we are in the summer and itwas a well, it's busy travel
(06:11):
weekend for the fourth they broke somerecords, so people are getting out and
I check your travel though when you'regoing out there, because we got some
pretty heavy weather in some areas.Seems like there's a national holiday. Boy,
I was looking, so I wasgoing to share some of the nationalities.
Seems like every day there's a nationalholiday. I'll give you an idea.
(06:33):
Today is National Video Game Day,and at breaking kids or be a
kid and not break a kid,be a Kid's Day, a Blueberry Day,
and for our members out there thathave the name Denise, Like I
(06:53):
remember someone who did the under ThyFather's Awards and that's a Denise. Denise's
still congratulations, it's national Denise DAEI. Oh. Anyway, we'll go on
and there's a lot of them. But interesting, keep your eye on the
weather because there's that hurricane, thatheavy weather storm v E R y L
(07:17):
burial. Not sure if I pronounceit right, but it's heavy storms,
heavy rain, and you got tokeep your eye on that one. It's
around Houston and could be across theUS this week. So Democrats seem to
be in kind of a turmoil. What's going on with the stars moving forward
(07:40):
with the thing he's staying put. Some of them are saying he should both
side. So we'll see what goeson with that. And we have thousands
of Palestinians of fleeing the Israeli attackingGaza City. Much aid is still coming
across through the docks that the USbuilt, and accepts the US proposal on
(08:01):
the talks about releasing the hostages. So we have there's so much, all
right, So Marconi is a situationthat the France election favored left now but
a lot of turbulence ahead that wegot to stay on that pans out as
far as the election went, so, Eric, there's just a lot.
(08:22):
The Bloomberg of Philanthropy donates a billiondollars to make John Hopkins Medical School free.
That's that's that's a lot of moneyto help them, and the funds
will also expand aid to help schoolswith other programs and a lot of stuff.
(08:43):
Eric, But I know we gotto move along here because we're running
a little bit behind and our timeto time goes so fast. But Americans
are starting to look at the athome industry as far as being in shape.
I like that the baby owners arestarting to well, whether it's joining
a club or buying the equipment athome, at least they're becoming more aware
(09:09):
of being in shape. And alot of stuff is being seen online like
Facebook, that a lot of peopleare coming on giving you tips on foods
to eat and certain exercises to doto help out and imbrate. Some of
them douse sometimes, but that's agood thing, you know, staying in
shape, because if you're not inshape, you're not going to be so
(09:31):
it's not going to help you much. If you're successful in the field and
then you wind up falling over.I've been doing that lately. I had
a couple of balls myself. Becareful of that, especially with the seniors
and the showers and things. I'vehad statistics on that and it's off the
yards. But the number of peoplewho do the slipping falls cutting out of
(09:52):
the tower and it could do thatshould be a game changer for your retirement.
Well, that music means that it'stime to bring in our special guest
who is a Silver members You guysto look her up on the Easy Way
Wall of Fame, Heidi Drummins, which is you know, she's an alternative
(10:16):
wealth strategist and she's learned. It'syou know, there's so much you can
do in life, but uh,when it comes to your money, you
know, setting forth, uh prettyready for the tack dollaries or talk to
the you know, do stock investmentsand you know the market doesn't take uh
(10:37):
A those guys, you need tomake sure that you check you check that
out. And and Heidi knows allthings in uh in finance and she's a
she's a an expert in that inthat field. And uh again, if
you want to connect to Heidi. You can. You can connect to to
her on the easy Way Wall ofFame. But her passion is is really
(11:01):
behind helping others and understand how theirmoney works and how to get it to
work harder for them and ensure thatthey don't turn they don't run out of
money in retirement. And there theloss that are listening to the course of
the show. And and you know, whether you're looking for a place or
other than stock market, you know, put to put some money. You
(11:22):
know you can get double digit returns. And Heidi knows that. Packos who
knows who knows all about that.So we're going to learn more about what
to do with your money and againconnect with Heidi at the easily Hall of
Fame if you want to connect withwhat she says today. Welcome to the
show, Hidi Drummond, Heidi,Welcome to the show, Heidi. Heidi.
(11:43):
How is Heid she do me?You hear me? Now I can
hear you. I'll tell you what, Heidi. Everybody has got their ears
claud Grim here because you read somuch about what's going on. Everything could
all apart and there could be anotherrecession. There could be another there's a
(12:03):
set and but you sit down andsay, Okay, well what does that
actually mean? I mean, there'srumors about banks closing up, so it's
going to be a tricky question here. But what is the safe place?
I mean, do you keep moneyin savings which you know there's no there's
not much interest there. Should youkeep them in your stocks? What do
(12:26):
you recommend? Is there really somespooky thing I had for us or what
do you think? Well? Ican't tell the future, but yes,
there are a lot of opinions outthere that there are some not good things
coming. But all we do isthe best that we can with what we
know today. And that's what Ihelped with is understand what they have,
(12:46):
where they are and where they wantto go, and different tools that are
available to them to get there. And it's not the same for everybody.
No, everybody has a different riskthreshold. We want clarify though I'm not
a financial advisor. I'm just somebodythat figures this stuff out for myself and
now I want to share it withanybody else who's trying to figure it out.
(13:09):
There's so many things I need understandabout work, so we need that
and you know, was it anythingin particular that got you down this path
because maybe you did a little researchand you're finding out that everybody really isn't
set just because they get the retirement. There's a lot of people out there
(13:31):
that don't have that two million dollarsin savings. What was it that took
you down the path to financial Itwas a few years ago that I could
see my retirement on the horizon, and I got to thinking, where's my
money coming from, what's my moneydoing? What did my financial advisor tell
me what to do with my money? And I just started digging in and
(13:52):
figuring things out, and come tofind out that I didn't like the stuff
that my financial advisor had called meto you, And so I moved the
money around and learned about different opportunitiesout there that most people don't know about.
And I just once I figured outfor myself, I felt like they're
probably were a few people out therethat could benefit from this knowledge. So
(14:15):
that's book educator. So I likedit because this is hands down, you're
you're kind of you got down tothe nitty gritty and you figured it out.
So there's a lot of stuff comingup on the Facebook and all these
things and they're saying, wow, look up, this person saying this,
and this person's saying that. Andthey had five hundred dollars in the bank,
(14:37):
and they bought a few penny stocksfor pennies under dollars and all of
a sudden there worth ten thousand dollarsa share, and they're you know,
you see these stories their picture ofthem next to their big yacht and everything,
and a year ago they were broke. So if somebody was out,
what would you say when they havea few thousand As far as the stock
(14:58):
marke, it goes, how doyou what's the best way to tiptoe into
that world that you're not too familiarwith but you don't want to lose out?
I say the AI world. Youknow, like, hey, this
is interesting, and I don't wantto be the guy sitting on the sidelines
that a year ago I could havegot into this, and I did.
And now my neighbor did it.He's got a red new car that they
(15:20):
paid cash for. What would yousay, as far as stocks go,
I do not say anything about stocks. I have no money in the stock
market. I don't want to.I don't want to take that risk because
I just don't know, what wouldyou say your your expertise Lane in money
(15:43):
is really my expertise is helping somebodyunderstand where they are, because a lot
of people don't understand where they are. They don't even know what they have
to even get started looking at whatto do with they have. You know,
they've got this CD, that CD, they had, this SCORL and
(16:03):
K from that job, this sorreland K from that job, you know,
and and so initially I just helpedthem get all their ducks in one
row, so we can see wherethey're starting from. Okay, so break
break that, Break that down tome so that you help them get all
their ducts in one row and andbasically help them get started with money.
(16:25):
So break down your onboarding process andand what what a customer would would get
as far as a takeaway if theywere to hire you as a money strategist.
Well, first of all, Idon't charge anybody to work with them
to help them understand where they are. That's just my gifts to them.
We go through and do a financialneeds analysis and get all their information in
(16:48):
one place so that we can lookat it and once we see what we
have what they have, then wefind out what are their goals, what
are they trying to achieve? Arethey you know, it's everybody's situation is
different. Is different? Are theysingle? Do they have kids, no
kids? Fouts, grandkids? Youknow, everybody's different. You know,
I myself, I'm single and Ihave no children. So I was all
(17:10):
about finding out how I could makeas much money with the money that I
have and spend all my money beforeI die, you know. I mean,
but other people want to leave alegacy for their family and other people,
you know, just everybody's goals aredifferent. So that's the second step,
after we look at everything they have, figuring out what it is they
really want to do with their future. You know, you hear stories of
people that you know, they retireand they don't do anything because they want
(17:33):
to give their money to their kids. Well, I can show you how
you can retire, spend your moneyand still give money to your kids.
You know, it's just you giveus an EXAMPLD on dead. I would
love to get the case study example, or can you share a story with
us? Heidi, and I'm justtrying to edify you as the expert you
(17:55):
are in money strategy. Can youshare a story with us on one of
your clients that you helped make moremoney or save more money, or manage
their money, just so our listeningaudits can get a better idea and wrap
their head around your your direct expertise. Well, there are a lot of
(18:15):
different stories I had, you know, a while ago. One of the
things that I helped people with isdifferent areas to put them money that's not
tied to the stock market, thatgives them double digit returns. And there
was a period of time there whereI had people that were in a vehicle
that was paying them ten percent everyninety days and that you know, good
(18:37):
things don't last forever, and thatwas great for a while, and people
made a lot of money in thatdeal. And then once that went away,
we had this extra money and wewere able to put it in something
else. I can't really give youspecifics on specific people, but it's really
what did they want. That's I'mmore of an educator than I am.
I'm not, like I said,I'm not a financial advisor. It's more
(18:59):
money. That's that's really interesting. You say that that's so ten percent on
return on their money. Because I'ma stock investor myself. I invest into
technology, a lot of technology stockand I and I get a return on
my money, but it's it's nota real fast return. Sometimes it's you
know, it depends on what typeof stock it is. But you said
that you've got somebody ten percent oftheir money or double their money or whatever
(19:22):
it is. Give us an exampleof how you did that. So again,
I'm just trying to get our listenersto understand why they would want to
get in touch with you and andif you could share a story. You
know, our listeners always enjoy stories. But I'm just trying to wrap my
head around how you get how you'rehelping our customers, our members, our
(19:42):
listeners get more money for their money. And there's a big difference in ten
percent and double your money, andthe risk goes up substantially when people are
talking about these high returns. Heyguys, remember we are live and interactive
(20:03):
right now, where you guys canchat, you can ask your questions,
you can you can you know, tune in and tell you tell your friends.
You can press the share button. You know, so can you answer
answer that for us? Heidi? So for myself, I can use my
own example I had. I wasable to get into a situation where I
(20:26):
could double my money in three years, and I took all of my money
out of an annuity actually and putit in this and it's doubling in three
years, and that's going to begrow a lot faster than it would if
it had been in the annuity. And then I can turn back around and
put some more money into the annuity. So it gave me much more flexibility
because I had a larger pile ofmoney to work with. Okay, they
(20:49):
are so that they start. Accordingto serve Me, fifty three percent have
less than ten thousand dollars saved.Fifty three percent of Americans. What would
you say a good start is ifsomebody's out there saying, well, you
know, I got that's a fewthousand dollars, I'm forty five years old
or whatever. Where would be tostart gate going out the gate? Hold
(21:14):
on? Let me let me letme ask this, what makes you passionate
about doing this? You know, like, what why did you go down
the path of being an alternative wealthstrategist? Basically? But what's your passion
behind your purpose? My passion reallyis to help people not run out of
money in retirement, because that isthe scariest, saddest thing when you see
(21:37):
somebody eighty five years old and theyhave to go be a greeter at Walmart
because they don't have anything. That'sright, that's right. I see it
all the time. And what questionif I ask people is would you rather
be rich or would you rather havea guarantee that you would never be poor?
Yeah? Why help? It doesn'tmatter how much you start with,
it's what you do with it.You know. One of the things that
(22:00):
the common train the thought is I'llput all my money in a four one
K and I'll pay off my houseand I should be set, you know
with social Security. Well, alot of people don't understand that the money
you're putting in in the flour oneK is not your money. It's your
money and the tax man's money. That money has not been taxed, so
(22:22):
that money will get taxed when youstart taking it out. Now. I
don't know if people realize this, but during the pandemic, the government printed
up forty percent more than money supply. They increased some money supplied by forty
percent. That's why we have somuch inflation right now. And so my
question to them is what do youthink that taxes are going to be higher
or lower in the future, probablyhigher and probably a lot higher. So,
(22:48):
you know, the four one payvehicle. When it was first introduced,
tax rates were really high. Sothe whole idea of putting it in
before taxing and paying the taxes outlater was because they thought tax rates will
be going down. Well, nowthe tax rates are going to be going
up. You're putting money in taxfree now and not paying the taxes now,
whereas later you're going to have ahigher tax rate to pay. So
(23:11):
the qually pay doesn't make any senseanymore. But nobody explains that to people.
You know, do what employers tellthem to do, you know,
if if nothing else, start puttingyour money into a fourwin k loss if
your company offers that to you.You know, there's things I read what
said the safest investment with the highestreturn would be something like a high yield
(23:33):
a savings account or a money marketfund, a short term certificate, a
deposit, and so on. Butthen there's other investments people talking about,
you know, what they might investin, something different like the uh,
the antique cars or coins, youknow, the classic cars, things like
(23:56):
that. What's your thought on what'syour thought on the money chain, Heidi.
You know, a lot of peopleare saying that the dollar is going
to go away, and it's goingto go to gold, and it's going
to go to other type of currency. I'm sure that that will happen somewhere
in the future, but I thinkright now that would be a very hard
thing for them to pull off becausethere are a lot of people out there
(24:18):
that don't have access to technology andthey depend on the dollar bill, you
know, the income people, buthomeless they need that paper money. Oh
yeah, they said that would bea disaster if they did that around the
world. Oh, that's not goingto happen anytime soon. Yeah, but
they are. They are making Imean, they are making a lot of
headway and a lot of movements. Most of the banks, if you do
(24:41):
research, are have all gone tocryptocurrency, and a lot of them,
from what I'm hearing, are startingto move towards gold. So if you
look at the mainstream brick and mortarplatforms, if they're going down a direction,
wouldn't you think that that's kind ofyou know, showing that kind of
the way it's going. Yeah, yeah, uh, But then again,
you know, Uh, when youthink about it, how how often do
(25:04):
you see somebody going to the storepulling out cash. I mean that's another
thing that I teach my clients aboutis that you know, if you if
you pay task for stuff, thatmoney is gone. Let me show you
ways to get your money to earntwice as much for every dollar. You
(25:26):
know, so it's without going intoall the specifics, we have ways that
can show you how to do that. Pack three. You know, we
all strategy, so some of thethings that you oh, sorry, go
ahead, no, I was justgoing to say. And social Security is
another thing. You know, peopledon't know that there are different things that
(25:48):
you can do with social Security soit becomes inheritable so that it can earn
twice as much for you. Andand there are ways to make your social
Security tax free. And we onlyhave another minute left and we got to
get to the next segment. Ijust want to get this out for everybody.
Some of the things that you teachyour clients are you know, banking
(26:08):
irs, your advisor, and youmay not want them to you may not
want them to know a few thingsto help your clients, you teach them.
It looks like how to pay offmortgages up to seventy percent, faster
earn double digit rates of return, safely eliminate or drastically reduced student loan payments,
(26:33):
ways to put their retirement funds towork so they don't have to run
out of money. It sounds likeyou have a lot of expertise and we
definitely recommend you. Guys go checkout Heidi Drummond at the easy Way network

you know, we can so much. I would I get played we have
you bag. There's too much.I mean, I had a list of

I've got a wonderful reason for feelingthat way. I've got a wonderful

In fact, he is a worldrenowned artist. His colorful, prolific
art. I mean when I sayprolific, I mean he just really gets
it out there. You must becranking it out twenty four to seven.
(30:53):
But he's got a collection that isunbelievable. I've been at his art gallery
in Beverly Hills and the collection isjust beyond your imagination. It is basically
inspired by modern masters styles of artsuch as Cubism and art Expressionism, and
(31:15):
he has his own way of handlingthat with the way he selects his colors

(32:34):
Beverly Hills at the Beverly Hilton Hotelwhere he honored Wolfgang Puck UH with a
big painting which was unveiled at hisexhibition there along with the painting that he
did to recognize the homeless, andit is a a a work of art
(32:55):
that was on exhibition to the dedicatedto benefit the homeless by feeding them.
And his art was just widely receivedthere by his son, the son of
(33:16):
Wolfgang, who presented it with him. And also we had the Wet Productions
head there who was very instrumental inproducing it and promoting it. So without
any further Ado, let me bringon Emmy Lou because there's so much more
(33:36):
I could say about him, butI could go on and on. Emmy,
are you there. Yes, verygood. Yeah, I was kind
of rambling there for a minute. But anyway, we go way back,
and I met you because of AnnieHilton Sweeney. She was a shaker and
a mover in the music industry andI often thought of her as a music
(34:01):
mogul because of her role, youknow, as part of the music industry,
as the founder of the Pre GrammyMusic Industry Celebration. And in fact,
I have a funny story about thatbecause even though she was a member
of Narras, they thought because ofher use of the name pre Grammy that
(34:22):
there was some kind of a conflictthere. So she changed it to the
Pre Grammy Music Industry Celebration and thatseemed to work okay. But anyway,
we have a lot of stories thatwe could share. Tell me, how
did you meet Bonny Hilton Swiney.Oh, well, that's a very long
(34:45):
story because that moment because my fatherwas an m buss that's United States for
you, and he had moved toBritain, where I grew up and studied
my work I'll find art in LondonSchool of In nineteen ninety two, I
came to California through a famous interiordesigner, Ian Tyson. I stayed with
(35:10):
him for a few weeks. Hehad he's a British guy, he's from
England, and he called me inLondon. I was actually producing music that
time. I was not too muchin painting. I'd actually got away from
painting. So our record company collapsedand then Ian called me and said,
Emmy, I'm an english Man thatyou're not going to make it in London,
(35:32):
Well you need to do to joinme here in California. In fact,
Metal Father at that time he hadmade a project one of the guys
produced a star Trek. He wasworking on his property and they were going
to pay on out his two milliondollars. So that deal I lost because
I thought it wasn't a very realdeal. I knew this guy told me
a lot of things when we wereyounger in London that didn't pan out good.
(35:55):
So I found like except that Itook me in nineteen ninety two.
To cut the story short, sowhen I came here, he had issues
with his wife, so they endedup advising me to leave the property.
So I actually technically almost became ahomeless person because I did have a lot
of money in my pocket and hehad give me a small project to give
(36:15):
me two thousand dollars. So thatmoney ran out because he had put me
in a motel there in Burbank. So in that process I startied navigating Los
Angeles a little bit towards rough. So I went to the Universal Studios and
I had an appointment there with oneof the managers and I told him,
(36:36):
look, I'm an artist from London. I would like to do some shows.
Then I actually I founched a lotof international hotels in Africa and one
in Scotland, and I told thisguy, look, I'd let's see if
I can get a project here. The guy was quier. He was like,
the hotel has been here for awhile. There is no way we
can give you any commissioner, anyproject. What I would advise you to
(37:00):
do is I'm going to show youspot you put one or two or three
pieces, but you have to behere every day, which was very trying
for me. I didn't have alot of money to go back and forth
where I was living in Burbank. So I waited for him in one of
the living I mean the reception rooms. He said, Amy, I've got
(37:20):
two major appointments. You have towait for me. I waited for thirty
minutes. Now, what O carsis that there was a book in front
of me. There a matter offact, I'm writing about his story,
my book Coming Book. So Ilooked at the book and what surprised me
that every page was quite a bigvolgume. Every page has words of compliment,
(37:43):
and these are words from celebrities whohave stayed there for years. So
I opened every page. Michael Jackson, Madonna, Asant John we may know
this international celebrities on the planet whostayed there. There there. So in
the middle of the book, Isee two business cards and one of them
(38:05):
said James Brown and one of themsaid Bonnie Swinnie, Hilton, James Brown,
West cost Incorporated. A matter offact, they had an office.
FLM. Sun said, Byane,it's still there, the building is still
there. They left me years ago. So I said to myself, wait
a minute, I've never seen anycard from a celebrity. Probably if there's
(38:27):
uh, this is what we callspiritual bearings. I haven't prayed. I
say, good Lord, is itbad for me to take this card?
We'll be fet give me this trial. The trials I'm going through in my
life. One of the side ofmy brain, says demmy no harm.
There are three actually three of them. One of them was just James Brown
and the phone number. I said, just take it, and I said,
(38:52):
what is there? The camera inhere and they see me take this
card. I've been in trouble, but I just took it. I took
in my pocket. Probably if thisis what we call the spiritually called God,
I doubt he would take me tohelp having made that move. So
I put the card in my pocket. And then the meeting was about the
(39:15):
car. The guy said, andgive me two minutes. So he comes
in when it's time. He doesn'tsay a word. I'm like, oh,
they've got me. Maybe they've gotcameras. They've noticed that I've taken
it. It wasn't like that,so Ermie, come on in. It
was very gregarious, very the meetingwas very contentious. We didn't stay a
(39:36):
lot of time there. So hesays, Annie, let me thank you.
Over there, he showed me thespace and then he said can you
put something here? He said, yeah, you've got to give me at
least a month. I need todo the app work and all that.
Because I'm from London, he understoodit. So he goes back to his
office. He didn't have breakfast. He gave me free breakfast that I had
(39:58):
my meal. Then when I finishedmy meal, I was still buzzing around
the hotel. I hear some kindof trackers, like a commotion, and
then I stood in front of thegroup that was approaching. I actually the
good thing that I had a verygood bridge suit European suits. I'm more
idiot and suit because of the weatherthere. So I stood and I walked.
(40:20):
I said, what is going on? And I could tell some of
these guys were black people. Twoof them were white, two Mexicans and
three of them were black. Andthere were well dressed in suits, but
they looked like bodyguards. I couldtell these guys must be guarding someone.
And then the closer they approached andnoticed in between, there's a short guy
(40:45):
coming little remember James Brownie. Yes, and it's all of our events.
He was, yeah, there was. So once I approached them, they
what bailed me out. They thinkthat I'm one of the management teams.
So that means the look like, okay, say brother, what I'm doing
here? Ty? I'm doing good? So you guys what I've been there?
(41:05):
Yeah, we're here with mister JamesBrown blah blah blah blah, and
I said, oh my god,I couldn't believe it, I said,
I told him the guy, butguy, can you believe my father used
to buy these guys records when Iwas a kid. Yeah, they're here,
and he approaches me. Can't youfirst me? What if we're doing
here? I said, Oh,mister James Brown, I wanner it could
be here. I never dreamed mylife. I've meant it, big,
(41:27):
got it, big delibrity like you, because I no worry about that.
What are you doing here? Teman artist? Blah blah blah. Tell
him no, have even done apainting of you? Could I have your
contact? The guy said that said, okay, we're gonna get you out
of here. We're gonna get theJames Brown out of here. So I
said, oh my god, Ileave this man. What do I do?
Son Is said, Emmy, youdon't have to do nothing. You
got his card in your buck inyour bucket, and that's what I call
(41:52):
human coincidences in life. So Iwent away. The first thing, I
didn't have a car. I couldn'teven have for to rent a cab because
I was saving my Monther giving themoney running down with the motel. I
was up to three hundred dollars.Quite a long story, and they got
a motel there They still there,Barbank Hotel. I don't worry, it's
(42:12):
there, Barbank ar the air.Uh we's Barban. Let's not make the
conversation too long, so I said, And you're up to three hundred dollars.
Your immigration status is expiring. Youneed to get out of here.
But start, I said to myself, Amie, don't need the hotel or
you need to do as for aphone. If they can help you to
make a phone called, they couldn't, They say, so you have to
(42:34):
be a guest here. So Ihave to walk all the way down.
Now, those are not the cellphone. That's not the cell phone error.
That's the era of land. Imean, when you have these boats
on the streets, you'llbiquitously. You'dgo anywhere and find a boat. You
have to put some time to lineup. So I went down the road
to Lancasham. I'd seen a boatthere and then there was a line.
(42:55):
I say, emmy, whatever youdo, do not get out of here.
Let them finish their calls and makethe call that's what changed my love
coming a little. I've told thispeople internationally everywhere. I've told people this
segment. If it wasn't that moment, I don't think probably be where I'm
at right now, because I wasready to go back to London and established
(43:19):
myself in London. Which it wasa very tough call. Bridge this kind
of difference, not the United Statesmaking it in making it in London even
a thing. If you can makeit in London, you can make it
anywhere on the planet. It's verytough. So I made the call.
I'm answering that it took me forlong to come to that. So I
made the call. Look at thecard and it has won on it,
(43:42):
Bunny swinging healthy. I made thecall and the message with their care it
says, this is mister James Brown. Madro sact. James Brown had been
jailed, so that week he wasreleased from jail. So when I made
the call, Bonnie says, thisis mister James Brown, West Coast Representative,
(44:07):
West Coast Coast Branch. We representmister. I don't know I used
to act, but now I canact anymore. They're taking me was listen
Nis when hears this mister James Brown, blah blah blah. By the way,
mister James Brown is out of outof incarceration, so he's gonna study
his word two or all that. And then she says, if you want
(44:30):
to leave your number name number, clearly will be more than glad to get
back to you. And this isthe most powerful line she leaves there.
She says, and remember, whatwe are is our gift from God.
What we become is our gift tohim. I wrote it down and I
(44:52):
leave my message now. Those daysthere was an english Man in London who
had taught me to disguise myself Camilita, an artist yourself. Most people look
down upon an artists. They thinkwe are serving artists, or even when
you're buying art, they give youlow prices because they think they're just helping
you out. So when I letthe message, I was not any loose
(45:14):
and that card I played for years. I'm John Spencer. That was a
code name from London, Vanish. When you helped me, miss John Spencer,
I'm more than honored. I'm relatedto hear your voice and I understand
you represent mister James Brown. Andby the way, I met mister James
(45:34):
Brown, it's you a few minutesago, and I would like to mention
that I've got an original work ofart that celebrates his life. I left
that message there. There was nopay me. There was nothing. And
I've made a lot of deals likethat when I'm making appear that I've got
blacks. Oh my god, let'ssee what you have. So one week
(45:57):
passed and then I was they ina gang infested area and then blended because
my residents had a motel expired. The guys who out my bags, he
said, so we cannot help youstay here anymore. In fact, I
was about start begging for money ona juc and uh, there's a there's
a kind of a grocery store there. That time it was Abbotson, but
(46:21):
they changed those stores bombed I thinkthere, So I was there, I
thought. I walked to the Abstonstore, almost trying to beg Then while
I'm walking there, I see fiveMexican guys who you were who used to
work for the British guy, AndI said, oh, I mean,
I mean, I said, Idon't know the family. They recognized me
on the street, so I said, okay, they missed up. They
(46:44):
had a rum shovel. Well, you know, they like this gardeners that
did up cars, but they dothe work. They said, any come
on, come on, come in. Where are you staying. I've been
staying here. I had my bags. I had a small bag with him
with my clothes. They said, and what happened to you? You're an
educated guy away on the street atit. They kicked me out of the
house. They threw me out here. Money's run out. I'm about to
(47:05):
get to call my airline to getback to London, and I don't go.
Don't go, don't go America tomix you. They're spoken there accent
like I do. So I jumpedinto the car. They took me to
a gun. I pasted there inGlendale. That's how getting no one now
once I'm I'm tried to make theconversation a little briefer. So when I
(47:27):
went to Glendale, they took mein a two bedroom house. Poor guys.
They said, Amigo, we havetwo bedrooms, but we're gonna sell
one room. You take the otherone. They even put a phone number
for me, a landline. Thereare two landline the amigo, we know
your situation. I told them Ihad a daughter, in London. They
wanted to take care of my baby. She was about I say, nine
(47:47):
years. The social services won't taketake I said, I can't let that
happen, so they housed me.Now while I'm there, I would walk
from Glendale to Hollywood. If allof you know how long that stretch is.
I walk from food, so thewisda. I walked on food.
I had at least two hundred dollarsremaining in my pocket, and I wanted
(48:10):
to say it that when I renewmy ticket, I can list at least
I have some money when I arrivedin London, so I would walk on
the street. I walked to abook store. It's still there. It
was celebrity book store. Away byphotographs signed by blah blah paparaeti or that
by celebrities, so by paparaty. So I walked in there as this guy,
I said, you have a JamesBrown photographs all now and against Brown
(48:34):
is no longer here. That wasthe movement of hip hop. It was
big time, the sampling his record. So he looked at a stackle photographs
at the bottom of it. Isee mister James Brown's photograph, and then
there was the next door library.I look for a book there and I
found a book about mister James Brown. I read the whole book the whole
evening. Now my challenge was toget a canvas. Now. Once I
(48:59):
get a canvas, I said,no, don't get a canvas. Wait
and tens if you get a callfrom James Brown's office. After getting this
book and the photograph within two days, I was actually about to split.
I retrieved my voice mail that sameday Sambada called and I remember this moment
(49:27):
through the well. Every day inLos Angeles, whenever that memory is invailable
is mixorable. I remember even nowin the morning, I thought about read
a minute because of that moment. So the message says, this is Bonny
is WHENY help me. We arelooking for mister Jones painter. He left
(49:49):
the message that he presents Emmy luin London famous arty. That was all
made London famous office. Blah blahblah. Could we set up an appointments
with Ms against John and say we'reblack. I talked to mister James Brown.
He'd like us to look at thepainting. And you community, you're
an artist yourself. If you havea challenge like that, you can do
(50:10):
a piast that other group of sixmonths, you can do it in two
days. I called a friend ofmine to loan me one hundred dollars.
It's a long start. I gotone hundred dollars. I walked to Hollywood.
We went to Aaron Brothers. Theywere already called before last year from
They had a lot of material there. I bought the canvas, were aided
by sixty and I did that paintingone whole night. I didn't sleep.
(50:34):
I remember that there the monday.I finished a painting in the following morning
and I made the call back becauseI didn't want to call the office before
anything tangible. So body was there? Oh, yes, sir, are
we glad to take with you?Blad again? Bron really wants to talk
to you. Then I said, okay, I've got a painting here by
any luke Emy, I said,Emmy Louis in London is a practicing is
(51:00):
there, but we'll present him here. So okay, any let's got the
good chase. We're about to starttraveling with the Minster James Brown Internagement.
When can we look at the work. We made the appointment smarily there.
I said, okay, make sureyou're here on that was a Monday.
She says, make sure you actuallyknow Wednesday. Make sure John Spencer,
(51:22):
you're here on Wednesday at eleven exactlyeleven o'clock. Now I beg my friend
will over me one hundred dollars togo and take a photograph of this painting.
We large the photograph a light prinkand we framed it very nicely because
the canvas was forty eight by sixdy camulator prob. You're familiar with that
(51:45):
side. It's a large, largecanvas. Now we call for the appointment,
and she was clear, guys,I know you're ques. You knew
I was black guy. You're blackpeople. But we have a problem whenever
we do appointments with black people,we call I didn't even know that at
that time because I was from London. This slang he is different from London.
(52:05):
So here you have CPT type colorpeople. She says, you're not
going to play that with mister JamesBrown. If you're not here by eleven
o'clock, the appointment is canceled andit's going to be very difficult to get
back to you. Guys, wewere there ten o'clock. It's there of
eleven to make sure that we SpartleAnd when we arrived with that covered print,
(52:28):
we went to their conference room andthen this guy is given for that
I've gotten in his name. Ithink it was shrank something there the piece.
He called Vannie to look at thewall, so if she doesn't know
how, we're gonna veil the painting. So we unveil the work of art.
(52:50):
Vonnie fell on that chair. Youremember she was kind of heavy,
heavy science coming leader, right, yeah, yeah, And then I was
going to work to top with something. Oh my god, I did that
painting. I did that painting. It's not online, but I'm gonna post
it for the audience to see casethey want to check I'm going to do
(53:15):
today. Brown. You know you'reright in the middle at the highlight of
the story, but we were actuallygone over time. I just want to
say one thing, Uh, youknow, I'm glad that you did get
that opportunity, uh to do that. And I had no idea the background
(53:37):
behind it, because actually I wasgoing to do a portrait of James Brown
and Donnie even had me talk tohim and he said, I want you
to put the Apollo Theater in it. I was getting ready to do the
portrait, and I don't know howI came up about the same time as
yours. I didn't even know youwere in the picture. I don't even
think I knew you then, Butanyway, yeah, but anyway, I'm
(54:01):
glad that it all worked out andthat you have achieved the status that you
have now and even have your ownart gallery in Beverly Hills, and you
just have this most amazing exhibit atthe Beverly Hilton Hotel. And you told
me that, you know some ofthe guests that were there, they were
(54:21):
very prominent, such as Beyonce's mom, you know, she Tina Knowles was
there, and many others. AndI could go on collect right, And
I don't know if Debbie Joyce islistening. I told her to tune in,
and I know that, you know, first Lady of Motown, she's
(54:45):
at the dentist's office right now,but she'll probably try to catch the rerun.
And many others, you know,if they house or I had invited
a lot of those people that didcome, Beverly Todd and so many others,
and so it was a wonderful oneto live it. Tell them real
quick about the new events you havecoming up July twentieth. For July twentieth,
(55:08):
we'll do a yearly celebration of ourart, music, jazz wine.
So I'm doing a big party atthe gallery and it's free of charge.
I never charge people to come tomy gallery Little Hill. So it's July
twentieth. It starts at seven pointthirty. And those people of her this,
they're free, child free to comearound and look at art, socialize.
(55:30):
My galleries made millionaires. People don'teven believe that people have become millionaires
through my gallery. People have becomecelebrities from my gallery. Because what this
gallery does it invites the last bigcelebrity that is at Tarila Belle Freedom pain
and Alia was supposed to be Aliciakidd Or. She had a prayer engagement.
(55:51):
So when people come to these kindof events, they socialize. And
I'm honored today the speak with thiselegant woman commulator. She's support in my
gallery a problem and Fatherma Blade,I don't think words can express the gratitude.
IM better to my appreciation. Upto now, Camelita supported my gallery
(56:14):
numerous ways. She's an accomplished artist. She's heard a lot of people.
I remember, I'm leaving you withthis Camelita. One time we're doing the
programming. That time was kind ofthe semi executive with Vanish swinging. I
ran a lot of our bustling stuff. We ran out of money because some
fools had already stolen a lot ofmoney from our pocket. So Kamelita came
(56:36):
through. She jumped in. Kamlitawas in tears. I remember she was
going to go. I saw Camelitacall me, Emmy, not why I
have to figure this out. Shedidn't tell me what she's going to figure
out. Bottom line, Camelita puttingmore than ten thousand dollars in that event
that was held on at Roosevelt Hotel. I think that was nineteen ninety six.
(57:00):
That's James during that event. Iremember, well, actually that was
a different that was a different one. You're the one, you know.
Yeah, I'm not sorry. You'reright. It was the it was yeah,
you're right, it was Broosevelt Hotel. Okay, well listen hearing.
