Welcome back.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
It is the Raspball Fantasy Baseball Podcast. I am beat on,
joined by the One the Only Great.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
All right, how's it going over there? Great? Hey man?
Speaker 2 (01:18):
What's going on? Just a looking forward to.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
Game seven?
Speaker 2 (01:25):
Know what I'm saying? What's going on for people not
watching on YouTube? I'm wearing my Indiana Pacers but this
is Indiana shirt that like Kugs got me when she
went to the finals game last week that I was.
I walked around today, uh, all day wearing the Pacers shirt,
(01:48):
and I found amusement no matter how many times someone said,
like to me, like man, sorry about the Pacers game.
Last night, I'd be like, no, whoa whoa wa, it's
on TVR. Don't say anything. No matter how many times
it's still it's still amused me. People would be like, man,
(02:11):
if it wasn't for that Halliburn injury, I'd be like,
what injury?
Speaker 3 (02:14):
I haven't watched yet.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
I enjoyed that.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
Yeah, I'm sure you did, Gray. It must be nice
not to care about other sports. Uh, you know, I
didn't even really care who won or lost. But that, Uh,
that wasn't the way I wanted to have wanted it
to happen. But yeah, and more positive news, Gray, and
somewhat related, I went from fifth to first in our
(02:42):
CBS and our only auction league because Ronald Cuny Junior
is really good at baseball.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
Yeah, I know it was Actually I usually don't look
at my weekly stats for my NFBC teams, like I
just don't look. I mean, I have I have enough,
I have enough things to worry about that I just
don't look at it.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
But I happened to.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
I was looking to see if I should start h
I forget who it was. I think it was like
I was looking to see if I just start Ryan
O'Hearn or something someone like that, and I was looking
to see what guys did last week, and his stats
are ridiculous, man, I mean they're just ridiculous. I think
he had he had I want to say, he had
(03:29):
eleven runs last week and uh, he hit like over
four hundred. I was like, I mean, it's just absurd that, Like,
you know, I saw that eleven runs and I was like, huh,
what is that over over the course of the season,
what is that pro rate out to like three hundred
(03:50):
runs or something.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
I mean, he's so crazy.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
He's just I mean, it's just amazing how much he
can transform a fantasy team that Like, I mean, we
were all in on Akunya in March, as anyone who
listened to us in March I could tell.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
You we were.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
We were the high men on him. And I really,
I mean, outside of the Steels have been lacking a
little bit, I do feel like he's sort of like
he's done everything we could have possibly hoped for and
more right, I mean, he's still like if you have
a guy who is basically averaging two homers a week
(04:33):
with ten runs some RBIs and hitting four hundred, I
mean even without the steels. That's still a top twelve player.
I mean, you know, it's like, where did you draft
Vlad Junior this year? I mean, it's not like Akunya
is doing worse than that, right, I mean, I yeah,
(04:56):
I don't really, I don't know, man. I just feel
like people don't really appreciate Ronald Dacunya Junior. And they
actually do appreciate him, they just don't appreciate him enough.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
You know.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
It's like they appreciate him, but they but they don't
appreciate him quite enough. Because he is so good. It's
just ridiculous how well he can help your team. My
team with Ronald Acunya Junior, it was eleven runs by
the way, and he hit four twenty one. I opened
the page while I was talking Ronald the Cuonya junior.
(05:29):
The team I have him on. That team was really struggling,
and I moved up four spots this week just on
the on the back, basically on the back of a Coonya.
I mean didn't I didn't have much else. I think
actually I had Byron Buston, who had a huge week.
(05:50):
But yeah, I mean it was like Ronald A Couonyr
Junior is just so amazing even without the steals. Ah,
it's just I love him. I love him so much.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
You know what's crazy, Gray is you read the stats
like four twenty one a home run, eleven runs, like
a couple of RBIs, and he was still seventeenth on
the Seven Day Player Raider. There was some crazy numbers
put up last week, like cal Rowley, Buxton, Riley Green,
(06:24):
and Haaneo, CJ Hadama.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
Week Isaac Collins.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
I mean, we're talking about a few of these guys
in a little bit, but it was just a week
where you know, the weather got warm and the ball
starting to fly a little bit.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
Yeah, no, totally.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
You know, I want to say, oh, man, I read
I think I read on Twitter or somewhere that this
past weekend there was more homers this past weekend than
any point at any weekend yet this season.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
I want to say, I think I think I read that. Uh,
don't don't hold me to it, but it was something
like that where there was more homers this weekend than
any other weekend this season. Yeah, I mean cal Raley'
is like cal Rawley's on pace for a sixty five
homer twenty steel season. What if you were drafting, If
(07:19):
you drafted cal Rawley, you're based like if and if
you're not doing well in hitting, what did you who
else did you draft?
Speaker 3 (07:28):
What did you do?
Speaker 2 (07:29):
Did you stop paying attention to your team? Like is
Alex Bragman still hitting? Is he still at your third basement?
Have you stopped like adjusting your lineup? Like, there's no
way if you have cal Rawley, there's no way you're
not doing well in hitting. It's just it's impossible because
like he was basically like a free pick in every draft,
(07:52):
Like maybe in a two catcher league he went, you know,
in the the one hundred and fifty range or something,
but in like a one catcher league, it was just
basically like, Eh, I don't know, do I want Francisco
Alvarez or cal Rawley? I guess I'll take cal Ra
who cares? Who cares?
Speaker 3 (08:13):
Take the home runs? You know?
Speaker 2 (08:14):
Fine?
Speaker 3 (08:15):
Maybe well I'll take some average.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
Later what I'll find I'll find average elsewhere, I'll find
I'll find steals, an average elsewhere. Maybe I'll maybe I'll
get twenty five homers. Who cares? Yeah it's catcher who cares?
That was your That was basically your your your feelings
(08:38):
on dramting cal Rawley and he is basically if unless
you have like Aaron Judge or O'tani. I mean, cal
Rawley is even higher than Otani right now in the
Player Raider, like Cal's like basically it's Aaron Judge and
cal Rawley is basically it.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
That's it if you needed.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
Power, though, imagine if you were like, well, Aaron Judge,
So I feel pretty good on power. But you know what,
I'll just take cal Raleigh.
Speaker 4 (09:07):
And twist my arm.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
I'll just draft cal Rally. Who cares. You're basically you're
out in front of homers in your league by like sixty,
like you're basically you're coasting. Thank god, you know I'm
in my NL only my tow Wars team that is
in first place right now. Thank God it's an NL
only because I don't have Aaron Judge or cal Rally
(09:31):
in any league, and as truly has hurt me. Unfortunately.
The Aaron Judge thing was kind of like, it's so funny.
It's like Aaron Judge is basically I don't have him
in any league. But that is more of a a
because of the draft spot I had in most leagues,
Like if I'm in a snake draft and I have
(09:53):
the third pick. I wasn't taking Aaron Judge. I mean honestly,
I guess someone might have been someone and could, but
I wasn't. I was taking Ellie de la Cruz in
every league and he's been fine. Like, don't get me wrong,
Elie de la Cruz has been great. But I wasn't
drafting Aaron Judge at the third pick. So it was
either that or like in an auction draft, I just
(10:15):
was not drafting Aaron Judge. I wasn't spending the money
for him. I would take that money and put it
towards Otani or Ellie de la Cruz. But cal Rawley
is another situation where I just I wasn't. I could
have drafted him. I just didn't, like there was no like,
I never felt like there was any real Like I
(10:36):
looked at cal Raley in drafts to be totally honest
as just any other catcher. Like it was like I
like I joked before about Francisco Alvarez, it was like, oh,
cal Raleigh or Alvarez, I don't care, it doesn't matter,
just flip a coin. It was just a catcher who cares?
Oh man that I mess that up.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
Yeah, I mean I did have Judge third, and I
think I have my grand total of two leagues, and
one of them is an auction league where I just
I just spent, like you know, he was the third
ranked player. But yeah, I mean it's been it's been
a crazy year for cal Rawley. Him being the second
player on the Player Raiders not well we thought was
(11:19):
going to be in the cards. I mean leading in
home runs. That's that's pretty crazy. Only four players over
forty dollars right now, and he's one of them, along
with Judge obviously, as you mentioned, Otani and then of
course PCA, which is just another way to say MVP.
Speaker 2 (11:41):
That was like, that's another thing, like sorry nothing, DRUP.
But it's like also when you have a situation where
it's like, oh I have, like you know, I say,
you have the fifth pick in a draft, You're like,
oh whatever, you know, I mean I wish I got
Bobby wedd or Otani or even Judge or even Allie.
You know, it's like, oh, well you know I got,
(12:05):
you get who you get, you know, And it's like, well, yeah,
I mean you do sort of get what you get.
But in a lot of ways your draft pick literally
does not matter, because like you could have had Cal Rowley,
you could have had pe Crew Armstrong. You could have
later on, you could have had Hunter Brown, who's right
(12:26):
now seventh on the Play Raider. You could have had
Kyle Schwarber. You could have had Josh Hayter. You could
have had James Wood. You could have had Max Freed.
You could have had Johannio Suarez. You could have had Crochet.
You could have had Zach Wheeler, I mean, or you
could have had Carlos Shrowdan and Byron Buxton, Jeremy Panya
I just said the top twenty overall on the Play Raider.
(12:48):
You could have had so many of those guys, Like
you could be number one in literally any league no
matter what your draft pick was. Like Okay, like maybe
you couldn't have Guy and Aaron Judge if you had
like the eighth or ninth pick in the draft and
you ended up with like, oh you got you got unlucky,
and you ended up with Vlad Junior, who is you know,
(13:11):
having just okay season versus like a great season.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
But then in your.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
Second pick, you could have had any of these guys
I just mentioned literally any of them, like you could
have you could have.
Speaker 5 (13:24):
Drafted a easy top ten overall, like on the NFBC,
in the NFBC with any pick, or in an auction league,
you could have had any of these guys.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
Like it's just so funny that, like in the beginning
of the season or in draft season, you feel like
you're so like, you know, you're so resigned to which
guys you end up with, and it's like, eh, I
guess you know whatever I ended up drafting. You know,
these guys because of my draft pick or you know
(13:58):
how things worked out in the auction. But it's like,
at the end of the day, you could have had
a bunch of these top twenty on the play raider
guys for cheap, forget it, forget even spending money. But
if you really wanted to spend, you could have spent
on any of these guys without breaking the bank. Like
you could literally have the best team ever if you wanted.
(14:18):
But you know, you didn't necessarily win all these guys
for whatever.
Speaker 1 (14:23):
Yeah, I mean, you could have come out with Kyle
Tucker and James Wood out of the first two rounds
pretty much across any drafts as you wanted. That would
have worked out really well for your for your fantasy
team as well. Gray, if you don't didn't magically get
Rond mccooney junior back who was single handly carrying you
up the ranks by himself. How are you turning your
(14:44):
season around? Are you you know, are you looking for trades?
Are you just being active? Are you potentially just cutting
some some names who aren't performing?
Speaker 3 (14:54):
What's your what's your strategy?
Speaker 2 (14:57):
Uh? You know, I think at this point you have
to sort of whittle down what exactly you need in
a league, Like if you need pitch it like you
should have some idea of what you need at this point.
So if you need, you know, power, then you try
and like go for a guy who has power that
(15:18):
maybe doesn't have like Aaron Judge is gonna cost you
a fortune, but like Uhennio Suarez may be a little
bit more affordable because the person who has him may
be like, oh, I think I'm selling high or whatever
you know so or even Schworeber, like you know guys
who have you know, huge power numbers who aren't necessarily
(15:41):
the same price tag as an Aaron Judge or you know,
other guys who like look like, you know, maybe you're
maybe someone thinks they're selling high on say a Suzuki
for instance, or or or cal Ralely. You know, maybe
someone thinks they're like I'm getting out now, I got
thirty plus I think got thirty one homers. I mean,
(16:02):
what more could I possibly want from cal Raley. I'm
gonna trade him for you know, I'm gonna have like
this guy in my league wants cal Rawley and he's
willing to give me. You know, uh, I don't know
Hunter Brown for instance. Like it just depends on what
you need and what you have to trade. Uh so
(16:22):
I would I would be trying to look exactly at
what uh you know, what exactly you need versus like
just trying to get just trying to win a versus
just trying to win a trade. Because at this point,
who cares if you win the trade? Like that doesn't
matter anymore, Like it doesn't it doesn't matter if you're able,
Like oh, it's like, oh I got you know, Alex
Bregman and Vlad Guerrero Junior for uh, you know, cal
(16:48):
Raley and Taylor Ward. It's like, well, yeah, but you
might have lost that. I mean we'll see. I mean,
we'll see when Bregman comes back. But it's like, just
because these two guys had you know, we're drafted higher
or have better name value, it doesn't necessarily mean that's
the side that's gonna win. So I would try. You know,
(17:08):
it's risky to go for you know, buying high. That's
always risky because it's like, oh, Kyle Rawley has hit
thirty one homers, but like what if he only gets
to forty and you just bought high on him. It's
like yeah, but I mean there's risk involved in everything,
so you know, it's like it depends on it kind
of depends on what you need more than anything. Like
(17:30):
if you need pitching, then you go for. Then you
go for like maybe you buy you know, maybe you
buy high on a pitcher, like like I said earlier,
like Carlos Rhodin was he's in the top twenty overall.
I mean, I don't necessarily think he's a top twenty
overall player. But again, you need to have you need
to take some risk, and you know, maybe maybe Carlos
(17:53):
ro Dan can hold hold it together and you know,
have a cy young type year. It wouldn't be you know,
the strangest thing that's happened. He's he's had great years
in the past. Max Fried another one who's in the
top twenty overall. Uh so yeah, I mean, maybe maybe
that's the way you go, or maybe you go for
(18:13):
you know, a bye low with like you know, or
maybe you go for like a rookie cup like Meserawski
for instance, or a Chase Burns, who we're gonna talk
about in a second, or maybe you do like a
bye low and you're like, oh, you know, Will Warren.
I don't know why I'm when he's talking about Yankee pitchers,
(18:35):
but you know what I'm saying, Like it just it
really is kind of like it depends on what you
have to trade and what you can what you can acquire. Uh.
It's really very league specific kind of thing and teams
specific for that matter. But pickup wise, pickup wise is
not It's not going to be easy if you're if
you're just looking to pick up guys off a free agency,
(18:57):
I mean, then you're gonna have to you might have
to just like go with hot hands to a certain extent,
Like you know, like recently I picked up Max Kepler
and he had a he had a really good like
two weeks, but now he's cooled off again, so I'd
probably have to go and look at waivers and try
and find someone else. But you know, trying to play
(19:18):
the hot hand isn't necessarily the easiest way to go,
but that also might be the avenue you have to
take in certain leagues, depending on either depending on the
league or like I know, like an NFBC leagues there's
there isn't even trades, so it's not even like you
can trade. So yeah, I mean, it just depends. I
I mean, I think it's probably mostly team specific question
(19:40):
on how to move ahead. You can't necessarily just have
Ronald the couonya junior, you know, start playing for your team. Obviously.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
Yeah, that's that's either happened or it hasn't. Unfortunately, I
think all those were good advice. Hit the Player Raider, honestly,
go to the seven and the thirty day, sort by
what you're looking for. Go over to roster percentage, find
whatever is appropriate for your league. You know, that's gonna
help you identify who sticks out and who might be
(20:11):
kind of maybe up and coming, somebody with good matchups
coming up. You know, all these things are are good,
good tools as well as the projection system, so all
of that will help you move forward. But I agree
you kind of deal from place to strength, deal from
something that you think you're good at replacing and fill
(20:32):
those fill those needs out. I know, and in our
parts league, I have to find power just just drastically.
Somehow my pitching is is dominating the league, which is
not exactly a great place to have a strong place
strong point in a RCL, unfortunately. But we'll leave that
conversation for some other time. Let's talk some player specific
(20:55):
stuff for the listeners. Gray Chase Burns called up by
the Reds number seven on It's his Prospect ranks. He
has forty two innings in double A, where he is
a one to two ninety or A and seven to
one whip, thirty six point four percent k rate, two
point six percent walk rate. In Triple A he had
twelve and a third innings. He gave up three earned
four walks in fourteen strikeouts. He's got a ninety eight
(21:18):
mile an hour fastball, slider, occasional change, and his showy curve. Gray,
I mean, number seven on Itch's list means he's pretty
special because it doesn't lightly rank pitchers in his prospect listings.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
Yeah, no, no at all. I you know, I think
in my post on on Monday on Rasball, I wrote
up Chase Burns and I bet I said, I mean
he could be what we've seen from Jacob Mizerowski, but
with actual command. So that that gives you an idea
of how much I think Chase Burns could be, how
good he could be. You know, I I don't see
(21:57):
any real flaws in his game, you know, with with
him and like I mean, he's on the he's on
the level of like Paul Skeins Uh, miss Roski who
I just mentioned, Uh, you know, all the all the
top rookie or at least young starters. Uh, you know,
(22:19):
we haven't seen it yet. So I don't want to.
I don't want to necessarily say he's gonna be Paul
Skans uh with you know for this year, what what
Paul Skens did last year for this year. But it's
cap he's capable of it. Chase Burns that is, I mean,
he's absolutely he could do it. His stuff is so
nasty and his command is right there, So I I
(22:41):
don't really see any flaws, like I would say he's
a pickup for every single league, even even the shallowest
of leagues. I I would say, like, if you you
saw what miss Roski could do, I would, you know, say,
Burns is absolutely capable of the same sort of results.
(23:02):
So you know, act accordingly. I wouldn't be shocked to
see him, you know, out of one thousand dollars in
fab I went shot, I wouldn't be shocked to see him,
you know, possibly break two three hundred dollars in one
hundred dollars leagues. You know, that's roughly twenty to thirty dollars.
(23:23):
You know in one league of mine he wasn't available
yet in any of my leagues, but in one league
where he was available, he went for forty one dollars
out of one hundred. So I mean that sort of
gives you an idea of how much he's going to
go for. I would I'm probably not going to be
in on him because, like you know, I I picked
(23:44):
up Miseraski in a few leagues, so I'm kind of
already committed to him him as my rookie pitcher. I'm
not going to carry multiple rookie pitchers. But Chase Burns
absolutely could be better than MISERASKI for sure. I you know,
I think you know you mentioned Itch isn't usually very
(24:04):
high on rookie pitchers and and I and I agree
with with which within that respect, because like rookie pitchers
can really kill you, just because Chase Burns is supposed
to be good. You know, now that I've said how
great Chase Burns could be, with all that said, he
could be terrible as well. I mean, things happen, you know,
(24:25):
it's rookies in general, like we saw with Christian Campbell. Uh,
you know, we've seen a bunch like I'm not going
to go through all the lists, but we've seen a
bunch of rookie uh you know, hitters and pitchers flame
out early and then come back and be much better.
So change Chase Burns could potentially not be good like
(24:48):
he could you know, come up and just struggle a bit.
I doubt it because like he's really polished for a rookie.
He's you know, he's a he went through college. When
U I would I would say he's got he's got
a ton of innings on his arm already, not too
many where it's like a concern, but he's got, like,
(25:08):
you know, he could throw a bunch of innings. He's
already topped like I think he topped one hundred innings.
No he yeah, well he he had one hundred innings
his last year at WAKE. But I could see him
potentially maybe throwing another sixty innings. He's at sixty six
(25:29):
in the in the minors, so maybe another sixty innings,
so cutting him off at like one twenty, and it
could be an excellent sixty innings, like Ace type sixty innings.
So I would pick him up everywhere. I haven't and
I won't personally, but that's only because I have Meserawski
(25:51):
and I don't, and I don't want to spend the
money on Chase Burns, but I do. I do feel
like he could be like one of the last big
difference makers for fantasy baseball. So yeah, I would grab them.
Speaker 3 (26:06):
Yeah, I think you grab them everywhere.
Speaker 1 (26:09):
Even though you said you don't really go with multiple
rookie pitchers, I will absolutely grab multiple rookie pitchers just because,
in regards to what you're able to grab off free agency,
it's the highest upside potential unless somebody just randomly drops,
you know, a top twenty starting pitcher for the rest
(26:29):
of season in your lap, I mean that I have
no problem grabbing out multiple ones if you still have
the fab remaining or if you have the waiver priority.
You know, this is kind of what I feel like
you saved it for. If you haven't got it got
you know, enough players at this point, or you've been
kind of saving it for this big call up you know,
(26:51):
miss out on miss Roskie, or even if you've got them,
spend the rest, go ahead and grab Burns and kind
of play it out the rest of the season.
Speaker 3 (26:58):
I mean, there's there's a few more.
Speaker 1 (27:00):
Interesting call ups out there, you know, Bubba Chandler, but
he's been a little bit roughed up recently, like Basalo
and and Brady House who was already called up. So like,
I don't know who you're also you're waiting on to
spend if if it's.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
Not Chase Burns, right, yeah, no, I agree.
Speaker 1 (27:21):
Uh, if you miss out on Chase Burns, you could
potentially look at Didier Fuintes. You know, the numbers of
the miners aren't spectacular. Twenty one and two thirds innings
in double A A at four nine eight year A
one two nine whip twenty five, strikeout rate, seven point
three percent, walking four and two thirds. In Triple A
he had one earned run, six strikeouts and no walks
(27:42):
in his only start there, and then he had five innings,
four earned, three strikeouts and one walk in his first
start in the majors. You know, it's not really one
I would usually talk about.
Speaker 3 (27:55):
He's not really.
Speaker 1 (27:56):
Highly touted, but it's he's high for the Braves at least.
And also he looked pretty good in his start Gray
minus the.
Speaker 3 (28:07):
Three run home run. Twenty year old with a.
Speaker 1 (28:11):
Just dominant fastball slider combination. Here, what are your thoughts
on on one days? I mean, if you would you
look at potentially grabbing him or is this more of
a wait and see?
Speaker 2 (28:26):
Yeah, I mean it depends on the league. But I
didn't like he Actually he was available for me in
my leagues and I didn't even I didn't even bit
on him. He seems like he could be fine for
fifteen teen mix leagues and deeper. I worry a little
bit about his homers. Allowed looks a little bit ify,
(28:46):
and he gives up. He doesn't keep the ball down
at all. He gives up a ton of fly balls.
So I worry about the homers.
Speaker 6 (28:56):
I think maybe he's like, he's good for deeper leagues
for streaming, but I don't know if really like a
twelve team mix league or shallower.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
I can't imagine anyone's really going to be going in
on him unless there's a good matchup, or unless he
starts looking like so good that you're gonna get in
on him, Like down the road maybe, but as of
right now, maybe in a fifteen team mix if you're
looking for starters, I could see it, but yeah, I
(29:29):
haven't really been. I mean, he's super young, don't get
me wrong, Like this is not the this is not
the end all on Diddy or Fuintez. I could potentially
like him next year or the year after maybe. I
mean he's only twenty years old. He's so young, so
I don't necessarily like him right now for most mixed leagues.
(29:51):
But yeah, I mean maybe if he gets hot or
if it's like you know, potentially, uh, he gets a
good matchup and it looks like decent on paper, maybe
give him a shop. And for mixed leagues that is
for NL only, obviously you pick up anyone, but I
even in N only, I don't have the number in
(30:11):
front of me, but I want to say, in my
NL only leagues, he went for like a dollar out
of one hundred and maybe like twenty out of a thousand,
Like he didn't go for a lot. So I don't know,
I don't. I don't since there's a ton of people
clamoring for him and I personally am not either. So yeah,
I mean, maybe we'll see. But he's so young that
(30:33):
I'm not writing him off for you know, the future potentially,
but for right now, I'm like, hey.
Speaker 1 (30:40):
Yeah, put him on the watch list if you don't
have to grab him. If it's a twelve team or
a short, shallow like you said, fifteen, maybe you could
take a look if you're just just needing something. But
there's there's probably not a lot here at.
Speaker 3 (30:53):
The moment, but a twenty year old making an MLB.
Speaker 1 (30:56):
Debut be discussed, and you know, we talked about him.
I will say the one thing that I'll give to
his favor is home run to fly ball. This year's
five point one percent across the miners. I mean, that's good.
He has struggled with it in previous stops. But again,
he's he's twenty years old. So an eighteen year old
(31:18):
struggling with a home run issue and a ball is
a little bit, you know, different than somebody who's had
a home run issue their whole career and they've been
in the minors for you know, seven years or something.
Speaker 2 (31:34):
Yeah, no, totally, yeah, no, Yeah, we'll see what happens.
I'm not writing him off. I'm not even saying like,
in the future he may not even have a homer problem,
a homer allowed problem. It's just right now it looks
like maybe with a lot of the fly balls potentially,
but it's hard to get a read on a twenty
year old. We'll see, maybe maybe he becomes great by
(31:57):
next year. But right now I'm to wait and see
on him.
Speaker 3 (32:02):
Yeah. I think that's that's pretty fair.
Speaker 2 (32:05):
Yeh.
Speaker 1 (32:05):
Let's move on to somebody who I don't think is
a wait and see, and that is Chandler Simpson.
Speaker 3 (32:09):
He is coming back.
Speaker 1 (32:10):
Cameron Messner has sent down because he can't.
Speaker 3 (32:12):
Hit the ball.
Speaker 1 (32:14):
Chandler Simpson was down for thirty three games.
Speaker 3 (32:16):
He had nineteen stone bases.
Speaker 1 (32:17):
He had three thirty three, three seventy three ninety six
in his thirty five games in the majors. He had
nineteen stone bases and at two eighty five, three fifteen,
three seventeen. You know, I don't think it's on the
offensive side that they they say he sent him down
for Uh he's gonna do you know what he did, right,
just steal a bunch of bases in it for average?
Speaker 3 (32:41):
And do you think he's gonna continue to do that?
I guess that's the biggest question.
Speaker 2 (32:45):
Yeah, I when this is one of the few things
when like, like a lot of guys got called up
and I kind of shrug a little bit, but this
is one where I heard he got called up, and
I immediately tried to go on to fan tracks and
see if I could pick him up. Like, I mean,
he's you know, he's a one category filler, right, I mean,
(33:07):
I'm not expecting a ton else. Maybe he'll hit for
a decent average, but the steels alone, I mean, who
doesn't want steals? I would have would I would have
grabbed Chandler Simpson in a second if he were still
on waivers. Unfortunately, I think Marmals picked him up in
front of me, so uh yeah, or maybe he maybe
(33:29):
he had him this whole time, Maybe he had him stashed.
I don't know, but I I was definitely looking to
pick him up.
Speaker 3 (33:35):
I am, I was.
Speaker 2 (33:37):
I love Chandler Simpson for the Steels absolutely. You know,
it's actually kind of funny that, like when he got
sent down, there is a lot of hubub hullabaloo, people
talking about how like, oh, he got sent down is
for his defense, you know, which I mean maybe I
(34:00):
don't know, but did he suddenly learn how to play defense?
It's like ridiculous. I mean, it's a ridiculous thing to
be like, yeah, he went he got sent down for
his defense, but then you know, three weeks later, he's
totally that's all fixed, Like he didn't learn defense for
the last six years of his professional career. But you
(34:22):
know what, in the in the eighteen days he was
in the minors, he's he's totally fine. Now, okay, I'm
sure like Cameron Meiser, who got sent down to make
room for Simpson, was cameraon. Meiser is like one of
the top defensive outfielders in the league, and like, you know,
(34:43):
everyone was like, well, yeah, that's I mean, he got
he got you know, Cameron Meiser was held on to
uh by the Rays because he's his defense is so
good and Simpson's Simpson's got to go learn defense, Like,
I don't know, I mean, may maybe maybe he learned
how to hit the cutoff.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
Man.
Speaker 3 (35:01):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (35:02):
It's like it's ridiculous to say, like, oh, he learned defense, now, like, no,
he didn't. He's still gonna be terrible. I mean, I
don't care. Personally, I'm not a rage fan, and I
don't care if he could play defense. As long as
he gets the advats in order to steal bases. That's
all I care about. But I'm just saying he didn't
learn defense. There's no way he learned defense in three weeks.
Speaker 3 (35:26):
So yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (35:28):
I mean maybe, I.
Speaker 3 (35:31):
Mean, maybe he just needs to pull like.
Speaker 1 (35:35):
I don't know, like a like a Griffy or an
ak keel and just playing like at the warning track
and just chase everything down. I mean, he's more than
fast enough. Why why why does he just chase everything down?
How is this difficult to get somebody that fast?
Speaker 3 (35:50):
To be.
Speaker 2 (35:53):
Exactly, It's like you're fast, It's like just stand at
the fence and run in.
Speaker 1 (35:59):
No.
Speaker 2 (36:00):
No, I mean I'm especially sensitive to this topic because
like when he got sent down, there was a bunch
of people being like, see, like real baseball is in
like fantasy baseball. See there, the Rays need a guy
who can actually play defense. Like yeah, okay, man, sure, sure,
he's learning. I'm sure he's learned that.
Speaker 3 (36:22):
Not the clock.
Speaker 2 (36:23):
That's definitely nothing to do with the arbitration. Nothing to
do with the clock. No, No, it's nothing to do
with the Rays being cheap. No, he's learning how to
play defense. Okay, sure, sure, man, sure, Yeah, after six
years of being in the minors not learning anything, he's like,
you know what, now I'm gonna learn defense.
Speaker 7 (36:44):
Okay, we're gonna we're gonna have a different couchdown there
than the one we had for the last two years.
It's yeah, yeah, it's it's a fun it's a fun
game that the Rays Rays play with their minor leaguers.
Speaker 1 (36:59):
That's that's that's always interesting. Anyways, Gray, let's talk about
another minor leagueer that we got really excited about on
his call up, and that is Roman Anthony, who is
just kind of falling off a little bit here.
Speaker 2 (37:15):
The full of the Roman Empire fall, the fall of
the Roman Empire.
Speaker 1 (37:21):
It's happened, Gray, I mean, I have him in a
lot of leagues because I thought he was gonna crack
the opening day lineup. Twelve games, he has four hits,
one on the run, once on base, twenty four four,
strikeout rate seventeen point eight percent walk right.
Speaker 3 (37:38):
I mean that sounds solid, But.
Speaker 1 (37:41):
When you look at the average and it's it's a one,
that's you know, one eleven is hard to swallow, even
in a small sample size. I know people are freaking out.
They spent their whole fab on him, They've been rostering
him this whole season. Are you are you gonna calm
the people down or are you gonna just just melt.
Speaker 3 (38:01):
Him down completely.
Speaker 2 (38:03):
Melt melt them down like a freaking nickel. Yeah, I
you know what I mean. I would say he hasn't
even what is he had?
Speaker 3 (38:14):
One?
Speaker 2 (38:15):
He said six six games four okay, he said four
games at home where he started. He said six total games.
Two of those he didn't start, so he said four
games total in Fenway. It's like it's so it's so
early still, you know, I don't know if Fenway is
(38:36):
gonna be all the answers for him, but it's such
a great park that like you gotta you gotta give
him at least a chance here. I think the Red
Sox realized that as well, you know, like you look
at Christian Campbell, who I mentioned earlier. He got a
good like six weeks of failing before they sent him
(38:56):
down again. Uh So I would I would be pretty
confident that the Red Sox are going to do the
right thing here and give Rome and Anthony at least
a month plus of you know, struggling, which is fine.
I mean, that's normal. And I don't know if he
will struggle for a month plus. I would doubt it.
(39:17):
I wouldn't put money on him struggling. I think he'll
come out of it. I think he'll be totally fine.
I think it's just a matter of just a small
sample size right now and being on the road in
terrible parks, you know, San Francisco and Seattle, bad parks.
Then he was he was home, and he was getting
benched there. The last two games he was at home,
(39:40):
So he hasn't really even had a real legitimate shot
of just being at home, getting comfortable and hitting the
crap out of the ball. So I'm not really concerned yet.
You know, if it's a shallow enough league where you
can maneuver him on your bench for a little bit
while he figures things out, and start someone else. That's fine.
(40:04):
I don't think you should drop him yet, though, I
think you should. You should hold on to him in Uh,
in every league, even the shallowest of leagues. I would
hold on to him to see if he can come
out of it. It's it's too early to drop him.
Speaker 1 (40:17):
Yeah, I would agree. I mean, the numbers still look good,
and it looks like he's getting unlucky. There's a one
twenty five bab MP, so that's that's terribly unlucky. Uh.
He's hitting the ball hard as a ninety one and
a half average average eggs velocity forty four percent hard hit,
So you know he's hitting the ball fine. It's just
(40:40):
he's not finding any any gaps right now. And as
you said, didn't didn't play in the most favorable parks
to start his his career in the majors.
Speaker 3 (40:49):
So hold on to him. I guess.
Speaker 1 (40:52):
Let's let's talk about kind of where he might fit
in Gray. I mean, would you take there's three outfielders
who have been just scorching hot lately in that Let's
talk about whether you take them or Roman Anthony.
Speaker 3 (41:07):
Let's just say it start.
Speaker 1 (41:08):
You know, let's say that you have the roster space
that you have all these guys, so we're not necessarily
cutting Roman Anthony. But for these guys, would you rather
start Roman Anthony or Mickey Moniac?
Speaker 2 (41:21):
Okay? I would start Mickey Moniac and bench Roman Anthony.
Speaker 3 (41:26):
Okay, Isaac Collins? Who you know?
Speaker 1 (41:30):
I mean, what are your thoughts on Isaac Collins. We'll
talk about these three in a little bit more depth
here in a second.
Speaker 2 (41:35):
Yeah, I would start Isaac Collins and bench Roman Anthony.
I would. I would probably do that for most most
guys who are hitting well, I would probably bench Roman Anthony.
Speaker 3 (41:49):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (41:50):
So Win siel Perez was the third one on the
good side on the bad side. Recently, a Dollas Garcia
or Roman Anthony, I think it's.
Speaker 2 (42:01):
In shallower leagues. I think it's time to move on
from Adallas Garcia. I think we you know, we had
we had some good laughs, we had a lot of
fun for the last couple of years, but I don't
think that's working anymore.
Speaker 3 (42:13):
I'd move on.
Speaker 2 (42:14):
Man, if you have a Dollars Garcia in like a
twelve team mix league or Shallower. I think you got
to look elsewhere. But you know, with that said, I
would start Roman Anthony over at Dolls Garcia.
Speaker 3 (42:27):
Yeah, I mean, I'm.
Speaker 1 (42:27):
Happy that he hit for a better average here in June,
but no power, no speed. That's not the Adolas Garcia
that we we loved a few years ago. This is
this is a different guy. How about lou Bob Louis
Robert Jr. M.
Speaker 2 (42:46):
I would probably start lou Bob over Roman Anthony for
the time.
Speaker 3 (42:51):
Being, Okay. And Jordan Beck.
Speaker 2 (42:57):
Yeah, I'd probably start Jordan Beck over. I'm an Anthonty
for the time being. Especially I know the because I
was just setting my lineup before we got on this show.
I know they're going to be home for some games.
I think half the week there at home. So Jordan
back guy, you know, especially in cors I would start
Jordan Back absolutely.
Speaker 3 (43:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (43:19):
I don't know if I'm starting in Luba, but I
agree on Jordan Back. I mean, he's been Luba has
been so bad.
Speaker 3 (43:27):
Gray.
Speaker 1 (43:29):
He has not hit over two hundred for a month
this season, Like that's that's terrible. I don't even know
how he has twelve steals in a month when you
hit one seventy, Like, that's impressive.
Speaker 3 (43:43):
He had seventeen.
Speaker 2 (43:46):
He must have been, he must have seen. He must
have like Aaron. Aaron Sevalier showed up in the White
Sox clubhouse and he was like, all you had to
do is ask to be traded. I've been loo Bob
must have been like, I've been asking to be trading
for years. Man, I went off of the sinking ship
(44:09):
for so long and I'm still here. Why can't I
get traded?
Speaker 3 (44:15):
Yeah? I mean at this point, who knows.
Speaker 2 (44:17):
I won't say lou Bob is like, you know, that's
going back to the preseason where I was like, do
not draft loo Bob.
Speaker 1 (44:24):
I was.
Speaker 2 (44:25):
I had them ranked probably a good seventy picks after
everyone else. I was really shocked at people who are
still drafting lou bob Is. It was mind boggling to me.
I I would I didn't want any part of them.
I still don't. I wouldn't buy them low. I could
see potentially dropping them in some legs, but over Roman
(44:47):
Anthony right now?
Speaker 1 (44:49):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (44:49):
Probably, I mean this is like, this is like, you know,
six of one and a half a dozen of another.
Neither of them are have been very good of late,
you know, and that's you know, and like we said earlier,
don't drop Roman Anthony. This is just the start guys
over him.
Speaker 1 (45:08):
Yes, yeah, we were saying, you're not dropping, But we
just wanted to to show some good hitters right now
and some not so good hitters on the opposite ends
of the percentage list, right And that's what we did.
Speaker 3 (45:21):
Greg.
Speaker 1 (45:22):
But let's talk about those outfielders who were top thirty
outfielders on the play Raider for less than fifty.
Speaker 3 (45:30):
Percent owned.
Speaker 1 (45:32):
Mickey Moniac, Isaac Collins and win Seal Perez. I'll just
let's talk about him in general, how you rank them eventually,
But what are your thoughts on these guys? Are they
worth rostering permanently?
Speaker 2 (45:47):
Yeah, I mean, I think with Isaac Collins, he's actually
been pretty interesting. I feel like I needed to take
a deeper dive into him. But I like what I
see with Isaac Collins a lot. I think he's got
more power and more speed than I think people are realizing.
You know, maybe there's a chance maybe he's a quad
(46:08):
a player. That could be because he is twenty seven,
so you know, he was in the minors for a
long time, so maybe this is like one of those
quad A type deals where like the guy comes up
and he's quad A and he hits well when he
first comes up and then just disappears, like I'm thinking
(46:29):
of like a Joey Minenez from the Nationals. He's like
my poster child for that. So yeah, but I do
think Isaac Collins is worth rostering right now. I'm kind
of I like what I see in his numbers. Mickey Moniac,
I think is who he is and just happens to
(46:49):
be a hot bat that happens to be on the
Rockies and you know it coreses good. Moniac has been hot,
So I don't think there's much there outside of that.
And when Seal Perez, I mean, his stack cast actually
looks pretty good. I didn't think much of when Seal
Perez when he was first brought up to me in
(47:12):
the comments, but I do think there might be something
there at least for you know, definitely a hot bat,
that's for sure, but maybe even beyond that. Again, he's older,
so he might also be another quad A Isaac Collins type.
So I'm not one hundred percent convinced when Seal Prez
(47:32):
won't just fade into the distance, but I would grab
him for right now for sure. I don't know if
it's gonna last, though, I wouldn't be willing to put
my money on that with whin Seal Perez, but it does.
His numbers do look good. I mean, great contact, has power,
he actually had speed in the minors. His hitting for
(47:54):
a decent average right now without a ton of luck.
I mean, the babbit's only three hundred, So yeah, I
don't it looks pretty good.
Speaker 1 (48:02):
Yeah, And he's kind of the youngest era of player
I guess the oldest are now player left from the
COVID year. Kind of messed up the development because he
was nineteen at the time they took the COVID year,
so he was right in the middle of development and
then had to repeat the same year the next or
(48:22):
same level the next year. It's just kind of like
he's twenty five making his debut, but he really could
have been twenty four, and he was last year. I mean,
he was twenty four when he made his debut last year,
so it could have been been twenty three, in which
case he's early to the majors even as an eighteen
year old so or seventeen year old, so I actually
like Wincial Perez the most out of this group. I
(48:46):
would say Isaac Collins is third, but it's interesting enough,
and really, if I have to start them every day,
I think I would go Collins over Moniac because I
still only feel comfortable with Moniac at home, so I
can only start on fifty percent of the time, and
I don't really want to have to do that unless
it's an absolute priority. And I don't know that Mickey
(49:07):
Moniac can continue.
Speaker 3 (49:08):
To be.
Speaker 1 (49:10):
This good, but he was the number one outfielder of
less than seventy percent owned the last thirty days. So
maybe I'm wrong, you know, it could be. It could
be possible. I've been wrong before.
Speaker 3 (49:24):
Gray. Is that your same order or what's your thought
in regards to the rank of those three.
Speaker 2 (49:32):
I think they're wrong, probably pretty close. I would agree
with you with Moniac is ideally he's cores only. With
that said, I've been starting him everywhere because he has
been hot, but he is ideally cores only, So that's
matchups I would probably go. I would actually probably go Collins,
(49:52):
then wins Heal, then Moniac, but very it's a very
fluid situation because they're all sort of the same death
while also being very hot right now.
Speaker 1 (50:05):
Yeah, so you're if you would roster all of them
right now? Right?
Speaker 2 (50:09):
I mean yeah, absolutely?
Speaker 1 (50:11):
Uh, are are any of the ones that you're like,
if somebody gets called up, you're not letting them go.
So if you know Macello is the last big bat
coming out.
Speaker 2 (50:22):
No, No, I would I would be fine dropping any
of them at a moment's notice.
Speaker 3 (50:27):
Okay, that's what we needed to know.
Speaker 1 (50:31):
Jack Flaherty is just faltering all over the place Gray.
Thirteen starts Gray, he won seventy one and a third innings,
three four one era A one oh seven whip, twenty
nine point seven percent strike out rate, eight percent walk rate.
Thought the pick was just stealing from the draft room.
Speaker 3 (50:50):
The last two.
Speaker 1 (50:50):
Starts, seven innings fifteen earned nineteen point two nine era
A two seven to one whipineteen and a half percent
strike out rate, nineteen and a half percent walk rate.
Is Jack Flaherty just done randomly overnight?
Speaker 3 (51:09):
Or what's what's going on? Gray? Can we?
Speaker 1 (51:11):
I mean you obviously have to sit him down. He
can't let him throw another one of those for you.
But are you panicking?
Speaker 2 (51:19):
Uh yeah, a little bit, But you know, I think
looking at his numbers, they to me it seems very clear.
The problem is his command is a mess, and due
to the command being bad, he's leaving the ball out
over the plate, allowing for a lot more homers and
the and the homers are killing him. So I think
(51:42):
it's fixable. I think he I think he could be
fine at any at any moment, he could be fine,
depending on I'm guessing, is a mechanics issue with him,
you know, even though I mean the velocity is down,
so you know, the numbers don't look good. Absolutely there
is there is issues there. But I do think it's
(52:05):
probably fixable as long as he is healthy. I'd be
worried for sure. I don't think, uh, you know, I
don't think there's a I don't think there's a chance
you should start him unless it's a deep, deep league,
like if it's al only, then you do what you
have to do. But I think in most mixed leagues
(52:25):
you should probably put him on your bench and see
what happens. I think there it looks like there's an
issue with the mechanics, would be my guess. I think
there's probably I mean, his strikeouts are okay, they're good
enough where you know they're they're as at least there
(52:46):
is in line with his previous year and when he
was great. You know, it's just his walks have just
almost doubled, so that seems to be the issue. So
if there's no commit he's not able to you know,
he's not able to locate his pitches, and he's throwing meatballs.
So even if you know, even if he does have
(53:09):
nasty stuff, if you're throwing meatballs, you're gonna get hit.
So yeah, I think it's fixable, but I would probably
bench him for, you know, until we saw a decent
start at least.
Speaker 3 (53:22):
Yeah, I don't think.
Speaker 1 (53:23):
You have to bench him till we see one, if
not two. This feels like there's either an injury or
he's tipping his pitches like one of the two. Would
you rather have Flairty this week at home for the
Athletics or his opponent Jeffrey Springs.
Speaker 2 (53:44):
No, I would go Springs. Yeah, I mean, and I
don't really love Springs, but I would go Springs over
Flattery for right now.
Speaker 1 (53:52):
Yeah, I went to when Springs is much better away
from Sacramento as well. How about Brady Singer versus the Yankees.
Speaker 2 (54:05):
No, you know, I wouldn't mess with it, and honestly,
I don't think we mentioned it, but it's probably by
the time people listen to this, it might be a
mood point. But I wouldn't mess with Chase Burns against
the Yankees either. I wouldn't mess with Brady Singer against
the Yankees. It's not worth it to me to have,
you know, to have that blow up, avoid the blow
(54:26):
up if you can.
Speaker 1 (54:27):
So.
Speaker 2 (54:28):
Yeah, I would avoid Brady Singer against the Yankees.
Speaker 3 (54:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (54:32):
I mean, I'm not terrified of the Yankees. In June,
they are the twenty third off most runs scored. That's
not terrifying. I know Aaron Judges is terrifying, obviously, but
the Yankees as a whole aren't that bad, especially away
from away from Yankee Stadium. Granted, Cincinnati might be equivalent
(54:55):
in many ways, So that one i'd probably go Singer to,
because again I don't I'm not starting flarity. How about
also kind of struggling Luis Castillo at Minnesota, I go
Luis Castillo. Yeah, I think so. I think at least
(55:16):
the he's struggling, but it's not in a blow up way.
It's just an a he's not really had a clean
outing in a while type of way. Yeah, but for now,
I think you just avoid flarity. I would agree we're
not dropping him though, right, Great, it only took a decade,
but has Byron Buxton finally arrived.
Speaker 3 (55:42):
I mean the numbers are great on the season Gray,
he is number six in.
Speaker 1 (55:46):
The outfield, number nineteen overall on the Player Raider. I mean,
it feels like we should have talked about him before now,
but I just assumed he was going to spike him
for himself and kind of render that move.
Speaker 2 (56:01):
I think if we if we mentioned his name one
more time, like Beatle June, he will end up hurting himself.
We gotta gotta we gotta worry about his quads, you
know what I'm saying, His his handmies could go at
any moment after we mentioned uh yeah, I mean, you know,
I feel like he's just been like he's the he's
(56:27):
the guy who you look at as like so much talent.
I mean, you know, I'm not saying anything new here.
I mean so much talent. It was just a matter
of staying healthy. But I mean, do we really trust
him staying healthy even like even at this moment, right now.
I would, you know, if you could sell Byron Buxton
(56:47):
off of you know, his top twenty overall on the
play Raider, and you know, someone believing that this is
the year finally he holds it together, I would sell
that in immediately. I mean, I I have Byron Buckston
in one league. The league has no trades, so I
am pop committed and I am not. And you know,
(57:07):
it's like I have him. As long as he's on
the field, I'll be starting him. But I don't really
I still don't trust him. I don't know how anyone
could trust him really. I mean, he's been you know,
in the league since twenty fifteen, and he's had one
year two years, no one year over one hundred and
(57:28):
three games played, two years over one hundred games played.
Last year, at one hundred and two games played, it
was his second longest, it was his second most games
played in the season. It's like ridiculous. I mean, you know,
so it's like I like what I'm getting from him.
I really would be shocked if he has more than
(57:52):
one hundred and I don't know. I mean, he's at
sixty games right now. I would probably put the over
under at sixty games for the rest of the season.
So if you got one hundred and twenty games, though,
I mean, that's great. I would I'm I'll absolutely take
one hundred and twenty games from him, especially if it's
this good of one hundred and twenty games. So yeah,
(58:14):
I'm I'm fine with it right now. But I think
at the end of the day, it's really a matter
of whether or not he's gonna be able to stay
on the field, and you just can't trust him to
stay on the field. I'm sorry, unfortunately you can't.
Speaker 1 (58:26):
Yeah, that makes it a really, really difficult one. I'm
thinking trade wise too, because it's like, at some point
you'd rather just hold and just say, well, if.
Speaker 3 (58:36):
He gets injured, he gets injured.
Speaker 1 (58:37):
If not, I'm just gonna take the random thirty one
year old magic Byron Buston season. But would you rather
have Buxton or carry Carprent, who has been solid, very
solid in his own right, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (58:54):
I would probably I would take Buxton because you know,
Kerry Carpenter isn't exactly a bill of good health, and
he also I mean he uh, he platoons out against lefties,
which is probably for the best, but still, I mean
he doesn't face he doesn't face lefties, so you have that,
and Buxton also has like, you know, he's a five
(59:14):
tool player if he's healthy and he's you know, currently
doing that. So yeah, I would take Buxton over Carpenter.
Speaker 1 (59:23):
Okay, let's move up the list a little bit here, then,
would you rather Buxton or I keep asking about about him,
but he just kind of fits in this this area.
Speaker 2 (59:35):
Jordan Beck mm oh, absolutely Buxton for sure. Okay, Wyatt Langford, Oh,
I would take Langford.
Speaker 3 (59:47):
Okay, I was just wondering.
Speaker 1 (59:48):
He's you know, he had he's also been a little
injury prone. He's I mean, he struggled in May when
he was probably injured and playing through it. He's not
been not been phenomenal. Since returning, he's been fine.
Speaker 2 (01:00:05):
Yeah, no, No, it's it's a fair question. I mean,
right now on the Player Raider, Wyatt Langford's at one
twenty overall, so it's not like he's tearing the cover
off the ball. I mean he is essentially, he's about
He's been about as valuable as Gavin Sheets according to
the Player Raider, So you know, it's okay, I mean
that's not great, but I would take why at Langford
just for upside and you know, but I.
Speaker 3 (01:00:27):
Mean the upside's crazy.
Speaker 1 (01:00:28):
He's got the same basically the same upside as Buxton
does at that point, right right about how about less upside,
more consistency Ian Hap?
Speaker 2 (01:00:39):
I would probably agree with Ian Hap because Ian has underrated.
He's been solid. He's been a solid number two to
three outfielder now for a couple of years. I would
take Ian Hap.
Speaker 1 (01:00:51):
Yeah, he's he's just one of those guys that falls
in every draft and just you can grab him up.
Speaker 3 (01:00:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:00:57):
Okay, So I think we found a good area for
Buxton where where the values you know, for looking for
trade obviously start higher than that if you can. But
you know, if you have to settle on that area,
we're both fine with those guys. Let's let's sagn off
it up Gray, Greg weisert. Is he splitting closer duties
(01:01:17):
in Boston.
Speaker 3 (01:01:18):
Or was this just circumstance? No?
Speaker 2 (01:01:21):
I believe was circumstance. At last I heard, I think
Corus said that Eraaldas he was resting Eraaldas and he
was fine. So I think it's just it was circumstance.
Speaker 3 (01:01:32):
I think.
Speaker 2 (01:01:34):
He's been good though. Why Greg Wiser, But yeah, no,
Eraldus is still the closer there.
Speaker 1 (01:01:41):
Yeah, I have Roldus as a closer in the Parts
League and went ahead and grad Wiser just in case.
And also, as you said, Wiser's been been very good
on his own. Is Hoolverson the first legitimate closer the
Rockies have had since Houston Street or Brian Fuente is
Greg Uh I don't even know if those two were legitimate,
(01:02:06):
but they were the most legitimate closers I could find
in Rocky's history.
Speaker 3 (01:02:11):
That's no joke.
Speaker 1 (01:02:13):
They looked at every closer in Rocky's history.
Speaker 3 (01:02:15):
Those were the two.
Speaker 2 (01:02:16):
Best about that. Wasn't there a Holland guy or something?
Greg Holland wasn't Wasn't he a Rockies closer at one point?
Speaker 1 (01:02:28):
He might have been at one point? I mean actually
four of the Rockies. Though he was good when he
left the Rockies. That doesn't count in Colorado.
Speaker 2 (01:02:37):
Yeah, yeah, that's that's that's fair. I wasn't what was
the There was a guy like actually a friend of
Coog's family, Daniel Bard, I believe was closed.
Speaker 3 (01:02:52):
He was He was closer. He might be he's on
this list.
Speaker 2 (01:02:55):
Actually, I think he's friends with Coogs's brother.
Speaker 1 (01:03:00):
Might statistically actually be the best of the closers.
Speaker 2 (01:03:05):
Okay, anyway, Yeah, Halberson looks like the closer for the Rockies.
He's been decent. I kind of I kind of wish
I grabbed him, you know, like two weeks ago when
the Rockies started winning games, but prior to that, I
didn't really want have anything to do with the Rockies closer.
And now that he's already done it now, I'm kind
(01:03:26):
of scared about getting in now because I feel like
he's gonna blow up at some point. Halverson, that is so.
Speaker 3 (01:03:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:03:35):
I mean, yeah, Halverson seems to be the closer. I
don't trust him.
Speaker 1 (01:03:39):
Though, really, yeah, I so this is what I did
Gray in our person league. I went ahead and picked
him up. But he starts the week at the or
versus the Dodgers, and I'm not doing that.
Speaker 3 (01:03:52):
So he's gonna sit.
Speaker 1 (01:03:53):
For this first series, but I'm gonna and hold him
and see how this goes. That's That's where I'm all
of a.
Speaker 2 (01:04:01):
Right, Yeah, that I mean that makes sense. That's that's
always the thing. It's like, oh, I you know, like
that's why I don't even like put in bids on
some of these guys in like an NFBC leagues, I'll like,
I'll win a guy like Halberson, and and then I
started looking at my lineup and I'm like, I don't
really want to start.
Speaker 3 (01:04:18):
Him going to start.
Speaker 1 (01:04:22):
That is the problem with that specifically, especially any Colorado's player.
But yeah, I mean I do believe he is the closer,
and he's been solid and so right, community of all
gets to say versus Boston on Saturday, even though he
gave up two runs, any concern here that he's losing
(01:04:45):
his his position?
Speaker 2 (01:04:47):
Uh Randy Rodriguez has been good, But I think Duval
still the closer, at least for now. I would be
concerned though about Duval holding onto the job absolutely. I mean,
if he keeps giving up runs, I think he's not
a safe closer by any stretch of the imagination. I
think he could lose the job. Do I think he
(01:05:10):
has the job right now? Yes, for right this second
he has the job.
Speaker 1 (01:05:15):
Yes, I would agree for right now it is him,
But I think literally the entire Giants bullpen has been
better than him, So it could happen at any point
that somebody else could be care coming for it.
Speaker 3 (01:05:30):
You mentioned Rodriguez.
Speaker 1 (01:05:32):
I think Tyler Rogers would also potentially, you know, be
in that mix as well. He's been, I mean, he's
been absolutely great, but they may just want to keep
him in his current role.
Speaker 3 (01:05:43):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:05:46):
The Brave's great. They've gone more than thirty days without
a safe. There's nothing really to do here. I just
kind of wanted to mention it roster Braves relievers if.
Speaker 2 (01:05:54):
You want to says wow, I didn't realize it. Thirty
days without a say, that's really terrible.
Speaker 1 (01:06:00):
They have either been blowing teams out or losing close games.
Speaker 3 (01:06:03):
That's there's been no in between. Wow.
Speaker 2 (01:06:07):
Yeah, you know. Actually in the thirty days of them
not having a save, Rossio Iglesias seems like he sort
of settled down a little bit. I think I would say,
still still could be terrible. Don't don't get me wrong,
but he has I mean it has been like a
(01:06:28):
four straight outings now where he hasn't given up a run.
Speaker 1 (01:06:32):
So yeah, I mean something no, I would agree if
if you're in a very deep league and you know
only when you everything is a rostered. I absolutely think
Ryce Iglesias is now back in the mix, whereas before,
you know, I think we decided it was probably the
only if it came up. But as as I mentioned,
(01:06:52):
it's been more than thirty days now where that has
not even been an option. So let's move over Philadelphia,
the other cursed closer city. O. Ryan Kirkering and Matt
strom have both gotten saves Gray that it seems like
they've made a change, but we don't really know necessarily
who it is. Which one would you prioritize or is
(01:07:15):
this still his way of not having one of them
get cursed and that they're just gonna alternate closing opportunities.
Speaker 2 (01:07:24):
Well, I will say with Kirkering and Strom ones are writing,
and one's a lefty. Strom's a lefty, so you know
that that in my head, it makes a little bit
more sense as to matchups, you know, if there's if
it's a heavy lefty ninth. Yeah, I mean I could see,
I could That makes sense to me, Like that isn't
(01:07:45):
completely insane to do that. And Stromp's been fine. I
mean he hasn't been you know, he hasn't been as
bad as as like Romano or you know, I think
he's actually Strom's been pretty dec So yeah, I would
say Kirkering for the uh for like sixty sixty forty
(01:08:08):
with kirkering Strom split, but both have been decent enough
to roster at least for now. We'll see. I mean,
you know, I don't think they're going to keep the job.
I think I think someone's coming in at the trading
deadline to become the closer. It's probably what's going to happen, so.
Speaker 1 (01:08:30):
You get cursed in the Philadelphia closer role.
Speaker 2 (01:08:32):
Yeah, oh yeah, for sure. Oh, Calvin Foucher or someone
from the Marlins. Is that someone is absolutely going in
and going to be terrible as the closer.
Speaker 3 (01:08:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (01:08:48):
Awful, like just awful, like the worst guy you could
Even if someone who's good, it's going to become terrible,
like Eraaldas Chairman is going to get traded to the
Phillies and become an awful version of Eraaldas Chat.
Speaker 2 (01:09:00):
He's gonna be terrible, but they'll do it. They'll trade
for someone.
Speaker 1 (01:09:05):
Yeah, Edwin Yoursana, who's been nothing but good in his
whole career, would go there and just be awful, just terrible. Uh,
Don Julian Gray and the same thing as last week,
like Scott's the Fireman, Vessia Yates Copak Mike randomly get stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:09:26):
Yeah, yeah, that makes sense.
Speaker 1 (01:09:28):
Okay, all right, give the people some waivers. I'll give
them streaming options, and we'll get out of here.
Speaker 3 (01:09:34):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (01:09:35):
Cool. So we mentioned these guys earlier, but they are
at the top of the seven day player Raider. That's
Mickey Moniac, Isaac Collins, Wincio Perez. Also up there is
Mauricio Dubon, who has position eligibility up to wazoo and
has been hitting. Alec Bernlison, guy who I really liked
(01:09:55):
in the preseason, has finally started hitting. Donovan Solano I
had a two homer.
Speaker 3 (01:10:00):
Game the other day.
Speaker 2 (01:10:02):
Dominic can Zone had a two homer game the other day.
I don't know if that means anything, but they did
have two homer games. Nathaniel Lowe has been really hot
first basement over with the Nationals. Jake Myers for outfielder,
at Astro's outfielder. He's been hot. He stole a couple
(01:10:24):
bags the other day, has hit a you know, has
hit well. He's hitting four twenty nine over the last week.
Michael Taglia got called up by the Rockies and suddenly
looks like the guy who we thought he was gonna
be in March, had a couple homers on the road.
I don't know how long that's gonna last because he's
(01:10:45):
still striking out way too much, so we'll see, but
worth grabbing to see how.
Speaker 3 (01:10:51):
Long it lasts.
Speaker 2 (01:10:52):
Javier Bias was hot again this week. Nolan Chanel very hot.
Cam Smith looks like maybe the breakout is happening late.
I don't know, we'll see, but he had a couple
homers this past week and hit three fifty. Spencer Steer
also finally maybe something I don't know, possibly, and then
(01:11:13):
finally Casey Schmidt. Tyler Fitzgerald was sent down by the Giants,
and that means that when Chapman returns, Schmid's gonna go
move over to second base. And he has been hitting.
So yeah, there's some guys for you.
Speaker 3 (01:11:31):
Yeah, poor Tyler Fitzgerald. Last year was a good run.
I hope you enjoyed that.
Speaker 1 (01:11:39):
Moving over to the stream inside Janson junk at San Francisco.
He's gonna get some runs starting for Miami, it seems like.
And I would grab him because he's been he's been
great in the bullpen in long, long innings and now
he's getting a chance to start, so I would absolutely
look at him. Charlie Morton versus Texas, Eric Lower gets
(01:11:59):
at Cleveland at Boston, Jose Soriano versus Washington, Jeffrey Springs
at Detroit, Zach Lytel at Baltimore, Ryan Burkeay versus Washington,
Logan Allen versus Toronto and versus Saint Louis, and Eduardo
Riguez gets at the White Sox and versus Miami. And
(01:12:20):
if you can't manufacture some good pitching versus those two,
you just they should just cut him. Honestly, Arizona should
just cut him if he just goes out.
Speaker 3 (01:12:29):
He's been terrible.
Speaker 1 (01:12:31):
So if you can't get through the White Sox in
Miami this week in water Rodriguez, you may find yourself
on waivers, not just in fantasy, but in real life.
Speaker 3 (01:12:43):
That may be happening.
Speaker 1 (01:12:46):
