The Day of the Lord Dear friends, this is now my second letter to you. I have written both of them as reminders to stimulate you to wholesome thinking. I want you to recall the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets and the command given by our Lord and Savior through your apostles. Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water. By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly. But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.[a] 11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives 12 as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.[b] That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. 13 But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
Dear friends, this is now the second letter to you.
I have written both of them as reminders to stimulate
you to wholesome thinking. I want you to recall the
words spoken in the past by holy prophets and the
command given by our Lord and Savior through your apostles.

(01:00):
You must understand that all the days sculfers will come sculfing,
and following their evil desires. They will say, where is
the coming he promised? Ever since ancestors died, everything going,

(01:26):
Everything goes on as it is since the beginning of creation.
But they deliberately forget that long ago, by God's word,
the heavens came into being, and the earth was formed

(01:50):
out of water, and by water these waters also the
world of that time was deluged and destroyed by the
same word. And the presence heavens and earth are reserved

(02:13):
for fire, being kept for a day of judgment and
the destruction of the ungodly. But do not forget this
one thing, dear friends. With the Lord, a day is

(02:37):
a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.
The Lord is not shown in keeping his The Lord
is not slow in keeping his promise. As some understand
slowness instead, he is patient with you and wanting everyone

(03:03):
to anyone to perish, but everything to come to repentance.
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief.
The heavens will disappear with a roar, The elements will
be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done

(03:29):
it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed
in this way, what kind of person ought to be?
You ought to be? You ought to live holy and
godly lives as you look forward to the Day of

(03:55):
God and speed it's coming. The day will bring about
the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements
will melt in the heat. But in keeping with his promise,

(04:15):
we are looking forward to a new heaven and new
Earth where righteousness dwells. There's an interesting reading for the
beginning of our giving season. Yes, we have once around,

(04:40):
come around, back towards Christmas time, and all of the
hustle and the bustle that goes along with it. Who
do I buy this present for? Who's going to give
me this? Who should I give this to so that
they will in return give me something even better? A
friend of mine the other day said Christmas is great

(05:03):
for ROI you give a little bit and you get
a whole lot back. Well, giving in general is that
way if you truly give from the heart. In another conversation,
I was talking with another friend over lunch and he

(05:31):
is a very, very, very giving person, and I would
say a very godly person. He does believe in giving
to the church, and because he believes that that church
gives back to the community in huge ways, and in
some ways it does that the church he belongs to

(05:59):
has given a way tons of food through different ways
of fundraising and gathering to different organizations around the world
simply because they can. But simply because they can doesn't

(06:19):
explain the spirit of giving that that goes along with it.
That spirit of giving is they don't expect a return
in this life. They expect that return to come through

(06:40):
changing how they see things from greed to what they
can get in return monetarily in this life, but how
it can help their spirit grow so that they grow
closer to God. That's something we need to seriously talk about.

(07:04):
We and it's and it is discussed in here. It's
like it's like magic, it just appeared. You ought to
live holy and godly lives, holy and godly lives doesn't
mean supporting a government that withholds food from its own citizens,

(07:30):
that it doesn't withhold medical benefits from its own citizens.
It doesn't try to chase off people who it doesn't
find desirable in their own country. It doesn't mean supporting
those sort of things, although there are those people who
do think that that's what it should mean. That godly

(07:53):
means that there's the that there's these rules are handed
down by a human being, and that human being must
know because he has lots of money, well, God must
have blessed him because he's a billionaire. We'll get back

(08:17):
to that another time. But holy in godly lives means
giving because you can giving without the intention of receiving back.
Giving because you see that your fellow human being needs

(08:40):
and you have extra to give, or you have the
ability to help them find it themselves. That's what that means.
It means not discarding the least of our brothers because

(09:01):
they don't look desirable to us and they did it
to themselves. It means helping the least of our brothers
because they represent God himself, they are who truly need
our help. Giving to them, Helping them is definitely what

(09:26):
we're supposed to do. But that's only doing what we're
supposed to do, because there are out of our brothers
and sisters out there who would Yeah, I'll give it

(09:47):
to them. I will look down my nose and I
will scoff at them, and it mentions the scoffers. Oh
wait a second, it does, doesn't it. It mentions the
scoffers in here also that I will scoff the people
scoffing down as a givet Oh, well, here have some crumbs,

(10:11):
because that's all your worth. Living a holy and godly
life means giving in equal proportion so that that person
now feels your compassion and your love for them, Because
when you share the love from your heart, you are

(10:32):
sharing God's love with them, and in return, you receive
God's love. You See, this is how it works. That
you don't give just because you're supposed to give. You
give because you want to truly help someone feel wonderful
about themselves. How about that? How about giving of your

(10:59):
heart to the point that the person receiving feels that
they are a worthy human being. How about that helping
someone out of the mud, washing them off, cleaning them

(11:23):
up so that they begin to feel good about being
who they are. We can do that, and that's what
we're supposed to do. That's just the beginning. That is

(11:46):
just the beginning of what God wants from us. There
is so much more that happens. There is so much
joy that happens when you choose every day to turn
your mind, your soul, your body towards service of God. Now.

(12:12):
I understand that many of us out there, Hey, we
got rent to pay, we got car payments, we have
credit card payments, we have all sorts of things that
we have to do so that we maintained our happiness
of life. I understand that. But this goes above and
beyond that. That's just your basics. What are you going

(12:37):
to do that will take that cake? That cake of
here's my basic life, and what are you going to
add on to it? For the icing? Following the path
of God's love will mean that you always have a
buncket of icing to smear over the rest of the
cake because you are living a holy and godly life.

(13:05):
That abundance will always walk with you. That abundance is God.
He will always walk with you. You just have to
choose to let him. God is always with you. You
just have to choose to listen as we walk there,

(13:33):
and we see the beauty around us because we have
chosen to allow God into our lives so deeply that
we see the beautiful and everything that is around us.
We see the lesson to be learned, and we find
the information that God wants us to have in profound

(13:59):
and beautiful ways. Yes, it doesn't mean that trials won't happen.
They will, but how you get through the trial is
the total answer of having got faith in God. So

(14:26):
when we wake up in the morning, let us pray. Lord,
allow me to hold your hand throughout the day. Allow
me to listen to your word as you speak it
to me. Allow me to be compassionate to all those

(14:48):
around me, including the least of my brothers. Allow me
the ability to help the least of my brothers rise
to the same as me. Allow me to help them
find their passion and their joy that you have for them. Lord,

(15:15):
help me to be the person in the conduit of
love that you want me to be. Amen.
