Speaker 1 (00:02):
The following is in Nova, Scotia You eighteen Major Hockey
League Intermission interview.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Please to be joined by assistant coach from the Max,
Tony McCarthey. Tony, first of all, kind of your assessment
to the first two?

Speaker 3 (00:15):
Yeah, I thought we're coming out just playing our game.
You know, we like to play with speed and tempo,
and I think that's how we're doing. I'd like to
clean up the ozone a bit, just you know, ibs
some missed opportunities, but overall, we got to be happy
without forty minutes.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Talking to head coach Tim Boyce prior to the game,
he said one of the things he was wanting to
see was this team kind of shake off some rust
after not having played for two weeks since coming back
from the UA ten tournament in Ottawa. It looks like
you guys haven't missed a beat. But again, what's your assessment?
It turns up shaking off that rust for the Max.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
I think we're doing a good job. I mean, when
you're when you're off for a week and a half,
you know, it takes a you know, it takes a
bit to get into it. And I think, you know, our
first few shifts we we might have got beat around
a bit, but I thought overall, you know, you can't
complaining for the forty minutes.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
And maybe just a word on the goaltender that's opposing
you tonight. Coleby O'Shaughnessy in my estimation, has just been outstanding.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
Yeah, he's been fantastic. He's he's one of the top
fifteen year olds in the province and he's there for
a reason. So he's doing a heck of a job.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Always a lot of intensity and energy in the games
and the Nova Scohy a team major hockey league, but
obviously extra emotion tonight with the game celebrating the life
of JP McCallum's daughter Cela, who sadly passed away last week.
What kind of messaging, if anything, came from you and
the coaching staff to your side tonight knowing that there

(01:29):
was going to be emotion, you know, Brad mershand and
others on the bench for the Hunters supporting JP, but
kind of what was the messaging coach?

Speaker 3 (01:36):
Yeah, you know what, for us, it's just it shows
that what the hockey world's all about, it's more than
what happens on the ice and during you know, the
sixty minutes are playing. You just see the way that
people came out today to support you know. See, you know,
we try to obviously build good hockey players, but but
people overall, and seeing guys like Brad marsh Ander Bonner, Chuck,
Ryan Hill, you're over there, you know, coming back taking

(01:57):
time away from their professions, you know, being for hockey players.
It just shows what hockey's all about in the hockey world,
how close knit we are. And you know, to me,
it's you know, hockey's more than what happens on the ice,
and just you know, proud to be part of the
hockey family we have here in Nova Scotia and Canada overall.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
Very well said, We'll let you go here in just
a second, but I want to ask you about this
MAX team overall, great goaltending duo, solid defensively, aggressive forwards.
Anyone that's never seen this team, how would you describe
the MAX team identity.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
We just like to play fast, play physical, and just
make sure we're into it right away, you know, kind
of keep teams on their toes, and that's what we
try to do each and every night. You know, you
build teams from the back end and you nail that
we get two great goaltenders we can go to every night,
sixteen we can put in any position, and twelve fours
we can do the same with. So we just try to,
you know, build with depth.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
What do you want to see in the third period?

Speaker 3 (02:44):
Just come close the deal. You know it's a sixty
minute game. We played a good falllid forty so far.
You know, we get twenty to go.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
Thanks for your time and good luck in the third.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
Thanks so much.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
That is assistant coach Tony McCarthy from the Halifax Max.
His side leads it for nothing after two periods of play.
We appreciate his time.
