Speaker 1 (00:03):
The following Nova scotia U eighteen Major Hockey League game
is proudly presented by firm Foundation Media.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Let's head inside the rink.

Speaker 3 (00:13):
Good evening and welcome inside the historic Halifax Forum for
tonight's Nova scotia U eighteen Major Hockey League game between
the visiting March and Milco Hunters and the home side
Halifax Max. A special evening here tonight. We'll get to
more on that in just a little bit, but here
this evening. This is the first game for the Halifax
Max in a couple of weeks since they were at

(00:35):
the UA teen tournament up in Ottawa. They got a
silver medal there, so they'll have a little ring rust
to get off. Halifax Max committed this game nine oh
and oh good for eighteen points. And the March and
mill Co Hunters they've been getting better as the season
has gone along. Three wins twelve loss is good for
six points. But tonight, really it's about more than hockey.

(00:57):
It's about the hockey community supporting one another, coming together
and loving one another. Head coach of the March and
Milko Hunters, Jp McCallum sadly his young daughter Cela passed
away a few days ago. There'll be a celebration of
life for Cela tomorrow and tonight. Yes, there's a game

(01:18):
to play, but this is really all about the memory
of Cela and celebrating the joy that she brought to
so many and her memory will live on for all
of those who knew her. Brad marshand from the Florida
Panthers and several others including Andrew Badnerchuk, friends of JP McCallum,

(01:41):
are here this evening, taking time out of their busy
schedules to be behind the bench and coach this march
and mil Co Hunter's team supporting Ryan Hillier as well.
Of course, JP McCallum away from the team being with
family during this very difficult time, and we certainly sent
out our thoughts and prayers to JP McCallum and his

(02:03):
family and all who knew and loved Cela. Our thoughts
and prayers are with you. So just underway here at
the Forum the Max, they're wearing their home whites with
the McDonald's golden red. They're skating my left to right.
I'm up in the east side press box here at
the Halifax Forum and the marching Milkow Hunter's wearing their

(02:24):
road blacks with white trim. They're skating right to left.
Here comes Share now slides it across out of the stick.
There a good chance right in front as Love. It
was right on the doorstep, got fed the puck, just
couldn't tuck it in. Starting in goal for the March
and Milico Hunters. Colby O'Shaughnessy at the other end, it's
Kale Campbell for the Halifax Max. I'll get you their

(02:45):
numbers in just a moment again, just underway here on
a Wednesday night at the Halifax form a special night. Indeed,
Hunters now have that puck in their own zone. They'll
work it up towards neutralized. Ben it off the glass.
Sudds has it now, trying to get that puck ahead
of Remy Bellevo, who was in on the fore check

(03:05):
for the Hunters. Hunters change it up now as the
Max will work it out of their zone. Here's Fleming
right at the center. Rice Redline sends it in ahead.
Sullivan was racing in after it for the Max. Sullivan
now trying to get that pucket, got caught up in
the referee skates over there along the boards on the
far side, the puck will go in behind the Hunter's
goal now trying to challenge for it. There was fleming

(03:27):
for the Max. There's a quick chance there is. Uzachuku
took it from the left circle, got a quick shot away,
but no problem for O'Shaughnessy. I mentioned the two goaltenders
their numbers coming into this game. Colby O'Shaughnessy one wins,
six losses, a five to twenty one goals against average
in an eight seventy nine save percentage, max control. Off

(03:49):
the face off, there's Jaden Weston. Weston playing back on defense,
a sixteen year old affiliate player up seeing some time
with the big club. Here one of the steady defensemen
for the Max Jacks. Guinnish got the call up and
is playing with the Cape Breton Eagles tonight in the
Quebec Marriy Times Junior Hockey League. So a big moment

(04:10):
for Jacks and with Jacks getting the call up to
the Eagles, it is of course Jaden Weston getting the
call up from the King's U sixteen hockey club. So
one player gets the call up from the Max to
the Eagles, but then the Max call up a player
from Kings to the Max. That's how it works. Just

(04:32):
a couple of minutes gone. In this opening frame, Max
have the puck in the Hunter zone. Puck comes out
there towards Haverstock. Here's a quick shot. Bottomly, the leading
point getter on this Max team had a good chance
from that right circle, snapped it on goal and O'Shaughnessy
made the save. Talked about number fourteen for this Halifax

(04:56):
Max club. M J Autumnly having himself a whale of
a season six excuse me, eight goals, seven assists, good
for fifteen points and again leading the Max in scoring stoppage.
Now should mention as well having some issues with the
very old clock above sentaiser at the Halifax Forum and

(05:19):
the side that's facing me. So again, I'm in the
press box on the east side of the Halifax Forum
and the side of the clock that's facing me the
penalty time. The lights aren't working and there's a number
of bulbs out in the actual time clock counting down.
So there'll be a little guess work on my part

(05:41):
when it comes to actual time left and telling you
the penalty time as well. But that's okay, we'll figure
that out as we go along off a face off.
Now the Pucks will throw it down into the Hunter's
zone and the Hunter is able to clear it out
past the blue line tree when we'll chase after it
now getting right into his pocket was Urkha for the Hunters.

(06:03):
Max have the puck in their own zone, working up
with it now his logan tree win steady defender for
this Max team. Puck turned over. Morris tried to jump
on it, but Bottomly steals it away in his own
zone for the Max. Here's odell from the Max into
the ice, puts it up into neutral ice and now
it's chipped down into the zone where Haverstock will chase
after it. Bottomley couldn't reach that loose puck and the

(06:25):
Hunters will grab it and send it out of the zone.
Down comes Morris racing down the left side, cuts in
toward them, throws it in front. Big chance right there
as Morris scent it in front and not able to
convert was number fourteen Porter Kalita. But a good chance
right there. Come now trying to keep the puck in
the Max zone, but the Max will clear it out.

(06:49):
Just over four minutes played in the opening period, no
score here on a very special night in memory of
JP McCallum's daughter Cela. Again, Jp McCaw I'm the head
coach of this Hunter's team, and Sela, his daughter, was
battling illness for about a year and took her last

(07:09):
breasts according to the post that was on the Hunters'
socials this past Friday, and again there'll be a celebration
of life for her tomorrow. I would encourage you. That's Thursday,
October thirty. I would encourage you to follow along and
take a look at the March and Milkow Hunter Socials
to learn more about Cela, the person she was and

(07:31):
what she meant to obviously her family, but certainly to
this team and the league as well. Off a face
off puck in the Max zone, they'll chase it to
the boards on this near side, trying to work up
with it. There was liver. He skated over the puck
and right back the other way, jumping on a quickly
as looty for the Hunters, but he lost it and

(07:53):
the Max will take it away. Onto the puck is
Riley Kreelman Creem and wear's number four for the Max
as well as the captain's on his left shoulder. Here's
a nice move right in backhander. They score a beautiful
move right in front and it's the defenceman Gavin Sudds,
with just a great move in tight and slides it

(08:16):
underneath the goaltender O'Shaughnessy and Sudds has his first goal
love the season. He had ten assists coming in. But
that's goal number one for Gavin Sudds and the Max
lead it won nothing. So first of the year for

(08:37):
mister Sudds, first in the game and the MAX lead
at won nothing. That goal coming with just a little
over five minutes played. Again, if you're just joining us,
some of the bulbs on the score clock that's facing
the press box that I'm in are burnt out, So
doing my best to guess what the time is. Here's

(08:59):
love it now. I was taking a big hit, was
Jaden Weston? That affiliate player took a big thump in
behind his own goal. But he's up and okay Weston
wearing number nine, no name bar on his jersey, but
he's out there right now in front of his own goal,
and he'll watch his teammates lug that puck out of
the zone. Here's strong now on the right side, has

(09:22):
sharer in the middle, gets it to Share, who peels
off to the right. Sharer down and behind the goal
in the hunter's end of the ice. Max will work
it back to the left point. It goes just underneath bootleer.
Now a chance two on one. Hunter's coming it over too, Oh,
a big chance. As Remmy Bellavo came down on the

(09:42):
left side of the two on one. He was fed
the puck and just couldn't settle it. Maxwell. Send that
puck down into the hunter's zone and make changes on
the fly. Hunters send that puck all the way down
into the Max end of the ice and that will
be an icing call. So again I mentioned you know,
it's a special night here. A lot of heavy hearts,

(10:04):
but also a lot of love in the building as
the hockey community coming together and wrapping their arms around
JP McCallum and the rest of Sela's family and joining
Brad Marchhand on the bench, former moosehead Andrew Bodnerchuk as
well as Justin Smith and Jeff Marchhand. So again, just

(10:26):
a outpouring of love and support from the hockey community
as well as JP McCallum's friends. Here's Hawko now skating
up from his defensive position for the Hunters, puck into
the corner. Hunters has have it down in the magzone.
Breen tried to get that puck sent down in front
and Treewan just kicked at it with the right skate

(10:46):
to put it right back in behind the goal. Good
pressure here from the Hunters in the magzone. Just a
little over seven minutes played in this period. Now two
on one the other way. Here's a quick chance and
a snapshot off the stick of Carter's sullib As he
came in on a two on one down that left side.
Decided to take the shot. Sullivan has the puck again,
he'll just sweep in around the boards. Puck will roll

(11:09):
in behind the Hunter's goal. Who's a choo? Competed in
front and Sullivan took the feet in the slot and
put the shot off the skate of the defenseman Liam Worth.
Sullivan again hounding for that puck right in front of
the Hunter's goal, but the Hunter is able to grab
it and clear it out. Sullivan trying to get on

(11:29):
that puck. He'll send it in around the boards in
behind the Hunter's goal. Who's a cuckoo? Was after it
there now trying to race in after it was Liam McKnight.
Hunter's trying to work that puck out Hawco being hounded
there by Haverstock. On the fore check puck to the
red line.

Speaker 4 (11:45):
MJ.

Speaker 3 (11:45):
Bottomly will grab it out for the Max brings it in.
Bottomly try to skate around a couple of defenders and
the puck goes into the corner and Bottomly follows the puck,
throws a big check on Liam Worth and then a
long distance shot comes in from just inside the blue
line and O'Shaughnessy makes the save eleven fifty five to

(12:07):
go here. In period number one one nothing Max lead
on the goal by Gavin Sudds, his first of the season,
face off to the right of the goaltender O'Shaughnessy back
to the line. Sudds keeps it in try to slide
it across there, but it went off a teammate skate
and out of the zone and the Max have to

(12:28):
regroup back into their own zone. They go quick pass
up the bottom. He makes a nice move there to
skate around number thirteen Cameron Urkart, and then Bottomly takes
a nudge there from Morris that gets a good reaction
from the crowd should mention as well. A really nice
crowd on hands here, a lot of minor hockey teams
I'm seeing, and just a great turnout tonight to not

(12:51):
only support the Maritime excuse me, the Nova Scotia eighteen
Major Hockey League, but also obviously to support JP mccow,
the Hunters and Sila. Very nice to see and again
the hockey community comes together. It's a tight knit community
and it's just heartwarming truly to see the love and

(13:15):
support that's being brought here, certainly over the last few
days and here tonight and the Max will send it
down the ice and it bounces off the boards. Got
a double check to make sure there's I didn't miss
any penalties because the penalty time the lights are out

(13:38):
on my side of the rink and there is a
MAX player in the penalty box. So again, the penalty
time isn't up on the clock here, so I'll do
my best to kind of keep you abreast of the
penalty time. I won't be able to tell you how
much time is left in the penalty, but I'll keep
an eye and let you know when it's over. And
now it's the Hunter's here's cluet on the power play.

(14:01):
Quick snapshot from the left wing and a nice gloves save.
There is snapping out the leather? Was Kale Campbell? Tell
you Campbell's numbers coming into tonight's game. Kale Campbell four wins,
no loss as a sparkling two point zero goals against
average in a nine to twenty eight save percentage. So
a very well balanced team up and down the lineup.

(14:23):
But certainly I think the Halifax Max, at least through
the early part of the season, are really hanging her
hats on their steady defensive play and their goaltending tandem
of Kale Campbell and Chandler Bell that has been outstanding.
Face off to my left hair of the broadcast position
high above center ice in the press box, and it

(14:44):
is to the right of the Max goaltender scramble draw
loose puck in the Max will grab it and send
it down the ice to take some more time off
of this Hunter's power play. Again, just a reminder, the
penalty time not lighting up here on the clock here
at the Halifax Forum, so I'll just kind of have

(15:07):
to let you know when the penalty is over. And
I won't be able to give you specific time. Sometimes
you got to deal with those funky things in an
old building like this with a very old scoreclock. Now,
Hunters still on the power play, but the MAX will
steal it away. Good defensive effort there by will shearer
and the MAX will get it out into neutral ice.

(15:28):
Hunters will back pedal and grab it there. Max still
down a player here. Here's Hum trying to split the defense.
Nights move by. Hum took it down low and deep
to the blocker side of the goaltender, got a shot
on goal, but it just went in behind. And now
looks like we've got another penalty coming here, and I

(15:50):
think it's going to be against the Max once again,
and it's going to be two minutes, and it looks
like it's going to be boarding the call, so it'll
be some five on three time here. As I look
and try and get the number, the penalty box is

(16:10):
literally directly below the press box that I'm in here,
and it's an obstructed view, so I can only see
kind of the front part of the player that is
in the penalty box. And again they're not lighting it
up here. The lights are out, so and the other
interesting thing with the Halifax Forum is their PA system

(16:33):
is well, it's not very good, so it's really difficult
to make out what the in game announcer is saying.
Announcements are being made, but it's just it's very hard.
It's almost inaudible. But I can tell you that one
of the max penalties is over. So a quick five
on three, now a five on four for the March

(16:53):
and mil Co Hunters. We've crossed past halfway of this
first period. Max continued to one nothing on the goal
by Gavin Sudds. Max trying to kill off this power play.
They'll send it out of the zone. Hum, we'll stop
it just outside his own zone, and he'll backpedal into
his own part of the ice. Now he'll turn and

(17:14):
skate up, coming into four check there with Sam Fleming.
Good job by Fleming, forcing the Hunters back into their
own zone. Time continuing to wind down here in the
power play for the Hunters as they look to gain
the max zone. They do, but a good defensive play
there from Gavin Sudds and then Clewet comes over and
steps into his man and he sent Sam Fleming flying,

(17:38):
but Fleming right back up chasing after the puck into
the Hunter's end of the ice. Hum gets there first
and he'll just zip it around the boards. Hunters send
it up towards center ice onto the stick. Now of
number ten Andrew Werkhart gains the zone. Liam Worth was
waiting for the puck. They couldn't get it to him though.
Worth was right on the doorstep in front of the
Max goal pucking the Max end of the eye ice.

(18:01):
Hunter's still on the power play, there's a shot from
the right wing circle. It was blocked off a skate
and goes in behind the goal line, and now the
Max able to send it down the ice. They will
change up their penalty killing unit. Time winding down here
in the power play, out of the box is Breen
and Breen goes to the bench. So the Max have
killed off back to back power plays to the Hunters,

(18:25):
so we're back to full strength five skaters aside here
with seven thirty four to go in this first period,
being led one nothing by the home side Max. That
puck was fed toward the high slot area. It was
a chuck who was trying to get to it. But
the Hunters will break it up and now they've got
play whistled down again. It looks like we're going to

(18:45):
have another penalty call here and another roughing call. So
over to the penalty box. Looks like that's number ten
Andrew Erkhart so Urkhart into the box and we are
at the media time out. So seven twenty three to

(19:07):
go in period one, Max lead it one nothing. We'll
step aside and be back in just a moment.

Speaker 2 (19:12):

Speaker 3 (19:56):
A welcome back to the Halifax Forum. Seven twenty three
to go. Just had the media time out and now
the face off in the Hunter's zone to the left
of their goaltender, O'Shaughnessy. Clean face off win for the Max.
They set up. Now on the power play, there's a
quick pass right through the crease as sending it through
was Haverstock put to the blue line. Hunters can't get

(20:19):
it out? Who's a Chuku? Now gets it down low
chasing there as Haverstock. Haverstock tried to feed it in
front of the on rushing Joe Breen as he was
pinching in from his defensive position, but the play was
broken up time again, continuing to tick away here in
period number one. Special night here at the Halifax Forum

(20:44):
as several friends of Jp McCallum, the head coach of
the March Milkow Hunters, have shown up here this evening
to coach the team in JP's absence as he is
spending time with family and leaning on one another after
the passing away of his daughter Sela. So again just

(21:09):
a very special night here as we have Sela in
our thoughts every moment. Here's Welsh now has the maxwork
on the power play and a log shot through a
crowd handled no problem there by Colby O'Shaughnessy and I
mentioned it earlier, but if you didn't hear it, I
would encourage you to visit the social channels for the
March and Milcone Hunters and learn all the information and

(21:31):
all the things that you can about young Sela and
what type of person she was, what type of bright, happy,
energetic child she was, and what she means to this
family of hockey. Here off the face off, Hunters able
to send it all the way down into the magzone again,

(21:52):
penalty time not showing on the clock, lights are out,
so it's just a matter of kind of letting you
know when the player is out of the box, still
on the power play or the max. They work it
now in the Hunter's zone. Here's Gavin Sudds he has
the only goal in this one. Here's Welsh just off
the bench, jumping into the power play unit for the

(22:14):
max time winding down in the power play over to
the left point back up not a Kreelman high just
inside the blue line gets it off to the right side.
Quick snapshot by Welsh and the save made by O'Shaughnessy
and the Hunters able to clear it once again and
that will allow the Hunters to change up. Here still

(22:38):
five on four favoring the Max. Here's Sean taking a
quick shot from the right side and a good blocker
save Bioshaughnessy as that puck was labeled for the blocker side,
far side of the Hunter's goal. Play into neutral ice.
Now at the red line, sending it ahead. There was

(22:58):
Urkhart number thirteen, Cameron Urkart. There's a couple of her
Kurts camera number thirteen Andrew number ten for the Hunters.
Strong now gets it ahead chance there tree Win was
sent in alone. He was in tight and didn't have
as much time as he wanted. He got a quick
shot away, but the goaltender O'Shaughnessy again just got enough

(23:22):
to deflect it in behind the goal. Down to four
fifty five to go in the first period. Shearer in
behind his own goal for the Max and the Max
will pick it up in their own end. Hunters back
to full strength. Now there's a chance right in front
and sprawling to make the pad safe was O'Shaughnessy. Glorious

(23:44):
chance right in front for Ian Lovett and again O'Shaughnessy
he's been stellar here in period number one for the Hunters.
They don't display shots on goal, but there's been a
few great scoring opportunities for the Mass and O'Shaughnessy has
shut the door. Now Hunters and of the zone with
Khalita trying to step around the defenseman, Bootler, puck goes

(24:09):
toward the slot there about fourteen feet in front of
the Max goal. But the Max is able to pick
it up and Claire there's a quick pass from love
It getting it up to the right side. Bootler will
bounce it down in front of the goaltender. O'Shaughnessy settles
it there for number twenty six. Carter Pino. A couple
of affiliate players on this Hunter's team this evening as well,

(24:32):
Number sixteen Luke Murphy. Number twenty eight Maverick Mitchell. Great
name name, Maverick Mitchell. He's a new player, just got
back from playing academy hockey down in the US and
he now is a full time member of this March
and Millcow Hunters team. So Maverick Mitchell got the name
bar on the back. He wears number twenty eight and
he is now a full time participant for this Hunter's team,

(24:56):
but again Luke Murphy an affiliate player up as well
as Carter Pino, Luke Murphy from the Martello Buccaneers and
Carter Pino from the base in Armada and in after that.
Puck now is Luke Murphy for the Hunters. Cheeky little
between the legs pass from Baldwin off the boards in
his own end. Bellevo now down the left side for
the Hunters. Remy Bellevo carries it into the zone. Puck

(25:20):
is down in the corner for check. Pressure here from
the Hunters. With time taking away, under three minutes to
play in the first period, Max Fleet at one nothing.
Here's who's a Chuku? Now down on the right side.
He has help with him, Sullivan and Fleming. Who's a Chuko?
Feeds it in front, trying to connect with Fleming, but
it was intercepted nicely there by leam Worth. Good defensive

(25:40):
stick from big number two in black, Liam Worth. Here
come the Max. Now they'll bang it off the wall
at the red line. Fleming hammers it down into the zone.
He'll go off for a change now. MJ. Bottomley leading
point getter on this Max team. He's got fifteen points
on the air. He was in chasing after that puck,
but the Hunters send it the length of the ice

(26:01):
and that's going to be an icing charge to the
March and Milkow Hunters. With two twenty one to go
in period number one one nothing max lead. Gavin Sudd
scored earlier in this period his first of the season
to go with ten assists. So now Sud's the defenseman

(26:23):
for the max up to eleven points on the air,
and I'm sure he's pretty happy to get his first
goal of the season. Cleaning from the face off, there's
a long shot SuDS looking for number two, perhaps as
he just snapped it in from just inside the blue
line on the left wing side. So we'll have another
face off again. A full compliment of coaches on the

(26:46):
March and Milkow Hunters bench. I mentioned it earlier, Ryan
Hillier a regular part of the coaching staff again, being
joined by Brad marschand Jeff Marshand, Justin Smith and Andrew Bodnerchuk.
Scramble draw and the Hunters will pick it up. Clue

(27:06):
it try to step around the defenseman sides gets their clue,
it feeds it in front. Oh glorious save as it
was fed across Clue it right onto the stick of
his teammate Braden Martin, and Merton directed it toward their
goal and kill Campbell, ring the bell ten times, Campbell's
best save of the game, and we'll have another stoppage.

(27:32):
See if we have a penalty coming here. It's taking
a quick peek. Referee skating over this way again the
press box that I'm in here on the east side
of the building, directly above the timekeepers and the penalty boxes. No,
it doesn't look like there's a penalty. I guess it
was just called down and the face off will come

(27:53):
outside the Hunter's zone. Down to one fifty two to
play in this first period again a one nothing Max lead.
Breen long shot in from just outside the blue line
and floats in to the Hunter's goaltender O'Shaughnessy. He hangs on.
No problem there for the Hunter's goaltender Halifax. Max come

(28:17):
into tonight's game having scored sixty six goals on the season,
only giving up fifteen. That's a goal differential of plus
fifty one that is outstanding. A little bit of a
different story for the March Milkow Hunters forty goals for
eighty seven against a minus forty seven goal differential. But
the Hunters have been getting better and steadier as the

(28:39):
season has gone on. There's a shot from the right side,
just off the side of the goal of snapping it in.
There was River Welsh. Little pressure now from the Max
on this shift. Liver took a bump along the boards.
Max maintained control. Max tried to get it back to
the point. McKay was there now Liver again, Liver takes
a bump into the wall as stepping into him was

(29:00):
Peyton Budreau for the Hunters. Max stay right on that puck,
keeping it in the Hunter's zone, trying to feed it
out in front. There was River Welsh, now McKay helping
Welsh down low. McKay feeds a quick pass there and
a snapshot from McKay or excuse me from Joe Breen
as he stepped in from his defensive position. Took that feed,

(29:22):
got a good shot away, but again O'Shaughnessy got a
piece of it. Now down exactly one minute, so sixty
seconds to go here in this opening period. Just the
one goal to speak of it belongs to the home side.
Halifax Max Gavin Sutz scored it just a few minutes
into this opening period, his first of the season, and

(29:44):
it's a one nothing Max lead. Looking over at the
March and Milkow Hunter's bench, which is right across from
our broadcast position here, they've got the Sela's hockey sweaters
hanging behind the bench. Again, just a touching tribute to
Sealap and as was mentioned in a pregame ceremony, Cela

(30:08):
would have absolutely loved being here this evening and just
being here for the hockey. She would have loved it.
And again it's it's just very touching to see the
turnout here this evening to support JP McCallum and Cela's
parents and all of her family. Max quickly and on
that puck right down low a good chance there, as

(30:29):
will share, it was right on top of the goaltender
and O'Shaughnessy did a good job of forcing Shearer and
the puck wide of the goal. Just a few seconds
to go here in this opening period. As the Max,
we'll just flip that puck the length of the ice
and before Shearer can get to it, it's an icing call.

(30:49):
So just eight seconds to go in the period, but
long enough if the Hunters can win this offense of
his own face off, see what they can do here
eight seconds left, Hunters have the face off in the
Max zone, so in the offensive zone draw for the
Hunters it's to the right of Campbell in the Max net.

(31:10):
Kalita in on the face off. He's up against River
welsh Erkkhark gets it off the draw, tried to get
a shot away but it was blocked down. Khalita has
it over along the boards and the Max send it
out toward the Blue Lion and as leam Worth stops
it there, the buzzer sounds to end a pretty quick

(31:31):
paced period sees only one goal and it's Gavin Sudds
getting it his first of the season. And after twenty
minutes of play this special night honoring the memory of
Lovely Seala, it's won nothing. Halifax Max over the march
and milkolew Hunters will step aside, take a break. Twenty
minutes in the.

Speaker 3 (32:13):
Welcome back to the Halifax Forum. Just about set for
puck drop here to get period number two started for
this Nova Scotia U eighteen Major Hockey League game between
the home side Halifax Max and the visitors, the March
and milk Co Hunters. Max wearing their home whites with
the McDonald's golden red now skating right to left and

(32:34):
the Hunters wearing they're black with white trim now skating
left to right, and of course that is my left
to right from the broadcast position here right off the
face off, Max rushing in with the puck, good chance
right off the hop by Nate McKay. We begin this
period full and even strength. Five skaters aside couple of

(32:57):
penalties in the first period a boarding penalty to each
team and a head contact penalty to the Max, but
no power play. Scoring shots on goal in that first period.
Nineteen for the Max, six for the March Milkow Hunters,
and certainly goaltender Colby O'Shaughnessy for the Hunters was outstanding

(33:22):
in period one, McKay controlling it now for the Max
in the Hunter zone. Puck is left there right along
the goal line. Picking it up with Liver gets it
back in the get to go. He scores a beautiful
setup the little given go. Liver had the puck initially
on the left side and slipped it across and then

(33:45):
it was a quick bang bang plays River Welsh feeds
it back to Liver who just had to tap it
in and just like that, twenty nine seconds into period
number two, Liver as the goal. The Max lead it
to nothing and for Evan Liver that's goal number seven

(34:08):
on the AAR. So Liver has put the Max up
by a score of two to nothing. So the Hunters
now find themselves down by two for here's a chance now,
Max right in another one. As they came flying down

(34:29):
the right side, it was sheer. He has the puck
now on the left side, leans into a shot and
a good pad save by O'Shaughnessy. As the Max have
just come out flying here to begin period number two,
they're on the puck again. Hump stops it just outside
the Hunter's zone and sends it back towards the Max
Hunters now making changes again. A special night here honoring

(34:52):
the memory of JP McCollum's daughter, Sila, who passed away
a few days ago. Brad merschand and some other friends
coaching tonight on the Hunter's bench to show support for JP,
Cela's parents, of course, and all of the family and
friends who knew and loved Cela. Here's Kreelman, now the

(35:13):
captain of the Max, leaning into a shot and rifling
it through two defenders, right into the belly of the goaltender.
O'Shaughnessy who holds on and makes yet another save in
the Hunter's goal. So yeah, if you're just joining us.
JP McCallum, the head coach of this March Milkle Hunter's team,
sadly his daughter passing away. After battling cancer for about

(35:37):
a year, she passed away This passed Friday, and of
course he's away from the team as you can imagine,
but a special moment tonight before the game, a moment
of silence for Cela, and of course Brad marchand Andrew Bodnerchuck,
Justin Smith and Jeff marschhand here to support their and

(36:00):
JP mccallums before the game, Brad saying that he and
JP have been friends since Brad was around twelve years old,
So those two have known each other a long time
and it's incredible to see the support for the memory
of Cela. Here's a chance now trying to break in

(36:21):
was number twenty three Nate Bundrow for the Hunter's good
defensive play by Jaden weston the affiliate call up wearing
number nine, did a good job back checking and then
catching up to the play and now behind the play
looks like the puck was knocked down with a high stick.
So the referee in lines person just conferring over that

(36:42):
call and the face off will come down into the
Halifax Max end of the ice. So yeah, longtime friendship
between Brad Marshand and Jp McCallum. JP has done a
lot of off ice training with Brad, and again just
the connection runs deep, and the hockey community, as it

(37:07):
always seems to coming together showing love and support for Cela,
her memory and of course all of her family and
friends and those who loved her. Two nothing Halifax Max
here seventeen thirty nine to go in period number two,
I'm high above center ice here at the East Side

(37:30):
press box at the historic Halifax form a really good
crowd on hand as well. It was only announced yesterday
that Brad mer Shand and others would be here to
coach on the bench and support the Hunters and JP
and the memory of Cela and a score.

Speaker 7 (37:49):
Just like that.

Speaker 3 (37:50):
MJ. Bottomly just turned not quite something into something spectacular
and Bottomly, as he's done all season, has a way
to find the back of the goal. MJ. Bottomley goal
number nine on the season for the Halifax Max forward

(38:13):
and the Max now leaded three to nothing. So Bottomly
has a goal and the Max now have a three
to nothing lead and the potential rust that we talked
about prior to puck drop again. The Max haven't played
in a couple of weeks since they were up at

(38:34):
the UA teen tournament in Ottawa, the Senators tournament that
they finished second. Had a fantastic tournament, didn't give up
a goal through the round robin in playoffs, they only
got scored on in the final, so again, just an
outstanding tournament up there. It was Waterloo who they played
in the final and lost, but not really a loss.
They played well and they got a Selver Middal their

(38:55):
best ever show. Here's McKay down the left side, quick
shot and another good say from O'Shaughnessy. O'Shaughnessy has been excellent,
no question about it. Yes, the maxim got three, but
it could certainly be much more than that if not
for the heroics. To this point of o'shaughness here's liver
now to McKay in the middle and he was tied
up and the puck was taken away. Now the Hunter's

(39:16):
on the puck trying to get it out of their
own zone down the left side, sending it down into
the zone as Braden Martin there to meet it was
Gavin Suddz. He opened up the scoring in this game
early in the first period. He'll watch now as the
puck goes over to the right side. Cooper Strong works
it up. Here's love It gaining the zone. Has livery
too his left gives it the liver live or try

(39:37):
to slide it back to love It broken up nicely
though by Liam Worth trying to feed it out in front.
There was Strong should mention as well. A couple of
key defenders out of the lineup for the march and
Milco Hunters. Dawson Swift with that finger injury or thumb injury,
I should say he's out until after the new and

(40:01):
Shaeffer Gibbs he's got a three game suspension and he's
serving game one of that three game suspension for fighting.
So two big defenders out of the lineup here for
the March and Milkow Hunters, Shaefer Gibbs and Dawson Swift,
and thus the affiliate call ups for the Marching Milko

(40:23):
Hunters Luke Murphy Carter Pino playing on defense at the
affiliate players. Here's Baldwin now down the right side for
the Hunters. Try to get a shot away. Good to
stick there from Blake Bootler to break up that chance.
Quick outlet pass to the right side coming down now
is Cooper Strong drops it for love it, love it,
steps around the defender rate in front, love it, slid

(40:44):
it through the blue ice and out the other side,
and the March and Milkow Hunters will send it out.
Trying to catch up to the puck is Remy Bellevo.
Now he couldn't get to it, and the Max will
send it right back into the zone. Who's a chuku
in on the chase there. Max now trying to get
control of that puck down in the Hunter's zone, gathering

(41:05):
it quickly. There was Sullivan in behind the Hunter's net
comes out to the other side, getting there first for
a moment was Leam McKnight, but it was a chuku
and on the four check forces the turnover. Max have
it now long shot sending it in. There was tree
Win from the right side, took a big bump into
the boards right in front of the Hunter's bench. That
got a reaction from the crowd. Max still buzzing here.

(41:28):
Sullivan trying to get control of that puck, goes along
the half boards on the near side. Fleming scars. Fleming
took the puck off the half wall on the left
wing side, turned toward the goal and just snapped an
absolute laser past the goaltender golvi O'Shaughnessy. So Fleming has

(41:53):
the goal to make it for nothing, and the Max
increased the lead and for Sam Fleming that's goal number
six point number thirteen on the season. So the Max

(42:14):
seem to have gotten the rust off after having not
played for a couple of weeks. They've picked up pretty
much right where they left off. Before they went up
to Ottawa for that U eighteen tournament, they were nine
to zero looking to go ten and oh here this evening,
here's Odell on the puck for the Max from the
left side, quick shot and a nice little blocker say
there by the goaltender O'Shaughnessy pucking neutral ice again, Breen

(42:38):
getting to that puck first. Typically any loose pucks, it's
a Max player getting there just a little bit ahead
of the Hunters. Max a very good and deep team.
But now right back the other way, Kohalda try to
slide it across there to connect with his teammate Cameron
ur Carton was just broken up at the last moment.

(42:59):
Good effort though by Kalida for the Hunters down that
right side, and as Khalida goes in looking for that puck,
it ends up being in icing. So the face off
will come down into the Hunter zone with thirteen twenty
three to go in period number two and the Max
now enjoying a four nothing lead, face off to the

(43:25):
right of the Hunter's goal and a bit of a
scramble draw and it'll go over to the half while
on the near side pucking the Hunter's end of the ice,
they'll slide across ice. Hawk O chopped it off the
boards and the Max will gather. Halifax Max work it
up the left side. That goes by McKay trying to

(43:47):
chase it down. That's Carter Pino, one of the affiliate players.
He's wearing twenty six for the Hunters. Puck is kept
in good play by Riley Kreelman. He sent across ice,
turning and firing was McKay from the boards on the
left side. He whistled it wide to the net. SuDS
keeps in it at the blue line on the left side,
sends a cross ice trying to control it. There was

(44:10):
Welsh and the Hunters get it out, but the play
whistled down, so they'll have a face off down to
twelve forty one to go in this second period. It's
pretty much been all Max to this point. And again,
the Max are a deep team, right They can roll
line after line at you. They've got a great goaltending tandem,

(44:33):
they've got a solid defense and even with Jax Ginnish,
one of their big defenders out of the lineup. Tonight
up playing with the Cape Bretton Eagles in the Quebec
Maritimes Junior Hockey League. They've just got so many bodies
and again just a very deep team. One of the
favorites to come out of the Nova Scotia A teen
major hockey league and go to the Atlantics representing Nova Scotia.

(44:57):
Max gain Is Zoe McKay took a big nut there
and the Hunters will work it out. Puck goes off
the boards on the left side. Creelman will gather and
slides it across the SuDS SuDS dangerously back in the
middle of the ice in front of his own net,
but Kreelman was there to meet the puck. Worth now
backpedaling into his own zone. He'll just send the puck
up toward the red line and Creelman will just gather

(45:20):
it there and send it right back into the Hunter's zone.
Time continues to peel off the clock. Here eleven fifty
five to go in this second period. It's a four
to nothing Max lead. Loudy just turns off the board,
sends it down into the mazone. Loudy will head off
for a change hum trying to keep it in the mazone.

(45:41):
He does now coming over to help out is justin
clue it for the Hunters, but again the Max will
grab that puck and skate it out with strong, strong
into the zone from the right side. Let a quick
shot go and O'Shaughnessy flashes the glove hand on the
left hand and catches it, and we'll have another face
off this Merchant Milco Hunter's team their leading point getter

(46:07):
Dawson Swift, their defenseman who I mentioned injured his thumb
a couple of weeks ago head surgery. Talking to him
before the game, said he's doing well. He's hoping to
get back and start doing some cardio and riding the
wind bike in the next little bit. And again, if
all goes according to plan, he should be back with
the team sometime early in the new year. But again,

(46:30):
tough when you've got a steady defender and your leading
point getter out of the lineup. But such as hockey,
it's the next player up. Mentality Hunters and I went
the zone right into the slot, nice pass across feeding
it through was Baldwin tried to connect on that side
there with Maverick Mitchell and it was just broken up
right in front of the goal. Here's Baldwin again shoves

(46:52):
his man down. That gets a big reaction from the
minor hockey team that's just sitting all on the glass
over on those fireboards. Now Sharer from the right side
takes a shot and send it wide to the goal.
Good end to end action here now picking it up
his treeman, his lead pass off the blade of the
stick of Shearer. Now love it walks in, Love It

(47:13):
sides it across just underneath the stick of Strong as
he tried to swipe at the past looking for the
one time and he just had the puck go under
his stick. Right back the other way. Baldwin with a
shot and a stick saved by the goaltender Campbell. Right
back the other way. Came the Hunters with a good
chance and now the Max it's fleming on the left

(47:33):
wing side. Hum tried to throw the hip check stepping
around it. There was a fleming. Now Breen walks in
quick shot and a good stick saved down in the
butterfly by O'Shaughnessy pressure by the Max here in the
Hunter's zone, coming up to the midway point of this
second period, first whistle. After the midway point, we'll have
the media time out. But here's Breen walking along the

(47:55):
goal line. Who's a Chuco was right on the doorstep,
couldn't bang it in. It comes to tree Win. He
tried to get a shot away, knocked the stick out
of the hands of number twenty three Nate Bundro And
looks like we're going to have an interference call. And
this should also be the media timeout, so we'll see

(48:16):
who's coming over to the penalty box. Looks like it's
going to be number eleven, Logan tree Win. So tree
Win to the box. It's the media timeout. We'll step aside.
Just passed halfway in this second period. The max in control.
They lead the hunters for nothing back in just a minute.

Speaker 3 (49:27):
Timeout over, pucked back in play, and now it's the
Hunters on the power play. After that interference penalty to Treewin,
Baldwin now in behind the max goal. Hunters on the powerplay.
Here in on the for check was SuDS back to
the left point, Hunters tossing it around. Now setting up

(49:48):
in the max zone. On the power play, here's Hawko
left hand shot from the right side, sends it wide
to the goal. Kluett keeps it in on the left
side at the blue line. Now Baldwin down low gives
it there for Looty. Here's Loudy skating along the goal line,
taking a push there from Captain Kreelman. Hunters again on
the power play. Here Kreelman takes it off the glass,

(50:11):
off the skate and kept in by clue for the
Hunter's clue it now from the left circle, sends it
across and that went underneath the stick of Maverick Mitchell,
the big forward had that puck go just underneath the
blade of his stick. Don't have the stats on Mitchell.
He just joined the team, but just from having a look,

(50:32):
he's a big bodied player. He heads to the bench,
does Mitchell. Hunter still on the power play though again
they don't show the power play time. Those lights are
out on the clock, but I can't tell you that
the power play is still ongoing. Now, here's Loudy trying
to send it across, broken up neatly there as stepping
in the way was Blake Bootler. Again. The Hunter's on

(50:53):
it again, looking for that cross ice pass that was
broken up. Couldn't quite connect. There on the cross ice
pass as sending it through was Braden Martin. Max still
on the penalty kill. Here, here's Worth Hunters gain the zone.
This is Nate Goodrow. He watches the puck go down

(51:17):
below the goal line. Max trying to clear it out
of their own zone. Hunters steal it away though. Last
few seconds here of the Hunter's power play. They've got
it along the boards on the right side. Back up
high Hum deals it off to the left. A quick
shot fanning on it there was Worth no problem for
the goaltender Campbell Now Martin with a quick shot that

(51:37):
was blocked down right in front of the Max net
Max penalty is over. Tree went out of the box
back to five on five. Walking right in front of
the goal was Andrew Werkhart and it's broken up now Nate,
but dro turns and tried to get a shot through.
Too many bodies though in the lane and the puck
goes off into the corner. Good pressure here by the
Hunters as they started the pressure while they had the

(51:59):
man advantage, and they continued it when the penalty was over.
But now the Max with some pace right back the
other way. River Welsh had that shot blocked. He'll send
across ice now, Max jumping on a quickly hum gotta
stick on that and block the crossing a taper. But
here's Bottomly fitting it right in front. Another chance was
whagging at the buck was River Welsh MJ. Bottomley with

(52:19):
the nice setup and Welsh couldn't connect and the Hunters
will send the puck down the ice. Both teams making
changes here as we are down to six forty seven
to go. There's a quick shot and that just went
off the side of the goal. Because I think some
of the fans thought that that had been tucked in
by the hunters as that shot was let go from

(52:41):
that right side, but it'll just end up being a
face off in the MA zone. So McKnight and on
the face off against Fleming to the left of the
Max goalie Campbell clean face off for the Hunters trying
to get a shot through there from the point was

(53:03):
Peyton Bundreau, but it's the Max right back the other way.
Who's a chucku? Sent it across tree Win got a
stick on it but deflected it wide nice feet over
though from who's a Chucku? Max? Well, watch as that
puck rings around the boards, comes to the half while
on the near side in the hunter's zone, Fleming, trying
to dance through some defenders, grabs the puck. Took a

(53:24):
quick snapshot. I think that hit McKnight, who was about
five feet in front of his own net. Who's a cuckoo?
Now takes a little bump from McKnight, another bump as
McKnight trying to force Who's a Chucku off the puck.
Treewin tried to settle it when under his stick and
it's still now in the hunter's zone. Fleming trying to
do some dancing with that puck. It goes down low,

(53:46):
grabbing it there the Max tree win from the left side, turns,
flips it toward the slot area and it goes by
everybody and off to the boards on the far side.
And then looks like we've got a penalty coming here,
and it's gonna be against Peyton Boudrow, who is not
at all pleased as he takes off the helmet and

(54:08):
the cage and having some words for the referee and
he'll head to the penalty box. So over to the
box goes Peyton Boudrow and it's a power play for
the Max. With five forty six to go in the
second period, the Max a chance now to increase their

(54:29):
four goal lead. It's four nothing. Four different goal scorers
for the Max. Sudds, Fleming, Bottomley and Liver. I will say,
even though four have gotten by him. Colby O'Shaughnessy has
been stellar in the Hunter's goal, no question about it.
He faced nineteen shots in the first and he's faced

(54:50):
a bunch more here in the second. I had to
hear that penalty call. It sounded like it was two
minutes for illegal equipment. Again. The PA system here at
the forum, very difficult to hear, almost inaudible. And as well,

(55:11):
they don't post the shots on goals, so I can't
give you an update. I can only check at the
end of the period, and the lights are out on
the penalty side of things, so I can't tell you
penalty time when that's counting down either. But hey, it's
the historic Halifax Forum. Sometimes you got to deal with
those things. When you're talking about an elderly building like this,
and there's a long pass by everybody that rolls right

(55:33):
into the goaltender Campbell for the Max and he'll just
freeze it and hold on, not wanting to take any chances,
so the face off will be in the Max zone.
It's a power play for the Max with Peyton buodrow

(55:54):
over in the penalty box. Now off the face off
Max control. The dangerous Bottomly takes a bump from Cluet
but sends it into the hunter's zone. Max now trying
to chase that puck down and gain control and set up.
Here here's Bottomly turning. His shot bounced off a couple

(56:15):
of players. Puck was loose right in front of the
goal and O'Shaughnessy didn't know where it was for a moment,
and then it was cleared out and Breen will gather
and pack backpedal into his own zone, sliding it across
the tree Win back to Breen. Here's Joe Breen lugging
up the ice right down the middle. Breen tried to
peel off to the right side. He'll go back to

(56:35):
tree Win. Tree Win walking along the blue line, sends
across ice bottomly down to a knee a la Alex
Ovechkin couldn't convert the one time attempt. Hunters clear the
puck out of the zone. Full change here on the
penalty kill unit for the Hunters. Four minutes to go
in this second period, Max still on the power play.

(56:57):
Here's Sullivan takes a solid bump there from Luke Murphy
and it's out of bottom. He stops it over on
the boards on the right side. McKay tried to get
it back. It comes sending it in there with Blake
Bootleer scramble in front. Pluck carried away from in front
of the Hunter's goal and the puck will go down
the ice and again both teams making some quick changes here.

(57:22):
Hunters have killed off the penalty, and they got to
be careful. They just had six skaters on the ice.
I'm not sure did the referee see it. There was
definitely six skaters full in play for the Hunters, and
I think the officials did indeed catch it. I think
the Hunters just kind of got crossed up there with

(57:44):
the penalty ending and then trying to get the five
skaters they wanted out on the ice. So just let
me count up here. So it looks like it's going
to be Mason Hooris who will go and serve the
bench minor for too many skaters. And again there was

(58:07):
very clearly six skaters on the ice for the Hunter.
So after killing off the penalty to Peyton Boudrow, they
get called for the bench miner too many men and
Mason Morris now will serve that minor penalty and the max.
Right back to the power play with the puck is Weston,
the affiliate player playing the left point.

Speaker 4 (58:25):
Here.

Speaker 3 (58:25):
Weston slides over to the right side, that one underneath
the stick of Boudrou over there. Excuse me, Blake Buttler.
Buttler now tried to backhanded forward. McKay sends it in
deep McKay heads toward the front of the net. They
tried to feed the puck back to him. Now back
to the right point walking in with it. This is
Blake Botler in deep from his defensive position. Max on

(58:48):
the power play back it goes. That was Weston sending
it down, loads sharp angles shut as Welsh let it
go from the left side, just on the top part
of that goal line and snap it in and O'Shaughnessy
blocks it and makes the save. Great to see so
many fans in attendance here tonight for this game, a

(59:09):
lot of minor hockey players in attendance as well, wearing
their jersey and they're trying to get the wave going.
That's pretty cool. I don't know when the last time
the Halifax Forum would have seen a full blown wave,
but certainly the fans and attendance are, in particular the
minor hockey teams wearing their team colors trying to get
the wave going. And why not now Max again setting

(59:32):
up on the power play here Morris in the penalty box.
Too many skaters trying to cut toward the front of
the goal was bottomly looking dangerous there, but it was
broken up as the Hunters collapsed in front of their
goal tender. O'Shaughnessy now from the right side, O'Dell little
given go back. It goes Creelman from the right side.
Let a snapshot go and I think O'Shaughnessy just got

(59:55):
a piece of that. Hum takes a bump there from Odell,
Hum trying to get it out of the zone for
the hunters. Hum doing some good work down low. O'Dell
chopping in on Hum now bottomly comes to help out.
We've got five players in that corner now on the
near side in the hunter's end of the ice, and
it's the Max who come away with the puck, but

(01:00:16):
it ends up squirting out into neutral ice and the
Max will have to regroup. Baldwin gathers it for the
Hunters in his own zone and the Hunters will flip
it the length of the ice and it goes off
the blade of the stick of Remy Bellivo for the
Hunters and into the weighting gloves of the goaltender CaAl Campbell.

(01:00:39):
Down to one forty six to go in this second period.
Don't go too far in the second emission, I'll be
speaking with one of the coaches from the Halifax Max
Tony McCarthy as well, hoping to have a couple of
Hunters players up here. We'll have to wait and see
whether they remember and be can find their way up

(01:01:01):
here to the press box. If they do, I've invited Schaefer,
Gibbs and Dawson Swift, both of the defenseman out of
the lineup for the Hunter's Night, to come up in chat.
We'll see, but certainly I do know that Tony McCarthy
will be making his way up. I just got a
remember to go and unlock the door to the press box.
Penalty is over now, Morris out of the box. Back

(01:01:23):
to five on five Hunters have killed off back to
back kenalies. So good penalty kill from the Hunters, and
they'll send it to length of the ice no icing
after it is bringing or no it is icing. I
thought it was not going to be called icing, but
it was indeed whistled down, So an icing call against
the Hunters and the face off will come down into

(01:01:44):
the Hunter's zone. With one minute and seven seconds to
go here in this second period, the max four different
goal scorers. They lead it for nothing. Five skaters aside
here as we wind down period two, face off in
the Hunter's zone to the left of their goaltender, O'Shaughnessy
and the Max control off the face off trying to

(01:02:05):
get something in towards the goal was Cooper Strong Max
still on that puck. This is shearert trying to do
something down low. Puck pops up into the air. McKnight
trying to dislodge it. We've crossed inside the file. Minute
of play in the second period. Here's Morris on the
left side. Morris has Andrew Werkhart with him, signing it across.
Erkar tried to feed it over there to Hako who

(01:02:28):
was pinching it, and it went another a stick back
the other way. Strong now following up his love it all?
What to save for the ages as O'Shaughnessy spread Eagle
got the left leg and the toe on that attempt
down low as the Max were flying in in transition?
What uh save? Ring the bell ten times for Colby

(01:02:53):
O'Shaughnessy as his teammates come over and rightfully so, tapping
the pads saying wait to go? How to make that
spectacular say? Best of the game in my opinion for
either goaltender. Now the Hunter's off the face off with
not much time to go here in period two, flipping

(01:03:14):
it up toward the redline, Blootler couldn't settle it there
into the zone comes Braiden Martin for the Hunters. Now
down lowis Cluett Loody in there as well, clue it
feeds it in front. Oh what a chance as Braiden
Martin was fed right in front of the goal and
Campbell just got enough to keep it out of the net.
Great chance. In the final seconds here of the second period,

(01:03:36):
Pucking neutral ized. Not much time sure Wax a shot
in toward the goal, but the buzzer sounds. O. Shaughnessy
catches it and an entertaining second period of play. The
Hunters may be down by four, but they continue to
fight hard. So forty minutes in the books, four different
goal scorers for the Max, Sudds, Fleming, Bottomley and Liver,

(01:04:00):
and with two periods complete, the Halifax Max on home
ice lead it by a score of four. Nothing Joko
too far. We should have some internistion intervies for you
coming up in just today. You're listening to the firm
Foundation Media Radio Network. Four nothing Max after two.

Speaker 3 (01:05:01):
Welcome back to the Halifax Forum. After two periods of play,
the Halifax Max on Home Ice lead the March and
Milcow Hunters by a score of four to nothing. Four
different goal scorers for the Max pleased to be joined
by assistant coach from the Max, Tony McCarthy. Tony, first
of all, kind of your assessment to the first two.

Speaker 8 (01:05:19):
Yeah, I thought we're coming out just playing our game.
You know, we like to play with speed and tempo,
and I think that's how we're doing. I'd like to
clean up the ozone a bit, just you know. Obviously
some missed opportunities, but overall, we got to be happy
without forty minutes.

Speaker 3 (01:05:30):
Talking to head coach Tim Boyce prior to the game,
he said one of the things he was wanting to
see was this team kind of shake off some rust
after not having played for two weeks since coming back
from the UA ten tournament in Outawa. It looks like
you guys haven't missed the beat, But again, what's your assessment?
It turns up shaking off that rust for the max.
I think we're doing a good job.

Speaker 8 (01:05:48):
I mean, when you're when you're off for a week
and a half, you know, it takes a you know,
it takes a bit to get into it. And I think,
you know, our first few shifts, we we might have
got beat around a bit, but I thought overall, you know,
you can't complain for the forty minutes.

Speaker 3 (01:05:58):
And maybe just a word on the goaltender that's opposing
you tonight, Coleby O'Shaughnessy, who in my estimation has just
been outstanding.

Speaker 8 (01:06:05):
Yeah, he's been fantastic. He's he's one of the top
fifteen year olds in the province and he's there for
a reason. So he's doing a heck of a job.

Speaker 3 (01:06:12):
Always a lot of intensity and energy in the games
in the Nova Scoshy eight team Major Hockey League, but
obviously extra emotion tonight with the game celebrating the life
of JP McCollum's daughter, Cela, who sadly passed away last week.
What kind of messaging, if anything, came from you and
the coaching staff to your side tonight, knowing that there

(01:06:33):
was going to be emotion, you know, Brad mershand and
others on the bench for the Hunters supporting JP, But
kind of what was the messaging coach?

Speaker 8 (01:06:40):
Yeah, you know what, for us, it's just it shows
that what the hockey world's all about. It's more than
what happens on the ice and during you know, the
sixty minutes are playing. You just see the way that
people came out today to support you know, see, you know,
we try to obviously build good hockey players, but people
overall and seeing guys like Brad marsh and and R Bonner,
Chuck Ryan Hilly, You're over there, you know, coming back

(01:07:00):
taking time away from their professions, you know, being pro
hockey players. It just shows what hockey's all about in
the hockey world, how close knit we are. And you know,
to me it's you know, hockey's more than what happens
on the ice, and just you know, proud to be
part of the hockey family we have here in Nova,
Scotia and Canada.

Speaker 3 (01:07:13):
Overall very well said. We'll let you go here in
just a second, but I want to ask you about
this MAX team overall, great goaltending duo, solid defensively, aggressive forwards.
Anyone that's never seen this team, how would you describe
the MAX team identity.

Speaker 8 (01:07:29):
We just like to play fast, play physical, and just
make sure we're into it right away, you know, kind
of keep teams on their toes, and that's what we
try to do each and every night.

Speaker 2 (01:07:36):
You know, you build teams from the back end and
you nail that.

Speaker 8 (01:07:38):
We get two great goaltenders we can go to every night,
sixty we can put in any position, and twelve fours
we can do the same with. So we just try to,
you know, build with depth.

Speaker 3 (01:07:45):
What do you want to see in the third period?

Speaker 8 (01:07:48):
Just come close the deal. You know, it's a sixty
minute game. We played a good fall of forty so far.
You know, we get twenty to go.

Speaker 3 (01:07:53):
Thanks for your time and good luck in the third
Thanks so much. That is assistant coach Tony McCarthy from
the Halifax Max. His side leads it four nothing after
two periods of play. We appreciate his time and we'll
step aside for a moment, take a break. But when
we come back, we'll speak to the dynamic duo on
defense for the March and Milk Coole Hunters, Schaefer, Gibbs
and Dawson Swift. We'll talk to those guys when we
come back.

Speaker 2 (01:08:14):
Ready to jam with the future of hockey.

Speaker 3 (01:08:36):
Welcome back to the Halifax Forum. The Zamboni is doing
its thing. Forty minutes in the books, the Halifax Max
on home ice, leading the March and Milic Hunters by
a score of four to nothing. Four different goal scorers
for the Max, but we're joined by a couple of
defensemen for the March Millicole Hunters. I referenced earlier in
the game that two of the main pieces on defense

(01:08:56):
for the Hunters not available this evening Dawson Swift with
the injured the left hand, and of course Shaeffer Gibbs
serving game one of a three game suspension for fighting.
So first of all, let me start off with you, Dawson.
How's the injured hand, what's the recovery like? And how
you doing right now? Doing good?

Speaker 9 (01:09:13):
I mean I had surgery on last Monday, all went
well and got a weekend.

Speaker 3 (01:09:19):
Just five more left and it should be good to go.
And let me ask you, Schaeffer, how difficult is it
right now to be up here in the press box
and watching your mates play this game.

Speaker 4 (01:09:29):
It's a little bit difficult, but it's more seeing the
perspective from the outside, the game from the stands and
being able to take it to the guys in the
locker room and let them know and give them ideas
and stuff on the ice.

Speaker 3 (01:09:41):
As mentioned, both of you are very strong and steady defenders,
important pieces for this March and mill Coole Hunter's team.
But when you're not in the lineup, what kind of
things can you say and help your teammates with when
you're not in the lineup.

Speaker 9 (01:09:54):
I think just positivity, to be honest, you know, like
giving a guy a pat on the back, you know,
tell him he needs to do this better, he's doing
this good.

Speaker 1 (01:10:00):
You know.

Speaker 9 (01:10:01):
I feel like just encouraging them well. And confidence and
you know Costivi's key and for.

Speaker 4 (01:10:06):
You Schaeffer, trying to boost their confidence and get their
confidence all the way up so they can play to
their best. Is that's what That's the main goal when
you're not in the lineup, trying to hype a guy
up and get them ready.

Speaker 3 (01:10:17):
Maybe just the word about your goaltender, Colby O'Shaughnessy. Through
forty minutes, the Max have got four, but it could
be certainly way more than that for the Max if
not for the fantastic stellar goaltending of O'Shaughnessy. Yeah. What
are you seeing from your goaltending teammate tonight?

Speaker 9 (01:10:33):
Yeah, I know, he looks really good in between the pipes.
I've enjoyed watching them right now.

Speaker 3 (01:10:38):
When you're back on D I know, defenseman a lot
of times like to have little chats with their goaltender
and stoppage and stuff. Is it O'Shaughnessy? Is he a
chatty guard? Does he have much to say? He's a
great chatty guy. You can rely on him on a
two on one.

Speaker 4 (01:10:50):
You know you're yelling back, take the shot, take the shower,
and it like he's always therefore, he's talking to you
in between whistles. He's letting you know in the plays
where to go. Well, there's a puck guy in that.
He's always letting you know what to do.

Speaker 3 (01:11:03):
Always interesting to know about those conversations. And of course
an emotional night here, this evening outside the matchup between yourselves,
the Hunters and the Max celebrating the life of JP
McCallum's daughter Sila. You know, Jp, your head coach. I
know you're all very familiar with Cila and what she
meant to this team. What are your emotions Dawson tonight

(01:11:24):
playing this game in honor of Sela.

Speaker 9 (01:11:27):
You know, it's it's it's a hard it's a hard
thing to you know, doing it, and it's definitely been
a hard thing for our team to deal with. But
I mean the hockey community coming out here tonight and
showing support, it means a lot to not just the
team here, but I know JP himself and you know
it's it's been a it's been a good a good
good night.

Speaker 3 (01:11:45):
Same thing for you, Schaefer.

Speaker 2 (01:11:48):
Uh rest of the rest of the year.

Speaker 4 (01:11:50):
I will always step on the ice and play for
JP and his family, and this also shows the spreads
awareness to the other hockey family that are going through
these types of situations.

Speaker 3 (01:12:04):
Very well said by both of you, young men. I'll
wrap up with you here in a second, but part
of the hockey community support I've mentioned it in the
broadcast and it's been on social media in the last
twenty four hours, but it's longtime friend of JP McCallum,
Brad Marshan coming in to coach on the bench site,
Andrew Bodner, Chuck Justin Smith and Jeff marshand. When you

(01:12:26):
see that and you get a chance to see those
caliber of players being that supporting the hockey community as
young men yourselves, what kind of message does that give you, Schaeffer,
I'll go with you first.

Speaker 4 (01:12:39):
Yeah, no, having him on the bench and in the
dressing room, it gives you energy and lots of wanting
to play the game, like when you see him as
he's a big role model to a bunch of the guys,
and that's really getting the guys up.

Speaker 3 (01:12:54):
And what about for you, Dawson, I think just their experience.

Speaker 9 (01:12:57):
It really shows in the way they talk in the
room and it just gets your revved up, like you're
you're here a speech by one of them, You're really
you're ready to go.

Speaker 3 (01:13:05):
The interesting thing too, I was down talking to your
coaching staff prior to the game, you know, just going
over lineups and all that kind of stuff. And to
see brad mershand in there with the whiteboard drawing stuff
up was pretty cool. What's it like seeing him on
the bench back there for your boys.

Speaker 2 (01:13:21):
It's it's really cool.

Speaker 9 (01:13:22):
It's it's a you know, it's something that not every
team gets the experience, and I wish everyone really did.
It's it's a really cool thing, and it's really nice
to have him here, Schaeffer.

Speaker 4 (01:13:32):
You get to experience a different type of coaching style
coming from an actual player who's still playing the game
this day, and you get to understand the way that
he's thinking the plays and he's drawing up on the whiteboard.

Speaker 3 (01:13:46):
Well, listen, Dawson and Shaeffer, we appreciate your time. Two
great players, but two better young men. We appreciate your time,
and we wish your team good luck in the third
and look forward to seeing you bet guys back on
the ice soon. Thank you very much. There it is.
That's two big defenders for this March and Milko Hunters team, Dawson,
Swift and Shaefer Gibbs. We certainly appreciate their time. The

(01:14:06):
team's back on the ice. We'll have the third period
for you in just a couple of minutes.

Speaker 2 (01:14:11):
Ready to jam with the future of hockey.

Speaker 3 (01:14:32):
Welcome back to the Halifax Forum. Third period just about
ready to start it, and it's great to see over
on the March and Milkow Hunters bench right now. Brad
Marchhand Stanley Cup Champion, fantastic high level Elite NHL player,
a Nova Scotian. He's over there coaching up the March

(01:14:54):
and Milkow Hunters as we get ready for this third period.
An experience that I'm sure these players will never forget,
having a real time, current top level NHL Stanley Cup
champion coaching your team on a Wednesday night at the
Halifax Forum, and all for such a wonderful cause in

(01:15:15):
memory of March and mil Coo Hunter's head coach JP
McCallum's daughter Cela. So it's four nothing here as we
begin period number three, we are five skaters aside, so
even strength hockey as we begin this third period. Max
in there white with McDonald's gold and red now skating
my left to right, and the March and Milk Hunters

(01:15:37):
on the road in there black and white now skating
right to left. Kolby O'Shaughnessy in goal for the Hunters.
He's been fantastic. Cale Campbell in net for the Max.
He hasn't been challenged as many times, but he's been
good and here's a chance for him now is coming
down the right side was Braden Martin and slid a
shot wide of the goal. Welch now back the other

(01:15:57):
way has live Or with him, gives it off to
Sudge though, who was coming up trailing the play. SuDS Back,
hands it down low for live Or. Live Or turns
in the corner and he'll send it back low. Max
cycling the puck here in the Hunter zone, but the
Hunters will grab it with Martin. Martin wears number twenty
two in black for the Hunter, sends it down into

(01:16:17):
the Mac zone. Shearer gets to that puck first four
Halifax just underway here in the third period, here's Baldwin
now little toad dragon traffic, couldn't get free to get
a shot away and coming up with the puck. Was
he in Lovett for the Max. Good effort throw from Baldwin,
now love it twisting and turning doing a three sixty
spinner ramat the red line and then lost the puck.

(01:16:39):
Come tried to come forward with it, but Strong steals
it away for the Max on that right wing side.
Baldwin comes back, takes the puck away. Baldwin slides down
to the ice as he lost an edge and the
Hunters will pick it up. Little pass slid across there.
Worth try to move it forward that one into the
Max player blocking it there with SuDS for the max,

(01:17:02):
but the Hunters will get it down into the Halifax zone.
Just a little over two minutes played in this third period,
here's Hawko stepping in. Just kept it in at the
blue line, got a shot up, we into a crowd
of rebound chance right in front was Blake. Excuse me,
remy Bellevo and put it up into the shoulder of Campbell.
Great chance right there for the marching Milk Co Hunters

(01:17:23):
with Bellevo right at the top of the crease. Here
they come again, outlet pass sending it up with Pino
trying to get ahead with the puck was Rcard. He
was turned aside. Urkart's still staying on that puck. That's
number ten Andrew Workhart, not to be confused with number thirteen.
Camera in her kart and the play whistle down hand

(01:17:43):
passes the call and you know, I referenced the two
defensemen from the Hunters that I interviewed in the intermission,
Shaefer Gibbs and Dawson Swift. How impressive to talk to
those two young men and to talk to them about
the game, talk to them about what tonight means. Honoring
the memory of Cela having Brad Marshand and others on

(01:18:06):
the bench tonight, just incredibly good young men, mature, good
young men, and you hear all the time right not
only in hockey but all sports. You want good players,
good performance on the field of battle, whether it's the ice,
the cord, the field, the pitch, whatever. But more than that,

(01:18:27):
you want good people. And more often than not, in
my decades of covering local sports, I meet good people
all the time, great young men and women, These athletes
that are just so wonderful to talk to and are
such a credit to their teams, their leagues and their community.

(01:18:47):
And no different there with Schaeffer, Gibbs and Dawson Swift.
I joke with them after we got off headset. I said,
I've got three kids myself, and listening to two young
men like yourself, it gives me kind of like Adad,
a proud dad moment. They kind of giggled and smiled
as the Hunters got a good chance breaking in in

(01:19:08):
a say maiden. Now, after the play whistled down, we've
got a little pushing and shoving here, and Brad Marchhand,
I'm sure as I look across at the hunter's bench
may have a bit of a wry smile. That's the
kind of after whistle shenanigans that you might expect a
Brad Marchhand to be in the middle of. Not saying

(01:19:29):
that he's encouraging it, but I'm sure he's watching a
little bit of jam coming from the Hunters and he's like, Okay,
that's all right, you're down for nothing, but you know,
show a little little jam, a little grit, so we'll see.
It looks like there's gonna be multiple penalty calls coming
out of that little fracas. So it looks like Hu's

(01:19:53):
Achuku over in the penalty box for the max. And
I'm trying to look down again obstructed view from where
I am trying to see, looks like it's I think
it's number twenty four, excuse me, number twenty three, Nate Woodrow.

(01:20:15):
I definitely see Budrow. I just wasn't sure if it's
twenty three or twenty four. Twenty three is Nate Boudreau,
twenty four is Peyton Boudrou no relation, and I believe
it was Uzachuku in the box for the max. Again,
they don't display the penalties numbers or the time here
because the lights are burned out, so it is Buodrow.

(01:20:44):
I just haven't confirmed which one. So Boodrow and Uzachuku
each two minutes for roughing. So a little bit of
extracurriculars after the whistle puts the player from each team
in the box. But they're coincidental minors. The number of
skaters doesn't change. We're still five a side. It's just

(01:21:05):
that both teams will be without those players for the
full duration of that two minute minor. So playback underway.
Sixteen sixteen to go in this third period. Max leading
it by four. No scoring so far in the third period,
and now we've got a tripping call coming here, so

(01:21:29):
heading over to the penalty box. Well, now I have
my answer. It's number twenty four just got hit for tripping.
So Peyton Boudreau just to the box for tripping. So
the previous coincidental minor penalty to the Boudreau was Nate Boudreau.
So now we've got Boudrow times two in the penalty box,

(01:21:51):
Nate and Peyton. So now it'll be a power play
for the Max. There's a one time attempt fanning on it.
There was Nate McKay tree win from the right point
slides it across Breen back to Tree when right point
cross ice diagon they score. Welsh took the cross ice

(01:22:12):
feed from Tree, Win took a half stride and snapped
it in behind O'Shaughnessy and it's a power play goal
for the Halifax Max and they now lead it by five.
River Welsh with the goal making it five nothing, and
it's a power play marker and for River Welsh that's

(01:22:36):
goal number nine on the air point number twelve. So
that didn't take long. Just a few seconds into the
power play the Halifax Max. And that was a great
pass from Treewin just inside the blue line on the
right side, diagonally across to the left circle, and Welsh
snapped it home. Great shot from the Max forward Max

(01:23:01):
right back on the attacker back to even strength. There's
a long shot as love It ripped it from the
left circle. Kreelman now tried to settle it, but it's
turned over and the Hunters will bring it out with Baldwin.
Baldwin's had himself a good game, tried to kick it
forward to himself, love It pushed him off the puck.
Baldwin gets it back to the right point worth took
a shot and it went off a stick and out

(01:23:22):
of play. So a good answer on this shift from
the Hunters. And I will say that's one thing I've
referenced earlier. There's no sag in this Hunter's team. If
you didn't know the score, you wouldn't know that the
Hunters were down by five in the third. They don't
slump the shoulders, they don't drop the head. They just

(01:23:42):
play hard shift after shifting. Just after giving up the
fifth goal, the Hunters come right back in transition and
had a good chance. So the Hunter's answering that max
goal with the good shift. Here's a chance. Oh, Bellevo
put it up over top of the goal. Remy, what
great chances. He dashed in the right side, took a

(01:24:03):
feed from down low and just fired it over the goal,
all the way down into the Hunter's end of the ice.
Worth back there being pressured by Sharer and Cooper strong
forces the turnover. Sharer in front love it with a chance,
slides it wide share behind the goal again with the
max pressuring and the net off the moorings. So we'll

(01:24:27):
have a stop agenda face off with the max pressuring.
Fourteen forty eight to go period number three on this
special night here honoring the memory of JP McCallum's daughter
a Cela. JP McCallum, of course, the head coach of
the March and Milklew Hunters, and his daughter Cela, who

(01:24:51):
loved hockey, loved life and just loved being around the
rink and the guys and her dad coaching. And after
about a year long battle with illness, she passed away
on Friday pass surrounded by family and loved ones. And

(01:25:12):
again just a special night here. Yes, there's a hockey game,
and it's a good one, but this is about the
hockey community coming together and honoring the memory of lovely
Sila and a chance now to on one. There's a
quick shut as Loody came down the right side, Martin
was on the left. As the Hunters came in two

(01:25:32):
on one, Loody decided to take the shot and it
went off a stick and up out of play. But
just to finish this todd again, we you know, talked
about it all broadcast long, but rightfully so. And again
just to see a top caliber NHL player like Brad
Marchan going to his team getting the blessing of the
Florida Panthers to miss a game, to come back to

(01:25:53):
his home problems with Nova Scotia, to be there for
his friend of about twenty five years J P. McCall
them and the others who are on the bench with
Brad tonight. It's just a remarkable display of love and community.
Here's who's a chuku now trying to bulls away and
who's a cucku takes a shot as he plowed past

(01:26:14):
the defenders and rifled it wide of the goal, right
back the other way. Now Kluet has Hawko with him.
Hawko jumps on that puck. Clue it now, we'll take
it in the corner. Max look to grab it and
see if they can clear the zone and the Max
will skate it up. Here comes Fleming over the blue line,
over the red line. Fleming now into the Hunter zone.
He scars coast to coast. Sam Fleming with his second

(01:26:39):
of the game. He goes coast to coast, slides through
the defenders and rifles the puck in behind the goaltender.
Ro Shaughnessy and the Max have increased the lead at
sicks nothing and what a goal for Sam Fleming his
second of the game. Is seventh of the season and

(01:27:03):
the Max have increased their lead. So Fleming scored to
make it four nothing and has just scored again to
make it six nothing. So the Max very deep end
complete team. Here they come again into the zone trying
to make a move. There was Haverstock and the puck

(01:27:25):
will go over to the first side. Tree Win slides
into it and just took that puck off the boards
and calmly pinched in from the blue line on the
right side and lifted a shot in toward the goal
and o'shawn as he made the save. And coming into
this third period shots on goal through the first two
we're thirty nine thirteen, so a big advantage in shots

(01:27:47):
on goal and again the Max have added to the total.
They're not displaying shots on goal here. I'm getting the
shots on goal from the Halifax Max social channels and
a big thank you for them to them for hosting
those stats. But yeah, coming into this third period shots
on goal with thirty nine thirteen, O'Shaughnessy has been great.
Campbell's been called upon a couple of times and has

(01:28:09):
made some nice saves, but certainly nowhere near as busy
as his counterpart Colby O'Shaughnessy. Here's a MJ. Bottomley now
tried to feed it in front. He got it into
the slot, but only black sweaters there and the Hunters
will try to work it out of his own. Morris
has it come towards him. Treeman tried to kick it
forward and it comes into the center ice area where
it's picked up by Odell. Max will send it in

(01:28:31):
from the west side. McKay rips a shot right into
the pads of O'Shaughnessy, who came out to the top
of his crease and met the shooter head on and
took that quick shot into the pads as he went
down into that butterflies dance and again O'Shaughnessy.

Speaker 1 (01:28:48):
You know.

Speaker 3 (01:28:48):
Even talking to assistant coach Tony McCarthy from the Max,
he commented on just how good Colby O'Shaughnessy is interesting too.
Talking to Dawson Swift and Shaefer Gibbs, two defenseman on
this Hunter's team, not in the lineup tonight, but they
were talking about, you know, just how chatty o'shawness he
is back there, and how he's a great communicator in goal,

(01:29:09):
and that's a big, big thing for a young goaltender
to have that confidence to be kind of conversational and
chatty about that back there helping out your d Pucking
out from the red line, McKnight slides it over, trying
to get through ball was Baldwin and Sudds held him up.
I think Sudds is going to take an interference call,
and as the puck is touched down in the corner

(01:29:30):
on the in the Halifax Max end well, I thought interference,
but the referee just gave the hooking signal. But again
it was Baldwin trying to bust in. Baldwin's had a
really good game. He's been outstanding for the Hunters tonight.
And it's a penalty against the Max. So a power

(01:29:53):
play chance here with twelve twenty nine to go in
the third period, Hunters to the power play, face off
to the left, Campbell in the Max goal, clean face
off win for the Max. Kreelman tried to work that
puck in behind the net, it went off, a stick
popped up into the air, so Gavin Sudds guilty of

(01:30:15):
the hooking infraction, so he's in the penalty box. Hunters
to the power play and again there. The lights are
out on the scoreboard so they don't display the power
play time ticking away, so I can just kind of
let you know when the teams are still on the
power play, and then when it's over. Here are the
Max now shorthanded. Kreelman has space, walks in, takes a shot.

(01:30:36):
Good blocker saved Bioshaughnessy from the Creelman shot. Loody trying
to get that puck out. Hunters want to get something
set up here on the power play, but it goes
in behind the goal. Chasing after it on the fore
check is Cooper strong for the Max. Here's Baldwin getting
some steam now in his own zone across the blue

(01:30:57):
line into sent rise. Baldwin to the left side back
can't shot that a good one, and Chad excuse me.
Kale Campbell makes a great save on a lovely rush
on the power play. It was a chuku short handed
and a big pad save by O'Shaughnessy. As the team's
exchange chances, first it was a power play chance for

(01:31:18):
the Hunters and then a short handed chance for the Max.
Puck down low in behind the Max goal. Hunters trying
to control spinning with it there and that was Andrew Werkhart.
Back to the right point. Worth slides over to Clue
from the left side, walks in, passes it over and
sending it wide on the one timer was Andrew Werkhart.

(01:31:40):
Andrew workhard on that puck again half waile on the
far side. Clue took that pass as it was sent
to Cross, tried to run into it on the one timer,
lost the handle, tried to settle it down. Clue it
on that puck again. He's on the boards now on
the left side, sent in from down low as sending
it up towards goal was porta kalita. Not a bad idea,

(01:32:04):
just try to get something in toward the front of
the net. But Campbell read it well and blocked it
and stopped any further advancement from the march and Milcow hunters.
So ten thirty two to cause, I'm trying to paint

(01:32:25):
a picture for you here and I'll do it on
the next stoppage of what it's like to have a
vantage point from this east side of the forum press
box face off in the mazone or the right of
Campbell and the faceoff control by the Max SuDS out
of the box powerplay is over Max have killed it
off back to five on five. Turning with it now
is Boudrow. That was Nate Boudreau for the Hunters. McKnight

(01:32:49):
over there trying to keep it in the Max zone.
It's on the board's fireside, right in front of that
Max bench with coach bradmar shand looking on. Who knows
this could be for Shade. I mean at the end
of Marchhan's career, maybe he will take up coaching. Who knows.
There's a backhand chance right in tight there coming in
with it was Carter Sullivan got a good backhand or
away from the right wing side and O'Shaughnessy makes the save.

(01:33:14):
But so from the press box again, the Halifax Forum,
if you've never been here, if you've ever seen it,
it's a building that dates back almost one hundred years.
I believe nineteen twenty seven was when it opened. So
it's a very old building in Old Burn, A great building,
lots of history, lots of memories here. As I've said before,
if the walls could talk. But from my vantage point,

(01:33:34):
there's literally a solid beam that goes right across from
the left to the right and it goes when I'm
standing in the press box. It goes right through the
middle of the score o'clock, so it completely blocks the
time counting down and half of the home score guest score.
So I kind of have to, as I'm doing now,
kind of turn, bend over look at the clock. Oh yeah,

(01:33:55):
there it is underneath the bar. I can see it.
Nine forty two to go. But you know what, I
wouldn't want to be anywhere else on a Wednesday evening
then here at this historic building with so many stories. Again,
if these walls could talk. But being here for this
game on this special night is wonderful. So we're at

(01:34:15):
the media time out. We'll step aside, take a break.
Nine forty two to go. In the third, the Max
comfortably in front, six nothing over, the hunters back in
a moment.

Ready to Jam with the future of hockey.

Speaker 5 (01:34:48):
The Ice Jam podcast is the official podcast of the
Nova Scotia U eighteen major hockey League. Each episode brings
you inside the game with coaches, scouts, and league leaders
shaping the next generation of talent. From ringside story to
development insights. It's all here, available now on all major
podcast platforms.

Speaker 2 (01:35:06):
Hit play, Join the Jam, so.

Speaker 3 (01:35:08):
Media timeout taken care of. Face off will be in
the Max zone again to the right of their goaltender Campbell,
and once again the Max win the face off and
send it out of his zone. Bottomly chips it down
into the Hunter's end of the ice back to retrieve
it there as Luke Murphy and the puck up toward
the red line gathered thereby the Max, Creelman chips it ahead,

(01:35:30):
goes into the Hunter's home, but they send it right
back out. Here's Creelman again, the captain of the Max
chips it up ahead Bottomly try to work that puck in,
but he had to wait as one of his mates
was offside. Haverstock was in there ahead of the play.
And then the play does indeed get whistled down just
a few seconds come off the clock there and that
last sequence so down to nine fifteen to go. Just

(01:35:54):
had a message from Paul Graham, president of the Nova
Scotia U eighteen Major Hockey League, tuning into the broadcast tonight.
Great to have Paul tuning in as he does. And
President Graham comes out to a lot of games here,
so it's always great to see him in the building
and chat. He's come on and done an intermission interview

(01:36:15):
a few times so for other season, and I'm sure
we'll have Paul Graham on again and some exciting news
I'll tell you about next stoppage speaking of the league
and the league president Paul Graham, some exciting podcast news
to give you in just a bit. Max now backpedaling
into their own zone with Kreelman. Creelman head up, sends
it off to the left side, have her Stock chasing

(01:36:37):
it after it there, going up against Peyton Budreau Haverstock
wrap around chance down to a knee and O'Shaughnessy down
covering up the low part of the goal, preventing the
wrap round chance. But not a bad idea from mister
Nash haver Stock to take that buck and try for
the wrap around. Why not? So we'll have a stoppage

(01:37:01):
again just a solid goaltending play by Colby O'Shaughnessy, who
has been so good here for the March Milcow Hunters,
and I forget the fact that the Max had scored six.
If not for the heroics of O'Shaughnessy and some ten
bel saves, it could probably be double digits or more
on the scoreboard for the Max. From the face off

(01:37:21):
in the hunter zone, chasing back after it is one
of those affiliate players Carreter Pino puck rifle right back
into the hunter zone. Here's Pino again in behind his
own goal, takes a look, sees River Welsh coming in
on the fore check and gets it up to the
left side. Here's Haco sends it across the cluet on
the right side from the red line. Hawco sends it

(01:37:41):
down into the Max zone. Hawco fanned on that shot
attempt from the left point. Ludy had the puck for
a second for the Hunters in the Max zone. Now
the puck comes to the left circle, Haco racing into it,
steps it in toward the net and that hit the
skate of Liver sent back in toward the slot. Creelman
stuff there for the Max. Now Kreelman in behind his

(01:38:03):
own goal, pops it off the boards to the right side.
Welsh couldn't quite control it there as he took a
little push from Hawco. Now SuDS just sends it around
the boards. It'll go all the way from the left
side to the right side. Hawco takes a bunch then bump,
I should say, and then Martin. Now Hawko back on
the puck again, gets it down low in behind his
own net. That's Carter Pino up to center ice. Cluet

(01:38:27):
had his pocket pick momentarily, then gets it back sends
it down into the mac zone. Hunter's making changes here
as we're down to seven and a half minutes to
play in this third period. Now Strong down the right side,
Hum trying to get their first Hum throws a shoulder
into Strong and the puck pops free Love it in
behind the goal has it now comes down around again

(01:38:47):
another wrap round attempt and o'shawn is he able to
protect the post on the near side to his glove
side and keep that puck out. That's a couple of
wrap round attempts from the Max in the last couple
of minutes. Here, Max on the puck again, controlling it
in the Hunter' zone, skating calmly with it as Shearer
he tried to backhand it down low, but it's intercepted.

(01:39:08):
Now coming away with it his Andrew Workhart into his
own r Kart tried to step around the defenseman, but
good play there from River Welsh Hum got a shot
away and absolutely massive collision as Hum from the left
side saw the puck, went to lean into it to

(01:39:29):
take a shot and Will Sharer, like a train barreling
down the tracks, ran into Hum and Hum I don't
even think he saw where the puck when he was
busy having Shearer absolutely fill him in, and it's great
to see him up off the ice. And Shearer gonna
take a penalty, so he'll go to the penalty box.

(01:39:51):
But that was a big hit, a violent collision. Hockey
as a fast and physical game, and it was on
full display with Shearer stepping into the Hunter's defenseman Sebastian Hum.
And the best news of all is it was great
to see Hum get right back up off the ice.
Now it's the Hunters to the power play with six

(01:40:15):
thirty to go, O'Shaughnessy stops that puck and liaison in
behind his own goal. So it's a head contact, and
I believe it was just announced again. Hard to hear
the PA system here, but I think it was double

(01:40:35):
minor for head contacts, so perhaps extra power play time
here for the marching Milkow Hunters. Here comes Hawko lugging
that puck gets stopped. Nice play by Tree went at
the blue line and it forces the puck back into
neutral ice. Tree went on and again loony right in
his pocket. Tree went slides it over for Breen. Breen

(01:40:55):
turns and fires. Sullivan trying to race onto that puck
looking for a short handed chain. But a good job
by clue it to get to that puck and he'll
grab it for the Hunters and skate it out into
the red line. Clue it now into the maxone clue
it backhands that puck along Hunters on the power play
here and here comes Creelman shorthanded for the Max comes

(01:41:20):
into the zone and O'Dell tried to do the splits
to stay onside, but couldn't quite stretch. He couldn't be
enough of a stretch armstrong to make that stretch. And
I just dated myself. Google it, my friends, if you're
have no idea. What I'm talking about Google Stretch Armstrong.
Once upon a time it was a really popular toy

(01:41:40):
for kids, and they must have at the holidays. Stretch
Armstrong buck now bouncing end over end, spinning in towards O'Shaughnessy.
He'll just work it up and Martin now sends it
in towards neutral ice, but Creelman intercepts shorthanded. Creelman rolls
it along the ice. No problem there is that just

(01:42:02):
kind of slowly rolled into the crease area. No problem
for O'Shaughnessy to get a piece of that and clear
it away. We are down too, as I do my
little bend and stretch to look underneath that bar crossing
in front of the scoreboard from the press box point

(01:42:22):
of view, So yeah, what do we five oh nine?
That's what's left here. Hunters still on the power play
will share in the penalty box fore head contact after
that big collision with Sebastian Humm, Hunters trying to skate
it out of their own zone with Martin. He'll come

(01:42:43):
down the left wing side Martin. The two twenty two's
come together. Martin for the Hunters, Odell for the Max
and Martin got tangled up there with Odell, hog tied him,
then pushes them down to the ice, holds them there,
lifts the cage of Odell off. I'm not sure, but
definitely a b in the bonnet of number twenty two

(01:43:03):
Braden Martin there as he got tangled up with Carter Odell.
As I was saying, the two twenty twos come together,
and it was Martin the more aggressive of the two
twenty twos, as he kind of hog tied Odell, took
him down to the ice, kind of held him there,
and as he was getting up, kind of half ripped
off the face mask in the cage of Carter Odell.

(01:43:27):
So that will nullify the power play for the March
and Milco hunters. So now a little extra open ice
on there. Four on four, so the face off in
the Hunter zone to the right of their goaltender, and
it's a scramble draw that ends up coming out toward
the red line picked up there by Jaden Weston. So

(01:43:47):
four on four hockey. Here here's Haverstock weaving and dashing
through the zone, but it's off side as Haverstock was
making some pretty fancy footwork moves there, but offside the call,
and again they're not I go. I want to keep
saying an occasionrunning. Why is he saying how much power
play time is left or penalty time? The lights for

(01:44:10):
the penalty time on this side of the scoreboard are out,
so I can basically just kind of peek down from
my vantage point here and see if the penalty if
the players are still in the box, and count the
players on the ice, so we are four on four.
Extra room out there. Here's a nice move Bottomly, oh
my bottomly making some pretty moves as he was winding

(01:44:32):
through some Hunters. Defenders in the Hunter zone try to
get a shot on goal, but the Hunters, with some
good defensive stick deflected it up into the rafters. Here
at the Halifax Forum. So many great sporting events over
the years have taken place here at the Forum. I
was in the main office getting the key to the

(01:44:54):
press box earlier and looking at some of the incredible
old photos of different events, different sports, different things, wrestling, boxing, hockey, basketball,
you name it, all the different things that have taken
place here at this historic building. Here's Remy Bellavo now
getting that puck for the Hunters, sending it down into

(01:45:14):
the mazone. We are still four on four and stepping
into his man is Hum. He took a big hit
moments ago, and he laid a big hit there as
Hum stepped into Blake Bootler. As the physicality revs up
here in the late part of this third period, three
twenty seven to go. Here's Hum now lost in edge,

(01:45:38):
gets back up, Hum dishes off, got it over there
onto the stick of his teammate Remy Bellevo. He pushed
it wide and the Maxwell gather and skated up. Welsh
tried to spring live or intercept it there good play
from Luke Murphy. Liver comes back, grabs that puck, sent
it up toward the red line. Remy Bellevo grabs it,
gives it off to clue it for the Hunters into

(01:46:00):
the zone, steps around one defender, clew it down to
a knee, gets back up, try to feed it in
front Luke Murphy heading toward the front of the goal
for the Hunters, but the Max will take it and
send it out. Here comes Big Breen Breen into the zone.
Brien has liver with a Breen takes it himself head
Liver to his left, but Big Joe Breen the defenceman

(01:46:21):
carrying it coast to coast and took it right in
on top of the goaltender. O'Shaughnessy got a shot away
using Liver as the decoy, and O'Shaughnessy calm, cool and collected,
takes it into the Hunter's logo and makes the save.
Face off in the Hunter zone to the left of
the goaltender. O'Shaughnessy to forty six to go in the

(01:46:45):
third Hawko off that face off, we'll skate it up
the left side. Now pass it off to the right
Hunters into the zone. This is Loody spinning away from
the defenseman. Breen was right in on top of Loudy
and the Max will take the puck away with McKay.
McKay tried to backhand it and spring away Sharer. That
didn't work. Love it. Now we'll spin around with that puck,

(01:47:08):
going for a skate in center ice. He'll bang it
off the bullard while excuse me, the boards in the
Hunter zone. And it came right off the backboards and
came directly to the goaltender. O'Shaughnessy, who doesn't want to
take any chances with some Max buzzing around, including love It.
So O'Shaughnessy covers and holds on and while I have

(01:47:30):
a moment, I just want to send my love and
my prayers to JP McCallum, and of course Cela's dad,
JP McCallum, to Cila's mom and all of her family.
My thoughts are with you. As a dad of three,
I can't even imagine what you're feeling, but I, like

(01:47:53):
everyone else here this evening in the hockey community, are
with you in thought and in spirit, and we will
continue to be that and be there and be whatever
support you need. And I look forward to seeing Jp
again in the near future and talking hockey with the

(01:48:13):
coach of the March and Milco Hunters. Late stages of
this third period onto that puck is shearer for the Max,
but the Hunters will break away with it. This is
worth in center ice hands it off back there to
Carter Pino with Breen again rushing in. Breen dishes off
to the left. Max trying to get set up here.

(01:48:34):
This is love It going to the high slot, takes
a shot. He scores. Oh what a laser from Ian
love it as he just took that puck in the
high slot back toward the blue line, and at the
same time he was kind of backing away from the goal.
He put the shot in and just put it about
three feet off the ice, some traffic in front, and

(01:48:57):
it finds the back of the net, and the Halifax
Max have won more. With just one forty nine to
go in the third period, Ian Lovett turns fires and
say it all the time, it's never a bad idea
to put the buck, to put the puck in on goal.
So for love It, that's his fifth goal of the year.

(01:49:20):
Point number ten and the Max have a converted touchdown
it's seven to nothing. Here's Fleming now rushing in down
the left side, has Sullivan with him on the right.
Good defensive play there by Hum Hum's had a solid game.
Here for the Hunter's number nineteen in black and white,
puck down low. There's Maverick Mitchell, the new addition to

(01:49:42):
this Hunter's team, just getting back again from playing academy
hockey down in the US, trying to send it out
in front. There was Sullivan for the Max, but it's
Remy Bellevo now try to feed the puck across that
was broken up as Baldwin couldn't get to it and
it'll go back down into the hunter's end of the ice.

(01:50:02):
Final minute of play here in this third period, puck
up toward the blue line, and Bellevo will just chip
it up toward the red line and now, hum, we'll
just roll it down into the mazone. He'll go off
for a change creel and lifts it up ice. Here
Strong he's on side, but the puck goes off the
blade of his stick and down behind the goal line
and the hunter's end of the ice and over all

(01:50:25):
all the boards and pushing and shoving again in the
middle of it is Peyton Boodrow as he shoves Sam
Fleming down to the ice. So, you know, looks like
we may get a couple of penalties coming out of
that little scrum at the end of the play. Only
thirty eight seconds to go, so it looks like it's

(01:50:47):
going to be I think it's Cooper Strong and Remy Bellevo.
So Cooper Strong for the Max to the penalty box,
Remy Bellevo for the Hunt and with only a few
seconds left, they're not even gonna bother sending him to
the penalty box. It'll be straight to the dressing room.

(01:51:07):
So Cooper Strong will go to the Max dressing room,
Remy Bellevo to the Hunter's room, so their nights are
done a little bit early, only thirty eight seconds to go.
But again Bellevoe and Strong, they get a little advance

(01:51:28):
time in the room ahead of the end of tonight's game,
so just a little over half a minute to play.
The faceoff will be in the Hunter's zone to the
left of kolby O'Shaughnessy, who has just been outstanding tonight
in net for the Hunters. From the faceoff Bootler Blake
Butler from the right point, he'll dish off to Odell,

(01:51:49):
who goes all the way cross ice to Jade Weston.
Weston has it again. Weston the affiliate call up. He's
played well when he's been on the tonight, the player
from the Kings U sixteen hockey club. So they're just
announcing the penalties now. So they're announcing the penalties. I

(01:52:19):
think Fleming, Sam Fleming gone as well. Ten minute mis conduct.
I guess it won't really have much effect on the
outcome of this game, but just a little housekeeping for
you there. But through those penalty calls late, no change
to the number of skaters were five on five even strength,
nineteen seconds to go, and along the boards this is

(01:52:42):
Andrew Wurkhart. Urkhart down the right side, Morris heading toward
the front of the goal. But Morris, a little over anxious,
got in ahead of the play and the play whistled down,
So just a few second have to go a dozen

(01:53:02):
to be exact. Face off will be just outside the
maxone over on the far side, and from the drop
of the puck, Andrew Wurkhart will just roll it in
behind the goal and that should just about do it.
A couple of players gathering behind the goal line and
as a little pushing and shoving ensues, the buzzer sounds

(01:53:25):
to end the game. So through the end of it
all and the players still jostling down there, so the
officials want to get in quickly, the two lines people
and the two referees in quickly to break this up
to make sure that nothing else comes of the little
scrum that came together at the end of the final period.

(01:53:48):
So the game is over. The Halifax Max improve their
record to ten oh and o now twenty points on
the air and for the marching mil Coo Hunters, well
it was really more being played for here tonight than
points in the standings. They were playing for each other,
for their head coach, for Cela, Cela's loved ones and family.

(01:54:12):
And again, sometimes the hockey, the sport, takes a back
seat to what really matters, which is people and family
and a special night here. Hats off to the Nova
Scotia U eighteen Major Hockey League, the Halifax Forum, the
Halifax Max, and of course the March and Milco Hunters.

(01:54:33):
The game really secondary to everything that took place this evening,
and an evening that hopefully is a small part in
the healing and the moving forward for JP McCallum and
his family and all who knew and loved Cela. I
was certainly proud and honored to be here tonight to

(01:54:54):
broadcast this game and to honor the memory of Cela.
I never met the young lady, but from I've heard,
she was just incredible, and as a dad of three,
it's emotional for me. And again, as I said earlier,
I'll say again, I send my love and my prayers

(01:55:17):
to Jp McCallum, to Sila's mom, and to all who
knew and loved the young lady. I never knew you, Sila,
but I'll never forget you. That wraps up things here
from the Halifax Forum. The Halifax Max, after not playing
for almost two weeks since they got back from their

(01:55:39):
silver medal at the Ottawa Senators uaighteen tournament, they kind
of pick up where they left off. Took him a
few shifts to get the rust off, but a complete
team performance. Six different goal scorers for the Max. Sam
Fleming scored two and they get the seven to nothing victory. Especial.

(01:56:00):
She'll mention again to goaltender coleby O'Shaughnessy, who faced a
plethora of shots and was outstanding in goal. He may
have given up seven, but it certainly would have been
more if not for his heroics in goal. So on
behalf of the Halifax Max, the March Milkow Hunters and
the Nova Scotiu A teen major hockey We com Scott Square.

(01:56:20):
Thank you so much for tuning in, Enjoy the rest
of your evening, Be well and go Jay's go. Talk
