every team like this.
There's been guys in every era of football like this.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
There's guys on Utah's football team right now who are
probably like this. Although we didn't necessarily see that against UCLA.
You gotta stop being that guy at some point. And
if you're gonna be that guy, at least have the
penalty that your coach has to just swallow. At least
have it be after you contribute in a game, or
(06:32):
at least have it be something that makes sense, like, well,
he just goes really hard and he hit the quarterback
after the ball was out, because you know, he's a
he's a ball in a china shop. He's a freight
train that can't be stopped. You just gotta you gotta
take the good with the bad. There when you're talking
about before a snap is taken, not only in the game,
(06:53):
but in the season, you're spinning on an opposing quarterback
who's one of the more high profile stories and one
of the more high profile players in the league, and
you're doing it while the referees are paying attention because
there's a lull in every other kind of action in
the stadium that just it shows a lack of awareness
(07:13):
and maturity that it kind of supersedes, in my opinion,
that conversation about like, hey, when it's super talented players,
super important players, you just kind of deal with the
good and the bad. Like the Draymond Green effect doesn't
really explain it away.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
When you're talking about a guy who hasn't done a
thing yet.
Speaker 6 (07:38):
What why?
Speaker 2 (07:40):
What a world champion? It's just obnoxious, It really is
if you're a player on that team. And Dak Prescott,
by the way, after the game, he talked about the
fact that it changes Dallas's offensive game plan when that
guy's out.
Speaker 3 (07:58):
Obviously, he is the type.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
Of player that you have to account for in your
blocking scheme. He is the type of player that you
have to compensate for his size and his talent by
throwing an extra body his way or running a play
a different direction or whatever.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
And then before the game.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
Starts, effectively, before the offense snaps the ball, before the
defense for the Eagles actually has to try to stop
one play. You take what their second best defensive player,
their third best defensive player, and you just remove him
from the lineup, not because he's hurt, but because he's dumb.
Speaker 3 (08:35):
That is so aggravating. It really is.
Speaker 5 (08:40):
Like the other thing that's annoying about it is Dak
in the postgame trying to say I wasn't spitting at him, Like, dude,
the video shows you spitting in his direction and not
only doing that, you like give a little umph in
your face as you do it.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
You weren't you weren't just spitting on the.
Speaker 5 (08:56):
Ground, he said, I spit that high because I didn't
want to hit my offensive linemen there. Okay, yeah, that's
very convenient for you to say after someone got ejected
for doing something similar.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
You like just just say, but here's the thing.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
Here's the thing though, Like we know that Dak was
also in the wrong, but you're taught this from elementary
school on where. Don't be the second. Don't be the
retaliator who gets caught, right. I'm not absolving. I'm not
trying to let Jalen Carter off the hook.
Speaker 5 (09:26):
I just hate that Dak even like, just don't say
anything about it.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
Just say, yeah, yeah, we took advantage of that.
Speaker 4 (09:32):
That.
Speaker 5 (09:32):
Don't lie about you trying to instigate it.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
Like so, I mean, Dak is annoying and the Cowboys
are annoying, and that's that's fine.
Speaker 3 (09:40):
It's always gonna be that way. But that that was
one of.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
The strangest opening sequences in a strange opening game to
the NFL football season. It just was a hard pilled
swallow when you're like, finally, let's go, oh wait, all right,
what's happening?
Speaker 3 (10:00):
This is weird? Okay?
Speaker 2 (10:01):
And look, at the end of the day, the Eagles
are a talented enough team. They're a loaded enough, deep
enough team that you can kind of get away with
some of that, which I think is also to the
detriment of that roster where Jalen Carter, it's less likely
that he's going to you know, change his the leopard
(10:23):
that changes his spots.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
It's it's less likely because he's gonna be like, oh, yeah,
well I didn't play in it. You know we didn't.
Speaker 5 (10:31):
Is there like, is there a mature enough defensive captain
on the that's gonna be on the field with him
that whenever he takes a step towards the opposing huddle
might be like might be like, I'm gonna get between
you and that huddle from now on. Do you think
that is that something that might happen? Because that feels
(10:52):
like something Nick Sirianni and the coaching staff should probably
try to institute.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
Like I would say, Zach Bond has earned his way
into being that guy, because you know he was he
was the dude who was like almost out of the
league and ended up being an All Pro on a
Super Bowl team. Right, it was a good call.
Speaker 5 (11:11):
He's also not a small human, like obviously small compared
to Jaylen Carter, but.
Speaker 3 (11:15):
Everyone everyone's small.
Speaker 7 (11:17):
But but but.
Speaker 5 (11:20):
He's he's a He's a good size for your human
Jalen Carter's not going to like, go, who's this pint
sized defensive act trying to stand in between me and him?
Speaker 3 (11:29):
You know, like, I just but yeah, I don't know.
It's a good question.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
But it's also like, imagine, we're talking about grown men here.
We're not talking about high school kids. We're not talking
about even college players who are now kind of in
that transitional era between being a high school kid and
a professional. They're semi pros at this point, and the
elite ones are pros. Imagine you're Sirianni, you're a GM,
(11:59):
you're another You're Pond, you're whoever's asked to be that guy. Like, Hey,
we need you to enforce this because one of your teammates,
who's actually bigger, stronger, and more talented than you, is
kind of an idiot when it comes to these scenarios.
So you need to police that for us, Like it's
just dumb at this point, and.
Speaker 5 (12:19):
That they probably will say no, like, you just have
to control yourself.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
How about that. I'm all for trash talk.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
I am all for appropriate retaliation, even when you're talking
about a physical game like football. But what I am
not for is any player, no matter how talented, you
are doing something to the detriment of your team based
on nothing besides ego or nothing besides like ego's the
(12:47):
right way to put it. Just there's no other reason
that kind of spit towards you and was talking trash,
So you are actually going to spit on him. And
I wouldn't even James, I wouldn't even be mad if
he ended up spitting on if it was like after
he sacked dec you know what I mean, I wouldn't.
I would be like, oh, that's a little bit dirty.
(13:07):
But he's got that dog in it, and that's something
that happens, and look he just kind of or like,
I don't know, it just it's an insane thing that
we have to be talking about. After the first game
of the NFL football season.
Speaker 5 (13:18):
What I kept saying as I'm watching it at home
was like, get him back by hitting him really hard.
During the game man, Like if you think he said
something over the line, if you like, this is football,
you can actually physically hurt him if you want to.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
That's like just one of the most hilarious things about
contact sports. And and you know, my background in combat
sports made it even more hilarious where guys would be
like guys would be like, we're at the weigh ins
and I hate you, and somebody push you and get
in your face. It's like, dude, you are twenty four
hours away from being paid to.
Speaker 3 (13:56):
Fight that person. You don't have, Like doing it right
now is actually moronic. You can knock my head in
in twenty four hours, like you.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
See, Like just understand that in you know, twenty four
to thirty hours, that individual, it becomes your job to
actually inflict harm upon them, to hurt them, to do
all the things that you want to do right now.
Speaker 5 (14:18):
For j Carter, it's like ten in ten minutes after
this injury gets cleared.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
Up, it was gonna be like thirty five seconds, like hey,
we're going to start this game, and you're like, oh,
it just so tuughy. I don't want to blow it
out of proportion because you know he's gonna go on
to having a great season, But is there gonna be
one of these things. It's just one of these things
that's just so obnoxious. And when you when you kind
(14:43):
of like zoom out, imagine how costly something like this
could be in.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
A college football scenario.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
Imagine if you're a head coach and you've got the
the Jalen Carter equivalent on your TCU team or on
your BYU team, or heaven forbid, on your Utah football team.
You've got that guy who, like at the coin toss,
decides he's gonna spit on someone and now you're out
for the whole game. We get so bothered about the
(15:16):
ejection rule because of targeting, where guys have to miss
the first half of the second game or they get
kicked out because of the targeting in the first half
and they're gone for the rest of the game, and
you're just like that is so it diminishes the quality
of the product. It makes you question the outcome if
(15:37):
it's a close game. There's all of these things, and
that's at least a football play. It's not a football
play to be a defensive lineman chirping with a quarterback
and taking it too far. That's just a weird thing
that even in the NFL, they can't they can't find
ways to get over.
Speaker 3 (15:54):
That'll be the last.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
Thing I say about it today, probably except I did
throw a start bench cut uh at the fool proof
ways you can start a fight.
Speaker 5 (16:04):
Do we think do we think he Dak did any
of that or do we think it was just he
It seems like, based on Dak's account and what Jalen
Jalen vaguely addressed why he did it too, it seems
like it was just Dak looked at me and spit
in my direction. Like it didn't seem like he did
(16:25):
any of the three that you that you talked about
even said it didn't look like may have said anything
other than other than when Dak spit in his direction,
he said, did you just spit at me?
Speaker 3 (16:36):
So I don't know. It is very interesting.
Speaker 2 (16:39):
It's just this, I mean again, the the atmosphere. Everyone
is as amped as you can possibly be. It's the
first snap of the first game of the season. It's
going to be a raucous, incredible, amazing night, and you
are the person.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
It was just like, Oh, I was so excited to play.
I was so excited to be involved, and now I don't.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
Get to and your teammates are looking at you like really, dude,
come on, And there's a lot of people defending the
behavior of Jalen Carter, and I guess even defending like
why Dak is involved in that. Just just make a
good decision and don't hurt your team. Just don't let
those two things happen.
Speaker 3 (17:24):
And your golden.
Speaker 2 (17:26):
But it ended up being an interesting game even after
the weather delay. Another question I put out there, Another
pole question I put out there because ceedee lamb can't
find a way to catch We.
Speaker 3 (17:37):
Dropped four passes last night.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
You want to talk about frustrating things as a fan,
frustrating things as a teammate. What do we do whenever
we see a miskick? Oh, you got one job, You
got one job. You gotta make the kick a wide receiver,
you gotta you gotta catch balls and drop one per
(18:02):
month is probably acceptable. To be a guy paid like
that and be a guy thought of like that and
drop four balls in one game, in a close game, nonetheless,
is absolutely brutal.
Speaker 3 (18:15):
You just can't let that happen.
Speaker 2 (18:18):
You hate to see it, unless, of course you're me
and you're a certified Cowboys hater, in which case it's.
Speaker 5 (18:24):
Fine, But then do something like that happened this year?
Are you with me on this? I'm generally there's a
lot of Philadelphia sports haters. I'm not one of those.
I'm not necessarily a Philadelphia sports lover. I'm neutral on it,
but I and I've generally liked a lot of Eagles teams,
just you know, just from afar. But I don't know
(18:44):
something about this iteration of the Eagles, including last year.
I'm just unmoved by them, like they I not to
the point where I'm gonna root against them all the time,
but I just don't. I don't want to root for them,
even when they're playing a team with the Cowboys that
I typically root against.
Speaker 3 (18:59):
Like it's interesting, I yeah, I find myself.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
On the opposite end of that really station because I mean,
I've written.
Speaker 5 (19:07):
Covey, so I I have a rooting interest there. But
that's about it.
Speaker 2 (19:12):
I've always been incredibly apathetic about Philadelphia sports. The Philadelphia
fan bases, for the most part, aggravate me because they
are just terrible. Philadelphia is an absolute dump of a city.
Speaker 3 (19:25):
By the way. I don't like Philly, but the Eagles,
this version of the Eagles.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
I like Saquon Barkley a lot. I think he does
it the right way. I think he's an incredible talent.
Jalen Hurts is a guy who I think has handled
his path through football as graciously as anybody can. The
situation where you know you're at Alabama, you're a national
(19:55):
championship caliber quarterback, and somebody's just somebody comes in and
replaces you and then never looks back, never looks back.
That's great, Like that's that that's great to be able
to handle that with class, and he did. And then
he went of course to Oklahoma and had a great
(20:17):
year there and was a Heisman Trophy candidate, and you're
just like, man, this is this guy has had. I mean,
adversity is maybe too strong of a point because or
strong of a word, because like when you're constantly near
the top and you get recycled to another spot that
is still at the top, it's not like you're suffering necessarily.
(20:40):
But with Jalen Hurts his story, I find him compelling
because he handles it all with such class. And you
know he's a he's a big, physical, tough quarterback, which
if you're going to be a quarterback, I prefer that
version of it, the Britain Covey connection obviously. So yeah,
does that bond story that we just talked about from
(21:01):
last year, a bit of an underdog individual on a
team that ends up winning a Super Bowl. This version
of the Philadelphia Eagles, I think I find easier to
root for than past versions. But I mean, anytime it's
a team against Dallas, I'm gonna be rooting for that
other team. So twenty four to twenty Philadelphia against the
(21:23):
win in the first game of the season. Tonight, you've
got Kansas City and the LA Chargers. And of course
we pushed towards a weekend of Utah football where I mean,
you should be playing your starters for a half. You
should be looking at an absolute boat race of a
(21:48):
lopsided victory for the University of Utah.
Speaker 3 (21:51):
But there's a difference between should and there's and there's
a difference between should and did, or should and will.
Speaker 2 (21:59):
I think that this Utah team displayed for US against
UCLA that they are dialed in, that they are taking
it seriously, that the work that they put in in
the offseason is at least at first glance, likely to
pay off. And this is a group that has experienced enough,
(22:20):
has enough guys who've been there before, and probably more pointedly,
have enough guys who have been through the rough patches
of the last two years to know, like, hey, keep
the main thing, the main thing, stay focused. Is great
that people are talking about you. It's wonderful. James, did
you get that thing I sent you? That Josh Pate
(22:40):
thing I sent? Yeah, We're going to play that sound
for you at some point on the show today.
Speaker 3 (22:44):
Josh Pate. We love Josh Pate.
Speaker 2 (22:46):
I think he's one of the more passionate college football
voices in the business. He's one of the guys that
like is actually a fan of the sport more than
a fan of himself, if that makes sense. Josh Pate
was going off about where he thinks Utah should be
in the rankings, and we'll give you that. It's nice
(23:07):
for a team to get that kind of shine and
that kind of recognition after one dominant performance, but you
can't let it become a curse. You can't let it
be something that takes your focus away, or takes your
motivation away, or makes you start feeling some type of
way about how you've already earned something that you haven't
and this week is a good litmus test for that.
(23:30):
This week is a good indicator for exactly that is
this team still as focused, still as dedicated, still as
motivated as they need to be because you're just getting
this thing started and you escape the UCLA game mostly healthy,
and when it comes down to it, you're going to
(23:53):
be probably putting in a half worth of work as
a starter tomorrow. If you do your job the right way,
you should only be having to play for maybe you get,
you know, the first two series or so out of
halftime if you do your job the right way. And
that's a nice little carrot, right, That's that's fun. That's
a good thing to dangle, Like, hey, you want to
(24:14):
do a half day at work and get your full
day's pay. Every one of us would sign up for that.
But you need to see this team come out from
the get go. You cannot allow cal Poly to believe
that they belong with you. I'm talking about the opening kickoff.
Let's say you're kicking the ball away. They can't they
don't get a return, all right, If the ball comes
(24:35):
out at all, it's either through the back of the
end zone. If it comes out at all, your special teamers,
your you know, second and third string guys that are
running down on kickoff, they should be better than anyone
that cal Poly has on the roster.
Speaker 5 (24:47):
How about how about this Dylan Curtis just as an
intimidation move, actually puts it through the uprights.
Speaker 3 (24:54):
That's the right thing.
Speaker 5 (24:55):
Just let's hey, I can I can hit it from
anywhere on this fay all right, you don't someone holding
it whatever, Just just a touchback.
Speaker 3 (25:03):
I'm gonna put it through the uprights.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
That Actually, that is a that's a weird thing that
you see sometimes in high school football games where the
kicker will boot it through the uprights and you're like,
what the that kild just hit like a seventy five
yard field goal, but it's on a kickoff.
Speaker 3 (25:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (25:20):
Speaking of speaking of the Eagles, did you ever watch that?
I think it was a Disney movie with the guy
who was a garbage truck guy who could who.
Speaker 3 (25:30):
Are you talking about? Invincible?
Speaker 7 (25:32):
No?
Speaker 2 (25:32):
No, no, the story of Vince Papali No no, no,
there's a much a much less serious one. That's not
a true story.
Speaker 5 (25:39):
The guy guy's a I can't remember the name he's
It's like it's a really long name.
Speaker 3 (25:44):
Field goal kicking.
Speaker 5 (25:45):
Phenomenon is in it, and he's a He's not a
football player. He just drives a garbage truck and the
truck has this corp to it that he has to
kick the handle up for it to work, so it
strengthens his leg. He kicks it through the uprights both
couple times in that movie.
Speaker 3 (26:01):
So, James, I'm not gonna lie sometimes.
Speaker 2 (26:03):
I absolutely loathe your random asides that with their strange
pop culture and movie references. This one though, the garbage
picking field goals, that's saying Philadelphia phenomenon. That's it, starring
Tony Danza as the kicker. Yeah, presented by Disney, and
(26:24):
his name is Barney Gorman.
Speaker 5 (26:26):
That's right, Yep, that's the one. I haven't seen that
in probably more than twenty years. Oh see, but it
just popped into my head right now.
Speaker 3 (26:37):
Here's how's this for a plot summary? Since James has
completely derailed.
Speaker 2 (26:40):
Us, Barney Gorman works as a garbage man in Philadelphia,
but his career indirectly embarrasses his family. Barney's frustration is
made worse by being a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles
who are mired in a slump due to a sticky
lever on his garbage truck. Barney has, without realized it,
without realizing it, developed a very strong kick.
Speaker 3 (27:02):
Oh my gosh, Oh, how do these things get made
into real movie?
Speaker 5 (27:07):
And this is how it sort of mirrors the plot
of Happy Gilmore Too a little bit.
Speaker 2 (27:12):
Right, Oh, I hate you right now, we're at Smith's
on ninth and ninth.
Speaker 3 (27:17):
Come down.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
They've got everything you need for your tailgate party. Burgers, dogs, ribs, steaks, chicken.
If you're the person asking for chicken out of tailgates,
I got a problem with you, all right.
Speaker 3 (27:29):
I got a bone to pick with you.
Speaker 2 (27:31):
They've got ice, they've got all the beverages. They've got
the coolers if you don't already have the cooler. They
got folding tables, they got chairs, they got tablecloths. They've
got those plastic forks, knives, and spoons. Then inevitably you're
gonna push you hard on it and it's gonna snap,
but you.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
Need it anyway.
Speaker 2 (27:45):
They've got everything that you could need for your tailgate
party right here at Smith's.
Speaker 3 (27:50):
Come down and see us.
Speaker 2 (27:51):
We've got ultimate tailgate Experience passes for Utah versus cal Poly.
We've got gift cards, and we've got Bill Riley, the
voice of the Utes, joining us next review tomorrow's game.
And we still haven't gotten Bill's thoughts on the UCLA
game from last week. We'll do it all on The
Sean O'Connell Show, ESPN seven hundred and ninety two onfl.
Speaker 1 (28:34):
You're tuned to The Sean O'Connell Show from the Murdoch
Chevrolet Studio of ESPN seven hundred at ninety two to one,
a f.
Speaker 8 (28:41):
Am Sean O'Connell show, live on location that skits today
ninth to ninth.
Speaker 2 (28:54):
You need a deli tray, You need some chimps, you
need some crackers, you need some veggies, some fruit for
your tail gates. Come on down here tonight to ninth.
Go to the one in the Avenues. Go to Smith's
Marketplace downtown. They've got it all at every Smith's location.
Telemo c sencha. They'll help you out, or better yet,
come down here, grab some Smith's Ultimate Tailgate Experience passes.
(29:16):
Tanner's here on site with me and he's asking some
killer trivia questions.
Speaker 3 (29:21):
They're not that hard.
Speaker 2 (29:23):
But they're hard enough that you got to know your
utes if you want to get some tailgate passes, and
we have Smith's gift cards as well. Our next guest
is the biggest fan of Smith's. I know that because
he and I did a show together. We spend a
lot of time talking utes and other things. His name
is Bill Riley. He's the voice of the Utes. He's
my friend, and he's here with us on a Friday.
Speaker 9 (29:42):
Hey, Bill, I hate to begin the interview with a
correction of the host, but you're technically at eighth and ninth.
Speaker 3 (29:51):
Okay, you know what Bill, You are correct. It is
eight hundred, but it goes almost the whole block.
Speaker 9 (30:01):
Go to ninth and ninth and say, well, I see
the Gelato place, I see the I see the the
Chicken place where Sean.
Speaker 3 (30:11):
Hey, have a great call, Bell. It's been fun to
have you.
Speaker 4 (30:18):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
Uh, just listen for my obnoxious voice when you're at
ninth to ninth, and you'll be able to find us
at eight hundred South and nine hundred East right here
in Salt Lake City, in the heart of the ninth
and ninth neighborhood.
Speaker 3 (30:29):
All right, I'm doing great, Bill.
Speaker 2 (30:32):
Thanks Now that now that I'm accurate on my description
of the geography of this remote.
Speaker 3 (30:38):
I feel much much better.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
Let's uh, let's talk a little Utah football, but we'll
get to cal Poly I want to. I still haven't
picked your brain about the U c l A game yet,
And you know you're able because of your privileges as
the play by play man. You're able to get a
little bit more access through fall camp and see a
few more things than us schlubs in the in the
normal media, And so maybe it surprised you less, but
(31:04):
I mean I was optimistic about what this offense was
going to look like and how the play calling would go.
I don't think that even the most pie in the
sky crimson tinted glasses had most people prepared for a
near flawless offensive performance at the Rose Bowl. And that's
exactly what we got. Were you a little bit closer
to expecting that than some of us were.
Speaker 9 (31:25):
I saw what we saw all fall camp, but again
it's fall camp. You're not really even when you're hitting,
you're not really hitting. It's not full speed. It's close
to full speed. But a lot of what we saw
Saturday night at the Rose Bowl. I was able to
watch and observe it practice, and I thought, well, if
(31:47):
this translates.
Speaker 10 (31:48):
To the field, it's going to be really, really good.
Speaker 9 (31:51):
And I'm talking to Kyle last week midweek and I said,
what do you think You said, well, I'm excited, but
I don't know. I'm doing this long enough to know
what you see in practice doesn't always translate to the field.
So let's see what happens on Saturday night. Well, it happened.
Speaker 10 (32:09):
And talking to him.
Speaker 9 (32:10):
In the postgame show, we're upstairs, he's in the locker room,
but I can hear the smile on his face. He
was really pleased with what he saw. And Sean, it's
not just the production, it's the way it happened. There
was little to no pushback because Utah was pushing them.
They were clean in the opener, they didn't turn it over.
(32:31):
They executed at a high level. Now, I think some
of that has to do with the fact that Devin
Dampierre and Jason Beck and Nickery Rodgers and Ryan Davis
all play. You know, they were all on the same
page last year. But that offensive line is what we
thought it was. Well, they'd be tougher test, sure, but
they were really good. The defense. Outside of a few
(32:52):
mistackles early, they were really good too. Niko i Amaliava
is a talented quarterback and Utah neutralized. So I thought
it was going to be a good day. I didn't
know it would be that good a day on Saturday.
Speaker 3 (33:08):
There's a lot of places to go.
Speaker 2 (33:10):
Nico he I'm impressed by Nico because it was like,
there's one good player on that team, on that offense,
and it's him, and and there were plenty of situations
in the game. There's probably another five plays where he's
dead to rights, pass rush has gotten to him and
he wiggles out and extends the drive with his legs
(33:32):
or whatever.
Speaker 7 (33:33):
You know.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
John henry Day ended up with a bunch of pressures
that against another quarterback, I think our sacks. So when
you see that and you know that not every player,
not every quarterback they're going to face, including the one
this week, is not every guy's going to be a Nico.
I mean, is Sac Lake City back you think, at
least in the one game sample.
Speaker 10 (33:53):
Size, I think it's got a chance to be.
Speaker 9 (33:55):
That was the other thing I was watching really closely
on the defensive side. I wanted to see how the
foot four operated because you knew who Logan Fano was,
and you kind of knew.
Speaker 10 (34:04):
A Leiki Biamani.
Speaker 9 (34:05):
But everybody else, especially the ends or guys that hadn't
played a ton and the fact that they got pressure.
I think I saw a stat this week, maybe it
was from PFF or somebody, that Iamaliaba was pressured at
a higher rate than anybody else in college football last
weekend Utah pressured him at almost a sixty percent rate
and got four sacks. And they didn't you know, Morgan
(34:26):
didn't get exotic, he didn't bring a lot of blitzes
or anything like that.
Speaker 10 (34:28):
It was mostly four man rush that to me was big.
Speaker 2 (34:35):
You're not going to find any protests or any argument
for me. I think that you know, we talked with
Weddell yesterday about this, that you know, it is a
trump card of sorts. When you can get pressure with
four or even if you only have to simulate a pressure,
you use you know, a stunt at the line of
scrimmage instead of bringing an extra body from the defensive backfield,
(34:55):
that can really change things for your defense. And the
site pictures for opposing quarterback so optimism in the early
start there one of the main topic points if you
watch that game is that, well, there were defensive players
on the offensive side, and if you want to take
the negative viewpoint on it, it's like, well, where are
(35:15):
the offensive talents so you don't have to use Smith
Snowden and Landerbarton on offense.
Speaker 3 (35:19):
But Kyle Whittingham told us this was going to happen.
Speaker 2 (35:22):
He told us to expect it, and he did that
sort of unsolicited.
Speaker 3 (35:27):
I guess he was excited about it.
Speaker 2 (35:28):
And now I can see why smith Snowden might be
a better offensive player than his defensive player.
Speaker 9 (35:34):
I'm not going to go that far yet, because he's
a really good defensive player, but he's got real skills.
Here's how I feel about that, Sean. Your best players
are your best players. I've been sitting here all week
listening to people tell me why the Kansas City Chiefs
aren't going to defend their championship because they won so
many close games and they this and they that. Well,
(35:56):
the bottom line is they won the games. And that's
what it takes.
Speaker 4 (36:00):
What's your best.
Speaker 9 (36:00):
Eleven on the field and you get results. You put
your best talent out there, and that's what Utah is doing.
They're utilizing their best talents. Those guys aren't gonna play
like Travis Hunter one hundred and twenty four snaps a game.
They're gonna they're on pitch counts, They're gonna utilize them
as best and however.
Speaker 10 (36:16):
The opponent dictates. But you get those guys out there.
Speaker 9 (36:19):
Lander Barton could have been an offensive player, could have
been a great tight end, collegiately chose to play linebacker
while they're utilizing his skills. Smith Nottan could have been
a terrific slot receiver or tailback. Turns out he's a
terrific slot corner, but they're using his skills. I'm just
telling you right now. Jackson Benny is aud he could
play wide receiver. He only had the one catch the
(36:40):
other night, but he went deep a couple of times,
took corners with him, allowed the underneath stuff to happen.
That kid's gonna make some plays on both sides of
the ball this year. And then Kyle hints the other
day on the Coaches Show while there might be a
few other guys that might get a crack at play
in some offense this year too. So I just think
it's a good smart strategy. You don't overuse those guys.
(37:00):
They're all very valuable on the defensive side, but if
they can help you on offense, use them right.
Speaker 2 (37:08):
The more you give a defense to prepare for, the
less time they have to prepare for what's important.
Speaker 3 (37:14):
That's That's an all coaches quote.
Speaker 2 (37:16):
That I love, because if somebody knows what you're bringing, right,
if somebody knows who your best players are on both
sides of the ball, and the receiver you have to
shut down in order to slow an offense, the running
back you have to load the box against, and that's.
Speaker 3 (37:31):
All you've got.
Speaker 2 (37:32):
It's an easier defensive game plan to formulate when you
throw all of these different wrinkles including a Lander Bart
and a Jackson Vennis Smiths note and a whoever else.
Speaker 3 (37:43):
I don't know who Kyle Whittingham's referring to.
Speaker 2 (37:45):
Maybe Logan Fano gets a shot at played next to
his brother at some point, but I think the point
stands no matter what. If an offensive coordinator is like, Okay,
well they got this package, so we've got to be
ready for this. And that applies to three or four
different in groupings. That makes it harder to get ready
for the utes.
Speaker 9 (38:04):
I think you saw that when Devin Dampierre dropped back,
he had multiple options to go to the other night,
including himself. He probably could have rushed for one hundred
and forty yards the other night because but he chose
to try to push the ball downfield through the air.
There was lots of room to run. Why was there
lots of room to run because there was well, one,
the offensive line was really good, but two they had
(38:26):
to cover three and four and five different options in
the past and go down the field with it. So
at the end of the day, I just think it,
as you said, presents a lot of different options and
if not anything else, Sean, it provides defensive coordinators during
the week a lot of things they have to worry about.
Maybe you don't use those things, but because they're on tape,
(38:47):
you have to gain plan for them.
Speaker 2 (38:50):
So what's the right way to temper expectations after a
start like that, Because like I'm drinking, I'm the cool ad,
I'm mixing the kool aid. I'm I'm sitting out on
the corner and the avenue is selling the kool aid.
I'm not just drinking it, I'm trying to distribute it
to everyone and I don't know if that's the responsible
thing to do, even though it was an incredible performance.
Speaker 3 (39:09):
So help me come back down to earth.
Speaker 2 (39:11):
What are the things we still need to see this
team get better at as the season progresses.
Speaker 9 (39:16):
Well, you know, I think defensively, Kyle talked about it
being a little bit more assignment sound and tackling. I mean,
it wasn't like the Florida game a couple of years
ago when they missed twenty nine tackles. They missed eleven
or twelve. But get a little bit better at that.
The competition is going to get better. To be very fair,
Ucla is a power for team, and they've got good athletes,
but they're not a real good football team right now.
(39:36):
Cal Pauly's a one double A team Wyoming next week.
I don't know what to make of them yet. I'll
worry about that next week. But you know, the real
litmus test is going to come in two weeks on
the twentieth of September when Texas Tech rolls in. But
I don't think there's any reason because they played so clean,
Because they basically played a clean, I won't say perfect game,
(39:58):
but a pretty flawless game on both sides of the ball.
I don't think there's any reason not to be excited.
That was the first game out for Utah too. Let's
not act like Utah played three games leading into that.
That was their first game as well, with a new
offense and a new little lot of things, and they
played really clean. So I think, what what the real
expectations are? They were what I thought coming into the year.
(40:20):
Utah is a contender for the Big Twelve Conference. Utah's
on the short list of teams that can win the
league and make the College Football Playoff if they stay healthy.
Speaker 3 (40:30):
Bill Riley's our guest here on the Sean O'Connell Show.
He's the voice of the Utes.
Speaker 2 (40:34):
He'll be calling the game right here on ESPN seven
hundred and ninety TWOEFM tomorrow against cal Poly alongside Sly
and Scott Mitchell, our host of Down and Dirty. Of course,
so we got the Ring of Honor induction tomorrow. Roy
Jefferson is obviously a guy you know, playing at Utah
in the sixties. Is you got to build a larger
(40:55):
bridge to get to the modern day Utah fan and
Roy Jefferson and then of course Ron McBride. Most of
the folks that still have their season tickets. Probably at
least we're aware of what coach Mack did for this team.
And you know you and you got hear what oh one.
So there's a tiny bit of overlap, but not a ton.
(41:15):
But I know that you know you're as dialed in
as anyone else on the impact he had on this team.
So help me articulate that you know from your perspective
why Ron McBride belongs and of course why Roy Jefferson
does too.
Speaker 4 (41:29):
Well.
Speaker 9 (41:29):
I mean, nothing that Utah football has today exists without
Ron McBride.
Speaker 10 (41:36):
And I say that because.
Speaker 9 (41:38):
The program was very much down and out in nineteen
ninety when he took over. It was a middle of
the road, a best Mountain West will actually whack program.
And Matt came in in nineteen ninety changed the culture,
overhauled the culture and instilled toughness.
Speaker 10 (41:58):
The toughness that we see.
Speaker 9 (41:59):
Today was instilled then with Ron McBride, and he built
upon that. The foundation of what Utah football is that
Urban had for a couple of years, that Kyle's built upon,
was all laid by Ron McBride. He opened the Polynesian
pipeline for Utah football. He was a master recruiter. He
(42:23):
grew Look at the coaching staff today. Kyle Whittingham was
hired by Ron McBride in nineteen ninety four. Morgan Scalley
was recruited by Ron McBride. Lewis Powell was recruited by
Ron McBride. Sharif Shaw played for Ron McBride, was recruited
by Ron McBride. Luke, I mean Luther Ellis, who was
probably the player that was most singularly responsible for changing
(42:47):
the culture at Utah, was recruited out of a tiny
town in Colorado and played for Ron McBride. If all
those things don't tell you what Ron McBride means, He's
still a pillar in this community, a max, a friend,
and I've known you forever and I love him to death.
So that's that. Roy Jefferson is arguably one of the
greatest players in well not arguably, he is one of
(43:08):
the greatest players in Utah history. It was a two
way player. Was a member of that sixty four team
that went to the Liberty Bowl. Played offense and defense.
Played for ten years in the NFL. I was an
All Pro with the Pittsburgh Steelers. But yeah, he was
a big part of it. I had a chance to
sit down with Roy yesterday. Some of the interview will
be up on the jumbo tron tomorrow. He's fantastic and
(43:32):
he was part of that early, early, early day and
that great team before Utah got good in the eighties,
you go back to sixty four. So he was best
friends with my friend and the guy you knew well,
John Peas, And we talked about John yesterday. I told
him how proud John would be to see him going
into that Ring of honors. So these are two guys.
If you're young, stick around at halftime tomorrow and watch
(43:54):
the video and learn about these guys. Older fans will
know about him, but both very very deserving them going
into that Ring of honor.
Speaker 2 (44:03):
Bill, what do you need to see against cal Poly
to feel like this Utah team's on pace and where
they need to be gone.
Speaker 9 (44:09):
Just clean game, just you know, don't turn the ball
over a bunch, Just kind of do a lot of
what we saw last week, Sean, you know, and maybe
tackle a little bit better.
Speaker 4 (44:18):
You know.
Speaker 9 (44:19):
Kyle said this on the Coaching Show, and I agree,
maybe a few more. We didn't see a lot of
explosive plays. We saw Utah manhandle UCLA up and down
the field. Maybe you'd like to see a little bit
more explosion, a few more explosive plays out of the offense.
But I think more than anything else, stay healthy. You know,
you get out of the game clean, Stay healthy because
tougher games are ahead.
Speaker 2 (44:41):
When you look at the rest of the happenings in
the Big twelve, and you kind of already alluded to
this that there's you know, there's going to be a
log jam, Utah is probably among those that should be
considered contenders. Did anyone eliminate themselves from that conversation in
your mind already? And has anyone entered the chat that
maybe you didn't think we're all the week deep?
Speaker 9 (45:01):
Of course, yeah, I don't think anybody's entered the chat.
Baylor's loss was not a good look at home. That
was not a good look for them, losing by what
they lose by two touchdowns at home to Auburn. Kansas
State didn't play well in Week one, good opponent, but
they were wobbly.
Speaker 10 (45:22):
I mean they didn't.
Speaker 9 (45:22):
They didn't win that game untill they were twenty seconds
left against a one double A program in Manhattan. So
they look a little wobbly right now. Iowa State's got
a chance to make a statement tomorrowshaw On they play
Iowa in the Syhawk Bowl. They've already got a nice
win against Kansas State on the road in Ireland. If
they beat Iowa tomorrow, and again Iowa was not a Big.
Speaker 10 (45:45):
Ten contender, but that's always a good program.
Speaker 9 (45:47):
Then all of a sudden you have to sit up
and say, Okay, Iowa State has had two really good
wins in three weeks. They may be the clear front
runner right now. We'll see how that plays. Arizona State,
I think has Misssissippi State tomorrow down in.
Speaker 10 (46:03):
Hattiesburg. No, it's Starkville, Yeah, Sharkville, Starkville.
Speaker 9 (46:07):
So if they win that on the road, I think
they then validate what the preseason hype was around them.
So I don't think anybody's necessarily entered the chat. I
think Baylor and k State haven't helped their cause. Certainly
not out of it yet. Because I've said this, I
think the team that wins the Big twelve probably has
two losses. I think you've got probably a ten and
two and a ten and two, or a ten and
(46:29):
two and a nine and three playing for the championship
in Dallas.
Speaker 2 (46:33):
Yeah, I think you're more optimistic to me. I think
it's going to be a couple of nine and three
teams just because they're in the way scheduling works.
Speaker 3 (46:39):
But yeah, we'll see how it plays out. We're just
at the beginning of this journey.
Speaker 2 (46:44):
Bill Riley's going to be calling all these Utah games
for you right here on your home of the Utes.
Our conversation weekly with Phil's brought to you by Handy
and Handy. That's big firm experience with small firm attention,
handylaw Utah dot com. Bill, They've helped you, They've helped me.

Speaker 10 (47:02):
Great guys, great, great guys.
Speaker 9 (47:04):
Again, I say this by my disclaimer at the top,
I hope our friends and our listeners never have to
call Handy and Handy because that means they probably weren't
in a car accident or hurt on the job. But
if you are, you want somebody that can represent you
and represent you well. And that's what Preston and Garrett
can do. Over forty years of experience and personal injury
attorneys and a sean said Handy Law Utah, Big Utah

fans and great friends of ours at ESPN seven hundred,
So give them a call Handy law.
Speaker 3 (47:32):

Speaker 10 (47:35):
Thanks Sean, talking.
Speaker 2 (47:36):
Soon the voice of the Utes, Bill Riley. That conversation
brought to you by our friends at Handy and Handy.
If you just have legal questions, obviously I echo what
Bill said. We don't want any of our listeners to
have to go through the hurt on the job, or
you got in a car accident and there's a liability
question whatever, personal injury attorneys. That's the specialty at Handy
(47:59):
and Handy. But if you have a legal question, reach
out Handylaw Utah. Tell them that you're listeners to the
show that you love ESPN seven hundred, that you're just
looking for a little bit of advice.
Speaker 3 (48:09):
And they really do take care of our people.
Speaker 2 (48:11):
All right, Lots left to get to you here on

Speaker 2 (48:22):
We're at Smith's in the ninth and ninth neighborhood. As
Bill said, it's technically eight hundred South and nine hundred East,
but it.
Speaker 3 (48:28):
Takes up the whole block. Come on, come see us.
Speaker 2 (48:31):
Grab a tailgate pass to Utah versus cal Poly the
Smiths Tailgate Party. They've got plenty of food options and
of course if you want to throw your own tailgate party,
this is the place where you can get all of
your supplies. You're listening to the Sean O'Connell Show on
ESPN seven hundred and ninety two one FM.
Speaker 1 (49:03):
You were listening to the Sean O'Connell Show from the
Murdoch Hyundai Studio of ESPN seven hundred and ninety two
to one a f M.
Speaker 3 (49:11):
You got me Thursday.
Speaker 2 (49:15):
It is that time with you again, folks. The Greek
Festival is back in Salt Lake City. Holy Trinity Greek
Orthodox Cathedral is hosting starting today going through the weekend,
Greek food, entertainment, so much more.
Speaker 3 (49:29):

Speaker 2 (49:30):
Tickets are available at Salt Lake Citygreek Festival dot com.
Spence Checkets is actually gonna be there live today from
two to six and he'll have a family four pack
of tickets. Well, we'll have a family four pack of
tickets to give away during topical trivia. We also have
We had Tannerson in here at Smiths with me and
he's got a full slate of trivia questions that he
(49:51):
came up with himself as a diehard Utah fan. He
wrote them down by hand, and it's like it's a special,
it's it's a fact at Utah Jeopardy. Okay, you're going
to have to answer one of those questions to get
yourself some Ultimate Tailgate Experience pass or some Smith's gift
cards or both. Tanner's feeling pretty generous on the hard questions.
Speaker 3 (50:13):
So swing by.
Speaker 2 (50:15):
We're at ninth to ninth at the Smiths and yeah,
even the old school smith sign on the road that's
been up for who knows how long right there on
top home of the Utes, and we're the Home of
the Utes right here on ESPN seven hundred and ninety
two on FM. We just spoke with Bill Riley, and
(50:35):
you know, the question about whether or not this Utah
football team gave us a good picture of what they're
going to be in every single game, You think yes,
because blocking and tackling travel, because offensive line play is
something that you know kind of sets a tone for
a whole season. But the head coach himself has told
(50:58):
us year after year after year, time after time, don't
judge a team after a game, good or bad.
Speaker 3 (51:05):
Don't judge a team after one game.
Speaker 2 (51:07):
So we think we're getting a picture of what UTA is,
and we think we're getting a picture what BYU is,
and we think we're getting a picture what the rest of.
Speaker 3 (51:15):
This Big twelve conference is, and we're probably right.
Speaker 2 (51:19):
But a game like this one against cal Poly can
only answer so many questions for you, And coming off
a dominant performance against UCLA, the question that I'm asking
is are you ready to.
Speaker 3 (51:33):
Go out there and be big brother again?
Speaker 2 (51:36):
It's not as compelling, it's not as natural of a
thing as a competitor, as an athlete. When you don't
feel like you have to give your best, to give
your best, it's just human nature, right. We always take
the path of least resistance, and if we feel like
cal Poly, oh, look, this defensive end is two hundred
(51:57):
and ten pounds instead of two hundred and fifty pounds.
Look their offensive lineman, they're only two seventy five to
two eighty instead of three point thirty. Like this is
not gonna be as hard of a game for us.
The natural brain is like, Okay, you can go seventy
five and you can you can coast through this one.
The question I have is does this Utah football team
(52:20):
keep their foot on the gas no matter what is
standing in front of them. I'm talking UCLA, I'm talking
cal Paly, I'm talking next week against Wyoming, I'm talking
every single game this year. It's easy to get up
for that home contest against the ranked Texas Tech team.
It's gonna be easy to get up for your rivalry
(52:40):
in the Holy War against BYU.
Speaker 3 (52:43):
The question I have for tomorrow is not who's more talented?
Speaker 2 (52:46):
Obviously that's Utah. Who's bigger, stronger, faster, That's Utah. And
I'm not even gonna ask the question can you stay
healthy all game? Because that's beyond our control. That's beyond
the control of the players themselves. The coaches have some
influence on by subbing people out once you build a lead,
But the real question is are you a hammer even
(53:10):
when the nail goes in on the first strike. Are
you gonna keep pounding away? Are you gonna put seventy
five points up on the board?
Speaker 3 (53:17):
Tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (53:19):
Are your second and third string guys on the same
level of intensity, of focus, of competitiveness as your starters,
who I think will be pulled out right around halftime?
These are important questions that can be answered against cal Poly.
Most important questions you can't answer against an FCS team.
(53:40):
You can't answer against the tenth, eleventh, twelfth best team
in the Big Sky Conference. That's a question you can answer.
Does my team mentality translate to championship level football, regardless
of who's standing in front of us, regardless of the
situation with injury, regardles of the situation with competition. Meaning
(54:03):
if Texas Tech Baron Morton at Texas Tech, he's already
a little bit banged up, right, he is gonna play
this week? It looks like if that becomes a chronic problem,
are you taking your foot off the gas pedal a
little too much when you do face Texas Tech because
you don't think they're as dangerous if maybe they don't
have one hundred percent healthy Baron Morton. You have to
(54:25):
be immune to some of that natural man. If you're
a college football player, and more important, if you're a
college football team with a college football culture, that has.
Speaker 3 (54:35):
Given you championships in the past. This is where Kyle Whittingham.
Speaker 2 (54:40):
And Morgan Scalley and Sharif Shaw and Luther Ellis and
Lewis Powell and Colton Swan and Coach Simon and coach
at Tawaya, and of course Jason Beck, this is where
they are important. This is where they are more important
even than usual, because you can probably let up in
this game and still win by three scores, but it
(55:03):
sets a tone you don't want to have set. It
lures you into a mindset that you don't even want
to exist in your locker room.
Speaker 3 (55:15):
That's what I'm looking for against cal Poly.
Speaker 2 (55:18):
Does this team look like a championship team even when
they're playing against a squad that probably doesn't have much
for them. And that's no disrespect to the Big Sky.
There's no disrespect to cal Poly, to their coaches, to
their players. The economics of college football right now are
set up in such a way that nobody really wants
(55:40):
cal Poly to be able to compete with the youths,
Like the powers that be don't want this to be
a game, they want it to be. Cal Poly comes
and cashes a check and Utah gets an easy win?
Is it easy or do you make it look hard?
That's something to watch for. All right, We're going to
(56:01):
do our best to put a little perspective on the
Ring of Honor inductees. I asked Bill Riley about this.
With Roy Jefferson and with Ron McBride going into the
Ring of Honor, they check the boxes, they meet the criteria, obviously,
but I want to do what little I can to
add to the story on both of these men, who
(56:25):
very deservingly are going to have their names hung on
the side of that building at Rice Cycle Stadium in
perpetuity forever. It's a Sean O'Connell show on UTILHS number
one Sports Talk ESPN seven hundred ninety two.
Speaker 3 (56:38):
One ff.
Speaker 6 (56:44):
These dogs, Sean O'Connell show, you were home of the
best inside of your hus Let's get back to WOC
from the Murdon Chevrolet Studio of ESPN seven hundred and
ninety two to one.
Speaker 1 (56:55):
A f M.
Speaker 9 (56:59):
The off bench under stock, third down, making down, fourth down,
a gold about the two What do.
Speaker 4 (57:05):
You run here?
Speaker 3 (57:06):
Well, I didn't really like I'll tell you what I run.
Speaker 7 (57:08):
I'd run.
Speaker 4 (57:09):
I'd run like quarterback counter.
Speaker 3 (57:11):
Where you just you just let everyone lead, run counter
and run the quarterback right up the Dampier to pass.
Speaker 9 (57:17):
He is running counter, follows his blockers into the end zone,
and that's a touchdown. Devin damp Pier from two yards out,
followed his blockers off the right side and into the
end zone. He goes for a Utah touchdown, his first
rushing touchdown.
Speaker 7 (57:31):
Has a ute.
Speaker 2 (57:35):
How about Scott Mitchell call him the shot there, Devin
dan Pierre touchdown Ron That was a fourth down conversion
forty three to ten win over UCLA in your season
opener Utah Sports Radio Network. Bill Riley on the call
with the aforementioned Scott Mitchell. Who that's a little Tony
romo from Scott, you know, a little uh, little little prediction,
(58:00):
little clairvoyance on what the call should be.
Speaker 5 (58:04):
I like that showing off a little bit, Scott. Or
or has Tony Romo been doing Scott Mitchell this whole time?
Like that's amazing?
Speaker 3 (58:12):
You're right?
Speaker 2 (58:12):
It could be big twelve at noon. Our conversation is
brought to you by mountain Land Supply. Is it Mountainland
Supply dot com? Look, Tomorrow is a special day for Utah,
not because of the opponent, coming in cal Poly is
going to most likely roll over and die about halfway
through the second quarter. It's special because Ron McBride and
(58:36):
Roy Jefferson are being inducted into the Ring of Honor,
which of course is brand new.
Speaker 3 (58:41):
There'll be the second and third.
Speaker 2 (58:42):
Names going in to the Ring of Honor after Alex
Smith was the inaugural inductee last year. And you know,
we talked a lot when it was announced that this
thing was going to happen about the likely candidates, about
who who could even be inducted on the criteria, because
(59:02):
it felt like the Ring of Honor criteria kind of
was geared around making sure that the right people got in,
if that makes sense. And I know that that's the
case for most Halls of Fame or whatever, but these.
Speaker 3 (59:17):
Are pretty specific.
Speaker 2 (59:19):
You had to be part of two conference championships, if
you were a player who had success, you had to
have not only success in college, but if you weren't
an All American in college, you had to have an
NFL career that you could lean on, and things like that.
And I think that, you know, one of the first
names that came to mind for me is like, well, wait,
(59:40):
does he meet these criteria was Ron McBride coach mac
and Bill did a good job of talking about it
when I asked him, I don't know thirty minutes ago.
Everything that Utah has is the way he said, it
doesn't exist if Ron McBride never comes to the University
of if there's no Ron McBride era from nineteen ninety
(01:00:03):
to two thousand and two, then you don't get the
Urban Meyer higher most likely, or even if you do
hire urban Meyer, he's not coaching a team. Remember this
is pre transfer portal era. Urban Meyer came to the
University of Utah because he knew that it was a
talented roster. He knew it was a step up from
(01:00:25):
Bowling Green. It was the perfect confluence of factors for him.
If urban had to recruit an entire roster of players
before he was able to put together top quality seasons,
if he had to go out there and get you
the Brian Johnson's of the world and fill it entire
(01:00:49):
roster with them, he would have had to stay four
or five years. He was able to turn around the
program and to get a ten win season and an
under defeated season in back to back years, and then
he was off to bigger and better things in national
championships at Florida and Ohio State.
Speaker 3 (01:01:07):
And things like that.
Speaker 2 (01:01:08):
And even that doesn't that doesn't happen if Ron with
pride hadn't already been in place as a phenomenal recruiter
for a decade plus. If you go back to the
Utah two thousand and four season, the Fiesta Bowl roster,
there's actually not that many guys on that team that
(01:01:32):
were recruited by Urban Meyer. Now, the Sugar Bowl team
is a different story, and Urban deserves a lot of
credit for that, and I believe that Urban's name is
probably gonna end up being hung at some point, or
we'll at.
Speaker 3 (01:01:47):
Least have to have a serious debate about that. But
the Utah roster was made up.
Speaker 2 (01:01:54):
It was a healthy, veteran team that was made up
mostly of guys that Ron McBride had recruited and started
to develop. And he was only able to recruit that
caliber of player and start to develop that caliber of
player because of what he had already done in the program,
because of what he had done in the early nineties
(01:02:17):
and how he had started to make Utah a factor
again even in the home state.
Speaker 3 (01:02:23):
I looked it up last night, James.
Speaker 2 (01:02:25):
You know how many that the before Ron McBride showed up,
the twenty years before Ron McBride showed up. Do you
know how many times Utah had beat BYU in those
twenty years before Ron McBride came.
Speaker 5 (01:02:36):
I'm gonna say something. It's gonna be something real low,
like three or four times.
Speaker 3 (01:02:41):
It's four. It was four times. Yeah, and they had it.
Speaker 5 (01:02:45):
We talked about Utah's recent dominance in the in the
twenty tens, nine straight wins for Utah.
Speaker 3 (01:02:53):
They were on the other end of that during that stretch.
Speaker 2 (01:02:58):
And it took some time for coach Mack to turn
it around. You know, he arrived in nineteen ninety and
then they were able to beat BYU. I think in
ninety three was the first time they were able to
beat BYU under him. But then they won three in
a row and it became a rivalry again, and it
became a story to talent. It became once again the
biggest day in the Utah sports calendar because it was
(01:03:22):
competitive and guys who previously were the in state stars
that it had been a no brainer for so long
to be like, yeah, well I'm going to BYU BIU
is the better team in state. They started to look
and started to say, maybe Utah is a better fit
for me. And he he laid this foundation for greatness
at the University of Utah that, of course, as many
(01:03:44):
people have stated in many different ways, was built upon
by Urban and Urban even more than Kyle. He built
like literally with the same material that Ron McBride had.
It's like if you were building a house, okay, and
someone had dug the founder, they had poured the foundation,
and they had also already brought in all of the
(01:04:05):
wood for framing, and they had already manufactured the windows,
and then you just assembled the house like a Lego set.
That's that's what Urban Meyer did. And I don't want
to take any credit away from coach Meyer because he
was phenomenal. He got more out of those teams than
McBride did, and maybe than McBride would have, So I
don't want to take anything away from him. But it
(01:04:25):
doesn't happen the way it happened if Sione Puaz not
on that roster. And Bill also went through the guys
that are on the Utah football coaching staff right now.
They all either played for or were hired by Ron McBride,
with the exception of the new offensive guys, and Jim
(01:04:47):
Harding scratched that Colton Swan didn't play for Ron McBride.
But more than half of your coaching staff at the
University of Utah aid for Ron McBride or were hired
by Ron McBride, your head coach for the last twenty
one years. Kyle Whittingham was given his start at the
(01:05:08):
University of Utah by Ron McBride. So there's a talent
recognition thing with Coach mac, not only on the player
side of things, but the character side of things.
Speaker 3 (01:05:22):
It's not a coincidence. It's not some fluke.
Speaker 2 (01:05:24):
Happenstance that Lewis Powell and Sharif Shaw and Morgan Scally
and Luther Ellis grew from being good players in the
Ron McBride ere to phenomenal coaches.
Speaker 4 (01:05:36):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:05:36):
He recognized those traits in them and had them come
play for him, and then of course they ended up
developing into great coaches as well. Those leadership traits, though,
were reasons part of the reason why Ron McBride put
those guys on his rosters to play football for him.
(01:05:57):
I'm overjoyed that we get to see coach Mac inducted
into the Ring of Honor and that he gets to
see his own name up there. He's not the type
of guy that's like, you know, I need this for myself.
He's a very self actualized, I think, satisfied with his
life individual. He's done great things in many different places.
(01:06:18):
His foundation still does a lot of great work, raising
money for schools, raising money for church programs, and that's
going to continue throughout the rest of his life and beyond.
But I'm of the firm opinion that we should tell
people that we appreciate them while they're still around to.
Speaker 3 (01:06:37):
Hear that we appreciate them.
Speaker 2 (01:06:39):
And so I'm glad that the university's doing it right now.
And the same is true of Roy Jefferson, and I,
like many of you, had a reduced awareness when you
compare it to coach McBride, who, like you know, I
went to Ron McBride football camps. I went and I
played for coach Mac up at Weaver State. And I've
told this story on the on the show before, but
the only reason that my football career was for me
(01:07:02):
and only for me was resurrected, and it only means
something to me nobody else cares about my college football career.
I realized I was not great at either Utah or
at Weaver State. I'm totally fine with that. But I
was allowed to have a meaningful college football experience by
Ron McBride because of the person Ron McBride is. And
(01:07:24):
as I've told this story before, that doesn't happen if
coach back is not the kind of coach who goes
to his former player's weddings twenty years after those players
play for him. That's why I was able to connect
with Ron McBride and to say, hey man, it's not
really working out at Utah for me. And that's why
(01:07:46):
in a backyard and holiday at a wedding reception, he
was able to say, hey, well, why don't you come
up to Weaver State. Then the only reason that accidental
meeting happens is because Ron McBride is the guy who
cares about his players twenty years after the fact. Shout
(01:08:06):
out to Keith Williams, whose wedding that was former Utah
running back and a guy who's if you hear him
tell it who Ron mick Pride effectively saved his life
by getting him out of the hood there's plenty of
stories like that. Oh, by the way, coach Mack also
won conference championship at Weaber State.
Speaker 3 (01:08:27):
Do we need to go through what Weaber State was
in the.
Speaker 2 (01:08:29):
Big Sky Conference, going up against constantly powerhouses like Montana
State Montana, those two programs ran the Big Sky and
in a lot of ways ran Division one Double A
football for the longest. And coach McBride built a foundation
(01:08:49):
mostly with local players at Weaver State, and that foundation
was laid and then he retired and guests who took
things over and took it to the next level.
Speaker 4 (01:08:59):
Jay Hill.
Speaker 2 (01:09:01):
It's a familiar story at two different in state schools
where Mac was the progenitor of the success and then
somebody else ended up realizing the ultimate fruition of that.
And in the case of Weaber State, it was Jay Hill.
And obviously Jay's doing a great job at.
Speaker 3 (01:09:21):
B YU now. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:09:22):
And the other thing that's that I had come to
learn and from Jay Hill's era and the extension of
Ron McBride's era there is it became because of him.
It kind of became a breeding ground for future high
(01:09:43):
level Division one coaches too, like you. When Utah in particular,
when the University of Utah was like, we we like
this former, we like this uh, this alum of our
program as a coach, but we don't have room for
him on our staff. They would inevitably get a job
with Jay Hill and probably Ron McBride before that at
(01:10:04):
Weaber State, and you know they sometimes they don't end
up back or they don't end up at the University
of Utah like we saw with Jay Hilly after he
spent a long time as a position coach there, but
that you saw them be able to transition from that
from that to great jobs at Utah or otherwise in
the at the FBS level. So that that's another great
(01:10:27):
part of his legacy that Jay Hill kind of perpetuated
at Weaver State.
Speaker 3 (01:10:35):
It's a great point.
Speaker 2 (01:10:37):
J Hill was another one of those guys that Coach
Mack helped to kind of. Oh so was Besei, Satake
Colton Swan who didn't play for coach was an assistant
coach for Ron McBride at Weaver State when I was
up there. Like so there's just the connections run deep.
And Coach Mack is absolutely the man and he's a
(01:10:58):
better human than he is a college football coach and
I'm just I'm excited to see him. I'm excited to
be one of the probably three hundred guys they're going
to be there to watch this happen for him tomorrow
and everyone has, you know, a deep connection and a
reason to thank Ron McBride. Now, Roy Jefferson, I want
to do justice to Roy Jefferson because he was an
(01:11:21):
absolute baller and Roy Jefferson was well, just here's his
career highlights and awards. Okay, super Bowl champion all the
way back in Super Bowl five as a member of
which team, James.
Speaker 3 (01:11:35):
Who won Super Bowl five? Is that the Colts?
Speaker 2 (01:11:38):
Yes, his lone season with the Baltimore Colts, he won
a Super Bowl, played one season, won a Super Bowl
playing with Johnny United's.
Speaker 3 (01:11:46):
Okay, he was first Team All that sixty.
Speaker 5 (01:11:50):
Times wearing my Colts Peyton Manning jersey. Right now, So
for Roy Jefferson, of course, nineteen.
Speaker 2 (01:11:55):
Sixty nine, first team All Pro, sixty eight and seventy
one second team All Pro. He in nineteen sixty eight,
he led the NFL in receiving yards. He was named
to the Pittsburgh Steelers Legends Team of the seventies, the
eighty Greatest Redskins. He was named to that because he
played That's where he finished his career with the Washington
(01:12:16):
Redskins in nineteen sixty four at the University of Utah,
who was a first team All American. By the way,
that was on the defensive side of the football, if
I'm not mistaken. So this is a dude who was
an elite wide receiver and ended up playing what a
decade of pro football as a wide receiver. And he
played defense also at the University of Utah and was
(01:12:39):
highly decorated there. He was an All Whack performer three times.
And of course he helped take a Utah football team
who similar to the Restoration of Glory and the Ron
McBride era that Roy Jefferson John PE's team, those guys
(01:13:03):
under Ray Nagel, those guys brought Utah football back from
a really, really dark period. Nago won Coach of the
Year in the Whack I think yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:13:15):
Roy Jefferson was.
Speaker 2 (01:13:17):
Second in the voting for the Whack Player of the
Year in nineteen sixty four. And they they just they
just both of these guys being inducted tomorrow kind of
brought Utah football back in their own way.
Speaker 3 (01:13:31):
Brought Utah football.
Speaker 2 (01:13:32):
Back from the darkness, so to speak. Roy Jefferson played
offense and defense, and he was the placekicker when Utah
beat West Virginia in the Liberty Bowl and finished nine
to two.
Speaker 3 (01:13:51):
They were.
Speaker 2 (01:13:53):
The team from the West that nobody really paid much
attention to and hadn't had a lot of success in
the years prior to that. And back then there were
like six bowl games, like every bowl game mattered a lot.
Speaker 3 (01:14:06):
It was the first. It was the first college football game,
by the way, played indoors. Did you know that did
not know that? Where was it played? This is the
wildest thing.
Speaker 2 (01:14:17):
And I only learned this when I was doing my
research on Roy Jefferson and the reasons why we should
be celebrating him going into the Ring of Honor at
the University of Utah. The game was played indoors at
the Convention Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Speaker 3 (01:14:33):
Oh my gosh, James, we just had fights there the
Boardwalk Hall.
Speaker 5 (01:14:38):
I was gonna say, if that sounds familiar, because you
were just talking about being there.
Speaker 2 (01:14:42):
It's this massive, massive building that they've done like prize
fights in and all that stuff. And back in nineteen
sixty four, when it was still pretty new. It's got
one of the largest pipe organs in the world. It's
like all this beautiful ornate ceiling and it's kind of
this like elongated sort of.
Speaker 3 (01:15:01):
Oval shaped like roof.
Speaker 2 (01:15:03):
It's just a crazy place and all of it with
this filigree everywhere, and this pipe organ that has a
little Wizard of Oz booth where the organ player the
organist sits.
Speaker 3 (01:15:15):
It's crazy. And that's where they played the nineteen sixty
four Liberty bo.
Speaker 5 (01:15:20):
Can you picture a football game, now that you've been
there a few times calling fights, can you picture a
football game in there?
Speaker 2 (01:15:26):
Well, only because I actually saw the pictures, the old
black and white pictures of the game being played, and
I saw those exact same you know, decorative carvings and
things like that. I'm like, man, because when we set
up our cage in there, you wouldn't think you wouldn't
think like, oh, this is this is big enough also
for a one hundred yard football field to.
Speaker 3 (01:15:43):
Be laid on.
Speaker 2 (01:15:43):
But they did it, and they did it with natural
grass wow as well. So they went in there, they laid.
Speaker 3 (01:15:49):
Down some sod. They've let these guys play on the sod.
If I get a.
Speaker 2 (01:15:53):
Chance to talk to Roy Jefferson tomorrow, I'm gonna ask
him if he remembers what that playing surface was like,
because I got to imagine it was absolutely terrible.
Speaker 3 (01:16:03):
Yeah, there's just no way that could have been that
could have been like a good surface to play on.
Speaker 5 (01:16:09):
That is That's an incredible story that for that I
would have guessed because Liberty Bulls is that where is
that played?
Speaker 7 (01:16:18):
Now?
Speaker 3 (01:16:18):
Is that Tennessee or Shreveport? Now that's in emph Memphis.
Speaker 2 (01:16:22):
So I would have guessed it would have been you said,
first indoor game, like was the was the Superdome or
one of those domes in the South built by that
by that time. That's what I would have guessed you
were you were gonna say, but no Atlantic City in
Boardwalk called that's a that's an incredible story.
Speaker 3 (01:16:42):
Yeah, just just amazing. And he was like the stats
back in those days.
Speaker 2 (01:16:47):
By the way, so in nineteen sixty three he led
the whack in in past receptions? How many do you
think he had in nineteen sixty three, like fifteen, twenty.
Speaker 3 (01:16:58):
Nine, twenty nine?
Speaker 2 (01:16:59):
All right, I I a short him half my bad
twenty nine catches for how how familiar with your game, sir,
my bad.
Speaker 5 (01:17:05):
For how many receiving yards do you think twenty nine
catches for two hundred yards four hundred and thirty five yards.
I'd like shorten him about half each time to lead
the conference.
Speaker 2 (01:17:17):
Man receiving touchdowns, he had four, like the man was
leading the conference just because it was a different time
in football, you know he.
Speaker 5 (01:17:29):
I mean, his total yardage and receptions are way higher,
but he but with the touchdowns he was. He was
caable owner last year. Just not like crazy impressive, but
that led the conference. Yeah, not for crazy impressive in
today's terms.
Speaker 2 (01:17:47):
I should say his senior season that this was before
they tracked sacks. I actually found an interview where he
said that his senior year he had ten sacks to
go along with his three interceptions. Uh, he kicked seventeen
extra points and two field goals. Let's go while playing
both ways. So twenty one catches, three interceptions, seventeen extra points,
(01:18:07):
two field goals, and according to him before it was
an official stat, ten sacks as well, and he was
an All American that year.
Speaker 3 (01:18:16):
Man.
Speaker 5 (01:18:16):
Take that, Travis Hunter, I bet you couldn't kick seventeen
extra points in two field goals and then.
Speaker 3 (01:18:22):
You want to know the wildest thing about it, James.
Speaker 2 (01:18:25):
At the end of this senior year, he received something
called the Amazich Award, which was awarded at that time
for outstanding Lineman because he would line up as a
defensive end on passing downs because if that's like, they
didn't really split the wide receivers out in those days,
so he would be a defensive end who then would
(01:18:46):
follow the running back or follow the tight end, or
follow the wide receiver. That was like effectively lined up
where tight ends are lined up, and so he.
Speaker 3 (01:18:54):
Was considered a defensive end. He was considered a lineman
in those days.
Speaker 5 (01:18:59):
Also probably much more obvious that it was going to
be a past it was going to be a pass
back then than it is today.
Speaker 3 (01:19:06):
Yeah, I mean.
Speaker 2 (01:19:08):
And then he was drafted eighteenth overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
That was a second round draft pick back in those days,
in nineteen sixty five. He went on to an incredibly
successful career. And I think this is something that you know,
like again, I would love to talk to him about.
He was at Utah. He had moved from Compton, California
(01:19:29):
to Salt Lake City, Utah. James in the like the
height of the civil rights movement. Yeah, he had gone
from Compton, California to the most whitewashed city in America,
effectively in the height of that movement.
Speaker 3 (01:19:43):
And he was he was an activist.
Speaker 2 (01:19:46):
He led and did speeches and led protests in favor
of civil rights obviously. So I mean, what an interesting
career and of course an interesting life juxtaposed with a
wild story. So Roy Jefferson is a Utah football legend
(01:20:07):
that we probably don't give enough justice because it happened
in the nineteen sixties when most of us were not
really aware of football or you know, we're twenty years
away from being born. Yeah, I mean, it's one thing
to say, well I wasn't I was. I for me,
I was about thirty years away from being born at
(01:20:28):
that time.
Speaker 3 (01:20:29):
That's why. I don't know.
Speaker 5 (01:20:30):
But like we know about Alabama football a little bit
in the sixties, we know about Notre Dame football from
before that a little bit, right, It's that it's that
there's not there wasn't like any kind of rich tradition
of Utah football back then.
Speaker 3 (01:20:44):
That plays into this too.
Speaker 5 (01:20:45):
So it's it's awesome to that he's getting this honor
and it's awesome for us to cover Utah football and
for everyone who calls himself a Utah football fan, or
even just a college football fan in the state of Utah,
maybe you're a BYU or Aggie's fan, whatever, to have
this chance to learn about, probably for the first time,
(01:21:08):
about someone as incredible, who has as incredible as story
as Roy Jefferson.
Speaker 3 (01:21:12):
This is awesome.
Speaker 2 (01:21:14):
All American football player in college Super Bowl champion, absolute legend,
had his high school jersey retired. I mean, the guy
just at every level absolutely excelled. And by the way,
he was six too and about two hundred pounds back
in the sixties.
Speaker 3 (01:21:30):
That's a that's huge guy, that is right, that's huge
for that era for sure.
Speaker 2 (01:21:35):
I mean, and he was playing wide receiver, he was
playing running back, he was playing weirdly an end that
was also a defensive back.
Speaker 3 (01:21:44):
And you know, guys like the offensive linemen of that
day were about his size. So just love it.
Speaker 2 (01:21:51):
Really really excited that we get to see Roy Jefferson
go into the Ring of honer as well tomorrow. Your
grandpa's kind of guy. You've talked about your grandpa being like, well,
you know, telling you like one you be an offensive lineman.
You're like, well, because it's not the fifties or sixties
anything exact way too small. My six foot one, two
hundred and fifteen pound grandpa, all through his college career
(01:22:12):
was like an All conference defensive lineman and offensive lineman.
Speaker 3 (01:22:16):
And he's like, why don't you do that?
Speaker 2 (01:22:18):
Why don't you just go play center at the University
of Utah. I's like, yeah, I should have.
Speaker 3 (01:22:23):
I'm gonna see Jesse Boone if at the game tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (01:22:25):
I should have beat out Jesse Boone for on that
Fiesta Boll team, So what if he's six', five three
hundred SHOULD i should have done?
Speaker 11 (01:22:31):
It?
Speaker 3 (01:22:33):
ANYWAY i.
Speaker 2 (01:22:34):
HOPE i MEAN i didn't do either of those guys.
Justice you can't in you, know ten or fifteen. Minutes
BUT i hope that if nothing, else the induction into
The Utah Football ring Of honor makes people look a
little bit closer at the accomplishments of Both ron McBride
And Roy, jefferson whose names will be immortalized on the
side of Rice Eco stadium tomorrow at, halftime right.
Speaker 5 (01:22:57):
Next to right next To Alex smith in The ring Of. Honor,
Right i'm, assuming but they'll put it in the order.
Speaker 2 (01:23:04):
There, YEAH i don't know how it's gonna go Because
alex is like right dead, center so they'll probably like
build out from.
Speaker 3 (01:23:09):
There yeah maybe or maybe you go, up maybe go.
DOWN i don't. KNOW i don't know how that's gonna.
Work James nobody asked.
Speaker 5 (01:23:16):
Me we shall see tomorrow and get, there get there
early because this is a this is gonna be a. Pregame,
no it's a half time halftime. Ceremony, okay we'll get there.
Speaker 3 (01:23:25):
Early.
Speaker 5 (01:23:25):
Anyway let's let's do things differently this year than we typically, Do,
like let's let's have the atmosphere going right at the
beginning of the. Game but, yeah be sure to be
in your seats at halftime for.
Speaker 3 (01:23:36):
That all.
Speaker 2 (01:23:37):

Speaker 11 (01:25:22):
Material the most egregious omission from the top fifteen this
week Was. Utah utah is number eight for. Me utah
is a top ten team Because utah.
Speaker 3 (01:25:35):
Committed some light crime AGAINST. Ucla AND i know what.
HAPPENED i know what.
Speaker 10 (01:25:43):
Happened we all know what.
Speaker 11 (01:25:44):
Happened those of us who are really die hard and
we love the, sport we were sitting up at one
thirty in the morning Watching. Utah most people with AN
ap vote were sound. Asleep and that's Why utah is
currently what twenty fifth in THE.
Speaker 3 (01:25:59):
Ap it's such a.
Speaker 11 (01:26:01):
Joke this is WHY i don't have time to be
schooled about my power ratings by people whose rankings are
this big a. Joke utah dominated week. ONE i will
virtually guarantee you there will be severe upward. Mobility people
will be so far behind the curve on. Them, Well
i'm Not i'm out of the. Curve, well, actually Actually
i'm just on the curve BECAUSE i actually watched him
(01:26:21):
play the other, night the audacity by the way of ranking.
Teams after you watch him, play YOU.
Speaker 2 (01:26:30):
I feel, like here's what we need to. Do, okay
we need to Get Kyle whittingham And Josh pate take
him to dinner and just put a camera on it
and let him just go talking about the ways to
fix college.
Speaker 3 (01:26:44):
Football he's one of the best of the.
Speaker 2 (01:26:47):
Business he's a passionate fan of college football who also
happens to be a member of the. Media and that's
why you should care about what he has to, say
not just because he loves your, utes not just because
he Think utah deserves more respect than they're getting in
the ap. Pole, look top. TEN i don't know that
you can even decide who's the top, ten or the
(01:27:08):
top fifteen or the top twenty five based on a
one game sample size or even a two game sample.
Size the right thing, is thankfully the thing that The
College Football Playoff committee, does and they wait until you
have four or, five six games before the conversation really
starts about who belongs in that. Conversation WHEN I psa
(01:27:29):
for college football, fans THAT i know majority are not
going to, follow but just, remember please, remember make let
this be the year that you remember before you freak
out about next WEEK'S ap pole, Ratings MONDAY'S ap ratings
for week. Three please make this the year that you
(01:27:52):
remember that that actually has no bearing on. Anything it's
just it's just. Trivia it's. Entertainment it's a way to
promote games for THE tv. Networks that's.
Speaker 5 (01:28:05):
It so If eurero, upset If utah wins and they
only move up to twenty, four or they stay at twenty,
five or heaven, forbid somebody right outside the top twenty
five has a more impressive, win it Knocks utah out.
Speaker 3 (01:28:18):
Temporarily THE ap poll doesn't.
Speaker 5 (01:28:21):
Matter it's the college football playoff poll that actually decides.
Anything so just let's just make this the year that
we remember. THAT i don't expect any of you to
actually do.
Speaker 2 (01:28:31):
That, Oh Josh, paid he's dumping that's the daily. Dump
he's dumping the PRESEASON ap. Pols and he's DUMPING ap
voters who don't stay up to watch, games WHICH i
think if you are A heisman, voter or you're.
Speaker 3 (01:28:46):
AN ap pole voter or, whatever it's a. Responsibility, yeah
you know. How you know how the teams Like.
Speaker 2 (01:28:53):
Utah has iPads with the playbook on it and they
can track how much time people are spending in their
playbook app And Kyler murray got in trouble because he
wasn't watching any.
Speaker 3 (01:29:02):
Film you need that FOR ap. Voters you need that
For heisman AND ap.
Speaker 2 (01:29:06):
VOTERS i NEED i need proof that they are watching
the film and, like, oh it looks like you were
sleeping from ten Pm eastern on pal.
Speaker 3 (01:29:14):

Speaker 5 (01:29:18):

him on every week just to grill him on?
Speaker 3 (01:29:23):

gotta take. It i'm Sure josh is the. Exception we.
Speaker 10 (01:29:42):
Love.
Speaker 2 (01:29:42):
Josh gotta take a break Because Lee sterling is gonna
join us to handicap the games this.
Speaker 3 (01:29:46):

Speaker 2 (01:29:48):

Speaker 2 (01:30:45):
Network Bill riley on the call for A Dallan bentley
touchdown As utah pulled away FROM ucla in an Impressive
week one. Performance utah has got Cal poly this, week and,
uh we've got other games that are a little bit more,
competitive a little bit more compelling to discuss with the
best handicapper in the. Business our Friend Lee sterling joins
(01:31:07):
us now on The sean O'Connell Show Paramount, sports and
he's killing.
Speaker 3 (01:31:12):
It Lee, sterling how are.
Speaker 7 (01:31:13):
You i'm. Good i'm, Good, well not so.
Speaker 13 (01:31:16):
Good last NIGHT i had the over in The Philadelphia dallas,
game the odds of me winning at halftime with a
forty one point production where every team scored on every
possession with a total of forty seven and a. HALF
i was sitting at about ninety nine point two. Percent
and then all they did was get a field goal
(01:31:37):
second half.
Speaker 2 (01:31:39):
That without that that weather, DELAY i think you would
have hit your. OVER i would it just messed up,
everything slowed it all. Down all, right let's talk about
the picks this. WEEK i want TO i want to
start with the The. Aggies Look, Bronco, Meden, Hall bey and.
Back it's a good. Thing they looked awesome AGAINST. Utep
they're in a different environment this. Week it's a twenty
(01:32:00):
nine and a half point spread Against TEXAS a AND.
Speaker 3 (01:32:03):
M how do you see?
Speaker 7 (01:32:04):
It they are and to give them, credit this is
going to be a good.
Speaker 13 (01:32:08):
TEAM i, mean it's a different type of coaching. Staff
he demands. Respect one of the best defensive Coaches i've ever.
Seen he wants to put you in third and.
Speaker 10 (01:32:18):
Long when you, do you're in.
Speaker 7 (01:32:20):
Trouble he's bringing the.
Speaker 13 (01:32:21):
Pressure his whole philosophy is make the quarterback get rid
of the. Ball and you see just some of the
fruits of what he's starting to teach. Here the problem
here is they're going to face A TEXAS a AND
m team that they're going to have to run the ball.
Some they can't just sit back and sling. It And
TEXAS a And m's run. Defense after they give a
(01:32:41):
big run OVER i think it was a seventy something yard,
run they shut the door and didn't allow more than
one yard per carry after that. Point here you have
actually out first down To Utah. State, HERE i Think
Utah state's gonna be much. Better BUT i think they're
gonna be one of these teams that can beat the
bad teams but can't quite play with the good teams.
Speaker 7 (01:33:00):
Yet they just don't quite have that talent.
Speaker 4 (01:33:02):
Level.
Speaker 13 (01:33:03):
HERE a AND m has a couple of guys at,
receiver and even their special teams conception owned who they
got From North Carolina. State next level guys, HERE i
LIKE a AND m. HERE i think they pull away late.
Here forty five to, thirteen all.
Speaker 2 (01:33:16):
RIGHT Byu Stanford stanford Men week one, bye which is always.
Speaker 3 (01:33:22):
Strange week zero they lost To, hawaii AND, byu we
think they're going to be. Good you just don't.
Speaker 2 (01:33:29):
Know they had a trash opponent In week. One Portland
state had nothing for The. Kuges eighteen and a half
is the Spread i'm. Seeing how does it play?
Speaker 7 (01:33:40):
Out?
Speaker 13 (01:33:40):
Yeah, yeah so What Stanford's here's what their game plan
is going to. Be with an extra week, Prepare they're
going to try to do something similar to what they
did in that first. Game control the, ball and they
did actually they controlled it in that first game for
over thirty six, minutes but they just couldn't put points
on the.
Speaker 7 (01:33:56):
Board a lot of costly.
Speaker 13 (01:33:58):
Penalties and to think for that coaching stack, staff they're
going to be able to be much more. Disciplined they
just don't.
Speaker 7 (01:34:06):
Have big strike. Capability.
Speaker 13 (01:34:08):
Now interesting game here because the juicy storyline IS byu
freshman Quarterback Bear bachmeyer left The stanford camp once The
cougar's job opened up, Here Andrew luck and The stanford
staff work to Get bachmeyer rolled early and cleared to
play this, year but their efforts were left.
Speaker 7 (01:34:26):
Empty When bachmeyer left For.
Speaker 13 (01:34:27):
Provo and something tells me here that the rest Of
cardinals is going to have a few extra blitz packages
ready For.
Speaker 7 (01:34:34):
Bachmeer they just don't have The talent's fault the. Upset.
Speaker 13 (01:34:37):
NO i think THAT byu wins this game something like
thirty to. Twenty BUT i Think stanford's going to get
the back door.
Speaker 2 (01:34:44):
Cover oklahoma a five point favorite Against. Michigan these are
two ranked teams that are both trying to kind of
stir the echoes and get back to national championship contention
right now that feels a long way, away but one
can elevate over the, other at least In oklahoma right
now is a five point.
Speaker 3 (01:35:04):
Favorite can As sooners cover.
Speaker 7 (01:35:06):
That here's what's.
Speaker 13 (01:35:08):
Interesting there's a lot of teams in THE sec and
The Big ten they can lose three games and they're
going to probably get into The College Football. PLAYOFF i
don't think these two can because a kind of eliminator
game here In week. One AND i think the problem
(01:35:29):
here For oklahoma is do you really want to lay
five points with a team other than a really good transfer.
Speaker 7 (01:35:35):
Quarterback is still probably not.
Speaker 4 (01:35:37):
THERE i.
Speaker 13 (01:35:37):
DON'T i Think michigan here is going to control both
offensive and defensive. Lines they did it At Ohio state last.
YEAR i love their true freshman Quarterback Bryce. Underwood in my,
opinion he's as good as advertised expect.
Speaker 7 (01:35:51):
Them he did not run the ball once Against New.
Mexico they showed.
Speaker 13 (01:35:54):
NOTHING i expect him to run the ball eight to
ten times, here and they Got Justice hayes From. Alabama
the running back had over one hundred and fifty eight
yards in rushing and three touchdowns last. Week alabama could
have used him. HERE i think this game goes down
to the. WIRE i Think michigan might even pull out the.
Upset rural team Favorite michigan outright twenty four to twenty,
(01:36:15):
one BUT i see a three point game either.
Speaker 2 (01:36:17):
Way All, Right wolverines for the upset. Potentially according To Lee,
Sterling Iowa, state, well you, know we talk a lot
about how there's going to be a bunch of parody
in This big twelve, conference and how do you. Separate
Iowa state has looked really good so. Far they got
The week, zero The pharmageddon, win and.
Speaker 3 (01:36:34):
They followed it. Up they Looked roccobeck looks like he's
the real. Deal and now you've got The.
Speaker 2 (01:36:39):
Syhawks so two rivalry games in the first three weeks
For Iowa state their. Favorites, again can they get Past?
Speaker 13 (01:36:48):
Iowa, Well rocobreck was unbelievab last, week nineteen for. TWENTY i,
mean you don't get much better than that ninety five
percent completion, percentage he. SAID a school in the game last,
week and they are, rolling but usually these games are.
CLOSE i mean they come down to the wire believing
That iowa has, won even though i.
Speaker 7 (01:37:07):
Have state won last, year they've won five straight times.
Speaker 13 (01:37:11):
Into iowa and Names iowa so crazy that they've won
five straight on the road.
Speaker 7 (01:37:15):
HERE i Like Mark, ronkowski their.
Speaker 13 (01:37:18):
Quarterback they got out of the transfer portal From South Dakota.
State he started for five. Years he started fifty five
games For South Dakota, state so very, experienced AND i
think they even found a regrow freshman running.
Speaker 7 (01:37:32):
Back going to the. Fall he was listed at.
Speaker 13 (01:37:34):
Fourth on the depth. Chart But Xavier williams is the real,
deal And Bill parker's a really good defensive. Coordinator also
special teams top ten Where Iowa state kind of middle
of the road.
Speaker 7 (01:37:45):
HERE i Like.
Speaker 13 (01:37:46):
IOWA i think they pull off the small upset here
plus the three and a half twenty three to.
Speaker 2 (01:37:51):
Twenty i'm probably not going to be rooting for The
cyclones in a lot of, games but we need this
to look good for The big Twelve. Conference SO i
don't like that, take But i'll forgive you all. Right
THE nfl is Back. Broncos there's some people picking The
broncos as a dark horse for The Super. BOWL i
don't know If i'm that confident in what they've got
(01:38:12):
going on In, denver but their eight point favorites against
The titans team that's rolling out a lot of new,
things including a rookie.
Speaker 3 (01:38:18):
Quarterback how does this one play?
Speaker 13 (01:38:20):
Out SO i love Cam, ward BUT i will say,
This he's not going to be able to run around
for seven to ten seconds like he did At. Miami
and also what he liked what he did in exhibition
football playing in the preseason because he was facing second
and third. Stringers he's going to face some guys In,
denver for, instance Like Nick.
Speaker 7 (01:38:40):
Bennetti, no a lot of people don't know who he.
Speaker 13 (01:38:42):
Is, well he only just got paid four, years one
hundred and twenty million. Dollars third in the league in
sacks at thirteen and a. Half this guy is a
dog as good As Sean payton Bow knicks. Are the
defense is to strength to this. Unit they HAVE i
think the best defensive secondary. Here That Tennessee titan is
drafted first for a. Reason, Here, denver big thirty to Thirteen.
Speaker 2 (01:39:06):
Game of the week comes to. Night it's The chiefs
against The. Chargers The chiefs are three point favorites and
they're never going. Away it seems like The chiefs are
a bad. Rash they're going to be in the Super
bowl conversation Until Andy reid decides he wants to live
on an island.
Speaker 3 (01:39:23):
Somewhere how do you see the game the?
Speaker 7 (01:39:25):
Week they can get it for. Free have a real
strong feel on one side of this. Game you want
to get.
Speaker 13 (01:39:32):
It just be one of the first ten callers called eight,
hundred four hundred nine to, seven four to, one give
you The chiefs And.
Speaker 7 (01:39:37):
Chargers on me and headed for a big.
Speaker 13 (01:39:41):
Week we have a BIG ufc, card five selections thirty
five dollars including one of the selections is at least
a plus one fifty underdog is our top play so
five for thirty. Five there and football have our first
forty to fifty unit max wager of the year historically
done rate on those seventy one and twenty. Eight so

(01:40:35):
i don't know how many people are high on The,
raiders but there's gotta be. Some and even if you
think these young teams are getting, better and they're getting better,
quickly are they good enough to knock Off Pat, Mahomes
Andy reid and Steal Travis kelcey the future missus or Mister?
Swift all, right we've got coordinators corner. Coming Jason BECK
(01:41:00):
i said it this. WEEK i said it On tuesday
when we jump back on the air after the long.
WEEKEND i don't care how in love you were with
your spouse after that first. DATE i don't care if
you've been in the same job for twenty five years
and you knew that on your first. Day, still the
first impression made in those scenarios was not as good
(01:41:22):
as the first impression made By Jason beck on The
utah football fan.
Speaker 3 (01:41:27):
Base that was a masterful play calling.
Speaker 2 (01:41:31):
Performance The Offensive coordinator And Coordinator's corner next On utah's
number one sports DOG espn seven hundred and ninety two ONE,
fm and we will air our Grievances After Coordinator's.
Speaker 3 (01:41:43):
Corner let's dive into this week's.
Speaker 1 (01:41:45):
Matchup in The Coordinator's corner on The sean O'Connell, show
O c shats With Morgan, scaley a new offensive, Coordinator Jason.
Beck every week of The utah football, Season The Coordinator's
corner is brought to you By Ivory holmes on Your
home of The UTES espn seven hundred day ninety two
to one A.
Speaker 3 (01:42:02):
Fm welcome back to The seawan O'Connell. Show Con now
For Coordinators.
Speaker 2 (01:42:08):
Corner this week we have the pleasure of speaking with
the offensive Coordinator Jason, Beck university Of utah play, caller
coming off a big win AGAINST ucla and of course
getting ready for the home debut against Cal.
Speaker 3 (01:42:21):
Poly, Jason welcome to The sean O'Connell. Show how are, you?
Speaker 4 (01:42:25):
Sir i'm doing, Great. Sean good to be on with.
Speaker 7 (01:42:28):
You Uh, MAN i was.
Speaker 2 (01:42:31):
GUSHING i have been all week long about you really
know how to make a great first impression on This
utah fan. BASE i mean there was a lot of,
speculation a lot of, questions a lot of wondering all season,
long so much, optimism and then your offense comes out
and puts on that performance AGAINST. Ucla when you go
(01:42:51):
back and you grade yourself as a play, caller when
you look at that, game AS i know you have
probably several, times how do you assess the performance against The?
Speaker 4 (01:42:59):
Bruins, YEAH i mean you never quite knowing those first
games what exactly how everything will play. Out but obviously
the guys came out and played really, well executed and
got the job done at a really high, level and
(01:43:21):
it was definitely a great way to start the. Season
did you have.
Speaker 2 (01:43:25):
A sense on game days there is there any q
you're looking for FROM i don't know your, quarterback your,
leaders your offensive, line. Whoever, like all, right these guys
are dialed, in it's going to be a good. DAY i,
mean you've been coaching a long. Time you've been several
different places and been around a few different. Teams, now
are there any little tells for you that maybe you
saw getting ready at The Rose bowl where you thought
(01:43:48):
it was going to be that kind of?
Speaker 4 (01:43:49):
Day you, Know i've Been, no you do. Not some
days guys look great in pregame and things are awesome
and there's good, energy and you don't play. Well in
some days you were worried about, that and they play.
GREAT i did go into. It you felt pretty confident
(01:44:11):
with the old line and the. Quarterback both you know
they have, experience they're really good, players so you're not
expecting like major ups and downs in their. Performance and then,
similarly both backs have played and done things where you didn't,
expect you, know serious. THINGS a lot of the other
(01:44:33):
spots is where you don't exactly know what to do
because you, know we're starting. Freshmen we've got some really
good defensive players that are playing both ways for. Us
you got some tight ends that haven't had a lot
of game, experience and so, anyways you didn't know what
to expect at those, spots and you're kind of ready
(01:44:56):
to adjust in real time as. Needed but, no, everybody
they held their training and played hard and did a
really nice.
Speaker 2 (01:45:05):
Job, well you mentioned, it and obviously it's SOMETHING i
wanted to talk about. Anyway so three defensive players got
offensive snaps in this. Game Coach witt told us to
expect that From Smith snoden and From. LANDERBARTON i didn't
know that we were supposed to expect it From Jackson,
benny but those three guys, specifically we could go one by.
One let's Talk Smith. Snowden he had what the six
(01:45:29):
catches for fifty one? Yards he got into the end
zone for, you he looked, LIKE i, mean he's a
great defensive, player but my hot take was that this
dude's maybe a better offensive player even than he is
a defensive.
Speaker 3 (01:45:43):
Player what did you think of his?
Speaker 2 (01:45:44):
Performance and is that you know kind of what you
had in your mind when you designed some plays and
packages for.
Speaker 4 (01:45:49):
Him, yeah in a, practice he looks when he gets the,
ball he's, dynamic he goes, hard he's decis, of he's,
fast he can make you, miss and so he'd been
a really dynamic playmaker in. Practice now we didn't tackle
(01:46:11):
him just because of his. Value so that was the only.
Thing you, know you're in the, game you're you're excited about.
Everything you're just, going all, right what's this going to
look like in the, real live situation and h and
he obviously did a really nice job and was really
productive every time he touched the, ball and so not,
(01:46:33):
surprised you, know that's why we're kind of getting the
ball to him right out the. Gate and he's played a,
lot so he didn't expect him to have any you,
know dramatic swings of.
Speaker 3 (01:46:44):
Performance and Then lander obviously also scored a.
Speaker 2 (01:46:48):
Touchdown good chemistry already between him And dev and we've
we've had a couple of conversations With dev who says
that that's the guy when when it's offense versus, defense
that was the guy that he was talking tracks, to
the friendly banter back and. Forth it's you, Know, lander
defensive leader And devin and now they got the. Connection
AS i guess a passing. Battery not quite as many
(01:47:12):
reps For, lander is that the workload you anticipate from
him offensively in most of the games this.
Speaker 4 (01:47:17):
Year, NO i, think you, know it can always fluctuate
based off one thing or, another BUT i do think
he'll play that or more going. Forward you, KNOW i
was impressed with him in the spring going against him
on defense of how good of a player he is
and how instinctive he. Is he, just you, know you
(01:47:41):
don't typically go into stuff and have to really work
around the linebacker because as a quarterback he's reading you
and making plays on the ball and really. Disruptive but
you had to do that with him in THE rpo. Game,
man he just has a knack of of being really
(01:48:01):
disruptive on the. Offense so, anyways when he came over
to offense to do, stuff it was the same. Thing
he's just a really good, player really good, skills but
he's just also very, instinctive and so it's been great
working with him because it's just things come easy for
him because of his football, iq how instinctive he, is
(01:48:22):
kind of how much common sense he has playing the.
Speaker 2 (01:48:25):
Position Jackson benny started his years At utah as a walk.
On the journey of a walk on is not usually
glamorous and doesn't have A cinderella ending where you get
to play not only in real games and meaningful, snaps
but you get to play both. Ways as a former
Walk on, myself, like this kid is living the dream
(01:48:47):
that every Walk on Has AND i just wanted your
thoughts on what he means to this team as a
player on both sides of the. Ball he was incredible
last year on special. TEAMS i know that's something he's
still dabbling in and just an unbelievable, player and you
as a coaching staff obviously trust him enough that he
can take on the workload of both.
Speaker 4 (01:49:07):
Sides, yeah it's you, know similar in that at some
point during, camp you, Know morgan has kind of mentioned,
that you, know he was a high school, receiver not
a defensive, player and he had that, background and he
defensively he was one of the best at kind of
(01:49:28):
going up and attacking the, ball and so he just
kind of threw out there to, man you guys might
want to take a look at, him you. Know so,
anyway sure, enough the. Kid the thing with him is
he has good size and he can really. Run he catches,
easy you, know but he just plays really. Hard and
(01:49:49):
it's interesting when guys just play really. Hard good things,
happen and so, yeah we just kind of want to
take advantage of what he can do and how he
can add to the group and had a, night you,
know made a nice catch and helped us move the
Move The Chains.
Speaker 2 (01:50:09):
Coordinator's corner With Jason, beck offensive coordinator at The university Of,
utah brought to you by our friends At ivory Homes
here ON espn seven hundred and ninety two ONE. Fm All, right,
Coach i've Been i've been waiting all week to talk
to you about twenty, plays nine minutes and forty four.
Speaker 3 (01:50:26):
Seconds chewed up off the. Clock this was this was to.
Speaker 2 (01:50:31):
Me it was like you you were making this incredible
debut as a play, caller showing the dynamism of the,
offense showing the, creativity showing the ability to have you,
know big playmakers out. There and then also, like in
the middle of this great, performance a love letter To
Kyle whittingham and the old, school let's grind it out
for ten minutes and shorten a game and chew up
(01:50:53):
all the. CLOCK i DON'T i don't believe that that
was probably your thought process, exactly but that's how it
looked from a fan. Perspective walk me through what you were,
seeing why you were calling those. Plays how you guys
built that that ten minute.
Speaker 4 (01:51:08):
Drive, yeah nothing, deliberate you know that that caused that to.
Happen just the way it played. Out we kept finding
ourselves in really, good on schedule situations that allowed us
to go for it on fourth downs and just kind
(01:51:28):
of keep converting and, moving moving the. CHAINS a few
of the plays were not. Great we probably could have
scored a little, earlier you, know with a couple of
things going a little, better but we were just on
schedule and really, efficient which just allowed us to kind of, keep,
yeah churning it. Out looking, back you, know there's a
couple of things as we got down there on the goal.
(01:51:49):
Line we i could have made a better call in
the second down and just scored, then but we kind
of tried something outs in it backfired and you, know
extended to.
Speaker 7 (01:52:00):
Drive but.
Speaker 4 (01:52:02):
It did play to the strength of the old, Line
devin in the backs and then being really efficient in
the run game and stringing together that long.
Speaker 2 (01:52:16):
DRIVE i know we've talked to you about this, before
and probably every conversation you've had since taken this job
has included some kind of commentary on the offensive line
and how talented they. Are the, experience you know how
Good Jim harding is as a partner in helping develop this.
Offense but now that you've seen, it now that you've
been able to actually do it when it's, live when it,
(01:52:39):
matters what is it like for you having this offensive
line executing the way they did AGAINST?
Speaker 4 (01:52:45):
Ucla, yeah it. Was it just led you to be
really efficient in everything we're. Doing there weren't that negative
yards plays the negative you know that that sets you
behind the. State that just allowed us to always be on.
Schedule and you know there's some really nice, plays like
(01:53:06):
on a third down where we threw it kind of
looked one way and throw it out to the flat
To snowden to get the First caleb is has a
safety with outside leverage and he is getting out there
and winning that block in, space and you know that's
something that's really, difficult but because he gets that, done
(01:53:28):
it makes that play look so easy That snowden catches
in a flat and runs for ten to eleven twelve.
Yards on a third, down you, know we throw a
little screen out and to actually it was also To
snowden and the dns. Dropping he's not rushing, hard he's just.
(01:53:48):
Floating spencer takes, him attaches to, him drives, them and
dominoes them into another defender that Now snowden curls off
that and has a nice efficient. Play you know a
lot of times that can be a no yard play
or a one yard play or a minus one yard.
Play but because of what you, know those guys, do
(01:54:11):
now it turns into an eight yard. Play and so
it was just much more efficient than because of the
job they're getting. Done and so started With, jaron you,
know at the center, spot just his, communication putting everybody
in the right the right calls he. Was he was
spot on with what he was doing and usually threw
(01:54:33):
quite a few little changeups at. Us after we got
them on their, hills they started going to some drop
aid and some three odd fronts and some bear and
he handled all of that really, well and the guys had,
very very very few miss id negative.
Speaker 2 (01:54:52):
Assignments your quarterback is a guy that you know better
than all of, us having worked with them At New.
Mexico we had a conversation with him this, week and
he's incredibly complimentary of you and of the relationship that
you two, have you, know kind of personally but also
as partners in this this football. Endeavor tell me your
(01:55:13):
assessment Of devin specifically in his first game in A utah,
uniform not just the plays that we all got to
see him, make but the way that you know he
was communicating with you and on the, sideline and you,
know the leadership role he plays as a quarterback on this.
Speaker 4 (01:55:27):
Team, YEAH i think is what you don't, see but
it's kind of, evident is just what a great person he,
is how he shows up every day and just works really,
hard and how much everybody just totally trusts. Him and
so that's been that chemistry and that work has been
(01:55:51):
going Since. January you, know that didn't just show up On.
Saturday and because of, that all of those things that
allow out what you saw On saturday look so. Good
so that's, just, yeah Who devin is and how how
he carries. Himself and then you, know you see he's
(01:56:12):
just a he's a dynamic. Player he can really throw the.
Ball he makes he's the Best i've ever been around
throwing on the, move and he's hard to get. DOWN i,
mean he can make guys, miss extend, plays get out
of trouble and and he makes really good. Decisions so
a lot of those plays there's multiple. Options you, know
(01:56:34):
he can throw a little quick thing, here he can
hand it, off he can pull him throw. This he
just makes good decisions at a really high. Rate so
so it just makes things look look easy for how
complicated of decisions he's making in real. Time so just
(01:56:55):
a great kid and a really good.
Speaker 2 (01:56:56):
Player coach is getting almost uncomfortable and so effusive and
so gushy about this offense For utah. FOOTBALL i, Mean
i've been around this team and covering this team so.
Long it's just it's a foreign concept to be, like,
man that was really, Great so give, me give me
something that you need to get better against Cal poly
and moving forward from this. Offense, obviously forty three, points
(01:57:20):
the efficiency on third, down all of that was so so.
Great but give me something that you, know coaches are never.
Satisfied give me something you're not satisfied with right now
from this.
Speaker 4 (01:57:28):
Offense, yeah the the lack of explosive, plays you, know
fifteen yard. Plays we gotta be better because you're not
going to be you, know it's going to be hard
to duplicate that kind of third down. Efficiency it's going
(01:57:49):
to be hard to duplicate stringing together those long drives
that end in. Touchdowns we need more fifteen twenty twenty
five yard plays in there that allow us to score
the points when you're not going to be able to
execute at such a high level. Consistently and so that's
(01:58:12):
going to be a, focus you, know going forward that
we need to, see especially in the past. Game especially
in the past.
Speaker 3 (01:58:19):
Game how did your running backs great out in this?
Speaker 2 (01:58:23):
Game we saw And Coach witt said after the, game you,
know they had almost identical yardage in this, game not
a huge disparity in the touches and the carries that they,
got and he, said they're pretty much interchangeable right now as.
Starters how did Wa sean and The Carrie rodgers great
out in this?
Speaker 3 (01:58:38):
Game when you did the film, Study.
Speaker 4 (01:58:41):
Yeah you, know we. Do we kind of split. Them you,
know they're just kind of fifty to fifty on. Everything
we'll always write the hot hand if somebody's doing better
and fresh or, whatever we'll just because there they are.
Interchangeable there's nothing real specific one guy does over the.
OTHER i thought they both played really hard with really great. Effort,
(01:59:05):
specifically you, know on that very first play of the
game When snowden got that little pass and took it
for ten, Way shan throws a terrific block to start
that whole. Thing there's a real tight corner and, man
he really attacked that block and did a nice. Job
and then sure enough they graded out. Afterwards they graded
(01:59:26):
out really. Similarly both really, solid you, know not exceptionally
great performance by either, guy but they both graded out really.
Speaker 3 (01:59:37):
Solid who will we see more?
Speaker 2 (01:59:40):
OF i, mean you didn't have an opportunity to get
the ball to everyone you wanted to get the ball to,
you you, know not everyone gets to have a breakout
game and only one performance AGAINST ucla to start the.
Season who do you want to see more? Of who
do you you, know feel, like let's get the ball
in this guy's hands a little bit more this?
Speaker 10 (01:59:56):
Week you KNOW i.
Speaker 4 (01:59:57):
DID i came away from it thinking we would have
liked to get to buy us some more, targets and
we got a couple of targets To Larry. Simmons you,
know he was he had a thing where he's out
of bounds on the two minute drill and came back
and caught up and he had one where he slipped
down on the goal line and we didn't. Connect BUT
(02:00:20):
i would have liked those two to each have a
few more. Catches we need that for the offense to
be a little more balanced and the ability to have
a few more explosive plays in.
Speaker 7 (02:00:30):
There and then.
Speaker 4 (02:00:34):
Just the way things worked, out had a few carries
For Hunter andrews on. There we only got one of those.
Carries so he's kind of a half tight, end half running,
back maybe more three quarters tight end a quarter running,
back but you, know we'd like to get him a
couple carries just to see what he can do and
(02:00:56):
how he can help our.
Speaker 2 (02:00:56):
Offense so, obviously the Cow paul game by design is
supposed to, be you, know it's AN fcs, opponent it's
supposed to be you over matching, them a little bit
of a tune, up a little bit of a. Cleanup
but you can't ever take anything for granted in college.
Speaker 3 (02:01:12):
Football you know that better THAN i. Do so what
is it like actually game?
Speaker 2 (02:01:16):
Planning what is the difference between game planning for a
Cal poly versus A ucla or for A Texas tech
which is coming down the.
Speaker 4 (02:01:24):
Road, no we want to approach it the exact Same
and that's kind of a challenge to, everybody especially after
you have success and you get all the paths on
the back is, man can you show up the same,
mindset the same, hunger the same, humility and prepare and
(02:01:47):
practice the same. Way and so that's what we're focused
on as a team and as an, offense is to,
do you, know approach everything the same way as we
just did WITH. Ucla the challenges we got for you
for the, opener you get a little more time to.
Prepare now you're on your normal week of preparation, schedule
and so you, know With, Tuesday, Wednesday thursday practice and
(02:02:09):
A friday, walkthrough can we be as prepared to play
and have the same mindset.
Speaker 10 (02:02:16):
This week is the?
Speaker 2 (02:02:18):
Challenge, well, COACH i know that there's plenty more work
to be, done and you, know the one game is just,
that it's one. GAME i don't know If i've ever
seen somebody have such a successful first, impression so so
incredible with the way your offense. PERFORMED i thought that
your play calling was. Awesome the feedback that we're getting
(02:02:38):
from the fan base and all of us so called,
experts it's just been really really cool to see the
work that you all have put in. Payoff SO i
want to congratulate you for THE ucla, game and we're
very much looking forward to Cal poly and everything that
comes after, that and very much appreciate you taking time
out of a busy week to join us here on
The sean O'Connell.
Speaker 3 (02:02:58):
Show thank you.
Speaker 4 (02:02:59):
Again, yeah you're good to be on with, You. SHAWN
i appreciate.
Speaker 1 (02:03:03):
It that Is.
Speaker 2 (02:03:04):

(02:05:02):
Grievance james in the boxing.
Speaker 3 (02:05:05):
World, Okay so.
Speaker 2 (02:05:08):
We know that boxing has morphed into more of a
kind of sports entertainment spectacle than the, traditional like old
school pure boxing, experience and we can blame a lot
of things for, that the corruption in the, sport the,
promoters our own obsession with the, internet. Whatever So i've
(02:05:30):
already expressed my angst over the idea That Jake paul
is expected to Fight Jervonte Tank, davis who competes at
one hundred and thirty five, pounds And Jake paul is
walking around at well over two hundred pounds right, Now
so that's. SILLY i hate that that's going to be
an exhibition match, Anyway but now it's getting, Worse, James
and here's my a. Grievance there's now a plan about
(02:05:53):
being discussed Between Floyd, mayweather who's forty eight yearsyears old
and about one hundred and forty pounds And Mike tyson
who is fifty.
Speaker 3 (02:06:07):
Nine years old and over two hundred.
Speaker 4 (02:06:09):
Pounds so we've.
Speaker 2 (02:06:11):
Thrown out the weight, classes we've gotten rid of the
purity of, competition and now we're doing it in the
ugliest way possible by putting a Geriatric Mike tyson out
there against far past his Prime Floyd, mayweather AND, I,
sir am bothered by this.
Speaker 3 (02:06:28):
Grievance, yeah like this is when does?
Speaker 11 (02:06:37):
It?
Speaker 3 (02:06:37):
At what? Point is it?
Speaker 5 (02:06:38):
ENOUGH i guess. IT i guess never if it's a
huge money making, opportunity but like it's like it's been
played out. ALREADY i don't, know does.
Speaker 2 (02:06:47):
Anyone want to see does anyone actually want to pay
for like fork out fifty bucks on a pay per
view OR i guess you could put it On netflix,
again and you could we could all waste three hours watching.
It but does anyone actually want to like Watch Michael
jordan VERSUS i don't know Who's who's someone ten years
(02:07:07):
younger Than Michael jordan in? Basketball, James like you want
to Watch Michael Jordan Kevin garnett play one on one.
Speaker 3 (02:07:13):
And had that be like a. Thing i'm not into. That,
yeah it's we don't do this with other. Sports why
are we doing it with boxing of all? Things it's,
gross it's.
Speaker 2 (02:07:22):
Stupid and by the, way when you throw away the weight,
classes that's the whole thing that makes boxing compelling and
reasonable and on some level.
Speaker 3 (02:07:31):
Safer when you have two hundred pound people fighting one
hundred and thirty five pound, people it's stupid.
Speaker 5 (02:07:37):
Grievance should we Blame should we Blame Apollo creed In
rocky four for this kind of? Thing when his sham
of an exhibition against Even drago where he tragically lost his?
Life is that the impetus for this sort of thing
where it's like these fake exhibition matches that it's, like
just give.
Speaker 3 (02:07:57):
Us the real ones that have anything on the. Line,
YEAH i.
Speaker 2 (02:08:01):
DON'T i don't know If i'm ready to blame blame
a movie on. IT i don't know If i'm ready
to Blame paulo create a fictional character for. It but
it's it's getting to be pretty.
Speaker 3 (02:08:10):
Ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (02:08:12):
Uh to the text, line we go our Guy cole
says his grievance says WITH byu, fans he brings that
in all.
Speaker 3 (02:08:17):
The Time All. Caps by the, way he's big mad about.
This we blew out A big ten, team they blew
out AN fcs. Team big.
Speaker 2 (02:08:25):
Difference, okay Relaxed, cole but Also greevans, Aired i'm happy
to do.
Speaker 3 (02:08:30):
It for, you and we appreciate. You and and no
eyes detected.
Speaker 5 (02:08:37):
ANYONE buyu fan or otherwise trying to, say, oh, well
our sixty nine points against a team who hasn't scored
this year in two weeks is more impressive than your
forty three points against a admittedly probably Bad big ten,
Team like you're you're out of your.
Speaker 2 (02:08:54):
Mind, well it's apples and, oranges, obviously but if if
you see lays the, apple and in this Case Portland
state is the. Orange it's like a rotten, orange you
know how when you reach into the bottom of the
bag and there's that one that as soon as you
wrap your fingers around its spherical, shape there's a hidden
(02:09:17):
soft spot that's all moldy and gross and squishes in
when you grab. It that's the orange that we're talking
about with With Portland. State did you see did you
see the latest text we.
Speaker 3 (02:09:29):
Just Portland state graduate just walked up to the table right.
Speaker 15 (02:09:32):
Now we have A Portland state graduate at a broadcast
table right, now buddies till seven.
Speaker 3 (02:09:37):
Hundred this man needs gift.
Speaker 15 (02:09:41):
Cards he needs tailgate passes to compensate for the embarrassment
suffered by his vikings against b.
Speaker 3 (02:09:47):
Yu he, Said i'm fairly used to.
Speaker 7 (02:09:50):
That that is.
Speaker 2 (02:09:51):
Correct he just did you just did you just hear
me trashing Your Portland state vikings as you were walking.
Speaker 3 (02:09:57):
Past and that's why that's. Amazing what a wonderful coincidence that.
Is thank you for stopping. By that is so.
Speaker 2 (02:10:05):
Fantastic oh my, gosh totally, unplanned, impromptu and that young
man uh deserves a gift.
Speaker 5 (02:10:12):
Card was his trouble was that it was that that
qualifies his a grievance against what you just said about
his beloved. VIKINGS i think right, there that's. Amazing shout
out to, You Portland state graduate In.
Speaker 2 (02:10:28):
Solittercity thirty Eight so we're getting really met at here
thirty eight sixty, nine Says.
Speaker 3 (02:10:32):
GRIEVANCE i hate all. Caps grievance. Texts, yes we know this.
Call we we appreciate. You we appreciate you for that.
Speaker 2 (02:10:43):
Too twenty seven oh two, grievance do not spit on
another human being vile that was on national. Television all,
right that was, Gross Jalen. Carter you also get yourself
kicked out of a game THAT i guess totally a
team didn't need you that. Much but grievance against just
stupid bonehead of mistakes costing your team does.
Speaker 5 (02:11:03):
That there's been a fair amount of like moral victory
stuff on The cowboys side today that the fact that
they were close when one of the eagles best defensive
players didn't play a snap got tolfies a lot of
that right as. Impressive admittedly it. WASN'T i they, Overperformed
(02:11:26):
they outperformed my expectations given what we given the firestorm
they've had to go through with after trading your best.
Player but still like that kind of nolifies the moral, victory,
Right like your offense looked pretty good for about two
thirds of the game when they didn't have one of
their best players.
Speaker 2 (02:11:44):
PLAYING i don't think there's LIKE i don't think against
the divisional, rival especially you could even like be happy about,
yeah because it's just, like oh, man we were, close but.
Speaker 3 (02:11:58):
That's a division.
Speaker 2 (02:11:59):
Game and if there's a moral victory to be had
for For dallas, there it's that you didn't completely collapse
defensively Without Micah. Parsons you know that's a good thing for,
THEM i, Guess but NOW i feel gross about mentioning
anything good about The Dallas. Cowboys grievance against, You, james
(02:12:19):
that's my bad thirty eight, eighty says grievance for the
day When i'm running before the sun comes. Up, okay
grievance on your subtle flex, there but only a small,
one and you turn on your brides to Identify thanks
for seeing. Me first of, all please go back to
regular headlights as you pass so it don't trip, over
crack and fall in or fall in a. Manhole it's
impossible to see anything with your brides in my. Eyes thanks,
(02:12:41):
guys your, Shows your show is the, best all? Right
thirty eight. Eighty i'm going to echo your grievance because
you should always be careful with the, brides all, right
they do blind. People but, also why are you flexing
on all of us talking about running before the sun
comes up like? This this is a safe space for
lazy fan like. Myself what are we? Doing thirty eight, Eighty, yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:13:03):
GRIEVANCE I i also echo your grievances as a fellow
lazy fatty like that's not an even probably even more
lazy and more fatty than.
Speaker 1 (02:13:12):
YOU.
Speaker 3 (02:13:12):
Oc this is this is.
Speaker 2 (02:13:13):
Gross twenty six twenty just finished back to back trips To,
Pasadena i'm assuming for the game AGAINST ucla and then.
Speaker 3 (02:13:20):
To vegas for.
Speaker 2 (02:13:21):
Work do people's like qs get cut at half when
they step into an? AIRPORT i think we need travel
school or something before being allowed to fly on. Planes
too many clueless, people ridiculous grievance. Aired, uh, yeah that's,
fair that's. Fair people have a hard. Time although did
we see did you guys see the announcement that came
(02:13:42):
FROM tsa this?
Speaker 3 (02:13:43):
Week this is this is really.
Speaker 2 (02:13:45):
GREAT i, mean THE tsa is mostly something you should
be airing grievances. Against but they made an announcement this
week that there's now going to be a separate lane
for family. Travel so they're gonna have like a full
separate security lane for the strollers and the babies and
the toddlers and the little, kids the big groups and
(02:14:08):
the formula in the you know where you have to
like have The they got a sample whether that powdered
milk is actually powdered, milk and not Like colombian bam
bam they they're actually doing something that makes intuitive.
Speaker 3 (02:14:22):
Sense, here good job to. Essay it's like the opposite
of a.
Speaker 5 (02:14:25):
Grievance, yeah this this feels like this feels very logical
and also very well, overdueesa but, hey better late than,
never good good for.
Speaker 3 (02:14:39):
You how about this a high school football.
Speaker 2 (02:14:45):
Grievance, Oh i'm not gonna call out the teams BECAUSE
i don't like doing that because there's high school players.
Speaker 3 (02:14:52):
Involved but it's not their.
Speaker 2 (02:14:52):
Fault but TEAM a was up twenty eight to six
with three minutes to go against another team who did
not have any at, all and the team that was
up attempted an on. Sidekick up twenty eight to six
with three minutes. Ago that's weak. Sauce that's a little
bit mean, spirited. Honestly, Yeah, OH i called that, grievance
(02:15:13):
like you can kneel it out at that.
Speaker 3 (02:15:15):
Point don't do.
Speaker 2 (02:15:17):
THAT a, team especially a team that doesn't have any upper,
classmen is not going to come back down three scores
with three minutes.
Speaker 3 (02:15:25):
Left it's not even mathematically. Possible probably in high school, football.
Speaker 5 (02:15:29):
There's there's a lot more of a running, clock If
i'm not mistaken on the high school in high school games,
Too so, yeah it's it's it's even more improbable in
high school then than in collegiate or pro, sports for.
Speaker 2 (02:15:44):
Sure my grievance is the amount of ads and commercials
that we have to put up with these. DAYS i
understand the fact that they pay the, bills but it
gets ridiculous with the ads that way the content you're actually.
Getting recent culprits of this include, YouTube social, media and
NOW Nfl Red. Zone it's harassment and also the Reason
i've become more impatient BECAUSE i just wanted to cut
the crap and consume the content that's from seventy five to.
Speaker 3 (02:16:05):
Sixteen uh, YEAH i you know, What i'll echo that.
Speaker 2 (02:16:08):
Grievance When i'm walking my, DOG i like to fire
up a little, podcast BUT i don't download, Apps, james
SO i just go to YouTube on my, phone, Okay
and When i'm playing these, podcasts it's like every three
minutes they got to go to AN ad and then
you got to take the phone out of the pocket
to hit skip the ad instead of it going automatically
(02:16:29):
back to the.
Speaker 3 (02:16:30):
Programming, so, yeah that's a first world, problem but it
is a.
Speaker 5 (02:16:34):
Problem, yeah IT'S i GO i go back and forth
on it because probably Because i'm in the industry That i'm,
in AND i know that what he, said what our
texter said at the very beginning is is unfortunately the
case like it pays the. Bills So i've been more
(02:16:56):
patient with, commercials probably because of WHERE i of WHERE
i work and, run running a radio station that relies on,
commercials the revenue from. Commercials but also it does feel
like we could probably put these different places so that
it like in, games for, example maybe we could make.
Speaker 3 (02:17:15):
The halftime commercial breaks.
Speaker 5 (02:17:17):
LONGER i don't, know but then you but then you
can you get in this situation like ON espn and
THEIR Nba finals coverage where they have thirty seconds of
highlights because they because the rest of the halftime show is.
Commercials SO i don't know, it it feels like a
problem that probably isn't going to go away unless we're
all gonna raise our hands and, say you know, WHAT
(02:17:38):
i will fork. Over you, KNOW i will fork over
however many dollars a month that covers these companies commercial
revenue for it in subscription costs to not have, commercials
AND i don't think we're gonna do, That SO i don't.
Speaker 2 (02:17:54):
KNOW i can speak in a subscription. COSTS i gotta
call my cable. PROVIDER i won't tell you who it.
Is you, know if you don't, like if you sign
up for the introductory, deal then you just kind of leave.
Speaker 3 (02:18:06):
It, yeah they start adding more.
Speaker 2 (02:18:07):
Stuff they're just like a surd charge here and a
search charge, there and then you started paying one hundred
bucks a. Month and then a couple of years later you're,
like it's now three hundred dollars a month for me
to have.
Speaker 3 (02:18:17):
Cable, really, like that's. RIDICULOUS i got.
Speaker 2 (02:18:20):
It we got we got sponsors on the station that
that could help me solve that. Problem it's my own,
fault but come, on, man. Yikes pro podcasts on the
Dog walk. Tip use The apple podcast. App you could
tell things like fast forward thirty, seconds fast forward two,
minutes depending on how many ads there.
Speaker 3 (02:18:38):
Are, okay, yeah but THEN i have to don't have
to download an. APP i don't like downloading. Apps it bothers.
Me grievance against.
Speaker 2 (02:18:47):
Apps, Rosy, yeah, man he's a download an app for
everything these.
Speaker 3 (02:18:50):
Days it drives me. Nuts it's. TRUE I i'm kind
of anti.
Speaker 5 (02:18:55):
Adding more subscription so that's kind of my in the
kind of in the same same ballpark is LIKE i told,
You i'm resisting the urge to subscribe to the new
direct to CONSUMER. ESPN i know That i'm probably going
to do it, eventually But i'm resisting for as long
(02:19:18):
AS i can because i just don't want to add
another monthly expense for my media.
Speaker 3 (02:19:22):
Consumption but it's.
Speaker 2 (02:19:23):
Death by a thousand, cuts you, know because what they
do is they're just, like, oh it's only an extra
five dollars, here it's only an extra ten dollars. There, Oh,
apple your old subscription on like, whatever Your APPLE tv
was ten dollars and now it's thirteen.
Speaker 3 (02:19:38):
Dollars it's, like.
Speaker 2 (02:19:38):
Wait a, second if any other product increases unannounced their
price thirty, percent we're gonna be, like whoa what happened?
Speaker 3 (02:19:48):
Here when gas prices go up thirty, percent we all
lose our. Minds, yeah and these subscription, services they just
like sneak it in. There and you know WHAT i
blame myself BECAUSE i still don't cancel most of. Them
is that because we.
Speaker 5 (02:20:01):
Don't is that because gas stations literally put big signs
that we can't miss while we're out and. About, well
while these subscription services they just they don't advertise that
they're doing price. Increases like gas, stations we just, Sneakily,
oh it's up a little.
Speaker 3 (02:20:19):
Bit don't worry about.
Speaker 2 (02:20:20):
It while we're on the, Topic by the, way the
fact that gas prices fluctuate so wildly based on your
geography in The United, states In, america.
Speaker 3 (02:20:29):
That can't there's no, way there's.
Speaker 2 (02:20:31):
No way that it should be like ten dollars In
california and three dollars here and two point fifty In North,
carolina and like a dollar In.
Speaker 3 (02:20:40):
TEXAS i get there's some, proximity but, man it's strange
that it varies so drastically based on the region you're.
In i'm with you on that.
Speaker 5 (02:20:51):
One that never made any sense to, me but it
was also something And i'm, like, Obviously i'm not smart
enough to understand, Why SO i GUESS i. WON'T i
Guess i'll move on BEFORE i really get upset About,
yeah do.
Speaker 3 (02:21:03):
You have an Grievances. James we haven't given you the floor.
Speaker 5 (02:21:05):
YET i, MEAN i kind of aired mine, earlier The
Dak prescott thing where he just blatantly lied that he didn't,
spit he didn't purposely, spit And Jalen carter's direction really bothers,
me even Though Jalen carter deserves the punishment he got
because he, is like you, said he was the second
guy and he actually directly did spit on Uh Dak,
(02:21:29):
prescott which is, like come, on that's a line there
that he you should probably be ejected.
Speaker 3 (02:21:35):
For like he Was Dak prescott just telling us like
watch the.
Speaker 5 (02:21:40):
Video he makes this space like take this while he
spits in his. Direction it just happened to hit the.
Ground i'm not Saying dak should have been ejected, too
but just like grievance against lying to make yourself look,
better just avoid just avoid answering or just avoid talking
about how you instigated.
Speaker 3 (02:22:00):
Things like.
Speaker 5 (02:22:03):
Everyone was focused On Jaylen carter. Anyway it's not like
anyone it's not like anyone was seriously, thinking, oh, Well
dak must have done something really bad like it just
just don't talk about, it don't lie to us like,
WELL i didn't want to hit my, lineman like you
made like a stank face at him and then spit
in his.
Speaker 3 (02:22:22):
Direction come, on.
Speaker 2 (02:22:22):
It's such a it's such a perfect grievance to Air
james when you say, Stop like grievance against lying to
make yourself look, better because that's, like that's like a
serious problem in the human.
Speaker 3 (02:22:32):
Condition but you're and we're are haughty of. It by the.
Way BUT i, Said i'm gonna you know, people.
Speaker 2 (02:22:40):
You're you're holding it On Dak prescott of all of
all the, examples you know.
Speaker 3 (02:22:45):
WHAT i like that also. Grievance grievance Against.
Speaker 2 (02:22:49):
James for making me aware of a movie Where Tony.
Dance now you GOTTA i looked The Garbage Man.
Speaker 3 (02:22:55):
Kicker it was A.
Speaker 5 (02:22:56):
Disney apparently it was A Disney channel original, movie which
makes total sense based on that plot from the late.
NINETIES i looked it up to try to remind myself
WHERE i saw. THAT i didn't remember if it was
in theaters or ON. Tv Now i'm trying To Now
i'm trying to find out if it's On Disney plus
(02:23:16):
SO i can SO i can watch it, again because it.
Is it is the most ridiculous yet kind of, fun
fun and a ridiculous way kind of.
Speaker 3 (02:23:25):
Movie THAT i hadn't seen a long.
Speaker 5 (02:23:28):
Time, honestly hadn't thought about it in a very long
time until we UNTIL i brought, up, hey he should
just kick it through the field Going i'm, like, oh,
yeah that's there's that Weird eagles movie From Disney channel.
Speaker 3 (02:23:38):
THAT i think at.
Speaker 2 (02:23:38):
That, well how about this grievance against the Entire hollywood
industrial complex that it's either a remake a retread of
an old, concept or it's something like that Where Tony
danza is playing a kicker who somehow developed kicking power
because garbage truck because it's, yeah because he was kicking
(02:23:58):
the lever on his garbage like.
Speaker 3 (02:24:00):
That that's our.
Speaker 2 (02:24:01):
Choices we can recycle ideas that came from like the
nineteen seventies In, hollywood or you could have some CHAT
gpt theme.
Speaker 3 (02:24:12):
That you told the artificial give me.
Speaker 2 (02:24:14):
The dumbest movie, possible AND i wanted to be starring
the guy From who's The? Boss, like what are we doing, Here?
Speaker 3 (02:24:24):
Hollywood please and give us some original.
Speaker 5 (02:24:28):
