Speaker 1 (00:07):
And now it's time for extra your host Phil Jones.
All right, welcome in everybody. Phil Jones with you along
with MS producer Mazzani Matthews. Mazzani's going on.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Hey, yeah, everything is going good. I had a good weekend.
Just to just have some audio real quick. But how
how was your weekend? Film?
Speaker 1 (00:36):
It was good. It's really good. It's the weather was
nice and yeah, so I had a really good weekend.
But you know what, I always looked forward to coming
back on Mike more volume, if you would please, got
you check check one to check one, to check one
to a little more? I feel mine check one too? Okay, good, So,
(00:58):
but you know what, I'm always looking forward to come
out back on Mondays. I love Mondays. Yeah, I love Monday.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
I'm starting to love Mondays. I was always a Monday person,
but this gives me something to look forward to.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Got you Yeah, yeah, me too. So I've always been
a big Monday guy and everybody else comes in dreading Monday.
I come on, make get up and make the most
out of it, you know. So obviously doing the show
at night or in the afternoon certainly helps. But anyway,
got a lot to get to today. If you are
new to the show. Really, the rules are very simple,
(01:30):
if you want to call them rules. I mean, we
just simply ask for your input. I want you guys
to engage with us. We want to talk with you
as much as we want to talk to you. Okay,
So you guys, make your comments, make your voices heard.
Let us hear from you. And Mazzani and I will
both be going down and looking at who all is
(01:51):
in the house, who all is checking out the show,
and we will read your comments. If we overlook, you
keep coming back at me. Okay, I hate to go
back after the show, and I do this so many
times after the show is over, I'll come back, like tonight,
Later tonight, I'll go. I'll be going through the show
and calling through the comments, and nothing bothers me more
(02:11):
than when I miss one of y'all's comments.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
I know, especially when it's a good comment, you know,
something that's relatable, or you know something positive. I just
wish that I could have read it. And that's happened
to me a couple of times.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Too, exactly one hundred percent. So I don't want to
do that. So if I do, if you say something,
you know, if you comment on something and Mazanie or
myself do not acknowledge you come on back to us. Okay,
just just you know, because sometimes that's what it takes.
So with that being said, of course, we had the
super Bowl last night. I will be very transparent here. Okay.
(02:47):
I did not watch a single second of the super Bowl. Okay,
you don't seem to be surprised by that.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
Ah, I'm not really well when you say you're gonna
be transparent. The thing I thought was, Okay, you want
it Kansas City Chiefs to win again, but then you
said instead you just didn't watch it at all, which
I'm kind of surprised because I thought you love NFL
so much or you're just those huge football guys.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
I am. But you know, the thing is, we do
it for a living, you know, I do it for
a living, and so to be honest with you, I
just want to like watch movies at night, you know,
when I come home, you know what I mean, I
want to watch a movie or get on I get
on X a lot, you know, Twitter, whatever you wanna
call it. I enjoyed getting on Twitter, and you know,
(03:35):
in fact, I get consumed by Twitter. That's kind of
a bad happen. Yeah, you know on the Twitter what
I call the rabbit hole. But anyway, I just I
like to listen to sports as much as I like
to watch sports. So I listened to a little bit,
but I was mostly following the Super Bowl through Twitter
post and so. But it sounds like it wasn't really
(03:57):
a whole lot of suspense in the game.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
It definitely was not. But I was super happy for
the Philadelphia Eagles. I was rooting for the Eagles this time.
I wanted Jalen Hursts to win. I know, like, what
was it back in twenty twenty three for the Super Bowl?
I believe the Eagles were there and he didn't. The
Eagles didn't want that one at all. So it's nice
to see them go back and when this time. But
you're right, it did not leave much suspense at all.
(04:23):
Like by the second be halftime, I'm like, this is
a beat down.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
Yeah, And so did that surprise you? Yes?
Speaker 2 (04:30):
I wasn't because you know, Kansas City Chief Stay's been
doing so good for so long. I wasn't expecting it
to be kind of like, you know, what was it
like twenty four zero? Yeah, halftime, and I'm just like
I thought they were going to do something. I think
in a third quarter they finally got their first touchdown,
but I think that was like near the end of
the third quarter. Yes, so yeah, it was a little
bit surprising, but nonetheless, I'm still happy for the Eagles.
(04:53):
And then, you know, I believe it was the name
DeVante Smith. I believe he played with Georgia, So I
tried to keep it with some players. I don't know everybody,
but I was very happy for them, and they played great.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
Absolutely they did. So congratulations to the Philadelphia Eagles. I
hope they didn't burn the town down a whole lot.
You know, that's always the thing when when fans, you know,
they're I've never understood that either, by the way, yeah,
never have understood why you want to destroy your town.
I didn't know.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
I didn't know they really do that parades and stuff.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
Oh no, no. After the game, yeah, go and check out.
They were assaulting policemen on motorcycles. What I saw with
anything major, they were just like, you know, policemen were
coming through motorcycles and the guys were slapping up inside
the helmet. I mean it was it was major, but
still it's just people. The point being that people go
(05:43):
crazy when their teams win. And I never have understood
why you want to go ruin your town, destroy your.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Town, in New Orleans or in Philadelphia.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
Usually it's everywhere when your team wins the Super Bowl.
Oh yeah, no, meaning that usually the town whose fans
win the superwl So they were anticipating last night, you know.
I don't want to say violence necessarily, but they were
anticipating some trouble. So I think in both Philadelphia and
(06:12):
New Orleans, where the Super Bowl was held, they the
city officials greezed down the light poles so the people,
you know, couldn't climb to the top. That's what people
like to do.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
Oh yeah, okay, I climbed to the top.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
And I mean again, just crazy stuff. Anyway, Having said
all that, it was a big night for the Eagles
and big night for the Super Bowl, and I hope
you guys enjoyed it. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
I see a lot of people checking in here.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
Yeah who we got?
Speaker 2 (06:39):
We got Michael Baxter. He says, good evening, Phil and
crew and everyone on itg next Georgia, and of course
he says, go Milton Eagles, and he says, what a
win for the Philadelphia Eagles. I agree, so kind of
a win for him. Were you going for the Eagles
just because you know Milton are Eagles as well. Yeah.
We also have a Roster Sutherland checking in and he
says hello for Marietta met coach Duke last week and
(07:02):
was very impressed. He even wants to go to lunch soon.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
So Roster Sutherland of course talking about Cameron Duke. He
is the new head coach of the Marietta Blue Devils
and he comes from Edgewater in Orlando, and we wish
Cameron Duke the best. I know the guy really well.
In fact, we went down and did something with him
and his football team and it was sponsored by oh gosh,
(07:30):
what was the name of the company? Anna? Can you
hear me? Metro Diner. And there's Anna, Our operations director
bailed me out there. So yeah, Metro Diner our sponsor.
And yes they have a location down in Orlando. But
we went down there and filmed some stuff that they sponsored.
(07:51):
We appreciate that. But it featured Edgewater, or of Orlando,
the coach and some of his seniors and lo and behold,
here we are a couple of months later and he's
now now the head coach at BAVARIAA.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Oh wow, I think if this is the same team
we're talking about. I can't remember their name, but I
was at that well, I was at a shoot, yes,
at Metrodyner in Orlando.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
Yep, so that was it.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
I must say he's a great coach, yes, and he
kind of reminds me of like energy wise and like enthusiasm,
kind of like a coach Calhoun.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
Yeah, absolutely, absolutely so. Anyway, now let's segue before we
go to any more comments right now. Okay, one of
the things that we are going to talk about today,
By the way, coach Sly is going to be checking
in with us at five forty five. We look forward
to him and we'll bring him into this conversation. But
I want to get y'all's take on a couple of
(08:42):
things that I put out this past week on Facebook
on our Facebook page, and it's very much contingent on
you guys, Okay, and what it is is looking for
a couple of things, looking for the new coaches that
have just been hired, including Cameron Duke at Marietta. Okay.
(09:06):
I'm looking though, to see who are do you guys
think who are the coaches that are going to provide
the most impact right away. I'm not talking about four
or five years down the line. Yeah, I'm talking about
which new hires, as far as head coaches go, Which
(09:28):
new hires do you guys think are going to may
have the biggest impact on their team? Now, let me
take it back. I guess you could say maybe it's
a five year plan whatever, But I'm really looking to
see which of those coaches has got such help me
out here? What's the world I'm gonna go so?
Speaker 2 (09:46):
Influence? Influence, yeah, right, impact, yeah, and you.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
Know again that probably comes from coaches who have got
a history of doing this, right yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
So I want to get y'all's take because I'm I
know that Mazzani was just looking at the list that
we have, yeah, coaching hires, Mazzani, and that thing is
well over fifty names.
Speaker 2 (10:09):
Yeah, and it's filling up quick. It's filling up quick.
We still have some places, you know, that are still
looking for some coaches. But the more and more I
look at this list, and a week after week I
come back to it, you know, it's filling up with
new names. So can you tell us any of the
new names that have joined these teams or these programs.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
Yeah. So we've got in addition to Cameron, do you
course have got Adam kleyk who is the new head
coach there at Parkview. You've got Justin Newman who took over.
He comes from Carver Columbus. He was a big part
of their state CHANTL was at.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
Oh yeah, I'm saying that is big news because Carver
Columbus just won the state championship. And so what position
would did? What position coach was he at?
Speaker 1 (10:53):
So he was the defensive coordinator. Okay, I met Carver
and he comes over it takes over the new head
coaching position at Chris County. Oh wow, So congratulations. You
and I of course have been up there to Chris. Yeah,
and yeah, nice facilities, nice people up there.
Speaker 2 (11:08):
So but Lawrence Smith, coach Smith, where's he going?
Speaker 1 (11:11):
I don't know. I don't know. I think he's looking Okay, Yeah,
So hey, you know, hey, listen, is you know one man,
you know, window closes and another one off you know,
another opens is for opportunity, So we shall see with
we coach l as he is effectually known as yeah,
Mark Smith.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
So you said, who's taking his position now at Chris
County will coach.
Speaker 1 (11:30):
His name again, Justin Newman, and again he comes from Carver,
Columbus former defensive coordinator. By the way, it is worth adding,
we were the first to break the story on Justin
Newman taking the head coaching position at Marianna, and guys,
not to toot our own horn, or maybe it is
(11:51):
to toot our own horn, but we have we have
been the first to report on a couple of these
new hires, and so, by golly, if nobody else is
going to give us credit, then we got to give
credit to ourselves.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
Broke the news on coach Landa's thanks to coach Slve
for that one.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
Yeah, and then coach Yeah, you're right, got with an
assist from coach Sly helping us out there. Uh, Coach
Landa's new head coach at Alpharetta. Now you don't think
that guy's gonna have his work cut out for him.
And while we say that, guys, because obviously Alpharetta is
right next door, neighbors too, and sharing the Alpharetta school
(12:31):
space with none other than Milton, that's true. Okay, So
you got Milton, So so you got Alfaretda their new
coach and coach Landon orlandis uh, but you've got Adam.
I mentioned Adam Clarke, who's the new head coach at
Park View. By the way, we were also the ones,
the first ones to break that news. Yep, we were
(12:52):
the first ones to break the news of coach Daniel Williams.
Williams taking the headaching job at Norse one of Robins,
so he comes from Langston Hughes. Again, we were the
very first to break that news here in the state
of Georgia.
Speaker 2 (13:10):
And that's a lot of news, it is.
Speaker 1 (13:13):
And you know, listen, guys, we are blessed. We're blessed
to be able to do this because we're just a
little ig next even though we have grown and we're
continuing to grow, and we want to obviously get you guys.
Encourage you guys to subscribe to our newsletter. Doesn't cost
you a dime. Okay, it'll come to your email inbox
twice a week, so by all means, go and subscribe
(13:35):
to our email newsletter. You guys will love it. Chuck
full of information like what we talk about here on
the show, So get want to get y'all's sake though,
talking about these new coaching hires. Which three Let's just
go with three. You can really go with if you
want to go with five or whatever. This is a
(13:56):
nice round number. Who are the coaches that are gonna
have the most impact on their teams? On their new teams?
That is?
Speaker 2 (14:06):
I see a lot of great comments. I see a
lot of great comments coming in for sure.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
What you got?
Speaker 2 (14:12):
So, of course you know we have Joshua Chase Garne
josh one third of VICU nation, right, and he says
coach Clack will have the biggest impact out of the gate.
And I couldn't agree more. You know, we were talking
about that before the show got started. I named like
two of my choices, which was coach Boone Daniel Boom
(14:32):
Williams and coach Clack. Of course, so I agree with
you on that, that's a good one. And then Luke
Neilson says coach Vandergriff wherever he goes, will have a
huge impact. What do you think about that?
Speaker 1 (14:44):
Bill? Well, I got this a little sneaky on my
face because so I spoke to and and Luke by
the way, Luke Nelson a k A big Buford by
the way too, Uh, be sure to keep an eye
on Luke Nelson's son. Luke, what is your son's name?
(15:08):
Help me out. I'm sure he'll he'll, he'll shoot it
to us here in a second. Huh. Luke Nelson's son,
from all indications I'm getting, is an absolute stud of
a football player. So here's one that is one to watch.
And again I'm kind of segueing here from stuff that
we're talking about with these new coaches and the hires
(15:29):
and that kind of thing. But another story we're gonna
talk about here in just a minute is looking at
these rising stars that we put out the story last week.
Who are these rising stars to be on the lookout for?
His son is certainly one of them. Cannon. So, Luke
Nelson's son, Cannon Nelson, he is a gonna be a beast.
(15:50):
He already is, but he's really gonna be breaking through
his next two seasons there at Buford. So be sure
to keep an eye on that young man. And Louke,
you'll help us keep keep an update on your son.
But what I was gonna say was, so we're talking
about these coaching impacts, okay, and who is going to
have the biggest impact on which team? Okay, So we
(16:15):
have talked about a couple and you said you've got
the comments coming in. Yeah, so what you got, let's.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
Get Yeah, so Luc Nelson, he mentioned coach vandergar wherever
he goes, but also Jose Badia. He also mentioned the
coaches that we were talking about, Coach Adam Clark, I
mean Clack and coach Boone at Northside, one of Robins,
he says, because of the numbers there with the military
base there. So he's talking about numbers, you know, that
being an impact there because of their location. Let's see
(16:44):
who else we have. We have Robert Tayler saying, go
coach Westbrook at Peach County. He feels like he will
make big Brook.
Speaker 1 (16:53):
Yeah. Now let's back up for just for a second. Yeah,
O Marie Westbrook, this will be year number. What is
this gonna be year three or two for him? I
want to say this is gonna be year three. I'm
not mistaken. Somebody helped me out with that.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
Well, while why are you doing that? Did he a
question here? Let me scroll back up to it. I
thought it was an interesting question. I think it was
revolving around regarding the ady and someone resigning. Oh, here
we go, Joshua Chase Garanto. He says, also Phil Jones
(17:35):
and misproducer. What are you guys thoughts on the Jones
County situation with the ad and head coach both resigning.
Tell me a little bit about that, because I don't
really I'm not up to.
Speaker 1 (17:45):
Date on that, Okay.
Speaker 2 (17:45):
And that's where Jones County.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
Okay, Jones County. So you had you had coached Mike
Chastain and you had the former north Side coach Chad Alligood,
both stepped down. Okay. Now, so we've got a couple
of stories here that one and the Prince Avenue Christian
(18:10):
deal with coach Vandergrift. All right, So there's something with
both of those situations, a little bit more behind the
scenes than what you guys that we've all been told. Okay,
I can tell you I spoke with Mike Jestain and
there's some stuff that he asked me to keep close
to the vest, and I'm going to respect those wishes. Now.
(18:31):
Apparently things just did not work out, I know what
the head coach being there, Yeah, apparently there were some issues.
I guess people thought some of the Booster Club from Again,
this is me speculating it sounds like there was not
enough confidence in the way the direction the program was
(18:52):
heading from either the athletic director and the head coach.
And that was from the fan standpoint. Yeah, and look,
and actually I was talking with coach vandergriff about this
today and I'm gonna get to him in just a minute,
because these stories are related. Okay, in terms of the scenarios, guys,
(19:13):
I understand everybody wants to win a state championship.
Speaker 2 (19:17):
Yes, that's the main goal.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
It is, of course, it is, sure, it is everybody.
But you know what the reality is that nobody, you know,
not everybody can win. You're only gonna have one state champion. Yeah,
you can in every classification.
Speaker 2 (19:30):
That's true, That's very true. And it's a lot of
teams out there.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
Well, and you've got to remember, you know, this past year, Mazani,
we had these uh these reclassifications. We had the classifications
where you had you know, like two Region two five A,
Region seven five A. Okay, I mean those were super
tough regions. And remember, you're only gonna have one state
champion come out of each class to begin with. Yeah,
(19:55):
So you know that when you've got a region such
as Thomas County, Central Coffee.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
Lee Yeah kid me yeah, Tom.
Speaker 1 (20:07):
Wait so Thomas County, Central Lee County to Coffee County, Gosh,
I forgot Coffee County, want to Robin. I mean, these
are all really tough regions. So just to get out
of the region to make the playoffs, it's tough enough
(20:29):
more or less and much less to go. And when
I say championship, yeah, okay. So I'm just saying, guys,
bring a little bit of a dose of reality to
the party here and make sure you understand what you're
going on when your teams are going up against your coach,
you're going.
Speaker 2 (20:43):
Up against Yeah, it's gonna take some time.
Speaker 1 (20:44):
Right and with that many teams, Mazannie, you gotta you
gotta just hope that your your shoe falls and the
timing is right.
Speaker 2 (20:53):
Yeah. So do you think maybe the fans aren't giving
the coach enough time to make an impact or make
any changes within that.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
Well, I don't know if it's you know, the Booster club,
you know, because they're the ones that's probably going to
influence a decision for the Board of Education, of course,
But answer your question, there's obviously got to be some heat,
you know, that somebody somewhere is putting on board members
to say, hey, we we should be one in the
state championship now. And again this is speculation on my part.
Speaker 2 (21:21):
I was gonna say, how is their season, how is
the season this past season?
Speaker 1 (21:24):
So think they're respectable, and you know, we can look
it up real quick, but I can tell you guys again,
it's gonna be tough to simply get out of the region.
And if you're basing your success in the playoffs, if
you're basing that off of you know, this past season,
I mean, come on, give it a little time. Because again,
(21:47):
of all the great teams, and you know we're talking
about again five A is one of the toughest classifications
in the state. You got to give it. You got
to give it at least another year, two years, and
then there's no guarantee because you've got programs like in
five A again, Thomas County Central, they're going to be
(22:09):
absolutely loaded for bear this year.
Speaker 2 (22:11):
Again, Okay, this is Jones County Greyhound's.
Speaker 1 (22:14):
Right, the Jones County Greyhounds, right, all right?
Speaker 2 (22:16):
So overall they were ten and two, it's not bad.
And the region they were eight and one.
Speaker 1 (22:21):
How about that? You know, not doing a good enough job.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
I'm looking it up.
Speaker 1 (22:29):
Are y'all kidding me? So? I think it was a
deal where they weren't going to support Mike Chastain, and
coach Allen Good said, well, you know what, if he's
not gonna be supported, I'm not either. So now a
couple of things here. I am supposed to follow up
with Mike Chastain and get it more of a clarific
almost following there, and get more of a clarification on
(22:50):
what's happening there. You can talk a whole lot. When
I spoke to him last week that okay, he said, Phil,
there's some things I can't say right now. Let me
get past this week and we again, and we'll come
back and talk next week, meaning this week now. Also,
I mentioned I spoke to Greg Vandergriff earlier today, same
type of situation. Now, no one's necessarily and this is
(23:16):
feels opinion based on what the conversation I have. Nobody
is talking about coach vander Griff doing a bad job. Yeah, However,
there's obviously something going on there because again coach vander
Griff is not returning to Prince Avenue Christian No. Now, again,
(23:39):
he is going to be switching jobs and there's not
going to be much love lost between those two.
Speaker 2 (23:45):
Yeah, so any speculation or any have you heard anything
of where he might go or where he's looking at now.
Speaker 1 (23:53):
To be honest with you, I have not. Well why no, no, no, no,
take that back, I take that back. I do have
an understanding of where he's going.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
Okay, I just can't see it.
Speaker 1 (24:03):
You're not saying it yet.
Speaker 2 (24:04):
Okay, Well, you guys know we're gonna be the first
to report it.
Speaker 1 (24:07):
With we are you absolutely good point, stay ready and
know that that we hear at it. TG Next Once again,
as we've been doing like the last couple of weeks
with everybody, we are going to break this before anybody
else in the state. Yeah. So people need to start
(24:27):
giving us credit where credits do here?
Speaker 2 (24:29):
Okay, yeah, you.
Speaker 1 (24:32):
Know listen, Phil Jones was the first. Phil Jones and
ig Next were the first to report bang bang bang. Okay.
I know we're not the biggest guys on the block,
but by golly, we're gonna be first, trying to be
first with whatever we do. So with that being said,
watch for us to have a breaking story on the
deal with Greg Vandergreft.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
Yeah, we're gonna have some big news by the end
of February, no doubt for sure.
Speaker 1 (24:58):
Well and Mazoonnie, really we're gonna have some big news
by this time tomorrow that soon. So Greg Van der
griff has promised me, Hey, tomorrow after they feel I'm
to talk and call me up and let's rock and roll.
Speaker 2 (25:13):
Well, you know, these schools, they don't waste any time.
I'm learning that, you know, knowing with all of these
school changes. But also you know, you guys have to
think about like spring practice is coming up very very soon. Yes,
you know a lot of teams start in April, but
you know they need to start having everything. So what
Coach Slot said, maybe by the end of February and March,
you need to start having things solidified so these coaches can,
(25:33):
if they do have to travel far, you know, move
to that location, get their family relocated, you know it's situated,
and then just bring, like you said, their impact, their
influence to the program, be able to sell it to
the community and the staff and kind of like what
I was about to call them, Coach Larry, what Larry
was saying on the show last week, What was the Pillars.
(25:55):
He was saying, you need to get backing from the community,
backing from the administration, and you know, backing from of
course the players. You did a great coaching staff. All
this made sense. So you know that take them to
account all those things when we have these coaching changes.
Speaker 1 (26:10):
That's what we got checking in.
Speaker 2 (26:11):
Yeah, I was gonna say, Jamie, is it a Jamie leisure?
It says, I hope coach Noonan Newman can bring that
hard hitting defense back to Chris County. So how was
Chris County season? I remember we went to when we
went to interview the coach. Do we make it to
a couple of games this?
Speaker 1 (26:30):
No, we didn't know. Ironically we did. Now here's some
irony for you. The year before last we did the CHRISP.
Carver Columbus game. How about that? Yeah, so we saw
what was going to be your future at that time,
future state championship team. Uh. And of course we also
(26:51):
saw at that time, unbeknownst to us, of course, we
were looking at the future head coach of the Chris
County Cougars. Okay in Justin Newman. So again that was
another first for itg Next, we were able to report
that before anybody else did it. So guys, again itg next.
We are on the cutting edge, the leading, the leading
(27:13):
front of reporting and gathering who your team's next head
football coach is going to be. So we're gonna have
more breaking news tomorrow. So you're gonna want to keep
it right here, keep that phone within reach, and put
those notifications on so that when we are able to
break something, you'll again you'll get notified. Yeah, so expecting
(27:36):
again to to make it make an announcement around this
time tomorrow about coach Greg vandergriff where he's going to
wind up this new school as he leaves Prince Avenue
Christian What are they thinking talk to him today? He's
kind of mystified as well. So anyway, it's just you
called it a couple of weeks ago, and I've used
(27:58):
the term before, the phrase before.
Speaker 2 (28:01):
Yeah, yeah, I got the term from you. I did
not know that's our term until you let me know.
But it's it's definitely been a silly season. I think
it's gonna happen for a little while longer till everything
gets solidified.
Speaker 1 (28:11):
I did two. I think you're right, and so no slowing.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
Down, not at all. We have CJ. Lane checking in.
I remember him. He's a Cook Hornets fan, he says,
checking in hope to get back in the win column
this upcoming season. I know Cook County they start off
good and then they kind of dwindled just a little bit.
But I think there's room for improvement for them this
(28:36):
season for sure. And I remember when we met C J.
Lane at the Cook County's Hornets game. They have a
nice stadium. I know we're gonna be talking about stadiums
a little bit later in the show, So that was
a memorable stadium or the atmosphere really well.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
I was surprised at how huge Cook stadium. Yeah. Anyway,
so we're going to again there's a Miszodi mentioned we're
gonna be talking about that. So a couple of things.
So we are looking at rising stars, Okay, I put
it out there a couple of weeks ago, wanted y'all's opinion,
your thoughts. Who are the rising stars coming up in
(29:12):
Georgia high school football? Now what I was really looking for.
I got some great feedback from you guys, coaches, parents, everybody.
Tell you people were ready to put their baby up
on a pedestal and say Hey, look out for my
junior This I mean junior like a name, not junior classification.
(29:36):
But it was so neat and got a lot of
great faces names to be on the watchout for. Come
two thousand and twenty eight, yeah, twenty nine, Yeah, yeah,
even got some classes of twenty and thirty in there.
Speaker 2 (29:53):
Oh gosh, I can't imagine.
Speaker 1 (29:56):
Yeah, and that don't have sounding.
Speaker 2 (29:57):
It sounds weird saying that so far out.
Speaker 1 (30:01):
I know it. But listen, these players are starting to
make a name for themselves already, Mazani. They're making a
name for themselves. And you know, again we're talking about
class of two thousand and thirty, which means they're in
eighth grader now. But you already have some great looking talents.
Them young young men I call them kids.
Speaker 2 (30:21):
Yeah they are.
Speaker 1 (30:22):
They know where the kid is, they know where the
term comes from. So looking at these kids and talking
to these coaches, I mean, we have really got some
fantastic talent that's going to be coming up that you
guys are going to be hearing from. But we are
ahead of the curve on this. Okay. So again, I
(30:42):
know there are other sites out there that report on
you know, rising stars, and this and that. However, a
lot of those places are not going to give you
the insight and the in depth that we do. Yeah,
and by what I mean by that is talking of
these coaches. Hey tell us about your rising safety. Yeah,
(31:05):
your rising lineback. That's what's setting us apart from the
other guys. Yeah, okay, and I see that.
Speaker 2 (31:13):
I've looked at the list that you put out about
Superstars on the Rise, and there's just so many people.
Speaker 1 (31:19):
You know.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
I know that you picked with like maybe ten or
so players, but we know that there's so many more.
If there's anybody that you guys know that maybe didn't
make it to the list this time, let us know
and who they are and where they're from. I know
you have some like Gabrielle Gabriel Watson uh from a Keychering,
you had Trent Wilcox from Gainesville, Lamar L. J. Thomas
(31:43):
Junior from Valdosta, a lot of great players. You even
had Landing. How do you say his last name, Gia
is a Gia Landing Gia.
Speaker 1 (31:50):
I think it's Landing. I think it's g mistaken. I
could I could be wrong. Somebody helped me out. We're
talking about the bet for I'm sorry the Milton Yes
offensive line. And let's talk about him for a second.
Let's talk about some of these younger players, guys, if
you all have any more center, let's talk about him.
Who are the ones that we either missed or maybe
(32:15):
just didn't just didn't locate him, you know, maybe they're
yet to be talked about. But nevertheless, let's talk about
some of the young men on this list, and even
some of the ones that we left off. Yeah, and
none of it of course intentionally. When I say left.
Speaker 2 (32:31):
Off, yeah, Like I said, so many, so much great salent,
and you can't keep up with everybody. And then thank
you Alicia James Silvestri. She said it's pronounced geez so jia.
But Obadiah Farley says, watch out for QB. Bryce Puckett
from KRO Have you heard about him?
Speaker 1 (32:47):
I have?
Speaker 2 (32:47):
Okay, So he tell us a little bit about him.
Speaker 1 (32:51):
Yeah, so he is excuse me, it starts happening, it
starts yeah, uh, up with me a little bit. So
he is the young man. I'm pretty sure this is
a young man Bright. He's the young man that transferred
from Thomas County Central. So he is a Thomas County
Central product. Oh enough said really right, but obviously coming
(33:17):
over to the the Caro school system neighboring counties, of course,
and he's gonna come over to k Row and see
if began to put the baller, I mean the ball
man the SYRP makers up on a pedestal where they
once worked. Yeah, okay, so he has definitely one to
watch for. Okay, there was another one you asked me about.
Speaker 2 (33:38):
Oh well, D Smith just said, north Side, d T
you have Elijah Patman? Is that name ring a bell
to you?
Speaker 1 (33:48):
Uh? How do you said the last name? Uh?
Speaker 2 (33:51):
Pat Man? Elijah Patman?
Speaker 1 (33:53):
Spell that for me?
Speaker 2 (33:54):
U P A T M O N.
Speaker 1 (33:57):
Gosh, it really doesn't. Right, But again it's talking about
a lot of different players. There should be kind of
some supporting comment.
Speaker 2 (34:04):
Yeah, tell us a little bit more in D Smith
about Elijah Patman or why does he stand out to you?
Does he north Side?
Speaker 1 (34:12):
Okay? All right, yeah, and it may have been d
who recommended him, because that's how we got this. But
tell us a little bit more about these these young
men that you're that you're talking about. Who else we
got we have?
Speaker 2 (34:23):
Evan reached checking in He says, I think J. T.
Thomas will continue the success at Roswell. Every team that
Roswell has lost, let me see two since twenty twenty one,
has at least made the semi finals. Roswell has always
been close, but has failed to reach the state championship recently.
Hopefully J. T. Thompson can change that. So Evan Reese
(34:43):
is very you know, positive about that coaching change. He says,
I think coach Puru will have a significant impact on Dalton.
So he's going back to the coaching impact with the
new coaches.
Speaker 3 (34:53):
Got you.
Speaker 1 (34:54):
So again we're talking about these players, will continue to
talk about these young players. If you have any let's
let's brow let's bring him up. Trey Wetherington has given
us a few more players. By the way, Trey, you
really did a good job on presenting some up and
coming talent for the Valdosta Wildcats. Oh yeah. In fact,
our leading player in the story that I did was
(35:18):
the young man trade that you sent me from Valdosta.
That is going to be it looks like the quarterback
of the future. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
Is this Lamar L. J. Thomas Jor you're talking about?
Speaker 1 (35:29):
That's him?
Speaker 2 (35:30):
Yeah? Yeah, Ever since you mentioned him, I have been
hearing about him as well. Really yeah, I'm excited about him.
He said he has a strong possibility of starting.
Speaker 1 (35:39):
No kidding, Yeah, wow, so on this season?
Speaker 2 (35:44):
Is he going to ninth grade thist upcoming season? I
think so, yeah, possibly possibly. I believe he may have
a strong chance of starting. And I would like to
see what he does as a freshman. I know, as
a freshman that could be a lot of pressure, but hey,
you know, there's a lot of young starters out there,
and I think he'll do an amazing job. And you know,
we were talking about at the beginning of the year,
how how was Valdostill going to be without time?
Speaker 1 (36:05):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (36:06):
Right, So this would be the perfect chance for us
to see, you guys go to spring practice, to go
out there during summer practice and get a first hand
look at these players wherever you're at, whatever county, if
you're interested in these players. A lot of these practices
are open outside, so that's a great way to take
a look at them. And you know they're gonna do
a lot of seven on seven during the summer at
these camps and everything. It's exciting.
Speaker 1 (36:26):
Yeah, Obadi Farley is talking about the young man Bryce
pucket from Kro, which we had brought up earlier. So
he is Obada, I says his dad is, I believe,
a coach in the system. So good stuff there. Yeah,
Obda says his dad is a coach for that system
if I'm not mistaken. Now are you talking about are
you talking about the young man a Kro? Are you
(36:48):
talking about coach? Are you talking about Ghee? By the way,
thank you missus, Sly Alisha Alisha Silvestrie that is a coach,
Sla better half and she is the director of football
operations at Milton DFO there, so obviously she's gonna know
(37:09):
and Alicia, thank you for that. So she tells us
that it is again pronounced gee. So I know that
his dad is a coach in the Milton school system.
By the way, had a chance to talk with him
last week, just exchanging text and so. But I don't
know if that's who you were talking about or if
you were talking about the k Ro young men. But anyway,
(37:30):
so we got a couple there, Eddie Hernandez. Now this
is the young man that we saw. You were with
me at Colins Hill where you know, Okay, do you
remember I was raving about Jack Hernandez. I know, I
know these things will come together. But Jack Hernandez, I
(37:52):
did not know him going into the game that we
did up there. Remember colin Zell Woodward Academy second game
of the year. It was our itg next game of
the week that week, and of course Woodward Academy one
year removed from playing for the Class six A state
championship a year before. They got beat by Thomas County Central,
as we know. And then you've got Jack Hernandez who
(38:16):
was playing for Colins Seeal that night. And I remember
this young man, freshman was just all over the field
and he made an impression on me. So I was
putting together this list, I thought, I know somebody I'm
going to put on here, and he doesn't have to
come recommended by anybody else because I have seen him myself.
So Jack Hernandez Eddie, and I'm assuming that Eddie is
(38:39):
his father. I've also spoken with his mother, So Eddie,
mister Hernandez, says Jack Hernandez. Colin Ziel class of twenty
twenty seven started as a sophomore on one of the
best defenses in the state. Ended with one hundred while
one hundred and twenty two tackles, an interception, and four pds,
(39:01):
which means passes defense. So quite a quite a young man,
quite a season.
Speaker 2 (39:08):
Quite an athlete, quite an athlete.
Speaker 1 (39:10):
So he is one to watch.
Speaker 2 (39:12):
Yeah, and he's what he's he only a sophomore. Is
he about to be a junior?
Speaker 1 (39:15):
I think I misspoke, so I will I guess we
would have seen him during his sophomore season.
Speaker 2 (39:19):
Yeah, so he's going to be an upcoming junior. Yeah wow.
And then he'll still be returning for a senior year.
So I know they're very happy at Collins Hill.
Speaker 1 (39:28):
Absolutely, I'll tell you, and let me let mention something
too about Drew Swick. So we know the history that
we've had there at Collins Hill with you've had who
is Sam Horn was the quarterback? Yeah, Sam Horn was
the quarterback. And then you, of course you had Travis Hunter,
(39:51):
who is one of the greatest football players to come
out of the state of Georgia. Yes, ever, yeah, he
is your defending Heisman Trophy winner.
Speaker 2 (40:00):
Yeah wow.
Speaker 1 (40:01):
You know went on to play for played his college
football at Colorado. He started at Jackson State and he
followed on to Colorado, and that, of course is where
he really stood out this past season so much that
he again was kind of a shoe win, not really
kind that he was a shoein for the Heisman Trophy.
Speaker 2 (40:22):
Yeah, he really was once he was in there.
Speaker 1 (40:26):
Yeah, no doubt. And that's the thing about him is Oni,
You're right, he pretty much clinched that thing about halfway
through the season.
Speaker 2 (40:32):
Yeah, and just just making incredible plays happen. You know,
he's great defensively and offensively like her, he can't argue
with it.
Speaker 1 (40:41):
No doubt, not at all. So we're gonna talk more players,
but we are going to now shift over as we
bring in my buddy, coach Sly, We're gonna talk about
top stadiums. I want to know the best places in
Georgia to watch a high school football game, because it's
(41:03):
that important. Got a lot of names of stadiums that
came in, but I want to talk about some others.
And don't forget, I'm gonna give you my top three
coaches that I think and these are new coaches, newly
hired that I think had the potential to come in
(41:24):
and make an impact like that. Now I'm talking about
going from here to possibly a state championship.
Speaker 2 (41:30):
Yeah, yeah, In one season.
Speaker 1 (41:31):
In one season. So with that being said, and without
further ado, let's welcome in our guest. He is credited
for starting the empire at Milton when he brought in
and coach Adam Klack to oversee the Milton football program.
Adam Clacke, as we know now the new head coach
(41:53):
over at the Big Orange Jungle, which is of course Parkview.
Without further ado, though, let's welcome in. Gary. I'm not
gonna do that, coach, Sly, what's up?
Speaker 3 (42:05):
Sly?
Speaker 1 (42:09):
You thought I was gonna do it, didn't you? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (42:11):
I thought you were.
Speaker 3 (42:12):
Hey, good to hear but Tonnie's voice.
Speaker 1 (42:14):
Yeah, yeah, we had missed a little miscommunication last week
where we had Uh, I didn't think it was it
was gonna be here anyway, or we didn't have a
hitset for but she was a real trooper and uh
participated in the show.
Speaker 2 (42:25):
Ye still a great show.
Speaker 1 (42:26):
Yeah it was. We had a good time. We just
had to get that third hit set. So anyway, Sly,
how you doing, brother?
Speaker 3 (42:32):
Feeling well? Very good? How about you all doing great?
Speaker 2 (42:34):
I'm doing well. Enjoying the weather, you know, it's warm,
almost feeling like summer again. Yep, I was tired of
the snow.
Speaker 1 (42:41):
Yeah, yeah, I gotta be honest with you people talking
about only forded the snow. A little bit of that
goes a long way.
Speaker 2 (42:47):
That is so true.
Speaker 1 (42:50):
Slide. Did y'all skate? You know we've had a little
bit of everything here in Valdosta. Man, We've got hurricanes, tornadoes, snow, Yeah,
I mean, you name it, we've had it. But uh, sly,
what about the weather up in your neglar woods?
Speaker 4 (43:03):
Yeah, it's uh, today's fifties in cloud He supposed to
get cold again starting tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (43:07):
Cool?
Speaker 4 (43:07):
You know what are you using? I guess next week's
looking in the twenties and lows. I guess it's still winter. Man,
it's we this full spring. People fall forward. We all
know it's faked.
Speaker 1 (43:18):
Yeah, I got you, Yeah, little tea. So, by the way,
Puck's a tawny field. Didn't he see a shadow? Whatever
that means? I can't never keep it up, keep it straight.
Speaker 2 (43:27):
I mean groundhouse a day. Yeah, I don't know. I
don't know if he saw a shadow.
Speaker 1 (43:31):
I never can keep it with what what what it means?
If he sees his shadow? Do y'all have any idea?
Speaker 4 (43:36):
I think they said, uh, he would whatever happened is
more supposed to be more winter.
Speaker 1 (43:40):
Yeah, I like that. Whatever happened, all right, So it's
supposed to and he's eight more weeks of winter and
that what I say.
Speaker 3 (43:48):
Yeah, goyas, no I do. That's what they're saying. It's terrible.
Speaker 1 (43:53):
We'll see yeah, yeah, all right. Man. So listen, we're
talking about a couple of different things here, some interesting
topics here. We're talking about the top stadiums, uh in
the state. We're talking about some of the top football
players to be on the lookout for as we move forward,
you know here in the next few years. Well, I
(44:13):
was talking about players that is, but as far as
stadiums go, looking for the high school football stadiums that
provide the best venue and and and an overall game
day experience. Now I'm not necessarily talking about the biggest stadium,
yeah right, true, doesn't have to be you know, have
(44:34):
all the bells and whistles, the LDE light, I mean
that's LED lights. That's good and everything, don't get me wrong.
Doesn't have to have that.
Speaker 2 (44:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (44:42):
So I'm just looking to take a little bit of this,
a little bit of that pre game factors into that.
Speaker 2 (44:50):
Pregame does factor in, yeah, yeah, tel gating, Yeah, that's
a big part into it. Just the atmosphere in general,
no doubt. They're like I picked five all together, O,
but there are four that I've been to and then
just one that I just had to throw in there
because I've heard you talk about it so much. But yeah,
so I have a couple to choose from. But it
was very interesting hearing well reading all the comments. You
(45:13):
got a lot of interaction on that post.
Speaker 1 (45:15):
Really did, yeah, really did? It was only talking about
I put the post the question out there, you know,
looking for, you know, give me your best game day
experience as far as a venue goes a stadium, and
the response has just been overwhelmingly positive. And I appreciate that.
(45:36):
We're gonna kind of wind this thing down as of today.
So this is your last chance, guys, give me your recommendations,
your suggestions, because after the show, we're gonna wind it
down and I'm gonna start tabulating them. Already begin this
tabulating the results that we've got. May find some of
(45:57):
these surprising, I know I did. And then there's some
that are kind of just straight ahead you kind of
knew what we were gonna get.
Speaker 2 (46:04):
Yeah, there were some in the comments that I saw
and I wanted to It made me want to go
experience their stadium. Yes, one for sure was TCC. Now
I know about the team, and they played Thomasville, but
they played at Thomasville right when we went to that game,
so we weren't at the TCC stadium. But just the
way people were describing it in the comments, the TCC fans,
(46:27):
I'm like, wow, we probably have to wait. No, that
was Thomasville stadium, right, we didn't go to TCC stadium,
did we.
Speaker 1 (46:34):
Well, no, so the game you went to with me,
we were at Thomasville.
Speaker 2 (46:37):
Yeah, yeah, So I did not get an experience TCC
at home.
Speaker 1 (46:41):
Right, So I can tell you I've been to both
and they're both great stadiums. By the way, they both
made they made the list because they both received a lot, yeah,
of suggestions, and so looking forward to breaking those down
though as we go forward, meaning yours truly, I'll be
kind of just gotta give it like an informal vote,
(47:02):
like you know, like informal vote if you will, got
you for every positive, you know, suggestion. Somebody made boom
slash more, you know, what I mean.
Speaker 2 (47:12):
Yeah, I got up a.
Speaker 1 (47:12):
Post with no hanging chads, so it's gonna be fun
looking to see which ones. And like I said, some
of these I think are going to be obvious, like
Basemore Hotter Stadium. Let's go ahead.
Speaker 2 (47:24):
You know it's on my list for sure.
Speaker 1 (47:26):
I know it is. But what I want to do
is find out Mazanie And that's what I want to
take take kind of take out of this. Yeah, I
mean to take away. I know that that everybody's home
stadium is going.
Speaker 2 (47:38):
To be the stadium.
Speaker 1 (47:39):
Yeah, but I want to know, you know, where have
you been other stadiums? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (47:45):
Yeah, And I have my reasons for my stadium and
then you know other stadiums.
Speaker 1 (47:49):
Yeah, that's what I'm looking for. Just back it up
with something, you know. And uh and I don't mean
you in particular, just yeah, I believe general but and
I guess the the underlying theme here that I'm looking
for or stadiums that have character.
Speaker 2 (48:02):
That's true, that's true. I know a lot of people
mentioned the Where County Stadium. It has a lot of history.
Speaker 1 (48:08):
At the top of the list for yours truly.
Speaker 2 (48:11):
Yeah, okay, I can't wait to hear your reasons.
Speaker 1 (48:15):
Incredible, but I don't want to steal sliest time. You
don't want to give him a chance to get in here. Brother,
So what do you think? Did you see the post?
And what are your thoughts on some of these top stadiums?
And by the way, guys out there watching the show,
let us hear from you give us your stadiums. What
do you think, Slagway?
Speaker 4 (48:33):
Yeah, I mean from my experience, you know, I would
say to the Playden that were really good experience, good venues.
Once again, I'm talking from the field level, not from
the stands, but it would be uh o quit in Canada.
Speaker 1 (48:49):
Oh that's what That's what I want. I want to
want the whole experience and from from sly it's perfect.
I want to get slies take from the sidelines. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (48:59):
Cock Camden are both nice places for sure. The atmosphere
is amazing.
Speaker 1 (49:04):
So it is I and I give you another little
heads up on one of those two stadiums. So what
do you think, slat I talk about each of those
coquit and Camden. What's your reasoning for that? Well?
Speaker 3 (49:17):
Especially camped or cold Wood.
Speaker 4 (49:19):
It's interesting because first off, they pack it in ten
thousand people we play down there, uh number two on
your whole. On the visitor side, it could no track, right,
so it's very tight. On the visit side, half of
those stands are really the home stands.
Speaker 3 (49:37):
They're not their stands.
Speaker 1 (49:38):
Oh wait, wait, man, say that again.
Speaker 4 (49:40):
On the visitor side where we have our bench and whatnot,
half of the stands there are allocated to the home field.
Speaker 1 (49:47):
People, not just Milton Coquit No, got coquit Okay.
Speaker 4 (49:53):
So the visitor side of Colquitt, half the stands are yours.
Speaker 3 (49:58):
You bring your visiting fans.
Speaker 4 (50:00):
The other half of those stands on that same side.
Speaker 2 (50:04):
Mm hmmm.
Speaker 4 (50:05):
Wow bigs for crazy environment. It's I could say this
it's interactive right right atop of it. But it's a
lot of fun. I mean, I had a blast. We
lost that game by seven points in the fourth quarter,
but it was one of the most to me, coolest
experience high school. We've been playing in the bands and
(50:27):
stuff like that. Just the atmosphere and uh just the
you know, the shear. It was a last I think
that that's to me because it's a way set up.
But Candon does the same thing a little bit. They
have their their visitors side out their stands wealth needed,
but nothing like the Colquitt was.
Speaker 1 (50:44):
So what you're telling me, I just gonna make sure
I understanding. So you're saying that on the visitor side,
let's go, let's go to the hog Penkay. Let's imagine
that we're taking an overhead view here, right, So what
Slian's saying is that in the middle, I'm assuming that
is for whom like in the reserve section.
Speaker 4 (51:08):
So if you so just look at look at our
visitors stands. You're facing our visitors stand what's it? Right
to the left of it is Milton fans and then
there's a like a petition, and to the right of
it is all coqu Packer fans. Correct, Okay, And it's
so literally, there's really no there's really no It's crazy.
Speaker 2 (51:31):
So there's really no visitors side, no complete visitor side.
Speaker 3 (51:35):
Now, there's no complete visitors side.
Speaker 1 (51:39):
About that. Now, let me add to that, and you
may explain what I'm about to say. Okay, Jeff Herron
just inducted into the National High School Football Hall, I
mean Coaches Hall of Fame.
Speaker 2 (51:50):
Okay, congratulations, very deserving.
Speaker 1 (51:53):
Let me tell you he is as class act in
high school football that you're gonna find nobody comes close.
That's my honest opinion. He's a great man, great godly man.
What a soft spoken but let me tell you he's tough,
(52:13):
but he's very quiet. Anyway, he tells me, we're having
this similar conversation. Coach, you know, you've coached all over
the place and he has. He's been you know, he's
been in coaching high school football for a long time.
He's done it in several states. You know, Tennessee coached up.
A lot of people don't know this, but he coached
college football before he returned to Camden. I think he
(52:37):
coached at I think it was East Tennessee State, if
I'm not mistaken.
Speaker 2 (52:41):
That's a great experience town.
Speaker 1 (52:43):
Yes, Tennessee Tech is where he was at. So yeah,
So he's coached really everywhere, collegiately high school. He told
me the toughest stadium that he's ever coached been a
part of was Colwick Camp. What I believe that little
old cock he said. It was past the stands, the
(53:06):
fans are right on top of you. There's no track.
Speaker 2 (53:12):
No, that's and that's another thing I put on my
list too. I incorporated. I believe a couple of stadiums
that have tracks. I actually like the track because it
gives you extra space. I don't mind no track, but
I like the track.
Speaker 1 (53:27):
Yeah again, that's you know, that's if it so you
don't feel so closeted in.
Speaker 2 (53:34):
Yeah, exactly. And I noticed that there's a there are
a lot of high schools that have a track around
their field, and you know, being in Valdosta for a
while and going to games around here, I don't feel
like it's as common as it is up in like
Middle Georgia and North Georgia to have a track around
your field, unless like your field gets like renovated within
(53:56):
these past few years, then they may add a track there.
But yeah, I remember one of my first times going
to like a different field, I'm like, okay, they have
a track here. This is nice, you know.
Speaker 1 (54:07):
Well, and yeh too, you know Mazzani there, you know
the school is able to slide. You can check in
here and correct me if I'm wrong, But obviously there
you've got You're able to accomplish a couple.
Speaker 2 (54:17):
Of things in one track and field for sure, And you.
Speaker 1 (54:20):
Can have the stands right there. People watch it and
you want to have you have an additional venue, I
guess is what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (54:27):
That's true. That's true, so slides that is that.
Speaker 1 (54:29):
Kind of what that accomplish.
Speaker 3 (54:30):
Just yeah, I agree with you for sure on that part.
Speaker 4 (54:34):
But I do think that, Uh, it's interesting Mazani likes
the track because I actually I don't like the track.
I think it's cool as have to be close. We
were in Florida. Our field in Florida was had no track, uh,
and it was a very tight atmosphere and we really
enjoyed that because it definitely throws the visiting team off
when they come in there, because you feel kind of
(54:54):
closed in if you're a fast team or play white
up football. It kind of weird feeling at least, you
know we visitor. Visitor players will tell us all the
time we hate playing there.
Speaker 3 (55:06):
So anyway, that's that's my po Beyond that.
Speaker 4 (55:08):
One last stadium, just being through my experiences is in Florida.
Traspalall Stadium in Miami is a crazy environment. Yeah, so
it's it's iconic. Nathaniel Traspalace Stadium is iconic. It's in
my kind of in a rough area but utilized as
(55:30):
a municipal stadium for numerous teams including Oh my goodness, Uh,
Carol City plays there, Miami Central play there. But there,
but the NFL took it over and and re renovated
it and now it's really it's turfed out. It's really nice.
It's really big stands. But uh, but trash Palace gentleman
(55:52):
that does the the play by play there, he's you
have to have to use him only you can't use
your own. Uh. And he made old school gentlemen. Uh,
just just give some really cool insight. But it's a
really cool environment to play in. So anyway, Trish Pole
for him, he knows anything about South Florida. I'll tell
you about it for sure.
Speaker 1 (56:11):
Interesting. We are talking to coach Sly again. It is
extra point with Phil Jones and Mazzanni. Matthews aka Miss
Producer is in the house. And again we do this
every Monday five to six thirty or whenever we finish up,
and a lot of that depends on y'all's in involvement
and engagement. We appreciate you guys being with us. By
(56:31):
the way, show is brought to you every week by
doctor Kevin Collins the Houston Clinic, as well as my
buddy Doyer de Loach and the folks at Pepsi Valdostin.
So here's old cheers to our friends at Pepsi and
doctor Collins.
Speaker 2 (56:52):
It's still a lot of interesting comments about Cockott Stadium.
Joshua Chase the Guarante. He says, I think Cocoot County
Stadium is a safety issue for the players, coaches, medical staff,
cheerleaders and everything. He says, Cold should be forced to
redesign that.
Speaker 1 (57:10):
Wow. Yeah, that's pretty strong words. They're sly your thoughts
on that.
Speaker 3 (57:14):
On those comments, I didn't feel unsafe.
Speaker 4 (57:18):
I mean, at the end of the day, it's a
home stadium. They make it to where they're comfortable. You
have to walk through their booster parking lot from the
locker room to get to the side, which is always
fun when the beverages are flowing, and those people don't
like it, but also beat off that. I thought it
was fun.
Speaker 1 (57:36):
You know.
Speaker 4 (57:37):
I get why they're saying that because it's tight to
the sidelines. You get uh, it's also people right on
top of you, so get a little safety issue with fans.
But they they do a really good job down there.
I never did that game we played down there. We
had no issue with with the fans or anybody else
and even the parking lot.
Speaker 3 (57:57):
Now, obviously we would have won that game might have
been different.
Speaker 1 (58:02):
So obviously it influenced your I guess your perception and
your thoughts of it. Uh with the way things turned out.
Speaker 3 (58:10):
Yeah, at the end of the day, I think, you know,
if we would have won that game, they might have
been a little cranky with us. But uh but it
was fun.
Speaker 4 (58:15):
It was it was It was one point we call
time out, it was tied up in the fourth quarter,
and I told our players, look around a second pick this.
Speaker 3 (58:22):
This is high school football.
Speaker 1 (58:23):
It's best.
Speaker 4 (58:25):
Ten thousand fans there are just going crazy and guess well,
you got a chance to up so one of the
best teams in the country at the time.
Speaker 3 (58:30):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (58:31):
So it was It's a fun environment. I don't think
it's a safety issue personally.
Speaker 1 (58:34):
I got you, all right, So again, I want to
keep things flowing here. We're talking about some of these
great stadiums, the great venue. I put it out on
Facebook by middle of last week or so, and the
response has been overwhelming, guys. I mean, we've gotten all
kind of comments. Let me tell you, guys about some
of the more crazier stadiums. Uh maybe not crazy, not
(58:58):
the right word, but just some of the state. Here's
a very unique aspect to a lot of these places.
One of the top stadiums people talked about. And I
would bet most of you in this audience, and I
say this audience, me you, Sly, the the people watching,
many of you have probably never been to the stadium. Okay,
(59:22):
the Granite Bowl in Elbert County. Now, a show of hands,
as if I can see everybody, A show of hands,
who's been to the Granite Ball? Yeah that's what I thought. Yeah,
nobody out there is raising their hands exactly. See. But guys,
(59:45):
this sly. Have you ever heard the Granite Bowl?
Speaker 4 (59:48):
I have for sure I have heard about it. I
have not been there, but I've heard about. My first
moved up here in O seven. I was told about
it back then.
Speaker 1 (59:54):
Okay, so what have you been? What have you have been?
What have you been told about it? I guess is
my question.
Speaker 4 (01:00:01):
It's just iconic. It's just iconic in the in the
way it's set up, it's iconic in the history of it.
It's a you have to go by, it's a one
stop you have to see at least one time and
never had a chance to, you know, go up there
and play a game game up there. But uh, here,
it's it's it's it's.
Speaker 1 (01:00:16):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:00:17):
It's called the Granite Ball for a reason. This is
the way it's set up.
Speaker 4 (01:00:20):
Maybe I'm not sure how that is, but I've seen
pictures of it. I pulled it up on the internet.
Look at it, and it's uh the capacity is pretty
dang big, by the way.
Speaker 1 (01:00:30):
Yeah, it's yeah, I've heard it's it's it is like
sixteen thousand or something. Oh wow, Now where does the
granite I mean it was it is it? Uh? Is
there a natural granite formation in the ground that they
just kind of, you know, constructed this stadium.
Speaker 3 (01:00:48):
Out of well it's the granted capital of the world,
no kidding.
Speaker 4 (01:00:55):
That then may help that that part of it. I'm
not sure if it's made out of it or not,
but that can and he's known is the granted capital
of the world.
Speaker 3 (01:01:03):
So there's that.
Speaker 2 (01:01:04):
Yeah, that's interesting. Usually you have stadiums named after people. Yeah,
but that stadium is called the Granite.
Speaker 1 (01:01:09):
The Granite Bowl. And again, if you look, you know,
some of the close up shots that people have taken
there it's there's definitely granite everywhere, I think, instead of
like concrete, you've got granted that which the seats are
built into. Oh wow, Yeah, and hence the name bowl. Yeah,
(01:01:32):
it is a round, you know, enclosed stadium with Again
I'm assuming it's granite that forms the bowl. I'm just
very intrigued by this place. I've heard about it. I
want to go see it for myself.
Speaker 2 (01:01:47):
I would like to see it too.
Speaker 1 (01:01:48):
I would too, So we'll see if we can pull
our our travel funds together. Maybe one day we can
go there and and make a visit to the Granite Bowl.
And only way to get to Elburt. Where's Elbert County at?
Speaker 2 (01:01:59):
I have noa sly.
Speaker 1 (01:02:01):
Help is out. Where's that at?
Speaker 3 (01:02:04):
It's in county?
Speaker 1 (01:02:09):
All right. So another another stadium Mazani and SLT that
got a lot of votes was Tombs County aka the
Pit for the Toombs County Bulldogs. And one of the
things that people said about Toombs County was the exclusive
(01:02:32):
LED lights.
Speaker 2 (01:02:33):
Okay, okay, is that what Karry Claiborne is saying?
Speaker 1 (01:02:36):
Yes, Okay, Now Carrie Claiborne is reminding me, Phil, what
about those exclusive LED lights.
Speaker 2 (01:02:46):
And I'm like, they have some nice turf, though their
field is nice. Tombs County.
Speaker 1 (01:02:52):
Yeah, over now forty, says Krry Clayborne. I love playing
those teams with those lights, especially if they lose meaning
no life show good boy. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:03:02):
Hey, that's why I put Martin Stadium on my list.
I know a lot of people were talking about Martin
Stadium if you've ever been okay, and I agree with
this comment to a lot of people were saying Valdosta
Baisemore Hyder or Martin Stadium on Winnisville either or whatever
place right, But when Martin Stadium allows, when they added
those lights, I was a huge fan, especially in twenty sixteen.
(01:03:23):
You know, it was just nice.
Speaker 1 (01:03:26):
It is nice. Yeah, I gotta be honest with you.
And I've talked about this before, and I've been every
I've been everywhere. Yeah, stadium, this stadium that I can
tell you guys the let's see here. So twenty twenty four,
twenty twenty three, I guess it would have been the
(01:03:46):
twenty twenty two winners. Your class.
Speaker 2 (01:03:49):
Yeah, I didn't even say twenty sixteen.
Speaker 1 (01:03:51):
I didn't.
Speaker 2 (01:03:52):
I'm thinking we're talking about the same one. Is that
where you got your first introduction of Todd at that game.
We're talking about the.
Speaker 1 (01:04:00):
Same one twenty twenty two and was when Todd led
the Cats to a victory in the Wintersville Classic that night.
Speaker 2 (01:04:08):
Yes, you had to be on the field telling you
you really did.
Speaker 1 (01:04:12):
We were there, okay, And that was my first experience,
first first wintersvilld Classic I had been to in years.
Speaker 2 (01:04:19):
Yes, And when you want to say sold out seats literally,
you know, people are sitting right next to each other.
And kind of how coach Sly mentioned, like you know
in a coquit you have coc kind of fans sitting
on the visitor side. Yes, even at Winnersville, any Winnersville Classic,
you're gonna have both fans sitting on both sides. Well,
you know, mainly the home side is for the people
(01:04:42):
at home, but on the visitor side you're all together
absolutely at those type of games, and it's amazing.
Speaker 1 (01:04:47):
And you're right, there's no empty there's no seats available,
no literally idiots packed to the rafters. So here's a
couple of things. Martin Stadium, Winnersville that that made for
a great night. Yes, you've got to figure you're there's
no other stadium slide correct me if I'm mistaken here, Mazzoni.
There's no other stadium that gets more eyeballs on it
(01:05:10):
than Martin Stadium does.
Speaker 2 (01:05:13):
Oh yeah, I got yea. Yeah, Now, I know a
lot of people. I'm not a fan of the concrete,
the concrete seats, I'm not. I'm not really a fan
of those.
Speaker 1 (01:05:22):
Now, what do you mean concrete seats?
Speaker 2 (01:05:24):
Well, I mean like just the whole when I went there, Well,
I haven't haven't sat in the stadium many times because
I'm usually in the field. But you know, you have
to bring your seats, especially for in the visitor size,
you know, because usually at stadiums, any stadium, the home side,
their seats are a little bit better than the visitor side,
you know.
Speaker 1 (01:05:39):
Well, now, but there everybody sits on aluminum bleacher or something.
Speaker 2 (01:05:44):
One year when I went and I sat in the stands,
literally it was concrete. You had to bring your chair. Okay,
so hopefully they have those benches now.
Speaker 1 (01:05:53):
Yeah, I didn't realize that, but obviously it is a
lot of concrete for sure. Work. Yeah, I can tell you.
The press spot at Martin Stadium is one of the
more unique things because you do shit on concrete it's
just a concrete slab. It's not a table, a concrete table. Yeah,
and I'm not complaining about it, and it's fine with me.
(01:06:13):
But it's a very unique. It lives up to his
name aka the Concrete Palace. Yeah, but it's a great
place to watch a football game. But yeah, you got
all those people in the last seventy five that go
by there every day, no telling how many millions of
people I don't know, in what maybe a twenty four
hour period, Yes, at least a half a million.
Speaker 2 (01:06:35):
Yeah, a lot of people will pass through there. And
just imagine in passing during Wynisville because you can see
everybody tailgating.
Speaker 1 (01:06:43):
Yes, you know, absolutely.
Speaker 2 (01:06:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:06:45):
So again there's a lot of character. That's what I'm
talking about with Martin Stadium, a lot of character there seating.
Oh and by the way, have you ever seen the
tailgating that goes on into the lounge game?
Speaker 2 (01:06:57):
Yes, I do, I do.
Speaker 1 (01:06:58):
Wow, something else, so you can got you can say
that the lounges is obviously one of the top.
Speaker 2 (01:07:03):
Stadium Yeah, they have a nice When I go to stadiums,
I also look at the jumbo truns. That's a big
thing for me. I like when stadiums have big ones
or even if they're small. I just like how they
have nice graphics, you know, sounds. You know, teams have
specific sounds for their like third down and everything like that.
So that's important to.
Speaker 1 (01:07:23):
Me, Majo, and just kind of give an example what
you're talking about. You know, it would be something like
let's say the Lounges defense has held the team. It's
third down, fans on your feet. Just you know, that's
an example. That may be what they're saying, but that's
kind of what you're talking.
Speaker 2 (01:07:41):
Yeah, that is, it is, And you know, just for
them to take time and you know, put nice graphics
out there and get the fans into it, you know,
or just using it as a way to get the
audience involved is a great way. The jumble trun is really.
Speaker 1 (01:07:54):
Nice, right absolutely all right, So over Fardy has a
question for coach slot. Uh do you see it? Yeah,
you want to read it.
Speaker 2 (01:08:02):
To let me go back up. Yeah, So but I
finally says, what uh, as head coach, what stadium did
you dislike? Going to coach line, it's like going to
yeah you disliked it, like as a hey coach, it
says as head coach.
Speaker 1 (01:08:16):
Well, I think I think they just mean it's I
think it means just his coach. Okay, yeah, going with
a team question for you, coach, what stadium did you
dislike going to?
Speaker 3 (01:08:29):
I'd probably have to say Cock, what's that?
Speaker 1 (01:08:35):
Honestly, if Colcott will still be on your list, but
give us another stadium.
Speaker 3 (01:08:40):
I would probably have to say, Uh, Gameville really the
old stadium, So it's it's no the state. The stadium
is re event renovated. Now it's a night It's a
great stadium.
Speaker 4 (01:08:51):
Uh, great atmosphere, but I'm tired of hearing the elephant
roaring and uh, we're down by we were we were
up by four points in one part of that game
was really close to contention, and they had the elephant going,
the lights flashing.
Speaker 3 (01:09:06):
I mean, if you have a seizure issue, you can
have a problem.
Speaker 2 (01:09:08):
Oh yeah, that's true.
Speaker 1 (01:09:11):
That's good.
Speaker 4 (01:09:13):
Cut it out so quiet, the fans down. But that
was an interesting situation. So I would say, uh, Gameville.
Speaker 1 (01:09:18):
All right, guys, I want to zip through some of
these stadiums and you guys can go back and call
me in. So I mentioned Toombs County the pit that's
where they have the exclusive led lights.
Speaker 2 (01:09:33):
Some of these comments are funny.
Speaker 1 (01:09:35):
Well that that's that comment right there, is a little
bit funny. But always see some of you may get it,
some of you may not. If you get it, you
get it all right. Ray Lamb Stadium in Commerce, Oh,
I have not heard of that one. I haven't either.
I've heard of it, but everything there sly. Have you
ever been to Memorial Stadium in Waycross?
Speaker 4 (01:09:54):
I have not.
Speaker 2 (01:09:56):
Wow, I haven't either, but I passed it. I've passed
it into more as times. I've just never been inside.
Speaker 1 (01:10:03):
But truly unbelievable. I mean every time I go by
there and I have don't worry. I paid my if
we have any law enforcement listening up there, I paid
my dues and wake Cross. But every time I go
through there, I love to get out of the car
and go up to the stadium and look around, you know,
(01:10:23):
and and no trespassing or anything like that. But Waycross
Memorial Stadium used to be a football I'm sorry, I
used to be a baseball stand.
Speaker 2 (01:10:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:10:35):
Yeah, and they have kept the old grand stands.
Speaker 2 (01:10:40):
I saw a picture of the inside and how it
just goes all the whey around. It's pretty cool.
Speaker 1 (01:10:44):
Yeah, it's very cool. Now again Maazagni and Sly, we're
talking about the character of a stadium, okay, and that's
what it has. You've got the former grand stands. Don't
know what I'm talking about. When when we say grand
stands of a baseball star, that's right behind home plates. Yeah,
and it's usually the area that's covered because you know
(01:11:05):
those going back to the old days of watching baseball.
South Georgia really this whole state of Georgia had a
like a semi pro professional league, okay, and it had
some of the best players in the country played here.
And I can remember some of the stories that my
(01:11:26):
father told me and hearing folks from that generation that
you know, there'd be seven thousand people, oh wow, eight
thousand people every night for a home game, dressed to
the hill. And again when you went to Waycross. Yeah. Again,
it's got the grand stand area which is behind home
(01:11:46):
plate completely covered, you know, so you don't have to
worry about rain or anything, completely covered. Well, they turned
it into after the semi pro league was dissolved. They
decided to turn into football field and they kept the
grand stand area as it is.
Speaker 2 (01:12:06):
Nice. Nice.
Speaker 1 (01:12:07):
So here's the weird thing about it. So at that stadium,
your best seats, which are typically at fifty yard line football, right,
the best seats in the stadium at Waycross's Memorial Stadium
are actually in the southeast corner of the end zone.
Don't hear that every day? That is No, you don't, no,
you don't let at all protect it from the elements.
(01:12:28):
I think the seats are nice. I think they're stadium no,
no fun. But I think there's stadium style seats where
you know, you get one seat per person. Yeah, I
think that's right. I could be mistaken, but anyway, very
very nice venue and the most unique venue that we've
got in Georgia, Waycross Memorial Stadium. Anybody want to offer
(01:12:53):
a comment on that that you've if you've.
Speaker 2 (01:12:55):
Been there, it says Laric L. Baker Senior says, the
lost of team have train horns, but Waycross Memorial Stadium's
train horn commemorates the way Cross being the CSX railroad
hub capital of Georgia with our CSX rice yard. So
that's an interesting fact about that.
Speaker 1 (01:13:14):
And he's right, there's the railroad tracks that are right
there by the stadium, so that you don't need any
of artificial horns. They've got the real McCoy there rather
for sure. Humil Stadium in Albany. Uh Eron Gimmons is
the Mercedes Ben's that's out Georgia. I don't to know
about that, but it's definitely got character for uh, I
(01:13:35):
tell you that, all right, sly what you got?
Speaker 4 (01:13:38):
I just pulled up that stadium waycross. It's it's really
nice looking. I'm looking at it. I can see what
you're saying, Phil. Those stands and those seats in that
southeast corner are it's also say it's grass. They call
it the swamp.
Speaker 3 (01:13:49):
Is that correct?
Speaker 2 (01:13:50):
Ye?
Speaker 1 (01:13:51):
Yes, yeah, I forgot about that.
Speaker 3 (01:13:53):
Yeah, very cool, very cool, very cool.
Speaker 1 (01:13:55):
Indeed. So that's right up there. So looking at my list,
this was the and again with Valdosta tized. A lot
of Valdosta people nominated Dalton Stadium.
Speaker 2 (01:14:09):
Okay, I did not nominate Dalton Stadium, but I wonder,
why can you tell me anything about their stadium?
Speaker 1 (01:14:17):
So Valdosta went up there and played for a state title, yes,
which I guess they would have played for the semi final,
and they won. That was the year the Valdosta won
state championship. So twenty eighteen sixteen. So it was a
everything I've heard John Eunice described it as it looks
(01:14:41):
and this is you want to talk about unique, he
said walking into the stadium there at Dalton. Two things.
He said, it reminded him of a Norman Rockwell painting.
If you've ever seen a Norman Rockwell painting, it kind
of captures Americana.
Speaker 2 (01:14:59):
Okay at its finest.
Speaker 1 (01:15:02):
Okay, And there were I guess still are. You've got
the crown of the stadium, meaning the field slot. Tell
me a little bit more about what the crown is
and what exactly is that.
Speaker 4 (01:15:18):
So the crowns in the field is if you go
take the middle of the field from end zone and
the end zone go right down the middle of the field.
Speaker 3 (01:15:25):
The field is on an.
Speaker 4 (01:15:27):
Incline to pitch right, so it comes downhill. That's why
ever held the gold Downhill Sweep. It's because it literally
goes to the east sideline and goes downhill almost if
you look at if you look across the field, you
can't even see sometimes the other coach that's so much
of a pitch is on those fields.
Speaker 1 (01:15:43):
Wow, that's interesting. Yeah, why is that? Why are they
built that way.
Speaker 4 (01:15:51):
Well, there was no soccer played on them back then, right,
it was only football number one, So it wasn't a
multi purpose field. Now you can't do it anymore because
of soccer and lacrosse. But and it's also because their turf.
But back in the day when it wasn't, it was
for drainage purposes and it literally was downhill probably, I mean,
I gotta I have to say, a couple of feet
difference between the middle aft field and co downhill on
(01:16:12):
the sideline.
Speaker 1 (01:16:14):
Unbelievable. So again we're talking about a lot of character
there with Dalton, the Brickyard in Thompson, home of the audience,
that's the Thompson Bulldogs. The Shamrock Bowl in Dublin.
Speaker 2 (01:16:32):
I think I've heard of that, but I don't know
much about that one either.
Speaker 1 (01:16:35):
By the way, the Granite Bowl another little interesting fact toy.
You've got a prison right next door. Oh wow, I
mean literally right next door. Now, no danger, I mean,
but again, just kind of adds to the whole mystique,
right yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:16:51):
Yeah. One one stadium that I put down was Grisham
Stadium in Carrollton. I thought that was nice when we
went there. They have an nice press box there as well.
So I've taken to account of the press bosses, and
it was a nice atmosphere. Seating, you know, seating is
nice and comfortable. And I think I heard that they're
supposed to be getting some renovations done too this upcoming season.
Speaker 1 (01:17:14):
Yeah, all right, so anyway, there we go. We got
the hog pin. Of course, we talked about it. Any
that are surprising that we didn't hear from UH any
others guys that we want to throw out their last
call on these most unique nicest Let me ask you this, guys,
(01:17:35):
what about forget this? What about the tailgating?
Speaker 2 (01:17:40):
Oh yeah, tail ganging is really nice. And you know,
of course I was gonna throw out some things about
Baisemore Hyder, you know, as you were talking about character,
but tail gang is always nice at Basemore Hyder too,
right now, they kind of If you've been to a
v issue game, you know that we tailgate in multiple spots.
You know, you have a parking lot, different parking lots
(01:18:00):
of around the stadium you could tell gay at. But
it's always nice for the college games or high school games.
But you know, if you come early enough, you're gonna
see the catwalk and you're gonna see the band playing
and everything like that, and it's just really nice to
see the fans line up on both sides of the
sidewalk and the young athletes walking through, the coaches walking through,
(01:18:22):
and you see the little kids that are going to
be future Wildcasts. They get to shake their hands and
everything like that. So that's a great experience for them
and kids grow up. That's part of the culture and
almost like the feeder system, you know. And I talked
to Coach Rogers at TCC when we went down there,
and he was saying, you have just like the same
thing in their community. Do you have yellow Jackets, Well,
(01:18:42):
kids that grew up wanted to be yellow Jackets. Same
thing in Valdosta. You have kids that grew up wanted
to be Vikings or kids that grew up wanted to
be Wildcasts. So to actually get a touch one, get
to see them walking down the sidewalk before the game,
it's a great experience. Like I said, we tailgate out
there as well. But also, like you were saying, some
characters about the stadiums, you know, and the traditions at
(01:19:02):
Basemore Higher, they have a museum there, so that's really nice.
You get to see some of the history before the
game walking into the museum, and then you know, a
big part of pregame is when the football team is
about to run out, you know, they have that tunnel
and they bang their helmets. So that's just a lot
of tradition there at that stadium. And then of course
a lot of tradition with the Blazers as well with
(01:19:24):
that stadium.
Speaker 1 (01:19:24):
You know what, you really pointed out some things that
had been lost on me.
Speaker 2 (01:19:29):
Yeah, it's been like a tradition for years and years.
Speaker 1 (01:19:33):
The first road game that I ever went to, Yeah, here,
I am big high school football fan. Now, I was
thirteen years old back then, growing up in Tifton, Georgia. Yeah,
don't ever go well, no, I shouldn't say that's a
good town, just a nice town. But you've got when
(01:19:57):
I went to the first road game, it was at Valdosta.
Jiff County played Valdosta, and back then it was really
the what they called the Death Valley.
Speaker 2 (01:20:07):
Death Valley for sure.
Speaker 1 (01:20:09):
Yeah, and I will never forget I'm sitting there. That's
when they had seating in the end zone. Remember that.
Speaker 2 (01:20:17):
Ah, that was a little bit before me.
Speaker 1 (01:20:19):
But I do.
Speaker 2 (01:20:19):
I've seen old pictures and stuff like that.
Speaker 1 (01:20:21):
Yeah, seating in the end zone and it was packed,
and I was in the end zone and lo and
behold Jiff County. Now I'm sorry, Valdosta's coming out of
their locker room and all of a sudden you start
hearing this pow. It's scared us to that know what
was going on? Yeah, it turns out, you know, it
was the players coming down the tunnel, banging their helmets
(01:20:44):
up against the tin roof and just incredible.
Speaker 2 (01:20:49):
Yeah, and they still do that to this day. So
that's amazing.
Speaker 1 (01:20:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:20:52):
And if you ever got a sky or a bird's
eye view, or you get a drone and fly over
the stadium, you'll see that our seats are just like,
you know, decorated, very nice. Oh yeah, the V and
the pause right, yeah, so I think that's a nice
touch too, no question. All right.
Speaker 1 (01:21:06):
So there's some things there about about the some of
the other things the characteristics to make up these stadiums.
I can tell you Lounge has got one of the
best tailgating.
Speaker 2 (01:21:18):
Yeah, they do.
Speaker 1 (01:21:19):
Our area is tailgating. Again. You come by on I
seventy five before a game and all you can see
is tailgaters as far as the eye can see it.
So yeah, look, it's easy to talk about these places
because we're based in Valdosta. But again, we are a
state wide company, so we want to make sure that
we give everybody ample opportunity to talk about your stadiums.
Speaker 2 (01:21:41):
But that's that picture you posted earlier. Was that a
Marietta in their tails sailgating. Now, I've never seen people
gate like that before.
Speaker 1 (01:21:49):
Unbelievable. Yeah, that was really why you ever seen that
at Marietta where they tailgate out in the U and
I think they actually use that as the practice field.
Oh wow, right outside of the main Northcutch stadium.
Speaker 2 (01:22:01):
But that test an organization, no doubt, no doubt.
Speaker 1 (01:22:04):
So low what you got.
Speaker 4 (01:22:05):
Yeah, Marriotte is an interesting stadium, very a lot of
history there. But yeah, you're right, they've got a really
cool tailget area over there, and it's it's it's interesting facility,
it really is. It's like a lot of history to it.
But one other place I was thinking about you're talking,
fellow and interrupt you, but Woodstock High School, Uh, you know,
(01:22:26):
not a perennial powerhouse, but no means, but they have
the woodshed, uh on their their home side. And it's
really like a ten like a tin woodshed. It's not wood,
it's ten and bang it like you're saying, and it
starts shaking it when take it to the woodshed type
of thing, you know, the old saying. So that's kind
(01:22:47):
of interesting to have that there as well. So it's
one of the other stadium with a little bit of uh,
you know, a little bit of history to it.
Speaker 1 (01:22:53):
Yeah. Nice, that does sound neat.
Speaker 2 (01:22:56):
Yeah. I think a school that every school or every
program has something specific to them that they've done for years.
You know. It's kind of ingrained in them now to
do this, you know. So I think that's really nice.
Speaker 1 (01:23:08):
All right, guys, we're winding down here, unbelievable where the
time has gone again. We're talking about we'll end with
this all right. So coaches that I think will make
an impact, new coaches, new hires, coaches that I think
will make an impact. Right away, I'm gonna give you
(01:23:28):
my three number one. Adam Clark. I knew it at Parkview. Yes,
I just think the guy has got winner written all
over him. It was he and Sly that really built
what is known today as the empire at Milton High School.
(01:23:49):
That's where the championship started. Many people don't know. Before
coach Sly and coach Clak, it was a lot of zeros.
And I don't mean like having on the scoreboard. Well
maybe it was for them, but it was a lot
of tens. I think three consecutive one ten seasons. Things
were bad, weren't they live?
Speaker 3 (01:24:08):
Yeah, they weren't very There was only a one or
two outliers in there. It wasn't very good. That's all
I said.
Speaker 2 (01:24:14):
He has that experience, though, Coach Clarke has that experience
of bringing up a program.
Speaker 1 (01:24:20):
Well that and that's from my whole point. Okay, And
this is why I put him at number one, because
again you've got you know, Adam Clak. People remember how
he left Milton, but you've got to go go back
even further and remember what it how it was when
he got there. Yeah, you know Sly you you did
(01:24:42):
you hire Adam Clake? Did you promote him or or
how did that work?
Speaker 3 (01:24:46):
Yeah? Yeah, he got hired. I was eighteen, We hired him,
was seventeen.
Speaker 1 (01:24:51):
Okay, so Sly hired you know, it hires Adam Clake.
He comes in and look they had been bad, like really,
man at Milton, Well.
Speaker 2 (01:25:01):
I have a question for coach Starlight, what what was
it that stood out to you about coach Clack? What
made you what was the deciding factor for you?
Speaker 4 (01:25:09):
Well, don't forget. We had one hundred and fifty resumes
over Huntsty resumes of coaches and it got down to
twenty and it got down to final ten. We had
a committee of like ten people and got it down
to the final two. And actually at the final two,
Brian Jones, principal Jones is now uh he beats coach Clack.
But Adam Klast just raised himself. He separated himself from
(01:25:31):
everybody for numerous reasons. If you hear him speak, I
mean you can he just he's he has vision, He
had a plan. He knew what it was gonna take
to bridge the gap between the fieldhouse and the building.
He knew what it would take to get the community
it was. It was just a confrehensive plan from the
ground floor up and he and you know obviously it worked.
Speaker 1 (01:25:53):
All right. So number two on the list is gonna
be Daniel Boone Williams of course Leavingston Hughes and going
to north Side one of Robbins. Again, you look at
Langston Hughes before and after Coach Boone and people will forget.
People will say, well, of course he was good there
(01:26:15):
because he had Prentice Aaron Nolan. Yeah, well he didn't
have him this past year. Okay, I had a really
really good quarterback in Christian Sea five Langford. But still,
and kudos to Christian. He's a great quarterback, Okay, but
he was not Apprentice Aaron Nolan. Yeah. Point being that,
uh you know Boone, Coach Boone is one of those
(01:26:36):
guys that can win with this player, with that player. Yeah,
and he proved that at Langston Hughes.
Speaker 2 (01:26:42):
Now how long was he there at Langston Hughes. Was
it like five years?
Speaker 1 (01:26:47):
I shouldn't know this because I just wrote the story
on him, Slagh.
Speaker 3 (01:26:49):
You remember, so his first two years weren't very good,
then he had three. I say, at least five years.
Speaker 1 (01:26:57):
I think that's right. I think I think Miszooni's right.
I think you're I think it's five is the magic
number there. So anyway, he announces and again we broke
the story here at itg Next the fact that he
was going to be leaving, going to North Side one
of Robbins, and I think he has got an opportunity
just like Adam Clake does at Parkview. Okay, remember Parkview
(01:27:19):
used to be a very proud school. Good, I mean
it's still proud, don't get me wrong. Maybe I phrased
that wrong, but he is going to bring back and
restore the championship luster. Yeah at Parkview. I think coach
Boone is going to do the same thing in Norside.
Speaker 2 (01:27:33):
Yeah, I'm gonna say, think kind of a similar situation,
correct program.
Speaker 1 (01:27:36):
I think you're right. And so finally the third and
final school again talking about Steve Divorceney Okay, coach DeVos,
he's known as took a Griffin team made him a
state champion. Okay, went to KRO and did pretty much
the same thing there. Didn't want to stay championship at Gyro,
(01:27:56):
but man, he had him competing for it every single year.
And so he now gets the task of taking over Veterans,
which has the what toughest schedule of the state they do? Okay,
hands down, Welcome to Veterans guy.
Speaker 2 (01:28:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:28:13):
So those are my three picks for I think three
of the you know, again, not not necessarily the best three,
but three that really jump out at me for coaches
that are coming in to make an impact. I'll give
you guys the final word. That's my final word. Give
you guys the final word. Whatever it is you want
to talk about, whether it's coaches.
Speaker 2 (01:28:32):
Or what those those final two coach, well, the top
two coaches, Adam Klark and Daniel Williams. Those those are
my top two as well as making a huge impact.
And I a still had a question for you guys.
That'll be my last word. I was since we were
talking about stadiums and character and energy there, and I
know that a lot of stadiums have been having like
(01:28:55):
recent renovations and everything, making more modern, you know, updating
their prints, bosses, getting new church and every thing like
that and adding all these facilities. Which that's great, But
do you think it's more I'm gonna say more important,
But do you think it's nice that, you know, instead
of being all the way remodeled and renovated, but keeping
some of its history there, you know, keeping some of
(01:29:15):
the old things there. You know, like you mentioned the
granted is still there in the Granite Bowl, or you know,
just adding some of the old history into the stadium
building and building into it while being able to renovate
some parts of the stadium. What do you guys think
about that?
Speaker 4 (01:29:31):
I think, I think you want to have some kind
of character, right, So I think for sure you have
to keep the character of that facility because that's what
gives you the history, I think, and that also gives
you the legacy, right and all goes.
Speaker 3 (01:29:43):
And I think that's a good point. But Zani, I
think it is. I like that you want to keep
the character.
Speaker 2 (01:29:48):
Yeah, because when I was looking at all these renovations,
you know, it's like, okay, now some of these places
are starting to look the same, right, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:29:55):
You don't want it to become sterile and clinical. Yeah. Yeah.
So anyway, Sly you get the final word, brother, tell
what you want to say on your phone.
Speaker 4 (01:30:07):
The head coaches, I would say too, to think about
down the road as well, just adding there is Jay
Boshaw at Dawson County and uh Andy died Elpra County.
Speaker 3 (01:30:18):
I think those two were gonna go in and uh
and make some noise as well.
Speaker 1 (01:30:22):
Absolutely, I really liked the Jabo Shaw reference did a
great job. He's done a great job wherever he's been.
And yeah, for sure all right, guys, thank y'all so
much as always for your input. Where did the time go?
