(00:00):
This episode is sponsored by Petra Kulp. Hello and welcome back to Film Pro,
Productivity and Success, the podcast thathelps creative people to live a more
focused, effective and happy life.My name is Carter Ferguson and this is
episode one three five three new DemiDemi motivational messages. Don't wait until everything

(00:32):
is just right. It will neverbe perfect. There will always be challenges,
obstacles, and less than perfect conditions. So what get started now?
With each step you take, youwill go stronger and stronger, more and
more skilled, more and more selfconfident, and more and more successful.
Mark Victor Hansen unquote. So hellofolks, how you doing, and welcome

(00:56):
back once again. As I saidin the intro to Film Pro, Productivity
and Success, I really do appreciateyou giving me your time and your energy
and listening to the show each weekand possibly learning a little something from the
show every now and again too aswell. And in last week's show,
I looked at how to give andtake advice, which is not something everyone

(01:17):
is particularly good at doing, andI also delivered twelve pieces of the best
advice that listeners and social media followershave ever heard and that they presented to
me, So go back and havea listen if you think that's something you
could learn from. But in themeantime, let's crack on with three more
lessons from Internet and TikTok Sensation DemiDemi. No matter how many mistakes you

(01:42):
make or how slow you progress, you're still way ahead of everyone who isn't
trying. Tony Robbins unquote. Now, those of you who have not heard
a Demi Demi episode before, DemiDemi is best known for saying, tough
times never last, only tough peoplelast. And he said millions and millions

(02:07):
of people watching this little video thathe did. But every day, almost
certainly a good number of times aweek, he releases other pieces of advice
and motivational messages for people to listento. And he does it on Tik
TikTok, Tik Tak, tik Takor TikTok whatever you want, and he
does it on YouTube as well,And so that's where I've taken these ones

(02:30):
from. But he is an interestingcharacter, that is, he has an
extremely extremely difficult accent to follow sometimesand I've got to be honest, today's
episode has been one of the toughestones that I've put together because I have
had to listen to these many, many many times to derive what is actually
being said. I do get akind of a transcription through YouTube of it,

(02:53):
but this is an this is theInternet. The technology has come up
with this transcriptions something that Demi Demihimself has written. And maybe it's just
a nice Scottish air, but Ifind his accent particularly difficult to listen to.
But his messages are really really strong, and he's a great laugh and

(03:13):
I really do enjoy sharing them withyou, or at least re sharing them
with you, because they are allDemi Demi's content. Really, But this
is a show I like to doonce per season, and today I've got
three new ones for you, andthe first one is don't tell people what
you're doing and until it is time. So are you ready, then listen

(03:36):
to this. Listen to this attentively. Listen. I want to tell people
what you are doing, Auntie apaym achievement. Invite some you no downfallies
because you talk some fuel you downfalliesbecause Jasvovozella, you're talking unnecessary information to

(04:04):
the wrong people. Don't tell peoplewhat you are doing. Anti is done.
I'm going to oversee applying for thisand don't tell people who what you
are doing ANTI is done. JSalvovozella. That's the problem, oh La

(04:30):
leave me. Some of you you'redown for it is because you're talking too
much. You're talking unnecessary information, some bad don't tell people who what you're
doing anti is a paymentchualchment, inviteirrespect. So then yeah, that's demi

(04:57):
demi. And if you haven't heardone of these shows before, yes,
that that is what you have toexpect for another two of these things.
I think he's got some great lessonshere. A lot, as I say,
I like to reiterate what he's sayingfor clarity because it's a strong accent
that we're hearing and what he's sayingwithin this and say, I do spend
quite a lot of time trying toderive exactly what he's saying. But the

(05:19):
words he just spoke there were Don'ttell people what you're doing until it is
time. A premature achievement invites evilspirit. Some of you your downfall is
because you're talking too much. Someof you your downfall is because you're talking
unnecessary information to the wrong people.Don't tell people what you're doing until it

(05:40):
is time. Some of you, your downfall is because you're talking too much.
You're talking unnecessary information the power.Don't tell people what you're doing until
you start. A premature achievement invitesdisrespect the power. And this is another
valuable lesson being don't tell anyone whatyou're doing. I think until it's done.

(06:02):
He does mention until you've started, which I don't think is consistent what
he's saying there. I think whathis point is is, don't tell anyone
what you're doing until it's done.Outside energy can throw off your goals.
Is Another point is he has noticedin his world that there are people out
there that have negative intentions and don'twant you to succeed, and they will

(06:24):
wish you harm, and that initself can actually affect the outcome of your
situation. That's his point there. But when I was researching this episode,
there's a little bit more to thatas well. I came across this information
from doctor Peter ambishon PhD. Andhe says that the first rule of accomplishing
goals is not to tell anyone aboutthem, which I thought was very interesting.

(06:47):
He performed a study of cognitive neuroscienceand noted that when you set challenging
long term goal for yourself, thatthe fewer people that you tell, the
greater your chances are of actually achievingthat goal, which is to me,
you know that as a productivity gayI found absolutely fascinating. Many people believe,
in fact that a public declaration willincrease the likelihood that you'll accomplish the

(07:12):
chosen goal, but doctor Vishton hedisagrees. He says the reason why telling
people about your goal as a problemis that when you when they give you
positive support, you get a littlebit of that sense of accomplishment, and
that it basically amounts to a pleasurabledopamine boost. And he says that there's
nothing as inherently satisfying as setting andachieving goals. So by all means,

(07:38):
set goals and chase them, butif you want to improve your chances of
achieving them, that it be asurprise to your friends unless by telling them
they can provide you with the propersupport and accountability. So bear that in
mind too the next time that youdecide to make a move, rather than
make a goal or set a goal, rather than motivating you to succeed,

(07:59):
telling people about what your next bigidea is could instantly rob you of your
motivation. It's not Demidemi's point. His point is that there are negative people
in the world and they will tryto disrupt what you're doing. And is
a very well point well made, but it's another point worth making. As
I say, it came up ina research and I found it really quite

(08:20):
interesting. And next one up herefrom Demi Demi. His point here is
stay on your lane. It doesn'tmean if they have more follow us than
you, they are better to stayonly. That's why you see there's no
composition. Would who it who itdoes matter choose their price just to compete

(08:43):
with the ant The quality will alwaysbe quality. That's why people are doing
scilly things. They're so care followus. That's why people that are destroyed
their dignity just because they want tobe recognice. Stay on your hey,
there's no competition for who who doesnot really choose their pies just to accommodate

(09:07):
or maybe to competee anty. Stayon your got destroyed, that the identity
get destroyed, the dignity just becausesomebody wanted to see himself having fifteen fifteen
million and likes all oh use orfollow us, stay on your I will
always be And this was a toughone, folks. This, Oh my

(09:39):
god. I listened to this. It's gonna be thirty times. I listened
to it. But I think Ifigured out what he's saying here in his
example. A lot of it Icould follow, but I didn't know what
the company example he was given was. And I have figured it out.
So here is what I believe heis saying. In that one, he's
saying stay stay on on your lane. I would say stay in your lane.

(10:01):
He says stay on your lane. And this is his words that I
like to give, rather than myinterpretation of them. I'd like to do
this first. It doesn't mean ifthey have more followers than you that they
are better than you. Stay onyour lane. That's why you see there's
no competition with Hoover. It's Hoover, he's saying. I'm certain it's Hoover.
Hoover does not reduce their price justto compete with others. The quality

(10:24):
will always be quality. That's whypeople are doing scary things. That's okay,
follow us. That's why people aredestroying their dignity just because they want
to be recognized. Stay on yourlane. There is no competition for Hoover.
Hoover does not reduce their price justto accommodate or maybe to compete with

(10:45):
other things. Stay on your lane. That destroyed either the identity, they
are destroying their dignity just because somebodywants to see himself having fifteen million likes
or views or followers. Stay onyour lane. Quality will always be quality
the power. That really took melonger than you think, folks, to

(11:07):
get that one down. But thatis pretty much what he is saying there,
and it's it's a good point.It's it's an interesting point, and
he's obviously talking about it from aYouTuber TikToker point of view. He's trying
to stay true to what he wantsto do and deliver his daily motivational messages
and not be distracted by these otherpeople who are getting bigger and bigger numbers

(11:30):
than him, because he's not willingto lose his dignity while delivering what he's
doing, even though he does itin kind of a silly but a very
unique way. Stay in your lane, of course, means the way I
would probably know it in my worldis stay on target, stay focused or
on track. When there are distractionsor there's danger about, don't let what

(11:54):
other people are doing divert you fromyour own goals and dreams and way of
doing things. If you know what'sthe most important to you, you can
stay in your lane and achieve greatthings. Don't be distracted by other people's
supposed successes and then change your plans. You know, derail yourself by trying

(12:15):
to do what someone else is doing. Focus on doing the best that you
can. And that's his second point. Stay on your lane. Next up,
it's the final one for today, and it's some rejections in life are
a blessing to listen to us.Listen to some rejection in life. I'm

(12:37):
blessing in disguise. Some regician inlife are pushing us to our destiny.
Listening to the sect. Allow peopleto reject to your life, Allow people
to do to hold himself, tohold himself and leave you because they are
pushing you to destiny. Benny mccattowas the reject it and fired by Amazu.

(13:01):
IFC today was appointed or now hewas appointed as a striker coach for
Men United in England. He's eatingthe pound he's coaching one of the greatest
player in the world. That's howrejection are pushing us a life. Allow

(13:22):
people to reject you so that youcan preach your distance. Today's basically pounded
in. They can't even afford himnow because now he's focusing on the pound.
And there you go. Your earsprobably tuned in now to what's getting

(13:43):
said, and it's it's a veryvery good point, a very good point.
Some rejections, this is my transcriptionof what he's saying. Some some
rejections in life are a blessing indisguise. Some rejections in life are pushing
us to our destiny. Listen tothis attentively. Allow people to reject you
in life. Allow people to holdback themselves and leave you because they are

(14:05):
pushing you to your destiny. BennyMcCarthy was rejected and fired by AmaZulu FC.
Today was appointed now was appointed asstriker coach for Man United in England.
He's eating the pound, that's whathe's saying. He is coaching one
of the greatest players in the world. That's how rejection are pushing us in

(14:26):
life. Allow people to reject youso that you can reach your destiny.
Today they can't even afford him nowbecause now he is focusing on the pound,
the power, the power. Greatpoint. You might think the rejection
means that you're not good enough, but rejection can mean that you're better than

(14:48):
whatever or whoever has rejected you.And rejection is just another word for redirection.
There's quotes out there about that one, but that's it's a fairly good
way of looking at it, becauseit's not reject and that puts you down.
It's the way you handle it.You can either get discouraged or think
that something is wrong with you,or you can believe that it's a blessing
in disguise, preparing you for somethingbigger than what you wanted for yourself.

(15:13):
And I'm obviously making this point becausethis is a podcasting that creative people and
rejection, certainly in the world Iwork in live and you've tried to work
in filmmaking wise, has been thickand fast. It's it's fueled a number
of episodes of this. I've gotto that point in an in a minute.
But you know, it's it's justwhat life is like here. There's

(15:37):
nobody is standing there with a wholevat of money asking me to direct a
film for them, for example. And I have tried a number of times,
but each time I don't get somewhere. I think I kind of sometimes
I take the hit and I feelit and other times ago you know what,
I'm going to use that, andI'm going to fuel use that.

(15:58):
It's fuel to achieve bigger and betterthings. And that's kind of one of
the points I'm going to come upwith. Now I've get I think ten
or eleven or maybe twelve points hereof why rejection is not a bad thing.
First one is, when you're rejected, it helps you to realize that
you're not perfect. Second is itsometimes gives you a much needed reality check.

(16:22):
If you think you're running with thingsand everything's going well, sometimes that
rejection is going to put you onthe back foot and make you actually reassess
things and hard times push you tofight for what you want. That's a
kind of point from earlier. Rejectionmakes you want to prove people wrong.
It makes you aggressive in a goodway. So Vester Salone's get a quote,
but the seas is I take rejectionas someone blowing a bugle in my

(16:47):
year to wake me up and getgoing. Rather than to retreat, and
that is definitely a good head spaceto have heads head space to have with
this. Another thing is that itwarms you up for the idea of rejection
after taking away the fear of it. That makes sense, so you are
more likely to move ahead after rejectionafter several rejections than without fear than if

(17:14):
you everything was going well and thenyou suddenly hit a rejection, then that
could completely stop you. Another pointwould be you learned to take feedback seriously.
You realize that you cannot please everyone. That's that's something I learned a
long time ago. Another one ishardships teach you the importance of improvement and
how it's a process that continues throughoutlife. I mean, I'm at a

(17:37):
stage in my life now where Iwould probably at least as much at least
the way I remember, at leastas much rejection as I've had successes.
So I suppose it does limit mein what I am willing to spend my
time on. But I don't getupset by it as much because frankly,
I go into things expecting for myideas or my projects to be rejected.

(18:03):
It's just a point that I reachedI mean I stopped applying funding, oh,
twelve years ago, something that thirteenyears and kicking thirteen years ago because
I knew I wasn't going to getit. I mean, they told me
I wasn't going to get it.I've been I've talked about that in a
number of episodes. So I valuemy time more than filling in a form
that I know I'm going to getrejected from. It's kind of slightly off

(18:26):
point, but I've learned from itas the point anyway, Another thing,
the hardships teach you the importance ofimprovement, and oh yeah, that's the
one I've just read. Hardships teachyou the importance of improvement and how it's
a process that continues through life.I am still I am still improving myself
even though I ceased to seek funding. I'm still trying to do things better
and better. The short film I'vejust done, tried to make it better.

(18:48):
I'm still got my struggles with it. It's still got my problems with
it. I've still got things I'mlearning from it. But I didn't let
my constant rejection that I've had stoppedme from shooting it. The second last
thing I've got here is rejection introducesyou to your true friends. Yeah,
so your true friends will stand byyou even though you're not doing so well.

(19:08):
It's the point they're one, andthe last one I've got on a
list here is you learn the artof patience. And I think I'm definitely
more patient now than I used tobe. That helps being a freelancer that
has to sit and not getting worksometimes and I have to have the faith
that somewhere down the line I willget work. But yeah, you learn

(19:29):
the art of patience. That's thelast I have them at my list here.
Rejection obviously makes you a stronger personas well. It changes you and
teaches you not to be afraid offear. It makes you a lot more
humble as well. In fact, studies reveal that human beings don't become stronger
when everything they're doing is fine forthem. They get stronger when they deal
with unpredictable situations. And I supposethe final point I should make is that

(19:53):
rejection teaches you that the only approvalyou really need is your own, and
once you have that, nothing elsematters. A link to all of Demidemi's
YouTube channel. Specific links in theshow notes if I can get that sentence

(20:15):
to work. So check out theshow notes and you'll get full show notes
on the on film Pro Productivity theofficial site only film Proproductivity dot com.
But I'll probably put these little linksinto the show notes that go along with
the media host as well, sothey should be on like iTunes or whatever

(20:37):
you're listening to this on. Butyeah, I hope you've got something this.
I really enjoy doing the Demidemi episodes. I tend to get very good
feedback about them. But at themoment I'm not getting too much feedback from
from anyone. I wonder, isanyone out there's anyone listening. I'm getting
a little bit on social media, but it's really next to nothing. Just
a note on social media is I'mgoing to go and take another social media

(20:59):
break at the end of this month. This is going out in February.
The eleven I think is this isgoing to out in So the end of
this month, I'm going to gooff social media for another month or two.
I'll probably jump back on to talkabout the the short film that I'm
working on because there's a lot ofpeople kind of invested of time and money.
Some of them in it, andso I'll keep some things going out

(21:21):
on that, but I won't beon regular social media. And please remember
as well that you can join meon YouTube now. The episodes are going
out twice per week on Wednesday nightsand Saturday nights, and it's basically the
back episodes that are out there, and they're scheduled to go out to like
the middle of twenty twenty four. But there's content there going out. It's
really easy to access and it's freeto everyone. I will be hiring somebody

(21:44):
to help me promote that stuff atsome point, but that's not happening right
now. I am on that.I am actively looking for somebody to help
me with it. So yeah, there will be a big push on it
somewhere down the line, but pleasecheck it out. Just look up film
pro Productivity on YouTube and I'm sureyou'll find it. But I'll put a
link in the show notes obviously. Now and next week's show i'll be talking

(22:07):
about I believe I'll be going todo that. I haven't written this episode
yet, but I believe i'll betalking about some maybe at all, but
some of the lessons I've learned sofar in doing a creative project in twenty
twenty three. Yes, I'll betalking about lessons learned while filming my short
festive horror film, The Traveler.I've learned a few things, I've had
a few things confirmed for me,and I think there's probably an episode worth

(22:29):
in it that I'm going to tryand make broad enough that anyone can listen
and learn from it rather than betwo specific one filmmakers. But we'll see
how that one turns out. Butyeah, reminding check out that YouTube channel.
But for now, I'm going toend with some words from not from
Demi Demi this time, but fromAlbert Schweitzer, who said success is not

(22:49):
the key to happiness. Happiness isthe key to success. If you love
what you're doing, you will besuccessful. Now take control of your own
destiny, keep on shooting, andjoin me next time on Film pro Productivity
and Success. The music that youcan hear right now is Adventures by Ahimitsu

(23:17):
