Speaker 1 (00:07):
And now it's time for extra corn.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Your host Phil Jones.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
All right, welcome to everybody. Phil Jones with you on
another week of talking to high school football here in
the state of Georgia. I hope you guys are doing well.
Still getting used to this time change, as it is
bright and sunshiny outside our studios here in South Georgia.
I hope everybody's doing well. I want to bring in,
of course, my partner with the show, of course, you know,
(00:40):
or as missus producer of course that I'm talking about, Mazzanni. Matthews, Mizzani.
What's going on?
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Hey Phil, Hey everybody, I see you guys taking it
into comments. Happy Monday, Oh and Happy Saint Patrick's Day.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
Oh that's right. St Patrick's Day. Do you get in
Saint Patty's Day?
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Or I don't really, I don't have any green on it.
I mean bracelet, that's about it. I didn't get pinched today,
so that's good.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
Yeah. I can stand that. You don't really bring that
up on it up in here, you know, come on,
not up in him. I always have an out with
me though I have green eyes.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Okay, yeah, okay, you're born with it, so so.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
Hey, now I got Got Green one hundred percent of
the time. So don't don't come up in here with us.
You might be Irish, feel I might be. I'm sure.
I think I think I have been told that our
ancestry is Irish Scottish nice, which is not all that
in common with a lot of you know, American white people.
I think it's just I think that's kind of sort
(01:40):
of your default ancestry.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
Got you, got you, Okay, so that's yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
Yeah, But I've never been a big Saint Patrick's Day.
I mean, it's yeah, I don't know, these these vacations
or holidays, not vacation holidays, they're just kind of concocted
for making you spend money.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
Okay, I can't see that. I agree with that, and
you spend money year round. But I know a lot
of people are celebrating the like Savannah, and you know
they have a huge Saint Patrick's Day parade all the time. Savannah,
they've been having that pray for a very long time.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
So where they die the river green.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
Yeah see, and I didn't know a lot about that
until the year.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
Yeah, so it's a big deal. And I'm not just
discounting that. Yeah, but I just don't get and listen.
And Valentine's Day is the worst you know what I mean.
I mean that day was literally created by the greeting
card companies. Yeah, I think it's I think that's a fact. Okay,
if I'm mistaken. Anyway, you guys didn't tune in to
(02:36):
hear for that about that. You tuned in to hear
us talk a little high school football on this Monday,
And that's exactly what we're gonna do. Coach Sli's gonna
be joining us at the bottom of the hour. And again, remember,
of course, you guys know or you wouldn't be here
and you start time six o'clock. Guys, do me a
favor if you would be sure to like and share
the show. Let's get the word out, and let's spread
(02:59):
the word get everybody. We want to get our viewership up, Mazzoni.
And now we're talking about that just before we went
on the year, and you know, it's kind of weird.
We have a lot of views after the fact, you know,
we wind up with about three thousand views a week now.
Of course, that pails in comparison to what our live
numbers are during the one and a half hours that
were on the air. But yeah, you know a lot
(03:19):
of people will I know a lot of people that
I know watched the show like at night when they
get home. Yeah, five o'clock was really tough for people. Yeah,
it was.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
I think this six o'clock time where it's better for people,
you know, getting off, but still you know people have
night jobs or yeah, just this is dinner time for
a lot of people. Wh Are you to have a
grocery store trying to pick up something real quick? Right,
So we understand, but check in when you can and
please share.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
Absolutely, yeah, absolutely, we'll definitely want to share the show.
Listen if put some stuff on Twitter. By the way,
over the weekend, if you guys are on Twitter, please
follow me on Twitter. Trying to jack that up a
little bit too, trying to get more exposure on on
my Twitter page on the itg next Twitter page, and
(04:06):
Assani said she's thinking about getting back on Twitter.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
I need to get on Twitter. I hear a lot
of people are on Twitter or x as they call
it now, a lot of communications. So I need to
be on there just for you know, business purposes as well.
It's a it's a nice, you know platform.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
It is for networking, you know, and just sharing information.
You can go the rite of LinkedIn, which of course
I'm on LinkedIn as well. Yeah, yeah, so all that
is great, you know, just to stay connected. But again
I'm really trying to focus on Twitter X. As Mazzangnia reminded,
it is X or Twitter, whichever you prefer. But anyway,
go to my Twitter page, guys at let's see at
(04:44):
field itg next is the page and the reason I
also I bring that up today. Earlier I posted a
actually it was last night. I came up and I
posted a picture of the helmets and I said, hey, guys,
who am I missing? And so many people respond did that.
That was actually on Facebook and Twitter. Yeah, and a
lot of people responded to that and said some good stuff.
(05:05):
I'm hopefully gonna be getting some new helmets sent to us.
I gave out the address. My buddy Matt Helmrick, who
is the head coach of the Peach Tree Ridge Lions,
said he's sending me one.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
Nice Yeah.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
Ashley Henderson, former Bollwood coach now up at Jasper County. Uh,
he's sending me one. And Camden County supposed to be
sending it. Mckeechen and the keych in. So anyway, put
the ward out and we're running out.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
We're running out of space.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
I know we are, right, Yeah, and I wonder.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
What we're going to do in the future with all
those helmets.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
So that's a good question.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Yeah, I see some people checking in.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
Yeah, let's see who all we got in the house.
Missus the producer.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
Yeah, we have Obadiah Farley checking in as usually, he says,
what's going on it TGTCC checking in. We have Roster Sutherland.
He says, hello from Marietta. Michael Bastard, he says, good evening,
Phil and crew and everyone at itg next, Georgia.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Man, Luke Nelson's in the house, Yeah, big Beautiford.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
Yeah, and he's checking it from a baseball game. You
for a baseball game?
Speaker 1 (06:04):
Oh? Hey, man, I do see that. What's the score? Man?
Keep us up to speed on that absolutely.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
Michael Bastard says, go Milton, of course. Andrew Clark Jr.
Valdosta here go cast, Yes, go cast. And then Obadiah
Farley again, he says done. Let me see you here.
Stephen k Win checking in from Trojan Nation and Leesburg.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
Stepen you Stavin, are you at the baseball game, or
or maybe just checking it from Leesburg See County Trojan Nation.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
Yeah, Alan Clinton, He says, give me one surprise team
to watch out for this season in each classification.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
Oh I like that?
Speaker 2 (06:42):
Yeah, so and Ain't like that? And then Rufus says,
so where is Larry Godwin? The cable guy?
Speaker 1 (06:50):
By the way, You notice his name, don't you. Rufus
is demand this is his real name? I got it.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
No, you don't believe that.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
But still that's that's okay. But Rufus. Uh. Rufus first
got introduced to me when I was doing radio. I
did a radio show, sports show, the Afternoon Sports Drive
with Phil Jones. Had I did the Borning Sports Drive
with Phil Jones as well. Anyway, got introduced to Rufus.
I'm trying to remember who did it.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
I think it was mine along Miney Long former Valdosta
walk Hats played by Playgaff for the football team. Anyway,
But yeah, I've got to know Rufus pretty well, and
I've never officially met him. I'd like to.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
He is a big, big Cockwick County Packer fan. Okay, nice,
can we annoint you a number one Packer fan?
Speaker 2 (07:37):
By the way, I don't think so maybe it should
be out.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
It might be, it might need to be. That's why
I was asking Rufus. With the powers invested in me
and Mazani as well, we here by decree to you.
I don't even know what that means. Uh, here by
decree to you. You are the old Cut Counties number
(08:01):
one fan. All right, yes, yes, Rutholeus, yes, yes, Rufous
uh And just for being annoying to the number one fan,
you get absolutely nothing.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
It's up a love on the show. You always welcome
here in your opinion matters here.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
We love you.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
Here absolutely But Alan Quinton back to his state, and
would you like to give a surprise team to watch
out four in each classification this season?
Speaker 1 (08:26):
Yes? Yes, In fact, let's ask well, we'll put it,
you know, to our viewers. If you want to answer
Allen's a impromptu question looking for the surprise team and
every classification this year. Now, you might get that might
be tough for you start getting into uh you know
one A one A Division one, Division two, Yeah, that
kind of thing. But if you want to do it
(08:47):
for every classification, I'll tell you what if you wander
if every classification. That's fine, especially starting to do with
the bigger classification and kind of working our way down
about we do that, you know, and but I do
like that. I do like that.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
Oh but I again, he says, speaking of helmets, you
still didn't reverse a certain helmet. I wonder what helmet
he's talking about.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
I don't know what you mean reverse it.
Speaker 2 (09:12):
I'm trying to see all the helmets that he can see,
because you can't see the.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
Top rou up there, guys.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
But Andrew Watkins says, Darty season opener versus Tombs in
football at Hugh Mill Stadium. Okay, it's another season opener.
We're gonna talk about season openers.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
There are Yeah, you're talking about season openers. Guys, want
to know who's the ones? Why. I'm actually writing a
series of story, well a story, a series on the
best season openers.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
Nice.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
Yeah, and so far I've written the one about the
My opening story was Benedictine coming to Colquood County. It's
going to be just a great football game. Two great
programs that have not really played each other. Yeah, you
gotta go all the way back to it's like the fifties. Oh,
that's a long time well it is, and they were
(10:00):
over the Moultrie Packers, So technically there's never been an
official meeting between Colwood County and Benedictine.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
Okay, make a history of the year.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
Absolutely, So that's gonna be a big one. Of course.
I think the story that should be posted if it's
not out yet, it is my second story. I've already
written it, and that is of course the Buford Milton game. Yeah.
I got some great quotes from coach Ben Reeves at Milton,
got some quotes from Tony wolf the I guess former
(10:32):
athletic director. I'm not share what role Tony plays now
officially within Buford, but he's still very much a coach
to guy. I promise you that he's the guy that
I reach out to we want to do games of
the week up there, really anything that we need from Beuford,
Tony is my contact. He's always done a great, great
job and so helpful in accommodating me. Speaking of that
(10:54):
Beauford Milton opener, it's going to christen that brand news
I said, I was gonna say, the state of the
art stadium. Yeah, he's got everything you need.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
What better place to have like that heavyweight matchup.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
No doubt, right, and it's gonna be quite the venue.
You know, it's almost weird way you said that, it's
almost setting it up for like a couple of like
prize heavyweight. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (11:18):
I'm saying they are both great programs, and I'm like,
what better venue, a fresh new venue to just box
it out.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
Really absolutely, in this corner, you know, coming in and
they combined I don't know what thirty six thousand pounds,
you got the Beauford walls, and then in this corner
you've got the Milton defending two times state champion who
come on now, yeah, the Milton Eagle. So it's basically
(11:46):
Milton has the belt.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
Yeah, they do have the belt right now.
Speaker 1 (11:49):
Yeah, the championship belt Beauford different classifications. So this is
kind of what you would call a I guess what
an unsanctioned fight where they'll fight but there's title on
the line. Yeah, even if the champion loses, his title
is not going anywhere. The belt's not going.
Speaker 2 (12:06):
Anywhere, right, They're not gonna let go on that belt.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
So you got it like that. So anyway, that is
also of course one of the uh, the big openers
to start the season. Another thing I was gonna talk about.
Just again, it's kind of some talking about season openers. Uh,
looking at the coaches, new coaches that we've got a
lot of new coaches with new teams.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
Yeah, I know, we were rolling them off a couple
of weeks ago. You know, every episode we had a
new coach for you. But who do we have this time?
Speaker 1 (12:35):
Well, actually, I'm just you don't want to talk about
you know what you guys think what new coaches for
these first year head coaches, which ones do you think
have the greatest chance of making an impact, the biggest
impact with their football team? You know, I mean you've
got Alan Alan Clak, Adam Klak, I'm sorry, Adam Klak,
(12:57):
who is the new coach at Parkview. Now that's a
great fit. Of course, Adam, along with coach Lye, they're
kind of credited with getting the current in the current
edition of Milton football. They're the ones that are credited
with getting that baby kickstarted because remember Milton had many,
(13:18):
many years of bad, bad football.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
Kind of hard to imagine, really, it is hard to
imagine right now.
Speaker 1 (13:25):
But anyway, so you gotta figure Adam Clack now he's
coming into Parkview sort of a similar situation Parkview. Actually,
I guess it's not. It's actually opposite. Whereas Milton struggled
for years and had nowhere to go but up. Yeah,
Parkview has been a dominant force.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
Would you consider them a bu blood like one of.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
Those absolute okay, one percent? I mean Parkview, big Orange, Jungle, multi.
I don't know how many sty championships they've got under
the belt, but it was a bunch. Jeffran Corp played
there and either more known for his baseball, he was
a of a wide receiver as well. But anyway, park
View has had a great tradition. However, as we saw
(14:06):
last year in our game of the Week between park
View and north Wind it up at Swanee, park View
struggled mightily. And so anyway, now they've not got Adam Clagg.
So I think that's a situation where you've got a
chance for this particular new hire has got a chance
to really make an impact.
Speaker 2 (14:27):
Yeah, and turn this program around, you think fairly quickly.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
I do, okay, because you got all again, you got
all the ingredients there, you got the history, you've got
a solid foundation, you got great support. All of those
things are not going to be lacking. I don't think
the talent, you know, it's going to be lacking. He's
just got to come in there and kind of put things,
start putting things back together.
Speaker 2 (14:48):
Do they have a young team? Did they have a
lot of returners?
Speaker 1 (14:52):
You know, I'm trying to remember because I did. This
is kind of a piggyback and off the story that
I wrote a couple of weeks ago which I talked
about the three coaches. Listen, it really wasn't the top that.
It was just the three coaches that I thought or
three coaches that I thought could come in and make
an impact. Yeah, right away, and Adam Clake was one
of them. Steve Divorceney, who is coming in at Veterans,
(15:15):
I think Steve Divortionney is going to have a chance
to be an impactful coach right away. He's taking over
a Veterans program. This in a great school district. That's
where a lot of the growth is coming in from
at Houston County, meaning the county in Houston County, not
just the house in County Bears, but Houston County High
School and Veterans High School are not that far apart.
They are in that area kind of in the south
(15:37):
end of the highway ninety sixth quarter. They're in that
quarter where they're getting a lot of growth. They're getting
a lot of the growth that's coming in. And Houston
County is one of the fastest growing counties and the
state of George.
Speaker 2 (15:49):
Right, it's a nice place, very nice, very nice. And
you know they have a military air force, a lot
of people coming in from that too.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
Yeah, no question, And so anyway, there's just a lot
of good things going on there. So he's going to
be receiving a lot of that growth into his school
that veterans only has. And so I think you've got
a chance there to turn that program around. Now, as
I mentioned last week, well last year, you know, I
was looking at the top ten toughest schedules in the state.
Speaker 2 (16:22):
And yeah, somebody asked how the schedules come out. Yes, yes,
they are out.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
Yep, they are. And you got to remember, guys, for
the most part, the schedules are simply last year's schedule
with the home teams and away teams flip flop. Yes, Okay,
now there are some there are some.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
Exceptions, yeah, like maybe some non region games maybe different.
Speaker 1 (16:48):
Yeah, like in other words, like Benedictine and Collquick County. Yeah,
they did not play last year. Yeah, cal Quick played
West of Utah, so that's going to be a change.
Benedictine and Callquick County. Yeah okay. So but anyway, Veterans
had the toughest schedule in the state according to my.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
Yeah, we do said that last year, didn't we And
do you think they still have one of the toughest
schedules this year? Yes, okay, anybody else may have like
a tougher schedule.
Speaker 1 (17:14):
That probably not. It's gonna be tough, But I think
coach of Worston is gonna have a lot more talent.
I just think there's a lot of positives, you know,
and I think he's gotta content. I think it was
a Jake Ingram, if I'm not mistaken, was the coach there.
He did a great job. He's a good coach. Just
tough situation. That's the thing about a county, you know,
(17:35):
where you've got multiple schools, You're gonna have some schools
that do well. Yeah, some were the talent, you know,
for whatever reason, dilutes in this particular season. And that's
what's happened there at Houston County.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
Okay, so he could definitely, you know, be there to
help rebuild and everything like that and really mold and
shape that talent that's coming.
Speaker 1 (17:58):
Up the slowly. Absolutely. Hey, I do want to make
an announcment for all you folks that are excited about
March Madness. Okay, so March Madness. I do want to
pass along my buddy, doctor Mike McCartney's a great friend
of mine. He's my dentist, and I want to talk
(18:19):
to you guys real quick. So Mike McCartney, my buddy
eight old dental associates. All right, they have a fundraiser
where they're taking you can join the cc A Eagle
Challenge and play ESPN's men's tournament. It just the bracket, Okay,
you pay twenty five dollars and you can mendmo doctor Mike,
(18:41):
and you can pay. You can fill out your bracket
and win some money. Okay, yeah, are you playing the bracket?
Are you doing a bracket for March Madness?
Speaker 2 (18:50):
No, I've never done the bracket Astley's just watch it,
but I may have to give it a try this time.
Speaker 1 (18:56):
You should, you should, and this is for a good cause, obviously,
it's uh, I believe it's Cook, Mike, you help me
out here?
Speaker 3 (19:03):
Is it?
Speaker 1 (19:03):
Is it Cornerstone Christian Academy or Cook Christian Academy? Anyway,
Christian Academy school up there and Cook, you know. And
they have to write raise their funds, uh, you know
obviously privately. Yeah, and so anyway, this is one of
the things that they're doing, is they're trying to raise
some money. But listen, most everybody fills out of bracket.
That is fun.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
Yeah, that's a unique fund raiser. I've never heard anybody
fund reason like that.
Speaker 1 (19:24):
Yep, it is very unique. It's one of the many
things that they try to do to, you know, bring
in money for these kids. And the thing about it,
you can fill out a bracket and know nothing about
college basketball, you know, and the truth is you're gonna
have upsets. It's fun to have your bracket, whereas you
otherwise would care nothing about these games on TV, you know,
(19:48):
and then suddenly you can get your bracket now and look, said,
wait a minute, who did I pick in this game?
It's fifty to fifty chance every game, right, yeah it is.
And some people pick by who's got, you know, the
best uniform? We're looking uniform.
Speaker 2 (20:00):
Okay, that's something I would do.
Speaker 1 (20:02):
Yeah, there was a girl a couple of years ago.
I can't remember where was that, but she was playing
in a national tournament, the ESPN Challenge where it was
everybody pitching in and you know, everybody could win, you know,
a lot of money. Yeah, and uh, darnish, she didn't win.
It says she knew nothing about college basketball and said
(20:23):
she asked how she made her picks was by who
had the best leaguing uniform.
Speaker 2 (20:27):
Oh, I may give that a try.
Speaker 1 (20:28):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
I may give that a try, and hopefully I'll win
to like her.
Speaker 1 (20:31):
Yep. So anyway, it is the the CCA Eagle Challenge
twenty twenty five. So this is how you do it.
I'm just trying to give you guys some information based
on my brother, doctor Mike.
Speaker 2 (20:45):
If you think you would make a post about it
so people will know, or drop it in the comments.
Speaker 1 (20:52):
Let's see. So you can. If you have any questions,
doctor Mike, Uh, you can go to w w WuW
dot c c a adel dot com. W w W
dot c c a adel dot com. You can find
(21:12):
out more about the you can enter the bracket the challenge. There,
you can pay your money, and there you go.
Speaker 2 (21:19):
Yes, I just put the link in the Okay, it
looks like you did it as well. Where I put
the link in the comments? Yes, thank you, Okay, because
I would remember that.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
So this way you can have some fun with it.
You can. It goes to a great cause. And again, guys,
if you otherwise have no business knowing anything about college basketball,
or you wouldn't have any interest in watching these games,
now you do. Yeah, you can go to your little
and listen again. Flip a coin, which team wins. Go
(21:52):
with the higher seed to start off with or the
lower seed as it is. Kay, if you've got a
one versus sixteen, do not pick the number sixteen. T
that bad? We go pick the number one, pick the
number two, the number three. You know, when you get
into eight versus seven, well good luck, yeah, fi flip
a goin really, but after that then you know you're
(22:12):
gonna have some upset. You gotta remember that. But anyway,
that's enough about that, all right?
Speaker 2 (22:17):
Read some of these comments. Yeah, Roster Sutherland, he says,
Marietta at Gainsville, this will be a tough opener for
the new regime at Marietta. But I look for improvement
across the board. How do you feel about that?
Speaker 1 (22:29):
Wow, that is a great one. Who's that Rosser? So
Marietta are they going to Gainesville Rosser or are you
guys Hostingville? Yeah, so gonna be going to Gainesville. That's
gonna be tough. Of course, you've got you got the
new coach, Coach Duke, who come from Edgewater. Cameron Duke.
(22:58):
There we go ahead. Took me a second. Cameron Duke.
He's the new head coach at Marietta. He came from
Edgewater of Tampa. I believe it is no Orlando, and
he has taken Edgewater to multiple state finals. I think
they've won one. And anyway, he's gonna be a good fit.
But this is gonna be the true test. Yeah, because
(23:19):
Gainesville is gonna be really good this year.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
I see here we have an interesting comment by Leon
Joseph Caesar. He says, I think Leon Joseph Caesar, Lord,
that's interesting. I think Valdosta will be a sleeper team
this year. And I've heard this a little bit, you know,
And I mean you can't really blame people for thinking that.
For I believe this is like the second year in
the row we've made it to the what first or
(23:44):
second round of the playoffs and couldn't make it past there.
And then also we lost I'm not gonna say we lost.
But coach Gollwin, congratulations to him. You know, he had
a head coach position I want to believe. I want
to say in Calhoun. So, but he was a great,
great coach at Valdosta. So I'm interested to see who
we're going to have to fill his spot.
Speaker 1 (24:04):
Now, what position did he coach?
Speaker 2 (24:06):
I want to say he was part OC. He was
offensive coach, but also I don't think he was the
I think he shared the position of OC with someone else.
Speaker 1 (24:15):
Okay, very good.
Speaker 2 (24:17):
So yeah, I want to see how Valdosta does with
these changes this year.
Speaker 1 (24:20):
Yeah, so Valdosta is going to have a pretty easy
front part front part of their schedule.
Speaker 2 (24:26):
Yeah, can you tell us a little bit about their schedules?
Speaker 1 (24:28):
You know what, I think they opened with Tucker. They
opened with Tucker last year, so I'm assuming that's going
to be the same opener this year. That will be
a piece of cake.
Speaker 2 (24:37):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (24:38):
Unfortunately, Tucker is merely a shelle of their former self.
Tucker used to be a really good football team, but again.
Their program is going downhill. So Valdosta annihilated him last year.
I think they'll did the same thing again this year.
So Michael Lauta says, Hey, feel not sure if I
heard your question, but how long would it be until
(24:58):
Rush gets back in the coaching You know? I was
supposed to I talked to coach on last Friday. I'm
supposed to talk to him this week. I hope to
have him on the show. It's not gonna happen this week, unfortunately,
but I'm wanna shoot for next week, trying to get
Rush props here on the show to find out what's
going on which coach?
Speaker 2 (25:16):
So cool?
Speaker 1 (25:17):
Oh listen, you want to talk about viewers coming out
of the wood woodwork that everybody loves to hear what Rush.
Rush is kind of like the train wreck, you know,
he would just people just want to find out what's
going on with him. Whether you love him or hate him,
one thing you cannot deny. The guy is a heck
of a football ger.
Speaker 2 (25:32):
He is, he really is. I see Jose Bidia checking in.
He says, hello, tuning in late, mister Philimozani, and we
were just talking about you.
Speaker 1 (25:40):
We were show. Yes, we were your ears were ringing?
I'm sure we were wondering about you, Jose Badilla. Glad
to see you here in the house.
Speaker 2 (25:48):
Yes, and we also have coach Sli on the line.
Speaker 1 (25:51):
All right, so without further ado, let's go to the
man of the hour. He is the former athletic director
of the militant E football team and uh he joined
us every week here on the show and he's with
us now. Coach, what's going on? So coach live.
Speaker 3 (26:07):
Hey, good evening you guys, doing well? Good about you,
buddy ya doing good, doing good out the to Thattic
activities over up here.
Speaker 1 (26:14):
You know, say, that's pretty rough, man, God bless our
our friends in Alabama and Mississippi. And they really call
uh caught it, didn't they?
Speaker 3 (26:22):
Yes, it's it's it's crazy, but uh just prayway to
recover as well. And you know it's just that time
of year unfortunately.
Speaker 1 (26:29):
Absolutely tornado season is upon us. All right. Guys, if
you gotta again got a comment that you got for
a coach Sly or if you just want to chime
in and talk with us, we'd love to hear from
you off of your comment in the comments section. So
a couple of things. Let's start off with talking about
these best week one openers. Sly Of course, you guys
(26:51):
are gonna be involved in one of the big ones
up there at UH at Beuford. Here's another question though,
that I want to kind of meld in with these
best week one openers. And again I've got a story
that's coming out, should be this week on this very topic.
There's some big quarterback shoes to fill this year. Coach
(27:13):
Slye knows one of them very well in Luke Nicol
at Milton who was off to the University of Miami.
So bear with me. You've got lut Nickel at Milton.
You've got Juju, yeah, I know who Ju is. You
got Juju over at Carrollton. You've got Weston Bryan at
(27:37):
Lee County who's going to be taking his spot. And
you've got a J. Hill yes, yes, at Houston County.
Speaking of Houston County.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
And they all their teams the really big seasons.
Speaker 1 (27:50):
Yeah, yeah, they were, they were. They were multiple year starters.
Coach sly was was Luke Nickel a four year starter
or what.
Speaker 3 (27:59):
Nickel was a three year started for us? He played
a little bit as a freshman, played linebacker up to
his freshman year. Basically it looked over Wow, Okay, had
a little wrist injury as a freshman, played a little
ball for US, and then obviously a three year starter,
and then had a hucket career.
Speaker 1 (28:17):
He really did.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
I would never thought that started out as a linebacker.
Speaker 1 (28:20):
You know what. And when I first when when Sly
first said that, I was like, wow, that's kind of surprising.
But you know what, I've told this story many times.
The first game that I really saw Luke was the
Calkwood County game. I guess that would have been two
years ago, slide. That would have been what the twenty
(28:42):
twenty two season.
Speaker 3 (28:43):
That was the twenty three season, okay, twenty.
Speaker 1 (28:46):
Three seasons, So Luke, that was my first time really
seeing Luke. And let me tell you, that was the
game that you guys were behind right, fly behind by
ten twice. YEP, got down early, We're down eight, and
Luke Nickel single handedly took that game, put it on
his shoulders, took that team and he did it. And
(29:08):
here's kind of what I'm getting to about the linebacker,
you know thing. He started running the football wow, and
it was just boom, bang, crash, I mean he was
running over corners and taking on linebackers, and I just
remember thinking, then, Wow, what a player. That was my
(29:29):
first and of course would wind up being the lasting
impression of Luke Nickel. Okay, So it doesn't surprise me
now that I hear he was a linebacker in his
early days. Yeah, because you can see that linebacker mentality
in him when he starts running the football. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (29:43):
And I wonder if, like a question that made me
think of is like, do you think is good for
some of these players to be versatile in some of
these positions. I mean not only to you know, be
able to enhance the game, but also later as they
move on to like collegiate levels and professional does that
make them more of a pick to some teams.
Speaker 1 (30:03):
It's like Travis Hunter. You know, he wrote a story
on Travis about that very thing. You know, he obviously
came up through high school and when he was at
Jackson State he was a played both sides. In fact,
Jackson State. I mean it's like at Collins. See, he
never came off the field sly. I promise you we're
gonna get you in here, buddy. So in fact, why
don't we turn it over to you. What do you
(30:23):
think I mean? I think, to answer Mazzani's question, it
is great to be a have to be able to
play basically offense, defense, special teams. What are your thoughts?
Speaker 3 (30:35):
Yeah, great question, Mazzoni. I think you know. I was
a firm believer and you know, the kids play a
certain position. That's it, you know, most of my career,
and when coach Klack out to our school, he made
it mandatory to be two way players, so we actually
we actually start that in the spring, and then Coach
Brees took it over where you're gonna play two positions
every spring and into the summer. Now it could be
(30:56):
two on the same side of the ball, it could
be offense defense. But you're going to get multiple shots
of playing positions because there's only one quarterback, let's face
on the field right at one time. Right, And if
you want to try to play something else and be
a backup, you can do that, or play receiver, or
play a safety, or maybe just learn the game better, right.
I think you know my coaching career, I coached one
of the backs for years, but when I first started,
(31:18):
I coached old line and D line, and it taught
me so much about the game that I think kids
need to learn that about the game, both sides of
the ball, reading coverages, reading fronts right. So to your
appointment on it, it's a great point. I think it's important.
So I'm one hundred percent big proponent of that.
Speaker 1 (31:33):
Okay, yeah, absolutely, So we again talking about the season
openers as well as kind of melting in these quarterbacks
that are going to have to be replaced. So Milton
Beauford going to be a great game. Again, it will
be the debut of Lowton nichols replacement. And guys, don't
(31:57):
don't misunderstand. I'm not asking Slot to come on here
and try because he didn't have the crystal ball. And
so that's not really the point of this, but I
do think it is, you know, worth talking about and wondering.
I can tell you. And again, my story is going
to be coming out this week about this very thing
that we're talking about now, so kind of a lead
in from the story that you guys can read about.
(32:18):
But I know with Milton, you got a couple of
guys both transferring in this past off season, one coming
from Saint Thomas Aquinas and it's kind of a rarity
you don't see a lot of guys leaving Saint Thomas
Aquinas to go to another school. But that's Derek Baker
who's coming in from Saint Thomas. He is quite the specimen,
by the way. And then you've got a gentleman coming
(32:41):
in from Milwaukee, Milwaukee Science Academy of Sciences. I think
it's the school, and he's a good looking athlete his
name excuse me right now, But it looks like both
of these young men will have a chance. By the way,
I got some quotes from Milton's head football coach Ben Reeves,
which you guys can read about in my story coming
(33:01):
up again that'll be released this week part of our newsletter.
And so it's uh, pretty interesting what coach Reeve said
basically said, you know what, I'm kind of paraphrasing, It's
gonna be fun watching these two guys battle it out. Yea.
So it's a win win situation. Both these young men
are very good, highly being highly recruited, so I don't
think Milton can go wrong with either one. It's gonna
(33:23):
be interesting to see if they all platoon, if maybe
you've got two great quarterbacks and I don't know, maybe
coach Reeves, you know, wants to play in both. So
I will ask you, can you give us any insight
there as to what ree coach Reeves may be thinking
in terms of platooning or not, or does he want
to kind of settle on the one guy.
Speaker 3 (33:44):
Well, first, first of the young man from Milwaukee's brayln Are,
thank you yeah, And then you said Derek Baker's oh,
the young man.
Speaker 1 (33:53):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (33:53):
You know, everyone has different schools of thought, you know,
Coach Reeves, Coach Jackson. I'm not sure if they believe
in that. I always heard this back in the day.
If you have two quarterbacks, you don't have one, right,
so you've got to have somebody try to start. But
they're both athletic, they're both great quarterbacks. They both seem
like great leaders. I'll tell you I told you yeah,
(34:14):
you and I talked Phil. I met Derek one time,
like a week ago when I was walking the track
and laps in Yep, the first time I met. I
haven't met Braklin yet. So I'll see them probably more
towards the spring when we get out there in practice, right,
So we'll see how it goes. But to your point,
it's gonna be a competitive period for sure. The OTAs
summer will be huge for US seven on seven's and
(34:34):
then you know, the end of the day, Phil, I
think Amazzoni the the kid who has the best leadership
is if you don't want to start, because at the
end of the day, that's the first That's the biggest
skill I have to have. You look at our quarterbacks,
you know, you look at Yates and eighteen when he
want to stay championship, and you look at Luke the
last two years win to stay championsis both those kids
had great leadership skills besides everything else. I think that's
(34:56):
so truly important.
Speaker 1 (35:00):
Of course, another great season over it's gonna Benedictine taking
on Colwood County. Here you don't have new quarterbacks, but
what you do have is a couple of quarterbacks that
are coming back from injury. Stephen Cannon coming back for Benedictine. Yeah,
(35:21):
he went out last year. They had to go to
the back and really changed that whole season.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
Yeah, Well, did he have that injury pretty early in
the season or was that like.
Speaker 1 (35:29):
Midway midway through the season. It happened against Where County,
a team that they were beating up on really well.
And after he went out, Stephen Cannon did for Benedictine.
They all went downhill were County came right back, you know,
was able to shut down Benedictine's offense. And with a
backup quarterback, unproven young man. And uh, that was the situation, man,
(35:52):
where there was that It made all the difference in
the world when that quarterback, Stephen Cannon went out, Yeah,
made all the difference. Uh. And then on the other side,
you've got Cockwood County Steven and somebody helped me out
with his name, you Cockkork County fans. It's a deal
where they were had a true freshman quarterback. He went
down with an injury and missed a good bit of
(36:13):
the season. He'll be back full strength. So you've got
two quarterbacks coming back from injury and so Colkork County
should be fine, Benedictine should be fine. That's gonna make
for a great open season opener at the hog Pen.
Speaker 2 (36:27):
Yeah, I suppos say they're gonna be at home. Maybe
that home field advantage might help, don't.
Speaker 1 (36:31):
You know what, But uh, I want to go back
for a second of the Milton game. So that's gonna
be open. Obviously, the opening of the brand new stadium
at Beauford and Slide, that's gotten to be so exciting
to bring the kids in there. There's gonna be a
lot of pomp and circumstance, and of course that all
that's gonna go away when kickoff happens, but still great
(36:51):
to open up a venue like Beauford and be a
part of that first game ever there.
Speaker 3 (36:58):
Oh yeah, First off, it's a story program and we
respect coach a lot and what he does up there.
Last year's game was a battle. Unfortunately the rank came
in heard it for the fans, but it was a
great game and look at their loaded This year, we're
definitely going in there as the quote unquote underdogs, and
that's fine. We embraced that and it's gonna be rake.
The open up a brand new facility, great to have
(37:18):
you know where where if you guys cover whatever covers,
it'll be great to have that game covered. And you
know it's funny, you got to be uncomfortable, right, need
to grow, right, So let let's let a cult more early, right,
Let's go get a cultle early and grow early. So
that's kind of what coach Reeves philosophy is I love
it and we're embracing it. People think we're crazy, but
we we're loving it.
Speaker 2 (37:39):
Well, it's proven to help you all this far, you know.
But I did want to mention a question for you,
coach that Obadiah pose. He says, if you had to
pick a team, what team do you think would give
Milton a run for their money?
Speaker 3 (37:54):
Oh? This year coming up? So we're so young everybody,
you know, but die a great question. I mean, we're
so young this year, last year'll be I'll be honestly,
not be cocky. It'd be hard to pick a couple
of teams like Lee, right youfor right, for sure you're
putting those categories.
Speaker 1 (38:13):
You know.
Speaker 3 (38:13):
Riles always gives you a game because the rival. But
this year I think we're gonna get everybody's best game again.
And we're young, and we'll see how we grow. You know,
growing pains hurt for a reason because they're growing pains, right,
so hopefully we have a lot of them. But that's
a great question I think right now, to be purely honest,
not just coach talk. We're gonna be young in a
lot of spots and it's gonna take some time to
come together, whether it's early and we surprise people other week,
(38:36):
take some lumps and start off going on whatever we'll see.
So it's a great questions.
Speaker 1 (38:41):
Turn our attention to Carrollton and who replaces Juju?
Speaker 2 (38:47):
Yeah, some big shoes right there?
Speaker 1 (38:49):
Can you listen big shoes for more than one reason?
You know? Obviously, Juju was one of the more heralded
quarterbacks come out of the state of Georgia. I think
Juju single handedly affected, really affected the whole ni L situation. True. Now, yeah,
(39:10):
now let's step back for a second, and I'm not
necessar talking about so. So n i L at the
high school level has not taken off. I think like
a lot of people thought that it would. Yeah, the
exception being players like Juju, who, of course has become
a you know, you and I were talking about before
the show, Juju is a national brand.
Speaker 2 (39:30):
Yeah he is.
Speaker 1 (39:31):
Yeah, he's he's Carrollton's quarter or what was Carrollton's quarterback? Uh?
He was arguably the state's best quarterback. I personally think
that that was is Luke nickel Man. I'm not saying
it because slides on the show. I really believe that. Yeah, However, Now,
I don't think anybody was any more marketable or did
a good job, better job of marketing themselves. Yeah, that's Julian,
(39:54):
Juju Louis.
Speaker 2 (39:55):
What are your aspect to it as well? You know
with social media and being able to market your stuff
as a whole brand, that plays a big part into it.
And I he was, he was a great quarterback, and
I'm excited to see he does that Colorado correct.
Speaker 1 (40:08):
That's right?
Speaker 2 (40:09):
Yes, So I wonder who's gonna fill his shoes? And
then also with that being said, like will they have
a smooth transition for QB? You know with a not
even just Ju Louis at Carrollton, you know who's filling
his shoes, but all of these other teams, you know,
Luke Nickel, you said AJ, Wilson, West and Bryant, all
of these schools, who like is that transition gonna be
smooth for the QB?
Speaker 1 (40:29):
Well, so we have to say you one by one obviously,
I think, as we mentioned earlier, Luke Nickel, I think
you know him going. I think you got two, as
we mentioned earlier, two solid young quarterbacks coming in the
gentleman from uh from Steven, from say Thomas Aquinas. Yes,
(40:51):
he was not the primary quarterback last year, okay, but
he has seen plenty of playing time before. Okay. Now,
the Bryce Albritton I believe it's his name or Braylan,
I'm sorry, Brayley and Albretton coming in from the Milwaukee
Academy of Sciences. He was their primary premier quarterback and
he did put up some big time numbers. So I
(41:13):
think from experience, you've got the Albretton kid, who's probably
just based on experience, has got the edge right now.
But when you look at who looks better at getting
off the bus, I think it's the Baker kid from
Saint Thomas Aquinas. I predict he's gonna get the nod.
But again, I don't know a thing. I'm just this
is just Field going off his hunch. But we're gonna see.
(41:35):
And again, as I mentioned earlier, guys, you can check
out my story that I wrote about this. It'll be
coming out in our newsletter this week, I think, and
if not this week, will be next week. But I
talk about and I talked to coach Ben Reeves, who,
of course Slide knows very well, and coach retaid a
lot of interesting things to say about that. But moving
to Juju real quick. Juju so at Carrollton there, I
(41:56):
think it is a little more direct as far as
who's going to be filling in and taking over rather
for Juju. Lewis a Carrollton do you fly? Yeah, Well,
let's let's talk about it slide. Do you know who
I'm talking about and let's put it out to our viewers.
Do you guys know who I'm talking about?
Speaker 3 (42:15):
Well? I know they had a junior or sophomore behind him.
Was there a transfer I know about? It was one
of those two kids in the battle.
Speaker 1 (42:20):
Yeah, I think it well. I think if you remember
last year when Juju went out, Remember Juju went out?
Speaker 2 (42:26):
Yes, Stephen k Winn just mentioned. He says the backup
at Carlton played very well last season when Juju was injured.
Speaker 1 (42:32):
Dylan Bishop is his name. Yeah, he came in and
Carleton did not miss a beat that In fact, he
came in I believe in the playoff game. Yeah, and
it was it was against he'll Grove quarterfinal matchup against
he'll Grove. Dylan Bishop comes in, he goes ten to
(42:53):
fourteen for one hundred and twenty three yards and three touchdowns.
So there you go. Any concerns about who gonna be
replacing Juji, no worries Dylan Bishop. It's his job. He'll
be the signal caller for Carrollton this year, so for
at least this year. Yeah, everything's cool.
Speaker 2 (43:16):
Okay, smooth selling. So I guess that's a smooth transition
we can count on.
Speaker 1 (43:19):
Yeah, I think it's not your thoughts on the line, Armazani.
Speaker 3 (43:25):
I agree. I think that that's the junior I was
talking about it. I agree, he did a great job
last year and he's gonna coming battle tested on a
big stage, which will help them for sure being such
a nationally relevant program. You know what you got to
think about, Sumazani, as as I'm talking think about kind
of this is you don't replace. You know, you're not
replacing Lake. We're not replacing Luke because there's only one Luke.
(43:46):
You're not replacing Juju. There's only one Juju. You're replaced
in a quarterback position, right with the best guy in
your squad, and you've got to have the personnel around
him to rally right. I think people forget about that.
I know Phil understands this as well, Like you just
can't when you have a kid that's that special lebit,
even like Western Brian, you're not replacing that that animal
down there. I'm sorry, I gotta say he's a piece.
(44:07):
You're not replacing him. I mean, I don't, I don't think.
I don't think there's one. There's anymore. Let's have some
chemical lab in the back of down in their league
county where to pumping out Western Brian's. I don't think
you're gonna get one like him. So I think it's
replacing that quarterback position with the best person you have,
with the athletes you have around.
Speaker 2 (44:25):
Okay, I like that.
Speaker 1 (44:26):
Wow, guys, if you think about it and listen, we're
just scratching the surface. Okay, you've got the young man
trying to think spruit sproul Or and somebody helped me out.
The New Hampstead quarterbacks. You don't turn about.
Speaker 3 (44:46):
I do. But I'm trying to look his name as
we talk right now.
Speaker 1 (44:48):
Yeah, I want to say it was real. I'm gonna
butcher the name of us. I can see it, but
I can't pronounce his name. But anyway, he was a
great quarterback and really unherited because I think New Hampstead
is not that big, high profile team, but that young
man arguably you know I mentioned for the top four
(45:10):
ju Ju Luke, A. J. Hill who were about to
talk about next and Weston Bryn. Those are your big four.
And then you've got this young man from New Hampstead
who sly is about to give us the name, and
I think you know, there's probably he and a couple
of more that could arguably be considered as that number
(45:32):
five top quarterback.
Speaker 2 (45:36):
And the one from New Hampstead last year was his
last year. Is he going somewhere?
Speaker 1 (45:40):
Yeah, he's he graduated and he signed with somebody. But
it's like, you got that yet, is it? Is it right?
Speaker 3 (45:48):
Sean? Is that him?
Speaker 1 (45:52):
You know? Russian? Well, I guess it is. I'm sorry
I didn't thing it was his first name. Yeah, you're right, That'sly.
To my bed, that's it.
Speaker 2 (46:01):
Yep, set again, Rashaan Truelle. I hope I'm saying his name?
Speaker 1 (46:06):
Are you e ll right?
Speaker 3 (46:07):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (46:08):
Yeah? Excuse me? Yeah, that's him. So great quarterback. Now
a lot of people may say, well I don't remember him. Well,
let me tell you, yo, man three four ton of yards,
really good quarterback. But again he's playing in New Hampstead. Yeah,
we don't talk about new Hampstead a lot.
Speaker 2 (46:23):
Okay, Yeah, I don't remember talking about new Hampstead a
lot either this year. But they say he's a standout quarterback.
He said a g h A single game passing record
was six hundred and thirty five yards in a game
against Perry.
Speaker 1 (46:39):
Wow, I remember that, he sure did. So we had
two big record setting games last year. You had that one.
Speaker 2 (46:46):
What was that totally in that total was six hundred
and thirty five yards.
Speaker 1 (46:52):
Think about that, guys, I mean that's all a ton,
that's six football fields.
Speaker 2 (46:56):
Yeah, and the previous record was five hundred and ninety five. Okay,
so he broke that ballo you know a good minute.
Speaker 1 (47:02):
Was that Juju that had the previous record or I
don't know who, so anyway, so you had that and
then remember we had time would get from Coffee ye
who ran for over seven hundred yards in a single game. Yes,
So we had two massive performances last year, one passing,
(47:26):
one rushing. And again, guys, I just think last year
was a special year for these individual achievements, especially again
going back to quarterback. I don't remember them being a
year where we had so many impact, high impact quarterbacks. Yeah,
as we did last year. That's true.
Speaker 2 (47:45):
I mean just so many standout performances and players, and
I feel like now more than a time, like not
more than ever. You have more talent coming up through
the rings, you know, more starters as freshmen and just
younger kids. So I'm excited to see what comes out
of all of that.
Speaker 1 (48:03):
Real quick chance to acknowledge our sponsors of the show,
big shout out to our friends at Pepsi Cola Pepsi
couldn't do it without you. He has all the Pepsi
we can drink every month and we do appreciate them. Also,
Doctor Kevin Collins the Houston Clinic. Guys, if you basically
if you live in southern Georgia anywhere south of Macon,
(48:26):
Dr Kevin Collins and the Houston Clinic, you guys know
the name. I mean that they are the premier organization
when it comes to orthopedic surgery and doctor Collins he's
a friend of mine, but he's also a standout physician
and surgeon. So remember doctor Kevincollins Kevin Collins, MD dot com.
(48:48):
If you have anything you need knee replacement, need surgery,
you have something bothering. You make an appointment to see
doctor Kevin Collins. You'll be thanking me for it, promise you.
All right, So we move on, and uh, so we've
talked about two quarterbacks. We've talked about Juju and Liu,
who I think are the two biggest quarterbacks in the state. Yeah,
let's talk about aj Heel at Houston County. So slid
(49:12):
you kept up with him. I'm sure, big tall drink
of water A. J. Hill is.
Speaker 3 (49:18):
Yeah, he's pretty good, it's pretty good. Yeah, he's uh,
he's he's more elusive and think he is too, as
tall as he is, very elusive, but a good, good arm,
good quarterback man through what almost thirty four yards this
past year, I think forty four touchdowns something like that. Yeah, yeah,
just crazy, crazy numbers he put up as well. And uh,
(49:40):
like I said, he's he's Like I think you're right, Phil,
He's definitely the top four for sure.
Speaker 1 (49:44):
So Mazani and then you want to add about aj Heel.
He is now at Memphis. He has a chance to
step in and be the starting quarterback for the Tigers.
Speaker 2 (49:54):
Yeah, that is what I was about to ask one
of you, Like, where is he going to be at now.
But you just mentioned Memphis, so that's exciting.
Speaker 1 (50:02):
So after talking with Jeremy Edwards, the head coach of
the Houston County Bears, and let me tell you, you want
to talk about a guy and again goes back to
high impact quarterbacks. Guys, Listen, I've always said I'm a
big believer you go as far as your quarterback will.
Speaker 2 (50:17):
Take your I mean, and you're you've been proven correct
many times, especially throughout this past season. I mean, you
just mentioned Benedictine and what happened to them based off
their quarterback.
Speaker 1 (50:28):
There you go. Yeah, so it's like you agree with
that one hundred percent.
Speaker 3 (50:33):
It goes through the quarterback, no doubt. He's got to
stay upright, and if he stays healthy and he's he's
a special kid, you go as far as he goes.
Speaker 1 (50:41):
Listen, A roster like Milton okay, I mean absolutely loaded
with talent. I mean, my gosh, you got three tight
ends that are Division one. I mean it's hard your
hard press to find a tight end that's heading to
you know what I mean, he's heading to college for
on scholarship. Mills has got three of them, may have
(51:03):
more slim am I am I right on there?
Speaker 3 (51:06):
Yeah, we had three, both of now two are in
college right now, and then having kids rogen junior with
over probably twenty offers right.
Speaker 1 (51:13):
Now, I believe.
Speaker 2 (51:15):
Yeah, that's crazy.
Speaker 1 (51:17):
So the point I'm making, go ahead, I'm sorry, No,
he's a true six'.
Speaker 3 (51:20):
FIVE i think now he's like now he's like two thirty, Believe, yeah,
wow looks.
Speaker 1 (51:26):
Great so the point being though that you may want to, say, well,
gosh feel in this, case you, know If Luke nichol wasn't,
there they'd be, okay and they may, be they probably.
Would BUT i, again AS i mentioned a few minutes,
ago after Seeing Luke nickel in that Call quick game
a couple of years, AGO i was a believer that
(51:49):
young man put the team on his. BACK i don't
think he had to do that necessarily the past that,
WELL i don't want to say that because HE i
mean he. Did he basically is a guy that takes
the game. Over, YEAH i think in the in The
Lee county, game you know that we were up there
at we Saw milton get out to a big early.
Lead Lee county on the again the back Of Weston. Bryn,
(52:11):
YEAH i think that's kind of the big monster that
you know that Coach sly was talking about. Earlier, yeah
when he takes off of that long tem and he
just kind of took over that. Game, however then you
Have Luke nickel who settles his guys, down he comes
back and he kind of retakes everything back.
Speaker 2 (52:28):
Over you need a quarterback like, that you really, Do,
yeah you really.
Speaker 1 (52:32):
Do so, anyway those are the kind of guys that
are true difference. Makers so we go back to a
J hill talking to coach J. Edwards you got a
couple of guys, There great Dun lamp who is a
junior Sophomore Ryan. MAXWELL i know you. Haven't you've never
heard of, them and there's a reason for. That they
didn't play much last. Year so we got two guys
kind of Like milton that are gonna battle it. Out
(52:53):
but these two guys At Housing county not quite the fan,
fare not quite the exposure that you got At meltonkay
just saying those two guys At melton you can't go.
Wrong but At Housing, COUNTY i don't. Know we're gonna
see what.
Speaker 2 (53:09):
HAPPENS i see you. Here stephen K winn Says GRAYSON'S
qb is a beast and he's talking ABOUT i believe
he's talking About Travis.
Speaker 1 (53:16):
Burgess oh, okay, yeah you know WHAT i forgot about.
Him he'll be taking the place Of Christian who AM
i talking? About Christian? Langdale is that?
Speaker 2 (53:26):
RIGHT i don't know who the previous quarterback. Was can
you help us out with, That stephen or The? Kortschla
do you?
Speaker 3 (53:31):
KNOW i think He's christian front think his last. Name
but he's correct On Travis burgess being a beast for.
Speaker 1 (53:38):
Sure Christian? Langdale AM i right about? That see? Five
that's What that's what he goes. By see. Five you
might help me, Out Wayne glad and checking in says
Go Fitzgerald, Purple. Hurricanes where is?
Speaker 3 (53:56):
It?
Speaker 2 (53:56):
Hurricanes oh you're thinking About Christian?
Speaker 1 (54:00):
Lakeford that's? It, Yeah lane does think of all These
langdals around us here In, Valdostay Christian, langford that's. Him
but SO i guess he's graduated and he is. Off,
Okay so we'll wrap this up on the. Quarterback so
we go now to fourth and final, quarterback and we're
talking About Lee, county who Replaces Weston bryan this. Year
(54:23):
ouch talking about big shoes To Phil ye. Again after
talking To Dean. Fabreezio right, now that situation is completely,
fluid up in the. Air nobody is set to take
over right. Now oh, wow you do have some some young.
(54:46):
Men here's the thing about. IT i, mean, look there's
no knock on whomever is in The Lee county. System
but just like all these quarterbacks we just, named you're
gonna be hard pressed define somebody who's going to play
at the level that the aforementioned quarterbacks.
Speaker 2 (55:06):
Playing maybe they just have to grow to that. Point
well they especially if they're.
Speaker 1 (55:09):
Young well of, course but the thing, is you, know
does that mean you're gonna count for, you you, know
a down.
Speaker 2 (55:16):
Year some some teams have to if they can't find their.
Speaker 3 (55:19):
Talent, yeah, yeah, NO i mean it's here's the. Thing
you can't change your, schedule, Right so when this happens
and you're in the middle of a two year, contract
everything's flipped through next. Year you have the same. Schedule
we have a tough schedule that lead does like we,
do Like beford, does somebody schools. Do whether you're plugging and,
playing is got to play that. Schedule and that's the
hardest part about. It you can't sit there and try
(55:41):
to adjust. That so you may have a down start
or rough. Start but here's the, thing there's no way
teams likely or Like, milton or like youth fear or like,
counting are gonna tank. It they're gonna have a great
year somehow figure it out and make a push because
the temples already.
Speaker 1 (55:56):
Set absolutely And west And.
Speaker 2 (55:59):
Bryant he's going To Georgia, southern, right.
Speaker 1 (56:02):
Going To Georgia. Southern, yeah going To Georgia. Southern and
the reason he's going there he got offers from several
of the big. Schools, yeah but They Georgia southern is
gonna let him play.
Speaker 2 (56:12):
Quarterback, okay and that's the position he really wanted to,
Play BUT i have other schools they were offering him
for other positions, ends, okay.
Speaker 1 (56:19):
And he would have made a great tidy.
Speaker 2 (56:20):
End and there goes that versatility again we were talking.
Speaker 1 (56:22):
About you got, There you got all. Right so that's
just a quick glance at the four top. Quarterbacks and, again,
guys you guys can read the story coming up THAT
i wrote about this. WIRE i go into a little
bit more, detail and again the coaches offer their insight
about who could be quarterbacking their team in twenty twenty.
Five but those are the big shoes to, fill all, right, Guys,
(56:44):
slider you got a couple of things that, so a
couple of pointers that you want to talk, about a
couple of show.
Speaker 3 (56:50):
Notes so, yeah, Yeah BEFORE i get, THAT i want
to give you. Props, phil So bazzani always, says how
you identify, players you do a great job with. That
we have a young man that you that you. Saw
his brother played FOR, us and this young man's a
rising Freshman landon g and And phil saw him and
realized his kids would be a great. Player well he
(57:10):
just got a U j offer as an eighth. Grader, wow,
wow eighth. Grader so once, Again, Phil phil's finding them.
Early thank you all for.
Speaker 1 (57:20):
That thank you very.
Speaker 2 (57:21):
MUCH i Appreciate ray best crazy as an eighth.
Speaker 1 (57:23):
Grader, yeah he looks like a.
Speaker 3 (57:27):
Senior he's like sixty, five like two seventy.
Speaker 2 (57:30):
Yes, yes, yes maybe even six.
Speaker 1 (57:32):
Six and now he likes his, brother Uh, thomas is that?
Speaker 3 (57:40):
Right his Brother ryan's At.
Speaker 1 (57:42):
Auburn ryan and he was one of the tight ENDS
i was talking about, earlier gotcha? Right so the tight
ends At milton Were ryan G, Yep Ethan ethan, yep
and who was and Then Grant havlin? Yep so who
is still? Here? Uh on the roster?
Speaker 3 (58:01):
Now for for like THE i guess A p four
tight end Is grant had. One ethan and And ryan
are both in college already on campus as seniors as,
freshmen but they're you, know they're in a senior year
at high school on campus now, practicing, Okay and then
we have another young tight end Behind. Grant i'm running
blank on his. NAME i don't roster in front of.
(58:22):
ME i feel. Terrible he's a, big good one. Too
i'll have to get you for you down the. Road but, Yeah,
phil we had a few. TOPICS i was just going
around and one Thing i'll ask you guys and MASSIGN
i like to hear your opinion on this too as.
Well no, doubt we see a lot of college coaches
and professional players like. Coming in other, words college coaches
leaving college to go to high school and professional players
(58:43):
retire and going to high school to. Coach, paul what's
the lord of high?
Speaker 2 (58:46):
School maybe it's just where they can really develop in
mold players at that. Stage you, KNOW i think it's
H how WOULD i describe, THIS i feel LIKE i
describe this as let me, say, okay so this is
kind of a strange, connection but my mom is a kindergarten, teacher,
(59:07):
Right she says she enjoys teaching kindergarten that age because
you can, really you, know see a difference in how
they play from building that foundation for them or with.
Them you, know they come into kindergarten not knowing how
to read and write in them by the end of the,
year you can really see a. DIFFERENCE i feel like
maybe at the high school, level since that's one of
the lowest, levels you, mean in, school in middle, school you,
(59:27):
know you could really develop a player and see their,
growth and maybe that's really satisfying for the. Coach you,
know they just want to be a part of the
player's growth at that. Stage what do you what do
you guys?
Speaker 1 (59:37):
Think what's a question?
Speaker 3 (59:38):
Again i'm, sorry, yeah So phil in, Questions, basically you
see a lot of coaches from college going to high,
school a lot OF nfl players and going to coach high.
School what's the lord of high? School what's what's bringing
to the high school?
Speaker 1 (59:51):
Level, boy that's a you, know that's a good. Question
and while we ponder, that why don't we talk about
the specific exacs. Amples so you've got one of the
ones that really called my attention this past this weekend
Was Bill, stewart who was At North. Quinnette, yes and
(01:00:12):
he goes To Georgia Yet Georgia. Tech and he goes
To Georgia tech and not, coincidentally you, know With Bill,
Stewart and of course also you had the new coach
at At Georgia. Tech, herd, gosh you've spoke at our
banquet two years. Ago the name will shame on me
(01:00:35):
for not. Remember, Anyway so the coach went To Bill
stewart went there with the new, coach and now he's
returned to be the offensive coordinator For Rance, gillespie Former
valdosta coach who is has been named the new head
coach At Raven, County. Okay so to, ask what you,
(01:00:58):
know what's the? LURE i gotta be honest with. You
i'll tell you why it. IS i think college coaches
are fed up with the the transfer. Portal, ah, yes not,
yeah THAT'S i really believe.
Speaker 2 (01:01:13):
Me good, reason.
Speaker 1 (01:01:14):
YEP i think they're just you, know it's you, know college.
Football the landscape of college football has. Changed it used
to be roll up your, sleeves go out, recruit you,
know fly to a young man's, house meet the, parents
and now eat dinner with them. Whatever you, know those
days are about to go by the. Wayside AND i
(01:01:35):
think a lot of coaches see that, coming if it's
not already. Here, Yeah AND i think a lot of coaches.
Don't they just don't like how the recruiting part of
college football what has turned. Into.
Speaker 2 (01:01:47):
Yeah, Yeah And Steven, TATE i think he kind of
is going off what you're saying is what he's saying,
this BUT i think it ties into what you're. Saying he, Says,
well for the most, part high school football is still
being played for the love of the, game but the
nil will kill, it just like college.
Speaker 1 (01:02:03):
Football well and again in al you, know probably a
part of why college coaches are you, know are are
you know leaving the when you come back to high
school for the purity of? It, yeah you, know because
at the end it really college has now turned into
pretty close to professional pay for. Play that is. TRUE
(01:02:23):
i DON'T i personally don't like, it but you, know
just just me. Slide what are your, thoughts? MAN i,
mean you've Heard mazanie's, take you've heard my. TAKE i,
mean you, know what's your.
Speaker 3 (01:02:34):
TAKE i think they're both great, thoughts and it's. FUNNY
i Think No mazanie's personality is little knowing her on the.
SHOW i love HER. Bov she's, like look at they,
Were they're they're going to grow young. Men they're gonna
build them a secure level of sports to throw THAT tv.
LOVE i love that analogy with uh with your mom's kindergarten.
(01:02:54):
Class and Then, PHIL i agree with you as, well
it's what you were. SAYING i do think part of
it too is the lack of stability in College. Now
coaches are moving, around and these guys are moving their.
FAMILIES i mean every other day On, Twitter i'm this
guy switching schools and you see a pitcher of his.
Family these are young kids and young, families these, coaches you,
Know and Then i'm making the big buss like the
(01:03:14):
boss man. Is SO i think there's a point in
time where they can settle down in high school and
get a place where they can maybe not move around
as much and get their family established in a decent.
Community SO i think that that helps as. Well for,
sure WHAT i do think is interesting is now you've
see in THE nfl guys going to college down like The,
belichicks and some of these guys are BEING gms in
(01:03:36):
college because guess what college is now the NEW. Nfl
that is.
Speaker 2 (01:03:40):
True, yeah that's What i'll say.
Speaker 1 (01:03:43):
It it's just it's really become college as it's. Sloted
me to catch you, Off i'll come back to. You,
no you're. Good but, yeah that's WHAT i was. SAYING
i think college really it used to be where college
was more, close closer to high, school and NOW i
think it's just. FLIPPED i think college it's really now
has become the minor leagues of professional. Football oh yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:04:06):
Yeah so do you guys think that the major leagues
OR nfl will or pro level would eventually change since
the lower levels are kind of.
Speaker 1 (01:04:16):
Changing, NO i don't think it'll, change BUT i think
college football will certainly continue to, change and not for the.
Better so what do you think about?
Speaker 3 (01:04:26):
That that's a great. QUESTION i don't think it's GONNA
nfl is gonna change much because they have THE, cba
like The Bargain agreement, right so NOW i think college
will have some sort OF cba or at least some
kind of injunction la they're doing now where each team
gets so much money and they got to spend. It
not what A caf or, say but you have twenty
million dollars spread around among your. ATHLETES i think they're
(01:04:48):
doing that to get more parody out, there which will
probably help the sport a little. Bit to be honest with,
you as far as that's why you're see In colorado
and these schools that weren't very good two years ago
becoming really. GOOD i think that's. Different different when your
new coach now. Too new coaches don't forget these guys
are going to these different levels even in high school
and they're stepping in and there's teams are coming really good
(01:05:08):
in the year or. Two, well now in college is
even more prevalent because the kiss can bounce and you
can get your. Players you need to get. Right you
have to be his, patients kind of a microwave society
as coaches. Go so it'll be very good to see
how it kind of all fans.
Speaker 1 (01:05:22):
Out you're Watching Extra point With Phil. Jones of, course
we have miss Producer Mazzonie matthews turning the buttons and
making sure that we stay streaming live to you guys
and joining us on the phone is none other than Coach.
Sly he is the former athletic director there At. Milton
(01:05:42):
he checks in with us every week right here At
Extra point with yours Te Lea Phil. Jones, again big
thanks To pepsicola and Doctor Kevin collins The Houston clinic
sponsoring our weekly podcast that we Call Extra. Point SO
i want to hear y'all's. Comments, okay we got a
lot of people, watching but you, know what do you
(01:06:03):
what are your? Comments what do you? Think you, know
as far as the topics that we're tackling here, TODAY
i love to hear your.
Speaker 2 (01:06:09):
Comments Stephen tates, says semi pro ball now equals college.
Speaker 1 (01:06:13):
Ball, sure, yeah it really Have just think, guys you,
know it just seems like yesterday we were investigating kids
for getting paid for taking. Money now it's all part
of the. Game.
Speaker 2 (01:06:29):
Yeah WELL i, figure you, know they probably, think, well
if you can't stop it, necessarily let's figure out how
to you, know control.
Speaker 1 (01:06:37):
It, yeah. Exactly you, Know, LOOK i, MEAN i Just
i'm not really against college kids getting. PAID i, mean you,
Know i'm. NOT i JUST i don't know part of
me JUST i love the amateur. STATUS i hate that
(01:06:58):
being taken. Away you, KNOW i didn't like it when
the pros were able to go to The. Olympics what,
yeah BECAUSE i mean The olympics were again that Was,
yeah that was supposed to, be as we, say for
the love of pure, competition not for. Money, yeah that's
what it's turned. INTO i don't, know just my, thoughts
(01:07:20):
not saying they're the most, popular but so why you
want to chime in.
Speaker 3 (01:07:24):
Here nomless what we have to. SAY I i you're saying,
That i'm you're saying that resonate with? Me i'm, thinking
how DO i really feel about? That AND i THINK
i think it. Is here's my. Thing as long as
the competition gets, better, RIGHT i think as long as
we see the word parodies use so much now across the,
(01:07:48):
BOARD i think there's a positivity to a lot of. This,
however you're losing the purity of the game and the
sports and we, are and let's face, it we. ARE
i mean back in the day and was not even
furtherest couple of episodes ago were talking about how you
know you're in the, band go watch your team. Play
The betailgaton afterwards that they get together and hang out
and you don't care who you. Play you played somebody
(01:08:09):
down the street and you got to beat. Them. Yeah
now it's not like that. Now it's almost like even
high school it's like a. Business you got to have
the best teams come, in you gotta, travel you give
me national Relevant, uh you, know you don't have you
don't worry about. Afterwards you're don't even go into games.
Anymore SO i think it's. Changing that's the part THAT
i don't.
Speaker 2 (01:08:26):
Like, yeah you have to Do it's like they have
to do programs have to do more and more now
to keep people's attention y yeah, so AND i feel
like that's harder. Now.
Speaker 1 (01:08:37):
Yeah so again that that's just kind of Where i'm.
At but you, know, look if we can keep high school,
football yeah, again as as as close to its roots as,
possible that that that that is my hope for. Sure
my Buddy Rusty cravychimony AND i love This rusty Crave
(01:09:00):
he is a longtime friend of, mine AND i Just
i've seen here talking about this all at the purity
of the, game and it's so. Simple and Then rusty
busts me and Says Phil Tiff terry paid you and
offered me to play back in the. Day not, exactly
(01:09:21):
but let's just me, Listen rusty myself AND i don't,
know there was about five or about five or six
of us that we were playing For Tiff county that
just won the state. Championship so you had, Me rusty
and about two hundred other kids that want to come
(01:09:42):
out and play for the brand new state. Champion. Yeah,
well let me tell, you it ain't nothing like it is.
Now Jeane brody and his staff ran an absolute boot.
CAMP i, mean you did not mess around and so,
yeah we were, like, nah, man we're not down for.
(01:10:02):
This So Gift area wanted us to come out and,
play and we, did and you, know it was it
was one of the best Experiences i've ever. Had, nice
never came off the, field you, know got to play every,
down loved. It, yeah so, anyway it was All it
was all, great but it was a lot of.
Speaker 2 (01:10:25):
FUN i think that kind of speaks, to, uh you,
know what some players go through now or what they.
Do you, know they may get like a huge offer
from this like top, school but then they go play,
for you, know maybe a school that's not in the top,
five but maybe that guarantees them playing. Time how do
you guys feel about? That because if you, know, say for,
instance you get you, know scattered By georgia or, something
(01:10:48):
but you know you may not be a. Starter, yeah
do you think some players are going to another team
with because they know they have more of a chance of. Starting?
Sure how do you guys feel about? That, Like i'm
a afore.
Speaker 1 (01:11:00):
That, Yeah i'm, Mom i'm good with.
Speaker 3 (01:11:02):
That, yeah my you. Know my saying, is don't win
the press. Conference if you have five or six teams
that are courting, you and there's a team that really
you fit the, best you can play early and compete.
Early then why Pick georgia OR Uga i'm gonna do
Or alabama to sit three years on the. Bench you
can play. Early maybe maybe that's your dream school and
you can do that and go ahead and. Compete compete is,
(01:11:24):
Great BUT i hate kids AND i come all the.
Time don't win the press. Conference go don't go up
there And i'm signing WITH uga and the big signing
and then the, year, lady you transfer because you don't
want to compete and you're going someplace, else, right just
go to a school that you fit or fits you
or you, know it could be AN fcs, school it
could be A d two school to buy the money
is you're still, playing still getting money to go to.
(01:11:44):
School uh and you and you're playing a sport you.
Love SO i think it's one hundred percent a, good,
good good, QUESTION mazoni that's HOW i feel about. IT i,
think go play where you go where you can play
and that fits.
Speaker 2 (01:11:55):
You, yeah that's.
Speaker 1 (01:11:56):
True so did you did you ever offer your opinion
on why you THINK nfl coaches Are i'm sorry, College,
WELL i guess you can say BOTH nfl or and
or college coaches are being lowered back to playing high
school or coming back to a high school. Game.
Speaker 3 (01:12:12):
Yeah the one PART i said WAS i think that
there's no stability in college, Anymore so those guys are
going to a place where it's stability to college. Coaches
and you, KNOW i also think, too when it comes
down to, COLLEGES i think you're. Correct with the transfers
and everything going, on they're just getting tired of. It
they get tired the. Nil they're getting tired, of you,
know basically recruiting your team every. Year in other, words
(01:12:33):
when you're it's like having eighty five now one hundred
and twenty three agents every year in. College think about.
It right back in the, day you, know eighty five
scholarships all walk ons after, that and you had your,
money twenty five scholars a year you gave out and
you did it it. Up now it's one hundred and twenty,
scholaries no walk. Ons and by the, way every year
you got to recruit these kids because they may go
someplace else in the. Portal that's THAT'S i, mean that's
(01:12:55):
THE nfl doesn't even do, that.
Speaker 1 (01:12:57):
Right, well, yeah AND i gave an, example AND i
mean it's just one particular, player but there's just one.
Many so how many of you guys? Remember AND i
think sly you AND i were talking about. This so
there was a young man played uh uh it Was
Jack pope safety For. Beford is that his? Name? Yep Jack? Pope?
(01:13:20):
Right is He?
Speaker 3 (01:13:21):
POPE i don't think It's. Jacket there's there's two, cousins,
right one's a one played AT uja and one's playing At.
Speaker 1 (01:13:27):
Buford now, okay, yeah SO i can't remember the young man's.
Name it Wasn't, Jack but, Anyway pope all. Right so
he was a absolute headhunter of a safety At. Beford,
OKAY i mean it looked like he was one of
these kids can't Miss, YEAH i mean really recruited by
every Big division one. College, well he goes To, Alabama,
(01:13:52):
okay Ghast. Alabama Jake pope was his, Name, Yep Jake Ghost.
Alabama can't miss. Kid, well he, missed can't get on
the field At, alabama so he transfers To. Georgia, well
things for whatever, reason don't work out for him At.
Georgia so now he's going to u n L. V
(01:14:15):
not Quite georgia and certainly not Quite. Alabama so the
point being that now this will be the young, man
and the transfer portal has offered him the opportunity to
make lateral.
Speaker 2 (01:14:31):
Moves, yeah, frequently very, frequently you.
Speaker 1 (01:14:35):
Know, THIRD i mean this will be what his third
school in three? Years, yeah so, YEAH i, MEAN i
JUST i guess one side of me, says, well it's
great that there is an opportunity, there that that is
that the portal. Exists and there's the other side of
me that, says, well it's kind of a shame that
(01:14:57):
the portal exists for him to be able to do.
That you always say What i'm.
Speaker 2 (01:15:01):
Saying, Yeah, well like how how does he have time
to get used to assist?
Speaker 3 (01:15:05):
Him?
Speaker 1 (01:15:06):
Yeah in or a. Place, yeah that's a great.
Speaker 3 (01:15:09):
Point that's a great. Point you, don't you really. Don't
and his, brother his, Cousin jack's J j Lay now
he just stay as. Well that's, Right i'm. Saying who
plays At. Buford i'm Sorry Buford jack's, pope but you're.
Right it's it's how do you how do you get
how do you assimilate to that? Team how do you
get used to that? Team how do you you? Know
(01:15:31):
how do you how do you fold with the players
and the? Coaches and it's that's What i'm. Saying every
year is a free agency of players for college. COACHES
i think that's one reason why some of these, guys
like the guy At Alfreda landis is Leaving Georgia state
And West georgia and going To alfretta to be ahead
football coach because his family could be in the community
and that doesn't have to fight every year keeping kids
(01:15:53):
on his, campus even though he has to do over
there as. Well, Unfortunately But i'm sorry that was that
wasn't a good.
Speaker 1 (01:15:58):
Thing M, yeah so.
Speaker 3 (01:16:02):
Nobody got that. Way.
Speaker 1 (01:16:04):
WAY i missed, it, BROTHER i missed. It maybe it's
a good, thing it sounds. Like but but, Anyway, yeah
so that's just an example There, again it's two. Sided
Coin it's good that he has the opportunity to do
what he's, doing but it kind of stinks that he's
having the ability to do what he's. DOING i, mean
(01:16:28):
you know What i'm. Saying, yeah and you're, RIGHT i,
mean how's he? Goings you wna ever acclimated to a? System?
Yeah that just don't come. EASY i, mean you, know
it's IT'S i, mean it's pretty difficult when you get
into Big division one. Football heck And, Milton i'm sure
they got quite the, playbook but that just gets to
be really tough and you got to learn your assignments
and et, cetera et.
Speaker 2 (01:16:47):
Cetera BUT i just feel like it becomes. Individualistic you,
know it's not really about the team. Anymore you, know
how what my goals are individual. Goals AND i, mean,
like if you're gonna be a part of the, team
then you know you all have share the same.
Speaker 1 (01:17:00):
Goal, Yes Kirby small was not happy about him, leaving you,
know and he's, like, look he had some choice for.
Words it's, like but, anyway you're, right you, know it's
like he's trying to find where he fits. In and
this was no run of The mills. Player you, know
he was big. Time So i'm just kind of shocked
(01:17:21):
to see him doing. This and if it can happen to,
him it can happen to. Anybody, WELL i.
Speaker 2 (01:17:27):
Think as a, player, though you do want to find
what's best for, you. Know but do you guys think
there should be any stipulations on the transfer portal or
what kind of stipulations are there, already Because i'm not
too familiar with, That like what kind of rules they
may have in regards to the transfer Porter like if you,
switch you, know like should you be able to do
it three schools in three? Years maybe once you get
(01:17:49):
to a, school stay there at least two? Seasons what
do you guys say that's?
Speaker 1 (01:17:52):
Possible but what you really start to get into some
some tough.
Speaker 2 (01:17:56):
Restrictions, Yeah so What i'm, saying maybe that's a little too.
Speaker 1 (01:17:59):
Long five years.
Speaker 3 (01:18:01):
ON i think if you're gonna make this LIKE nfl
what they're, doing, basically then have, contracts haven't commit the.
Contracts have the contract not just be for a, year
or have the contract be through the bowl, season so
when the season, ends they don't bail on you because
you're not going to a, playoff you, know and they're
not gonna play BECAUSE i think it has to be
some kind of stipulations designing to your point that keep
(01:18:23):
these kids at least through an entire, season including The,
bulls because right now they don't do. That they can
just peace out In december and or peace out even
during the playoff. Run we. Sought it happened this past.
YEAR i, mean who does? That and guess, what it's
not gonna hurt you in THE nfl draft because integrity
doesn't matter. Anymore it does it in THE. Nfl it's just.
Speaker 1 (01:18:43):
Skills Luke Luke, nelson who knows the. SITUATION i Know
luke who's Big, beeford Big beeford, fan And luke knows
the family pretty. Well So luke is about as qualified
as anybody to talk on this. Situation And Luke nelson
said is In jake's, defense His alabama position coach came
(01:19:04):
to u G a after he. Transferred and again that's
another part of the whole. Deal you, know, COACHES i
think you're seeing now coaches are starting to transfer. More,
yeah you, Know sly initially brought it up about college
coaches coming down to THE. Nfl they're, also of course
transfermed from school to, school trying to find what you,
know where they're fit is and where their niche. Is
(01:19:27):
and so when you do, that that effects a player
is effect To. Jake so that's a good. Point, LOOK
i appreciate you bringing that, out for. Sure my Buddy
Rusty cravy, says, yes he thinks you shut down the.
Portal that's what you had brought.
Speaker 2 (01:19:42):
UP i don't think you should shut it.
Speaker 1 (01:19:44):
Down, yeah well, yeah you were asking about different, right
different alternatives to what could be, done and So rusty, says,
yes shut down the. Portal, RUSH i don't think it's
ever gonna be, Done but, again you've got to make
some kind of, adjustments for. SURE i just don't think
think it's gonna be good for the. GAME i think
we're already starting to see some of the fallout from.
It So, rusty love your. Enthusiasm, yeah AND i AND
(01:20:11):
i hear where you're coming, from, Brother but hopefully they'll
enact some kind of.
Speaker 2 (01:20:15):
CHANGE i feel like we're too far. Gone it's never
going to. Go you're, right a non. PORTAL i agree.
Speaker 1 (01:20:21):
SYSTEM i agree with.
Speaker 3 (01:20:22):
THAT i think that ship has sailed one hundred.
Speaker 1 (01:20:25):
Percent all, right, guys we're starting to get into the
waning moments of the show, here SO i just wanted to, see.
UH i, know there was several topics that we wanted
to talk. About as my boy starts to give, weight
it only happens this, way so you're gonna have to
take over what you, got leave the, Charge.
Speaker 2 (01:20:43):
Mazzani what else do we have to talk? ABOUT i
know we were talking about we got through all the, quarterbacks,
right and then last thing THAT i think we wanted
to touch ON i don't believe we talked about it
that much was How roswell hired J. T. Thompson.
Speaker 1 (01:20:59):
Yeah, yeah that's, well that's another you, know, coach and
you're talking about which coaches DO i think will make
have the biggest, impact you, Know and that was. One
WHEN i wrote the, STORY i did not INCLUDE. Jt
and because again it was a situation where you, KNOW
jt was coming From Lee county where he was going
(01:21:22):
to be a first year head coach and he was
coming into a program that really wasn't. Down, Okay so
having said, THAT i THINK jt is just the kind
of coach offensive, minded and he's going to come into
a program that likes to throw the football. Around you,
know that's kind of their. Mo And i'll let you
(01:21:46):
And sly kind of talk more on. That sly off
base or? What do you think you agree with?
Speaker 3 (01:21:50):
That as far AS jt coming in and throwing the ball, around.
Speaker 1 (01:21:55):
Well, no as far as Like roswell has been known,
for they've always been a pass Happy.
Speaker 2 (01:22:00):
Yeah. Yeah do you think his coaching style will?
Speaker 1 (01:22:03):
Match it's.
Speaker 3 (01:22:04):
Different his coaching style is different than what they've seen.
There AND i think his overall coaching, style not just
x's and, o's but approaches different than what they've seen.
THERE i think he's more of a, man old, school blue,
collar not that he's, old but he's he's more of a,
(01:22:26):
uh you, KNOW i don't. THINK i don't think the
coach that was there prior is is he coaches his kids.
DIFFERENTLY i can't put it the. Words it's different minded
coach compared to what coach WHAT jt Is AND i
DON'T i. DON'T i think they're both great. COACHES i
think they both Have i'm more be honest with, You
i'm more in the middle of both of. Them BUT
i think Coach reeves is more in the middle of
(01:22:46):
both of. Them BUT i think they both had the
philosophies on approaching the, game and And roswell did real
well with coach before they left to go To, dalton
and J t's coming. HERE i think he'll do great.
TOO i think it's a different. MENTALITY i think those
kids are going to see a different type of coaching
and have to assimulate that as. Well so if they
can do, that he can do. That they can be often.
Running but this Isn't this isn't, offense Not Lee county.
(01:23:09):
Too It's Roswell's Metro, atlanta and it's, different AND i
think it's to be interesting to see how that. Happens
i'm looking forward to seeing. It we'll play him, too
so we'll let you know first hand how it.
Speaker 1 (01:23:17):
Looks, absolutely so let me let me touch on. This
SO i think With Weston bryne At Lee, COUNTY i
think j and J t was the offensive coordinator and
he was the quarterbacks. COACH i think they utilized or
they ran The Lea county. Offense we saw it in
(01:23:38):
The milton. Game it basically everything went Through. Western, okay
you know and sly did you have a chance to
watch the, GAME i mean literally it was you, know,
Run weston takes the, stakes the, snap runs, right runs,
left runs up the middle and, look you know first
(01:23:58):
Half Lete county has some success with so irun. Heavy
well not, necessarily they were just Utilizing Lee county in
this Case Western brian's ability to run the, football but
he Got he also had through some pretty spot on
passes in that game as. WELL i guess What i'm
saying IS i can See Lee counties that, WELL i
(01:24:22):
hate to say, this they were really kind of one
dimensional on, offense but they it was okay because that
it was. Working, YEAH i, mean my, gosh they were
undefeated going into The milton. Game, yea and they had
been running that same. Style so BUT i think now
with a more diverse, offense, quarterbacks running, backs receivers and
(01:24:43):
not having that one dominant. Quarterback And i'm making an assumption.
THERE i just think that he is going to spread it.
Out AND i think that's kind of What roswell had
been doing and. Slides it sounds like there that you
may may have a different you on.
Speaker 3 (01:25:00):
THAT i think he's gonna bringing more physicality to the game.
Speaker 1 (01:25:03):
That ros will have it for him To, OKAY i got.
Speaker 3 (01:25:04):
You, yeah that's WHAT i think he's gonna, bring which
can Make rosweld more. Dangerous that that's just being. Fair
and and you know when when he was At Lee
county and they had you, know last Year Western, bryant
we knew we're gonna make a beat us in the.
Air you want to beat, us beat us in the.
Air you can beat us on the ground eventual wear
you down and we'll take the people play, defense but
(01:25:25):
beat us in the. Air and it didn't happen that.
Way AND i think that's where they fell short At.
ROSWELL i think he's gonna have if he has a
quarterback or anybody even halfway like, that with his physical
mentality of a coach and the and the and the
players around, them they can put the ball in the.
Air it can be, interesting very.
Speaker 2 (01:25:41):
Interesting steven K wim made an interesting comment THAT i
wanted to point. Out he, Says roswell doesn't have A
western OR usmani but THE qb is a good dual.
Speaker 1 (01:25:50):
Threat, yeah and that's kind of WHAT i was. Meaning you,
know you're not gonna have that western that one guy
to lean on so. Heavy SO i think you're gonna
have to again utilize the diversification of the. Offense you
gonna have to really get the. Quarterback i'm, sorry the
running back, involved the receivers, involved and so but, hey
it's been a great show and just like, that oh, Wow,
BOOM i know it's. Over. Guys this is the point,
(01:26:12):
though that we give all of us have a chance
to give our final parting. Shot so with, that who
wants to go?
Speaker 2 (01:26:20):
First i'll take it real. Quick look out, well speaking OF. J.
C thompson And, Roswell i'm excited to see what he.
Does you, know maybe he could be one of the
top coaches that we talked about that will have a
great impact on the. PROGRAM i know we Mentioned Daniel
Boom williams earlier in the YEAR i, mean or excuse,
me not, yet but yoh, yeah earlier in the year
in season you, know speaking of divorcing me, earlier and
(01:26:43):
Then Alan. Clack you know a lot of great coaches
to watch out, for so being the look at, you,
guys and also being the lookout For phil's pieces that
he writes. About you, know everything that we talked about
in the, show he basically writes. About, yep so stay
up today with ig would keep you up to date
on all the latest high school football. News and, Yeah
i'll pass it on to you or coach.
Speaker 1 (01:27:03):
Line, well let me just say go ahead and all.
That sly have the final say for, Sure BUT i
just want to kind of piggyback off What mazi was. Saying,
guys be sure to follow me On. Twitter really trying
to make more of an impact than a presence on
Our twitter. Feed and again that's both IT G next
and myself at feel IT G, Next so be sure
(01:27:24):
to follow me On. Twitter i've got a post up
there now about the the. Helmets who AM i? Missing and,
uh there's Still i'm sure some other helmets that we
can get up. Here somebody needs to get us a?
Helmet is That? MILTON i thought you never? Asked all?
Right so with, THAT i will segue from that question To,
(01:27:50):
sly who's gonna take us on.
Speaker 3 (01:27:53):
My final, words they're get a helmet down there to.
YOU i THINK i knew SOMEBODY i could do, that
but MAYBE i. Don't i'll say, THIS i, say, WELL
i say it every once in a. While we have
the best viewers and their knowledge about football and high school,
athletics which is. Amazing, yes AND i love the. Input
and anytime you can do a, show you, know when
(01:28:15):
you're not in, season and you can talk about this
and we get viewers and we get people to follow
inter on and pull it up and watch. It shows
how special and blessed we are In georgia to have
this many great programs and great coaches and great. Players
so it's not every, state it's not like. This matter of,
fact there's only a few states that even possibly can
compare To georgia with the, communities the coaches and the.
(01:28:37):
Players so we are really blessed to have that opportunity
here Here.
Speaker 1 (01:28:41):
Slith and with that we are gonna say so long
until next. Week, Guys, again big thanks to all of
you for joining. Us we're gonna be here next week
six o'clock six to seven point thirty ish somewhere around,
there and as long as the show can carry, us
that's what we'll. Do we'll take it as far as
we can, go which tonight was four an hour and a. Half,
(01:29:02):
again big thanks To pepsi and Doctor Kevin collins The
Houston clink for sponsoring the, Show big thanks To, mazzani his,
producer and again big thanks to my buddy coach Slave
Phil jones saying have a great night, everybody
