phenomenal. You know, whenever youare somebody like this man about come on
(01:30):
here. And I say that becausehe has been around the world and back
and he is an absolutely wonderful, down to earth individual with beautiful kids,
and he does absolutely beautiful things forindividuals in this world that we live in
today. Um, he is amusician. Musician, I do. I
(01:56):
was gonna say that musicians I evenpracticed, but yes, um, and
uh, do you have anything?Um? No, we are just the
intro or this week? Okay, well, so what you do this week?

Yeah, we're gonna state that wedon't know where we're at, Like what
(02:51):
you just another place? Is itthe god best? We were right there
at the beginning of when we wereto be a voice. We don't even
know what we are. Yeah, but we're sticking all the weather from me,
and we did all that. Itsucks. Sometimes it's still the weather.
Yes, you know they sat inour comment. I think Roy Rogers
(03:14):
is the one that said it,if you don't like weather or common,
they're just like a change. Idid not realize that that's just the ass
like artist ally, and I askpeople all the way up to want to
sell them list so I guess allthe Tornado Alley. If you don't like
(03:37):
leather, just wait a minute, five minutes. Yeah, we had a
blast. I think I like stayedout a little cold too. I mean,
so I apologize for all your listenersthat don't like to hear that.
But we'll just tak end of theunicorns. Okay, they're just like running

M hm, so but no fromit. Oh I shut my hair,
dude. Oh he just wanted tosee I shut my hair. Beautiful.
(04:28):
Anyways, what's that any frother todue? Let's bring out our guest,
Stustin. He is a musician. He is a singer. You might know
him from a little band hold savingwas like the last ten years. Yes,
he does. So now he's outon his own, he is,
and he has been making a trail. Oh, by the way, sorry
(04:51):
about the background having time. Well, I was listening to the show.
I'm sitting outside with my jacket allbut like you were saying, how on?
(05:12):
Oh connected? One second, otherstarts again, Hey can you hear
me? Well? Can you hearme? Now? Hear you? Let
me hear you? Good enough?Let me go check on so then man,
(05:35):
right, can you hear me?Now? Can you hear me?
So every body, Austin has uhrecorded awesome songs throughout his time doing his
work. And I mentioned that you'vebeen around the world. What is the
(05:57):
furthest that you've ever been? Um, you know, I don't really know.
I haven't actually looked on them.Map. But I've went to some
very cool places, you know.I've stood at Stonehenge going. I can't
believe that my redneck, redneck asshas been able to sing his way here.
You know, I've got to seesome beautiful things. I've been in
the Alps just with music. Youknow, it's been Europe, I guess
(06:20):
is the farthest Central America, Canada, a lot of different places. I
don't know, it's been. It'sbeen a wild ride, I'll tell you
that. But I stood at Mozart'sgrave, which was unbelievably fantastic Vienna,
Austria. It was buried basically rightbeside Beethoven. That's where his gravestone is.
(06:46):
It's pretty pretty wild. Hey,yeah, that is freaking awesome.
So what was your very first songthat you ever did? The first song
I ever learned to play was wildwoodFlower. You may know that one over
in Branson. I don't know ifyou do. It's a classic bluegrass song.
(07:08):
My grandfather showed it to me whenI was real little on guitar.
I didn't know it had words untilI was an adult. Nice. So,
do you have a favorite a favoritesong? Man? No? No,
if I did, maybe I wouldn'tspend so much of my time doing
(07:30):
music. I just love it.I love it soferent reasons. You know,
So you were in the front manfor Saving Abl Like, how did
you get into that? That waspretty It was a pretty crazy story.
(07:50):
I was. I was fronting myown three piece band of original music and
a Saving Ables manager Jeff Hanson calledme up and said he just loved the
stuff and wanted to manage me.And I said, you can be my
manager if you can get me theopening spot for Saving Able And they were
playing like three days later in Memphis. After I mentioned this to him and
(08:13):
he goes, okay, he putme on the show. The next morning,
they gave me a call and saidI was their new singer and we
were going on tour in two weeks. And then that was how that story
went. Nice. Yeah, ofcourse, I said, you have a
song that you are just getting readyto put out, aren't you. Pals
(08:39):
a little bit about that song,Well, it is an upbeat rock and
roll song that I wrote with JasonNoel from Saving Abel. You know,
I wrote this song with those guys, but it was a little too edgy
to put out as Saving Able.So now I'm putting it out as a
solo artist because I think it's abadass and I can't wait for you guys
to hear it. It's called money. The first line goes, Who's gonna
(09:05):
give me money? I think everybodycan relate to that. Yeah, how
Yeah, that's cool. Um,So you left them and like after eight
years and it looks like you havebeen like busy, busy, busy and
(09:28):
doing act of a job on doingwhat you love and what you want.
I've been very blessed to make alot of great friends across the country after
all this time and around the world. You know. It's I like,
I like people, especially people thatare like minded like me. You know,
us artist types, we have atendency to stick together, and so
(09:48):
I like talking to people that arein the arts, and you know,
they've just stepped up to help meout when I went solo, which I'm
very beyond grateful for. I wouldn'tto names, but there's too many names
to mention. The National Natural RoadhouseTheater over there in Branson, one of
them Stevie Lee, one of thegood one of the guys that have been
(10:13):
fantastic. So uh, coming uptours like where are you going? Like
where's your next place? You know, I don't even know off the top
of my head, but I havetwenty shows left this year before the end
of the year, so and uh, I know I'll be in a Texas.
I'll be doing the Lone Star Rally, a blowouts camp ground at the
(10:37):
Lone Star Rally in Galveston, Texas. So if anybody's out in that area,
please come out. I'll talk abouta good time. That's a good
time. And uh, Louisiana,we're doing some We're Wisconsin dates being Appleton,
Wisconsin. I'm not I'm not sureoff the top of my head,
but I tell you you can goto Scotty Austin official dot com and I
(10:58):

this violent here to get into thisend. What are you saying so we
(11:20):
don't want to go? That's no, you're okay? I really you guys
talking to me. That's my job. So I'm gonna switch. We're gonna
get a commercial and then I'm gonnastartups because my go is not working well.
(11:43):
And we'll be right back, okaybefore we start doing all the spumish
shit, my good photo, isn'teverybody just I can hear you a lot
clearer right now? The three yearold funnel. Now, I'll try to

(13:46):
good. So I'm trying to starthim over from here and we're going here.
Pull this phone out there. We'rejust gonna have to do a little
bit closely. What up? Ofcourse, we have the biggest star and
(14:11):
the most complications. Isn't that thestory about it? Right? All?
Right? Here we go, youget that? Shut up? Yeah,
there we go. We'll just listenreal closely to you. If we look

I already said that. Jonathan says, let's go, Scottie. Sheila
Lewis said, guy Case and melissays, Hi, guys. Randy Gray says,
hey, y'all. Chris Sharp says, what's up? Scotty Austin So
you might know him? Who knowsyou to your producer on the show.
(15:00):
So fun. That's a really goodguy right there. Yes, yes he
is. Hey Jonathan, thank you. The wife and baby are doing great.
That's why I'm setting outside on theporch and the cold, because I

gonna be hard to do this podcastwith you. Well, I appreciate you,
freezing. I'm glad to talk toyou guys. You know, I
(15:24):
took a liking to you as soonas I met you, and You're good,
good hearted people, and that's thekind of folks I'd like to be
surrounded with. Absolutely. I meantwhen I said about you, you're one
of a kind. And I've nevermet anybody as freaking down the earth and
awesome as you are and where you'vebeen, where you have been. You
(15:46):
know, you don't usually find thatin individuals like that, but we found
that in you, and we justfell in love with your problem. Um,
I'm not gonna try to bring downa minute that you want to talking
about du Michanelle. She's been anumber one fancy. She started this podcast.
She was dagging with cancer last yearat the beginning of this year.
(16:08):
Um, this last week, thedoctor totally, they're gonna be coomfortable.
I'm not going to refer into thisbecause another crime Public TV. Anyway,
So we love you, Chanelle,Thank you for watching. Hey Chanelle,
Oh thanks, she said, welook amazing. She's in Wisconsin. Yeah,
(16:30):
I love Wisconsin. No, Jason, all right, so you got
some dates coming up? We werewhat were you talking about before all this
technology crap? I am so sorry. Now we're bad. I just come
in like a freaking torning. Ihave a hurricane were you talking about twenty
(16:52):
dates about for the end? Ihave about twenty dates left until the end
of the year here on this tourthat I'm doing, and they're all over
the place. I'm going to bein Wisconsin. I'm gonna be in Texas.
Believe there's some Louisiana, Mississippi Republic, Missouri. Yep, a lot
of a lot of cool fun places. We're gonna see you in vot It
(17:15):
because we live pretty close there.I've been love. We don't live pretty
close to there, but you're worthlet's say that you're worth driving. I
like the way Tea thinks. Ilike the way he takes Absolutely, man,
(17:37):
that is so cool. So Imension next show, Uh this Saturday,
I'm going up to Kansas City.Actually this this Saturday, Uh,
in the suburb of Kansas City. It's gonna be a good time. Oh
yeah, absolutely. If there's anybodyclose bill for me to come out,
I'm sure you say hello to mebecause I like, I like meeting people
(17:57):
there. You go, everybody, you hear that, y'all say hi.
So you're gonna be back to uhnice Frow Rockhouse Live next year yep,
yep, We've already We've already gotit worked out on the books. I'm
coming for a two day event again. Some one's just one's just not enough
fun there for me. Oh,I know, right man. He enjoys
(18:19):
you so much. We definitely wantyou to come back longer. Man,
I've kicked so much that weekend yet. Know, hey, rough Sunday,
like you're living a rock star life. You gotta live a rock star live,
right. It wasn't my first Itwasn't my first time. Probably used
(18:44):
to it. Huh, It's notgonna be my last time. That's the
way. That's the way, rightthere. Life's too short to just do
it one time. So y'all justreleased your first seasle Rebel y'all. Yeah,
yeah, I got very lucky. We released Rebel yard earlier here the
Billy Attle cover which everybody loves BillyAttle, and oh yeah, well we
(19:06):
had we had twenty three on Billboardwith that one, which was unbelievably awesome.
I feel very pleased. Yes,And I'm not being partial or anything
because I don't know Billy Idol, but like, I've listened to them both,
and I am a rock and roller, so of course, Scottie Austin's
version is that shit, y'all, like though one of the kind you gotta
(19:30):
hear it, you're gonna love it. Yeah, I agree with these guys.
I agree with it that everything thatyou dine, you can listen to
your music and tell just you putyour heart and so in it, and
you don't find that much anymore likeit used to be. And like whenever
(19:53):
you started and who you are today, you still do you and that is
put your heart and sell it,and that's freaking phenomenal. Well, you
know, I honestly think fame isa facade that lives in people's minds.
You know, it's there's no amountof talent that makes it for being an
asshole, you know, I meanright, truth right? That is so
(20:15):
I'm very blessed to make music andyou know, I just love doing it
and if people like it, I'mI'm honored and thankful, because you know,
that's that's when you know you're you'refamous. Is when you know random
people hate you for no reason atall. Oh, I know, right,
we love that's all you can do? Bring on, maybe bring it
(20:36):
on. It's funny you say thatbecause we were literally just having this conversation
about the haters are go keep famousbecause they're the ones it's going to be
all keeping your name in their mouse. They're like, all right, great,
(21:00):
how many songs have you? Yeah? How many songs have you done?
Like relatively yeah, a bunch. But I've been writing for a long
time. Just a lot of themhaven't been successful. I've had some,
you know, some some that weremore successful than others. You know,
I've done some video game soundtracks thatwent really well for me. And you
(21:21):
know, I did the blood StainedRevolution album with Saving Abel and this new
album I'm doing with the producer MalcolmSpringer, who yes, he's a multi
platinum producer, just unbelievably, that'swhat I edge. Yes, but I
was. I was actually a sessionguitar player for him for for an eternity
before even before I was with SavingAbel. He I just played guitar in
(21:45):
studio on tons of recordings with him, and then I just started singing,
and he can I remember twenty yearsago he told me I was too old
to make it, and then well, surprise, surprise, there's no age
limit on Badass. I'm still inthat Scotty, So just say it though,
(22:17):
So I've got to have to sayit, like enough that Malcolm is
recording me and uh with my newstuff, and you know, I haven't
had a single that hit radio andcharted since twenty sixteen or something was Saving
Abel. We just couldn't get anythingto to strike a chord with people.
(22:37):
And as soon as I went backwith Malcolm producing, instant hit and Malcolm
did this new single coming out Money, which I wrote with Saving Abel and
you know which we worked on itfor probably two years before I recorded it
the song, so we're very proudof it, me and Jason Nol,
we're both very proud of it.Awesome. Yeah, I can't gonna be
(23:00):
awesome. Is this the Solids comingout on Black Friday? That is correct,
It is the song that's coming outon Black Friend and it's a It
is a barn burner, that's whatwe call it. Where I got from,
which it's really upbeating, fast, high energy, good time rock and
roll. And you are awesome athigh end. Although I do have to
(23:26):
say more thing and you were warnedthis is a game podcast. You didn't
take your shot off. I haveto show last time you're well, that's
because I'm getting pudgy. Can weedit that out? I had to say
(23:52):
it. Yeah, everybody waiting.I'm just saying everybody, that's the editor.
Let's later. Well next time, next time, springtime. Well,
i'll take shirt off, we'll rockit out. Man, all right,
I'll post it. I'll post itright before you get there taking his shirt
(24:12):
off. There you go, butyou still fucking rocks. Yeah. And
the song, I'm not gonna gotoo far into it unless you want to.
Because the song that was hard orthat was close to your heart because
of your friend to help you outlife. I know I'm not a dry
(24:37):
I'm okay to talk about anything out. You know. I don't have anything
to hide. I wear my faultson my sleeve. So all right,
we all have passed the judges fromour past. It's what we're doing now
and what we're gonna bring to ourfuture that it's gonna make it. If
I hadn't had a rough past,I couldn't appreciate the good future. You
know, we live and learned. We don't do that. That's exactly what
(25:03):
wisdom is. Yeah, yeah, actually said that song. She loved that
song. It was so special there. What was that song? It's called
one thousand Songs. I've had somepeople trying to get me to rerecord that
one. I have a demo ofit that someone posted on YouTube from years
ago. It was on my bandfrom my band I was in before Saving
(25:23):
Able called Trash the Brand I did. I recorded it. You can you
can find it on YouTube. It'sunder Trash the Brand, or it might
be under Scott Austin. Just Scotta U s t I n okay,
it's called one thousand Songs. Wherethat song come from? Like, well,
(25:44):
I mean, wow, that's along story, but uh, give
me the short one. Well,I had a I was in a bad
way, you know, emotionally, which led to addictions, which happens to
a lot of in my entry andjust a lot of us in general.
Yeah, and I wanted to getclean from drugs, and I had no
(26:07):
money and I couldn't afford it andrehab his expensive. I had a buddy
that was in the military that hewas deployed to Iraq, and as soon
as he came back, he toldme he would get me sober, and
he took me and moved me intothe house with his family, and a
couple of weeks after we were there, his wife left him for a man
(26:30):
she'd been seeing the whole time hewas overseas. Of course, there's two
sides to every story. I onlyknow this one side, and him,
being the military man he was,he doesn't show his emotions very well.
Well, I found a poem hewrote on the back of our cable bill,
and I turned it into that song. So he wrote, he wrote
those lyrics, the verse lyrics, straight from his heart, and I just
(26:56):
put him to a beautiful melody.No. Well, you did a great
job, like you absolutely just phenomenal. Danielle Sharp says, if you know,
if you ever need a guitar player, what its name happened to be
Chris, that might happen, youknow, it's always good to have another
(27:19):
guitarist. Oh yeah, as soonas he knew that you were coming on,
he's like, hey, I knowhim. It was awesome, Jathan,
Thanks Johnathan. That's all that youplayed the kazoo. Yeah, he's
(27:45):
one of my most proficient instruments.Great, suck at it. You couldn't
suck at anything. I think thekazoos all the first instruments I haven't played
in twenty something years, so Idon't even think I could read music anymore,
but I like to prepare, likeI know something about music since my
(28:07):
whole high school career. I knewit. I know. You've heard Teamory
saying and I try to coach himand he looks at me and he's like,
did you kiss? See he doesn't. We'll let you guys in on
something music. The ideas of what'swritten wrong in music only exists in our
(28:30):
hands too. These are just rulesthat someone wrote down in the past.
Right, music is only what youdecide idea is. It's hard and art
the beholder. So no matter whatyou do, somebody's gonna hate it and
somebody might like it. Yeah, that is so true. And this kind
of goes to the conversation we hadn'thad a line party last night. It
(28:51):
kind of goes to the conversation thatwe kind of had yesterday this We had
a Quarta weekend guy that have aleague party and we were doing carry okay,
and he's saying, um Spanish ofcourse. But then this video popped
on after work and it was thesame guy. But I didn't pay attention
to the lyrics at first. Ijust listened to the music, and then
(29:14):
I was like, oh, wait, this isn't English. And so I
looked at him and I was like, you know, this is where music
truly transcends everything, because I didnot realize this is not English. I
am not bilingual at all. Iknow very little Spanish. I can work
in a restaurant with Spanish, that'sit. But I did not realize that
we were not listening to an Englishsong until, like, I actually started
(29:37):
listening to the lyrics. And Ifought with my music history teacher over this.
I failed music history because of it, because I said music was a
universal language, and he said it'scultural and regional, which it is to
a degree. But just my wholethought was explained Michael Jackson. Exactly,
if it's cultural, explained my Jackson, how come the whole world loves him?
(30:03):
Yeah, yeah, because you freakingawesome and it doesn't make people like
a good melody. Yes, yes, that's absolutely yep. I say it
is universal, and yeah, Iget where he would say, yeah,
might come cultural and might come froma cultural and uh standpoint, but in
(30:27):
trances, it's everywhere. You know, it doesn't matter more than others.
But exactly exactly. Music was oneof our first ways of communicating with drums,
you know, with like that's howand it distance we're sending smoke signals,
are playing drums man exactly. Yeah, yeah, Like we need to
(30:52):
let the next town over. No, some ships going down, right,
you gotta watch out for that.Sh That's great. So how do you
see yourself? Like? You know, there's so many ways individuals like yourself.
You know, they see in themselvesas totally different than everybody else.
(31:17):
So who who arre you? Like? Literally? I noticed today, honestly
that I live in a bubble completelyand I'm surrounded by people that kiss my
ass all the time. It's ridiculous. Now, I went out in Nashville
and I'm like, people have regularjobs and stuff, and I've been doing
(31:37):
this so long it's just unique tome. So I felt uncomfortable. Like
we went to Pania, I'm like, I've never been in here before,
I've never walked. I liked it. The food was fantastic, and I'm
like, God, I feel outof place. People were wearing their shirts
tucked in and somehow been very luckyto survive doing this weird ass thing that
(31:57):
I do. I guess so,But I see myself as a loyal husband
and father, I grew up ina broken home and I love my mom,
but you know, I just youknow, my my parents fuddle a
lot when I was growing up.There was always the battles and stuff.
So the uh just shower my childrenwith love. I'm a great daddy,
(32:21):
you know. I think that's whatI'm really born to do. I that
you are, and you know Ifeel you on the whole mom and Dad's
part because I went through the samething growing up. So do you feel
that music as a big part andmaking it? Yeah, you're escaped,
you know absolutely. Well. Imean, you know, I came from
(32:45):
a Christian gospel band growing up,which uh, I mean, you guys
are over there around Branton and soyou know there's a lot of those where
where they teach the kids. Imean, you got little kids that are
just badass. And that's you knowwe start. We started, really we
didn't, that's what we did.We just played bluegrass gospel nine. So
(33:06):
I just sunk more into that whenall that stuff went down, because I
just had an affinity for it andI just was really good at it.
I don't know, some people justare I don't know. My daughter is
my son, he's really good atlike read music, but he doesn't have
that natural groove. My daughter alreadyhad that ship. She's she's like the
TV show comes Home. She's like, oh this is my jam. She's
(33:31):
too. You know we've always seenon one Facebook. But still your kids
are soble and your wife is beautiful. Thank you, thank you. That's
what makes me know I've been successfulin music. I've been able to put
(33:52):
together a family and that that Iloved and they loved me. So that
is my success story right there.I'll just blood. I get to make
music along the way, and thenpeople like you guys give me these positive
comments. I just can't thank youenough for listening and just being as cool
as you are makes my heart warm. Thanks. And that's not the two
beers I just drank either, that'san argain over here either, But no,
(34:20):
I don't really mean that. AndI really appreciate all the love and
warmth that you send my way.And it's it's a live shows. I
mean, you got you came outand you came to both shows, both
nights. That's that's the next level. You know, especially people that you
know do like you, that havean online personality and stuff you you came
out in a town full entertainment andyou watch that's. Oh yeah, absolutely,
(34:43):
man. I have listen like foryears, you know, I love
you, bro, and what youdo is just amazing, like it really
is, and beyond grateful listening toyou and listen to your music help individuals
like myself, you know, becauselike I said earlier, I felt it
(35:05):
come from your heart, yourself, and that right there, man, it
took whatever was in my head andmade it just absolutely wonderful. And I
know that I'm not the only onethat's like that. So just so you
know, that's who we see youas, you're freaking awesome. Well I
(35:28):
don't even have response to that, except I do ask a question. So
if tomorrow was the last of everything, what would you want your wife to
know about you Towards her? Ohmy gosh, she's my everything. She
(35:55):
made me a better person than Iam. I couldn't be a total artist
now for her, because you know, I'm I'd say I'm like everybody else.
But anybody that knows any artist knowswe're highly emotional and we're very depressed
people in general. Yeah, soit's real easy after leaving a national act
like saving Able tell, you know, to want to give up, go
(36:16):
crawling a hole somewhere, but shewouldn't because she stood there beside me.
I was able to fight through andjust get out and start again, you
know, because I mean, that'sthat's not easy. I'm forty years old,
I mean, but that's her strength, her strength and support. She
(36:38):
is. She is my sunlight andI'm the darkness. But I love it.
That's absolutely, that's true. Ican see it. It's amazing what
you can do with that with somebodyby your side. Makes me sad for
people that don't have someone, becauseI am very blassed. I mean,
yes, absolute the same We weretalking earlier about the deep dart pass this
(37:04):
name right here, help me getout of mind. I had a problem
for seven years, a real bigproblems. We talked about this a little
bit and you didn't really get intoit, but you kind of brought that
up at the last show a littlebit. But you hadd some some problems
in your past too, and werelated on that because yes, that that
darkness, it's like it's basically justa passive way of trying to kill yourself,
(37:28):
you know, Yeah, with thesedrugs and darkness and just hating ourselves,
hating who we are, and lettingthe world bring us down when when
there's no need in that. Look, you can't control anything going on around
you. All you can control iswhat's going on your head. And don't
(37:50):
let that get negative anybody that's listeningright now, So you can control that.
You can't control anything else, Butyou have no need to let these
dark thoughts and darkness into your head. Yes, because they grow and they
breath and they grow and they growand they grow. Yes, absolutely absolutely.
And if I will find some music, write your own music, play
(38:13):
some music, you know, man, let it out. You must scream.
Well you need it's a good beatand you get away and trust me,
I do it. Sometimes it feelsgood to just scream and let it
out. Yeah, you're lucky, man, you get the scream and screams.
(38:37):
And that's another thing I like, man, just the way you see
man, it's like you're letting everybit of everything just bam out. Yeah.
I'm a I'm a vocal coaches mapmayor Yeah. I probably they're like,
(38:59):
they're like, that's not the properway to sing. I'm like,
well, I'm the professional, somaybe you should be asking me exactly exactly,
but I burned my voice out prettyquick. But you know you can't
hold back. That's not giving people. But that's not the music that I've
been a part of, right andI'll tell you that. Yeah, and
the music you have to there's onlyone way to do it. That's all
(39:20):
in. You know what song Iwould love to hear from you, even
if it's just karaoke next time youcome to this, see it next year?
Um, stand up and shout byrock star? Stand up? Yes,
yes you yes, Yes, thatwould be bad as what I'm thinking
(39:44):
