Speaker 1 (00:04):
All right, and welcome to Fast Break Breakfast MBA podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
My name is Keith Parrish, and I'm.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
Here once again with my cat Dorothy, who just jumped
at the microphone. And I'm also here through the miracle
a computer phone with my.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Good buddy Dave de four. Dave, what do you want
to talk about?

Speaker 3 (00:33):
I don't know, man, anything going on?

Speaker 1 (00:35):
No, I'll tell you obviously, this is basically an emergency podcast.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
Yeah, the Treasury Department is under no.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Yeah, here's the joke.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
I was going to use emergency podcast. The Raptors have
won seven of eight or is it six or seven?
I can't remember.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Saturday night blew my mind.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
The Raptors are competitive, but no, seriously, let's let's get
right into it, because it was the the Luca Dagher
trade was literally, I don't think it's hyperbole to say
it's the most shocking trade that's happened in the NBA, and.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
It's it was unpleasant for me getting the alert.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
Because I feel like you get to a point in
your life you just you you really value comfort and
knowing things are secure and knowing just normal things are
gonna happen. Looking at that, so I still have you know, Dave,
you don't like it. You don't like a phone alert
I've got I've got my sham Cherania notifications on.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
And I just stared at it and was like what.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
And then it was like, I legitimately believe most people
thought it was hacked, like he was hacked. And I'm
talking about like people did even react. They're like, what's this?
This doesn't make any sense, and like there were I
was watching the the Blazers game, and the Blazers announcers
are even like ESPN's reporting that Luka Doncic got traded,

(02:10):
but is that true? You know, like there's never anything
like that, and then like Sean Shrinia has to tweet
this is real, which is also the thing a hacker
would say. But the details, like all the trade details
where I'm like, I don't know if the hacker would
have included Markith Morris and so it was so surreal

(02:32):
and surprising and stunning. I even told my my wife
was was in bed. She was you know, this happened
like fifteen minutes after she went to sleep, and I
literally that.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Was pretty late.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
And I told her the next morning, I'm like, I know,
you make the joke all the time. Anytime I look
at my phone, if I'm adjusting my fantasy basketball lineup
while we're making dinner, She's like, hey, big trade, That's
what she says, Like, Hey, why are you in your phone?
And I'm like, hey, no joke. I think this was
the biggest trade of my lifetime. She's like, your lifetime,

(03:04):
and in her head she's like, you're such a loser.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
But then, really what I think it's the biggest train
of my lifetime.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
Anyways, do you want to hear how I heard?

Speaker 2 (03:13):
How'd you hear?

Speaker 3 (03:16):
You know?

Speaker 4 (03:17):
The daily is like kind of like eating up a
lot of what used to be social time so I
can hung out with my friends in a while.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
You know. Also it's wintertime. We had the holidays, so
I got together with.

Speaker 4 (03:28):
My friends like Saturday evening, had a little dinner, was
hanging out well as you as you mentioned, there's no
phone notifications. I don't have Twitter on my phone or
and I think my phone was in a bag on
silent and my buddy walks in and he's a sports fan, right,
and he also he's also always trying to make jokes.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
He knows, he knows.

Speaker 4 (03:51):
I don't have my phone on right. He's like, oh, Dave,
we think about that big trade. I'm like, ha ha ha,
very funny, baron ha. So you know, go back to
the conversation. He's like, no, no, no, really unless Sean's was hacked.
And I was like, he said Anthony Davis for Luka Dancic,
and he said it in a way where I'm like, Okay,

(04:13):
that is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
Yeah, I'm like, come on, man, that's goofy. At least
come up with a good one. I was like, you
could have done a deer in fox trade. He's like no, no, no, no, no,
no no.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
He pulled out his phone and he showed me this,
and I guess I had a look on my face
of disgust.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
Not, it was like clearly like a moment. Yeah, it
was like I got punched in the chest, Keith.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
It was weird.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
It's just it's not a fun surprise.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
Something that surprising. I'm with you not for that.

Speaker 3 (04:46):
It wasn't.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
So it's now been what it's been forty eight hours
since the trade went down or something, thirty six whatever,
So my initial shock, I'm like, this doesn't make any sense.
Why would anyone do this, And then I started being like, oh,
they must really think Luca just can't play basketball, which

(05:07):
is just a weird position. That was like my initial
s latest on Saturday night, where I'm like, all right,
as of Sunday morning, now stretched through Monday morning, I
think this is one of the worst trades I've ever
seen in any sport sports history. Like I'm trying to compare,

(05:27):
I'm trying to cross sports compare it where I'm like, oh, wow,
like the Broncos trading for Russell Wilson, they gave up
all this stuff, but all those things just pale in comparison, because, like,
my biggest takeaway for the Mavericks, well don't know if it's
the biggest, this is one of them. This seems like
a trade that would be made by someone who has
no comprehension what professional sports even are, because like, if

(05:53):
you work for the Dallas Mavericks, you're in the Luka
Doncic business. That's your business, and it's a very very profitable,
good business beyond basketball. Fit Let's imagine Luca was bad
at basketball, which he's not. He's one of the best players. Ever,
Let's imagine Luca was bad at basketball. But still he's

(06:15):
the reason you're on TV. He's the reason why you
have so many social media subscribers. He's the reason people
are watching your shows. He's the people. He's the reason
why people show up to the games, like you self ticket.
He's everything, and he was gonna be there forever. And
also he was more popular in his among his fan base.

(06:40):
Then I don't know who you compare it to. I'd
say it's on par with Jokic on the Mavericks. And
I'm talking about across sports. We're talking about like Patrick
Mahomes on the Chiefs. As far as like your entire franchise,
your fan base, they are just this one person. And

(07:02):
football is a bad example because there's so many people
on the team. Like there aren't Mavericks fans. There's probably
like twelve who were.

Speaker 3 (07:10):
Like, well they're about to find out.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
I don't really like Luca, you know, we need someone
who plays harder and one of them runs the team apparently,
But like that part of it to me, where when
you trade a player and it like you and me
and Dave, we don't cheer for the Mavericks. Now I'd
cheer against the Mavericks. You said, it was like you

(07:32):
got punched in the chest for the tens of thousands
of like hardcore Mavericks fans. Legitimately, it felt like like
a death in the family.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
Like it's that kind of shock. And I don't mean
to make light of it.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
Or to compare sports to like, yeah, yeah, this is
but seriously, sports are people's lives, and to have something
that stunning for.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
What reason, like for why, you know, for nothing like.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
That part of it brings me back to I think
this was the worst trade I've ever heard of.

Speaker 4 (08:10):
Yeah, I've been calling it the worst trade in sports history,
and and people keep saying, well, Anthony Davis, Anthony, it's
Anthony Davis.

Speaker 3 (08:17):
Okay, yeah, great, so and he's not gonna be there
that long maybe you know what I mean.

Speaker 4 (08:24):
I mean, well, he'll take the big contract or whatever.
But I just I just don't get it, man. It
was It's confusing. Even if you got proper value, it's
confusing because Luka Doncic doesn't grow on trees.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
There is there is no proper value.

Speaker 3 (08:41):
There isn't.

Speaker 4 (08:41):
Yeah, like you've got a sport where five guys are
on the court, one guy can make such a huge
difference and there's four or five of those guys at.

Speaker 3 (08:51):
Any one time, and you had one.

Speaker 1 (08:53):
You had one who did not want to go, who
wanted to be there. There is there is no there
is no correct value. I think when you weigh in
your fan reaction, the fan attachment to that player, and
just how much again it was he is a entity,
a business entity upon himself, like this is a devastating

(09:15):
blow to every single Mavericks podcast, Like this is a
devastating blow to anyone in the business if you have
any kind of like merchandise business around the Mavericks, if
you have a TV show around the Mavericks, if you
have a restaurant near the Mavericks, Like this is the
devastating blow for all that and the fact that this
is not like an on paper basketball win, like if

(09:36):
you're playing two K, you're playing two K, Dave, this
is an interesting I might be as good at basketball
if I trade this one guy say, but it's a
fully integrated lifestyle, professional entertainment product. You're not gonna be
a Christmas Day anymore. But even going to the basketball product, Dave,

(10:00):
the Mavericks, in my mind, we're going to be a
title contender for the next eight seasons modestly like that
they put out all this stuff about like, uh, we
did it. You know, the Supermax is something you gotta consider.
I mean, good job for Tim McMahon at the press conference,
being like I think he says something like why was

(10:23):
the super Max a tough decision? Or why would the
super Max be a tough decision for Luca and like like,
and Niko was like, well, I mean, it's not a
tough decision.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
But once you offer it, then you're on the clock.
What does that even mean? You're in the Luca Dodgets business.
That is your business, Like, that's your entire thing. You
get to build.

Speaker 1 (10:41):
You have the privilege of building around one of the
three players that matters for the next however many years.
I'm stunned by it. It doesn't make any sense.

Speaker 3 (10:59):
How how do other teams like, can they file a grievance?
You know what?

Speaker 1 (11:03):
I legitimately am like, can can can a fan base?
So you say other teams, I don't think other teams should.
This is other teams are like, this is amazing.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
You made the league.

Speaker 1 (11:18):
I mean I feel like you kind of frightened the league,
like you were a title contender. Now you're not Mavericks.
The Lakers weren't a title contender.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
I don't think they are. I still don't think they
are not yet.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
But you could you could complain like, hey, why did
you give the Lakers a lifeline into having now ten
more years of superstardom like that?

Speaker 2 (11:39):
They did not have that.

Speaker 1 (11:40):
But I feel like as if you're a season ticket
horror among the Mavericks, if you're someone with a financial
interest in the Mavericks, this seems like the sort of
thing that you should put together a lawsuit, get a
judge to file a restraining order, because like, when can
you hear the things Nico Harrison says with like his

(12:03):
like kind of nervous I'm making little jokes energy like
the I don't want to I don't want to criticize
someone whose entire persona is just cracking jokes and everything,
But like when they're saying, you know when when when
he specifically mentioned to him the future of the Dallas
Mavericks is the next three to four years, not the

(12:24):
next ten years. That is, I need to file an injunction.
There needs to be a restraining order. How can you
let this person make a decision, this monumental that affects
so many thousands of people and in like thousands of
businesses like that is it doesn't make any sense.

Speaker 4 (12:42):
We live in a time where, you know, conspiracy theories
are kind of rampant but also true. Is this is
one where it's like, you know what, I'm reading the
conspiracy theories out there because what's the bast what you've
heard that the attack and this one's not gonna happen. Yeah,

(13:02):
I mean, this isn't real, but that they want to somehow,
you know, pull like a major league and tank the team, dude,
so that they can get into an arena fight that's fake,
so that they can get their casino through. Look, these
people already pay more money than the Addison's, pay more
money to Texas politicians and the legislature U than anyone

(13:25):
else in the country I'm assuming.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
Uh, and they couldn't get it through, so they got
two years to wait.

Speaker 4 (13:30):
I don't driving down the value of your product doesn't
make any sense to me.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
But the owner has to sign off on this.

Speaker 4 (13:37):
Keith, like this is not like it's not like Nico
Harrison was you know, abducted Luka Doncic and smuggled him
to the Lakers illegally, Like there are multiple steps in
this process, but all of them might have been worth
it to watch Jason Kidd die inside during the press conference.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
I could.

Speaker 1 (13:54):
I mean so like Harrison's cracking jokes and Jason Kidd
is not cracking jokes.

Speaker 2 (13:59):
No, his face is not cracking up.

Speaker 1 (14:00):
I mean he did a good job of solidarity of
being like, yeah, yeah, we're gonna win now player a
two way guy and Anthony Davis, the the the the
conspiracy theory that they're pulling a major league that I
feel like that that has that holds a little bit
of water with me. Yeah, because like everything I was saying,
you've destroyed the value of your product.

Speaker 2 (14:23):
The Dallas Mavericks are worth less right now.

Speaker 4 (14:26):
Right which is gonna be is gonna go down, Like.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
You know how hard it is to make your NBA
franchise be worthless, but you did it. And the idea
that the Addison's that they've been trying to get the
Texas state legislature to legalize the casino so they can
have a casino arena, and this is Addelson And there
is some part of like, you know, if we even

(14:50):
when we try to keep politics out of sports or
politics out of this episode. The Addlsons are self described
Trump mega donors, and like you think about, all right,
what's what's the angle here? And are they trying to
destroy the value of this franchise for some what's what's
the bigger play? Because that doesn't make any sense.

Speaker 3 (15:09):
And the money of the NBA team is peanuts to them.

Speaker 1 (15:12):
Yeah, and and the idea of driving down the value
of the Mavericks because then maybe they would force their
way to lost back to Las Vegas. If they can't
get maybe Vegas can expe These are some wild conspiracy theories.
There also was conspiracy theories of like, you know, are
Lucas politics wrong?

Speaker 4 (15:31):
Is Nico Harrison a Nike sleeper agent or rob police?

Speaker 2 (15:37):
And then there's.

Speaker 1 (15:38):
Parts of it where people are like Nico is just
putting up the front that this was my idea, when
clearly the ownership was like, no, that guy has to
get off our team or something because it But all
these things happen.

Speaker 2 (15:49):
The reason conspiracy theories started.

Speaker 3 (15:51):
Anthony Davis waves trade kicker Keith.

Speaker 1 (15:55):
The reason conspiracy theories start a lot of times, it's
for one ignorant and two when we can't explain something,
all right, lots of viruses and diseases, science can explain them.
Trading Luca Dontage to the Lakers inexplicable. No, no data
supports this. So we then look to the the god slash,

(16:16):
the conspiracy theorist to be like, what's going on, Dave.

Speaker 3 (16:23):
Insane?

Speaker 1 (16:24):
If you were to pick any player you wanted to
build your team around for a playoff series, who are
you picking?

Speaker 4 (16:34):
Who's well, Like, I mean, I'm gonna start with yok
Yokich is number one?

Speaker 2 (16:41):
And who's number two? Man?

Speaker 3 (16:45):
It might I mean could be Luca.

Speaker 1 (16:48):
How heavy would Luca Doncig have to be before he
wasn't your second pick?

Speaker 3 (16:54):
Oh? Man?

Speaker 1 (16:55):
Because because they're because literally also all right, So Dico
Harrison nco Harrison in the press conference is like it
says something like I'm not gonna say anything bad about
a player.

Speaker 2 (17:04):
That's not what I do. And yet every.

Speaker 1 (17:07):
ESPN person has all these quotes from the team like, oh,
his conditioning's not there, he weighs two hundred and seventy pounds. Now,
I mean his welcome to La photo where Luca's coming
off the plane, he looks beefy but I'm here in
out of shape, Luka Dancic. I think is consensus the

(17:27):
second pick on which player which you want? They went
to the finals last year, and now they're trading the
best player on a finals team under the pretext of
it's for basketball reasons to get better now and in
the future. Asters the future meets the next three to

(17:48):
four seasons. Yeah, this is the worst trade imaginable.

Speaker 3 (17:53):
It may honestly like it.

Speaker 4 (17:55):
The value here is also an issue for me, Keith,
because it just says that you know, I mean, we
know value is inherent right, like there is no concrete
value anywhere. But Michale Bridges got five first round picks
more than that's and it's just like, yeah, Luka Danci,
you got.

Speaker 1 (18:14):
Nothing, all right, So let's I want to make sure
I'm not getting carried away and I'm not like fully
considering this stunning move.

Speaker 2 (18:25):
Because maybe like this is a bold, risky move.

Speaker 4 (18:28):
Well, anytime, Keith, you can get older, less talented, and
have less long term control of your star player.

Speaker 3 (18:37):
I mean, you gotta do.

Speaker 2 (18:38):
It right again.

Speaker 1 (18:40):
My my my impression was, Okay, you took a ten
year title window and made it a zero Your title
window like that is inexcusable. But maybe just maybe, like
Anythony Davis is super great, maybe possibly Luca, Like do
they have pre Hogs Minority Report pre Cogs were like, listen,

(19:04):
Luca is gonna pull a calf muscle every season for
the next five hours.

Speaker 3 (19:07):
Said you were gonna say, Luca's gonna commit a crime.

Speaker 2 (19:10):
Yeah, He's gonna commit seditions.

Speaker 1 (19:13):
Yeah, yeah, he's gonna storm the capitol the like because
this takes for me. The thing Nico said defending the
move or explaining the move, he would say is he
got out of head, got out ahead.

Speaker 3 (19:28):
Of it, tumultuous, He got.

Speaker 1 (19:30):
Out ahead of yeah of like a lot of teams
making a free agent pushes at Luca, at Lucas.

Speaker 3 (19:36):
Got the hot girl.

Speaker 4 (19:37):
Man, that's your you gotta you gotta.

Speaker 2 (19:41):
You have it all.

Speaker 1 (19:42):
But like so maybe if he turns into Zion Williamson
and just can't be on the court period, right then
this you could look back in retrospect and be like,
you know what, they got out the right time.

Speaker 4 (19:53):
So he and Anthony Davis played the same number of
percentage of games the last like three seasons or something.

Speaker 1 (19:59):
I mean, I will grant you Anthony Davis as we
know much older, So maybe that's more concerning that Luca
at twenty five, has already missed this mini games. I'm
just saying, in retrospect, you can look and say, all right,
if he's gonna be that injury.

Speaker 2 (20:12):
Prone, But but then I go back to the whole.
This is.

Speaker 1 (20:17):
The most important player to your entire fan base and
to every season ticket holder, and to like thousands and
thousands of kids who are fans who on Sunday morning,
their parents got the opportunity to be like, hey, you
know your favorite player, he's gone. Why I don't know,
because everything to a billionaire, touches will get ruined.

Speaker 2 (20:35):
But now, I don't know, I don't know what you
tell you a kid like.

Speaker 4 (20:38):
It would have been like the Cavs trading Lebron to
Miami in yes, instead of him leaving.

Speaker 3 (20:46):
Yes, you know what I mean? Like it, yeah, but
for like.

Speaker 4 (20:52):
I don't know what what who was there that they
would have maybe gotten you know.

Speaker 2 (20:56):
That was me, But you wouldn't even gotten Dwayne Wade, right, you.

Speaker 3 (20:58):
Would have gotten Dwayne Wade. I just I don't know.

Speaker 4 (21:01):
I've never I can't think of a single trade in
any sport that even approaches it Keith like yeah, all
and and it's so lopsided as well, right like, and
this is again Anthony Davis is good, Like he's very good.
He's I don't know, top fifteen player, but it's about
Anthony Davis.

Speaker 3 (21:22):
Now you have Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving. You have
two number.

Speaker 4 (21:25):
Two's, and you had not just a number one, like
one of the number ones, like one of the five
guys that can win a time, like if he's on
your team, you have a chance to win every single
basketball game you're in.

Speaker 3 (21:36):
And Anthony Davis isn't that guy.

Speaker 4 (21:38):
So to take a step back there, and then the
team was built with Luca in mind, Like Lake Thompson
doesn't come there.

Speaker 3 (21:45):
To play with Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving?

Speaker 1 (21:49):
What are I posted this on social media and he's bad,
but you know what I mean?

Speaker 2 (21:54):
Yeah, Max Christy's better than Klay Thompson.

Speaker 1 (21:55):
Yeah yeah, yeah, Hey good did you got Max Christy?

Speaker 2 (22:00):
Not get Austin Reeves.

Speaker 1 (22:02):
I didn't even get You didn't even get the twenty
thirty one Lakers pick. You got the twenty twenty nine Lakers. First.
I'm I'm a I'm at I'm at a loss. Uh oh,
I was gonna say, if you were told three seasons
ago that Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis, and Klay Thompson we're

(22:24):
gonna be on the same team, which team will they
be on?

Speaker 3 (22:28):
Lakers?

Speaker 2 (22:28):
But how yeah you would you would.

Speaker 5 (22:29):
Have guessed, uh Warriors, uh nets uh the team of
in Miami somehow how like you wouldn't even gotten to
the Mavericks because you would.

Speaker 2 (22:40):
Have never traded Luka Doncic uh shout out Jaron Jackson.

Speaker 1 (22:45):
Junior being the last last surviving I mean Ayton, no
cross off Badley, no cross off Doc just got traded.

Speaker 2 (22:59):
Yeah, Trey Jung's know there Trey Young All Star snub?

Speaker 1 (23:03):
Absolutely, I'll be real, Dave, I was, uh, I mean
the All Star snub episode gets erased by the uh
luka Doncic traded episode. I was legitimately extremely surprised Tyler
Harrow was an All Star over Trey Young. Maybe it's
my years long just ignoring of Tyler Hero's contributions to basketball,
But for me, Trey.

Speaker 2 (23:24):
Young's a star and he's like, he's good.

Speaker 1 (23:28):
Yeah, the Hawks are up and down, but like the
Hawks in the heat are basically the same. You're not
putting in Trey Young leading the league and assists of
surprising twenty.

Speaker 4 (23:36):
Like he puts up thirty twenty, you know what I mean?
Like he's built for that as bonus also got host.

Speaker 2 (23:43):
Who would you to put some bonus in over Shingoon?

Speaker 1 (23:47):
Yeah, I'm surprised shing Goon got in, but like that's
one of those Yeah, you gotta have a rocket. I
mean Kyrie Irving a little bit snubbed. I feel like
maybe Kyrie I mean some bonus is.

Speaker 2 (23:56):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (23:56):
I don't think Kyrie got snubbed.

Speaker 1 (23:58):
Let's go back to the trade because oh no, so
we'll talk about the deer in Fox trade.

Speaker 2 (24:03):
Yeah, in a second.

Speaker 1 (24:05):
No, but before we wrap up or we move on
from the Donge trade. We haven't talked with the Lakers
aspect of it that much. It's pretty clear. But this
is a question I've gotten a lot from Patroon supporters.
I've heard people talking about it just in random text groups.
I'm in, who's the best player the Mavericks could have

(24:26):
gotten for Luka Doncic and is Anthony Davis?

Speaker 4 (24:31):
See this is interesting, right, because like if you're if
they called Milwaukee.

Speaker 2 (24:37):
And there are some reports they did, but I don't
know if I don't believe them.

Speaker 4 (24:41):
But if they offer Luca for Yannis and you're Milwaukee,
you have to think about it, right, you.

Speaker 2 (24:48):
Have to think about it. But also.

Speaker 1 (24:51):
If you're in Milwaukee, same situation, you're in the Yannis business, right,
like Jannis is your guy? Yeah, in my mind, it's
it's just not worth it's not worth disrupting.

Speaker 2 (25:06):
I don't know even what you would call it.

Speaker 1 (25:07):
Just the fan base, just the fact that we have
our guy, the ecosystem. If if the Bucks had never
won a title, then maybe I guess you consider it.
But you've won the title with Giannis. You honest is
your person. You stay faithful to that person until they
leave you. That's that's my view of just like sports.

Speaker 4 (25:26):
What about Shay if they called up Okay, see, you
don't think.

Speaker 1 (25:30):
I mean I would I think, yeah, I think I
think that's an easy no for the Thunder.

Speaker 4 (25:35):
So we're looking like Boston. Would they give up Tatum.
I don't think so.

Speaker 1 (25:40):
I think they would actually maybe, wow, I think they probably.

Speaker 3 (25:45):
I think I think the defense to them.

Speaker 4 (25:49):
Yeah, I mean, I'm not sure where you go then
I mean, like Anthony Davis, if we're saying he's a
top fifteen guy.

Speaker 1 (25:55):
Yeah, if I'm comfortable call him a top ten player.

Speaker 3 (25:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (26:00):
The whole the whole premise of him being like Nico
double counter and him is like we traded Luca for
an All NBA center and an All defensive first team player.
It's like, no, you traded him for one guy who
is close to those things. But like Anthony Davis does
not anchor great defenses. He's a very good individual defensive player.

(26:24):
This also gets me when people are like, like if
like Anthony Davis is like blocking Jaron Jackson junior shot
over and over and over, and people are like, oh,
but you know, but Jaren's that he was a Player
of the Year, and then like Anthony Davis is scoring
thirty points on Jaron. I'm always like, guys, the award
is not who guards Anthony Davis the best, you know,

(26:45):
The award is not who guards any player the best.
The award is who plays the best defense. It helps
everybody out, and like it's the tame thing, and you.

Speaker 3 (26:53):
Know that's the other weird part.

Speaker 4 (26:55):
Keith to me is like You've got all right, So
Anthony Davis now has two centers to play next to.

Speaker 1 (27:00):
Yeah, you got gathered lively hurt for a while, right,
and now PJ.

Speaker 3 (27:06):
Washington is your three?

Speaker 2 (27:08):
Yeah? Not great? Not great?

Speaker 4 (27:09):
There, Clay is gonna sometimes be the two when he's playing,
and Kyrie is your one?

Speaker 3 (27:15):
All right?

Speaker 2 (27:16):
I mean is Max Christy starting?

Speaker 4 (27:18):
I don't uh now if you're Klay Thompson, did you
come there to come off the bench.

Speaker 3 (27:24):
I don't know. I just I don't think the defense
is gonna be all that good.

Speaker 4 (27:29):
I think that that historic offense potential that they had
is much lower now.

Speaker 3 (27:35):
Keith yea, who's gonna shoot? Where's the space? MAXI Kleba
for this team? Do you know how much he played?

Speaker 2 (27:44):
He's been playing a lot recent, but he's he's also.

Speaker 4 (27:46):
Whenever he was healthy, he was out in the rotation, heavy,
heavy minutes.

Speaker 3 (27:51):
And I just I don't know. I just don't like
I think Dallas.

Speaker 4 (27:55):
I mean they got worst short term, they got worst
long term. That I think their floor is lower. I
think their ceiling is obviously lower.

Speaker 2 (28:04):
Dave.

Speaker 3 (28:05):
They were in the finals, key, Dave, they were just
in the finals.

Speaker 2 (28:09):
Do the Mavericks make the play in.

Speaker 3 (28:12):
They are right?

Speaker 1 (28:14):
They are one game up on the Warriors. They are
three games up on the Spurs. Anthony Davis is still
playing for a week. Anthony Davis is not playing for
a week at least he's hurt.

Speaker 4 (28:32):
Kings though, I don't I don't know what's going to
go on with them here in the next few days.

Speaker 1 (28:38):
So yeah, I'm with you. I don't think the Mavericks
e been got I don't think they got better, of course,
because you lost that. Yeah, like that's just stupid. Even
if Luca was gonna play, I don't know, Like that's
the issue is Luca. You don't trust him to be healthy. Ever, again,
that's the only way it works out. How good are
the Lakers now, before we move on to the k

(29:00):
and the Spurs trade, how good are the Lakers with
Luca and Lebron?

Speaker 2 (29:06):
I mean we're talking that.

Speaker 1 (29:09):
I mean, that's an all time just kind of mind
blowing pairing. It's funny, two of the best passers a player.
Lebron I think very comfortable being the secondary player to him.
He's very comfortable with passing it on to be like, hey,
it's just yours now. However, they have some holes on

(29:30):
the roster.

Speaker 3 (29:32):
Well, I'm assuming. Look, they can't be done right.

Speaker 4 (29:36):
I think we saw some people say that they were
maybe kicking the tires on Nick Claxon.

Speaker 3 (29:40):
Obviously that'd be great, But.

Speaker 4 (29:44):
Look this year, oddly enough, if Luca is gonna be
back and be healthy, and let's let's say Luca like
Pie AND's guy, Lua, Luca and Lebron play the rest
of the season and they're healthy, I think they can
stay where they're at because the offense will give them
that that higher floor.

Speaker 3 (30:03):
Their defense is going to be awful.

Speaker 2 (30:05):
Well here here's the thing. Yeah, the defense huge concern.

Speaker 1 (30:08):
Yeah, you know another name maybe I don't know if
they would have like Mitchell Robinson who might be returning two.

Speaker 2 (30:17):
They need a lobb threat. Yeah, well the Lakers.

Speaker 1 (30:21):
They need a lob threat. No, but here, if Luca
is healthy, I don't think this is a hot take.
If Luca is healthy, the Lakers are better than the Mavericks.
Like like the Lakers the Mavericks this season, which is hilarious.
I mean I want that more. I mean I want

(30:41):
that more than anything in the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (30:43):
It's I'm so I'm so confused by this whole thing.

Speaker 1 (30:47):
But anyways, uh, incredible trade for the Lakers. Also all
those things that Nico Harrison said, there was some social
I wanted to credit the social media user who spelled
it out to me before I and actually watched the
press conference or whatever. Oh yeah, it's like it's oh,
I wrote it down somewhere.

Speaker 4 (31:05):
I gotta say, you know, look for what it's worth.
Lakers fans being incredibly graceful about this.

Speaker 3 (31:16):
This is like they know there is none of this thing. Yeah,
you're seepish Gasol.

Speaker 2 (31:23):
They are, Oh, I'm glad you mentioned pael Gasol.

Speaker 1 (31:26):
This is not the most supersized version of the Pelgasaul trade,
where it's like, wait, you just gave Pelgasaw to the Lakers.

Speaker 2 (31:33):
There was no bidding process. No, this guy, uh, it's
balall A on Twitter. It was like he could not
believe that.

Speaker 1 (31:41):
Nico Harrison in the press conference spelled out that one
the Mavericks owner laughed and thought he was joking when
he brought it up.

Speaker 2 (31:47):
Polinka. Polinka thought he was joking when he brought it up.

Speaker 1 (31:51):
Luca did not indicate he wanted out or would not resign,
and also that he said that he and Jason Kid
wouldn't have jobs in three to four years like the guy.
The fact that he said that is all incredible. I'm
blown away.

Speaker 3 (32:04):
Day.

Speaker 2 (32:05):
Let's say, let's take a break, we'll come back, we'll
talk a little bit about the rest of the league.
We'll have an awards segment.

Speaker 1 (32:11):
And we'll hit the deern Fox trade. All right, Dave,
Before we hit the deer in Fox trade, I actually
have one more follow up question about the Luka Doncic
Anthony Davis trade. Yeah, Dave, Does defense win championships? That's

(32:33):
what Nico Harrison said. He said they wanted to get
a defensive first player in. He said they said it
over over defense win championships? Does Does defense win championships?

Speaker 3 (32:42):
I guess? I mean, but offense beats defense? You know?

Speaker 2 (32:48):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (32:49):
What's what's What's the had a historic offense last year
and Dallas got to the finals because of I mean,
they had an amazing defense, right, That's why they made
this run.

Speaker 1 (32:59):
What's the worst offensive team to win a title in
the last fifteen years, wasn't it like maybe the Bubble Lakers?
Am I Maybe I can't remember. I feel like you
have to be defense wins championships if you have an
elite offense. I think it's I think it's the full statement. Like, like, guys,

(33:20):
I don't know, if you're watching sports nowadays, defense doesn't
win championships in college football, in pro football, or in
uh in professional basketball.

Speaker 4 (33:29):
You know, though, Keith, every playoff that Luca's in, people
are like, oh, look, he can defend because he's he
does defend. Like, I don't know, It's just that's such
a silly it was a silly argument, a silly point
to make. Even that press conference was absurd, Keith. I
watched the whole thing.

Speaker 2 (33:45):
Yeah, I watched the whole thing too.

Speaker 1 (33:47):
It was It's one of those things where it's like,
I can't I'm so relieved I don't have a stake
in the Dallas Mavericks because I wouldn't know what to
do with my anger.

Speaker 3 (33:59):
I would, I tell you, Keith, like, I don't have
a stake in any team. Yeah, but it's nice.

Speaker 4 (34:04):
That that Dallas had a guy that you had to
care about, and those guys being distributed around the league
is actually good. Parody has been fun at least this
year for me. I I just think it's I don't know, man,
and I'm not a Laker hater.

Speaker 1 (34:21):
So also, you said the parody being distributed on the
league is good. I actually think this trade is bad
for the NBA at large. You already have a marquee
franchise in the Lakers.

Speaker 2 (34:35):
Maybe it's good.

Speaker 1 (34:36):
Maybe the idea of creating super key teams is actually
good because it gets more casual viewers to tune in.

Speaker 2 (34:42):
But my thought is like, uh, you just wrecked one.

Speaker 1 (34:45):
Of your big draws in Dallas, and you just added
it to a team that was already had a lot
of eyeballs on it.

Speaker 3 (34:51):
Anyways, they could have won, have titled this year Keith.

Speaker 1 (34:53):
Yeah, it would have been hard coming from the play in,
but like that's possible.

Speaker 2 (34:57):
Yeah, I I.

Speaker 1 (35:00):
I recorded a Gritz and Grinds episode earlier, and from
a specifically Grizzlies perspective, I love the trade.

Speaker 2 (35:08):
Because it makes it kills the future of the Bavericks.

Speaker 1 (35:12):
It Kyrie's thirty three, Anthony Davis turns thirty two any
day now, and they don't have their draft picks going forward.

Speaker 2 (35:21):
This is a team that had a twenty five year
old Luka, Doncic, you just killed your franchise for a decade.
I love it As a Grizzlies fan, I thought we
had to face Luca for the next ten years. Perfect
well done.

Speaker 1 (35:33):
The Sacramento Kings did, in fact trade Deeron Fox to
the San Antonio Spurs. It was a three way deal
involving the Chicago Bulls. Also, by the way, Luca Data
trade three way trade. Good job Jazz grabbing a Jalenhood
Schaffino in the In the mess, the Spurs get de

(35:54):
Aaron Fox. The Kings get Zach Lavine. We'll say two
first round picks, because they did not. They did not
get three first They got two first round picks and
five second round picks, some of them very good second
round picks. Meanwhile, the Bulls get a bag of apples.

Speaker 2 (36:15):
I don't know whether the.

Speaker 3 (36:17):
Bull the first, but they can't take enough to make it.

Speaker 1 (36:22):
The Bulls get Kevin Herder Trey Jones, and they get
their own twenty twenty five pick back from the Spurs
that was top ten protected, so like they already were,
there was a chance they were going to keep it.
This does not mean, Chicago fans that you're tanking. This
means you get to keep the twelfth pick, right, because

(36:45):
you're still probably maybe going to the play in.

Speaker 4 (36:49):
They got Zach Collins sue they got okay, Keith, yep.

Speaker 3 (36:54):
Out of these trades, man, they're getting nothing.

Speaker 2 (37:00):
Where do you want to start start this?

Speaker 4 (37:02):
I don't want to talk about the Bulls because said, yeah,
let's oart with the Kings, because I think like Fox
and Wemby like that.

Speaker 3 (37:10):
Man, that makes a lot of sense.

Speaker 4 (37:12):
Zach Lavine on the Kings. On the other hand, to me,
Keith doesn't make a lot of sense. Malik Monk, zach Levine,
Demarta Rosen demonis the bonus. Offensively, all need to kind
of touch the ball right. Defensively, that's a mess.

Speaker 3 (37:29):
So, like I.

Speaker 4 (37:30):
Wonder if they're not done yet. Yeah, you know, I
don't hate the hall of picks they got. I mean
you got to first and you got, like you said,
five seconds. Some of them are pretty good. Uh for
a guy who asked out. This is not like Luca. Okay,
there's a guy who asked out.

Speaker 1 (37:46):
He the situations could not be more disparate, say player
asks out, also the thirty feft player in.

Speaker 2 (37:55):
The NBA or so.

Speaker 3 (37:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (37:57):
Yeah, they actually got out ahead of it like they
are supposed to. This is this was like, this is
not a Nico. We got it way ahead of it.

Speaker 4 (38:05):
I said this, you know, I said this on the daily.
That really what Nico Harrison did right or wrong? Right,
he broke the norms of basketball operations, right like he he.

Speaker 3 (38:17):
Broke the the way that it's been done.

Speaker 4 (38:19):
I don't look, I don't know how because I can't
predict the future, and maybe there are things that we
don't know, Keith, But I would say that what the
Kings are doing is more by the playbook. It's hey,
we drafted, well, okay, well it's not working out. He
wants out before this extension boom, we move on and
we reshuffle the deck.

Speaker 3 (38:37):
The difference is they don't.

Speaker 4 (38:38):
I mean, if they're trying to just hang in the middle,
they've got a team that's that's built to do that.

Speaker 3 (38:42):
They can score.

Speaker 4 (38:44):
But I just don't think, as you said, does defense
win championships. No, But I think defense can maybe help
you stay into play in if that's your goal.

Speaker 2 (38:55):
This just came to me, you know what Nico Harrison did.

Speaker 1 (38:58):
He he like it's like someone No, it's like someone
who who is longing to find someone to love and
they find the perfect person and and they have like
the greatest you know, maybe this is like your before
Sunset film. You have this wonderful, magical romance, this enchantment.

(39:20):
You can't believe how perfect this person is, and you
spend a few weeks with them, but in your head
you're like, this.

Speaker 2 (39:27):
Is a fairy book. This is there's the happiest day
of my life.

Speaker 3 (39:30):
But you know what.

Speaker 1 (39:32):
This is Probably this feeling won't last for forty years.
So I'm just gonna get out now, you know what
I'm gonna I'm gonna get out ahead of it, Dave.
I'm gonna get out ahead of it and be like,
you know what, I love you and I've never been happier,
But like, let's be real, we'll probably fight.

Speaker 2 (39:48):
Some in maybe ten fifteen years. I'll go, I'm the
King's Dave.

Speaker 3 (39:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (39:56):
I love what the Kings did here under the circumstances
that were scented to them.

Speaker 4 (40:02):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (40:02):
You make a great point.

Speaker 1 (40:03):
Uh, zach Lavine, Malik Monk, and Demarta Rosen not you
would draw up in a lab as perfect.

Speaker 2 (40:12):
However, one of the.

Speaker 1 (40:13):
Things that we keep saying the Kings needed this year
is shooting, and zach Lavine is as good as it
gets at three point shooting and there possibly is a
world where there's enough ball handling because like malinke Bunk
has been play making incredibly well, and of course Demartin,

(40:33):
like you said, these guys like having the ball in
their hands. But I do think I think Zach is
willing to share. I mean, he's like, I don't think
he's taken away from.

Speaker 4 (40:43):
Zach Lavine is a very good player who seems like
a good teammate when he's out there.

Speaker 2 (40:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (40:47):
So, like my my biggest takeaway for the Kings is
I think there's a chance they didn't get worse. There's
a chance they did get worse. Oh yes, but there's
a chance they did not get worse. And this is
just a different look to of course we have to
make the comparison. Well, the Bulls already tried parts of
this look, having de Murderers and Zach Lavine, and it
was an ideal. Yeah, but having some bonus in there

(41:10):
and having these three wing guys, like you say, the
defense is of course bad. Like at least you get
a taller guy than Daron. Fox was like, I don't
know if it's I don't know if it's gonna be
that much worse for me. They didn't really get that
much worse. They picked up another asset in Zach Levine,
who is a very very good player. And then they
also they got two nice first round picks, they got

(41:33):
five very good second round like they got the Bulls
pick this year out of it, which is like, if
you're the Bulls, how do you not keep your own?
Like that pick's gonna be thirty seventh, you can't keep that, Like,
what are you doing? I like it for the Kings.
I think it's a good job. I'm interested to see
how it all works. Maybe it's just a disaster having

(41:54):
those guys work together, but I still think they can
probably stay in the play in and they're gonna be entertaining.
And this is one of those things that maybe it's
a blessing in disguise, Like I think about you know,
I've been just criticizing the Mavericks NonStop.

Speaker 2 (42:08):
You were a title you were a title contender. Now
you're not.

Speaker 1 (42:12):
For the Kings, you were not a title contender, And
it might be a blessing in disguise, because let's be real,
Jaron Fox and Demotic's Spponis were never winning an NBA title. No,
unless you somehow drafted, you know, a Kawhi with the
eighteenth pick. Like you know, those guys were never winning
a title. The blessing, the blessing in disguise is you

(42:35):
get to continue a fun, competitive year. You're not bottoming out,
you're not tanking. You probably make the play in you
pick up a good player in Zach Levine. But you
also get those lottery tickets for the future. You restocked
your cupboard, you have all these second round picks, you
have extra first round picks. Now, this is I think
what a lot of teams wish they could do. But

(42:55):
but again they're bound to oh I don't know, uh,
they have hu hbanity and won't destroy their fan bases
and their businesses.

Speaker 2 (43:03):
You know, this is like that.

Speaker 1 (43:04):
There's like a lot of teams that are like, man,
I wish I could actually trade this guy, but we
can't because it's a business and we'll selling a lot
of jerseys, and like, you know, we're gonna We're gonna
deal with this because that's just the handle you've been
dealt the Kings, because that I mean, because Fox requested
to go out, they get the opportunity not afforded most teams.
They get to get out of jail free card to say,

(43:25):
all right, bring in another good you get a good
player plus draft picks you still get to keep, like
they didn't think give up anything so except for Fox.
So like that part of I think it's a well
done bit of business for the Kings in their situation
from the Spurs, Dave, how good? How good are the
Spurs now now that they spent there these picks to
get Fox.

Speaker 4 (43:45):
I think they're much better and they lose very little,
you know, Tredy Jones, Zach Collins, Okay, yeah, those weren't
playing much. Yeah, they get they get to Aaron Fox.
They kept uh, Stephan Castle. They kept Kelton Johnson, which
I thought he was going out in pretty much any trade,
which maybe they're not done now. The Spurs don't normally

(44:06):
make mid season trades like this, so a little bit
of a surprise. We'll see what happens. But uh, and
they kept Devin Vessel. They didn't even have the trade
so hand, I don't I think this is like a
huge win for them. They bring in a guy who
wants to be there, who is kind of going into
his prime as Wemby is doing whatever on the fly

(44:27):
alien evolution he does from night to night and I
don't know, man, they're already pretty good.

Speaker 3 (44:34):
Like they're decent, and they they feel like they're getting better.

Speaker 2 (44:38):
They're like, no, I would push back from the getting better.
They're slip.

Speaker 1 (44:41):
They're sort of slip sliding away from decent. Their schedule
finally balanced out. They finally had had to start playing
road games, and like, I don't know, what are they They.

Speaker 3 (44:51):
Do some things that that definitely show growth.

Speaker 2 (44:54):
Twenty won in twenty five, three and seven of their
last ten.

Speaker 4 (44:57):
Like I don't know, Wemby cut off a dr the
other night and just walks into another one of these
one footed threes. But defensively, the guys around him have
learned how to play with them better. Look, Fox is
going to supercharge that offense quite a bit. I think
they they could probably sneak into the play in. It

(45:18):
depends on what Sacramento is gonna do, right, I mean,
still has all these pieces.

Speaker 2 (45:23):
I would say, well, they're still sneaking. They're not sneaking.
I mean they're not.

Speaker 1 (45:28):
Yeah, I feel I love this race in the West
because I mean, the any race is good regardless. But
now that we have Daron Fox chose to go from
the tenth seed to the twelfth seed, right, he chose
to go down the standings because he that's cool. There's
brighter future with Wimby. But like you have Daron Fox

(45:51):
now trying to catch the Sacramento Kings, you have the
Mavericks trying to hang on.

Speaker 2 (45:55):
I mean the Mavericks. Of course, we're down ninety one.

Speaker 1 (45:58):
To forty six, and halftime you got locker Room took
that well of I mean a lot of guys missed,
a lot of guys set that game out. But like
the Mavericks are just trying to hang on.

Speaker 2 (46:11):
The Kings have won.

Speaker 1 (46:12):
They're ten and five since January first, and Daron Fox
has missed several of those games.

Speaker 2 (46:18):
So like the Kings are competitive.

Speaker 1 (46:20):
And now they're bringing in Zach Levine, who again we
spelled it out last week on the show, his paternity
leave lining up with the trade deadline, brilliant, what incredible planning.
He's just like profess professionalism. And that's so much of
the game is his professionalism. He shows up to work
and then they're like, you know what, I'm having my baby.
I'll be out until you trade me. Yes, that sounds great, Zach,

(46:43):
thank you, And like so yeah, the Kings are gonna
be in it. Also, by the way, Dave, we have
a report Jake Fisher saying the Sons are taking offers
on Kevin Durant.

Speaker 2 (46:51):
They're listening. That works for me. Okay, now does that
explain the Jimmy Butler stuff he does well.

Speaker 4 (46:57):
The Jimmy Butler stuff is getting tricky because Brad Biale
doesn't want to get traded.

Speaker 2 (47:01):
But if if Kevin Durant solves that problem.

Speaker 4 (47:07):
People saying that the Warriors made calls on Kevin Durant,
I want that, and especially after the Luca trade, I
think that we're kind of just at a point let's
just do it. Let's let's tempt fate. Let's throw chaos
into like into every NBA trade we can. I would

(47:28):
love to see Kevin Durant back with the Warriors. I
think it would be awesome. I don't think that they
would be good.

Speaker 1 (47:35):
Yeah, they would be better. They'd be better than the Mavericks.
I can't believe how much I hate what the Mavericks
dead like.

Speaker 2 (47:45):
I don't. I just hockets to do that.

Speaker 1 (47:48):
I mean, they have there are spontaneous fan monuments like
they're they're putting flowers and jerseys and posters. It's a
monument of grief and American Airlines Center and hatred.

Speaker 3 (48:06):
It's just like anti capitalism.

Speaker 2 (48:09):
There's a lot going.

Speaker 1 (48:10):
On in the world right now, and the Mavericks jumping
to the forefront of it, and like its just it's
pure outrage from the entire fan base. And like I mean,
I I worry we're all gigging up somehow. I've been
carried away with like group think on this. Like I
saw Kevin Pelton gave the mAbs an F in his
trade grade for ESPN, and I'm like, yeah, that's how

(48:33):
I feel. It's the word it's worse trade imaginable. But
like I mean, the Mavericks will they got good players
this year. We'll see, we'll see what happens.

Speaker 2 (48:42):
Oh yeah, let me ask Keners.

Speaker 4 (48:45):
Yeah yeah, so let me ask you though, Like, look,
we're all in on the Luca trade.

Speaker 2 (48:49):
Uh yeah.

Speaker 3 (48:50):
If the Mavericks win the title this.

Speaker 2 (48:52):
Year, yeah, we're all we're all changed. Yes, of course,
just one.

Speaker 1 (48:59):
So one title is an but it's not gonna happen
so well.

Speaker 3 (49:03):
So I understand, I understand.

Speaker 2 (49:05):
Yes, yes is the answer.

Speaker 3 (49:07):
If you ever feel.

Speaker 4 (49:08):
Keith like you woke up in a parallel universe all
the time, right, this is one of those that's kind
of how this tree.

Speaker 2 (49:14):
Every day for nine years.

Speaker 4 (49:15):
I'd say, yeah, yeah, there, but it's seriously, it really
does kind of wreck your worldview when you're day and
day out on this stuff and then one of the
few guys who's supposed to be untouchable gets moved.

Speaker 2 (49:30):
I feel like we shorted the Spurs their attention for
getting here.

Speaker 3 (49:34):
Oh yeah, oh yeah.

Speaker 2 (49:35):
I I don't know if I would.

Speaker 1 (49:39):
I still think here's here's one, here's one, Dallas fans,
I still think the Mavericks are better. I think Kyrie
and Ad plus PJ. Washington, I think the Mavericks are
better than the Spurs. Right now, I don't I don't
know why Devin Vessel and Keldon Johnson aren't better. It
seems like there, it seems like playing with Chris Paul
and Victor woman Yama would make them better, but they
look worse. Maybe it's just the fact that the games

(50:02):
actually matter for the first time for the Spurs in
several years.

Speaker 2 (50:05):
But I had a higher.

Speaker 1 (50:06):
Opinion of those guys before this year, and this year
every time I watched them I'm like, what do you do?
And it's just like, I mean, Castle's great, like Plick sohand,
but also Fox does not alleviate the biggest concern for
me now on that team, who's making three pointers?

Speaker 2 (50:23):
Who's your high volume three point shooter?

Speaker 1 (50:25):
Like I know, for Swimmy, it's supposed to be Yeah,
it's Wimby, and it's supposed to be Fazelle.

Speaker 3 (50:29):
But like, you know, that's the problem.

Speaker 4 (50:32):
Right, So Visell and Kelton Johnson like they're playing in
such different roles the last couple of seasons. I think
this is the thing with tanking teams when these guys
and they get used to having the ball in their
hands all the time instead of learning how to kind
of play and function around a hub that they're trying
to do. Now, Vassell was a guy who coming into
the season needed to learn how.

Speaker 3 (50:51):
To play off the ball. Yeah you know, he just
hadn't been as good.

Speaker 1 (50:56):
Yeah, So I don't I don't know how much this
pushes the Spurs up this season.

Speaker 2 (51:00):
Them trying to chase down.

Speaker 1 (51:02):
The play in is I guess a goal, But also
it's if they miss it, it's no big deal.

Speaker 2 (51:06):
You get that draft, You get that draft. Pick and
you build for next year, and so the Spurs. I
think the price.

Speaker 1 (51:12):
We talked about this on last week's show, where I'm like, what,
I don't know if I get it for the Spurs
to go ahead and use your draft capital to bring
him in now. But like second round picks are fungible,
you can get more. They did trade too useful first
that maybe who knows the twenty twenty seven their own
First you expect to be good, so maybe you don't
worry about it. A twenty to thirty one. I believe
Timberwolves that.

Speaker 2 (51:32):
Could be good.

Speaker 1 (51:33):
Yeah, that risk seems worth it to get Fox in
the door. You know, we'll see how it plays out.
Let's actually, uh, let's take a break and then we'll
come back into the awards segment of the program and
wrap up the show. All right, Dave, let's take a
break from the trade talk to do the International Stackhouse
of Pancakes Award, given to the worst performance in a

(51:54):
box score over the past five days. We have three
on mentions. Klay Thompson, Nick Smith Junior and k J.
Simpson won for ten are three nominees. Pala Bencaro in
a loss to the Jazz four for nineteen. Oh, the
Magic are struggling bad ye Palla ben Kara was four
for nineteen, nine points, six rebounds, six assists, two steals,

(52:17):
one block, three turnovers. Kyle Kuzma in a loss to
the Lakers three for fourteen. Oh, congratulations Wizards winning a
basketball game. Negative congratulations to the Timberwolves. Kyle Kuzma three
for fourteen, thirteen points, three rebounds, one assists, no steals,
no blocks, no turnovers, no personal fouls. Perhaps try good

(52:40):
lord man. And then Andrew Wiggins in a loss to
the Suns six for twenty. He did have seventeen points,
eight rebounds, six assists, two steals, one block, no turnovers,
one personal foul.

Speaker 2 (52:53):
That's just a good game anyways. Dave Pallo, I think
runs away with it.

Speaker 1 (52:58):
Four for nineteen, nine points, six rebounds, six assists. Congratulations
pallor Dave. Before we get out of here, I feel
like we do need to recognize a couple of things.

Speaker 2 (53:08):
Yes, that the.

Speaker 3 (53:09):
Bucks are getting there.

Speaker 4 (53:12):
This trade deadline is absolutely the Bucks.

Speaker 1 (53:18):
The Cup run made them look too good their schedule.
For me, the Bucks have just been the thirteenth best
team all year, where I'm like, maybe I thought they
were worse the first ten.

Speaker 2 (53:30):
Games, Like they're not that good. They cannot guard on
the perimeter.

Speaker 1 (53:34):
They they ran into the Grizzlies team that just wants
to isolate you one on one and beat your guy,
you know, and it happened every single time.

Speaker 2 (53:41):
And like Tami Lower.

Speaker 1 (53:43):
Can't guardenybody, Jaron looks amazing, Taarian Prince can't guarden your
body like Lopez's. He's not guarding on the perimeter. And
so it was stuff. No, I want to say, the
best record in the NBA since January first, the Pacers
eleven and two. We see you also Verry, notably Dave.
Since January first. The Raptors are nine and seven. The

(54:05):
Trailblazers are nine and eight. We talked about them last episode.
Trailblazers are a fun watch. They are playing hard. Also,
the Pelicans, they suffered the de Jonte Murray injury. Just
devastating blow for Dejonte, But the Pelicans have been winning games.
They're actually seven and nine, yeah, in the since January first,
so those teams are all playing well and yeah in anyways,

(54:26):
and now the trade deadline's Thursday, I mean, the Bucks
gonna do something. The Warriors are acting like they're gonna
do something. If the Suns are willing to trade Durant,
there's still the Sons are ten games over five hundred
when Durant plays, So like, what did you expect? You're good?
I mean, I don't know. Now they found out Luca
Dante was available, I mean, what the so the would

(54:48):
the Mavericks woud Nico Harrison have traded Dantag for Kevin Durant?

Speaker 3 (54:51):
See, I don't. I don't think so, because the.

Speaker 2 (54:54):
Sun the Sons would have. Yes, the Sons would have.

Speaker 4 (54:57):
The Suns would but at least Anthony David. You think
you're gonna get a.

Speaker 3 (55:03):
Couple of seasons.

Speaker 1 (55:03):
It's Anthony Davis a better player than Kevin Durant. No, yeah,
I don't know. It's very close.

Speaker 3 (55:11):
I don't know if it's close. I don't know it's close,
but it's not close.

Speaker 2 (55:14):
I mean, Kevin, Kevin Durant is the superior officive player.

Speaker 3 (55:18):
Right right, and ad is by far the better defender.
It's closer. It's closer than I guess I want to admit.

Speaker 1 (55:24):
But if you're the Suns, when you trade Devin Booker
for Luca dontic have Luca doctor Luca, Kevin Durant.

Speaker 4 (55:32):
Yes, the list of guys like, I don't know, man,
it's like seven or eight guys that you don't make
that trade for. And but it's for reasons like you said,
it's because Jannis is the Milwaukee Bucks and the Bucks
are Yannis.

Speaker 3 (55:46):
Luca was the Mavericks.

Speaker 2 (55:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (55:49):
Anyways, trade deadline is Thursday. We're gonna see a lot
of movement. It seems like the Heat want to do stuff.
Of course, the Lakers probably need to bolster still. It'll
be a lot of fun to monitor. But that's all
for today, Dave, thanks so much for hanging out.

Speaker 2 (56:06):
What a show.

Speaker 1 (56:07):
Emergency trade episode slash the regular scheduled Monday shows back
perhaps for who knows how long. Anyways, scheduling is tough everybody,
but thank you for listening. You guys are the best,
and remember breakfast is the most important thing.
