Speaker 1 (00:02):
The following is in Nova Scotia You eighteen Major Hockey
League Intermission Interview.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
We're joined by a couple of defensemen for the March
Midical Hunters. I referenced earlier in the game that two
of the main pieces on defense for the Hunter is
not available this evening. Dawson Swift with the injury to
the left hand, and of course Schaeffer Gibbs serving game
one of a three game suspension for fighting. So first
of all, let me start off with you, Dawson. How's
the injured hand, what's the recovery like? And how you
(00:32):
doing right now? Doing good?
Speaker 3 (00:34):
I mean I had surgery on last Monday, all went
well and got a weekend.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
Just five more left and it should be good to go.
And let me ask you, Schaeffer, how difficult is it
right now to be up here in the press box
and watching your mates play this game.
Speaker 4 (00:49):
It's a little bit difficult, but it's more seeing the
perspective from the outside of the game, from the stands
and being able to take it to the guys in
the locker room and let them know and give them ideas.
And up on the ice.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
As mentioned, both of you are very strong and steady
defenders important pieces for this March and mill Coole Hunter's team.
But when you're not in the lineup, what kind of
things can you say and help your teammates with when
you're not in the lineup.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
I think just positivity, to be honest, you know, like
giving a guy a pat on the back, you know,
telling him he needs to do this better, he's doing
this good. You know. I feel like just encouraging them
well and confidence and you know, postivities.
Speaker 4 (01:25):
Key and for you Schaeffer, trying to boost their confidence
and get their confidence all the way up so they
can play to their best. Is that's that's the main
goal when you're not in the lineup, trying to hype
a guy up and get them ready.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
Maybe just the word about your goaltender, Colby O'Shaughnessy. Through
forty minutes, the Max have got four, but it could
be certainly way more than that for the Max if
not for the fantastic stellar goaltending of O'Shaughnessy.
Speaker 4 (01:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
What are you seeing from your goaltending teammate tonight?
Speaker 3 (01:53):
Yeah, I know he looks really good in between the pipes.
I've enjoyed watching him right now when.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
You're back on d I know f's been a lot
of times like to have little chats with their goaltender
and stoppage and stuff. Is it O'Shaughnessy? Is he a
chatty guard? Does he have much to say?
Speaker 4 (02:07):
He's a great chatty guy. You can rely on him
on a two on one. You know you're yelling back,
take the shot, take the shower, and it like he's
always there for he's talking to you in between whistles.
He's letting you know in the plays where to go,
whether there's.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
A puck gun in that.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
He's always letting you know what to do.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Always interesting to know about those conversations. And of course
an emotional night here, this evening outside the matchup between yourselves,
the Hunters and the Max, celebrating the life of JP
McCallum's daughter, Cela. You know, JP, your head coach. I
know you're all very familiar with Cela and what she
meant to this team. What are your emotions Dawson tonight
(02:44):
playing this game in honor of Seila.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
You know, it's it's it's a hard it's a hard
thing to you know, doing it, and it's definitely been
a hard thing for our team to deal with, but
I mean the hockey community coming out here tonight and
showing support. It means a lot to not just the
team here, but I know JP himself and you know
it's been a it's been a a good good night.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
Same thing for you, Schaeffer. The rest of the year.
Speaker 4 (03:10):
I will always step on the ice and play for
JP and his family, and this also shows the spreads
awareness to the other hockey families and that are going
through these types of situations.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
Very well said by both of you, young men. I'll
wrap up with you here in a second. But part
of the hockey community support, I've mentioned it in the
broadcast and it's been on social media in the last
twenty four hours, but it's longtime friend of JP McCallum,
Brad Marshan coming in to coach on the bench site,
Andrew Bodnerchuck Justin Smith and Jeff marshand. When you see
(03:47):
that and you get a chance to see those caliber
of players being that supporting the hockey community as young
men yourselves, what kind of message does that give you, Schaeffer.
I'll go with you first.
Speaker 4 (03:59):
Yeah, No, having him on the bench and in the
dressing room, it gives you energy and lots of wanting
to play the game.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
Like when you see.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
Him as he's a big role model to a bunch
of the guys, and that's really getting the guys up.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
And what about for you, Dawson, I think just the experience.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
It really shows in the way they talk in the
room and and it just gets your revved up, like
you're you're here a speech by one of them, You're
really you're ready to go.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
The interesting thing too, I was down talking to your
coaching staff priorday the game, you know, just going over
lineups and all that kind of stuff. And to see
brad mershand in there with the whiteboard drawing stuff up
was pretty cool. What's it like seeing him on the
bench back there for your boys. It's it's really cool.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
It's it's a you know, it's something that not every
team gets the experience, and I wish everyone really did.
It's it's a really cool thing, and it's really nice
to have him here, Schaefer.
Speaker 4 (04:52):
You get to experience a different type of coaching style
coming from an actual player who's still playing the game
this day, and you get to understand the way that
he's thinking the plays and he's drawing up on the whiteboard.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
Well listen, Dawson and Shaefer. We appreciate your time. Two
great players, but two better young men. We appreciate your time,
and we wish your team good luck in the third
and look forward to seeing you bet guys back on
the ice soon. Thank you very much. There it is.
That's two big defenders for this marcha Milcowe, Huntersteen, Dawson,
Swift and Shaefer gives. We certainly appreciate their time. The
(05:26):
team's back on the ice, ready to jam with the
future of hockey.
