staff here going at it back and forth.

We got a pretty good crowd coming in for the
dinner hour.

Speaker 1 (01:16):

three full weeks. You see the gentleman in addition to

Mark, thanks so much for being with me again.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Yeah. Hey, feeling nice to be here. Uh just wondering
are you trying all different kind of pizzas?

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Are you sticking to book? Man?

Speaker 1 (01:43):
I am a true and loyal all meat kind of guy.
I like the meat some metza they call it.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
Okay? All right?

Speaker 2 (01:52):
All right then where the conn of war?

Speaker 4 (01:56):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (01:56):
Type of the pizza. So anyway, Yeah, that's that's what
I'm one with again today.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
And by the way, big thanks to our friends here
mellow Mushroom for not only hosting us here on the show,
but obviously feeding us and taking care of us and.

us hear your comments. Let us know where you're checking
out the show from and what team you are a
fan of, and what was on your mind. Join in
the conversation with the topics that we're gonna be talking
about here tonight. Well, Mark, I guess right off the

(02:47):
top we're gonna talk about, By the way, just see
you guys don't know what we're gonna talk about tonight.
We're gonna start off talking about the transfer situation. We're
gonna pick up some final thoughts and just lest me
the thoughts and comments on that that we've got a
lot of tractions last couple of weeks since since your
strut we've posted that really was not expecting the engagement

(03:09):
that we got. Thankful for it obviously, and markin you
and I'll get into this and we encourage you guys
to give us your comments and questions thoughts, and then
we'll move on to our quarterback situation.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
This is another topic that I came up with. We
always hear about the North Georgia quarterbacks.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
You've always got the metro of LTE quarterbacks and making
a lot of noise. But it just don't know on
me that this year, going into the twenty five season, guys,
we've got a lot of H caliber quarterbacks in Southern
Georgia and I think as a group more so than
we've ever had. So I came up with our top
ten be thanks to Flint posting that here was a

(03:48):
graphic and one thing called you guys, boy, y'all had
a lot of canyons.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
Your opinion still coming in.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
We encourage you guys to like and share that page
and again give us your comments from the top ten quarterbacks.
I do want to add something to that. We'll we
talk about that when we get to it. And then
also Mark has got a pretty interesting comment subject that
he wants to talk.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
About, and uh, he just brought.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
It up earlier today and I thought, this is pretty
and this is gonna this is for everybody, no matter
what sport you want. Okay, But anyway, that's where where
we're going to go today. So first and foremot is
Mark in this transfer situation. Like I mentioned, he's got
a lot of traction, got a lot of people talking
about it.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
Kind of hold me away to beyond with Yeah, I know.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
We talked. We talked about a lot of different angles
with regarding transfers. Again, I do applause the GHSA for
taking action to try to to try to get a
hold on this transfer situation. I think the biggest thing
is if you can prevent someone from just transferring multiple times.

(04:57):
I know one thing that we get to think about
I didn't really think about. And I've since since last
week's show, I've had the opportunity to speak with some coaches.
The coaches I spoke to seem to feel like there's
still gonna be some transferring going on that'll be there
no matter what. I do think this will help. But

(05:18):
the other thing that we didn't talk about is if
you sign over legal guardianship of your child, of your
son to someone, then basically anybody could be their legal guardian.
I know we didn't talk about that, and that's really

(05:38):
a simple process. You don't have to go before court
to do that. Let's say I live in town X,
and I want my son to go play in town why,
and either I have a cousin that lives there, whatever
it may be, He'll have signed over guardianship to my

(06:04):
child for that individual, and then they're the legal guardian.
That's where the child will be living and then can
play in that area. I know that sounds extreme, but
I know we've seen that in the past. I think
that's another angle to this thing. But again, I do
think it'll be effective. I do think it'll help. Again,

(06:24):
I know that's extreme, but but I've seen that personally
in several situations.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
Yeah, and you're right Mark that that's something that I
didn't really consider, and I think really easually I'm looking.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
At this.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
That you can say pretty much posted the rules the
new rules, and I think that's going to serve as
a guide.

Speaker 1 (06:48):
And then but you're gonna have to like the situation,
the scenario of markets you've fell out there.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
I think there's gonna.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
Be many of the dozens of those what I call
exception situations, and obviously people are gonna have to file
for you know, whether it's a heartship, you know which
I think it's heartship. It's kind of a misknown where
it really applies to anything any kind of exception that
falls outside the regular order for a guide, and obviously

(07:17):
you're gonna have a lot of those.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
Robin Heinz Bopp the way.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
I mentioned this last week, Mark, but Robin heinsteimed, then
if people that said the same thing, I'm trying to
kind of appease this people and say, look, you just say,
you know, wants to make it work, they're going to
be obviously listening to every particular case.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
So, but that's a good one. That's one I didn't
really didn't really consider it.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
And Mark, I guarantee you if there's a couple more,
several more actually we probably aren't thinking of, that's gonna
come up.

Speaker 3 (07:44):
For sure. Again, I think it'll I think it'll meet
the objective. I think it's gonna slow things down. But
we live in a world today where sports is changing
so quickly and it's impacting the high school level. It's
really even impact and you know you get down in
middle school or pop Warner. I mean, kids are getting

(08:06):
trained at such a high level. We talked about that
a little bit as well. You know, these freshman quarterback
quarterbacks being able to come in and make an immediate
impact and the reason they're getting this high quality training
at a very young age and are able to jump
in and to get started. So I do think I

(08:26):
think you're going to see some of that. You mentioned exceptions.
I think the GHSA is probably going to get flooded
with a few of those, certainly, once this thing kicks in. Obviously,
it doesn't take effect this year, correct Phil. This is
next year, that's right, They will begin to enforce these rules.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
Yeah, that's right, twenty twenty six season.

Speaker 3 (08:49):
Yeah, so very interesting. Boy, we live in an ever
changing world. I know, Phil, since you and I have
been this is year eighteen that we've been around. You
go back a little further than than that, really with
with with high school sports, I've always been a big fan,
but for eighteen years we've been very close to high

(09:10):
school athletics in football, and I don't know that we
could have predicted the change that's happened in the last
three four years. And it just seems like it keeps
you know, it keeps moving, it keeps going on and on.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
Well, look, Mark, here here's the thing about this transfer situation.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
You know, there's no doubt that again you can just
look at the reaction that we got more. I think
the last time I looked at it, we had I
think that the numbers were pretty even. Uh one and
a half thousand likes and shares of that story.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
It maybe be more. You do a pretty good job
of keeping updated with our.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
Analytics, and you know, so, I don't know, but it
definitely is one of the more engaged stories we.

Speaker 2 (09:56):
Had in the while.

Speaker 1 (09:57):
And that just shows the passion the interest that people
have in that subject.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
Mark, you know, it just reminds me. I'm sitting here
thinking when my when my oldest son played football, we
were actually living and making when he first started, and
we were playing in the main league downtown and they
would do a draft of the players and these coaches

(10:23):
would show up. Now, look, these are six, seven, eight,
nine year old. These coaches would show up with video
cameras to video these kids, then to go back and
figure out, Hey, who do we need to draft. It's crazy,
and it's even now over and above that the way

(10:45):
that people have bought in and you know, sports now
it's a big it's big money now. And that's even
you know that's even found its way at the high
school level. So I don't think it's gonna I don't
think it's gonna end. I do think it's just it's
something in us that. Look, I'll admit it. If I
was a coach, I want to try to have the

(11:06):
best team I can, but I want to play within
the rules. I want to do it. You know, I'm
not going to break the rules to put together the
best team. So I certainly wouldn't turn down a very
good transfer. Let me put it that way.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
I got you. Now, let's think about that.

Speaker 1 (11:23):
We'll kind of close with this, and again, guys, if
y'all got a comment or two you want to add
as we close out this subject and move on to
another one. But my thing is Mark, this has obviously
been a very heated subject. But somebody, somebody up the line. Okay,

(11:44):
I probably.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
Got burned by this rule.

Speaker 1 (11:47):
And the only reason I'm saying that because you know,
this transfer issue has kind of been meddling along, you know,
within the GHSA now. And granted we did have a
change in the executive director Robin Hines. Look, he always
was was very you know, a matter of fact about
the situation. They always did their due diligence, and you know,
Robin Hines always said though, look, you know, we you know,

(12:09):
I can't remember the exact number of transfers, but there's
a large number of transfers every year. My point being
to enforce those rules under the previous guidelines, it was
very tough. Mark said, was basically outmanned. So I think
they realized that, hey, we're going to have to put
some some really some deeper teeth in this thing, for

(12:31):
lack of a better word, because we just don't have
the manpower. And I say, we just say, just don't
have the manpow to go out and physically check and
confirm all of the.

Speaker 2 (12:43):
Uh, you know, the moves to ensure it's a bona
fide movie.

Speaker 3 (12:46):
Well, you're correct, it's kind of funny though, and he
also mentioned I believe that the majority of the time,
there's only a handful of transfers that they have to
look into the most or that people report like there
may be thousands of transfers, but there's only a handful
that quote get turned in or need to be verified.

(13:08):
Of course, and we all know why that is. Uh,
those will be the higher profile ones, primarily in football,
that may where somewhere can go and make an immediate impact.
And certainly when you see kids in mass move you know,
you got three or four kids moving into to one school. Yeah,
but I think that'll be an ongoing thing. But I
didn't want to hit on. I do think you'll even

(13:31):
see some people sign over the legal guardianship of their
child to a relative, family member or whatever it may be,
so that'll pave the way for them to really play,
you know, wherever.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
Absolutely so something obviously to keep an eye on bear
as we move forward.

Speaker 1 (13:49):
So all right, speaking of moving forward, we're gonna move
to our next conversation, next topic of conversation. I do
want to take a moment before we move into our
our next topic to kind of address some of our viewers.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
Mark we've got a course.

Speaker 1 (14:05):
As always Obadive Farley from Thomas County Central. It's checking
out the show. You know what, Mark, I can always
count on Obidive Farley being front and center.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
He is a very loyal viewer.

Speaker 1 (14:18):
He's a fan of TCC's Thomas County Central's number one fan,
and I just want to give a big shout out
and thanks and salute Overdie Farley for checking out the show.

Speaker 3 (14:27):
Well, he's got a lot to be excited about being
being a fan of TCC. Trust me, they're only come up.
I already want a state championship. A couple of years ago.
I got a feeling there's there's there's more in the
future at Thomas County Central.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
There's a couple of teams, I said, a couple a
handful Mark that you know. As you know, I've been
working on the twenty twenty five football previews. We're gonna
be putting those out for a large number of teams,
and I ain't gotta be honest with you, there's a
couple of teams, a few teams, Mark that they're gonna

(15:06):
be very, very tough to be now. Of course, I
probably no secret that one of the teams because we
kind of teased it.

Speaker 2 (15:13):
Here is Thomas County Central.

Speaker 1 (15:15):
You know they lost some good players, but Mark, they
are just bringing back so much talent.

Speaker 2 (15:23):
There's a handful of teams like that.

Speaker 1 (15:24):
But we may catch on to you talk about a
little bit of that as if we have time allows
for at the end of the show. But I just
wanted to mention that that with football season right on
the corner, Toms Cinty Central's gonna be one of the teams.

Speaker 3 (15:35):
To watch for sure, no question about it.

Speaker 2 (15:38):
Yeah, all right. We got Andrew Watkins checking out the show.

Speaker 1 (15:41):
Andrew says, what's up Field, go Darty, Darty in the house?

Speaker 2 (15:46):
Love it.

Speaker 1 (15:46):
Jeffrey Roland said, you think it was hot today kicking
up twenty degrees because the demons just walked into.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
Itg I love it.

Speaker 1 (15:57):
Luke Nelson aka Big Buford is in the house.

Speaker 2 (16:01):
Well, I tell you my.

Speaker 1 (16:03):
Buddy, Luke Nelson, his son plays big linebacker for Beauford.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
Boy, they have got a lot to be looking.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
Forward to with that brand new stadium, a great team
coming in Mark, that's gonna be a lot of fun.

Speaker 3 (16:17):
Beauford's a great place. Really been up there multiple times
and met all those guys their first class people. They
do a great job at Buford.

Speaker 1 (16:27):
Absolutely all right, we got mentioned Obdy Farley OVID. That's
got a question here, speaking of transfers Field, why do
you think Bryce Pucket transferred to Brooks County.

Speaker 2 (16:38):
Well, now, there's been a lot of speculation about this.

Speaker 1 (16:40):
Bryce Pucket is the young man who went from Kro
to Thomas County Central. I'm sorry to Brooks County, my apologies,
but I can tell exactly why. Bryce Pucket's dad put
out a statement, for lack of a better word, that said, look,
there's been a lot of speculation about why my son

(17:01):
Bryce transferred from Kroe to Brooks County, and it was
pretty simple. They have a daughter that's going to be
going to Valdosta State University Mark and it's obviously with
the family wanting to make sure that they can visit
her and for her to be able to.

Speaker 2 (17:17):
You know, I guess drive back and forth.

Speaker 1 (17:19):
It's a lot easier to go from Equipment to Valdosta
just to what a fifteen minute drive down eighty four
than it is to go from k Row to Valdosta.
So that's what mister Bucket said gave the reason for
Bryce transferring to Brooks County. So I don't think there's
really any good quarterback conniversary there Martin.

Speaker 3 (17:40):
Well, that's what brook County needed, right, It's another good player.
They're loaded over there.

Speaker 1 (17:45):
Well, Mark and listen, you know, and this is the
next topic we're going to move into. We just released
the top ten quarterbacks for South Georgia.

Speaker 2 (17:56):
How about Brooks County having two on the top ten list.

Speaker 3 (18:03):
That's crazy. They again, we talked about it. They're loaded
obviously at that position, at wide receiver, skilled position as well.
I know they have a bad taste in their mouth.
They didn't quite get the job done last year. But
do not sleep on Brooks County for this year.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
Junior Burroughs and.

Speaker 1 (18:23):
The Bryce Pucket going to be battling it out for
the starting You know. Of course, you got Junior Burroughs
who led Brooks County to the state championship game appearance.

Speaker 2 (18:32):
He obviously has done a heck of a job.

Speaker 1 (18:35):
And now you've got Bryce Puckett coming in already receiving
a lot of attention from colleges, even though he's truly
has not been a starter yet for anybody. Just goes
to show you how high obviously the college recruiters are
on him. So again we'll talk a little bit more
about him in just a little bit. But Robert Tallart
go Peach County Trojans, He coach Westbrook, you know, coach

(18:58):
Maurice Westbrook, Mark responsible for a lot of that, a
lot of that success at where I don't want to
Robbins rather, and he's now doing the same thing over
at four Valley with Peach County.

Speaker 3 (19:08):
Great coach. You're exactly right. Gosh, it one of Robbins.
I think he was played for it or finally want
it there, but you know it was in the finals
a number of years in the road. Beet did an outstanding.

Speaker 1 (19:18):
Job, Evan Reese tells us. So this must have just
broke Phil. Have you heard the news about GHSA voting
to approve the new playoff seating.

Speaker 2 (19:28):
I knew that that.

Speaker 1 (19:29):
Was in the talks, but that's something that obviously I've
got to I've got to check into as soon as
the show's over and look and see. I know that
they were talking about that, and that's another thing that
a lot of people that has been at the top
of a lot of people's list. Mark, you know, trying
to get the playoff seating to where you know you've

(19:52):
got you gonna try. Well, you want to ride to
a board a situation level we had last year in
Class five A, when you got Lee County and Milton
basically what was thought it to be the top two
teams in the states.

Speaker 2 (20:02):
You're remaining in the playoffs ta, you.

Speaker 1 (20:04):
Know, facing off against each other in the semifinals instead
of the state title game. And hopefully this new playoff
seating is going to alleviate some of that.

Speaker 3 (20:14):
Well, I don't know. Last year, the way Milton played,
I don't think it wouldn't matter how they seated it.
I mean, Milton is just now as one of the
best high school football teams I've seen.

Speaker 2 (20:26):
No doubt.

Speaker 1 (20:27):
Uh Mark, how long you think we've got to the
start of football season?

Speaker 2 (20:31):
If you had to guess, what do you what do
you think?

Speaker 3 (20:35):
You mean? How many days?

Speaker 1 (20:36):
Yeah, come on, give me, give me, give me the answer.

Speaker 2 (20:38):
Don't don't don't don't add it up in your head.
Now what do you think?

Speaker 3 (20:41):
Oh, I'm trying added up in my head. I'm gonna say,
I'm gonna say forty five days, fifty days.

Speaker 2 (20:47):
Fifty days, you got it?

Speaker 1 (20:49):
Fifty three days, Roster Sutherland, Hello from Marietta. Fifty three
days until kickoff at Gainesville. You know, Mark, we've been
talking about some of these top season openers, and boy,
that's it's another good one.

Speaker 2 (21:02):
Marietta going to Gainesville.

Speaker 1 (21:04):
Cameron Duke of course come up to Marietta from Edgewater
in Orlando, Mark, and you can already tell that Marietta
much improved.

Speaker 2 (21:13):
They're excited about coach Duke.

Speaker 1 (21:15):
I know that our guy Flint went up there and
spent some time with coach Duke and Marietta and Roster Sutherland.
It sounds like the folks in Marietta I want to
get back to their ways of state championship days from
what was it twenty nineteen?

Speaker 3 (21:32):
All right, yeah, so go ahead, Mark, Yeah, I was
gonna say, no, quiet, I'm trying to think when they won.
When was that twenty Nineteen's the last time they wanted
to know?

Speaker 1 (21:39):
I believe it's twenty nineteen that Marietta won the state championship.
You know, they had the big tidy end I think
his name was the Gilbert, the Eric Gilbert. And of course, yeah,
they of course have not been quite the team that
will not nearly the team that they were.

Speaker 2 (21:58):
Richard Morgan, longtime.

Speaker 1 (22:00):
Coach there of the Blue Devil, of course, stepped aside.
So we wish Cameron Duke the best of luck. Bruce
Carter checking in from Baker County. Prayers to Southwest Georgia
Academy losing an upcoming seventh the Creator JV player last night.

Speaker 2 (22:17):
Our thoughts and prayers go up to that young man
and his family. Eighte to here.

Speaker 1 (22:20):
I always hate to hear about that.

Speaker 2 (22:22):
Uh, that is terrible.

Speaker 1 (22:24):
Jamie Fraley seeger big fan of the show. I'm a
big fan of Jamie and she is Camden County's number
one fan.

Speaker 2 (22:33):
Checking in.

Speaker 1 (22:35):
Dietrick and Andrews. What's up Phil, Thomasville Bulldogs in the house.

Speaker 2 (22:39):
Woof, woof.

Speaker 1 (22:41):
We got well, that's gonna be something mare. We were
talking about thomas Kinny Central earlier. Thomasville is very improved.
Of course, we've got him as one of the top
three teams in their classification. We know Thomas County Central
is going to be right back near the top in
five A. You know, we talked a little bit about
this last week.

Speaker 3 (22:57):
Mark.

Speaker 2 (22:58):
That's that's a good thing.

Speaker 1 (22:59):
Seeing football alive and well across the board. In Thomasville,
the city of Thomasville.

Speaker 3 (23:05):
Great great city for football, Thomasville or Thomas County Central,
great rivalry, a lot of history there, for sure. Glad
to see that. And you know they're different classifications, but
that's a great rivalry. You can throw classifications out the window,
you can throw the records out the window. In that game,
anything could happen. And speaking of anything that happen, Phil,

(23:29):
I know you created the top ten quarterbacks in South Georgia. Yes,
so I'm sure that you probably have had to answer
some questions about that. Were those in any particular order?
Fiel on thatst Mark, I'm glad I'm to put you
on the spot with that, right, I beged.

Speaker 2 (23:51):
You would listen.

Speaker 1 (23:52):
No truth is I'm glad you asked me about that,
because the truth is they were not in order. But
you can't tell that to uh, to the folks who
look at that list. You know, I've been answering people
all day and that's okay.

Speaker 2 (24:08):
I love it.

Speaker 1 (24:09):
I'd rather people be asking questions and engaging with us
than not. But to answer your question not necessarily in
order of how good they were. But you know what
it's like. I teld some of the other folks. Hey,
I'll play along. But Jalen Johnson, Mark, just so you'll know,
is at the number one spot, and there could be

(24:31):
an argument for him being the top quarterback in the state,
I'm sorry, in South Georgia and maybe even the state.
But of course this is this list is for top
quarterback talent in South Georgia.

Speaker 3 (24:43):
Yes, so you said that is not in any particular order.

Speaker 2 (24:48):
No, not, not really.

Speaker 1 (24:49):
And look here's the thing. You know, we're doing our
top ten, you know, rankings by position. Now I stepped
away from our normal rankings because Mark, I saw just
how you know, how good a group of quarterbacks we
had assembled this year in Southern Georgia and South Georgia. Again,
you know, I talked about it earlier when we started
the show. You've got most of the time, you've got

(25:11):
the a tension going to your top quarterbacks up at
h in Metro Atlanta of course, and up in North Georgia.
And you don't have one or two in South Georgia.

Speaker 2 (25:23):
But Mark, this group that we've.

Speaker 1 (25:25):
Got this year, you know, from Jase Johnson at Lowns
we talked about the two quarterbacks.

Speaker 2 (25:32):
At Brooks County. We got Cam hill Mark.

Speaker 1 (25:34):
There's some people calling Cam hill the quarterback at Thomasville,
the best quarterback in the state. I've seen quite a
few people mention that Cohen Lawton.

Speaker 2 (25:43):
Quarterback up at call Quit.

Speaker 1 (25:44):
So I'm just kind of going over some of the
names that made our top ten lists. But all of
those quarterbacks that I just mentioned are gonna be playing
on Saturdays when their high school career is over.

Speaker 3 (25:53):
So for everybody listening, Phil, you are going to release
a North Georgia list, and we're going to do that
next week. That's right, and we can have some fun
debating that and maybe who is the best overall quarterback
in Georgia. So I hadn't seen all of the quarterbacks
play on that South Georgia list. I've had the opportunity

(26:14):
to see Jace Johnson at Lomb's. I know he's He's
a good looking kid, has tons of talent. I had
a chance to see the kid at Worth County, very
good quarterback, throws it around, you know they Hammond coach
Hammon at Worth County runs a you know, he runs

(26:35):
an offense, a high powered offense. I think I was
talking to him and he mentioned that I think they
had like a three game stretch they didn't punt. I mean,
think about that for a minute. Three games and you
do not punt.

Speaker 2 (26:48):
That's workouting. Yeah, yeah, that's almost I heard of.

Speaker 3 (26:53):
Yeah, it's crazy. So of course, and I'm familiar with
Jalen Johnson at TCC. I hear a lot about the
Tiff County kid, but I have not had the opportunity
to see him. Phil, what do you know about that guy?

Speaker 1 (27:07):
So Mark talking about Damian Dixon, he'll be a junior.
He impressed me. We did. We covered the Calkwood County
Tiff County game last year.

Speaker 2 (27:20):
It was our game of the Week for that particular week.

Speaker 1 (27:23):
Canquit and Tiff anytime they get together, it's gonna be
quite a match up. Jeff Lilton has done a great
job at TIFFs since taking over there, Mark, and we
had a chance to cover that, to do that game
last year, that's the first time I'd had a chance
to see Damian Dixon. Mark, and I want to tell you,
Jiff County lost the game, but Damian Dixon led Tiff

(27:43):
County's offense up and down the field, and I gotta
be honest with you, he's one of the best pure
passing quarterbacks. Mark I seen in a long time at
the high school level, so much poise in the pocket.
Let's just for receivers, you know, list their their route
routes developed, and that's just kind of a lot of

(28:06):
the characteristics you don't see any young quarterback. But Damian
Dixon got all the tools, jewel threat quarterback and run
it if.

Speaker 2 (28:14):
He needs to.

Speaker 1 (28:15):
But he also provides such a presence as a pocket passer,
very unique quarterback.

Speaker 2 (28:21):
I'm a Damian Dixon believer.

Speaker 1 (28:23):
And then of course I kept up with him the
rest of the season, Mark, and he is the real deal.
And just go to thinking you last year he was
a sophomore, so he'll be a junior this year. And
then by the time he's getting ready for his senior season, Mark,
he's obviously gonna be you know, have the skills refined,
and he'll be leading tiff County, which I think will

(28:44):
be very improved this year.

Speaker 2 (28:45):
And no telling you know what they're going to be
able to do next year.

Speaker 3 (28:49):
Well, I no feel you're you're a big advocate. You
feel that these teams will go as their quarterback goes. Yes,
I do, And based on that, look like then you're
feeling Ti Tiff County is going to be a formidable
opponent this year.

Speaker 2 (29:06):
Mark, I do.

Speaker 1 (29:07):
I think they're gonna be better than people are giving
them credit for. One of the things Mark, I like,
is there in this Region one six A which has
got is much balance.

Speaker 2 (29:18):
And parody then i've seen in a while.

Speaker 1 (29:23):
I just don't think, you know, Cauk what's probably gonna
be the odds on favorite. They're the defending region champion.
Lounges has got some question marks. Now I think Adam
Carter is gonna do you know, and I only get
off too far so, but my point being that that
Region one six s A has just got it's so
balanced that I think right now, to try to predict

(29:46):
the order of finishing Region one six says, it's really
a crapshoot.

Speaker 3 (29:49):
Mark, Yeah, I agree with you. I think normally or
there may be a couple of teams that could be
clear cut, but this year, I do agree with you
there's a lot of parody there. I also don't think
you can ever call Camden out first year head coach there.
That community will rally around that team. So yeah, I agree,

(30:12):
I think Region one six A could be could be
a coin toss.

Speaker 2 (30:15):
Yeah, one hundred per hundred percent.

Speaker 1 (30:19):
Again, we want to welcome y'all's comments, whatever you think
about our list, our top ten South Georgia quarterbacks, not
across the entire state. It is our top ten South
Georgia quarterback list. And again, I think it's the best
group collectively that we've seen in South Georgia in some time.

(30:40):
The very reason I thought it would be a good
idea to rank them or to to post the top ten.
And boy's gotten a lot of comments and we appreciate that.

Speaker 3 (30:49):
So Phil, I'm going to go ahead and just in
thinking about next week the North Georgia list, will you
be challenged and coming up with that list or there
ten that you think there's just a clear cut. And
I got to ask you to sing for this list
when you were putting this list together, because I'm sure

(31:10):
you've been getting comments. Who did you leave off of
this list? Based on the comments that you've gotten, Beeble like, Phil,
what are you doing? You left this person off?

Speaker 2 (31:20):
You left off? Okay, I'm glad you ask.

Speaker 1 (31:24):
And here's the thing about a top ten list, y'all
talking with Justin Kyll Haley about it today, obviously, Justin
call Haley goes to a lot of football games.

Speaker 2 (31:34):
Justin knows this stuff, very.

Speaker 1 (31:36):
Knowledgeable about a lot of different programs. And you know,
Justin was one of the one who kind of called
me to task and said, look, I think I think
you've got the kid at oh gosh, where's he?

Speaker 2 (31:51):
Well, you got Tate snell Grove at Bowwood for one.

Speaker 1 (31:55):
Uh, and he was one that I had thought about,
really strongly considered putting in the top ten. Mark, Uh,
Tate Snilbrove. Got to remember, he was the the lounges
from a loungep You remember that, Yes, I did.

Speaker 2 (32:10):
And so look here's another thing.

Speaker 1 (32:14):
Just because you're a quarterback at a private school, that
should not exclude you from being, you know, considered one
of the top quarterbacks. And it really had no bearing
whatsoever in my thought process. And then you've got the
young man at Deerfield Windsor somebody helped me out with
his name. Again, another private school quarterback. But now let

(32:38):
me clarify something. So I did get some flak for
leaving off Steven Cannon from Benedictine. However, Mark, we're gonna
have to have yet another regional top ten. So let me, Well,
let me ask you, Mark, So, Yeah, I.

Speaker 2 (32:56):
Got you, Justin, I'll and i'll uh Justin.

Speaker 1 (32:58):
Was I right about him lant laying skills? Is it
different windsor let me know about that.

Speaker 2 (33:04):
While I'm asking Mark.

Speaker 1 (33:06):
So, when I was thinking about putting this top ten
list together for South Georgia quarterbacks, I was obviously thinking
about Benedictine.

Speaker 2 (33:14):
But they're gonna have to be in a region of
their own.

Speaker 1 (33:17):
I mean, would you consider Savannah Southern Georgia?

Speaker 3 (33:22):
Well, you know my philosophy. I mean, I think once
you get out of Atlanta, you know everything is South Georgia. Look,
nobody in Middle Georgia you thought about, Yeah, seas up
in Middle Georgia. Are you glad to have another category
feel exactly South Georgia Georgia? Wait a minute, now you

(33:42):
gonna I think you're gonna have to just pick ten
and roll.

Speaker 1 (33:47):
Yeah, we're definitely gonna because Stephen Cannon from Benedictine certainly
deserves to be on the list. And again I heard
from Stephen today and I reached out to him, said, look, Steve,
and I certainly didn't forget about you, but uh, he's
a great quarterback.

Speaker 2 (34:02):
No, doubt.

Speaker 1 (34:03):
But I just got to thinking when I was putting
this list together for top for the top quarterbacks in
Southern Georgia, I guess I'm thinking more of the I
seventy five corridor more in south central Georgia.

Speaker 3 (34:16):
Back.

Speaker 1 (34:18):
I love to hear our viewers too, Yeah, I love
to hear our viewers and tell me what you guys
think about that, because I mean, you could say South Georgia. Man,
that's a wide swath of geography or a large just
swath of the state.

Speaker 3 (34:29):
It is that, but you know, the population is so dense.
If you say Atlanta and you go, you know, a
forty five miles or sixty mile radius, even you know
you're getting over in Gwinette and Cobb and Cherokee and
over to Carrollton and all the way down to mcdonnaugh.
I mean a lot of people, a lot of players

(34:53):
in that area. So once you get south of mcdonnah, yeah,
I don't know. I always will say South Georgia. But
obviously a lot of good quarterbacks in the state of Georgia,
that's for sure, because you have to make like four
or five lists now for they on the list.

Speaker 1 (35:12):
Now, look and here's the thing about it again kind
of goes by saying this state is loaded with really
good quarterbacks. Like I tell you, obviously, I'm going to
come up as part of our top ten overall position
rankings mark. So at some point, you know, we're gonna
come up with the top ten quarterbacks period and uh

(35:32):
we don't.

Speaker 2 (35:33):
You know, that's gonna be quite a quite a challenge.

Speaker 3 (35:37):
That'll be a tough one. I'll let you have the
beauty of that is there's probably somebody out there that
nobody knows about that, you know, once this season gets
moving and we'll go like, well, hey, where did this
person come from?

Speaker 1 (35:50):
Justin call Haley says, and let you kind of put
you in perspective. Justin says, there's four cardinal directions. I
guess east, west, north, south is at Benedicta is East Georgia.
And that's kind of what I was thinking, you know, Benedictine,
that would be more of a coastal eastern Georgia. But uh,
but anyway, let's talk about againing this list real quick,

(36:13):
just kind of finishing up some names. How about Brooks
County Mare having two players on the list.

Speaker 2 (36:20):
I mentioned Junior Burroughs.

Speaker 1 (36:23):
Of course, led Brits County to a state championship appearance
last year, and then you got Bryce Puckett.

Speaker 2 (36:29):
Josh mcfather is.

Speaker 1 (36:30):
Going to have some kind of decision to make there
trying to sort that out, Mark, he is.

Speaker 3 (36:35):
Then, Phil, let me ask you this. You got you
got those ten quarterbacks? What what teams on on that list?
Do you think you have a legitimate shot and went
in a state championship?

Speaker 2 (36:51):
That's a good question.

Speaker 1 (36:53):
Uh, Thomas County Central and Jalen Johnson, cam Hill and Thomasville,
Brooks County, lending Worthy at Worth County, and then I
would say probably Jonathan Aisome at Mitchell County.

Speaker 3 (37:15):
Yes, not fair enough. You don't give a cockod and Lounges.
You never know, maybe they could get on a roll six.
A's gonna be very very competitive. But that's that's fair enough.
I'll probably put you on the spot a little bit there, but.

Speaker 2 (37:28):
No, that's okay, Yes, all right, I love it.

Speaker 1 (37:30):
I love it.

Speaker 3 (37:31):
Yeah, yeah, just curious.

Speaker 2 (37:34):
Yeah, and what do you guys think?

Speaker 1 (37:35):
So Mark asked me that I gave you what the
teams that I thought. Joshua Chase Guarante says he thinks
it's Brooks TCC and Lowndes. Of course, Joshua now is
big Lounges fan. He's probably our number one Lowndes fan.
I annoint Mark, I annoint somebody of our of our viewership,
our regular viewers, that team's number one fan.

Speaker 3 (37:58):
Right, Well, Lenes has probably got multiple number one fans.
I mean, because listen, Lannes has got the fans. I
don't know that there's there's a better place or better
home fan base than Lowndes High. There may be some equal,
but I don't think there's any better. Let's just just
be real about that. The concrete palace and that home

(38:21):
side is always packed, and does it get loud there?
So I don't know. You may have to have a
couple of two or three number one fans for Lambs.

Speaker 1 (38:30):
Now, you're right, you're right proportionally, you know, we got
so many people that support the program. Obviously LG's got
to be it there. My buddy, Larry godwins the SHU
get LG. Yeah, yeah, can't you get LG? Larry, Larry's
our buddy. But justin Kyle Hayley says he didn't think
any of these teams will win a state truthfully, not

(38:52):
even Brooks County. Jeremy Jones says Jonathan Eyson will be
a top ten athlete in Georgia this year. Yeah, I'll
tell you, Mark, He's probably the guy that a lot
of people when I put this list down probably said who.
But he is Mitchell County's quarterback. He's also, I believe,
a two time state champion in track.

Speaker 3 (39:15):
How about that incredible athlete?

Speaker 2 (39:17):
Obviously, yeah, one hundred percent.

Speaker 1 (39:19):
Donnie Jarvis says he thinks it's Bruce County, Thomas County
Central in calquit Look, I think that obviously a lot
of people probably.

Speaker 2 (39:31):
Wondering why I left Cauwood Now. Nothing against color. I
think Sean Callahan is doing a great job at call
with Mark.

Speaker 1 (39:36):
I just think it's gonna be tough for anybody from
South Georgia right now to win the state title out
of six.

Speaker 3 (39:40):
Eight A lot of truth in that segment. I do
think maybe a couple of other teams in South Georgia
can make a run and get hot. Then you know,
Loe l added, you only got to beat a team once, right,
you don't. You're not gonna have to beat them more
than once. But I do agree there's some teams up
in Northchill that have so much depth. There's so many

(40:02):
players up there. It will be difficult. Just looking at it,
Grayson's gonna have a very good opportunity to repeat. They
are loaded. Buford is loaded, very They're gonna be very tough. Carrollton,
I think is gonna be very good again. I know

(40:22):
everybody talked about ju Ju all the time. I wouldn't
be surprised if Carrollton doesn't get back to a state championship.
But just like right off the top of my head,
those three teams will be very difficult to deal with.

Speaker 2 (40:37):
Agree Colin Still, I can't.

Speaker 3 (40:40):
Forget Colin Zhill. I think Colin Hill will be That's
another team. They've got a few key players. And look
at the high school level, a player like Deuce I
believe it's Deuce Gerald's, isn't it as that is? That
kid is unbelievable. He can impact the game by him

(41:01):
and Grayson's got some of those kids, so I wouldn't
be surprised. I do think South Georgia team could make
a run. I wouldn't be surprised if they make a run.
I agree with you, I'll be surprised if they win
it off.

Speaker 1 (41:17):
Yeah, and again, you know, look, we're obviously you know
I followed Southern Georgia teams for most of our career.
Obviously we've become familiar with our North Georgia friends over
the last decade, well more so probably the last five years.
It's just really I think you start to see the
you know, the division of talent. Of course, you just

(41:38):
talked about it. Congwood County is a very good team.
You know, Lounges is a very good team. I just
don't know if they're gonna be able to hang with
the talent level of like you mentioned to Collins Hill
at Buford. But hey, funny they you know what they
said that about Jeff Aarons Campedy team what two years ago. Yeah,

(42:03):
they shocked the world when they defeated Mill Creek. Nobody's
given them a chance in that game.

Speaker 2 (42:07):
Mark.

Speaker 1 (42:07):
So one thing about those teams in South Georgia, Mark.

Speaker 2 (42:10):
We just talked about great coaches.

Speaker 3 (42:14):
That that can that will make a difference the home field. Yeah,
the South Georgia teams can win the corning toss and
play at home. All the South Georgia teams across all
classifications have a big advantage of playing at home because
these South Georgia fans come out to these games and
if you're talking about six, say whether you have to

(42:36):
go to the hog pen, you have to go to
Death Valley, you have to go to lounge. It makes
a difference. It makes a difference big time.

Speaker 2 (42:49):
That home. Yeah, it really does. Look I said before, Mark,
you know, go back to Jeff hare In for a second.
I as Jeff here.

Speaker 1 (43:00):
You remember we did the Jeff here and Coaching Show
when he was still at Camden. I asked Jeff hair
And what was the hardest place he ever took a
team into that he ever played, you know, a road
game at And he did not hesitate, Mark, Jeff here
and said Cochwood County was the hog sat Yeah, yeah, sure,

(43:25):
said you know, the sidelines are very narrow. You don't
have much room between you know, the players, and of
course the wall where the stands begin. He said, you know,
the fans are right on top of you, and of
course they have a lot of those sound effects that
they play. The fans themselves are loud, you know, some

(43:45):
of the best.

Speaker 2 (43:46):
Fans of anywhere in the state.

Speaker 1 (43:49):
So, Mark, there's a lot of different factors why the
hog pen is one of the toughest places to play.

Speaker 2 (43:55):
In the state it is.

Speaker 3 (43:57):
So they just need to win that coin top Still,
that's that's what it needs to happen. Get into dance
and win the coin toss.

Speaker 1 (44:05):
Absolutely so, Phil and we may come back to the qub's.

Speaker 3 (44:10):
But there's something I thought i'd just throw out here today.
I'm sure if you're a sports fan and if you
didn't hear about it, but the Los Angeles Lakers got
sold for ten billion dollars. That is a big number
when you think about it. I never thought a professional

(44:30):
basketball team would sell for that. The Washington Commanders sold
for six billion football wise, and I think everyone had said, well,
the Dallas Cowboys are the most valuable franchise in all
of professional sports, so I don't know what their value
would be now. So I got to thinking, Okay, what

(44:53):
is the most valuable high school football program in the
state Georgia. I feel like I know who number one is.
I think there's all kinds of factors that could go
into number two. But if I were asking, you, feel
what team is the most valuable for entertainment purposes?

Speaker 2 (45:18):
Now we're just terril, right, But what's the.

Speaker 3 (45:22):
Most valuable high school football team in the state of Georgia.

Speaker 1 (45:28):
Well, let me before I answer that, let's kind of
let's kind of apply some some criteria. Now, I would
take into account mark, facilities, supports, historical significant you see
what I'm saying here, I'm just talking.

Speaker 3 (45:48):
At season ticket holders, right, attendance. You know, you look
at all those things that add value to a team.

Speaker 4 (45:58):
Because all those are assets. Consider assets and yeah, considered assets.
So and obviously winning the more you win, and the
more the more you're going to be able to generate,
quite frankly, the more value you'll be.

Speaker 3 (46:12):
Able to create. I personally say, you'd probably have to
put Beauford at the top, but I would a good
choice after Beauford. I feel like you really would have
to look at these South Georgia teams when you think
about the home field, the fans buying season tickets, the
way they're supporting the community, and of course yes they win,

(46:36):
but the consistency of these South Georgia teams. But you know,
I thought this was very interesting. You know, hey, what
what would be the most valuable? I agree, I think
it would have to be Beauford.

Speaker 2 (46:47):
Mark. You bring up a great point.

Speaker 1 (46:48):
The number two team and I immediately go to a
particular team, uh for my number two, pick.

Speaker 2 (46:59):
At one that lounges lounge.

Speaker 3 (47:03):
Yeah, okay, yeah, I would say lounge, and they could
make a make a point to be number one. Again.
Part of that is I don't know the exact number
of season ticket holders they have now, but I know
I know in the past that that numbers approach five thousand.
But look, let's face it, they I think loms probably
has the most season ticket holders of any high school

(47:28):
in the state of Georgia. I mean, Phil, would you
say that's safe to say? Yes? So fact you're in
season ticket holders facilities. They continue to upgrade the facilities
at loungs. They have great facilities there, so they do
check a lot of boxes. I think you look across

(47:48):
town and I think the thing where Valdosta is is
to get those season ticket holders back up. They have
tradition there. They have the winning tradition there still the
winning is high school football program in the country. I
do think now, Phil, if I'm not correct, there's a
few other teams now that are walk within a game
or two because they had to forfeit all those games.

(48:10):
So right, look, I'm rooting for Valdosta Georgia or Valdosta
High School to keep winning. We need them to hold
on to that spot.

Speaker 2 (48:20):
I think it's a massline mark.

Speaker 1 (48:21):
You went up there to massline and I think they're
I think they're in the single digits mark behind Valdosta.

Speaker 3 (48:29):
And now, well, I can, I can. I can tell
you one thing. That is a great little community. It's
a very small I mean there's only twenty thousand people
in the town and it's a very small community. But
everybody rallies around that football team. I mean even the
surrounding counties attend and season tickets to that. I mean

(48:52):
everybody's on board. And listen, they want it. They want
that number one spot. They talk about it, they think
of about it. Look, I went to the game where
Valdosta went up and paid played Maslen. Look, Valdosta should
have won the game, but the quarterback got nicked up
the second half and just wasn't the same. And people

(49:14):
can say, well, yeah, yeah, yeah, but look, Valdosta was
winning that game. First half, they played very well, but
Todd Robinson got banged up, got his ankle banged up,
and I mean just wasn't the same. And again as
you always say, especially at high school level, if your
quarterback goes out or is banned up most likely unless

(49:37):
you're Brooks County this year, you just don't have somebody
that can just readily come in and take his place.
No right to be caught. But anyway, I do think that, yeah,
I agree, Lounges would probably be number two. But I
think that's an interesting thing to look at, you know,
especially where the world's going today, because I do think

(50:00):
at some point in il the high school players are
going to get paid yep, and it's going to be okay.
What high schools are high profile can leverage their brand
if you will, and which you see it now, to
leverage the brand to raise money for the program so

(50:20):
that you can feed the players, so you can have
the best equipment that's out there, so you can have
the best facilities. It all boils down to bringing in revenue,
the ability to generate revenue.

Speaker 1 (50:35):
I tell you, are you really got me to thinking
on thiss And we're getting some interesting feedback from our
view or for our listeners, well I guess they are
viewers and listeners.

Speaker 2 (50:44):
But so we're bar through it out.

Speaker 1 (50:48):
If you had to put the value on high school
teams in the state.

Speaker 2 (50:55):
And you know, we're just having fun with it.

Speaker 1 (50:56):
Guys, don't don't get dead to get carried away. But
you have to up and think for a second when
we're not just talking about the winningest football team.

Speaker 2 (51:05):
And Mark, I don't. I don't think that's what you
had in mind when you.

Speaker 1 (51:08):
When I approach this subject, right, No, no, not the
winning no you.

Speaker 3 (51:12):
I mean, yeah, you need to be able to have
you need to be a winning program, sure, but I
think a big factor is season ticket holders, facilities, all
those kinds of things.

Speaker 1 (51:24):
Yeah, so let me tell you again, because this has
really got my wheels turning. Here, guys, let's let us
let us get your top five.

Speaker 2 (51:31):
How about that?

Speaker 1 (51:32):
And you know we can probably you know, talk about
this for for a few more minutes. But I'll tell
you who comes into number three. Mark, I think you'll
probably agree.

Speaker 2 (51:41):
And that's Games.

Speaker 3 (51:44):
Okay, Yeah, getting out of six, say games will does
check a lot of boxes. They have great, great, uh
great supporters of that program. I'm sure they're season ticket
holder base. A lot of people turn out for those games.
So yeah, I agree, it's up there. And then I
think Thomas County Central is another one. With everything that's

(52:07):
going on there, a lot of history in that program,
a lot of championships that coach Pilcher won there. Their
facilities will be second to none once they finish up everything.
I'll be honest with you. I think once you in Rome,
we can't forget.

Speaker 2 (52:25):
About It's just about the list on my list, yep.

Speaker 3 (52:29):
So I think once you I think in Atlanta, it's Beauford.
I think once you get away from if you start
throwing other teams in the mix, I think all the
South Georgia teams. There's a lot of lot they check
a lot of boxes. Gainsville in Rome and I would
say Carrollton, you know, would have to be in that mix.
You know, if you're thinking about the last ten years,

(52:52):
if you're talking about the last twenty years, twenty five years,
I really think it it switches down to South Georgia.

Speaker 1 (53:03):
You know, you're right, Mark, and I would probably include
Calwood County.

Speaker 2 (53:08):
And we got to remember now again we're talking about value.

Speaker 1 (53:12):
You know, Calwood County built that, you know, Mark, they
were one of the first programs. We got to remember
to build an indoor practice facility. They've had that thing forever.
It seems like, right, yeah.

Speaker 3 (53:24):
That's well, that's correct. You know again, you know Rush
Props did a lot there. Whether you like him or
don't like him, right, he was certainly ahead of the game.
I mean he was feeding his team's you know, breakfast,
lunch and dinner, had him traveling on the nice buses,
the away games, building an indoor, getting the facilities upgraded,

(53:47):
doing a lot. But yeah, I agree, I mean again
I say South Georgia has more. You know, we're talking
about rankings. Can any of the are any of the
six eight teams and I'm saying six now going to
compete for a state championship? They'll certainly compete in terms
of value, there's no question.

Speaker 2 (54:06):
Well, the reason I thought about call quick mark.

Speaker 1 (54:09):
You know, they built that indoor facility, if I'm not mistaken,
with all private money.

Speaker 2 (54:16):
They didn't have to use any of the tax dollars.
Is that right?

Speaker 3 (54:21):
Well, I think they turfed their field with all private money.
I do think they use some tax dollars.

Speaker 2 (54:26):
For these Okay, okay, all right, we have a lot
of support.

Speaker 3 (54:29):
For that team. And yeah, you know here's another thing
to throw out. This is something we can look into again.
As we're just having fun. But hypothetically, say you're you're
having a draft for high school football players. If you're
a kid very talented, where would you if you could

(54:50):
go play anywhere? Where would you want to go play?

Speaker 2 (54:55):
And again we're talking about high school teams.

Speaker 5 (54:57):
Yeah, yeah, well hypothetical, like you know, if if you know,
if you were, hey, you know how a lot of
times you'll have professional players.

Speaker 3 (55:09):
They talk about Green Bay a lot as a good
place to play. You talk about Kansas City as a
good place, a good team to play for. I mean,
you know, if you were saying, hey, I'd like to
go play at.

Speaker 1 (55:22):
X, Well, let me throw this out and I think
this really puts what you're talking about in a perspective. Here.
You've got to remember, Mark, there were two young men
from Milwaukee who transferred to Milton. No connection, They were

(55:42):
not at the same team, they were not you know,
coming from the same team, but they came from Milwaukee,
and obviously, you know, there was a reason that they
wanted to go to Milton. And I believe firmly that Hey,
that's that's the reputation that Milton has built Mark, that

(56:04):
Milton has built up that reputation that they are a
top flight school, great place to live. Here's another thing
got take into consideration. You know, great area that you're
moving into. You I lived up there for ten years,
you know, in for South County. It's a great place,
great schools, and you know there's a lot, a lot
of positives up there. So that's something just something that's

(56:29):
taking in consideration. You know, when you look at two
kids coming from Milwaukee, no otherwise, no connection, that both
wanted desire to go to Milton High School, I got.

Speaker 3 (56:40):
To be totally honest. Well, first of all, Milton, you know,
Country has done a great job and they've created a
great program. Again, I think is if you're considering like
over a twenty year period, you know, I don't know
that Milton is in that conversation that said, if you're
thinking of the last you know, three four or five years,

(57:04):
Milton's in that conversation. Uh, if I'm in Milwaukee, how
do you hear about Milton? I know they're nationally ranked,
So to me, I feel like there's got to be
some tie somewhere for those Well you understand it as

(57:24):
there was no they just randomly said or not randomly,
they looked at national rankings or whatever and said, hey,
I want to go to Milton.

Speaker 2 (57:33):
Yeah. Yeah, they were not from the same school. You know,
one's are running back once a quarterback.

Speaker 1 (57:40):
Now it is worth pointing out, by the way, Michael
Baxter speaking of Milton, says, go Milton Eagles. So we
got Michael Baxter checking us out on the show today. Mike,
thanks for so much for being a.

Speaker 2 (57:51):
Part of the show.

Speaker 1 (57:52):
And Michael, maybe you can chime in here. But you know, no,
there was no connection, Mark. It was two young men
from from from Wisconsin. I know Court or the braylyn
Albritton young men. Remember he announced on Christmas Day that
he was going to be transferring to Milton Milwaukee Academy

(58:14):
of Science, top notch quarterback. And then almost of the
day one month later, you had Derek Baker. Now I'm
sorry this this is this quarterback situation. That's it's a
hold on a second. But you have another, you had another.
You had another young man from from Milwaukee was a
running back. His name escapes me. But anyway, two players
from Milwaukee. No connection, and I don't believe I think

(58:36):
it was just very purely coincidence.

Speaker 3 (58:38):
Mark, Well, do we think by chance one of their
parents got a job offering the Great Atlanta area, was
there something? And then and then they said, hey, we
want to play at Milton, so let's make sure we
live in this particular area or whatever. Uh are we
saying that? Look, they just moved just for football. You know,

(59:01):
you got to think about that. I mean, you're gonna
move just for football. You got to make a living,
You got to get by. I mean, I guess that's
a big difference in that if your parent is getting
transferred to the Great Atlanta area and then you've got
to pick out a school in that area or is it.

(59:21):
Look I could have gone anywhere in the good old
US of eight, I chose Milton.

Speaker 2 (59:30):
Well again, yeah, I would have to say.

Speaker 1 (59:34):
You know, first of all, I think Florida probably is
not as desirable as it used to be because, again,
going with the transfer situation, it's just gotten crazy and
out of hand. Mark, I think the word is spread
about Florida, you know, and it just how crazy it is.
Of course, I guess California would be obviously another very
desirable place to live, but you know, California has got

(59:58):
some issues other than just high school football and I
don't know, it's a lot.

Speaker 2 (01:00:02):
Plus you know, you got to that's a that's a
long way.

Speaker 1 (01:00:04):
To travel, especially if you're on the East coast. Yeah,
I just I just said to answer your question, Mark,
I just think that the Atlanta air metro area, Milton,
I think it just checks a lot of the boxes
as a desirable place to live. And then the high
school football team happens to be pretty darn good as well.
Got to remember they were a top five nationally ranked
team too.

Speaker 3 (01:00:24):
Mark, Yeah, no, I agree. And of course here's the thing.
The cost of living in Milton is through the roof.
I mean it's the probably highest cost of living in
the state of Georgia. Yep, I would not be surprised.
So I mean, to me, I gotta feel I mean,
look just me. I think there there's a little there,
there's some there's some reasoning behind those kids coming there.

(01:00:47):
You know, That's that's what I would think. I got, you,
I got I'm sitting in Milwaukee. Am I moving my
family to Milton, Georgia? Are these kids seniors? You know
what year? They are? Junior seniors?

Speaker 1 (01:01:03):
So the running back is a senior, and I think Albritton,
you know, what they.

Speaker 2 (01:01:10):
Are both seniors. They are, they sure are.

Speaker 3 (01:01:13):
So yeah, I mean that's that's a lot transferring that
far to play one year of high school football. But
again that's where we live in today.

Speaker 1 (01:01:26):
Well so now let me just throw this out, Okay,
just trying to play a little devil's advocate here. So
you had you had Luke Nickel graduating again one of
the one of the top quarterbacks in the country. And
I'll still believe firmly to this day, Mark he may

(01:01:48):
be the best Courts high school quarterback I've ever seen
in my life.

Speaker 3 (01:01:53):
Well, he was a good one, you know my feelings.
I thought he was by far the best quarterback in Georgia.

Speaker 1 (01:01:57):
Yeah, one of the top quarterbacks in the country, no question,
correct now.

Speaker 3 (01:02:03):
But he's from that area, if I'm not mistaken.

Speaker 2 (01:02:07):
Yeah, yeah, lout Nichol is.

Speaker 1 (01:02:08):
Yes.

Speaker 3 (01:02:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:02:08):
So, But my point being that with with Milton being
a nationally ranked team, lout Nickel being one of the
top nationally ranked quarterbacks. You know the word spread, Hey,
lout Nichol is leaving Milton does not have a bona
fide number two quarterback. In other words, the quarterback position

(01:02:29):
was wide open, and I just think that the al
Britton family saw that and said, hey, transferring to mill
let's see we can go in and get a jain.
And the young man had some really good numbers. Of
course junior season up there in Milwaukee. Uh So, anyway,
I think that that was the reason. And I think
Derek Baker, you look from from Fort Law.

Speaker 2 (01:02:51):
From St.

Speaker 1 (01:02:52):
Thomas Aquinas, he was not going to be the starting quarterback.
So that's the reason he left you Roger Harriet's program.
And of course you and I know Roger Harriott at
the Saint Thomas. He's gonna tell it like it is, Mark,
and I think that's what he told the young man.

Speaker 3 (01:03:10):
Yeah, yeah, first class people at uh St. Thomas Aquinetas.
So you know, but how does that work out?

Speaker 5 (01:03:18):
Now?

Speaker 3 (01:03:18):
It turns out, I think Phil, you just put out
that Milton's name. Their startering is the kid from Saint
Thomas a quietus. So the people coming from Milwaukee, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:03:29):
The time you're left right, Yes, that's tough, ye.

Speaker 3 (01:03:33):
Dev, That's really tough because what you need is that
year of tape more than let me go be on
a nationally ranked team.

Speaker 5 (01:03:40):
You know.

Speaker 3 (01:03:41):
Again, all I know is moving Milton's very expensive it
costs a lot to live there, I know that. So
a lot a lot of things going on there. But anyway,
this will be fun. Phil. We need to pick back
up on this next week, maybe a little bit. We
do a little research about what team we think is
the most valuable and how that plays out, which you

(01:04:04):
know obviously.

Speaker 1 (01:04:09):
You know, I just gotta give you it's a lot
of fun talking about stuff like that.

Speaker 2 (01:04:13):
You know, I just under sitting here thinking what.

Speaker 1 (01:04:15):
Really got my wheels to turning? You know about, you know,
the most valuable team? And you know what, guys, let's
put it out here, Mark, So next week, you know,
let's talk about let's think about, you know, the draft,
just again a mock draft, having fun with it. You know,
who would be the top ten draft picks?

Speaker 3 (01:04:35):
Okay, top ten draft picks? Talking about that next week?

Speaker 2 (01:04:39):
Yeah, and it could be and it could be.

Speaker 3 (01:04:41):
Uh, as long as you're in high school, doesn't matter
if you're junior, freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior.

Speaker 2 (01:04:50):
That's right. So guys, I want to continue to encourage
y'all to take a look.

Speaker 1 (01:04:54):
Just because the show is only once a week, we've
got content going out every day at all of our platforms.
Be sure to like and share our content, guys. That
helps us a lot, and we would appreciate that and
continue to say. I can keep an eye on our
top ten position rankings. Again, this top ten South Georgia

(01:05:14):
quarterback ranking was kind of a kind of an aside,
But as far as the top ten position rankings, we're
gonna be putting those out every week, and obviously it's
gonna be generating a lot of conversation about, you know,
who the top ten players are, because I get to
tell you it's like I've been saying, the top ten players.

(01:05:37):
To try to rank the top ten players is a tough,
tough deal, but I'm up for it, Mark, I'm up there.

Speaker 3 (01:05:43):
You gonna come back next week with the top ten
from North Georgia. If that Field's gonna have East Georgia
and West Georgia, maybe Middle Georgia, South Central and next
thing you know, Field got Stield got eighty quarterbacks.

Speaker 2 (01:05:58):
Right, you're killing me, You're killing me.

Speaker 3 (01:06:02):
I love it.

Speaker 2 (01:06:02):
I love it, all right, listen football.

Speaker 3 (01:06:06):
I enjoyed it, and uh yeah, I'll be back next week.

Speaker 2 (01:06:09):
All right, Mark, thanks so much for joining us.

Speaker 1 (01:06:11):
All right, great man, all right, guys, thank you all
for joining us as well. We'll see y'all next Monday,
coming to you live from the Medlow Mushroom here in
Valdosta five point thirty two.

Speaker 2 (01:06:21):
Well, whenever we get through
