Speaker 1 (00:02):
The following is in Nova Scotia You eighteen Major Hockey
League intermission interview.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Welcome back to the Halifax for them. After twenty minutes
of play, the home side Halifax Max lead the visiting
Valley Wildcats two one Greue please be joined by the
head coach of the Halifax Max. I don't want to
make you feel old, Tim, but long time head coach
of the Max, Tim, your thoughts on that first twenty
credit value?

Speaker 3 (00:27):
You know, they came out hard and we're for checking
heart on our had.

Speaker 4 (00:31):
Us on our heels a little bit, and you know,
we just got to find another level. I think we
had an emotional game there Sunday and just we're a
little slow out of the gates.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Yeah, it has been a very fast paced first period,
no question about it. What will the message from the
coaching staff to the boys be or do you even
need to say anything?

Speaker 3 (00:49):
Yeah, we're just gonna stop cutting the ice in half.
I think we only made them come half off.

Speaker 4 (00:54):
The length of the ice first period. We had a
lot of bad turnovers. We're not moving our feet and
just putting bucks behind them to get the get the
poor check going.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
Whenever I call games with this club. I always comment
how tenacious this team is, how hard you guys are
on the puck, and how you can roll four lines.
You're undefeated on the season sixteen and zero. As you
break it all down, what would you say have been
one or two real main reasons to the team's success
so far?

Speaker 4 (01:21):
I wes just have good kids that are buying into
what we're trying to preach here. And you know, uh,
it takes everybody to win at this level. You can't
play three lines and forty and.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
Expect to have success.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
So you know, we're just we're putting trust in the
in the players and they're going out and doing it
on the ice.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
And how about trusting your goaltending tandem of Chandler Bell
and Kale Campbell undefeated? Maybe just a word or two
about those two guys.

Speaker 4 (01:48):
Yeah, listen, obviously I've hat Chandler for three years now,
one of the hardest workers in practice, just a real
good kid. You know, Kale's come in and played exceptionally
well as well, and uh, you know, he's starting to
learn practice habits and details and what it takes in practice,
and he's been He's been really good for us as well.
So it's always good to have two goalies that you

(02:10):
can count on.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
And you mentioned Kale Campbell. He's on quite a tournament streak.
He had a great tournament up in Ottawa at the
Senator's U eighteen tournament, had a great Monctonian. Does he
even know about this tournament streak that he's got going,
tim And what kind of things do you say to
about it?

Speaker 4 (02:25):
I don't talk to goalies, to be honestly, I leave
that to the goalie coaches that we have.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
We got Liam Moxsner here, He's really good.

Speaker 4 (02:31):
But yeah, Cale said to me like he loves tournament
style hockey, and uh, you know, I've been coaching this
level seventeen years.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
I've never seen anything like it.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
Mentioned those tournaments. I do want to talk a bit
about them because the Max showed so well for yourselves obviously,
but also for the Nova Scotia you eighteen Major Hockey League,
a silver, highest finish ever at the Senator's U eighteen tournament,
and then winning the Monctonian recently first time in a while.
What's been the key to this to the tournament?

Speaker 3 (03:00):
As coach?

Speaker 4 (03:01):
Yeah, again, I think it's just rolling four lines in
sixteen and having solid goaltending. You know, you gotta you
gotta play a lot of games in a short period
of time against good competition.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
You can't, can't shorten your bench too early.

Speaker 4 (03:12):
And uh, you know again, putting trust in the trusting
the players, it's the biggest thing.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
I think at this level. You just you have to
trust the kids.

Speaker 4 (03:19):
Yes, they're gonna make mistakes, you have to put them
back on the ice. And I think I think that's
what we do here.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
I hear you say quite often, You've said it in
this interview about kids having buy in at this level
with this team. What does buy and mean to you
in the coaching staff.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
Yeah, we've talked a lot about it this year.

Speaker 4 (03:36):
It's just it starts in practice with our practice habits
and pushing each other and holding each other to a
higher standard. You know, we've got some really good leaders
in our dressing room that have come up with a
list of standards that we want to live by this year.
And yeah, just just grind every day, trying to get
a little bit better every single game, doesn't matter who
we play. You know, we beat a team by seven

(03:57):
eight goals, show up to practice Tuesday and be ready
to have the work boots on.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
This is Hockey Fights Cancer Night, a nice ceremony prior
to the game, honoring all families who have dealt with cancer,
but certainly specifically Carter Meira, sixteen year old hockey player
who's been battling cancer, rang the bell recently to signify
the end of his treatments. He was here tonight. It
was great to see the teammates from the Max with Carter.

(04:24):
But what does a night like this mean to the
team and to the organization.

Speaker 4 (04:27):
I think it means something different to everybody. You know,
everybody has somebody in their lives that's had to fight
this horrible disease or you know, you've lost somebody to
this disease. You know, obviously Carter is an important piece
to our family here, and you know we've been along
with him for his journey and you know, I said
to him, he's he's lived an entire life basically in

(04:47):
about a year and a half, things that some people
just never experience. So you know, it's an important night
to continue to raise funds and spread awareness and you know,
just for people to celebrate some of those one people
that they've lost and people.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
That are going through the fight.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
I joked earlier that you are a longtime coach of
the Max, But you've been around this organization a long time,
tim What keeps motivating you, What keeps bringing you back
season after season?

Speaker 4 (05:15):
Just the dressing room, being in there with the kids
keeps you young, being on the ice, seeing their excitement
and enthusiasm, and you know, them chasing their dreams and
their goals.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
You know, I had my chance and I went through it.

Speaker 4 (05:28):
For me, it's just trying to provide the best program
and opportunity so these these young men can advance in
their hockey careers and their lives.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
Last one for you.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
You never know who's listening to our broadcast on FFM Radio.
But what would you want to say to someone that's
never been out to a Nova scoti U eighteen Major
Hockey League game in person as to why they should
come out and watch these young players up close and
in person.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
Great brand of hockey, if it's fast, it's physical, you
get a lot of the you know, future stars of
the Quebec League and Maritime Junior.

Speaker 4 (05:59):
League play in this you know, in this league, and
it's an affordable product, and uh yeah, it's really good hockey.

Speaker 3 (06:07):
Okim.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
We certainly appreciate you taking the time to come up
and sit here in the stands at the redline and
have a chat with us. Good luck the remainder of
this game and of course the rest.

Speaker 3 (06:15):
