Speaker 1 (01:09):
Hey, everybody, welcome back. It is the Rasball Fantasy Baseball Podcast.
I am beat on, joined by the one, the only,
the Fantasy Master, Lithario, the spectacled Man of Fantasy Baseball.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
How's it going over there? Grail right?
Speaker 3 (01:22):
Hey man, what's going on? I have uh? I have
a new uh. I have a new least favorite thing
you ever you ever have this hint thing the what
the drink the drink hint. This is a This is
not a paid sponsorship because I hate it. It's awful.
It's like you had uh it's this flavor is a
(01:44):
pineapple hint. It's got nothing. It's water infused with pineapple essence.
It's like someone ate pineapple about ten minutes ago and
then burped into a jar of water. That's what you're drinking.
It's so terrible, man, I don't even know why would
they even like It's it's weird because I do like
(02:08):
Seltzer with flavor. The yeah this, uh this water water
is good. Not a sponsor either, but actually I do
like it. But the something about sparkling water that is
so good when it has a little bit of flavor,
and flat water is awful when it has a little
(02:28):
bit of flavor. I don't know why that is. I
don't know if you if you have if you have
any any ideas why that is, feel free to reach
out to us in the comments on YouTube.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
I mean, I think flat water, what you have to
do is you have to flavor yourself. So you have
to find like the set of drops that you like,
and you have to use the drops. In flat water,
there's not good flavored flat water, and it can like
you can't buy it ready to go.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
I think that's that's like the remember those soda stream things. Uh,
I had a soda stream and then I got really
into it. I think I everything, I actually, everything I
get involved with, except for fantasy baseball. I get really
into for like a second and then forget about it
almost immediately. But no, anyway, I got into the soda stream,
(03:19):
like really hardcore, and I started I bought all these
different like flavors to put in the water, and then
I started putting in the uh into the water. I
started putting my vape juice. I wouldn't recommend that I
feel good for all.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
No, yes, please don't do that. Please do not listen
to Gray on this account. There are many things Gray
is is good at giving advice on this is this
is not one. I mean, remember when Gray bought a
pizza oven. If you listened last year, that was a
fun three episode. I haven't heard about that since then.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
No, seriously, no, seriously, though. I love my pizza oven.
But the problem is, it gets to like twelve hundred
degrees and like you literally you put in the you
put in the dough, and it's over. It's well done
within like five seconds. You can't, like you can't move
the pizza quick enough in and out of the pizza oven.
(04:23):
It gets so hot. I don't know if anyone, if
anyone has any recommendations on how to use a pizza
and I please reach out.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
Yeah, I don't think you're supposed to go out twelve hundred.
I think that's a good starting point. Maybe maybe lower
that temperature. Gray.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
But let's let's move off of your hobbies. Let's just
get into some some baseball stuff here.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
Let's get off of the hobbies and into serious stuff
like fantasy.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
Serious hobbies. Okay, serious hobbies that the rest of us
are invested in. Nobody cares about your pizza oven and
how much dough you've burnt.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
Gray.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
That's fine, we know, we know there's a lot of actually, okay,
one last name at the pizza oven. I've gotten to
the point where I know, if I'm making pizza oven,
I have to have a second dinner prepared because I
know I'm gonna burn my pizza so bad I'm not
gonna be able to eat it. I literally make pizza
(05:19):
and then and then I also make a second dinner,
like on the side, just in case that I always
I always have the just in case dinner instead of
the pizza. I've never I've never eaten the pizza in
the oven. It's always burnt. Okay, So it sounds like
you need a breadmaker. That way you can take half
the dough and mess up a pizza. Take the other half,
(05:42):
put it in the breadmaker.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
The way you can just make sandwiches with you know,
the vegetables, the pepperoni, the whatever else you got around.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
You just to mak a.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
Sandwich with the breadmaker every time. Literally, I've watched.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
Hours upon hours of people of people making pizza in
this oven, and everyone's able to do it.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
I just can't.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
Can't figure it out for some reason, I just can't.
I can't. I don't know. Why are you California.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
How to work a pizza oven? He needs the help?
Speaker 1 (06:18):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (06:20):
Right, well in many pizziolo's are listening. Okay, sorry, let's go,
let's get into it.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
Yeah, moving on something that hopefully helps people.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
Bryce Matthews was called up by Houston on tripa A
this year.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
He has seventy three games, ten o'm runs, twenty five
stolen bases. He had two eighty three four hundred and
four to seventy six. He did have a thirty k rate,
but also fifteen and a half percent walk rate. What
are your thoughts on Bryce Matthews? What kind of leagues.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
Were you looking at grabbing him in.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
Zero zero leagues? I, uh, yeah, I didn't. I didn't
pick up Bryce Matthews anyway. I don't know if even
I'm sure he was picked up in our al only league,
the league that you and I are actually in together,
But I don't know if he was picked up in
any mix leagues that I'm in. At least I was,
(07:16):
you know, I was faintly, sort of a little bit
interested in seeing him perform because he does have power
and speed, right so he had in the minors he had,
like you mentioned, ten homers, twenty five steals, and he
hit two eighty three. But the only problem is he
had a four h five babbitt and a thirty point
two percent strikeout rate in Triple A.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
So far.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
It's only four games, so small sample size, but four
games in the major leagues he has a forty percent
strikeout rate. I just don't think he can make enough
contact to be a legitimate fantasy uh provider, at like
for mixed leagues at least. I just honestly, I'm kind
of surprised the Astros even promoted him, because the Astros
(08:01):
are a one of the smarter organizations like this, Like
he feels like a guy that like the Angels would
have promoted or something. I don't know what the astros
are thinking, because he's so clearly not ready for the
major leagues, Like he just can't make any contact. So yeah,
I don't know. He's actually he's like people are. I'm
(08:23):
sure people are familiar with a three true outcome player,
a guy who walks, shrikeouts, and hits homers. Bryce Matthews.
Somehow he's become a zero outcome player. He has he
has a fifteen point four percent walk rate in the
in TRIPAA with a thirty percent strikeout eight. So he
(08:46):
basically goes up there and the pitcher's either going to
walk him or strike him out. I'm not sure if
he ever swings the bat. So yeah, I don't know, man.
I think the skills are okay for like five for
power and speed, like they I mean, they do look
like he looks somewhat interesting if he can make contact,
(09:08):
but there's no contact, So yeah, in mixed leagues, I'm
not interested.
Speaker 1 (09:16):
Yeah, I think you could grab him if you just
want to see what happens that you're just kind of like,
what else is there? Type of situation, but I agree.
I also don't know where he's really gonna fit in.
You know, it doesn't seem like he's necessarily gonna play
every day either, which is which is even weirder that
they would call him up and not play him every
(09:37):
day if they were going to call him up. So
this this kind of has the feel of like he's
gonna get sent back down pretty soon.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
So even if you're you're kind.
Speaker 1 (09:48):
Of taking the chance on him, I wouldn't wouldn't spend
too much. And you know the four oh five Babbit.
The Astros are in the PCL, which is you know,
the notoriously he hit her friendly, So four or five
bab makes sense there, But like you said, it may
not quite transfer over into the majors, and he does
(10:09):
have some contact issues.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
So I agree.
Speaker 3 (10:13):
If I can make a super random prediction, I feel
like Bryce Matthews is gonna get DFA by the Astros
in like three years, and then the Angels will pick
him up and he'll then play in front of whoever
the Angels star is three years from now. That's Pryce
Matthews will play in front of him. Yeah, play the
(10:36):
play the Yeah, the pross blocker in three years. Yeah, yeah,
I mean, I don't know. Is uh is a weird
profile because the speed and power look kind of interesting,
but he either walks or strikes out. It's not.
Speaker 1 (10:55):
It's not great, it's not Would you drop in of
these guys? Would you drop matt Shaw who's been pretty horrible?
Speaker 3 (11:04):
Yeah, Manshaw has been terrible and he's hitting ninth most days,
I think, and I would still go matt Shaw over
Bryce Matthews.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
Okay, so I think that gives us an idea of
where you're at. I'm not even gonna throw any more
names out.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
Let's move on to the next topic, which is the
pirates have announced that Paul Skiings is gonna have or
could have more shortened outings. It seems like, just looking
at the track record of what's been going on, he
may not throw more than five innings.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
Unless he's very efficient.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
Gray, what are your thoughts on schemes in you know,
shorter outings? Is it still is he still like a
top five arm or is he dropping down for you?
Speaker 3 (11:48):
Well, I'm going to read the entire report just so
people can hear what the pirates said, then i'll comment tonight.
So they said the they're gonna They're not gonna skip
any of Skeen's starts in the second half, but will
likely have him throw a few more low volume outings
(12:08):
as a means of matching his workload. So they're essentially
they're gonna have him throw for the pirates. I mean
that's like, yeah, I mean, you don't get much more
low volume than that, right, I mean it's like, this
isn't a high stress environment. We're headed for one hundred
(12:31):
losses for like the twenty fifth year in a row.
This is it. Man. I don't know. I mean, I
don't think this is really gonna affect my outlook for Skeens.
I figured, you know, they're gonna like somewhat curtail his innings,
of course, but how much they're gonna, like, I don't know.
(12:53):
Maybe he's gonna lose like fifteen to twenty innings off
of like you know, most starters. So say scooble in
the second half. I don't have the I don't have
the numbers in front of me, but say he's gonna
throw seventy five to eighty five innings in the second half.
(13:15):
That feels a little high. That's including Sunday start. But yeah,
so seventy five to eighty five for Schooble, I would
say Schemes is probably in the sixty five or sixty
to seventy range. So yeah, I mean maybe fifteen ish,
fifteen ish, twenty ish innings less than like a Schooble,
(13:35):
but excellent innings. So you know, I don't know. I mean,
it's like the thing with this kind of news is
like if you trade him or even consider trading him,
everyone's operating. I mean I'm assuming at least everyone's operating
from the same level of information. So it's like you're
assuming your trade partner also knows Skeens is not going
(13:58):
to be throwing as much inning, So like, what are
you gonna, like, you know, Roofie, your trade partner. I mean,
they're gonna know. It's not like you can avoid your
trade partner knowing, So you're gonna get less in a
trade than maybe you would have, you know, three weeks ago.
With that said, I don't think it's really gonna affect
(14:20):
his fantasy value much. I think he was always you know,
he's a top three starter at worse, a best starter
in the majors at best. I mean, he's still gonna
be excellent. He just may be excellent for like fifteen
less innings. So yeah, I'm not really that concerned about it.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
Okay, that's that's fine.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
I mean it sounds like you're not concerned just given
the fact that he's so dominanting those innings. In three
or in his last four starts, he hasn't thrown more
than ninety pitches, and three of those he hasn't thrown
more than eighty pitches. So I do think they're a
little bit here where, you know, if somebody's willing to
(15:03):
give you, you know, we're saying he's in that top
tier clearly, like if they're willing to pay that top
tier price, I might be willing to go ahead and
move on from him, just because you can probably put
that together through streaming and just if you're work. If
we're looking at just totals like strikeouts, wins, obviously the
ratios are gonna be hard to come by at that
(15:25):
kind of elite level.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
But I just feel like.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
Bad anyway because it's the pirates. I mean, yeah, that
was the other part is so I'll say to you,
the fear of de Gram getting injured versus Paul Skeens
throwing fifteen to twenty less innings. Who you going for
de Gram or Skiens?
Speaker 1 (15:48):
I think I'm probably going with schemes just because I
don't believe in the Grom. But it really should be
to groam like over you know, the season, and over
you know, last thirty days, like whatever kind of timeframe
you look at. The Grom's pretty much been better just
because he's getting wins and in Skins isn't like he's
(16:10):
Skins is the only pitcher in the top twenty who's
negative in wins. It's really hard to be up there
with a negative value in wins, and he does it.
So that's that's my problem though, Like last thirty days, Gray,
where do you think Paul Skins falls among just starting pitchers?
Speaker 3 (16:33):
I'll say, well, you've set me up in a way
for me to think lower than I would should.
Speaker 2 (16:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
Right, But I'll say he's a top thirty starters in
the last thirty days on the.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
Player Raider for the last thirty days among starting pitchers,
he is sixty six. Wow, because he is not he
doesn't get wins, Gray, just he doesn't. So the fact
that he's pile up strikeouts, you know, throwing great ratios,
it doesn't matter as much because he's not getting the wins.
(17:08):
And in that last thirty days is those four starts
where he's not throwing as many innings. And so that's
why I'm saying, if you can get top level value
for skiing still, somebody's looking at and saying, well, he's
still throwing five innings.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
That means I still have a chance it wins.
Speaker 1 (17:23):
You know, I'll still get my elite ratios, and you
could trade him for a top thirty starter in a
bat that's going to help you, that's probably more profitable
in the end.
Speaker 2 (17:35):
Just looking at you know, kind of what's happened this
season with him.
Speaker 3 (17:41):
Yeah, yeah, you know what I mean. Right now, he's
having one of those like excellent middle reliever years if
a middle reliever through an extra like forty innings.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
Yeah, I mean, like one of those two three inning
guys Michael Ka going, Yeah, one of those like Joe
Tory doesn't care about your elbow tendon.
Speaker 3 (18:06):
He's throwing an excellent like nineteen ninety eight middle reliever
Scott proc Or watch out. Yeah, I mean, I mean
that's fair. I just feel like, you know, like I
agree with you saying Schen's over to Gram because de
(18:28):
Gram has you know, the history of injuries, and you
know Paul Skeens is going to be excellent just for
maybe a little bit less innings and have no wins.
So I don't know, I mean, I hear what you're saying.
Though it's a fair point. It's a ballsy move to
trade Paul Schimes for like a, you know, as a
(18:52):
top five starter, get that, you know, bank that, and
you know, because I would think in a trade you'd
be able to get say Code Code Singa, Senga and
you know Rafaela. Say, you know, just picking random guys
that are on the podcast outline, I would say you
(19:15):
could probably get those two guys. And on the face
of it, that's like you're training post schemes for those
two guys, Like is that really that good? But in
reality it can actually work out much better for you.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
It really could.
Speaker 1 (19:29):
I mean, Singa's been great when he's healthy. He's actually
number twenty four on the play Raider, even missing time.
So you know, it's really kind of one of those
trains where you start looking at the numbers and the
names may not make sense, but the numbers kind of
do And speaking.
Speaker 2 (19:46):
Of Rafaela, let's talk about.
Speaker 1 (19:48):
Some July performers and it's kind of a special edition
where I don't know if we've talked about these guys
all season, so I want to give him some time.
Speaker 2 (19:57):
And you know, maybe the reason we haven't talked about
it they don't deserve it, but maybe they do. Gray.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
Let's start with Rafaela, number eight on the thirty day
Play Raider. In July, He's played fourteen games, He's hitting three,
forty five home runs, two stolen bases. He had a
really bad April, and then since May he's hit two
eighty nine, three twenty one, five point thirty two. His
strikeout rate is under twenty percent. He has twelve home
runs at six stlen bases. Like, is this is this
(20:25):
reel at this point that like he's he's been kind
of on the same same pace for a while now.
Speaker 3 (20:31):
Yeah. Actually, you know, the reds Socks two moved him
up to the three hole. So that's promising, I think,
because they they believe, they believe in them, so you know,
I I feel like that's a good vote of confidence.
My problem with Raphaela and it's sort of like it's
(20:53):
a non existent problem if you've had them all year.
But my big problem with him is he's not really
a huge speed guy, or a huge power guy or
a huge average guy. So he's gonna give you a
little bit of everything. And over the course of like
a full season, that's great. It's a twenty twenty two
sixty five year. That's a excellent year. There's nothing wrong
(21:17):
with that. I think even coming into this year he
was a little bit underrated because like last year with
his fifteen fifteen homer, nineteen steel year, he was actually
more valuable last year than I think a lot of
people realize and good counting stats, so, but the problem
was a twenty twenty year over the course of a
(21:39):
full season, even hitting two sixty five, it's like it
gets a little from like week to week. It's a
little bit boring when you have a guy who's having
like you know, he's hitting like three quarters of a
homer and three quarters of a steal each week. I
don't even know what three cords of a steel is.
That's like getting picked off halfway down the line. But
(21:59):
I with with a guy like him versus like say,
I don't know, say Chandler Simpson like, if you need steels,
like Chandler Simpson may not be as valuable as Raphaela
in the big picture, but in the in the small picture,
it's like, if you need steels, Simpson's gonna be good.
(22:21):
Or if you need power, uh, you know, like Raphaela
as good as raphael is. You know, maybe a guy
like I don't know, a guy who I'm thinking about
is struggling Christian Walker. Christian Walker gets hot and hits
for power. That's more. That's better for power. He's gonna
be better for power than Rafaela more than likely if
(22:43):
he gets you know, if he starts hitting obviously, So
it's like I don't like, I don't mind Rafaela really
in the big picture. He's actually a a solid guy
who I think is underrated. And if you had him
as like a number four out another number four or
even number five outfielder, probably in summer drafts, if you
(23:03):
drafted him as like that, I think you're pretty happy
with what you're getting. And he's like he's sort of
a set in and forget a guy for the most part.
But I just think in shallower leagues you're gonna you
might grow a little bit bored of him. I'm talking
about like, you know, ten even twelve team but mostly
(23:24):
ten team mix leagues. You see Rafaela hitting you know,
like one homeer every ten games or stealing a bag
every ten games, and you're like, it's okay, I mean,
it's fine, but it gets boring.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
Yeah, I think maybe the dual eligibility makes it look
a little more palatable, and like twelve team leagues where
you can kind of move him in and out of outfield,
middle infield, and you kind of throw throw them in
different places.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
But you're right, it's not necessarily the biggest upside play here.
He's kind of the he's kind of the.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
More speed equation of like an E and half. Maybe
the average is possibly a little bit better. Have will
have more power, Rafaela have more speed, and those guys
aren't necessarily exciting, but when you look up at the
end of season, they're always there in the player raiders.
So yeah, I mean, I'm I'm happy to own him
in pretty much every league I'm in, but I'm I'm
(24:19):
not necessarily in any ten team leagues either. Would you
rather have Rafaela or Xavier Edwards, who's been a little
bit better recently.
Speaker 3 (24:30):
Yeah, I mean I think i'd go Raphaela if I
were just looking at like, yeah, if I were just
looking for an overall player, I'd go Raphaela.
Speaker 2 (24:41):
Okay. How about how about Jordan Beck, we'll look at
an outfielder.
Speaker 3 (24:47):
I would go Raphaela.
Speaker 2 (24:49):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (24:50):
How about Heraldo Perdomo, who we I know we've talked
about at some point, but haven't talked a ton about.
Speaker 3 (24:56):
Yeah, I mean, he's probably been better than most people think,
but I would probably still I would still go Raphaela, okay.
And uh O'Neill Cruz, I would go O'Neil Cruse, Okay.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
I had to get somewhere eventually. How about Zach Netto?
Speaker 3 (25:13):
I would go Neto?
Speaker 1 (25:15):
Okay, And I went to And Zach Netto's the next
guy on the list, number eighteen hitter on the thirty
Day Play Raider in July. He's had three home runs,
five stone bases, he's hitting three ten and and Netto's
been solid all year. I don't know why we haven't
talked about him up to this point, except it like
he's just been solid all year, so there's never really
(25:35):
anything to stay here.
Speaker 2 (25:37):
I mean, what do you feel about Zach Netto.
Speaker 3 (25:42):
M Yeah, I mean I think, you know, he's been
surprisingly pretty consistent from month to month. I was going
to I felt like for some reason, uh, because I
have a Neto and a I think I have him
in two leagues. But anyway, my feeling on him was
gonna be he's sort of had hot and cold months,
(26:04):
but actually he's been pretty consistent. He had one like
May was a huge month for power. He had six
homers in May. All the other months he's had three homers,
which is fine though. I mean, he's the kind of
player you know he had. I think probably, I really
I think probably I have him, And I thought he
(26:27):
had a really hot month early on, but it was
probably more the fact that he came back towards the
tail end of April and only really and only played
eleven games in April, had three homers, and then had
a huge May with the six homers like I mentioned,
So he had nine homers in like what amounts to
basically like five weeks. So that's probably why I felt
(26:50):
like he had such a hot start. But he did
feel like he's felt like he's cooled off a bed.
I think it's fair to say he has because of
like you know what I mentioned with the first five
weeks of his season. You know, with all that said,
I mean, if he only gives you three homers a
month and you know, roughly twenty homers a year with
(27:13):
with his speed, which you know, isn't isn't that bad? Really?
I mean he's got like, you know, he's headed for
thirty thirty steals this year after having thirty steals last year.
So if he comes in at like roughly twenty two
homer thirty steel season basically what he did last year
with you know, this year he has a little bit
(27:35):
better average. I think that's probably accounting for a little
bit of luck because it's Babbit's a little high.
Speaker 2 (27:41):
You know.
Speaker 3 (27:41):
With all that said, it looks pretty decent. I mean
it's like not necessarily you know, the best of positions,
you know, where he you know, he's a shortstop, so
which McCall if he's got like you know, if he
had like second a second base eligibility a little bit
(28:02):
a little bit more appealing. But you know, even as
a shortstop, he's not he hasn't been bad. I mean
he's been you know, pretty solid five category contributor and
a lot of runs really, so yeah, I mean, you know,
long story short, I don't know how giant the power is.
I don't know how you know. The speed's what it is,
(28:24):
thirty steel speed, which is fine. And he's racking up
a ton of runs. It's good. It's a good year.
It's not really like I don't think it's ever gonna
be uh. I don't think people are ever gonna get
like super pumped to be drafting him. But he's probably
a little bit underrated. Yeah, I mean I like him.
Speaker 2 (28:44):
Yeah, I mean I think he is.
Speaker 1 (28:46):
And I think even as you're saying you like him,
you're you're potentially underrating him. Last thirty Days on the
Hitter Player Raider, Gray, give me a guess, what do
you think he comes in at.
Speaker 3 (28:56):
Well, you said I was underrating him, so I'm gonna
go higher than I would have.
Speaker 2 (29:00):
But I'll know, and I still think you're gonna have
to shoot him.
Speaker 3 (29:03):
Yeah. Probably. I'll say he's the twenty seventh best hitter.
Speaker 1 (29:10):
He is the eighteenth best hitter on the Last thirty
Day Player Raider, and he's a top fifty hitter on
the season. He's the number six shortstop on the season
and number four over the last thirty days. So the
consistency and the runs are just and he steals five
bases a month, like like clockwork. He steals five bases
(29:32):
a month and all that just keeps adding up.
Speaker 3 (29:36):
Yeah, I mean he's you know, as I look at
the player Raider and seeing him there, I mean, he's
he's like probably a he's a hot he's another hot
week away from passing Lindor and Lindor or Lindor is
another cold week away from falling behind a netto. So yeah,
I mean and yeah, that's that's top four shortstop territory.
(30:00):
That's really good. Yeah, I mean I do like him.
I think he's probably underrated because you know a little
bit of the Raphaela situation where he doesn't have like
huge category numbers other than runs, and runs are hard
to you know, runs are hard to predict. So I
(30:22):
mean you and you would think the Angels not being
a great team maybe necessary, wouldn't necessarily be the team
that would be propelling a guy to have so many
runs as they are. But yeah, I mean, he can't
argue with success. I mean, he's been good now two
seasons for two seasons, Like I think he's I think
(30:43):
he might even be underrated next year in drafts. I
wouldn't be surprised if he's after the top sixty seventy
overall in drafts, and I think he's probably worth a
top fifty pick. Easy.
Speaker 2 (31:01):
Yeah, I agree.
Speaker 1 (31:02):
I think he'll probably just continue to get disrespected until
he does it, you know, another year, maybe even two
in it, and then he'll probably be overdrafted and and
we'll be out on him. But yeah, for this year, Gray,
would you rather have him or you know, bounce back
Canada of the Year Trevor.
Speaker 3 (31:20):
Story, I would go Netto.
Speaker 1 (31:23):
All right, how about jose Al Tuvey, who is also
bounced back within this own season?
Speaker 3 (31:30):
That's true. I think they're really close. I mean, I
don't know, I would say al Tove, but I mean
it's it's kind of a toss up.
Speaker 2 (31:43):
Okay, Yeah, I agree, it's kind of close. On those two.
Speaker 1 (31:46):
I would probably go Netto just because I think the
speed's a little more consistent at this point. But I
could also see going auto because you're you're just trusting
in the track record and him knowing that park, and well, honestly,
the Houston being better than than the Angels I mean,
that's not really a high bar, but you're yeah, that's
on that that's on the list of things in now
(32:07):
two bays camp. Let's move on to somebody who's not
on a great team here, Gray, and that is Mickey Moniac.
Speaker 2 (32:14):
Number fifty four on the thirty Day Player Raider.
Speaker 1 (32:17):
He's hitting in three forty nine, three eighty eight, seven fourteen,
five home runs, two stolen bases. You know, he got
off such a terrible start, he got dropped everywhere if
he was even drafted. But since June Gray, he's hit
three fifty six, four oh eight, seven seventy eight with
nine home runs four stolen bases.
Speaker 2 (32:35):
Is Mickey Moniac for real?
Speaker 1 (32:37):
Or is this just like I'm I've looked at him
so many times and not picked him up, and now
reading those numbers, I just feel like an idiot for
not having picked him.
Speaker 2 (32:47):
Up at some point. Like, I don't know, what are
your thoughts here on Mickey Moniac.
Speaker 3 (32:55):
Yeah, I mean I think I think he's like, uh,
I mean, he's definitely gonna be awful next year because
we know what happens in Rockies outfielders. Well, yeah, for sure,
I mean, that's that's absolutely the case. Yeah, I mean,
I don't know, it's hard to really get super excited
(33:16):
about like Mickey Moniac because like you look at his
numbers and I mean he's just sort of like so
kind of blah. I mean, I don't know. I you know,
the fourteen homers and five steals and two sixty seven
average that he has so far is great for you know,
picking him up off of waivers.
Speaker 1 (33:37):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (33:38):
And if he ends the year, if you pro rate
that out too, even if he ends the year with like,
you know, twenty five homers and eight steals, say, twenty
five homers and eight steals is great. But I mean,
is that really? Is that really? Like you know, again,
it's like it's hard to get super excited about that.
I mean, I guess it's nice that he's doing it
(34:00):
if you have him on a team, but to trust it,
I don't know, it's and I do I actually do
have him on a team, and I don't trust it.
I mean, the hard hit, the hard HiT's good. He
does hit a lot of fly balls, so maybe there's
something to like, you know, he's hitting finally in a
(34:21):
in a very good park for him, and he's getting
the ball in the air. And you know, good things
are happening. Yeah, but it's yeah, he's just he's just
so boring. I don't know, man, I it's really hard
for me to build up enthusiasm for Mickey Modiac. He's
been fine. I guess if you're, you know, struggling to
(34:42):
find someone off of waivers, go for it.
Speaker 2 (34:46):
Yeah, I say, I will say for him.
Speaker 1 (34:48):
The launch angle is down to pretty much the lowest
that's been in his major league career. He's at sixteen
point four, which is which is fine. The hard hit
is way up for where he's been, at least the
stat cast version of hard hit. The zone swing rate
is is better, It's been better the last two seasons.
(35:09):
The contact grade is better. The swinging strike grade is
the best of his career by five percent. So there's
signs of he's improving. But I'm with you that it's
not necessarily an overly impressive skill set. It's kind of
on the lower end of the raphaela Ian Happ scale
(35:30):
that we were talking about earlier. But I still think
he should be owned in like any five outfielder, at
least twelve team, if not even ten team. Potentially, if
you're looking for an outfielder. I do think he probably
needs to be owned at this point, just because he's
done it for you know, two and a half months
now and it's it's looked good. So I'm willing to
(35:52):
at least buy in.
Speaker 2 (35:54):
As a deep play in those type of leagues.
Speaker 3 (35:58):
Mm, yeah, no, agreed.
Speaker 2 (36:00):
All right, Let's talk about a.
Speaker 1 (36:01):
Couple of arms Grave Brian Beayo number nineteen, starting pitcher
on the last thirty day Player Raider. Over the last
thirty days, he has thirty eight in the third innings
two eight two e A nine, seven whip, twenty nine strikeouts,
seven walks, and a three and three record. I mean,
Brian Beyo was somebody that had pretty good pedigree at
one point, and you know he had injuries and kind
(36:24):
of got moved in and out of the rotation and
back and forth from the minors. But what are your
thoughts on this Brian Beyo streak that he has going
and is this the breakout or is you know, the
pumpkin going to disappear?
Speaker 2 (36:38):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (36:39):
Yeah, I would I would say disappear would be my guess.
You know, his numbers is underlying numbers look pretty bad.
You know, like you mentioned, he's had a good month,
but you know, his overall season numbers are just like
really black. I mean really just kind of like, you know,
(37:02):
six point eight k per nine, three point two walk
per nine. He's not like he's not a great part.
He's hitting his BA. His babbit is low for him.
He's in a bad park for babbit, so that, you know,
you would think that would go up a little bit.
And he looks a lot like you know, on this
(37:22):
for his career. He's a four point one seven ear
a guy, and he doesn't look that different than you know,
what he's done for his career. Really, he's just had
a good month, So I would say he's still like
a four point two era pitcher that just happens to have,
like you know, a steady run of like you know,
a month's run of good starts.
Speaker 1 (37:45):
Yeah, I agree, he's still kind of in that streaming category,
just you know, on the strong side of it right
now because he is pitching well right now and it's
it's it's working for him. But I'm with you, I
think there's probably a drop off coming. As you mentioned
all the underlying numbers, just just say it's been a
little unlucky, even though again last third days have been
(38:08):
very clean for him.
Speaker 2 (38:10):
Would you rather have him or Jose Burrios?
Speaker 3 (38:14):
M Well, Barrios is just so terrible, so he is
I would go bao.
Speaker 2 (38:23):
Okay about Brandon Fat, who's who's also kind of turned
it on a little bit recently.
Speaker 3 (38:28):
Yeah, yeah, I would probably try Brandon Fat again because
I do think there's something too fat being like, like,
I liked him coming into the year. He looked awful
for like the first three months of the season, but
he has looked better in July, So I would probably
try Fat.
Speaker 1 (38:48):
Yeah, I agree, And for what it's worth, Beo's strikeout
rate is just not impressive, so you know, he has
given a lot of Indians. If you're looking for wins,
I think that's you know, he's a good spot for that.
But I think if I'm looking for strikeout to ratios,
I'm going I'm going the other way direction there.
Speaker 2 (39:08):
And going with that.
Speaker 1 (39:10):
Somebody who we definitely should have talked about before now
Eury Perez, number ten starting pitcher on the thirty day
player inder Gray, but he's been good for longer than that.
But over the last thirty days he has twenty seven innings,
thirty k six walks two three three, era O six
seven whip in three in one record. I mean eury
Perez has been I mean he's been great over at
(39:33):
least recently, and then even beyond that, he's been he's
been pretty strong most of the season after a bad start.
Speaker 3 (39:41):
Oh yeah, no completely. Uri Perez to me is like
an ace just waiting to happen. I think he's got
I think he's got a cy young in his arm
at some point, Like I'm I'm fully bought in on
Uri Perez. I just think he needs to get his
innings up and he needs to stay healthy. Really, like
I I don't see anything wrong with ury Prez, like
(40:03):
he's probably like I was thinking around because this is
a sickness, obviously, I was already thinking about twenty twenty
six and Ury Perez, Like I can't draft ury Prez
soon enough in twenty twenty six, Like I'm I would
be like assuming he's healthy through the rest of this year,
and you know, we get to the end of the
(40:24):
year and he's and he stays healthy. But yeah, man,
you're ury Prez and Joe Boyle are like already like
bouncing around in my mind for twenty twenty six. I'm
absolutely bought in on Ury Prez. I think he's uh,
I think I think he's probably like better than you know,
even his numbers uh so far this year, and like
(40:46):
you mentioned, they haven't been bad. I mean, he's got
a three one eight ear a in uh, you know,
thirty four innings so far this year. I wouldn't be
surprised if that that could be much better. Uh, and
you know a three point one eight eray is already
very good. So yeah, I'm in.
Speaker 2 (41:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (41:06):
And while the Pirates are limiting skiings innings, the Marlins
just hit your uripress though, the longest outing of his season,
so you know, maybe there's still more innings here than
we thought as well. Isaac Collins number fifty eight on
the thirty day Player Raider. He's hit three eleven four
h two four nineteen two home runs for stone bases
(41:30):
sixteen rbi or sixteen runs ten RBIs. You know, we're
kind of getting into a deeper grouping here, but still
somebody who's been performing well recently.
Speaker 2 (41:39):
Gray, what do you think about Isaac Collins?
Speaker 3 (41:43):
You know, I wrote he was my lead by I
think like two or three weeks ago. I like him
a lot. I didn't really, I didn't get the sense
that many people were that interested in him when I
wrote them up, So I blame myself for not being
able to get people excited about him. But he looks good, good,
you know. I think there was a there was definitely something.
(42:03):
I might even mentioned you in the write up because
like it's something you say a lot, like how you know,
twenty twenty was such a mess of a year for
minor league prospects and for people's development, so he missed basically,
he missed twenty twenty obviously. So then you have a
guy who's like, you know, barely he's already gonna be
(42:27):
uh he was gonna be twenty two, Well, he was
twenty two. He was twenty two in twenty twenty, so
he was already, like you know, at a point where
that development really should have been ramping up in him
moving on to like double A in twenty twenty, but
it didn't happen, so instead he went back to single
A for twenty twenty one, and then he slowly built up,
(42:48):
so then he wasn't He didn't move up until like
to double A until he was twenty four years old.
Then you know, a trip Awa the following year at
twenty five. So now we're looking at guy who, like,
on the surface, you see his numbers and you're like, well,
but he's twenty seven years old. So he's like he's
obviously a Quad A player. And I don't know if
(43:08):
that's true. I mean, I don't. I don't think it is.
Like he has always had great contact. He was a
nineteen percent strikeout rate guy in Triple A, fourteen percent
walk rate in Triple A, hit two seventy three with
a fairly neutral Babbitt had power and speed fourteen homers
twenty four steals in Triple A last year, and for
(43:33):
you know, because through no fault of his own, he
just wasn't promoted like he was ready last year. So
now he's up and doing exactly what he's always done,
which is hit for power and have some speed and
also hit for a decent average. So yeah, I mean
I like Isaac Collins. I think he's probably a twelve
(43:54):
team mixed league guy, even though I think at most
people are probably looking him at him for fifteen team
mix leagues. But yeah, I'm in on Isaac Collins.
Speaker 1 (44:04):
Yeah, I mean, he makes great contact I mean, I
think if you're just looking for somebody who's not gonna
hurt you in like a middle infield spot or as
a utility player, Isaac Collins is a really solid guy
to grab up at this point. Like you said, top
sixty on the thirty eight Player Raider, so he's been performing.
(44:26):
Like I said, we're gonna stay a little bit deeper
for this last couple. Lennon Sosa number sixty four thirty
Day Play Raider two fifty eight three h five forty three.
But he does have five home runs in that time
and a stolen base. What are your thoughts on Lennon Sosa.
Speaker 3 (44:41):
This is the first time I've had thoughts on Lenon Sosa.
Speaker 2 (44:45):
I'm forcing them into your head right now.
Speaker 3 (44:50):
I managed to avoidlenzos for my entire life until now. Yeah,
I mean, I think he's been probably a hotch potato.
I think he had a you know, he had a
good month like you mentioned sixty four on the thirty
Day Player Raider, So it was a solid month. But
(45:11):
he doesn't really have power, he doesn't really have speed.
He's I don't know, he's kind of a lightweight. I'm
I'm not really I'm not I'm not totally into Lenon Sosa.
I to be honest, He's fine if you're like struggling
at like, you know, I think he has a bunch
of different eligibilities or whatever he has. I don't even
know because I've never thought about him before. But yeah, no,
(45:35):
he has a few different eligibilities. So I guess if
you're in like a fifteen team mix league or deeper
and you're struggling somewhere like an M I or C
I or or utility, and you're like, uh, and you're
up against it, then maybe Lenon Sosa. But yeah, I
(45:55):
don't know. I saw Lenon So's on waivers and one
of my leagues, uh, and I did not pick him up.
So I don't know, man, I have Yeah, I don't
have like a ton of good feelings for him, But
you know, I went for on Hell Martinez over Lennon
(46:17):
Sosi to give you an idea of where I went.
But yeah, I guess if you look, I think that
does say a little bit for us Gray.
Speaker 1 (46:27):
I will say in his for his credit for the season,
pretty much across the board, he has better numbers than
he's ever had so hard hit average exit velocity, launch
angle is up zone rate is is good. He's kind
of always been pretty solid in that category, so I
do think maybe there's the best version of Lenon so
(46:49):
so that we're gonna get right now.
Speaker 2 (46:51):
But as you mentioned, it's not overly exciting.
Speaker 1 (46:55):
It's mostly power with a little bit of speed, and
he is kind of moving up in the order at
different times, so it's something to kind of monitor if
he does stick up in the top of the order.
But for now, probably nothing unless you are in I
would say, fifteen team, or like you said, multi position
in a twelve team with a fairly deep bench could
(47:17):
be interesting, you know, if you weren't interested in Lennon Sosa,
can I interested in Romey Gonzalez Gray number sixty nine.
Speaker 2 (47:26):
On the thirty thirty day play Raider gaey uh.
Speaker 1 (47:30):
Three sixteen three forty nine six point eighty four, he
said four home runs and a stolen base.
Speaker 2 (47:36):
Again kind of in the same mold.
Speaker 1 (47:38):
But is he any more interesting to you Gray, just
because he's not a Chicago White Sox player.
Speaker 3 (47:46):
No, not really. Probably I would probably say Romei Gonzalez
over Lennon Sosa if I was struggling for an am
I guy. But Yeah, I'm not really super interested in
Rome Gonzalez. A slight bit better than Sosa, but not
much better.
Speaker 2 (48:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (48:06):
I don't know that he's gonna play every day, which
is the problem. But I do actually kind of like
Rome Gonzalez. He hits the ball really really hard. He
just hits it kind of into the ground and belongs
in Toronto, not Boston. But if he can just lift
the ball a little bit more, he absolutely crushes the ball.
(48:28):
He's averaging a ninety four point eight average EGGS velocity.
He has a sixty point two percent hard hit rate,
so he's destroying baseball's They just you know. He's also
a forty eight percent ground ball guy. So that's that's
part of the problem there. All right, Great, let's saging
off it up. Shelby Miller goes on the il because
(48:52):
he's terrible. Who do you want in Arizona as the
as the closer for now?
Speaker 2 (48:59):
No one?
Speaker 1 (49:00):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (49:02):
I guess Kevin Ginkle. I don't. I don't know. I
think probably probably Gankle, but.
Speaker 2 (49:14):
I I don't.
Speaker 3 (49:15):
I don't have great feelings for Ginkle. It's a Ginkle
Einhorn iroin Horn Ginkle. I don't. Yeah, I think Graveman
is also there, and I think he's probably the second
guy for d Backs, but it's not it's not great.
I actually I looked at Ginkle because in one league,
(49:37):
I do have Gankle, and it sounds like I have
STD I have, I have Ginkle. I have Ginkle in
one league, and I looked at his numbers for like
the last you know, for whatever a couple of weeks
since he's been like the quote unquote uh handcuff slash
(49:58):
closer or whatever. I think he had like one one
save in like three weeks or something. I don't know
it was. It wasn't good. So I guess my point
is I was looking at him, and I need saves
in that league. And even in that league, I was
kind of like, it's I don't know if it's really
worth it to put Ginkle in my lineup. So instead
(50:21):
I went with a terrible starter, I think. But yeah,
I don't know, I guess Ginkle.
Speaker 2 (50:27):
Yeah, yeah, I think if you're going with somebody, that's
I guess that's who you go with. But I honestly
don't want him.
Speaker 1 (50:35):
Maybe Kyle Bacchus for lefty, you know, specific saves that
that might be actually where I go if I'm if
I'm desperate for saves, because at least he's been pretty
pretty solid at least whereas you know, I don't know
that I've ever seen somebody with an eight one eight
e ra A get the closer gig Gray. This is
(50:57):
uh maybe the first time in all of baseball I've
ever seen that, which is kind of crazy. It's Arizona.
And speaking of crazy closing gigs, Philadelphia, I mean, are
you ready to curse Matt Strom and give him the
closer label? Uh?
Speaker 3 (51:19):
No, I think yeah. I mean I think the Phillies
went they moved on from Kirkring to Strom.
Speaker 2 (51:27):
I do think Strom is.
Speaker 3 (51:28):
Probably their number one right now. But I think in
like what today's the twenty first, I think by the
thirty first, they're gonna trade for someone. They actually they
just signed David Robertson, so I wouldn't be surprised if
David Robinson gets saves or gets more saves than Strom
or Kirkring if they don't go out and trade for someone.
(51:51):
But I think they're going to. I mean, they'd be
foolish not to.
Speaker 2 (51:55):
I would.
Speaker 3 (51:55):
I want to be shocked to see Kyle Finnigan or
David Gnar or someone go over to the Phillies and become,
you know, a terrible closer for the Phillies for a month.
Someone someone's got to get that terrible closer for the
Phillies role. It's not it's not gonna fill itself. Yeah,
(52:16):
I think probably Strong, but I don't want him in
any leagues really either.
Speaker 2 (52:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (52:23):
I mean he's been better as of late, so you
know there's that. But again, as soon as Philly gives
somebody closer duties, they just fall apart. I would pick
up Strong and just know that eventually he's gonna blow
up on you. Daniel Roberts looked really good. Since they
called him up, they could potentially look at him. But
I agree, you know, the Phillies seem like they're surely
(52:46):
going to the playoffs, so this, this feels like a
clear place of investment that they need to look at.
Nobody else in that bullpen has been any good, so
somebody they need, they probably need more than one. I'm honestly,
let's move over to their divisional I would say rival,
but I don't think anybody considers Miami arrival. Is there
(53:11):
anybody there that you that you want as the closer.
If somebody's desperate, who do you think is getting the
most saves there?
Speaker 2 (53:21):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (53:22):
You know, I was thinking because I saw you had
the Marlins down for us to discuss with Sagnoff, and
I was I just thought of like last year, was
it last year with Tanner Scott? They trade him away? Yeah? Actually,
now that I think about, I want to be shocked
if the Marlins trade just about every anyway. You know
(53:44):
the Marlins, I think with their bullpen they have a
an open door policy where it's like, whoever you want,
if you're willing to give us someone for them, you
can have them. I don't think anyone in the Marlins
bullpen is really off limits for trade. So I like
Ronnie Harak, henri Quiz, Henriquez, Enriquez, Henriquez. I like Ronnie Riquez,
(54:11):
But I wouldn't be shocked if, you know, the Marlins
trade two of the three guys who are currently in
talks for getting saves for them, which is Bender and
Calvin Foucher. I wouldn't be shocked if they trade either
of them or all three of them even I mean
I I wouldn't be shocked. So I like, uh, I mean,
(54:34):
I like Henriquez though, if if he was there getting saves,
he's he's been good.
Speaker 1 (54:40):
Yeah, I agree, I think he's probably worth a look
in in Lake. Bachar or Bakar also worth a look.
He's been he's been really good since he's been called up.
Both of them could potentially be getting save opportunities because,
as you mentioned, Foucher and Bender probably on the move.
If if we had to guess from from how Miami
(55:04):
tints to treat relievers.
Speaker 2 (55:07):
And one more here, another bad team over in Colorado.
Speaker 1 (55:12):
We really thought maybe they had finally found a closer
and Seth Halverson and then he he just blew up
terribly gray, and it.
Speaker 2 (55:22):
Seems like they took the job away from him immediately
following that, who do you want in Colorado?
Speaker 3 (55:28):
If you have to have somebody, I don't want anyone
in Colorado. I honestly, I think you're like I feel like,
if you're desperate for saves, I feel like you you
try and get like a you know, like a Cad
Smith or I don't know, or like someone like maybe
(55:51):
a Uriel Rodriguez or you know, a setup man on
a on a better team. Because you're you're not gonna
really get saved from the Rockies guy. I mean maybe,
but it's not worth the headache. So if I were, like,
you know, really desperate, I'd probably look at like just
(56:12):
a setup man who happens to be available. And you know,
I mean there's better ones obviously than others, like Jason
Adam is better than you know, Dennis Santana. But I
would just take a flyer on a handcuff at this
point versus like trying to chase Rockies saves, like I
(56:33):
don't think it's worth it.
Speaker 1 (56:36):
Yeah, I agree, there's nothing good can come from chasing
Rockies saves, as as Seth Hulverson's era prooves.
Speaker 2 (56:47):
Uh the people some Waiver wire bats great.
Speaker 3 (56:51):
Okay. So I'm looking at the Seven Day Play Raider.
It looks like John Rave is on the top of it.
Huh boo, what I don't know, must.
Speaker 2 (56:59):
Be hot though.
Speaker 3 (57:01):
Isaac Collins is number two there, and as you know,
we went over him earlier in the show. I like
him in the uh. I like him for long term,
but short term he's been excellent. Ryan McMahon has been
really good for the Rockies. He's probably better when he's
in cores and versus outside of it. But whatever, Mike,
(57:22):
Mike Tuckman, Tachman, he's been good. He's been hot. Mickey
Moniac and we mentioned earlier, he's been good. Miguel Vargas
White Sox, first base, third base, outfield eligibility, he's been good. Uh.
Victor Caratini has been really good. And I want to
say he was hitting like third yesterday, yesterday being Sunday,
(57:45):
he was hitting somewhere in the top of the lineup,
and I was like, ohh Carotinie, what's going on there? Uh?
Sounded like Norm McDonald, Roqquick, Trent Grisham. Uh, he's been hot.
He's he's number ten on the Seven Day Player Raider
at least. David Frye random, I guess whatever. Taylor Treummel
(58:06):
had a good Sunday and has moved up on the
Seven Day Player Raider and Brett Baby. But yeah, there
isn't a lot of not a whole lot of information
in the Seven Day Player Raider as I do this
because of the All Star break, so there's only really
three games worth of information that we're going off of.
(58:28):
But yeah, Caleb Durbin, Matt Shaw has been hot, Joey Ortiz,
who I was about to call Hoey, that's weird. And
gian Carlos stan has been hot. So there's some names
for you.
Speaker 2 (58:43):
Yeah, that's some good names. Eric Gray, some pictures for you.
Speaker 1 (58:47):
I don't have a whole lot because it's kind of
a weird week still with the pictures resettling, but Dean
Kramer at Cleveland, Eric Lauer at Detroit, Ryan Nelson at Pittsburgh,
Edward Carrera versus Sandy Diego, Patrick Corbyn versus the athletics,
Jeffrey Springs out Houston, and.
Speaker 2 (59:03):
Land and Rupp at Atlanta.
Speaker 1 (59:06):
And I'm being honest, I don't absolutely love any of those,
but those are the best available in my leagues that
I could find. So that's what I'm I'm gonna let
you know. That's where I would go if I was
looking for streamers. If you have specific questions, you can
