Fantasy Baseball Podcast: Prospect-a-palooza

Grey and B_Don are here to talk about the bevy of prospect call ups made over the last few days. We discuss which prospects are worth spending FAAB on, how much, and what kind of leagues we'd be looking at grabbing or stashing some of the young talent in the game. We go over players like: Royce Lewis, Juan Yepez, Jose Miranda, George Kirby, and some others.

We also discuss a couple of guys that have shown the ability to be top producers at their position as we cover Christian Yelich and Shane Bieber, and what our projections may look like rest of season. We wrap up with some future prospect names to watch, or maybe add, and some waiver wire names that may help you out.

anything but a home run aloud,please please, oh my god.
It was like that was the curefor the dead ball. It was like,

hundred and three miles per hour apparently. Oh man. I was like before
that, I was like, youknow, singing Lizze like it's bad bitch
o'clock and it's thick thirty. Andthen all of a sudden, a hundred
Green started pitching. I was like, oh, oh, oh that hurts.

that my fantasy teams don't have hundredGreen are actually doing okay. Other than

might happen. He's just the homeruns. I mean, if you took

away every home run he's allowed,he not. His lines actually might be
okay, but he's just yeah,I mean everything he's throwing up there is
getting hit out of the park.It sucks. Yeah. Actually that's uh,
that's a good point. I waslike, you know, I was,
I think I wrote in the writeup on the site or I said
it somewhere or I don't know,but his like his cap per nine is

at the x F oh baby,oh man, he's doing so well,

you know, it's kind of like, I mean, I feel like baseballs.
Rob Manfred is like um U jIger Hoover plotting JFK's assassination. Allow
me to explain, So it's likebefore JFK got killed by the FBI and
Albert Stone lost his ship and madethe JFK Kevin Costner movie, before all

that happened, like, you know, no one believed in conspiracies. But
once JFK got assassinated, and thenit was like, oh, oh,
anything's possible. The government's capable ofdoing anything, so you lose all trust.
And then it's like the same thingnow with Major League Baseball, where
you have like, you know,the baseballs for like a hundred years,

everyone's like, yeah, baseball isa baseball. What there's nothing, there's
nothing wrong with the baseball. Imean, baseball is a baseball, right,
and then you have suddenly Rob Manfred'slike, let's tinker. And now
you have a situation where it's like, one, home runs are up insane
and Rob Manfred's like, h mightwant to scale back on that one I

want to scale back a little biton that baseball that's just bouncing out of
the stadium on like opposite field,like home runs like nothing. Like suddenly
labor Tours is a forty homer hitter. Okay, yeah, maybe not.
Maybe we just want to scale back. And now it's like he scale back
so far that you're like, oh, man, now nothing. Now no

one can hit a home run.Now. Giancarlo has like expected batting average
of like eight hundred, and hecan't hit a home run. Damn.
He had a hundred and seventeen milesper hour EGXIT velocity and it's a flyball.
It's a shallow right, that's weird. So now it's like suddenly,
now everyone is like you see agame where like a couple homers are hit,

like in the Brewers game against likeHunter Green, and it's like,
huh did they mix up the baseball? Like now suddenly nothing's real and it's
like everyone's just looking like no one'slooking at the players anymore, and now
you're just looking at the baseballs,which is, you know, m not
great. It's not a great situation. I feel like I feel like pitchers

are gonna have to hurry up andpitch faster because the the human door effect
loses. You know, it's goneonce the ball sits in the umpire's satchel
for half an inning, and soyou gotta you gotta move quick out there
on the mound and get going.Yeah, yeah, that's true. I
wonder you know what, no one'sever talked about that, like does it
matter how long this is? Also, see there's another thing like but the

human doors, because it's like lastyear, it's like, oh yeah,
oh, by the way, thatpark has a huba door, Like what

like now every stadium has got ahuman door, but there's no like

amount of humidity. Like it's like, what's going on with the doors?
Are they just like all over themap? It's like, oh yeah,
in this stadium, it's like thehuman door makes it a bouncy ball,

you brought up an interesting thing thatI never even thought of that I don't

even know if this is a realthing, because honestly, not a scientist.
A lot of this and they're like, you know what, I think
Gray's a scientist. Well, I'msorry, Unfortunately I'm not a scientist.
But listen, though, Like howlong is a baseball out of the humor
door before it loses its humidis?Is that a thing that seriously is there

like a certain amount of time?Like if you're like, if the baseball
sitting in like the umpire's pouch fora long time, I don't give it.
This might be the thing, youknow why. I actually think there
is probably something to that. Towhat degree it matters in a half an
inning, I'm I'm not sure,but maybe there's something to him about as

the game goes on. But Idon't know because they placed the baseballs each
like any or a half inny andso I we'll just move on. First
thing we're gonna talk about, speakingof, I think Christian Yelloch gets those
twenty nineteen baseballs because the last twoweeks he's hitting three or six, three
home runs, one stone base,thirteen runs, nine RBIs. He's got

that launch angle up to nine onthe season, so he's finally above that
zero point five mark he set upfor a while, we're looking at the
resurgence of Christian Yelloch or is thiskind of a blip and and maybe this
is the time to go ahead andget rid of him. Yeah, I
mean I was actually in the firstcouple of weeks of the season, I

(09:46):
was really sort of I was worriedabout him a lot with his launch angle.
But you're right, I mean,in the last couple of weeks his
launch angle has come up a lot. So it's like, as of the
tape of this it's around nine,which would be his high since twenty nineteen,
which you know, I mean,I guess it's hard. It's hard
to account for twenty nineteen. Aswe were just saying, you know,

(10:07):
there was so much nonsense going outwith the baseballs. But you know,
if he's gonna hit fly balls,which he Christian Yellows hits the ball hard
like there was never an issue withlike how hard he was making contact like
that was always fine. It wasalways a matter of him hitting the ball
directly into the dirt, which waswhich is not good obviously, So the

fact that he's hitting more five ballsnow than he's hit since twenty nineteen,
his five ball rate is up tothirty four percent. In twenty nineteen it
was at thirty five point nine percent, So it's real, it's it's pretty
good, you know. And lastyear it was at twenty three point seven
percent to give people an idea.So obviously he's hitting the ball more in

the air and he's hitting the ballhard. With that combination, I'm kind
of interested again, Like I was. I was definitely concerned, like in
those first two weeks. But Imean, like I said, like I
always said with him, you know, the good thing with Christian Yelloch's he
was always gonna be in the middleof the order and he was gonna hit

(11:15):
the ball hard, so you know, he was gonna get counting stats to
a certain degree. He didn't strikeout a lot like there was never like
you know, with like you know, in the early in the preseason,
we were comparing him to Cody Bellinger, and there was always with Cody Bellinger
was always the issue with like ishe gonna strike out as a lot?
Is he gonna hit for a badaverage? Is he gonna hit the bottom
of the order? Like there wasissues with Cody Bellinger that never were there

(11:39):
with really yellows Like Yellich was alwaysgonna hit the ball hard. He was
gonna hit the ball, he wasn'tgonna strike out a ton, and he
was also going to be in themiddle of the order. So there's gonna
be some definite positives with Yelloch.And now if he's hitting the ball in
the air, I'm kind of interestedagain. I mean I was, like,
I was probably a little too hastyto get out on him early because

I did, like, I waspretty worried when his launch angle was like
really crazy low in the first twoweeks. But yeah, it looks he
looks better. I mean he does. He legitimately looks good. Yeah he
does. Um, I was definitelyoff the Yelloch. I own zero shares.
I think at one point on thispodcast I may have even discussed the

potential of like trading him for absolutelyanything. So, you know, my
bad on Yelloch. He does looka lot better. I guess the question
is now, Gray, now thathe's hitting better, are you willing to
potentially buy high on him in thehopes that he becomes kind of you know,
the old Christian Yelloch, which isthirty plus home runs. Um,

(12:48):
he's not gonna. I don't thinkhe's gonna get us twenty five thirty stolen
bases anymore. I think that's outthe window of the speed's definitely down since
that time in his in his career. But ten stone basis, twelve stolen
basis somewhere in that range. Doyou think that's yeah? No, I
think yeah no, I think twelvesteel. I think twelve steals is doable.
I think he's probably I would probablyput his homers around twenty five homers

twenty five twelve two seventy. That'snot bad. I mean that, you
know. I mean I think peoplecan sort of get a a good feel
for what that would be h for, like trade value wise, you know,
he's not I don't you know.I would say probably like top sixty

(13:37):
to seventy overall, Like I don'tthink he's Like, I don't think he's
a top twenty five player again,like I don't think he's there, maybe
top fifty. So, like youknow, I would say roughly in the
maybe a lower number one outfielder range. Not like he's still got issues,

(14:01):
Like he's not Like I said,like twenty five homers, isn't you know
that's not a number one. That'snot like a strong number one outfield or
like um, you know, Icould see him or like him or George
Springer, I guess is a tossup for me where Springer I worry about
his batting average and potentially injury concerns. Uh and yellows. I worry that

(14:24):
his launch angle will revert back towhat it was previously, so you know,
he becomes a groundball machine again.So you know, right now,
So there's some issues, there's somerisks there. But yeah, I mean,
I don't you know, honestly,I don't hate Yellowish as much as
I did two weeks ago. Ihave I don't have him in any leagues.

(14:46):
I have no um you know,I have no personal steak and yells,
I don't. I don't really careeither way. I'm just saying,
you know, from a an outsideperspective looking in, he looks better he
does. I would. I wouldbe interested if someone were to come to
me with a trade offer. Allright, sounds good, And I think
what you projected gives people an ideaof kind of where we're looking at in

(15:09):
regards to value for trades. Idon't think either of us is expecting vintage,
you know, number one, numbertwo, number three pick type of
Christian yell. It's but like yousaid, he could potentially be in that
outfielder one outfielder two discussion and kindof maintained that role for you. You're

(15:30):
right. I mean, the hittool never went away. I was just
he was just beating everything in theground and with the shift, it just
wasn't he just couldn't really do anything. So launch angle definitely and improved before
him. This week is a prospectto palooza. We got a ton of
prospects coming up or have already comeup within the last few days. But
between the last time we talked.Let's start at the top here. Royce

(15:54):
Lewis so far hitting seven through nineso far in Triple A this year,
over one hundred and seven played appearas he's sitting three, ten, four,
thirty five or sixty three. He'sgot three home runs, eight stone
bases and eighteen point seven percent krate a sixteen percent walk rate. How
much sire are you in Royce Lewishere? Who's coming in for Coast Gray,

(16:15):
who's got the finger injury. Yeah, well, I mean I was
really interested in Krey. I meanexcuse me and Lewis when I heard Karia's
finger was broken. Now that Ihear Kreia's finger is just bruised, kind
of less interested. I'm not.I'm not really. I didn't. I
didn't get Royce Lewis in any hmaybe I got him in a maybe I

(16:37):
got him in a redraft where Ijust picked him up off of waivers.
But you know, once I heardKarreya's finger wasn't broken, I think I
actually even drafted. I even droppedRoyce Lewis in the one league I picked
him up. I don't know itwas. It was our our CL twelve
team mixed league, so it's notreally a deep league. Um yeah,
I mean I would definitely grab haveRoyce Lewis, like he's sort in a

situation where, I mean, bythe time where people listen to this podcast,
Kraia could already be back, youknow, like when Craiz finger was
fractured. Supposedly then it was like, oh, you know, Royce Lewis
could have six weeks a time upin the majors to you know, show
something, and that could then youknow, and then if he showed something

(17:23):
good, that could parlay into himremaining up as like you know, in
a different position in the lineup.Maybe who knows, I mean, anything
could have happened if Royce Lewis wouldhave hit when he was after he was
called up, but now that hemay not even get a week's worth of

(17:44):
at bats, And yeah, it'slike yeah, I mean I'm interested in
long term because he's got great powerand great speed, but yeah, I'm
not super interested for re draft leaksright now, like in um, you
know, give people an idea.In my fab leagues, I didn't even
bid on Royce Lewis. I didn't. I didn't. I or maybe I
put in like a like a fiveor ten dollar out of a thousand,

(18:08):
that is, you know, soa very minimal bid. I think I
put him for a roy Sleis.I don't know what about you, but
I put I think I put aboutthree thirty three dollars or so around on
him in both TGFBI and the Wharfthe draft. So I believe I actually

(18:29):
got him in both of those forthat, you know, what's your an
amount to three dollars in a onehundred dollars budget league, So I mean
I spent a few bucks on him. But this is more speculative for me.
Just that's a thousand, a thousand. I was just relating it down.
So you know, if it wasone hundred dollars, it would be
a three dollars bid. Oh soI spent like thirty dollars and a thousand
dollars. So yeah, you know, I actually sorry, nothing's rough,

(18:52):
but I actually um and the peoplewho got him, Like today I was,
I had a little bit of regretthat I didn't put like because twenty
three thirty three, those kind ofbids are kind of they're they're like they're
irrelevant in a thousand dollars league thousanddollar fab Like it's like you said,
it's like a three dollar bid,so it's like nothing. So I kind

of regret not going after him forone of those type of bids because if
we find, like, you know, things all the time happened where like
Kreia could come back and reinjure himselfor like or they could be like,
actually his finger is fractured and thenand then you look brilliant for getting Royce

Lewis for only thirty three dollars.So I do kind of regret not putting
it because you know, things couldhappen where thirty three dollars and out of
a thousand is like nothing. Soyeah, anyway, go ahead, what
you're saying, I was just sayingthat it like you said, it's a
speculative pick up. So if hegets to stick in the lineup, if
something happens with Karrea, or ifthey stick him, if Kari goes to

DH for a little while, justbecause they don't want him making that throw
with a insured middle finger, whichis obviously very important on a on a
throw from shortstop, Royce Lewis couldget some extended looks. And if he
does hit well, let's not likethe Twins have a ton of bats that
needed to be crammed into this lineup, so I think he could. He
could definitely stay up for some periodof time here. Next up is Jose

(20:25):
Miranda. He was hitting sixth ingeneral, but he was hitting second yesterday
on Sunday. We're recording this Mondaynoon, My time morning for Gray.
So far in Triple A this year, in ninety five plate appearances, he's
hitting two fifty six two ninety five, four forty two with two home runs.

(20:45):
Not an amazing line, but youhave to remember last year between double
and triple A, he hit thirtyhome runs, four stone bases, three
forty four, four h one fiveseventy two. So this guy that has
serious, serious power. I meanhis hit to all last year looked great.
Hasn't quite carried over this year yet. But I think a guy that

(21:07):
you have to take a chance onif he's out there, What do you
think, Gray, Yeah, No, I agree, I think. Uh,
you know, I was saw hishomer on I believe it was Saturday.
I mean, he hit a bomb, he really like. I mean,
he really impressed me with how muchpower he had. I was I
wasn't sure if he had that kindof power. I mean he hit it
into the upper deck in Uh.I believe it was left center. It

was a it was a hit.I mean it was really it was a
far homer. It was I thinkit was four twenty five feet. I
think, um yeah, I meanI would say, you know, he's
like, you know, I thinkI compared him to another twin. The
twins have good contact guys. Uhand Miranda reminded me a little bit of

like Luis Arise, except with power. So, like Murray, a good
hit for a great average. Hedoesn't have any real speed, so I
mean I was I think I alsocompared Miranda to Tay France, so like
that could that sort of like headtool where he could hit, Like Miranda
could hit two eighty plus with power, um, no speed and you know,

decent counting stats. He's actually becauseMiguel SnO Went had an injury that
he needed surgery. Um, yeah, knee, he needed knee surgery.
So uh, you know, Ithink Snow's gonna be out for a while,
so Miranda's gonna have plenty of time. I'm I picked up Miranda everywhere

(22:40):
that I could, like, Ithink, actually, I think I do
still have Miranda in our RCL league. Um and I picked him up in
Yahoo Friends and Family, which isa fifteen team mix league. So I
picked him up in twelve team mixleague, fifteen team mix league. I'm
in on Miranda everywhere. Miranda couldpotentially be like one of the call ups

(23:06):
of the year if he continues tohit. And uh, like you said,
the Twins don't really have that much, So Miranda could hit at the
top of the order. He couldhit for power, he could hit for
average. He's definitely a guy thatyou know, other than speed. There's
really not a whole lot missing fromhis profile. So yeah, I like
him a lot. Yeah, I'mwith you. He went for more than

I was expecting in TDFBI and myother NFBC league. I think he went
for like three hundred in my inmy td FBI, which is more than
I had to spend on him.So yeah, but a great prospect for
Reference. Itch had him at fifteenin his preseason prospect ranking, So we

are talking about a you know,borderline elite type of guy here. George
Kirby got his first start on Sunday, looked great. Six innings, four
hits, seven k's, no walks, no earned in twenty four innings in
Triple A this year, he hada one eight two r a zero point
eight nine whip in five starts,in thirty two k's over those twenty four

(24:17):
and two thirds innings, thirty fourand a half k rate, five five
and a half percent walk rate orsorry, it was double A. So
I mean he was killing it inthe minors. He absolutely looked great in
his first start. Gray. Imean, if Miranda's the bat to be
all in on this week, Kirby'sthat aren't to be all in all right,

(24:37):
Yeah, no completely, you know, I think Kirby because like Kirby
has the great thing that you know, we always go back to with,
uh, you know, command,like if you're if a rookie has good
commands, then unless you know,something completely derails him, like, there's
no reason to think he's gonna haveyou know, a really like terrible starts

like the Hunter Greens of the world. You know, like there's like a
solid base, a good floor withGeorge Kirby where like he should be safe
ish. You know, no rookiepitchers are completely safe, but he should
be safeish and he's also got goodupside because like you know, I mean

he was. Yeah, I watchedhis whole start. I mean he looked
fantastic. He looked like, youknow, absolute like you know ace material,
you know, high ninety fastball,uh get it, like really hard
slider. It was just everything wasworking. I mean, you know,

it wasn't. The Rays are afairly decent team for on base percentage and
batting average, and they weren't reallyable to do anything with like you know,
like they weren't they didn't really workcounts or anything. Like he was
always around the plate. He lookedreally great. I mean, honestly,

he looked like the best rookie pitcherI think that I've seen this year.
Um, you know, I guessmy Joe Ryan I think is a rookie
technically, even though he pitched lastyear. So maybe so maybe Joe Ryan's
in that boat. But yeah,I think I think he was like I
think George Kirby. He wasn't availablein um NFBC fab this week because he

(26:36):
didn't pitch until Sunday, So rookieswho are just called up aren't in there
until they actually appear in a game. So he was, so he'll be
next week. I have a feelinghe's gonna probably go for a lot next
week, especially if he comes backthis week and has another gem, like
he could go for a couple hundreddollars out of a thousand. I wouldn't

(26:59):
be surprised if he goes upwards tolike, you know, over two hundred
and fifty dollars if he if hepitches well again this week, Yeah,
he's going to be an expensive armnext week if he puts up another outing
similar to the one we just saw. So get those checkbooks ready in your
NFBC or any FABI league. JuanYapez is the next one on our list

here. He's slotting in in thefive spots. So far for out,
he's hitting two seventy nine three twentythree six fifty one nine home runs in
ninety three appearances in Triple A.I mean, it feels like Juan Yapez
has a chance here to to kindof take a place in and the Cardinals

light up permanently, and I meanthey're sticking him at five right off the
bat, so they're not concerned withhim. Yeah, I know, I
wish someone would tell them about No. One Gorman. I was like,
yeah, man, No One Gormanand he's gonna be great. And then
they bring up one your Pez andI'm like, oh, okay, yeah,

I wish I would have got oneyour Pez then instead of Nolan Gorman.
Uh. I you know, Isaw, you know, for a
while they had Dickerson and m deJong as like the DHU the Cardinals that
is, they had Dickerson, CoreyDickerson and Paul DeJong as a DH platoon.

And you know, I said,I think I said like about two
weeks ago that Nolan Gorman was gonnaget called up and become the DH and
make those two guys obsolete. Um, you know, Sos ended up getting
injured, so Dejean went a shortbut Dickerson ended up getting benched for your
Pez versus Gorman. And now withI think if I mean, if I

were the Cardinals, Um, youknow again spoiler alert, I'm not the
Cardinals, but if I were,I would just go with Upez as long
as he's hitting at the age likethere's no reason to now, um,
you know, go back to Dickersonor Djong even when Socia returns. I
would keep your Pez in the lineupas long as he's hitting, and so

far he has been. I youknow, his profile is like he's got
a power like despair for sure,he's got a you know in um in
a triple a. Uh as yousaid, he hit like, you know,
crazy amount of power with nine homersin twenty two games. I mean

he's already hit one homer in fivegames with the Cardinals. I mean he
could he could be he could goon and become Rookie of the Year potentially
in the NL. I mean itcould happen. He could he could be
hot for the next five months,especially if say a Suzuki never gets another
hit. Uh yeah, I youknow, your Paz is definitely a guy.

I didn't. I didn't spend bigon him, but a lot of
people did. In fad this week, I uh, you know, he
was he was bought in my leaguesfor I think, uh, you know,
upwards to um two hundred dollars outof a thousand, at least one
hundred and twenty uh in other leagues. Um, and I think in my

NL only leagues he was already uh, he was already rostered and most of
them. Actually I think I actuallyI got him in my uh my home
league, but that's uh, youknow, that's a keeper league. So
I got him for a dollar.I don't I got him before before he
was called up. I believe Igot him. I don't know, maybe
I got him the day he wascalled up. Anyway, Uh yeah,

I think you know he's he's gotgreat contact, good plate discipline. Um,
he doesn't he doesn't really take aton of walks, but enough.
Yeah, I mean he could reallybe great. I have no thing,
like, I don't have any negativesto say on him, Like he's sort
of he reminds me a little bitof Jose Miranda uh in the NL.
