Speaker 1 (00:04):
All right, welcome to Fast Break Breakfast NBA podcast. My
name is Keith Parish and I'm here once again with
my buddy through the miracle of computer phone.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
I'm here with Dave Defour. Dave, how are you doing.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
I'm playing Keith this week because I got sick for
the first time in Blake.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
I don't know two years were you around children? You
know what carriers of disease?
Speaker 4 (00:37):
You were well?
Speaker 3 (00:39):
Because I go to a rock climbing gym, you know,
so not only am I mean, I'm around people that
have kids at home.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
That whole wall is neurovirus.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
I mean, this gym doesn't have a ton of kids
in it, but they started doing like their winter you know, hey,
come be active camps.
Speaker 4 (00:57):
Yeah, and so there've been like ten or fifty kids. Yeah.
I think it's a homeschool group or something.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
But you know, those homeschool groups, home schoolers probably not
as illness because they have they haven't picked up all
the diseases of the filth of the public and you
know whatever, I'm actually recording this. I'm recording this right
now from a school. So if you're on YouTube, obviously
you see not in my normal background. I apologize for
the way it's lit. I apologize my breakfast in bed.
(01:23):
Apology is wearing the world's most boring button up shirt,
which is just what I do. Yeah, it's just there's
no color in the video right now whatsoever. But this
whole place, I think I've told you before, I've told
the listeners before. I wore the mask to this school,
just up until basically months ago, where I'm like, I
don't care that COVID is sort of over, even though
(01:44):
it's not over. I work in a school. It's disgusting,
it's disease everywhere. I'm just gonna keep her in the mask,
even if people look at me funny. This year, I'm like, whatever,
what do I have to live for? I'm just gonna
stop doing it. But now they're all talking about, like,
hey guys, this new virus. Apparently everybody's down with the
hand sanitizer doesn't do it? Make sure you wash your hands.
And then like I walk in a room and I
see a kid playing the piano I'm supposed to be playing,
(02:06):
and I'm like, who told you could touch that piano?
And now I'm like lees, I like so, But then
I'm like, now I'm just like, oh, I should be
wearing a mask. Who am I trying to be afraid
of being mocked by? Just there's so much disease everywhere.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
You should make a little spray bottle that it's like
bleach and water solution, get.
Speaker 4 (02:23):
Off the wipes. Just yeah, for the environment.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
Yeah, reading about some super pneumonia.
Speaker 4 (02:33):
Also, I'm a CDC, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
If it's super pneumonia where the CDC isn't allowed to
tell anyone about their finders anymore, it isn't a super pneumonia.
But I will tell you if you're a parent out there,
you're probably aware of this. If you have a school
age kid. There's this walking pneumonia that all kids are getting,
which is very mild, except and knocks your kid out
(02:55):
of school for like a full week, which isn't again
if you can stay home, I guess it's not horrible
if you work from home. Not horrible because like my
kid had it fever seven straight days. I mean, you
can't send the kid to school, but she felt fine basically,
so it's like a mild symptom. We have a fever
the whole time, so that ends fast. Well, we call
it outbreak breakout that's what we call it. That's your outbreak,
(03:18):
breakout opening, and we're gonna jump right past breakfast. Some
bad apologies because we have a short time frame to
record this show. I guess let's start big picture, Dave.
We're forced to talk about I like talking about transactions,
but we're forced to talk about Daron Fox of the
Sacramento Kings, who are tied for the second best record
(03:39):
in the NBA over the past fifteen games. Darren Fox
once out. Apparently Clutch has named the intended destination. Is
it truly, Dave? The San Antonio Spurs are people forcing
their way out of okay situations to go play for
the Spurs. Is this where we are?
Speaker 3 (03:58):
I mean, I think Daron Fox definitely is. That makes
so much sense. I mean, it's gonna be perfect if
that happens. Look, Darren Fox probably has the realization that
he's not a number one like one ah, maybe he
can be a one B to someone.
Speaker 4 (04:15):
And if you think about.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
Wemby and some of the offensive limitations he's got right now, Yah,
for the time being, man, dearon Fox would actually kind
of help cover some of those up and enhance Wemby
quite a bit.
Speaker 4 (04:29):
So I get the fit completely.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
Look again, I totally understand wanted to go play with
a guy who's going to be one of, if not
the greatest player to ever play, just like if everything
works out right.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
So I totally understand that.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
It's it's rare that we see a guy with dearon
Fox's status doing something like this, right Like usually it's like,
I mean, you know, Kevin Love wants to go play
with Lebron or Chris Bosh. Yeah, but Darren Fox, I
feel like, is a little bit more highly regarded than
at that time.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
You just said Chris Bosh. Chris Bosh when he left
the Raptors to join the Heat, I think was a
better player league wide. Daron Fox is right now, I mean,
Jarry Fox, we don't I don't do rankings. What are
we talking, boll Park in the same back top forty.
He's not a top twenty player.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
No, no, no, but he's probably top thirty. I'm just throwing
him in a If he's your number.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
Two, you can maybe get somewhere if the rest of
the roster is great and you have an absolute alpha,
and maybe when Benyama's that If this is true, if
we're making a lot of leaps here if it truly
is the Spurs, Why would the Spurs do this because
you're already you're okay, I mean you're here, you're playing bound,
(05:44):
but like you have all your own picks. What's the rush? Yeah,
if dear Fox wants to come here in a year
and a half, great, why don't we do that and
still have all our draft picks?
Speaker 3 (05:55):
I mean I think that they have all the leverage,
right yeah, because they're also not it's not like they're
in a push to the to a title. They're not
even really in a playoff push like they're in a
push to the play and.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
If they play with which is also you know who knows.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
Yeah, So even the value of getting him now, is
it really worth it?
Speaker 4 (06:13):
Right?
Speaker 3 (06:14):
Like for them, Like, why not just play it out,
wait till the summer because the price will go down.
So uh, even this summer, the trade price will go
down because you're only getting one full season.
Speaker 4 (06:23):
So I don't I don't know why san Antonio.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
Would be in any rush outside of trying to get
him in house if you want him, because if someone
else gets him, they are the front runners to sign
him to an extension. So if deeron Fox is a
guy that you want to bring in. Bringing him in
now via trade just that takes out the guess work. Hey,
we don't have to hope that he's gonna kick the
can to free agency and won't take an extension with
(06:49):
this next team. But like, if he goes to a
good spot, I mean, like if he goes to the Clippers,
he'll sign an extension. Yeah, if you know a couple
of the other teams that were mentioned, what was it.
Speaker 2 (06:59):
It's like the net where the nets the nets expressed
somehow expressed interest through them.
Speaker 3 (07:03):
Well, but the nets have been a lot of people
have been thinking about the summer of twenty twenty.
Speaker 4 (07:07):
Six, and I actually I have to give Clutch a.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
Little bit of credit here for getting Deer and Fox
out ahead of twenty twenty six. Sure, to be honest
with you, right, like that's gonna be a big free
agency summer. There's gonna be a lot of guys getting
moved I think next year. So you know, in a
lot of ways, maybe the Kings are even being smart
by dodging some of that stuff where they do probably
have I think he's the most attractive asset that's available
(07:32):
on the market right, like, unless there's a high lottery pick,
the term.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
Available is the important caveat right to that exactly, I'm
I'm of a couple of minds here, I mean one.
I feel like I'm forced to make a joke. Anytime
you can lock down the seventh best point guard in
the NBA, you have to, you know, like you have
to moveow your stuff. I don't man, maybe he's fit,
I'm not sure, but like, uh, it's weird for the
nets where like I get it, Okay, you're gonna have
(07:57):
cap space, you want to have a good player, but
also it literally destroys your flag for flag this season
unless you get a mind of lowry market and plan
like like, hey, I'm just not going to play this year.
You didn't mention the Heat. To me, it makes a
little bit more sense for the Heat and a win.
Now if they could work out, well, here's what, like,
(08:18):
would you just trade Tyler Hero and some stuff for
darreon Fox if you're the Heat?
Speaker 4 (08:23):
Oh, if I'm the Heat? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (08:25):
And would that be something where Jimmy Butler finds a
rejuvenation or no, Jimmy's out, Okay, I.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
Think Jimmy's out. Well, it's not even Jimmy needing a rejuvenation.
They don't want to give Jimmy a contract.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
Right that that part of it's hard. Maybe you could
be like Jimmy, play play the rest of the year
with Daren and then you know, going to the offseason.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
He's so Jimmy Butler is up against the the the
thirty eight rule, right, the thirty eight rules. So for him,
he needs to opt out and sign his last big
contract this summer. But if he has to stay there
and opt in to potentially move somewhere else, he's gonna lose.
Speaker 4 (09:01):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
I looked at the numbers and it's I think it's
like one hundred million dollars maybe more uh in career
earnings if he doesn't get this pulled off.
Speaker 4 (09:09):
So that's his impetus, right. It has nothing to do
with basketball. Now.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
The one thing about deeron Fox and his force out
based on Clutch or his reported rumored force out, it
is interesting the Lakers haven't been mentioned at all. Are
they just they're just out?
Speaker 4 (09:26):
They were mentioned. I want to go to the Lake.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
He doesn't want to. Yeah, And it does seem like, listen,
I don't I'm not an insider with the King's Lakers rivalry,
but it's a famous rivalry, and there comes a point
of spite, I feel like in your sports fandom, in
your life, where you're just like, you know what if
I'm a King, if I'm you know, if I'm the Kings,
(09:48):
I'm like, no, I'm sorry, I would rather burn my
house down than you.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
So apparently he just built a house in Houston. So Houston,
san Antonio.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
He's got his he got a Texas background, He's from Texas,
Is that right?
Speaker 4 (10:02):
Yeah, I guess something like that.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
Yeah, there's too many guys. Uh, So you know, I
think being close to there makes some sense. I mean,
san Antonio makes a ton of sense for him. If
he somehow was the point guard of the Houston Rockets,
I think that would make a lot of sense.
Speaker 4 (10:18):
Play. I love that Houston is just standing pat.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
But Houston makes more sense generally to me because they
seem like they're maybe on the precipice and right, they
obviously have had an amazing couple of weeks, and Amen
Thompson has ascended. He's become Scottie Pippen senior. And I'm
so used to say Scotty Pippen junior. He's become the
real Scottie Pippen. And with them this close that you're like, okay,
(10:44):
he's still on an alpha. And I still feel like
if you look at the Rockets and like competing for
a title this year and again the wins over the
Caves and the Celtics of late, you think, all right,
that the two seed in the West. If you've got
a deeron Fox, but you still have the alpha alpha,
you still don't have a traditional even a Jason Tatum
level player where you can surround with like a but
(11:06):
we have a bunch of one be's.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
That's what Rocket the Rockets need.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
But I feel like, so even in that scenario, I
don't consider I might be wrong here. I don't consider
Jaron Fox to be like keeping Jalen Brown level, where
I'm like, if Jason Tatum's like a one, he's like
a one a prime. It's you know, he's not quite
a Tietan MVP guy. But for the Rockets, it's all
like you have just a bunch of second bananas, And
(11:29):
I don't know if that makes him good enough. Again,
then the.
Speaker 4 (11:31):
Fox would be the king of the second bananas.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
I mean like, but I think he would be He
would be the best player on the Rockets if he
went there, and he would offer a lot of clarity
for them, especially the end of games, like they fall
apart in fourth quarters because I think they don't have
a guy who who everything has to run through like
Shingoon is not as he's actually like some of his
some of his issues become glaring in fourth quarters when
(11:55):
he's trying to isolate and go one on one.
Speaker 4 (11:57):
But part of that is the Rockets offense.
Speaker 3 (11:59):
But part of it is they don't have a guy
liked Aaron Fox who's like, give me.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
The ball, Jabbari Smith plus many first rounds. So if
you did so, I feel like the I feel like
the Rockets are not going to pull the plug on
that not their front off.
Speaker 4 (12:17):
They're not going to make a move.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
I don't think I'm just saying, all right, float this one.
They have multiple first round picks. If you gave them
a good first round pick and Jabari Smith junior, like
that's it's pretty good and then at.
Speaker 4 (12:30):
Least think about it.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
The question for me is, if you're the Rockets and
like you said, maybe they're not interested, do you keep
Fred Van Vliet or do you use Fred van Vliet
as the matching salary because Fred Vliet's a good ball play. Yeah,
and you could include you can include Dylan Brooks, you
can include they got the salaries, Jason Taate, right, Steven
Adams Rockets salary, all of these guys.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
That you're naming Keith, Like I have I've watched I mean,
I'll watch a lot of games, as everybody does, and
I have watched so many Houston Rockets games because their
games are amazing. They're a lot but they have like
all of their guys are low key important to the team.
Like this is a weird thing to say. Jayshon Tate
(13:12):
is playing center minutes for them at the end of
games sometimes and and like actually crushing so like they
don't win the game last night against Atlanta if Jayshon
Tate isn't out there doing stuff.
Speaker 4 (13:25):
So I get, like, I.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
Totally understand this team being kind of in love with
their guys a little bit and wanting to see this
out for the year.
Speaker 4 (13:32):
I actually kind of I applaud the patients. You know,
they have dudes.
Speaker 3 (13:37):
Jalen Green could be dearon Fox interesting, Like it's not
out of.
Speaker 4 (13:41):
The realm of possibility to me.
Speaker 3 (13:43):
Then he becomes that level of player and he defends
so like he's got some some potential, and you know,
they sign him to that extension. That's kind of it's
funny to call it an extension that's multiple years make good,
but it was like a good deal for Houston to
see what they've got and also allows him to get
out early.
Speaker 4 (13:59):
But know, I just don't know, like is it enough
of an.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
Upgrade from what they already have and maybe not, but
I like that that they're seeing it out. Is there
is there a team that wasn't mentioned that, like dearon
Fox fits for for you, because I've got one.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
I mean I always when we talk about guards who
can score, who are any good? I think about the
Orlando Orlando Magic.
Speaker 4 (14:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
Yeah, Like there's such a they finally they finally trailed off,
like we haven't done, we haven't recorded together in a
few weeks. I did a solo show last week. There
was a Patreon only episode if you did not know,
a couple of weeks ago. But in the time we
haven't talked. They finally got Paalo back, Franz Bogger's come back.
Goga just played the other day, but like they finally
gave up the ghost a little bit as far as
(14:42):
we don't have jalen zones. But like they also sugs
has been out, but they they finally have struggled enough,
but like they still organizationally are so solid and like
they're so good and have so much talent. Where that's one.
It's why we thought they would make a run at
Malik Monk over the summer. And so that's one where yes,
if you could get dearon Fox to the Magic, does
(15:02):
he have a home in Orlando? Apparently not deeron Fox.
Speaker 3 (15:06):
I mean it's another state without income tax, but the
property tax that.
Speaker 4 (15:09):
Holds, that holds.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
Listen as someone who lives in a state without an
it's the sales tack and property tax.
Speaker 4 (15:16):
Sales tax, crazy guys.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
Yeah, I've had this.
Speaker 3 (15:19):
Conversation since I moved to California, and it's like, man,
I don't even buy gas.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
I am getting murdered on property tax over here. The
uh no, I don't. The Magic are also a team
where it just comes down to acquisition costs if you
don't have to send out that much stuff. And that's
why I do think the Rockets win is interesting, it
makes sense. Would you get ups Here's here's this is
how I do fantasy basketball too, Dave. If I'm trying
(15:44):
to bring in a good player, I don't want to
lose any of my good players either, Like what's the
point what's the point of spending what's the point of
spending first round draft picks? And Jalen Suggs, who's a
great possible like you know, all defense, first team tech guard.
I know I want to keep him and bring in
the guy who's not as good a defense, you know,
So like I I want to keep everything. I don't
(16:05):
know if the magic. I think patience for the magic
makes sense. I think patients for the Rockets, like you said,
makes sense, but it becomes tantalizing if it isn't maybe
that expensive or something.
Speaker 4 (16:15):
Also, it's the parody thing is real. It is real.
And if you're the.
Speaker 3 (16:20):
Rockets right now, I mean they have they have really
got some huge wins this season.
Speaker 4 (16:25):
I think that they probably have the Grizzlies number. I'm
sorry to tell you that, Keith, I think tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (16:30):
So let's know, let's let's sorry to finish your thought.
Then let's just talk about the Rockets if.
Speaker 3 (16:34):
You're them and you're looking around and you're saying, Okay, look,
nobody's perfect. Nobody including us OKC is not perfect. They're
running away with the regular season, not perfect. Anybody can
be beat. It's all going to be, you know, the
styles of the fight that are going to make the
matchups when we get to the playoffs. I firmly believe that,
like I think that they're teams that Oklahoma City absolutely
(16:56):
needs to avoid. I think the Houston Rockets could surprise
the people and be in the Western Finals. And so
if you're in that position, let's say they feel the
same way as me. They want to see what they do, right, man,
I can totally understand talking yourself into hey, Daron Fox
might be just good enough, just more solid enough, doesn't
(17:16):
turn the ball over enough that he could get us
over the hump and maybe we win five extra possessions
And that's the difference between making it to the finals
and I I see it.
Speaker 2 (17:26):
Yeah, let's talk about the Rockets like the Rockets. Of course,
you know, Amn Thompson getting a lot of credit since
he became the full time starter with Brice Smith Junior's injury,
They've been crushing people just in January the Rockets. All right,
maybe you didn't believe in the Rockets until this week,
but like maybe you didn't believe them when they beat
the Grizzlies in back to back games and then blew
(17:47):
out the Nuggets the game after that, But then this
week to beat the Cavaliers in back to back games,
then to go on the road and beat the Rockets. Luckily,
they did not have a let down. They almost let
it slip away the Hawks. But like they've been crushing
the best, not crushing, they've been beating the best teams
in the NBA, by the way, this month, I mean,
(18:10):
I'm in Thompson averaging nineteen points, eleven rebounds, four assists,
two and a half steals, and a block per game.
So like they've gotten all the Marquee victories. Why not? Sorry,
go back to Jared Fox. Why not? Dylan Brooks is
the matching salary. It's his ten three pointers against the
Celtic Kings. You can't you can't lose it.
Speaker 3 (18:27):
You can't lose Like, honestly, he's been too good and
too important for them.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
I feel like, I feel like if you include that
ten made threes against the Celtics, Dylan is shooting thirty
percent on threes in the past in the past three weeks.
I love Dylan Brooks. We talked about this over on
the Athletic I was I was dying that I had
to watch the Grizzlies get humiliated by the Knicks. I'm
(18:54):
watching Ja Morand, supposedly one of the most entertaining players
in the league, salk his way through minus forty one. Meanwhile,
the electric Dylan Brooks on the other channel was making
ten three pointers. I here's what I say. I do
actually think that they could keep Fred van Vliet, use
Dylan Brooks, maybe Steven Adams, maybe another player for the
(19:17):
matching salary, and then bring in Darren Fox and like,
I think you play Darren Fox. Fred van Vleet can
guard dudes, he can guard big Yeah, choose and then
like a minuet the three or the four or whatever,
like Jalen Green is in there. Like, I think they
could be great. But anyways, even they don't. Yeah, the
Rockets right now doing something pretty special. Is there more
you want to say on them? No?
Speaker 3 (19:37):
I mean, listen, I literally have basically turned the Daily
into The Rockets Show because they've just been so much fun.
Speaker 4 (19:44):
I mean, every game they play in is entertaining and compelling. Yeah,
you know, there's there's a certain amount.
Speaker 3 (19:49):
Of run through a brick wall attitude that the whole
team has, and I love that, you know, I don't.
I don't necessarily love that they're always looking to fight,
but I appreciate that they're ready to fight when fight comes,
and I think that that's also attitude to have for
a basketball team.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
They are walking this tightrope of making massive mental mistakes
down the stretch. You had Dylan Brooks maybe possibly flirting
with a flagrant or a technical and the final seconds
winning against against Trey Young. You had the Tari E's
in three shot foul against the Cavaliers. Then Darius Garland
blows that, I'll say it blows that game. He's a
(20:26):
plus ninety percent free throw shooter. Missus, did he miss
four or five free throws in the game?
Speaker 4 (20:32):
He was two of seven, including.
Speaker 2 (20:33):
The two the two clutch free throws. So Dylan made
ten three pointers. There actually have been another handful of
guys making remarkable statistical achievements around the number ten. Uh,
let's get to that. Actually right after this short break,
all right, Dave you know, I love stats. I love
Dylan Brooks making ten three pointers, but a couple of
(20:54):
other numbers have caught my eye since we last podcasted together.
One of them, Trey Young had eleven turnovers in the game,
So that's pretty impressive. Also, Trey Young broke his streak
of two hundred and two consecutive games having at least
five assists. This was all on a loss to the Raptors. Raptors, Yeah,
(21:17):
showing some signs of life. We appreciate that you're now
bad with honor. Congratulations the uh In that game, Trey
Young four assists, eleven turnovers. By the way, we should
mention the Hawks having a rough go of it. They've
now lost Jalen Johnson for the season. They do not
(21:37):
control their draft pick thanks to the Dejonte Murray trade,
one of the Johnte Murray trades. But the Hawks are
struggling anyways. Trey Young eleven turnovers, that's cool. But you
know what's cooler, Dave Cad Cunningham being the first player ever,
at least since we have stats, the first player Dave
(21:57):
since nineteen eighty three, the only player since nineteen eighty three. Day,
you don't even know this. I can tell by your face.
Speaker 4 (22:03):
No, I didn't know this.
Speaker 2 (22:05):
Here's the thing, here's how I consume basketball now, Dave.
It is not as public or communal as it used
to be. Sometimes in my life it's kind of in
a bubble. I watched the NBA every night. Every now
and then my wife's reading on her kindle. I'm like, hey,
do you see that play? That's funny? Check this out.
And she's like, that's great, honey, And but like there's
(22:25):
there's news. Sometimes I missed totally. Oh h there was
that Colin sexon game he had ten turnovers. I didn't
find out for weeks later.
Speaker 4 (22:32):
I'm gonna tell you something.
Speaker 2 (22:33):
I'm gonna tell you something that's never happened before. In
it's not on Basketball Reference. It happened for the very
first time a week ago. I've heard nothing about it.
I don't know if they're talking about on ESPN. I
don't know if it's been covered in the New York Times.
Kate Cunningham became the first player ever to have ten
turnovers in consecutive games.
Speaker 4 (22:53):
Missed it.
Speaker 2 (22:54):
No one talked about it.
Speaker 4 (22:55):
I talked about the turnovers, but I missed the back
to back game.
Speaker 2 (22:58):
I mean maybe jumping too. Folks did it back in
the forties or fifties or whatever.
Speaker 4 (23:02):
I mean, those guys weren't really dribbling a lot.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
They really weren't. By the way, I'm coaching a seven
year old basketball team. We're breaking out the no dribble practice.
We're basically playing it's actually it's it's frankly ultimate frisbee.
You know, like you can't run with the ball, you
have a pants, great, but we just gotta pass it.
Speaker 4 (23:19):
No.
Speaker 2 (23:19):
Actually, I'm reading this book on the ancient on I
call it Ancient Basketball on the Originators of the jump shot,
reading about this guy, Whitey Scooge. But anyways, the Basketball
Reference database only has turnover stats complete turnover stats back
to eighty three eighty four, Caid Cunningham became the first
player with ten turnab making history in consecutive games. But
(23:42):
is it history if no one even talks about it,
I mean, so it upsets me.
Speaker 3 (23:47):
Yeah, he's at the top of the list. Yeah, most
back to back double digit turnover games.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
But Cad and the Pistons at least they are they
have a thing going on. And also it's like we
should do a victory lap day. You should do a
victory lap. We haven't. Oh yeah, are you ready? Yeah,
let's run. Yeah, let's run the highlight package. I'm getting
the producer. We got that b roll of Tobias Harris.
Let's do a victory lap for Tobias Harris being better
(24:13):
than Paul George go Dave.
Speaker 3 (24:17):
Professional basketball player. Tobias Harris shows up, shows up to
work every night, to work. Hey, you know, el, who
else has been awesome this year? Harrison Barnes shows up
to work, showing up to work, matters man, how's that
working out, Philly?
Speaker 2 (24:32):
Harrison Barnes cannot be the matching salary and the deer
in fox Strade.
Speaker 3 (24:36):
Actually, uh, there is a mechanism by which the Pistons
could wind up getting John Hollinger wrote about it, and okay,
everybody knows he's the guy, but the Presidents could wind
up taking Harrison Barnes and getting another professional basketball for
Tim Hardaway Junior. Is that's somehow, somehow facilitate a trap.
Speaker 4 (24:56):
It's the whole thing.
Speaker 2 (24:56):
I've even seen people float like the Pistons are being
pretty good, and like, as a Grizzlies podcaster, I'm trying
to send Marcus Smart anywhere, And I'm like, what about
Marcus Smart for just expiring Tim Harve.
Speaker 4 (25:05):
Doesn't he feel like he's gonna be a pisted in itself?
Speaker 2 (25:07):
It feels like, at least I've always said, an Eastern
Conference team who remembers Marcus Smart as your best Yeah? Yeah,
but like even talking about like Jimmy Butler trades, like
what if the Pistons, It's like, I mean, the Pistons
have a thing, and maybe you don't want to short
circuit it, but like they have professionals who show up.
Tim Hartray Junior and Tobias Harris show up. Yeah, you
were pointing out, So Tobias compared to Paul George this
(25:30):
year Sixers got in the Paul George business. By the
Paul George hurt his finger again, you know, just bad luck.
It seems like, yeah, yeah, but Paul George is not
getting to the line this year. And Tobias Harris, you know,
like more wins for Tobias obviously more games played, but
like scoring everything. Like Tobias Harris is like the player
you'd rather have right now.
Speaker 3 (25:49):
Seems like Billy would be better today if they had
Tobias Harris on the roster all year rather than Paul George.
They would just be better, They would have more wins,
they would be a more solid team without Embiid. I mean,
the thing is, man, I actually think availability is going
to be way more valuable in this new CBA, especially
with the team building restrictions.
Speaker 4 (26:12):
I just can't.
Speaker 3 (26:13):
I just can't imagine we're gonna see a league where
guys are consistently playing fifty five sixty games a year
and keeping huge money. That's gonna be Luka Doncic level
or above. And I guess Embiid is there.
Speaker 2 (26:26):
But so how Embiid missed his four hundredth game of
his career. But like, obviously he's a guy, it's a
special circumstance. He was someone they everyone knew come in broken,
he came in with severe injury concerns, and you know,
he obviously was league MVP, and when he's available to go,
he's incredible. But they're dealing with that. But everyone else
you talk about, I think it starts becoming like a
(26:49):
greater thing where it's like, can I depend on this
guy playing like you.
Speaker 3 (26:52):
Know, gotta be like Kawhi Leonard, Joel Embiid or Luka Doncic.
That's it, Like you have to be a guy who
can go win a title.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
It's become at a subject for me as a Grizzly podcaster,
perhaps one of the most pre eminent Christmas podcaster. It's like,
what about John Morant. It's like John Rank can't play
Joam Rank like can't play six games in a row, right,
And it's like, what do we like? So you think about,
all right, the postseason. There's no back to back, so
hopefully you can just manage everything to get there. But
(27:19):
I don't know. There's there's a value for the Tobias
Harris who takes care of his body by never taking
a charge. Good job, Tobias, no reason to risk injury.
It's better for you show up. Also, I don't mean
to mention fantasy basketball twice in the same show. This
is my fantasy basketball strategy. I want to pass because
he played, he plays basketball games like I can't have
(27:42):
a lowry Markinen maybe sitting out games.
Speaker 4 (27:45):
By the way, let me ask you, let me ask
you about EMBID before we move. Okay, I've been thinking
about EMBIID as like a sunk cost.
Speaker 3 (27:52):
Okay, Like what are our expectations of Joel Embiid for
the for like the remainder of whatever his career looks like, right.
Speaker 2 (27:59):
The remainder two hundred and fifty million dollars on his contract.
Speaker 4 (28:02):
Right, Like, is he like is he playing?
Speaker 3 (28:06):
Like?
Speaker 4 (28:06):
Is it? What's the incentive to?
Speaker 2 (28:07):
I think it's I think it's I think you're looking
at I think your your expectation is Kawhi Leonard the
last three seasons, and you hope you're healthy company, Like,
like Kawhi Leonard just finally kicked it up past twenty
four minutes. Kilo awesome.
Speaker 4 (28:19):
He's great.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
He's so good at basketball, even at this limited like
it feels like, I don't know, seventy percent athleticism from
what we're used to from him.
Speaker 3 (28:28):
I think he's also I will say this, I've seen
so much Kawhi Leonard in my life that he and
and even having the surgery last year and coming back, right,
he looks like he's kind of taking it easy.
Speaker 2 (28:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (28:41):
I don't know if you notice, Like especially on some
of the dribble drive stuff, like he's really like being methodical.
Speaker 4 (28:47):
It's almost like he's like working stuff out.
Speaker 2 (28:49):
You know, there's a level I think there's a level
of comfort, Yeah, where you understand that no one's stopping
my move right, I don't actually have to go well, you.
Speaker 4 (29:01):
Know, yeah, he's got that all strong left arm.
Speaker 2 (29:03):
I'm with you. That's where I say, like he's moving.
Maybe it also maybe it's deceptive. Maybe it's that Eric
Dickerson running back speed. He's just jogging. Oh, he's fashion.
Speaker 1 (29:11):
No.
Speaker 2 (29:12):
Kawhi made an incredible reverse layup a couple of games ago,
and then he tried maybe the hardest reverse lamp I've
ever seen. I think it was in the most recent game.
He missed it, but it was just like a he's
just trying stuff out. I think Kawhi Leonard is the
example for what you're hoping for from Embeid, which I
don't know if it's it's a great place to be. Oh,
(29:35):
I was gonna talk about it.
Speaker 3 (29:36):
See Joel Embi doing handstands, which, yeah, that's a good
sign man like people.
Speaker 4 (29:40):
I saw that. It was like a little bit controversial.
Oh he's playing around.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
No, that's good. That means he probably feels okay like
or at least he's getting back to health. I'd like
to see that guy play.
Speaker 2 (29:49):
I remember what I wanted to say. We were talking
about Tobias Harris, we're talking about guys who maybe take
it easy. Jeremy Grant came to mind. Jeremy Grant's been
a punching bag for a while on a player. He
hasn't played in April. What in four years? He hasn't
played game in April because he's always shut down. The
Trailblazers right now have a pulse. The Trailblazers are a
fun team. Scoot Henderson getting a lot of attention for
(30:09):
his innergetic play, a Rising Stars snub. I don't want
to talk about in a second too many Kamaras is
a good, good ball player. But Jeremy Krant has been
a punching bag for guys like me with our podcasts
talking about players who just keep catching them checks.
Speaker 3 (30:25):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
The Trailblazers have actually won seven of the last nine
games that Jeremy Grant plays in. Yeah, they're legit.
Speaker 4 (30:32):
He also he got hurt last night.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
He did, he left the game. Yeah, so hopefully he's okay.
But like the Trailblazers have something going on. Actually, yeah,
I want to talk about the Rising Stars game.
Speaker 4 (30:41):
Can we talk about Denny Advia playing great too. Uh.
This guy what he's been doing up there this year.
Speaker 3 (30:47):
I mean their recent stretch of really like not just
respectable basketball.
Speaker 4 (30:53):
Good basketball.
Speaker 2 (30:54):
Huh.
Speaker 3 (30:55):
Denny Avdia with the ball in his hands, just making
stuff happen and then letting it flow from three.
Speaker 4 (31:02):
That's a game changer. They've got. They've got And we
said this before the year.
Speaker 3 (31:06):
Portland's a team that I understand that their organization is
trying to tank, but they have so many guys that
they're gonna have to be creative about how they take
And obviously they've done a pretty good job of being
creative at tanking. But man, they have some guys like
DeAndre Ayden even every now and then, like last night
shows you stuff and it's like, man, if it was
nineteen eighty eight, this guy would be one of the
(31:27):
ten best players in the league.
Speaker 2 (31:28):
Yeah, speaking of so Obdia, that actually I think can
maybe it can slightly inform our Darren Fox discussion because
the Trailblazers went into acquisition mode because they felt the
price was okay. They're willing to trade that lottery pick
that became Bub Carrington because Obdia was a guy they
had coveted, and they said, that's just a good ballplayer.
(31:50):
I want to have that guy on my team, even
though we're not gonna be good anytime soon. Maybe that
could inform a team like the Nets, who are like,
you know what, let's just get Darren Fox.
Speaker 4 (32:00):
Now.
Speaker 2 (32:01):
Yeah, the Trailblazers have been pretty good. And actually I
am I am outraged that Timmany Kamara is not named
to the Rising Stars roster. So Timney Kamara easily better
than I would say than a handle of these guys.
So the Rising Stars challenge, they've gone back to sophomores
versus rookies they had the past couple of years because
the world versus us was just it was getting weird.
(32:23):
Bad players were getting included the sophomore team. It's not
like outrageously, you know, it's not horrible. They named like
Wimby's on it. He's gonna be an All Star, So
there's gonna be a spot there a men Thompson made it.
Is he gonna be All Star? Dave? I don't think so.
Speaker 4 (32:37):
It's too late. I don't think so. But how's he
got in a dunk contest?
Speaker 3 (32:41):
Keith?
Speaker 2 (32:42):
There's no there's no glory in the dunk contest a menu.
Derek Lively's on it. He's hurt, so that's a replacement.
So Toimani, Kamara should be named a replacement. But like
Brandon Miller's on it, Grady Dick's on it, all those guys,
I'm cool with.
Speaker 4 (32:57):
The season, so you know, yeah, yeah, there's all all
these guys.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
They're gonna get sub But then like all right, Grady Dick, Okay,
he scores points. But like Tomaty, Kamara is better than
Grady Dick. He is Kyate George, please get out of here.
Like Kiata George Art. He plays a ton of minutes.
He has played in six wins in like four thousand minutes.
I just made that minute number up.
Speaker 4 (33:17):
Is anybody watching Portland?
Speaker 2 (33:19):
Like maybe not so? Like Scoot made it okay, Scoot good.
Scoot also has that high draft pedigree. He's a known quantity,
like there's there is some name recognition involved in this stuff.
We're making the entertainment product. Pick people, you know, which
also is why I'm surprised that like Donovan Klingon didn't
make the rookie team, but Cooler Bally made it. Trace
Jackson Davis made it okay, you like Trace Jackson Davis,
(33:41):
but Tray Saxon Davis over Tomani Kamara.
Speaker 4 (33:44):
That's dumb, honestly.
Speaker 3 (33:45):
Not having Klinging and Edie like they clinging in there,
but I need to see Clinging and Edie play together.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
Also finishing the sophomore squad. Cason Wallace good doing, playing
in minutes, playing great defense for an amazing team. Uh Hi,
may Hawk has made it. I'm no sorry why he's
not a horror He's I mean, I don't want to say
horrible year. He's barely used. Including him over like Anthony
Black didn't make it. I think Anthony Black being he's
been fun. Hawk has over Black is dumb. To me.
(34:17):
Hawk has over Kamara an absolutely outrage the Rookie Day,
khalil Ware make it so, khlil Ware, this is interesting.
So khlil Ware going to so that was just the
sophomores I read the rookies, Dave. Khlil Ware did not
make it. Kohlil Ware is by far the favorite, the
betting favorite to win Rookie of the Year, Dave. This
(34:38):
also offends me. Are you not watching basketball?
Speaker 4 (34:41):
Well?
Speaker 2 (34:41):
Klilaware has played like eight games.
Speaker 3 (34:44):
I think Keith, I think you may have just stumbled
onto something. Yeah, it's why people are constantly talking about
stuff that's not the fun games that that we're watching.
Speaker 4 (34:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
I can't believe that this season has has been overrun
by the punditry complaining about stuff when the basketball games
have been this much fun but they're not watching. That's
why they don't know that Timai Kamara is awesome. That's
why they don't know that khalil Ware looks like you know,
uh shorter Wenby Sometimes.
Speaker 2 (35:12):
I mean, hey, Colil, I don't want to I don't
want to discount khlil Ware looking great. I'm gonna carry
some people to fantasy basketball championship, that's right. I would
go for a third time. No khalil Ware. All right,
So you finally got he finally got some burn and
he played some big twenty and ten games. I understand
if you say, listen, he's gonna play the rest of
the year, and it makes sense for him to be
the rookie of the year if you project it out.
(35:32):
But like Jalen Wells has started on a top five
or six team in the NBA all year, and he's
played heavy minutes, and like Zach Edy, also starts on
that same team. Like Steph Castle's played some great basketball
this year already. Alex Sars has really improved. So like
I'm it's not that he's just a favorite, he's like
a prohibited favorite where it's like just does Vegas know
(35:56):
that he's just gonna get like thirtys.
Speaker 4 (35:57):
Like Jared McCain, Remember Jared mcain, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (35:59):
Jared McCain games and it was m Jared McCain was
named to the Rising Stars Game. It's just a bit
of paperwork for the Basketball Reference page. But of course
he'll be replaced. He's out for the season. So the
guys who made it, Jay the Wells, Zachie E, Steph Castle,
Jared McCain, Alex Sar, Eves Missy, all of these are great.
Tristan da Silva, good job, Dalton Connect he's fourth and
(36:20):
scoring him on rookies, good reesa Shay Good, Bob Carrington, Okay,
he plays a lot that I don't really think any
of these are big snubs. I do like khalil Ware.
I think it's just funny that he didn't make it
as the betting favorite for Rookie of the Year. I
think Donovan Clean probably deserves to make it in. But honestly,
(36:41):
picking who I would take out is a little bit difficult,
and so that is where I'm more sympathetic. I would
probably put Cleaning in over Carrington just because I think clinging.
I mean, he's third among rookies and blocks, but also
Caryton has played a ton of minutes and he was
a lottery pick, and you give the Wizards some representation there.
I don't think anyone else snubbed. Sorry made it, Sar
(37:05):
made it. Yeah, I don't like Sorry Ryan, Ryan Dunn,
Modus Buzelis, Keishan George the only other rookies I think
who have maybe like an argument, but not a strong one,
mainly Dave. My outrage centers on Tumani Kamara is a
good basketball player, Like don't get like. I just think
like he's not a scorer, he doesn't put up stats,
and so it's I don't know he's an though that
(37:25):
kind of bugs me. He's a guy, which I might
be wrong. He's a guy who already projects to me
to be one of those fifth starter types and we're
talking conference final level team. Maybe he's a super sub,
but he seems like he plays the kind of basketball
which is rebounding and defense and being that spacing three
(37:48):
point threat. He's got good size. That's what everybody wants
to fill out their rosters. Yeah, yeah, anyway, but elite
at defense, elite, Dave, Let's take it a quick break
and then we will do a listener submitted question and
the awards segment of the program. Any questions, yes, are
(38:12):
you going to finish that croissant?
Speaker 4 (38:16):
Knock yourself out?
Speaker 2 (38:23):
It is now time croissant question now, all right, Dave.
Ryan Kirkpatrick wants to know what's the most degenerate thing
you can trade under the CBA. Your coach, he says,
Next follow up question, what's the most insane thing teams
(38:47):
should be allowed to trade?
Speaker 4 (38:51):
Mmm?
Speaker 3 (38:52):
I mean I think the coach is kind of an
insane thing to trade for, right, Yeah, I mean definitely,
trading a coach seems like the craziest thing.
Speaker 2 (39:04):
Could you trade your team's colors? You're branding colors?
Speaker 4 (39:09):
I don't think so.
Speaker 2 (39:11):
You say, listen, Jazz, I want to be purple. I
mean I want to I want to monopoly on purple.
Speaker 3 (39:16):
No, but if you want to be purple, you just
do what the NBA teams do. Now and just make
a purple jersey. Yeah, I mean how often Keith you turn.
Speaker 4 (39:22):
A game on?
Speaker 3 (39:23):
You flip a game on, You're like, oh, okay, who
the hell is playing? Why are both teams wearing shades
of blue?
Speaker 2 (39:30):
Are you? Would you do you know this?
Speaker 4 (39:32):
Dave?
Speaker 2 (39:32):
Are you allowed to trade for a front office member?
Are you allowed to get trade for a GM?
Speaker 4 (39:37):
I don't think so.
Speaker 3 (39:38):
It's like they wouldn't be covered by the CBA. I
don't understand the coaches being covered by like trades. That's
more of an organizational thing. I'm assuming the coach has
to sign off. I've never I don't know, I've never
thought about.
Speaker 2 (39:51):
It, to be honest with, could you trade for a
game ops? Like like, hey, the Bulls made that Benny
the bull popcorn thing kills me, kills me. I die
laughing every single time. I can't believe how funny and
popcorn on everybody the.
Speaker 4 (40:06):
Nuggets went that guy to be Rocky.
Speaker 2 (40:09):
I would try. If I were the Suns and I
got those three first round picks for my twenty twenty
thirty one pick, I would say, I'll trade you two
of those bad first rounders for being the Bulls antics,
just to improve it for audience life, for the just
for the bits, just for the bits. This is like
a magician buying, like yeah, yeah, this is this is
this is, this is buying jokes for this is the
(40:30):
stand up. But yeah, as a magician buying, buying.
Speaker 4 (40:34):
So the son's the gorilla, he's not He's not as
good as he used to be. You're saying he's washed.
Speaker 2 (40:38):
He's still still find it creative, peace, They've still find
it defensive. Can't can't can't handle something.
Speaker 4 (40:44):
Honestly, this may it makes no sense.
Speaker 2 (40:48):
Yeah, Benny, the bulls Elite, I love it.
Speaker 4 (40:50):
Uh. Whatever happened to to the to the human Hugo?
The hornet Hugo? Is this?
Speaker 2 (40:55):
Does he still exist?
Speaker 4 (40:56):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (40:59):
They've no, No, you're talking about basketball man.
Speaker 4 (41:01):
I'm talking about that.
Speaker 2 (41:03):
They had, they have, they have they have a giant
hornet that you know, the hornett. Are you talking about that?
The humanized blue guy?
Speaker 4 (41:11):
Is that basketball man?
Speaker 2 (41:12):
I don't know what he's called, but yeah, yeah, that
guy was on an NBA jam.
Speaker 4 (41:17):
Yeah yeah, that's that's literally the only memory because.
Speaker 2 (41:20):
I'm I'm talking about that. I'm talking about the Moneyball
scene where he's like and you fund our clubhouse. Uh
you know soft drink machine or whatever like that's yeah,
we need to tell me this.
Speaker 3 (41:30):
I don't so those are those are actually prohibited by
the CBA.
Speaker 2 (41:34):
I if I if I'm the Grizzlies, I'm like, listen,
y'all can have listen. We didn't we turned down Jake
Laravia's fourth year option. You can have Jake Laarravia if
you will fund our social media account to post more
Grizzies highlights during the game. We're down to We're I
think budget cuts have the Grizzlies down to posting like
three highlights per game. It's like, how how are you
not employing someone the.
Speaker 4 (41:55):
A team of one?
Speaker 2 (41:56):
How are you not employing people to just like post
Grizzlies the FanDuel FanDuel what is it? FanDuel TV, you know,
the regional sports network, Like they go a whole games
without posting on social media. It's like, what if we
could just if you could fund our social media account
for for two weeks?
Speaker 4 (42:16):
But yeah, I don't know. I do think the coach
being able to trade the coach is probably the.
Speaker 2 (42:21):
Probably the limit. Yeah, what about announcing teams? What if
you're the Warriors, and you're like, listen, is too good.
We know these guys suck. Like everyone hates everyone hates something, Okay,
everyone made something. What if we could get the Nets
broadcast team. What if we get the like the like
the Pelicans broadcast team, Like the Pelicans are a franchise.
(42:44):
What if what if the Pelicans been like, listen, we
need some extra help in the draft, Well, we'll trade
you our our our We'll trade you our TV squad.
Speaker 4 (42:51):
Everybody's trying to get Charlotte's announced team right like that.
Speaker 2 (42:55):
They're they're a bit they're fun and it's a bit
much much all the time.
Speaker 4 (42:59):
What about you. I really like Houston.
Speaker 2 (43:02):
I can't Houston.
Speaker 3 (43:03):
See. One of my favorite things about Houston is they
will celebrate the other players from the other team. They
will they will like if a if an opposing player,
I mean the Grizzlies constantly trying to dunk on people.
Speaker 4 (43:15):
The Houston announcers loved it. Yeah, loved it. I like that.
Speaker 2 (43:19):
All right, that's a that's a good question, Ryan. I'm
gonna keep thinking about it. Thank you the question.
Speaker 3 (43:24):
There must be some stuff that we that is just
like and again, I've talked to CBA before, but like
there's nothing that's implicit in the CBA that seems kind
of insane.
Speaker 2 (43:35):
Yeah, but it seems like he seems like eventually some
circumvention where it's like, oh, yeah, we'll give you an
Amazon Prime original, We'll give you a Prime video. Yeah. Anyway,
if you want your question to be answered on are
you have to be a Patreon supporter like Ryan to
do that, join up at patreon dot com slash fast
break Breakfast to be jown over there. Not only well
(43:55):
we may be answer your question, you get access to
an exclusive bonus episode every month. I dropped one a
couple of weeks ago. Also, you can join our listener
slash channel Patreon dot com slash pass break Breakfast. All right, Dave,
I have a question for you. Yeah, what's the question, Dave?
Speaker 4 (44:09):
Which Jersey retirement is worse for Vince Carter or worse
to us for Vincent than Vince car Raptors or the Nets.
Speaker 2 (44:19):
We've been through this, Yeah, we've been through I think
the Nets one is just strange because he did he
had like one good they had one good year with him.
The Raptors wouldn't make sense if you ignored the fact
that he quit on the entire franchise. I thought you
were gonna mention andre Yagodala getting a jersey retirement.
Speaker 3 (44:34):
That also is weird that that's what got me there
because I was also thinking about Vince doing his jersey
and then the thing.
Speaker 4 (44:41):
I don't know, it's odd.
Speaker 2 (44:42):
Yeah. Anyways, Dave, let's do the awards segment of the program.
This is the International Stackhouse of Pancakes Award, given to
the worst performance in a buck score. We have several
honorable mentions. We have bogg Dan Bogdanovic over nine. By
the way, bog Dan had a streak I think it
was one hundred and ten games where he'd made at
least one three pointer that was snapped. He went oh
for nine. Tyre s Martin won for ten, DeAndre hundred
(45:05):
two for fourteen, he count Hey George three for fifteen,
Steph Curry fourth for seventeen, Scotty Barnes six for twenty one,
Cade Cunningham nine for twenty six. I believe only four
turnovers in that game. Those were our honorable mentions. We
have three nominees this week. First one Tosan Uuama, a
player whose name I know how to pronounce because he
was on the Grizzlies last year. He's on the nets
(45:28):
if you don't know. In a loss to the Suns,
Toson was two for fifteen, six points, three rebounds, two assists,
two steals, three turnovers, one personal fouls. Next up, Pallo Bencaro.
In a loss to the Frisky Trailblazers. Pallo was one
for fourteen, had eight points, nine rebounds, six assists, two blocks,
(45:50):
five turnovers at one personal foul, and before putting in
his trade request, Dearon Fox in a loss to the
Nuggets for twenty four seventeen points, five rebounds, six assists,
one steal, one block, two turns, personal foul. So we
have toasan Uuama two for fifteen six points. Paalo Benkaro
(46:10):
one for fourteen, eight points, five turnovers, Jiaron Fox seven
for twenty four, fifteen points, six assists, Dave, this is
a thunderous Pollo victory. Do you agree?
Speaker 4 (46:21):
Oh? Yeah, okay, oh yeah? Was it was that the
Franz comeback game? I don't actually know, Okay, I can't remember.
Some of these magic games have run together.
Speaker 2 (46:32):
Just I did see the stats. I did see the
stat that it doesn't matter It doesn't matter if the
Magic have Pollo or Franz. What truly matters is if
they have go Go Batadze. The Magic this year only
one win without Gogo Batadze. You know why, Oh, David,
(46:53):
David's old winner, Keith. If you're on YouTube, he's holding
up his Georgian national team picture. Goga born Winner, my
top free agent target for the Grizzlies this offseason. Man,
it would have worked out great. I mean, he's been good,
don't get me wrong. Would have been a nice asset
to have. Anyways, congratulations Paula Bencaro on this week's International
(47:15):
Stackhouse a Pancakes Award. And with that, Dave, we got
to wrap things up. I'm on a time crunch. I
do want to recognize, by the way, Bronnie James he
played a little bit in the last game, and JJ
Reddick was like, yeah, he wasn't very good. It's like disaster,
why are you playing?
Speaker 3 (47:31):
Okay, the Lakers, why are you play? They go into
Philly in a game that they should win. Yeah, like
one of these games that they should just pick up.
And by the way, this is after almost blowing a
game to Charlotte and they played Bronnie in the first
quarter with a.
Speaker 4 (47:47):
Nine point lead and it was gone immediately. And I
mean listen, man, like, do you here's a point where
are you a basketball team or are you an exhibition?
Speaker 2 (47:57):
Do you know what Bronnie James's field goal percentage.
Speaker 4 (47:59):
Is years less than ten percent, it's six. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (48:04):
You remember that movie Black Sheep. It was like the
David Spade Chris Farley. Yeah, I think the you know,
sort of a Tommy Boy sequel in spirit. Yeah. The
one joke that I remember liking from it, maybe it
didn't hit me right when I was a teenager. The
one joke I liked was like a cop pulls him
over for speeding in the cups, like do you know
(48:25):
how fast you were going? And he's like, uh, seventy
and the cap goes six six.
Speaker 4 (48:33):
So that was that was easy.
Speaker 2 (48:36):
So Bronnie James, Bronnie James is one for sixteen for
the season, six percent. By the way, looking at some
bad shooting percentages, these are some guys also maybe you
could say rising star snubs just based on name, but
like Cody Williams, he's shooting thirty percent for the year.
To Jean Salon shooting thirty one percent. Reed, Shepherd doesn't
(48:56):
play shooting thirty one percent. That's why they got left out.
I'm gonna give a couple of shout outs though. Here's
some kudos to you. To end the show, Shay had
a fifty four point game. Ty Jerome went eight for
eight from the three point line in a game. In
the past week or so, Daniel Gafford had the game
of his life. I don't I didn't pull the stats up.
I just wrote a game of his life. I feel
(49:17):
like it wasn't it thirty one? It was like thirty
one points and seven blocks, yeah, or something. As the
MAVs deal without what would deal with losing Derek Lively? Everybody, uh,
and everybody Max's out basically, Yeah, I think that does it.
We're one week from the trade deadline. Jimmy Butler has
(49:38):
no home, Darren Fox wants a new home. Everybody else,
I mean, what are I don't know what teams are
gonna do, and I don't even know who's buying, you know,
Like the Warriors are see their season slip sliding away. Uh,
the Sixers are about to give like the eighth pick
to the thunder. A lot of fun stuff the Bulls
aren't quite bad enough. But also uh oh by the way,
(49:58):
uh Zach Lavine got a week long paternity leave. That
just happens to line up with the trade headline. Oh like, oh,
you know what, you take a few games, Just go
and take it through. Let me see you through next Thursday.
Just take it through next Thursday. That's fine.
Speaker 4 (50:10):
Would you rather have Zach Levine or Tiaron Fox?
Speaker 2 (50:15):
Am I the Rockets? No?
Speaker 4 (50:17):
No, no, no, just like you're you're gonna build a
basketball team.
Speaker 2 (50:21):
It's a great question.
Speaker 4 (50:24):
Zach Levine.
Speaker 2 (50:24):
I feel like I feel I feel like the wings
who can create their shot and shoot three pointers with
the outrageous efficiency that Zach Levine can a little bit
more rare. Yeah, and you can find a point guard usually,
So I don't know, it's a it's a it's a
fair question build around. Thanks everybody for listening, Dave, Thanks
for hanging out. Listeners are going to sports to show
