Speaker 1 (00:07):
And now it's time for extra party, your host Phil Jones.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
All right, welcome everybody. Phil Jones with you time once
again to talk a little high school sports. It's extra
point with Phil Jones. But I am not flying solo.
You guys know that I have a little bit of
company joining me as they always do each and every
week to my right, but off camera, but you're seeing
her in just a second. Gonna welcome in miss producer,

(00:38):
Miss Zannie Matthews, Miss producer Mazzarnie. What's going on?

Speaker 3 (00:41):
Hello, Happy Monday.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
It is happy Monday, rainy Monday.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
Rainy Monday, and it's been a very long Monday. But
I'm happy to be here as.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Always, absolutely me too. And we are gonna be joined
by our buddy coach Slive, the longtime Milton Athletic director
joins us every Monday. He'll be joining us at the
bottom of the hour six thirty to join us and
talk a little sports today. So thanks so much for
being with us. Of course, wouldn't be possible to do

(01:09):
the show without the support of our sponsors, of course,
Pepsi Cola based here in Valdosta, and doctor Kevin Collins,
one of the more noted orthopedic surgeons across the entire
state with the Houston Clinic. He is the team doctor
for Valdosta State University's football team and the Calwick County Packers.
And we appreciate Doctor Kevin Collins and PEPSI for sponsoring

(01:33):
extra point with Phil Jones. Can't do it without them,
all right. We got a lot to get to today,
and we think we've got some pretty good topics today.
Three main topics and Mazzana you've posted I think some
questions to invite our viewers to take a look at
some of the topics we're gonna be talking about today,
and we want everybody to give us their viewpoint.

Speaker 3 (01:53):
Yes, I'm dropping them in the chat now, all.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
Right, so you're gonna give you an overview of what
we're talking about today. Pretty interesting, all right? The best
you've ever seen, and not in any real particular order,
these three, but I ought to start with the best
I've ever seen. We've all been there watching high school
football across the state, some of you for longer seasons
than others, obviously depending on how old you are. But

(02:19):
I want to know, we want to know who's the
best you've ever seen? And think about it some of
you may know right off the top of your head.
I know Mazzanie's got her choice now. She was going
to tell me before the show, and I stopped her
saying no, no, no, not yet. Let's wait because I
want to try to guess it here on the air
with you guys. But I want to know from y'all

(02:41):
who is the best that you've ever seen and probably
get some pretty interesting choices there, all right. Also we're continuing.
I have the series that I've been writing about, some
of the best spin of the best you've ever seen,
some of the best season openers that are going to
open the twenty twenty five Georgi high school football season

(03:02):
this year. And man, we have got some doozies. I
have already written about and profiled the Buford Milton game Boy.
That is a battle of two Georgia heavyweights going to
open up that brand new stadium there in Buford, by
the way, and that is a beautiful, state of the
art stadium. I mean, probably rivals a lot of college stadiums,

(03:25):
to be honest with you. It's gonna have all the
bells and whistles. I talked to Tony Wolfe as leg
director up there, he was kind enough to share with me,
kind of giving me the virtual tour of the place.
And again in the Milton Buford season preview that I
wrote up, I talked a good bit about what all
the stadium is going to include, so that is, Oh yeah,

(03:46):
have you seen the drawing the architects rendering of that believable? Unbelievable.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
I can I wait to see it.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
Yeah, we were up there, of course. I'm trying to
remember the last time we were up there. I guess
it was for the Buford Beauford Collins Hill game that
we did, one of our games of the week last year.
And of course you have to turn right there about
the stadium to get up to the Beuford Old Stadium
or former stadium. I tell you, it's still better and
nicer than most high school stadiums. So I think the

(04:19):
middle school is going to be taking over the former now,
well we'll be former stadium tom Ryden Stadium. Wow, And
can you imagine a middle school.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
That's what I was just thinking, like, that's great for
the middle school. You know, that's gonna be one of
the best middle school stadiums out.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
There, absolutely probably be number one for sure. Yeah, So
all right, there's two topics. So we're gonna talk about
the best season opener. What game do you guys think
is the best season opener coming up to open up
the twenty twenty five season, by the way, Beuford Middleton.
Also I wrote about Cockwood County hosting Benedictine.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
Oh yes, Now those are two top season.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
Openers, absolutely gonna be great ones. And then the third
one and most recent that I wrote about one of
Robbins in Lee County. Now, this is going to be
the fourth consecutive year that they have opened up the
season with each other, so it's it's building into a
pretty good rivalry, albeit a non region raffrey. I'm like that.

Speaker 3 (05:15):
I'm like that too, like and also maybe possibly starting
a new tradition.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
Yes, and that's that's a great word to use, because
you know, again this would be the fourth season. I
would hope that they, you know, continue this game. It's
kind of like Lounges and Valdosta the Winnersville Classic exactly.
Even though you know there were te years where they're
not in the same region, it's still good to have
those teams play in each other and.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
It's still a great turnout.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
Absolutely and still a great rarey And just as you
put it, I hope that becomes a great tradition between Benedictine.
I'm sorry, Lee County and one of robins. I'd let
to see Benedictine and Colkwood County. Hey, you know it's
a first time they've ever met, by the way, really
absolutely so. All right, so those are the three main

(05:59):
topics that we are addressing today. We're talking about today,
but before we get there, I want to find out
who's in the house.

Speaker 3 (06:07):
Yeah, we got a lot of people checking in. Of course,
we have O but Io Farley checking in, he says,
what's going on? It t G TCC checking in. We
have Michael Bastard, he says, good evening, Phill and crew
and everyone at IG. Next Georgia. He also says, go
Milton Eagles.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
Here you go, Milton.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
We have George Chiles, Lamonts repping Brooks County Trojan of course,
all right, Steve Stephen Adams coffee high Trojans football fans
checking in. And then we have Jeffrey Rowling. He says,
uncle Phil.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
Is here. Look all right, so we're already so we've
got Milton represented We've got.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
We've got Robbins Coffee County.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
High, Thomas County, Central, Brice County here. I love that.
Of course, Stephen K. Winn representing the Leake County Trujan Yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:02):
And then we got Lobo Miller County Pirates checking.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
In Lobo all right. By the way, Olier's Adam ST's
representing the tiff County Blueouvils. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
That he said, they have a tough spring game. Who
are they going against? Where are they going? Are there
some teams that still kind of well, their spring game
is different than sometimes when they scrimmage themselves.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
That's right, Okay, right, that's a good point. See your brother,
one of our buddies here leaving the studio. So that's
a good question. And I tell you that's one of
the things I was thinking about yesterday. Uh And if
time will allow us to say, I may slide this in,
but I can really remember when to answer your question,

(07:46):
the spring football game would be just like almost a
regular football game, you know. I mean, the crowds were huge,
the anticipation of the two teams playing. But again, it's
kind of a your question. I know I'm going the
long way around it, but there's a lot of teams
now who prefer to either scrimmage themselves or just to

(08:09):
have to utilize the ten spring practices or practice. You
get ten days to do whatever you want. Most teams
will choose, I say most teams. Some teams will choose
to practice nine days and to use that tenth to
play a game. Some choose to play that game against
an opponent or amongst themselves what's called an inner squad scrimmage.

Speaker 3 (08:31):
Well, why do you think they go for the intersquad scrimmage?
I'm pretty sure a lot of reasons, but yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
And those are very interesting. You know why some teams
choose to do this? And then but the third option
before I answer that, some teams just prefer to use
all ten days to just practice. Okay, yeah, so I
think it depends on some several factors. And guys, throw
help me out here and throw in your opinion on
this what Mazzani has asked, yes, talking about you know

(08:58):
why do to why teams choose to do either the
game or a game amongst themselves, or maybe even just
a practice. I think it depends on what the team
is looking at amongst themselves, like a new coach coming in,
probably wants to know, probably wants to find out what
kind of team he's got, probably needs that full ten

(09:21):
days to practice, because that's not much.

Speaker 3 (09:23):
Yes, it's not. It goes by really quick.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
It really does. And some coaches will tell you we
don't really aren't able to get a whole lot out
of just ten practices or ten spring games or ten
spring events. I guess is what it is how to
say it, But anyway, you get ten days to do
whatever you want, is what I'm trying to say here. So,
but I think you've got teams that feel like, hey,
we've got a lot of returners coming back, we know

(09:48):
who the who the veteran starters are going to be.
So let's play another team instead of ourselves, and let's
see how we match up.

Speaker 3 (09:55):
Yeah, I think that's a little bit more exciting. But
what do you guys prefer absolutely to see the inner
squad scrimmage or do you like to see people compete
against each other? Are you okay? Which is going to
a spring practice to watch absolute see what your team
is doing?

Speaker 2 (10:08):
Yes? So very valid points. So that was something again
I was thinking about yesterday, and and again, if time allows,
I'd like to talk more extensively about it, and if
we don't get to it today, we'll certainly pick it
up next week. But again, talking about the spring game,
I can remember when they were big. They were a
big deal because you satisfied people's thirst for high school
football exactly.

Speaker 3 (10:29):
That's what I was thinking.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
Yeah, because the season has been over now since you know,
well for some team if you don't make it to
the state layoffs.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
A very long time.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
It has been a long time, so Dezmver January February March.
I mean you're talking about almost a half a year
since you've had some high school football exactly, and people
they really are I can't remember going to the spring game.
Jeff County hosted the Double and fighting Irish at Brody Field.
I mean the stadium was not full, but it was
pretty close. There was so much excitement looking forward to

(11:01):
the game. Uh, it had that real season in season
game feel to it. But I think a lot of
that is going away. Yeah, and I'd like to see
that return.

Speaker 3 (11:10):
Yes, that would be nice to see. So we have
some questions here in the comments. I just want to
read a couple of those off. Well, this one, first
one is not a question. But it's Adam, he says,
go bit blue. We've got a tough spring game feel,
he says, I say, a big step up from Turner County,
and we asked them who who was that? He says,
we opened with Brooks again via a scrimmage, and so

(11:31):
also Stephen k Wayn said, he wants to know do
you want do you want them to tell you the
best in Georgia or just best period? I think we
should stick to Georgia.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
Yeah, Georgia. Yeah, the best I've ever seen? Is that
what he's asking? Yeah? The best you've ever seen in
Georgia high school football? Yes? Yeah, because if we started
to get outside Georgia, nobody's gonna know what you're talking about.

Speaker 3 (11:49):
And then who else do we have here? Kelly Mitchell says,
go Trojans Brooks versus Thomasville war on eighty four?

Speaker 2 (11:58):
I love it. So is that spring or that season opening?

Speaker 3 (12:01):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (12:02):
Season opener, And let me clarify real quick. Hold that thought, Mazani.
So what I'm really looking for, guys is the regular
season opener? Yes, not so much, because in addition to
the spring scrimmage, some teams ought to do the fall
scrimmage which is you play just before your season starts.

Speaker 3 (12:22):
Oh okay, yes I would not.

Speaker 2 (12:23):
I don't think I like that. No, just that's you know,
you're risking injury for a game that doesn't matter if
you do have if you do want to do a
scrimmage and you have it in the spring, if if
somebody you know gets nicked up, yeah, you have time
to recover. Yeah. So anyway, that of course, that's one
of the uh, you know, the challenges that the coaches

(12:44):
face anyway, m M when they're you know, talking about
taking on another team because the level of competition is
going to rise.

Speaker 3 (12:50):
That's what I was thinking. You know, maybe you want
to do intersquad because you know it won't be so aggressive.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
Yep, absolutely so very valid points there. So, uh who
we got in the house here.

Speaker 3 (13:01):
So Luke Nelson of course he's in here, and he
says you for versus Milton that's his top pick four
of season opener. Okay, let me see you here o.

Speaker 2 (13:09):
I folly by the way, checking in. I know you
mentioned him earlier. He had dream matchup TCC versus Calwood County.
No kidding, Now are they going to play in twenty
twenty six?

Speaker 3 (13:21):
Maybe he just put it in an atmosphere.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
Okay, us for it. Okay, maybe, so that's that's pretty
interesting though.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
Oh okay, Jeffery Browland, please answer this question for him.
He says, when you talk about writing articles, where do
you find those? Where can he find your articles? Film?

Speaker 2 (13:35):
Oh, it's just easy. So first of all, Jeffers, you've
got to get our weekly newsletter. Okay, you got to
subscribe to that. By the way, guys, that's for all
of you. If you're not receiving our weekly newsletter, why
not it comes see you free. It's gonna come to
your email in box right now. We're doing one newsletter
a week. During football season we do two a week.

(13:57):
But it's got all the good stuff that we talk
about here on the show. Everything you need to Know
and Jeffery you uh is Jeffrey right every rolling Jeffrey.
You can check it out. Go to our You can
go to our website it t g Nextgeorgia dot com
and you can find out how to subscribe to our newsletter.

Speaker 3 (14:17):
I will be dropping the link right.

Speaker 2 (14:18):
Here there you go. Thank you. Azzanni does things the
easy way.

Speaker 3 (14:22):
Yes, thanks, you can guys, click in the chat right now.

Speaker 2 (14:26):
There you go. So just click on the link that
Mazanni is going to put in there, and that way
you guys can go and and subscribe to our newsletter. Jeffrey,
I hope that answer your question. But when you get
when you get the newsletter, man, you get all the
stuff that I write every week, and again it's absolutely free.
Uh I just updated our top ten uh g just
a baseball poll, taking a look at how we did

(14:50):
we did? You know, I ranked the teams before the
season started, and now I'm looking at and updated g
HS A baseball poll a month into the season. I
like to do that rather than do this weekly pole
like we do in football season, because baseball a little
bit different animal.

Speaker 3 (15:06):
Of course it is, yes, it really is.

Speaker 2 (15:08):
So instead of doing a weekly baseball poll, instead, I
like to update it periodically and again, in this case,
decided to wait a month, okay before we were updated.
Now I can tell you there are some major wholesale
changes in our top ten GJS A baseball pole. So
Anawa remains at the very top that does not change,

(15:30):
but from there down you'll see some changes.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
To check it out, guys, we have Luke Bush checking out.
He says from Lowndes kindie, go Viking.

Speaker 2 (15:37):
What's up, Luke, mister Viking himself.

Speaker 3 (15:41):
And then Adam says toof versus Tombs in spring, toof
versus Brooks fall, he says, at least we will know
what we have out of the gate. And that's a
good point that a lot of people want to know.
During these spring games and even fall games, even if
it's a fall scrimmage or you know, just a season opener,
you get to see what you have at that very mouch.

Speaker 2 (16:01):
We got. Let's see here. I just saw Robert Tyler
checking in beat Peach County Trojans and coach Maury's Westbrook.
So how is Peach County gonna be looking this year?
My man, Robert? Let us know who else we got?

Speaker 3 (16:20):
We have c J. Lane Cook Cornis checking in spring
game versus Thomasville at Thomasville May sixteenth. Listen here, yeah, okay,
that's the spring game.

Speaker 2 (16:31):
Kevin McCain, Chris County in the house. We were up
there yes last week covering the Chris County baseball team.

Speaker 3 (16:39):
I remember interviewing the new Chris County coach. So I'm
pretty sure they're decided to see what he's gonna bring
to the.

Speaker 2 (16:45):
Season absolutely absolutely. So you just mentioned CJ. Lane, did
you not? Yes?

Speaker 3 (16:50):
I did?

Speaker 2 (16:51):
Okay, Luke Bush again, what's up? All right? So I
think I believe we are Donnie Jarvis best ever Packers
fifteen and O national champs Kelly Mitchell. That's what I
love about this show. You guys go beyond football and
talk all high school sports. Absolutely, brother, Yeah, always looking
for good high school sports stories. So all right, so

(17:14):
let's talk about the best you've ever seen? Okay. Now,
I also mentioned did I get to the tricks of
the opposing team? I didn't talk about that.

Speaker 3 (17:26):
No, not yet, but I did put it in there
so people know that's what we're going to eventually get to. Okay,
But did you give your season opener?

Speaker 2 (17:33):
Well, so I've talked about yeah. Remember I've talked about
the three that I've written about. Yes, correct, So we're
going to continue to write about those. But I have
not given you the best player. Okay, and this is
what and again just to clarify, so three different things here,
the best player that I've ever seen? Who's the best
player you've ever seen? Okay, that's number one. Number two.

(17:56):
We're looking at the season openers this year, what's going
to be the best season opener? In your opinion? Are
just a really good one? Again, so far, I've written
about and talked about the Milton Bearford season opener, Cockwood County, Benedictine,
and Lee County won to robin. So those are the
three I spotlighted so far.

Speaker 3 (18:13):
Okay, I have one. Okay, my pig was Coffee County
Trojans versus the Bainbridge Bearcats. Okay, I think that'll be
an interesting one.

Speaker 2 (18:22):
So you think so it sounds like you think Bainbridge
is ready to bounce back from their one to nine
season last year.

Speaker 3 (18:30):
Yes, yes, but I'm also excited to see what Coffee
County would do till.

Speaker 2 (18:33):
Okay, you know, I got you. So that's another one
of those games, you know that really should turn into
a pretty good rivalry, just a natural rivalry. But all right,
so here's another thing we want to talk about, and
this is I actually have to give credit where credits
du Coach Slide and I were talking today. I basically

(18:53):
reached out to Mazzoanie and Coach Slide to say, hey,
what y'all want to talk about tonight? And Mazanie kind
of gave me her feedback, Coach Slide gave me his feedback,
and Coach Law said, talking about and I love this.
What are some of the best mind tricks? Oh yeah,

(19:14):
mind games that teams use to get into opponent's heads.

Speaker 3 (19:19):
And they get creative. Yes, they get created.

Speaker 2 (19:21):
Now let me give you some examples. You know there
are some teams better than others who will do these
things in pregame. All right, I know that a lot
of teams will link arms and walk from end zone
to end zone.

Speaker 3 (19:36):
TCC do that.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
They do do that. Okay, Gainsville does that. And here's
where Slye came in. He said that Gainsville does that. Well,
they were doing it last year when Milton and Gainsvielle
got together. It was that. It was that Gainesville. So
Gainesville is walking the length of the field and they're

(19:58):
also linked arm an arm. All the players are from
sideline to sideline, right, so they are taking up the
whole field. Well, something's got to give here because Milton
is out doing pregame drills. Yeah, what's gonna happen here?
So they're coming right toward Milton. Milton players are out

(20:21):
there in the pre game. What do you think happens.

Speaker 3 (20:25):
I'm assuming they only went halfway maybe or did Milton
joint hands as well? When did it happen?

Speaker 2 (20:34):
Gainesville can come walk? If they came walking up to
Milton's players, who again roll the field practicing pregame, Yeah,
and they asked, hey, can y'all guys move? Oh no,
And basically Milton said nah. So Gainesville parted ways and

(20:55):
went around the Milton players and came back together.

Speaker 1 (21:00):
Now.

Speaker 2 (21:00):
Wow, depending on how you look at that, say, Milton,
you can argue one that one. Yeah, but you've already
got in the head of the games with players, right,
that's true. Gosh, man, we were walking arm linked arm
in arm and they made us break it up because
they wouldn't move, So already you got some gamesmanship started up.

Speaker 3 (21:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (21:20):
So which teams are really good about that? Guys? Okay,
didn't have to be that particular you know, didn't have
to be that particular act or pregame ritual. But which
teams have pregame rituals that really are designed to get
into the minds of their opponents? And I know you
guys have got some good ones.

Speaker 3 (21:39):
Yeah, I believe they have a lot of good ones
that I thought of two and one. I already mentioned TCC. Right,
we saw them come out and walk together, right, and
they go about halfway. But also I think another thing
for TCC. I was gonna say at home for advantage,
but they do this regardless whether they're at home or not.
I really think their fans help them with that because

(22:00):
they're so loud, and you know, they have those horns.
That's why I think that plays a huge part one.

Speaker 2 (22:05):
That's right, not only the.

Speaker 3 (22:06):
Other teams mental, but maybe the other fans as well.

Speaker 2 (22:09):
Well. You got to consider those things are so noisy
when the other team, the opposing team is trying to
is trying to call plays. Yeah, especially if the quarterbacks
up the line of scrimmage and he's trying to audible
you know, Yeah, he's got to holler to his lineman
you know, hey, I'm changing the play up, and then
he goes into his cadence and if he can't hear
or there's a struggle there, well, how many times you're

(22:31):
gonna see the quarterbacks stand up and say come out,
m see that right there is what I'm talking about. Yeah,
pregame rituals getting into the head of your opponents who
does it better than others? And what is it that
they do? Guys, I know you've seen what I'm talking about.
Would love to know. I'll tell you another one. Yeah,
how about when play when teams and you see some

(22:53):
certain teams will do this. They'll go to the opponent's
midfield to their logo and they'll start jumping up and
down on their logo too. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (23:03):
Yeah, and again that's disrespectful they do.

Speaker 2 (23:07):
They do, and depending on how you look at it,
it could be you know, interpreted that way. Okay, I
get it. So what do you guys think? We're talking
about a lot of different things here. We're talking about tricks,
my tricks certain teams used with the opposing teams.

Speaker 3 (23:22):
Okay, interesting answers right.

Speaker 2 (23:23):
Here, all right, So give me a second, we'll go
into it. Okay, So we want to know about that,
and it's kind of the game within the game, if
you will. All right, So what do we got?

Speaker 3 (23:33):
Okay? So yeah, So one interesting comment that stood out
to me was Kelly Mitchell. He says, Brooks comes to
the fifty yard line and holds up helmets and bounce
all around with the hammer planet in front of them. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (23:46):
Now, see I will see. I can see how that
would be intimidating for sure. By the way, your Valdosta
Wildcats has got probably the best and most intimidating pregame ritual.

Speaker 3 (24:05):
Can I guess? Yeah, what you're gonna say?

Speaker 2 (24:07):
Yeah? The beating on the ten, absolutely yeah.

Speaker 3 (24:10):
I was gonna mention that I was gonna leave for sure.
The beating of the ten is crazy.

Speaker 2 (24:15):
The first road game away game I went to when
I was fifteen years old, I believe, was the Valdosta stadium.

Speaker 3 (24:24):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (24:24):
When tiff County played Valdosts I grew up in Tifton.
My brothers said, he you want to hear the game,
and both teams were really good. The game was really good,
but I could not believe what I was hearing. This
is when they had the seats in the m zone.
Oh wow, and the Valdosta players came out banging their
helmets on that tin roof.

Speaker 3 (24:45):
What an experience.

Speaker 2 (24:46):
It was unbelievable. Little old field sitting there, scared to that,
didn't know if I was gonna get out of there
or not.

Speaker 3 (24:54):
You know, I wonder who started that.

Speaker 2 (24:56):
I don't that's a good question. Wow, that is a
very good Anybody that's got any idea. Let us know
when that particular particular tradition started. But I gotta tell you,
if opposing team come here, I was just a fan
of an opposing team. But if opposing teams are not
ready for that, can you imagine?

Speaker 3 (25:16):
Yeah, I know it's it's pretty scary, it's aggressive, and
I would have loved to beat the ten. That's been
a dream of mine.

Speaker 2 (25:21):
Oh can you you ought to make that on your
bucket list? Yea, it is, Oh, it is. Yeah, I
don't blame you, all right. Who else we got in
the house? Bubba Weldon Bubba says, I need to send
you a will Cox helmet.

Speaker 3 (25:33):
Bubba, Yes, everybody. They look and they don't see their helmet,
and they're like, okay, we need to send it asap.

Speaker 2 (25:39):
Please give me your helmets. I'll take anybody's helmet. If
it ain't up there, and you want to send me one,
I promise you will make it. We'll make it up there.
We'll put it up there.

Speaker 3 (25:48):
Let me see you here. I'm trying to look for
some more comments regarding oh okay, oh, but Diyah has
an interesting one. He says, video promo before the game,
what do you think about that.

Speaker 2 (25:57):
That's a good one.

Speaker 3 (25:57):
Yeah, that's becoming more and more relevant now.

Speaker 2 (26:00):
Absolutely. One of the best ones I've ever seen was
before the Valdosta Lounge game. I think it was what
two three years ago at Martin Stadium, the Concrete Palace.
It was I forget what they call it. Luke Bush
had told me, but it's the video that shows a

(26:20):
Viking ship sailing across the ocean and it's storming, and boy,
you can hear the music is just turned up to
ten on those massive speakers at Martin Stadium, and it's
just wow. It is something to behold. And that is
a big time again opposing team sitting there looking at that. Yes,

(26:42):
I mean you're like, wow, what are we going into here?

Speaker 3 (26:45):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (26:45):
You know, so that was a good call over for sure.
All are we talking about pregame rituals? What's the best?
What's the bitches thing? I think all these schools now
that have added the led lights goals have not done that.
What are you waiting on? You know, that's one of
the best pregame rituals, turning those lights off and on.

(27:06):
And I know they also do it in game usually
when their team scores.

Speaker 3 (27:10):
I love that and I like, I hope we get
some at Valdosta Stadium to have really led lights.

Speaker 2 (27:16):
They don't that they really do. All right, it's an
extra point with Phil Jones, Mizomi Matthews aka Miss Producer
is in the house with me. We're gonna be welcoming
in Coach Sly coming up here in just a little bit.
But again we're talking about and uh, we wanting to
know your thoughts the best player, oh yeah, you've ever seen?
In other words, ask yourself, the best I've ever seen

(27:41):
is blank? I know who mine is. Design he's got hers, Yep.
Who would yours be the best you've ever seen? And
we're asking it to be from Georgia George high school
football players. Okay, so but it can really be anybody anywhere. Okay,
all right, and again we're looking at looking at those
are the main topics we're talking about today.

Speaker 3 (28:01):
Yeah, so you want me to read some off some
of some people's favorite place.

Speaker 2 (28:05):
Yes, absolutely, I want to hear from you.

Speaker 3 (28:07):
Okay, So we have George child Lamon's he says, Champ Bailey.

Speaker 2 (28:12):
And that was that was that Charlton County, the swamp.
Can you imagine the Bailey brothers Boss Bailey, champ Bailey.

Speaker 3 (28:22):
You know I've heard about them playing over there.

Speaker 2 (28:24):
In little bitty where's that? So help me out that
Clinch No, not Clinch County, Charlton County. What's the what's
the city there?

Speaker 3 (28:36):
Though I can't remember either?

Speaker 2 (28:39):
What is that piercing? Anyway, little old bitty place. They
literally caught the swamp because it is a swamp. You're
getting very close.

Speaker 3 (28:49):
To the Yeah, you are getting close to let me see.

Speaker 2 (28:54):
And some of the best football players to ever walk
this earth came out of that town in that stadium.

Speaker 3 (29:01):
Is that Folkston?

Speaker 2 (29:02):
It is Folkston, Thank you very much. Folkston. Okay, so
that's a good one there. Ricky Moss hited with Folkston.
Luke Bush hit it with Folkston. Luke. Don't forget me
about what you and I talked about. Man, we won't
get ready to get that Adam Carter podcast done this
week this year?

Speaker 1 (29:20):
All right?

Speaker 3 (29:22):
I think Ricky Moss he mentioned Al Pickens.

Speaker 2 (29:26):
What did he play? Help me out there, guys, if
you didn't want to give us the.

Speaker 3 (29:31):
School, is it Mitchell Baker?

Speaker 2 (29:34):
Oh, Don Drell Pinkins, Is that who you're talking about?
Don Drell Pinkins.

Speaker 3 (29:40):
Okay, well, he said Al Pickens Alan Pinkins.

Speaker 2 (29:44):
Yeah, I know, I know the Pinkins. I don't know
if that's it, if he has a brother. Okay, so
Don Drell Pinkins played at Mitchell Baker when it was
separated and Camilla.

Speaker 3 (29:59):
You also said I played ag Charles Grant Miller County.

Speaker 2 (30:03):
Okay, that's a good one. Yep, absolutely, the Miller County Pirates.
What has happened to the Miller County Pirates? By the way,
not to get off on a tangent, but man, they
used to be a a just a.

Speaker 3 (30:13):
I want to say somebody mentioned them earlier.

Speaker 2 (30:15):
They did a star war of high school football? What
has happened to Miller County guys? All right, you get
that thing now? I'm pretty good now, Ousmaney.

Speaker 3 (30:28):
I mean excuse me, obinaya chose Ousmaney cramon.

Speaker 2 (30:32):
Okay. Trey Wetherington says Tony Anderson running back for Valdosta
eighty three to eighty four. Now that's a good one.
Of all of the Valdosta athletes, that's one that does
not come off. Uh, it's not the first thought. Oh,
we've got coach Slide joining us, and we'll get him
in on the conversation as well, joining us now is
a former is former as leed director from Milton joins

(30:55):
the conversation with its scores. I'm talking about coach Slides.
Was going on, buddy, Hell are you going tonight? Man?
We just had some massive thunderstorms rolled through uh here
where we are located? Parts unknown? Here in Georgia, in
southern Georgia, but it is passed. Lad has a load

(31:16):
of wrestling there, Dude, Mazanna, do you know what we're
talking about? So to add to the mystique, how many
of you guys know what we're talking about? The wrestlers
used to identify themselves to add to the mystique of
who they may be. It would be a lot of

(31:39):
times it was masked. Wrestle used to wrestle with MASc on.

Speaker 3 (31:42):
Okay, so are you talking about kind of like the
eighties w w E?

Speaker 2 (31:46):
Okay, Well, wasn't w E.

Speaker 3 (31:47):
Then it was Georgia.

Speaker 2 (31:50):
It was World Championship Wrestling Georgia, Georgia Championship Wrestling. But
it would be coming from like Columbus origin from the
Columbus Civic Center. But man, oh wow, I didn't miss
any of those matches starting at Saturday afternoon at four o'clock,
and did't get a Satday night about eleven o'clock. But
these wrestlers, just to add to their mistique, they would

(32:13):
have the introduction. And now in this corner weighing in
at two hundred and eighty pounds from parts unknown. We
don't even know where he's from. It's the iron Chic.

Speaker 3 (32:25):
Oh, I've just heard about Iron Chic honestly, yeah, I
believe so. But I heard about a lot of That's
why I know a little bit about a lot of
these wrestlers.

Speaker 2 (32:36):
Thundercat, Yeah, Thundercat, Yeah, a bunch of them.

Speaker 3 (32:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (32:39):
All right, all right, here we go. So we're talking
about sly, you and I actually we're talking about this
earlier today as I was talking to you and Mizzani
about some of the topics I want to talk about.
So let's start with and let's talk about the some
of the top season openers that are gonna be played

(33:02):
this year. Again, we've identified Milton Buford Lee County, one
of Robbins. By the way, it's gonna be I think
the fourth can saying of the year they've played. And
we've done all of them by the way, every game
will probably be up at one of robins for this one. Okay,
all right, then we've got, of course Cockwick County and Benedictine.

(33:23):
So who are some of the other games that you
guys would like to see that are gonna make some
of the better twenty twenty five season openers? So what
do y'all think? And why you kind of mull that over?
We're also asking you, guys about the best I've ever seen,
best player ever, no matter where, no matter what position.

(33:46):
It's got to be in Georgia, but no matter what school,
what position, it can be now, modern era or it
can be later. I'm gonna throw out who my player is. Yeah, sly,
you got yours? I do, and I want to know
how many of y'all can give you a couple of

(34:07):
hints here. My player was a former and fantastic Tiff
County Blue Devil quarterback. Who am I talking about? Who
was the best I've ever seen? And he was really good,

(34:29):
ambidexterous even though he was a natural right hander. He
threw right handed, but he could also put it in
his left hand and throw it as equally as well.
Let's see if anybody can guess who I'm talking about.
By the way, Andrew Watkins. Remember we threw out the
wrestling thing and everybody kept rocking and rolling on it.

(34:52):
Oh no, this is awful news, non football news. But
Alan Clinton is break in the news that Jerkson Profar,
who the Braves got in the off season, all everything player.
They were going to bat him a lead off. He

(35:13):
has been suspended eighty games testing positive for performance enhancing drugs.
Unbe believable. And by the way, Braves and need all
the help they can get. They started off oh to four,
they stink.

Speaker 3 (35:29):
I thought people had like slowed down off of those.

Speaker 2 (35:32):
I did too.

Speaker 3 (35:33):
Yeah, that was really like comedy anymore.

Speaker 2 (35:35):
You know what. I was really surprised when he when
he posted that I hadn't. I didn't either. I thought
it was a done thing.

Speaker 1 (35:41):
A lot.

Speaker 2 (35:41):
That's a lot. That's uh, that's half the season. Yeah,
season on hundred is a hundred and sixty two games.
That's half of it.

Speaker 3 (35:48):
Do you think they were like, Okay, so in baseball,
is it kind of the same thing. They can get
treated as well.

Speaker 2 (35:53):
Yeah, but that they but yeah, but they can't do
anything with him with what he's suspended, and he was
a fantastic player. You know, San Diego is a good team.
They got him into the off season. They really needed him.
Whether they won't have him now for forout the year,
so we'll see, all right. So, by the way, so
we had somebody to throw in a wrestling who is it.

(36:18):
Let's see over that fall. He says he's a big
wrestling fan. I did not know that. Uh, that's pretty interesting.
But anyway, mister wrestling number two, by the way, says,
we just you know, we'll get off of that. But
mister rastle number two, Yeah, mister rastleing number two at
number one. What was funny though, they'd always try to
get the mask off. That was a big thing.

Speaker 3 (36:38):
Was it like stuck on them?

Speaker 2 (36:39):
Well, it was pretty tight. Yeah. And then you know
the whole thing was wrestlers wore their masks for a reason.

Speaker 3 (36:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (36:46):
Yeah, they were trying to hide. You know, some of
them will claim I'm disfigured, so you know what I'm saying.
They just added to the whole mistique. Yeah, so in
the ring, you know you have wrestlers they would get
behind you and try to rip off the mask, and
you know, I met the guy would be fighting to
keep his mask gone, and Gordon solely the play by
play you know, announcer or whatever, ring announcer. Oh no,

(37:09):
he's going for the mask. It just again, guys, I'm
a wrestling fan, and some of y'all are two if
you remember those days. I don't guess a mask is
really a thing anymore.

Speaker 3 (37:19):
No, it's not, it's not.

Speaker 2 (37:22):
I love it.

Speaker 3 (37:23):
So I see a lot of people. They picked out
some great players.

Speaker 2 (37:27):
All right, I wonder did anybody get mine? Best player
I've ever seen was a quarterback for tiff County. Who
am I talking about? Guys? In the meantime what we've
got here, I'm not going there. Nick Marshall, And I
got to tell you something. He was some kind of special.

(37:47):
I believe he played at Willcox County if I'm not mistaken?
Is that right? Who gave me that one? Who gives
that one?

Speaker 3 (37:55):
Let me see? I was looking at some of the older.

Speaker 2 (37:58):
Ones, Michael, Wayne Dawnton. Nick Marshall went on to play
at Auburn. But I think he got a fizzle out
in the prose, did he not? Couldn't really lent? I
think he was drafted about the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Speaker 3 (38:12):
Chris Pace mentioned Greg Reid from Lowas County.

Speaker 2 (38:16):
Man. I tell you what an athlete, Greg Reid was
heck of a player. Not the biggest guy, but he
was probably one of the He'd be in my top
five list. And I've seen a lot of high school football.

Speaker 3 (38:31):
Let me see here, what else? Uh? Nick Marshall's you
already mentioned him.

Speaker 2 (38:36):
That's what he just talked about. Nick Marshall, I was
just talking about let me see. Alan Clinton says, yeah,
I seen that man dominate on the field and the core.
Trey Wetherington says ty Caddle in brain Massingale. I know
he's talking about it. He didn't, Brian anyway, have a
little fun, but Trey Wetherton says brain Massingale, ty Caddle

(39:01):
two best Chiff County quarterbacks, Trey, I'm a little surprised
to hear you say ty Caddle, no disrespect, But being
a Tiff County fan, I thought he was okay. But
now I'm talking about the best I've ever seen. But
this Tiff County quarterback that I'm talking about the best

(39:25):
ever to play quarterback that I've ever seen. I mean,
just ambidexterous. Saw a game in one of Robbins playoff game.
This player is rolling to his left with the ball
in his right hand. He's being chased toward the sideline.
He's running out of room, he's about to be tackled.

(39:46):
Quarterback takes the ball, puts it in his left hand
and throws a frozen rope to a wide open wide
receiver about fifteen twenty yards down the field. And that
was most unblievable thing I've ever seen. But this guy
could run it, he could throw it. He was a
dull threat before dual threat was a thing. And I
can't believe you guys aren't getting this one best player

(40:07):
I've ever seen. Who's the best player you've ever seen?

Speaker 3 (40:11):
I'm gonna take a guess, but I did have a
little help, but you Josh Allen, No, but he was.

Speaker 2 (40:16):
A good one. Well, you guys are nailing some good ones. Now.
I gotta be honest with you, But you're all around it.
Go back a little further, Okay, anyway, I want to
get so you got yours.

Speaker 3 (40:29):
Right, I do have one me him, and then I
saw I want to add another one. But if somebody
already put it in the comments, so I'm gonna read
his comment first, Steven Adams said, Tyreek from Coffee Tyreek Hill.

Speaker 2 (40:40):
Yeah, my gosh, I mean, how can you ever again? Right?

Speaker 1 (40:42):
No?

Speaker 2 (40:42):
Right? Do you know what is the deal on on
Tyreek Hill?

Speaker 1 (40:47):
Though?

Speaker 2 (40:47):
Do you guys know the kind of the the story
behind the story there?

Speaker 3 (40:51):
You mean like his backstory growing up type of deal?
Or you mean where's he at right now? In Well?

Speaker 2 (40:56):
No, he was originally an Atkinson County place.

Speaker 3 (40:58):
Yeah he was.

Speaker 2 (40:59):
Why are you sure with us?

Speaker 1 (41:00):
I'm with you guys, and I'm listening all right, man, So.

Speaker 2 (41:03):
Uh, why don't you jip in here and then talk
a little bit? Tell us who he's the best player
you've ever seen?

Speaker 1 (41:08):
You know, I'm not gonna be a home roo. I'm
not gonna stay in Milton.

Speaker 2 (41:13):
Well I thought that. I thought, really that you could
eat yeah, and and Mazzani saying, you know I would
because you could easily pick any of those players from
last year.

Speaker 4 (41:23):
But I mean we I mean you can go look
from last year, you can go Carl Lawson from back
in like twelve and thirty league. Still, but here's a
player I'll go, and it's and it's gonna be a
rival school.

Speaker 1 (41:36):
So now I'm looking at Travis Hunter is hiding trophy clinter.

Speaker 4 (41:39):
Let's face it. He was a freak in high school.
So he's won. And we could pick the obvious. I'm
gonna pick one off the grid a little bit for you.
He's a safety from Roswell. Xavier McKinney.

Speaker 2 (41:51):
Wow, you did go off the beaten path there, brother, Yep, yep.

Speaker 4 (41:55):
And I'll tell you I was tough to coach Clacke
and I a ballack And it was funny. We were
talking and I said, remember Xavier McKinney, and he's like, man,
that kid would he was just a freak of nature
on the defensive side of the ball for them all
year long, you know, and went on and have a
great NFL career still playing. But yeah, that's one that
just sticks out. That's off the grid. It's a rival

(42:16):
school too as well, so I'm trying to be very fair.

Speaker 2 (42:18):
And what year did he play in?

Speaker 1 (42:20):
What years McKinney was there?

Speaker 4 (42:24):
So I think we he was there in uh thirteen,
twelve thirteen, eleven, twelve thirteen when they went to the
back to.

Speaker 1 (42:31):
Back runner up years.

Speaker 4 (42:33):
Okay, that's when he was there, and he went I
believe Bama and then went to the league and played
for the Packers and played for the Giants, and uh,
he's just he's a guy that literally can cover half
a field by himself at safety and that's it.

Speaker 1 (42:48):
It was just that he's atmosphere nature.

Speaker 4 (42:51):
So yeah, David McKinney's giving Roswell people props and not
kicking in my own backyard.

Speaker 2 (42:57):
That is a good one. And you and then I'm
never would have guessed it. So my player, somebody has
finally guessed it. It is indeed, Ken Hobby, Trey Wetherington,
Jerry O'Neill nailed it. Guys. If you guys have never
seen Ken Hobby, see if you can pull up some
some footage on YouTube or wherever. The guy was just unbelieving.

(43:23):
And I don't like to say that a lot because
there's a lot of really good players, but he was
a difference maker. I mean just I don't even know
how to say it. I mean, you see good quarterbacks
now that have got all they look good getting off
the bus. Yes, well, Ken Hobby. He wasn't like the

(43:43):
overall blessed athlete with height, but but he could just
I mean he could, he could, you know, he would
saying he's ambidextuous, which, like I said, give him a
big advantage.

Speaker 3 (43:53):
Yeah, that's pretty unusual.

Speaker 2 (43:54):
He'd be on the pitching maun playing baseball and he
could throw it. I mean, not up or now. Just
an unbelievable player. And I keep saying that a lot.
But the bet was the best player I've ever seen
in my life, and I've seen a lot of them.
Ken Hobby, Tiff County quarterback, went to Auburn, was ready
to start as a freshman. But unfortunately, and guys, this

(44:18):
is something that is plagued Tiff County. For whatever reason,
players get off to college and get in trouble. Fizz aloud. Yeah,
it's happened to many a really good Jiff County player.

Speaker 3 (44:31):
Do you think they lose their focus?

Speaker 2 (44:34):
They do, obviously, and I don't know why it is.
I don't know. Ken Hobby was that way trying to think. Here,
get a couple of others from Tiff County. Robert Hill,
he was a great wide receiver, went to South Carolina.
He told me himself, I couldn't get up from the

(44:54):
eight m history class and he told me that. So anyway,
Tiff County's kind of been burdened with that anyway, they
were really good hig school football players. Who was the
best you've ever seen? We wanted to know. Inquiring minds
want to know the best football player you've ever seen
at high school level.

Speaker 3 (45:09):
Okay, I'll go ahead and give my pick. Since you
guys have given me.

Speaker 2 (45:12):
I want to guess. I want to guess on it.
Give me a hen what era?

Speaker 3 (45:16):
Okay? So class? It was right before I got there.

Speaker 2 (45:19):
So Malcolm Mitchell, Yeah, is that it? Well? Well, I mean,
in all fairness, now, it's not that hard.

Speaker 3 (45:30):
Yeah, it's not that hard. And I wanted to pick
somebody that I actually grew up watching. You know, I
got you, so yeah, you know it's not that hard.

Speaker 2 (45:36):
I got you. Well, you got it, So there you go,
best we've ever seen. So so we're talking about a
couple of different things here, guys. We're looking for the
best you've ever seen, best, the best player period and
uh slide. Do you have a number two to go
with that? I mean, I really thought you might go
with Luke Nickel, So.

Speaker 4 (45:53):
I would have went my backyard for sure. Luke would
be for sure. You know, I had my first choice.
I was trying to stay out of my backyard and
try to get a little the first spot and give
my guys on Donna Roswell a little love down.

Speaker 1 (46:04):
The street there.

Speaker 4 (46:05):
I'll go back if you don't mind. It's not gonna
be in Georgia though. Okay, I'm gonna go back to
a guy played against in high school in Florida.

Speaker 2 (46:15):
You are violighting the rules of the game, but I'm
gonna give you them all again.

Speaker 3 (46:19):
On this one.

Speaker 4 (46:21):
I'm doing it for a reason because this kid, his
name is Fred Buckley.

Speaker 1 (46:25):
He played quarterback Forgiveness.

Speaker 4 (46:26):
He played He played quarterback at Cardio Gibbons High School.

Speaker 1 (46:30):
I played against them.

Speaker 4 (46:31):
He wound up being pray All American back in the
day when you had Frede magazine and All American was
like your picture was in it. Not when I have
forty five All American teams now. And he went on
to play at Stanford and won the Rose Bull for them.

Speaker 2 (46:45):
Oh wow wow.

Speaker 1 (46:47):
Yeah, and just he.

Speaker 4 (46:48):
Only had a brief career in the league. He's a
multi millioner now, he tells vitamins, but uh, everything is.
He was a dude back in high school. We wound
up beating him that night. So I'm that's my claim.
The thing but uh he he went on to you know,
be one of the best quarterbacks besides Old Way.

Speaker 2 (47:04):
At Stamford Nice and what's his name again?

Speaker 1 (47:09):
Bred Buckley? Wow?

Speaker 2 (47:12):
How about that?

Speaker 3 (47:13):
You never heard of a film?

Speaker 2 (47:14):
I gotta stop it. It's not jumping off the top
of my head. But you know, I tell you what,
and I I think, Luke Nelson, are you in the house, buddy,
big Buford? I was trying to see And there's a
reason I'm asking. By the way, Uh Trojan Booty, I
don't know, is that's your real name or is that

(47:36):
you messing with us? Uh? Anyway? Uh Trojan Booty, says
Rokwan Smith two way beast man. He was indeed a
ball player here here on that one. I'll get it.
So I want to So I meant I mentioned kin
Hobby was the best I've ever seen. So I've got
to now go with somebody else. And I wanted to

(47:57):
all do our number two. So I want to find
out who it is. Tell you Roke wants to me
at this right up there with them, but I'm not
going to commit to him just yet. Best player you've
ever seen? Somebody ask we just got on the show,
what are we talking about so a couple of things. Actually,
it's kind of a multidimensional show. Today, myself, misproducer, and
coach Slaw, we're all talking about if you want to

(48:20):
throw out the season opener, which you think if you
had to pay money, if you could go to one
season opener this year coviing the twenty twenty five season,
which one would it be? Who's going to give us
the best action right out of the gate?

Speaker 1 (48:31):
We won?

Speaker 2 (48:32):
One thing, we want to know about the best you've
ever seen at any position. I mean, overall, this guy
was the best. I want to know that you guys
are obviously already giving us some really good choices. The
other thing, and this is pretty cool. Tricks of the game.

(48:53):
Which teams are the best at getting inside? And this
is to be credit goods to Slow on this one.
He came up with it. Which teams are the best
at getting inside their opponent's heads before the game even starts.
And I mean you can talk about I mean, you
can include once through the whistle blows, but I'm really

(49:15):
looking at those things. Those pre game rituals are those
pre game things that you go through where other teams
will get in your head, get in the in the
in their opponent's mind. And we've seen it so many times, right,
teams will get on their their their opponent's mind and
they just can't shake them. And that carries over to

(49:36):
the kickoff and the game. Before you know it, you're
already in the mind of your opponent and you're already.

Speaker 3 (49:41):
Winning for sure. And it has a lot to do
with it.

Speaker 2 (49:44):
Yeah, So I'd like to know lie the key is.

Speaker 4 (49:48):
It can't be fabricator, right, It's to be real. I's
be passionate. It has to be something that either you
believe in as a team, or you believe in as
a certain unit, or you just know what you're gonna
do and you expect it.

Speaker 1 (50:00):
I see so many times you see teams tried like you.

Speaker 4 (50:02):
I think you talked earlier about you know, jumping on
logos and and you know, and and and look at
if anything, you're gonna take somebody off and it's not
gonna be a positive.

Speaker 1 (50:12):
But like, what do you really do as a team
or as a unit to.

Speaker 4 (50:16):
In a pregame situation, even during possibly even during a game,
like some teams through the jumping Jackson the fourth quarter
even right, and the whole the whole team doesn't right,
or to jump around in college you have And it's
so cool because if you looked at arguing when they
play I think it was Wisconsin who does that. They said,

(50:37):
when they jump around, we're gonna jump around around around.

Speaker 1 (50:43):
It's that game inside the game, right. I think that's
that's that's authentic, not fabricated. That's something that you plan
on doing. You're gonna do. You stand by it.

Speaker 4 (50:51):
Uh, you know, we played we played games well, we
played that. That that's silly, drive me crazy. Elephant noise
they play in the stadium all practice long, and said,
if you hear it during the game, it's because they're
doing well. So get in your head, we're not hearing this.
You played the noise all dang practice long.

Speaker 2 (51:12):
That's right. So yeah, that was, by the way, our
one of our games of the week this year. We
were there for the Gamesville Milton game. Great game. Uh,
but slot you touched on a particular pregame ritual that
you thought really may have made a big difference as
that game went forward.

Speaker 1 (51:33):
Yes, yeah, yes, so games wasn't really cool kind of like.

Speaker 4 (51:39):
By the police, they go to their stadium, they come
down a little drive or a hill.

Speaker 1 (51:44):
They're not you know, shoots or street clothes whatever they
have on their the polos.

Speaker 4 (51:49):
And they didn't lock and walk the field like from
end zone end zone. It's their field right well early
and well not a lot of our players, but the
major of play on the twenty yard line throwing balls,
getting loose and then the silver coaches runs kind of
the hash mark on twenty or thirty talking. It came

(52:10):
and they came down the field and our guys in
a move and they're they were They were like, hey,
you guys want to, you know, just slide over, bro,
you know, we'll get around.

Speaker 1 (52:20):
No, no, we're not moving. And people can sit.

Speaker 4 (52:24):
There and say, well that's that's rude, and then maybe
they think that's fine. Uh now games will give them
their class, their very class, a lot of class, very spectful.
They went around, but at that point we looked at
each other, going, oh, we're gonna get this game. And
the funny thing was, if that was another team, momstly
had the team's name, but a few of the teams

(52:45):
we played against later on that year and before, it
would have been a melee, right, it would have been
a melee right there.

Speaker 1 (52:51):
So it's the game inside the game.

Speaker 4 (52:53):
They they do that for their there whatever they want
to call us their field. Our kids were like winning,
moving and you know, nothing against what coach did.

Speaker 1 (53:01):
Nothing, that's our kids did. And it was a great game.

Speaker 4 (53:03):
That game was a four point game going to the
fourth quarter, I believe one point and I'm mistaken, Phil
was a close game.

Speaker 1 (53:08):
Uh and and anyway that that's the game inside the game.

Speaker 2 (53:12):
Yeah, it was a close game. Uh it kind of
exploded there at the end, uh with with with Milton
taking over and pulling away. But again there's you know
part of that. A lot of that credit goes to
the exploits of Luke Nickel. Just incredible. But uh all right,
so that's one of the things we're talking about. Slide

(53:33):
just described to you Gains Vallue. They do the the
arms link. I think Thomas County Central does that too,
and they start one end zone and go literally shoulder
to shoulder, arms linked together from one of the field
to the other. And it is a straight line of
players all the way across. Right, Yeah, yep. So what

(53:56):
happens when you get to a group of players or
a player who happens to be in the field. Okay,
anywhere he is, he's gonna have to you know, he's
gonna be in the way. So do you ask the
player to politely move or do you just keep going? Yeah,

(54:18):
you can see that, And that's when I guess Sla
said that. Milton said, we're not moving.

Speaker 1 (54:24):
Right. Yeah, that's that's that's what happened.

Speaker 4 (54:27):
We played Roswall a few years before that at their
place and our kids came out instead of going down
the sideline. Once again, this is something you gotta you
gotta own it either way, our kids kind of ran
through the middle of their h middle of their field
where they were getting loose and uh, it was almost
a main left.

Speaker 1 (54:44):
So the next year, I'm retired now.

Speaker 4 (54:45):
As a d and their ad calls me and says, hey, Sly,
you're you're come to the game right, So yeah, I'm coaching
because do me favor get out of early with your team.

Speaker 1 (54:54):
Please don't happened again after last year.

Speaker 4 (54:56):
So we actually policed our kids, and they policed their kids,
but it was in their head from the year before
already about that. And by the way, we won that
game too, all.

Speaker 2 (55:06):
Right, So guys, again we're looking at the the game
within the game. Some of the best mind games that
you've seen teams, whether it's your team that you support,
you've been on the bad end from an opponent who's
done that against you. But what are some of the
best mind games. I guess maybe if you're a fans again,

(55:27):
been on the wrong side, it's been you know, the
worst mind games for you, right, But still looking at
the more creative things. I'll give you another one. Tiff
County Valdosta. This is back during both programs. We're winning
state championships and I can remember Valdosta had and on

(55:48):
the field awards presentation they were making to some I
don't know who it was. I don't know. It may
be one of the longtime coaches like right Baysmore or
you know, one of those kind of coaches or or players,
or he was he was a figurehead somehow for Valdosta.
That way, they had the whole stage out on the field,

(56:10):
you know, portable stage. They were out there giving this
presentation to this coach just before the game, and all
of a sudden, Tiff Counties head football coach Jene Brody
tells his team, go let's go take it too much
time and here they come, they bust through the banner.

(56:31):
They ran right by where the guy was making his
you know, getting his award. Yeah, and you should have
seen the look on that gentleman's faith and the crowd,
Valdosta crowd just boots Chiff County merciless mercifully.

Speaker 3 (56:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (56:45):
I mean, it was just unbelievable. Now, I gotta be
honest with you, Dick County fan. I thought it was
pretty cool at the time. It was pretty disrespectful too,
But that's what we're talking about. Gamesmanship, Okay, doing these
things to get into the mind of your opponent. And
I gotta tell you, whether it's direct or in direct,

(57:08):
nine times out of ten when you see stuff like that,
the instigating team, for lack of a better word, is
gonna win the game.

Speaker 3 (57:14):
That's true, that's true. I agree with that. But I
also agree with coach sla you know, with making a
statement that you can't lie about it. It can't be like
a false energy. It has to be super offensive point,
you know, And I think that as to you know,
them winning the game at the end, you have to
go in with that standard. You have to go in
with that confidence and expectation.

Speaker 2 (57:32):
That's a great point. That's a great point. So what
do you guys think Some of the best mind games,
some of the best gamesmanship things. Call it whatever you
will that you've ever seen, whether it's your team, a
team that you opposed as a player, just as a fan,
you've seen it. We love to hear your thoughts, guys,
about what you think. All right, just taking a look

(57:54):
at some of the some of the comments here. Jose
Badilla is in the how Heello, mister Field and the Zigonni.
How are y'all? We're doing great, brother, Always good to
see you checking out the show. My man? Who else
we so?

Speaker 3 (58:09):
Rodriquez Upshaw? He laughed, Well, I thought it was funny.
He was responding to, wait a minute now, coach. Our
elephants sound is not silly.

Speaker 2 (58:18):
I love it. I love its, Rodericus Shaw, Rodriquez Upshaw
giving you a little bit there back slide.

Speaker 1 (58:26):
Yeah, keep keep that elephant sound going because it does so.
It does work. It does work, no doubt.

Speaker 2 (58:34):
All right. One of the things we're talking about again,
what's gonna be your best season opener? Alan Clinton says,
I think best season opening game will be Melton in Beuford,
And I also believe it might end up being the
best game all season. Oh wow, I think there may
be some truth of that. That is gonna be quite.

Speaker 3 (58:51):
The contest way to start off the season, right.

Speaker 2 (58:53):
It really is. And you know what, no harms really
gonna come out of it. If you win, lose, or draw,
you a non reaching I mean, you're obviously going up
against the best competition, which is always a good thing,
but also that Milon's not going there to lose a game.
Rodericuez Upshaw says, by the way, it's called the elephant walk,

(59:17):
and we don't do it to intimidate, but they just
checking the field.

Speaker 3 (59:21):
Mm hmm.

Speaker 1 (59:24):
I love that you check. Is there rappid holes out there?
What do you check it?

Speaker 2 (59:31):
I love it. I've always thought that that's great.

Speaker 1 (59:35):
It's cool, No, no doubt, it's cool.

Speaker 4 (59:37):
It's just uh, I think they really they caught our
kids off guard more than anything. Our kids were like that,
I'm moving, But it was like it wasn't anything defectively side.

Speaker 1 (59:45):
It was a great, great thing. I'm glad they do
it up there. But they're checking the films that they're
making sure. I'm glatter doing that.

Speaker 2 (59:52):
That's hilarious.

Speaker 3 (59:53):
Michael A. Lot of had a question for you, Phil,
He says, Hello, have you talked to Rish.

Speaker 2 (59:59):
Doug? I did talk to Rush. I sure did, Michael,
So two weeks ago I spoke to Rush, and guys,
just when you thought that you were ready to run
or a rite, Rush proached off not so fast. Okay,

(01:00:22):
this is kind of like the who was the famous
authors that Mark Twain the the rumors of my demise
are greatly exaggerated. Okay, was that Mark Twain? Sa?

Speaker 1 (01:00:36):
Mark asking me about the English.

Speaker 3 (01:00:39):
Had a lot of great quotes. But I don't know
if that was one of them.

Speaker 2 (01:00:42):
It may not be. You're right, so it's a good point.
He did have a lot. I'm not sure who it was,
but he basically was talking about the rumors of my
demise because there was rumors going around that he had passed,
and he came out and said, hey, the rumors of
my demise were greatly exaggerated. So I used that, and
a lot of people have used it to kind of
used it as an example certain situations like this one. Yeah,

(01:01:05):
so Rush approached spoke to him a couple of week
a week before last. So Rush is just doing a
little bit of coaching on the side. He's over there
at at CUSA where he was hired to be head coach,
and things didn't work out, so he left. He actually

(01:01:28):
left for he even coaching the first game, and that's
when he went to pil City, and you know, he
got into some apparently some disagreements with his ex wife
well publicized. However, I say all that to say that
Rush has got that taken care of. He and his
wife ex wife reached it out of court settlement and

(01:01:52):
now Rush is working. He and two partners have formed
a construction company installs mostly like athletic lockers, nice and
these big video boards. So I asked Russian he is
gonna get back into coaching. He said, hopefully one day.

(01:02:12):
But I gotta tell you, guys, I think Russia is
more happy now than he's ever been. He's getting a
chance to see as a kid play football, and I
think once that happens, Russia is gonna be freed up
to do basically whatever he wants.

Speaker 3 (01:02:25):
But that's also a great field that he's into it.
It really is, and it's still within athletics and Russia.

Speaker 2 (01:02:31):
You know, again can be a very polarizing figure. We
all know that. But anyway. Yeah, so there's the story
on Rush probes. Guys.

Speaker 3 (01:02:38):
Nice, thank you for.

Speaker 1 (01:02:39):
That freaking news.

Speaker 2 (01:02:42):
All right again, talking about the tricks of the opposing fans,
what is some of the better mind tricks that you've
seen teams? Use, I've described a couple Mazanie slide y'all,
talked about a couple any others that you got.

Speaker 3 (01:03:02):
I don't know if this is more of a mind game, uh,
rather than I think it's just like a characteristic And
one of that was, like, you know, when a player
has like a silent confidence about them, you know, they
don't get flustered. And part of that is, you know,
you know, you not being in their head, but they're

(01:03:22):
in your head and they have that silent confidence about
them that they know they're gonna make it happen in
the game. I really like that about players.

Speaker 2 (01:03:29):
Yeah, absolutely, And uh, you know, look good old trash talking.
There's no substitute for trash talking. Dion Sanders was probably
the best at trash talking. And you know when Dion
would do it, he basically was able to lock off
his entire side of the field.

Speaker 3 (01:03:47):
Yeah, he really did well.

Speaker 4 (01:03:50):
I think whatever you choose, you gotta you know the
kids called today stand you better, stand on business better
and be ready to back it up to your point
like Deon can back it up.

Speaker 1 (01:04:00):
I mean I like Mazani too.

Speaker 4 (01:04:02):
You said about the quiet one or the ones that
you know, the quiet ones, like, so you know every
you ever go kind of film, I'm I'm the do
you ever go to a bar and sit there and
at the quiet guy in the corner staring Yeah, Yeah,
that's the guy you gotta worry about, do right, that's
the guy you gotta worry about. So sometimes those quiet
guys can be the ones that the ones that have

(01:04:22):
to worry about. I liked as an administrator something I
think some administrators should do. We did in Milton. We
were very cordial. When you pulled up to our school.
We welcomed you. We made sure you had more than
one locker room, We made sure you had everything you
need for game. We really try to go our way
to take care of you. And what it did was
it just everybody just goes down a notch on that team.

(01:04:42):
Head coaches like, if somebody's nice to you, it's already
pissed off if they're nice, right, And I think it's
a way to get people off their guard a little bit,
and then we beat you, hopefully really good, and send
you home and send you home on your way, but
you at least go home going the nice people.

Speaker 1 (01:04:56):
I mean, we did it.

Speaker 4 (01:04:57):
We did it a lot, and I think that's important
in basketball, in football, other sports as well. And I
think that's something a lot of schools don't do. They
kind of put you in the in the.

Speaker 1 (01:05:05):
Back locker room and don't take care of you, and
all that does is fuel fire. I think just the opposite.

Speaker 4 (01:05:09):
Take care of people, make him feel welcome, and then
in the fuel take care of business.

Speaker 2 (01:05:14):
I like that. I like that. You know, I'll give
you another one. Okay, I'll never forget former Calwood County.
He had football coach who's now at Thomas County Central,
Justin what's the last name is its? Justin Rodgers. Yeah,
I have all these coaches going to my head. But

(01:05:35):
Justin Rogers told me before their playoff game this would
have been I guess his last game ever coached at
Calquick But I'm a second. They went to Colwood County
then I'm talking about went to Norcross and played Norcross
team coached by Keith maloof is that his name? Yes,

(01:05:56):
maloof So he told me Coach Rogers did that. The
field was absolutely sloppy and soupy and wet. Now the
funny thing is there's been no rain. Wow. So this

(01:06:16):
is when colchwack Gowny was running a spread offense a
lot of skill position players. Right, So what is the
worst thing you can do for a skill position player?
Spread kind of a spread offense. You got a lot
of receivers running a lot of quick receivers cutting routes.
What's the worst thing that can happen to them? They

(01:06:38):
get on a slippery surface, okay, and they could go nowhere.

Speaker 3 (01:06:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:06:43):
Well, I guess at the time Norcross was running a
more basic pro style offense and it worked out well
because they they won the game? Did Norcross?

Speaker 4 (01:06:55):
I can actually confirm that does happen. We played on
a playoff game in I think twenty thirteen or thirteen
was it maybe twelve or thirteen and they did the
same thing. Went to their field and it's grass, they
had it warded, and it's yeah, it's they that's something
they do that's not.

Speaker 3 (01:07:14):
Against any you know, Yeah, that sounds pretty illegal.

Speaker 1 (01:07:20):
Well, I mean, it's what can you say right.

Speaker 4 (01:07:22):
I mean you can sit there and say, you know,
rank came through earlier and sit there and say nothing.

Speaker 1 (01:07:26):
You can sometimes you have to cut it.

Speaker 4 (01:07:28):
Got a lot of teams outside the hashes don't cut
their field as low as inside the hashes, and that's
that's what comeback rocks are happened usually outside the hashes.
So if you're a team that does that, it actually
is advantageous to the other team.

Speaker 1 (01:07:40):
Right, So there's things people do.

Speaker 4 (01:07:42):
And now with the turf field, it's pretty much you know,
across the board even but there's still a few teams
that have grass left that dude, but they definitely do
that can definitely concur Coach Rider.

Speaker 2 (01:07:51):
What do you guys think about that? And do he
need you call it? With County fans remember that or
maybe you're even a Norcross fan, but I can remember
Coach Rogers actually coming on my shirt and he was
talking about that and he said, you know what, we
went on the field. My guys were coming back in

(01:08:12):
pregame warm up after pre game warm ups, and he coached,
the field is soaking wet, and you know, like like
Coach Lai said, though, you know, he went over and
talked to coach maloof head coach at Norcross at the time,
and you know what he expected him to say, Yeah, hey,
we like our field water before the game. You know
the thing about it, both teams have got to play

(01:08:33):
on that field. Yeah, but it obviously played into the
hand of one particular team and that would have been
the haunting. Yeah true, So there you go.

Speaker 3 (01:08:44):
I saw an interesting comment here about Stephen k Wynn.
He says, OOSMANI Cromat has that nice, nasty demeanor when
we were talking talking about like, you know, that's not
in confidence, you.

Speaker 2 (01:08:54):
Know, yeh. Jerry O'Neill, Jerry, what's something my man? Jerry
O'Neill says, I saw Hobby play a double hitter, a
double header against Lounges, one left handed and one right handed.
So sly, I don't know if you've been hearing me
talk about Ken Hobby. That is the best I've ever seen,
ambidexterous guy. And as Jerry O'Neill is saying, Ken Hobby

(01:09:19):
would come out and throw right handed pitch. The first
game is when you can do this. He comes up
to the next game, he's got now a right handed
glove and he's throwing lefty.

Speaker 3 (01:09:31):
You can't do that now, Well, I don't think you can.

Speaker 2 (01:09:34):
You can pitch back to back game. I think as
a rule is how we can secutive innings or how
many innings in a game you can pitch? Is that right? Sly?

Speaker 1 (01:09:44):
Well, first off, that's crazy, that's amazing.

Speaker 4 (01:09:46):
Yeah, number number two, they have a pitch count official
now that does pitch county. So I'm not sure how
that wolve pulls into play back to back. But uh,
he's only some pitchers you can pitch and they're gonna
pull you no matter what. Is a pitch counter now,
so this guy, you have to pay that official every
game in baseball the count pitches.

Speaker 1 (01:10:05):
I want that.

Speaker 2 (01:10:05):
I want that job, by the way, I'm saying, no doubt.
All right, what else are you guys? Uh? And let's
go to y'all's comments. Man, let's make you guys more
of a part of what we're talking about. We have
been talking a good bit. What do you guys have
to say about the the topic today? Uh, you can
help me out here for Zoni. My my screen is

(01:10:26):
going dark.

Speaker 3 (01:10:26):
I'm looking see Alan Clinton. I think you might already
read this comment, says I think best season season opening
game would be Milton and oh yeah, you said might
be the best game off season. Let me see you
by the way.

Speaker 2 (01:10:40):
Secondary point and while you're Mazagnis is looking for that,
we're looking for your suggestion. If you could catch one
season opener this year, which one would it be? What
do you think is gonna be the best season opener?
I have previews and series ongoing series. I'm writing, I'm
looking at the best season opener so far Milton, Buford,

(01:11:03):
Lee County winner Robbins and Colwick County Benedictine opened the year.
Who would you say is gonna top those?

Speaker 3 (01:11:13):
While people are coming in about that, right, Drucus Upstrow
mentioned he says, oh, I'm going Gainesville and say, Deshaun
Watson and Blick Sims.

Speaker 2 (01:11:21):
I'm surprised more people have not seen as not mentioned. Yes,
he's a great player, unbelievable player.

Speaker 4 (01:11:29):
Both to Shawn and Blake were great players.

Speaker 2 (01:11:32):
Here's here's a situation where his uh, his reputation is
doing him no favors really right now? Yeah, well, Deshaun Watson,
you know he got he got accused of I guess
allegedly the allegations that he was. I guess cohearsing massus.

(01:11:55):
He had a bunch of massuses to work on him,
and let's just say things went beyond the normal. I
guess massaging and the muscles.

Speaker 3 (01:12:05):
I didn't know that.

Speaker 2 (01:12:06):
Yeah, yeah, big time story. And but Cleveland Brown signed
him to a load of money.

Speaker 3 (01:12:13):
Yeah, I'm like, he's doing great out there.

Speaker 2 (01:12:15):
Yeah it doesn't matter. Yeah, tell you so whatever it takes.

Speaker 3 (01:12:18):
No.

Speaker 2 (01:12:20):
But anyway, so uh, yes, so we're talking about a
myriad of things here. So let's see Rodriquez Upshaw. Okay,
so he was talking. We talked about that earlier over
dow Farley says, I got a question for the coach
looking at the schedule, what team do you think will
give Milton a hard time in twenty twenty five?

Speaker 1 (01:12:38):
Mm besides Buford, Yes, I think so Gainsel.

Speaker 3 (01:12:45):
That was quick.

Speaker 2 (01:12:46):
That was quick. Okach didn't his say one bit?

Speaker 1 (01:12:50):
Yeah, I think games would be good. I think this
would be a great game. I think that might be uh,
you know, for the whole region.

Speaker 4 (01:12:55):
Or Rosal have something to say about that as well,
you would, you know, coach up to but but but yeah,
I mean Gamesville is gonna be a definite big game
that could definitely give us problems.

Speaker 2 (01:13:08):
Guys, I will tell you this. I think this season
is gonna tell a lot. Here's here's the thing I've
been telling a lot of people. Do you guys realize
how many quarterbacks, good quarterbacks we lost this past year?

Speaker 3 (01:13:25):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:13:26):
Aj Hill from Houston County gone, Juju Lewis from Carrollton gone.
Luke Nickel from Milton Gone. Westn Bryan from Lee County gone.

Speaker 3 (01:13:41):
True.

Speaker 2 (01:13:43):
Yeah, the young man that pitched for uh, Jones County,
I'm sorry you played quarterback. I think I said pitched.

Speaker 3 (01:13:53):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:13:53):
The player that played quarterback for Jones County graduated. The
young man that played for New Hampstead the quarterback and
his name escapes me, but he was really one of these.
He kind of flew under the radar, but he's gone. Yeah,
And I'm just I know, I'm just getting on several
more whom I'm missing. Let me see here, who am

(01:14:19):
I missing?

Speaker 4 (01:14:19):
Guys? That you got a bunch right there. Dang, that's
I mean, that's that's that's who's who of quarterbacks that
are that we've had a pleasure of watching for a
couple of years now, Phil right, And now they're all.

Speaker 2 (01:14:33):
And that's the thing about it. And you know we've
seen like Luke was one of two three year starter
I believe, yeah, uh Juju Lewis was three year starter,
four year starter probably, so now he reclassified.

Speaker 3 (01:14:45):
Yes, and the cod year.

Speaker 2 (01:14:49):
I think it was. I think it was. Yeah, And
uh so he should have had or would have had
another year of eligibility.

Speaker 3 (01:14:58):
Okay, but I says we still have Ellen Johnson. This
is his senior year.

Speaker 2 (01:15:03):
Yeah, yeah, he's gonna be I'll tell you that's gonna
be the young man to watch right there. Yeah, Jalen Johnson.

Speaker 3 (01:15:10):
And but then we also talked a lot about other
rising high schoolers, you know, even quarterbacks who are like,
who's gonna fill these athletes shoes? Like, but you know,
necessarily fill their shoes, but rather fill the position. Yeah,
you know, and I see a lot of great time
coming up. So they may not even miss a beat.

Speaker 2 (01:15:27):
They may not. But you know what, I don't know.
I mean, it's hard to find another Luke Nickel. I
have said this so many times. I never forget watching
him in that Kalkwick County game. He took that game
over and he was the difference in Milton being able

(01:15:50):
to come back. Guys, that was the game flowing year.
Was it two years ago?

Speaker 1 (01:15:56):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:15:56):
Two years ago, guys, Colchwick County is man handling Milton
in that game. I don't think SLA is going to
disagree with me. They I mean they were taking it
to him slave.

Speaker 1 (01:16:08):
Yeah, they did, for sure. And they were talented, they
were man.

Speaker 2 (01:16:12):
That was a year they had all those those seniors
that wanted to play a big universities and over there,
I'll never forget. They came out and they were rocking
and rolling, I mean, putting it in the end zone
and Milton was just hanging on. And then in that
second half, Luke Nickel decides to take the game on
his shoulder and he did running the football with I

(01:16:37):
mean just he was a powerhouse runner and he was
throwing the football. He was doing everything. And I remember
thinking then that young man is special and he was
in the rest is history.

Speaker 3 (01:16:50):
As they say, that's hard player to lose.

Speaker 4 (01:16:52):
Yeah, here's here's a funny side story to that. So
the next year, we're playing American Heritage at their place
on ESPN and Lou Kirch's hand in the second quarter
right before halftime, and we thought he broke it, and
he's on the sidelines and it's like thirty seconds leftfo
A halftime, and I said to the trainer, walk away
from him, don't talk to him because the camera's on him,

(01:17:14):
right And I said, Luke, put you a helmet in
your hand and walk off the field with your helmet
like nothing wrong.

Speaker 1 (01:17:20):
And he did, as the kid's so tough. He did.

Speaker 4 (01:17:22):
He got in the locker room and then behind closed
doors we checked him. He went back in and for
a couple of weeks there he wasn't broken. A couple
weeks there we were really like on finn Ice with
his hands.

Speaker 1 (01:17:33):
It healed up. But some tough kidd he goes.

Speaker 4 (01:17:35):
You know, I said, just act like you're fine because
of the right now watching us walk off this field.
And you know that's the kid is. He's just like
to your point, you can't that's something you don't coach.
That's something that's stilled by his patents. And he's you know,
he's a tough kid, great leader.

Speaker 2 (01:17:51):
No no surprise there for sure.

Speaker 1 (01:17:54):
All right.

Speaker 2 (01:17:55):
Uh so all right, let's see here looking at some
of the comments.

Speaker 3 (01:18:01):
Yeah, here Terence d he mentioned, of course, Todd Robinson. Oh, yeah,
m another great standout quarterback.

Speaker 2 (01:18:12):
You know. Look, i'd like to get an update on
Todd by the way. Oh what a player. And you
know what Todd Todd Robinson quarterback for he was a
late bloomer. Yeah, he was not a conventional traditional quarterback.
But let me tell you that junior senior year, he

(01:18:35):
just boomed. Let me just exploded into the superstar. So
good for him. But that's another good one, best you
ever saw at any one position. I'm finding it interesting
we haven't had a defensive end. We haven't had a linebacker.

Speaker 3 (01:18:52):
I don't think mentioned No, what I mean, can we
consider Luc Nelson?

Speaker 2 (01:18:57):
Who's that?

Speaker 3 (01:18:57):
Luca Nelson? Luke Nelson, Man, Nicole, I'm sorry, Nicol.

Speaker 2 (01:19:05):
Luke Nelson, big Beeford getting going back to the glory
Days's gonna put him in coach. I love it.

Speaker 3 (01:19:12):
You know, we were talking about how he was a
linebacker who was in traditionally a quarterback. But yeah, then
we mentioned he has some linebacker history.

Speaker 1 (01:19:20):
You played linebacker tiose freshman year.

Speaker 2 (01:19:22):
Didn't know that.

Speaker 3 (01:19:23):
We're just talking about it last week.

Speaker 2 (01:19:26):
You know what, now I remember I do remember, Yes,
yes we did. That's right.

Speaker 4 (01:19:30):
You don't good, good catch and your Home Shock then
mentioned it all too. We mentioned Tavis Hunter, right winner,
All right, what about what about George Rogers?

Speaker 2 (01:19:41):
Yeah? Yeah, I went on to play in South Carolina,
right right?

Speaker 1 (01:19:46):
Then? He want a husband too?

Speaker 2 (01:19:48):
He won two Heismans.

Speaker 4 (01:19:49):
If I'm not mistaken, I mean, we don't know that.
That's crazy? How much that shows how much talents in
the state. Film is Honie that you can leave that
guy's name off the list?

Speaker 3 (01:19:58):
Yeah, there's so much talent.

Speaker 2 (01:20:00):
Well, so let me say this though, Okay, I just
wonder and I hope no one misunderstands what I'm saying here,
but there are some people who are really questioned whether
the Heisman Trophy is truly, truly, truthfully going to and

(01:20:21):
I think the fact that Travis Hunter wanted this past
year is going to change the whole outlook on the
Heisman Trophy. And what I'm trying to say here, I'm
not doing a very good job explaining it. But there
for a while, the Heisman Trophy was pretty much offensive
player only, and it was pretty much quarterback and running

(01:20:44):
back only. Yeah, that's that's really what the Heisman Trophy
was and had become for years and years but now
you've got a player like Travis Hunter who's just kind
of an all everything player.

Speaker 3 (01:20:57):
Yeah, I would say both sides of the ball.

Speaker 2 (01:20:59):
But it would be good to you know, to stretch
out and end up and to reach out, branch out
and find another player that would be eligible to win
the Heisman Trophy. And he's not a quarterback or running back.

Speaker 3 (01:21:13):
Yeah, I agree.

Speaker 2 (01:21:14):
So I just have a little bit of problem with that.

Speaker 3 (01:21:17):
So what maybe he's breaking that tradition.

Speaker 2 (01:21:20):
Hopefully so yeah, hopefully So.

Speaker 3 (01:21:22):
I know. Steve O. K Winn he coming and said
Western Brian two and a half year starter.

Speaker 2 (01:21:27):
Yeah, so you've also got the uh, of course it's
not really maybe the best I've ever seen, but we
could be having this conversation with this young man, of course,
talking about the quarterback from Lowndes of Jason Johnson, who
they say is remember I did that story on the
Ones to Watch. Yes, this is one of those ones

(01:21:52):
to watch. Certainly going to keep an eye.

Speaker 3 (01:21:54):
On him over and I have said cam.

Speaker 2 (01:21:57):
Brooks uh yeah, nob hell, Stephen k w Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:22:02):
Huh tc C. Yeah yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:22:05):
Stephen k Winn says Juju reclassified to graduate early. No, yes,
that's right, Thomas kny Central. All right, Stephen k Win,
I got Weston over Luke on the wrestling mat. Yeah,
that was pretty cool seeing Weston on the Uh. After this,

(01:22:25):
I went in the state championship. Hey, look, you know
I wouldn't tell you. I don't wintn Did Luke wrestle any.

Speaker 1 (01:22:35):
Luke did wrestle a little bit?

Speaker 2 (01:22:37):
He did, sure, Yeah, but yeah, look, I mean, uh,
in fairness, Steven, that's just not his thing, man. He's
completely devoted to football. And uh, we wish both those
young men work, but wish him the best rather but uh,
it's kind of interesting though throwing that out there. You know,
if they were to get on the wrestling man now,
they would.

Speaker 1 (01:22:54):
Do Yeah, I think.

Speaker 4 (01:22:56):
I mean, as much as I love Luke, I trust
Luke and everything, I think I'd have to give the
uh the west Bryan for sure.

Speaker 2 (01:23:03):
Look who's here. It's Terry Tarretta Mayorretta is in the house.
Tarretta Mayretta, one of our biggest fans. And of course
Marietta Blue Devils fan is in the house. What's up, Tayretta.

Speaker 3 (01:23:19):
I believe you included her on the post rate I
did went up there, Yes, worked out with them.

Speaker 2 (01:23:25):
I did. I did. I shared the the the a
little bit of the some of the video that they got,
and I said, Tarretta Marietta and uh our guy, uh
Flint Dykes from it t g Next they went up
there and got some video of the Blue Devils lifting weights.

(01:23:45):
We also did the same thing at Milton.

Speaker 3 (01:23:47):
Yeah, serious workout.

Speaker 2 (01:23:49):
Oh absolutely absolutely, So that's part of what we do
here at it t G NEX guys loving it, building
up these high school student athletes, coaches, fans everywhere. So
tarredda pre ship you posting that for us as well?
All right? Yeah, so what I did say indeed, cam Brooks,
all right? Who else we got in the house?

Speaker 3 (01:24:12):
Oh, but I was keeping us alive. He mentioned Caleb Anderson?
Who Caleb Anderson? Does that mean?

Speaker 2 (01:24:19):
Who is that? Uh? Who is that? Who is that?
I don't know that name? Do you know that name? Sly?

Speaker 3 (01:24:26):
I do not know that name.

Speaker 2 (01:24:30):
Now we're getting into uh the parts unknown for sure.

Speaker 3 (01:24:36):
It says Rabun will be traveling up to play mass Aline.

Speaker 2 (01:24:40):
What's that?

Speaker 3 (01:24:41):
Raybun gap will be traveling up to play Masyline. That's
what Steve?

Speaker 2 (01:24:46):
How about that you're talking about? Are looking forward to
our season openers this year. I did not realize Raven
Gap it'll be traveling up to play Massaline far too.

Speaker 3 (01:24:58):
That's a whole I don't wish that on anybody.

Speaker 2 (01:25:01):
I don't either interesting thing about Raven Gap. So they
are in Georgia, just barely.

Speaker 3 (01:25:10):
Yeah, Ravend County, right.

Speaker 4 (01:25:12):
This is.

Speaker 2 (01:25:14):
Uh so, no, no, not Raven County. So Raven Gap
is up near the is right on the Georgia North
Carolina line. And they are Raven Gap slash Nagakuchi, I

(01:25:34):
think is what it's called. It's really hard to pronounce.
But they are a Georgia school. However, they play in
the North Carolina Independent School League.

Speaker 3 (01:25:52):
They could do that.

Speaker 2 (01:25:53):
Okay, it's surprised me as well. But they are an
absolute powerhouse and and uh they're gonna be ready. That's
gonna be a good one there between those two going
up to Massillon.

Speaker 3 (01:26:04):
Is this the school, rounds Gillespie. Is that is that
the one?

Speaker 2 (01:26:07):
Uh? No, he is at Raven County, got yep a right, guys,
were down to our last minute of the show. This
is the point where we kind of get some uh
some of your last thoughts. We get our last thoughts
Stephen K Winn says they were the North Carolina private
school runner up last year. Yeah, they're always in the

(01:26:30):
running for state championship. They're the ones. By the way,
speaking of regular season openers, Raven Gap opened with Prince
Avenue Christian last year and that was part of the
erk Russell Classic wake up over there. So we had

(01:26:52):
Raven Gap open against Benedict and not Benedict team, but
Prince Avenue Christian last year. That was in the erk
Russell Classic, and that's when Raven Gap got everybody's attention
because they put a beat down on a very good
Prince Avenue Christian football secon who was the defending state champion.

Speaker 3 (01:27:13):
By the way, they were.

Speaker 2 (01:27:16):
By the way, we wish Brig Vandergriff, former head coach,
all the best. He is a friend of mine, great coach,
great man, like him a lot, and he is on
his way to a coach in South Carolina.

Speaker 3 (01:27:31):
I think it'd be interesting the closest we get to
a spring and just the season in general, what kind
of coaching changes we have. You know, how many places
still need coaches or do you know any top of
you know, any school that comes right to your head.

Speaker 2 (01:27:48):
I don't. I don't. I know, that's one of the
things we were going to talk about. We'll put it
off till next week, so guys would come to the
end of the show, all right, our final thoughts. Who
wants to lay us off?

Speaker 1 (01:28:02):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (01:28:03):
Yeah, what you got?

Speaker 1 (01:28:05):
It's very simple.

Speaker 4 (01:28:07):
It's the fact that, like I said earlier, we could
talk about the best there ever was, and we can
go on probably hours and now in tipity Iceberg, the
talent the state of Georgia through the decades and decades,
even recent times.

Speaker 1 (01:28:21):
You can just go to last ten years.

Speaker 4 (01:28:22):
When you go back like you did back to ninety eight,
I think any one is when that young man or
eighty played at.

Speaker 1 (01:28:28):
Uh you know Ken Hobby.

Speaker 4 (01:28:30):
So it's just I think we're just blessed to have
so much talent in the state and uh and have
opportunity to talk about it and uh, you know, celebrate it.

Speaker 2 (01:28:38):
Mm hmm you're here.

Speaker 3 (01:28:39):
Yeah. So again, another great show, another great Monday. And
